Six Song Soundtrack Game
I was tagged by @deathandthesoul this is right up my alley so thank you so much! I was so excited to work on this since crafting scenes to specific songs is one of my favorite writing exercises and I gotta tell ya it was hard to narrow these down since I have so many songs on my playlists😅
I'm gonna tag @shaydh @sayrielle @aztechnology and @robobrainmurdermysterytheatre
Rules: If you're tagged, make a new post with links to music and/or lyrics describing the following… Here's mine for Kelrath (and I'll probably do a 2nd one for Kaethan). I decided to keep this for the canon universe since the modern durge band au diverges a bit.
Event that defines your character's past:
To me, this song perfectly represents Kelrath's past as a low-born male drow in Menzoberranzan and his eventual conscription into the Dread Fangs. I think it does a great job of representing his disdain for his own people, and his absolute loathing of "The Spider Bitch", Lolth.
Lyrics: [Verse 1] Manifestations of the gun Blackened blood on every tongue Taste the waste of their gods grace And spit your hate upon your young Abomination has been done Psychic scars on every son Seal the fate of your own race And spit your hate upon your young [Chorus] Degrade Degrade Degrade Burn your altar Mighty dollar (Degrade) Fuck your martyr Sell your collar
How your character sees themselves:
I think this is a good representation of Kelrath's pride in his own force of will, of the strength and fortitude of his mind. As a teen and young man he resisted the indoctrination of the Dread Fangs, deceiving the order and killing members from within. And he now serves as the voice of Bhaal while maintaining his sanity, holding fast to his paladin oath of vengeance. After all, most Bhaalspawn like Orin are sneering and chattering puppets to madness, dancing on blood red strings...
Lyrics: I have a firm grip On reality I can strangle it Any time I like There is a purpose When you look in my eyes You can't handle that I don't believe in your lie I'm burning on the inside Freezing on the outside You can take it all away But you'll never take my mind away from me Away from me Away from me You'll never take my mind away from me I am the monarch Of my own skin You try and crack it But I won't let you in You can't handle that I don't obey all your laws And I'll dismantle it As I tear down your wall
How others view them:
Pretty good representation of Kelrath as the voice of Bhaal and how his followers in the cult of Bhaal see him. I like it especially in the beginning because it could very well be him addressing the Bhaalists disparaging them for thinking they're anything like him.
Lyrics: Attention your god's talking, the one you idolize and all copy If you were anything at all like me You'd hate your own guts and cut your wrists I want nothing but dead bodies on the lawn And I want the law on me And I wanna give whatever I got to your bitch [Pre-Chorus] Though I remain guilty they ask me how do I plead Plead? I don't plead to no man I don't get on my knees [Chorus] I'm goin' to hell oh well who's comin' with me? I'm goin' to hell for what? For the murder of my enemies I'm goin' to hell oh well who's comin' with me? I'm goin' to hell for what? For the murder of my enemies
Their closest relationship (platonic or romantic):
I think this song is a great representation of the complicated relationship between Kelrath and Kaethan. The unspoken danger of the dark urge in Kelrath always clawing at the edges of his mind, threatening not only eventual madness but also demanding Kaethan's blood. But that dark urge isn't just a danger of death at Kelrath's hand, that same dark urge is present in Kaethan's own mind too. Kelrath's fall is a mirror, a threat of a future that could so easily be Kaethan's. The dark urge hunts them both.
Lyrics: You are not alone anymore You heard what I was running from It's getting harder to ignore If every vision is a shadow of what it was before If you never get an answer What are you still searching for? Holding one hand in the fire Forgot what I was running from Now it's burning higher A never-ending future You will get your peace and reward A mutilated creature that will reach its final form I saw who you are Rust on every part Holding us together Is tearing me apart
A major fight scene:
Lyrics: Tears of oceans of when we were together my love Hurry hurry Ahura Mazda
Less of the lyrics for this one and more of the sound and the absolute unhinged, desperate way that the vocals are sung. This song was such a huge inspiration for the final battle between Kelrath and Keathan. By that time Kelrath has completely fallen to the Dark Urge so it represents the madness very very well.
