——— a grand welcome to the vieux carré, DAHLIA GAO. with a city as diverse as this, there’s a new threat on almost every corner. being a HALF-DEMON might provide some protection but their biggest strength may come from being loyal to THE RESISTANCE. many see them as a SOLDIER which is why KEEP ON TALKING WE DONT PLAY BY THE RULES seems to fit them perfectly. whispers say they’re from the FUTURE. can it all be believed? just keep an eye on them and see if their true colors shine through.
Growing up Dahlia had no idea what she was or who her father was. Nothing about the way she looked would ever betray the demonic lineage running through her veins and her mother routinely brought in help to keep her demonic powers suppressed. And it worked ….at least until her mother was killed in the fighting and the magical interference stopped.
Over time the magic holding her other nature back began to wear away, but there was no time to explore before she, like all the children, was sent away to what was supposed to be safety. Instead, she would spend the next 18 years fighting to stay alive and protect her friends. Her abilities flourished under duress and she's convinced that it's the only reason she managed to survive given that she was seven years old when dropped into Hell. As one can imagine, it hardened her.
Dahlia didn't immediately trust their supposed salvation when Chris Halliwell came for them, expecting it to be nothing more than another demon mind-game, but she was coaxed into leaving Quor'toth before being vaulted into the Past before she could even gain any sort of footing.

she didn't expect them to know who she was. even in the group rescued from the hell dimension she was just another name, another life... but dahlia remembered them. she'd been barely a child when all this started, but anyone who had been in the salvatore school for any amount of time knew who the infamous hope mikaelson was even before the world fell apart. "then my statement stands." they shrug, trying not to dwell on memories that wanted to surface. "literally and metaphorically, to be honest."
hope isn't one to often speak in metaphors, leaving nothing to confuse or twist the meaning of her words. "i meant it literally." the tribrid turns to the other, another face in the sea of dozens that she's been tasked to save.

Attention Wish 2023 fandom: The A Recipe for Adventure tie-in book has LOADS of elaboration on the film, its characters, and its relationships!
Dahlia is Taiwanese, she lives by the philosophy of mise en place, or keeping things where you know you'll need them eventually, and got her love of cooking from her deceased grandmother, who made amazing ji dan gao sponge cakes. Her current goal is to find out why her own cakes don't taste the same as her grandma's. It also went into how Asha and Dahlia first met; it was when Asha was 11 and Dahlia was 10. Dahlia's grandma became too ill to bake for the queen, so Dahlia stepped in and made the cookies herself, but then a goat came into the castle and stole the cookie basket. While chasing it, Dahlia ran into Asha, who managed to negotiate with the goat and saved the cookies, and they became BFFS after sharing an extra cookie that broke. Dahlia's wish is to become the best baker, which most people think has already come true, but she wants to recreate the something special from her grandma's recipes. <3 There's a whole chapter of Dahlia having a baking accident but discovering it tastes great and has the same kinda love her grandma's dishes have, and she and Bazeema giggle over potential 'mistakes'.
The other teens are also expanded on; before he gave his wish away, Simon was very active, loved horseback riding and being outdoors, and used his strength to help his friends. Hal is Rosas' beekeeper and the honey she makes is as sweet as she is, and she always carries a jar of it with her. Bazeema is a weaver who makes patterns and designs. Why Gabo is the way he is is unknown but the author speculated he was a disappointed optimist.
It turns out Amaya was the one who got Dahlia her baking position, and she read Magnifico's books and knows how to bind simple spells, but nothing like the forbidden magic, which states Embrace that which is forbidden but once, and you surrender to it for eternity.
A very crucial line from the book is not in the film: Magnifico angrily asks Star where they were when he was young and needed them, why it took Asha for them to meet, and he says "Without [Asha] I'd still think I'd need everyone's trust and that the closest thing I could get to happiness was being near their wishes. I never would have realized that I could just take what I wanted for myself!"
Two more crucial things from the book are that we find out what Amaya and Sakina's wishes are! Magnifico says Amaya's wish was to serve him, but she says he just remembered it that way and her wish was to serve Rosas, and Sakina's wish was to see her daughter shine, which has come true by the end of the film.
TL;DR A Recipe for Adventure is basically required reading for the Wish fandom.
This is exciting!

hateful stares weren't unfamiliar to chris halliwell. for as long as he could recall, even being a halliwell made people envious. let alone being the little brother and the best friend of the twice blessed. then chris took a step into the world, made his own enemies, and made his own mistakes. somewhere down the line, that hatred of others didn't only come from what he couldn't control. "yeah and i'm an apple tree." he responded, sarcastic gaunt to his tone. "do you have a death wish? am i wasting my time trying to save you?" it was harsh and probably horrible of him. chris would let himself feel bad about it later.
dahlia side-stepped the hands reaching to touch the wound in her side, barely restraining herself from smacking them away. "i'm fine." the blood slowly soaking the fabric of their top belied that statement, but they didn't want anyone touching them right now much less the man vaguely responsible for 18 years of actual hell.

Explore Dong Thap, land of the lotus, for just $20

Explore Dong Thap, land of the lotus, for just $20
Dong Thap is renowned for its lotus fields. Photo by Shutterstock/Tzido Sun
December to April is suitable for travelers who prefer the dry season.
The estimated cost of this two-day trip is VND500,000 – 700,000 per person ($21.34 – $29.87). The price varies depending on the quality of transportation, housing and the place you choose to visit.
Day 1
The best places to see in Sa Dec City, the southern province of Dong Thap are Tan Quy Dong flower village, Huynh Thuy Le ancient house, and Kien An Cung Pagoda. It takes only 2 – 3 hours to visit all of them.
Two farmers are working in a flower village in Sa Dec City. Photo by Shutterstock/Dory F
Tan Quy Dong flower village: As one of the most important flower-growing centers in southern Vietnam, this village has a history of more than 100 years in growing flowers. You will find more than 50 types of flowers with all sorts of colors and fragrances such as chrysanthemum morifolium, petunia, lisianthus, marigold, moss rose, iris, dahlia.

Huynh Thuy Le ancient house: Situated on a street along the Sa Dec River, this 100-year-old house combines both Western and Asian styles. Thanks to the success of the movie and novel “The Lover,” about the love story in 1929 between the Chinese house owner Huynh Thuy Le and French author Marguerite Duras, the house attracts thousands of tourists every day.
Kien An Cung Pagoda: Built in Chinese style, Kien An Cung was built by immigrants from Fujian in China to honor their ancestors and educate the next generation. Many tourists visit this pagoda to take photographs and learn about the culture.
Day 2
Cao Lanh Market gate. Photo acquired by VnExpress
Cao Lanh Market: Having been around more than two decades, this market is remarkable for its decoration with pink lotus, the symbol of the province. On two sides of the market are temples that honor its two owners, who are famous for their magical powers, especially among businesspeople.
Van Thanh Mieu: This is a temple that promotes learning and preserves Confucian teachings. Today the area surrouding Van Thanh Mieu is a large park called the Park of Van Mieu, a public space for outdoor activities for locals.
Dong Thap has three beautiful and large melaleuca forests. It takes half a day to explore each, so you should choose one of them since you are on a two-day trip.

Tram Chim National Park: Situated 40 km from Cao Lanh, the park has hundreds of species of animals and around 130 types of plants. You can go deep into the forest by canoe to see many rare endemic birds. Admission costs VND40,000 ($1.71) for an adult and a canoe costs around VND500,000 ($21.43).
The entrance to Xeo Quyt. Photo by Shutterstock/HuPa
Xeo Quyt historical site: 30 km from Cao Lanh, this site is known to have the most beautiful path through/across the melaleuca forest of Vietnam. Walking or sitting in a rowboat snaking through the forest, you can see a revolutionary base during the Vietnam War (1955 – 1975). An admission ticket costs VND10,000 ($0.43).
Gao Giong Eco-Tourism Park in Dong Thap Province. Photo by Shutterstock/Vivanvu
Gao Giong Eco-Tourism Park: This melaleuca forest, 15 km from Cao Lanh, has tens of thousands of white storks and is one of the largest stork habitats in Dong Thap Muoi (Plain of Reeds). Gao Giong is also a source of seafood for Dong Thap Muoi’s signature foods. An admission ticket costs VND10,000 ($0.43).
Dong Thap Muoi is an inland wetland in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta. Most of the wetlands are within Long An Province and Dong Thap Province.
Transportation
Since Dong Thap is about 170 km from Ho Chi Minh City, you can go there by motorbike or car, which is the most convenient option for explorers. Buses are also available and cost VND90,000 – VND200,000 ($3.84 – $8.54) from Mien Tay bus station (Ho Chi Minh city) to Cao Lanh or Sa Dec, and the trip takes 3 – 4 hours.
Transportation is quite convenient in Dong Thap with a wide variety of options such as taxi, motorbike taxi (xe om), boat, and ferry. You can also rent a motorbike in Cao Lanh and Sa Dec city for VND100,000 – 200,000/day ($4.27 – $8.54).
Housing
Motel and hotel prices in Dong Thap are quite low, ranging from VND50,000 to 70,000 per night ($2.13 – $2.99). If you are a nature lover, you can try sleeping in wooden huts above lotus fields in Thap Muoi, a rural district of Dong Thap
If you want to discover the local culture, you can also try homestays in Sa Dec. But motels and hotels in Cao Lanh are the most convenient option.
Signature food
You should definitely try signature local dishes such as grilled mullet fish wrapped in lotus leaf, steamed rice wrapped in lotus leaf, Sa Dec rice noodles, Lai Vung fermented pork roll and mandarine, Vietnamese dragon blood rice, and lotus milk.
In addition, Tien Giang River and Hau Giang River offer signature dishes made from linh fish, sesbania sesban flowers, stock garden, stir-fried mouse, Cao Lanh grilled mouse in a terracotta jar, Sa Giang shrimp chips, pink lotus wine…
Restaurants can be easily found in local markets and night markets. Food prices are quite affordable. It is advisable to find eateries in densely populated areas.

How to Take Good Instagram Photos on Your Phone: A Step-by-Step Guide
Remember the first mobile phone cameras? And the grainy, blurry, low-quality photos they produced?
Well, these days phone photography is capable of some pretty impressive feats. Plus, unlike that bulky DSLR that you haul out for vacations, it’s always at hand.
Learning how to take incredible shots using only your phone is the best way to stand out and build a strong presence on Instagram.
In this post, you’ll learn how to take good Instagram photos using only your phone, and some Instagram picture ideas to inspire your feed.
Bonus: Download a free checklist that reveals the exact steps an adventure photographer used to grow from 0 to 110,000 followers on Instagram with no budget and no expensive gear.
How to take good Instagram photos on your phone
Learning how to take good photos on your phone requires understanding some basic principles of composition and lighting, and honing your own instincts as a photographer. You just need to follow a few simple rules.
Step 1: Use natural light
Lighting is the foundation of a good photo. Understanding how to use light is the first and most important rule of getting great photos using only your phone.
Avoid using your flash in favor of natural light, which creates photos that are richer and brighter.

A post shared by LIZ (@really_really_lizzy) on Jul 28, 2018 at 6:31am PDT
A flash can flatten out your photo and wash out your subject. If you can’t shoot outdoors, take photos near windows or in well-lit rooms. Even at night, it’s preferable to find sources of ambient light, like street lamps and store windows.
Step 2: Don’t overexpose your images
You can brighten up a photo that’s too dark with editing tools, but there’s nothing that can fix a photo that’s overexposed.
Prevent overexposure by adjusting the lighting on your screen: tap and slide your finger up or down to adjust exposure.
Another way to prevent overexposure is by tapping your finger on the brightest part of the frame (in the case above, it would be the windows) to adjust the lighting before snapping your photo.
Step 3: Shoot at the right time
There’s a reason photographers love golden hour. This time of day, when the sun is low on the horizon, makes every photo more beautiful. It’s nature’s Instagram filter.

If you’re shooting at midday, clouds are your friend. It’s hard to get a good shot under direct sunlight, which can be harsh in photos.
Clouds diffuse the light from the sun and create a softer, more flattering effect.
Step 4: Follow the rule of thirds
Composition refers to the arrangement of a photo: the shapes, textures, colors and other elements that make up your images.
The rule of thirds is one of the most well-known composition principles, and refers to a simple method of balancing your image. It divides an image into a 3×3 grid, and aligns the subjects or objects in a photo along the grid lines to create balance.
For instance, you can center your photo:

Anybody hangin around in sqaumish tomorrow? We are !! @squamishfarmersmarket 10-3pm come say hello maybe grab a flower or two ! Most excited to see you at our first farmers market ????
A post shared by Valley Buds Flower Farm (@valleybudsflowerfarm) on Aug 17, 2018 at 10:32pm PDT
But you can also achieve a pleasing effect with “balanced asymmetry”, where the subject is off-center but balanced out by another object. In this case, the flowers are arranged in the lower-right area of the photo, and are balanced by the sun in the top-left corner.

We do have a couple more spots left and so many dahlia varieties growing it’s going to be a really nice time ! Go check out our website or just stop in @antisocialshop for more information and thank you !????????✨
A post shared by Valley Buds Flower Farm (@valleybudsflowerfarm) on Aug 7, 2018 at 10:46pm PDT
Pro tip: Turn on the gridlines for your phone camera in settings, and use them to practice aligning your photos.
Step 5: Consider your viewpoint
When you take a photo on your phone, you probably hold it up around eye level and snap, right? That’s what everyone else does, too. Resist this natural tendency if you want to take interesting, unexpected photos.
Taking photos from a different vantage point will provide fresh perspectives, even when it comes to a familiar place or subject. Try shooting from above or below, crouching low to the ground, or scaling a wall (if you’re feeling ambitious).
Don’t break your leg in pursuit of the perfect shot, but challenge yourself to see things from a new perspective.

Step 6: Frame your subject
Leaving space around the focal point of your photo can add more visual interest than zooming in. Sometimes you get a surprising detail that makes the photo even better, like the moon high in the sky of this photo:

Unlike a camera with an adjustable lens, your phone camera “zooms in” by shrinking your field of view. In effect, you are just pre-cropping your image. This can limit your options for editing later, and you might miss interesting details, so avoid doing it.
Instead, just tap your photo subject or focal point to focus the camera.
If you want to give yourself even more options, you can buy an external lens that fits on to your phone.
Step 7: Draw the viewer’s eye
In photography, “leading lines” are lines that run through your image that draw the eye and add depth. These might be roads, buildings, or natural elements like trees and waves.
Keep an eye out for leading lines and use them to add motion or purpose to your photo.
You can use leading lines to direct the viewer’s gaze to your subject, as in this shot:

Step 8: Add depth
It’s easy to focus solely on the subject of your photo, whether that’s a person or a handsome slice of pizza. But photos that include layers, with patterns or objects in the background as well as the foreground, are naturally interesting because they offer more depth.
This photo, rather than just cropping tightly on the flowers, also includes the railing behind them, a tree beyond that, and then a sunset and horizon. Each layer of the photo offers something to look at, drawing you in.

Step 9: Don’t forget to get creative
Some photos on Instagram are so popular that they become cliches, inspiring an entire Instagram account dedicated to repeat images. Don’t get so caught up in Instagram photo trends that you lose your creativity.
You want to stand out from other brands on Instagram, so always challenge yourself to find a fresh angle on a common subject. This will also help you establish a distinctive and memorable brand identity.
10 Instagram Picture Ideas
Now that you understand the principles of photography, let’s talk about subjects.
There are certain subjects and themes that perform well on Instagram because they offer wide appeal and tons of visual interest. Take note, because posting engaging content boosts your visibility on Instagram.
Here are a few Instagram photography ideas to consider:
1. Symmetry
Symmetry is pleasing to the eye, whether it appears in nature (Chris Hemsworth’s face) or the man-made world (the Royal Hawaiian Hotel). Symmetrical composition often enhances a subject that might not be exciting otherwise.

Our universal love of patterns also explains the viral appeal of Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama’s mirror rooms, which create infinitely repeating patterns of simple shapes and colors:

Look around yourself for inspiration. Architecture, design and nature are all sources of mesmerizing patterns.
3. Vibrant colors
Minimalism and neutrals are trendy, but sometimes you just crave a pop of color. Bright, rich colors make us happy and give us energy. And when it comes to Instagram photography, they make a big impact on a small screen.
They can even make a plain high-rise building look beautiful:

Using Instagram editing tools like vignette (dimming the edges of your photo) or tile shift (which creates a soft blur around your focal point) can enhance detail photos.
Take your photo from a close distance to preserve quality. Shooting from far away and cropping lowers the image resolution, leading to grainy, lackluster photos that damage your brand. Make sure you’re uploading images that are sized for Instagram.

A post shared by Valley Buds Flower Farm (@valleybudsflowerfarm) on Aug 17, 2018 at 10:32pm PDT
But you can also achieve a pleasing effect with “balanced asymmetry”, where the subject is off-center but balanced out by another object. In this case, the flowers are arranged in the lower-right area of the photo, and are balanced by the sun in the top-left corner.