End credits song:
I think this is a good fit for the credits song for Kelrath. Almost as a message to Kaethan. Is it out of fondness that he asks him to claim his soul, desperation and uncharacteristic vulnerability to deny Bhaal the satisfaction of claiming it himself? Or is it almost taunting, a warning that the dark urge will always be with Kaethan even after Kelrath's dead.
Lyrics: Keep my soul in your possession I'm afraid to lose my faith If I hold on till the morning Would you claim it for me? [Chorus] If you kill my flesh tomorrow Then I’ll take my final breath It'll turn into a last laugh And I'll lay in a silent death

“taste the waste of their god’s grace & spit your hate upon your young”
Who are you subscribed to on YouTube? A shitload of people. Do you like to go to the farmer's market? Yeah, sure. What will (or was) the color of your wedding dress be? Probably black. What's your favorite melon? I don't really like melons, actually. What was the name of the last pet of yours that died? Teddy. :( When was the last time you wished the day would just get over with? Literally every day. Seriously. It's funny, I dread fighting to sleep at night, but I also just want it to be time to sleep so time will pass. My life is just so fucking boring that I just... wait for something exciting to happen. Name one person you've never had a fight with: Tez. What are you currently listening to? "Sex Metal Barbie" by In This Moment. What would you rather have: cat or dog? I prefer cats. Who is your least favorite person in real life? Probably my sister's husband. Do you ever watch anybody's live stream of... anything, really? I'll sometimes watch live let's plays. Does your house have security cameras? No. If you go grey as you age, would you dye your hair or let it be? I'll be dyeing it. What was the last establishment you stopped going to due to bad service? What happened? I'm not sure. What soundtrack do you listen to the most? Silent Hill 2's, definitely. Was there a family secret you weren’t told about until you were an adult? I don't know if it's really a secret, but I didn't know until this year that my dad did some really dangerous drugs before us kids were born. Do you have an opinion most people you meet seem to disagree with you? Yes. What’s something you like to have many options to choose from? Food, ha ha. Feels great to have a full kitchen after a grocery trip. What’s the strangest decorative object you own? Nothing "strange" to me. What’s a thing you couldn’t imagine doing with your life right now? One biggie is having a baby. I just... could not imagine. My life would plummet. What’s been your proudest moment? Graduating in the top percentile in my high school graduating class. What’s the filthiest non-pornographic movie you’ve seen? Omfg, Sausage Party. That movie was so gross. Do you know anyone who doesn't seem to be fond of animals? Thankfully, no. I don't even think I could befriend someone who doesn't like animals. Are you planning any outings or trips anytime soon? Whereabouts? No. Do you know anyone who has a phobia of a certain animal? Yeah, like me with whale sharks. Is there a particular brand of technology/electronics that you prefer? Not really, no. Is there a singer whose voice gives you goosebumps/chills? Amy Lee's. And is there a singer whose voice you simply can't stand? Yeah, such as Bob Dylan. Are there any authors that are particularly dominant on your bookshelf? Tui T. Sutherland, but only because I read their series Wings of Fire. Have you seen any photographs or videos that made you smile today? I'm sure on Facebook at some point. Which item in your fridge are you most looking forward to consuming? Does the freezer count? If so, this Healthy Choice grilled chicken pesto bowl I have in there. I am like addicted to them. Has anyone you know got into a new relationship lately? I don't know. If you menstruate, do you experience much PMS prior to it? It varies month-to-month. Have you ever had a tattoo covered up or added to? I had my Markiplier tattoo essentially redone by a better artist. I also plan on getting my "ohana" tat covered, as well as my "how rare and beautiful it is to even exist" one (I adore the quote, but it's not an original design, which I don't like having anymore), and I want to move and redesign my "perfectly flawed" one because I want a bigger tattoo in its location. Can you remember the last time you had a sudden change of mind? Yeah; I'm pretty sure I like-like my friend Girt now, something I was never entirely sure about. When was the last time you did something on a whim? *shrug* Were you raised by both of your parents? If not, then who raised you? Well, I guess both, but Dad didn't do a lot of the teaching part about life and stuff. Have you ever began a relationship with someone you knew for less than a week? No. Has one of your friends ever tried to ‘hook you up?’ Yes. Colleen tried that with me and Girt and only succeeded in making us very uncomfortable. She said something I wanted to slap her for that I won't repeat. What is your card game of choice? Magic: The Gathering. What is your favourite books series? I think my favorite series of all time was the Shiloh trilogy. I adored both the books and movies. Do you prefer landmarks or street names when being given directions? You'd better give me landmarks, ha ha. Do you read the prologues in the beginnings of books? Of course. What was your favourite gym class moment? There're such things as GOOD gym memories in school? Do you think that ocean boardwalks are fun? Yes. Do you dread when people ask you to sign their yearbooks? No, I always thought it was very flattering that they even wanted mine. Do you have a favourite Scooby-Doo movie? The Phantom Virus one. I had the video game as a kid, too. Could never beat the damn thing. Do you think it’s cute when toddlers try to run away and fall down? No? I don't like seeing children - or anyone - fall. Do you enjoy listening to your grandparents tell stories of their past? So, this really only happened once, and it was coincidentally the day I learned of her pancreatic cancer, but before Mom told me. I had an assignment to interview someone of an older generation about how various sources of media affected their lives, like the development of TV and such, and she really got into it. It was very interesting to learn about. Do you have a crush on someone? I guess I do idfk. If so... what does his/her name begin with? "D." What attracts you to them? More than anything, the fact he's been there for me without fail. Both single and when I was with Jason and he was interested in me, he's just... been there and has made an effort since high school to be in my life in one way or another. Do they know that you like them? Not anymore, no. We dated for a few months, but I broke up with him because he felt more like my brother, so I would assume he doesn't think I do. Maybe he still is family to me. I really don't know what I feel. If they don't know, why didn't you tell them? I might at some point, idk. We just haven't talked in a while. Name two people that you miss: Jason and Megan. Have you ever seen Titanic? When I was in the hospital, yes. Everyone was crying, lmao. Have you ever swam with dolphins? No, but I would. When was the last time you had a stomachache? Now. Mother Nature finally visited me after three whole fucking months and is v angry. What's going to bed early for you? Like 7:00. Do you want to have a big family in the future? Of pets! Human kids ain't for me. What was the last thing you did that gave you a rush? Hell if I know. Favorite Nicholas Cage movie? Ghost Rider. Have you had your Covid vaccine yet? Which one, if you have? Yes. I got Moderna. If you've had your vaccine, did you experience any side effects? I did on my second dosage. I was OUT of it the day afterwards, but then I was fine. What's the next item of clothing that you intend to buy for yourself? I need new bras badly. What Facebook groups have you found the most helpful? It's called "Not Just A Pet Rock (Python regius)" and is a group for advanced ball python husbandry. It is very informative, but I will say there is a SHITLOAD of very rude elitists. Do you like your butt? Why or why not? NO because it's a PANCAKE and I want CAKE. Have you ever personally been a victim of homophobia? I personally think so. When Sara visited and we were trying to go to my older sister's so she especially could meet her, Ash entirely ignored Mom's messages. I know her homophobic husband well enough to nearly be able to guarantee he didn't want us coming over because the kids "don't need to see that." Ash kinda does what Nick says, so... you know. Do you think you’d be happier if you had a pet? I know I'm happier with pets. Who was the last person you went on a date with? Sara. Were you ever hospitalized as a little kid? No. What’s your favorite way to curl your hair? It's too short to do that. At what age did you start swearing? However old I was in 7th grade. What is something you physically can’t do? Clean up vomit lkdsjal;sdkjfa;lkwd. I can't clean up my pet's or even my own. I literally can't. My mom has to. What do like better, apples or oranges? Apples. I don't like oranges. Around the holidays, do you hope for snow? Yes!!! What are your top two favorite bands? Ozzy Osbourne and Metallica. How many people do you 100% trust? Like two. Maybe. Do you care what others think about you? Way too much. Has anyone ever called you a bitch? My grandmother has. Did you watch Teletubbies when you were younger? Omg yes, I was obsessed. Do you have any licenses other than your driver's license? I don't even have that. Could you live the rest of your life without eating meat? No. Not because I don't want to, because I do, but I would have an extreme protein deficit if I did that. Besides meat, I don't like enough protein-rich foods. Have you ever had a rolling backpack? Yes. Did you make any money today? I haven't made any money in a very, very long time. I'm only ever paid when someone hires me to take pictures for them. What was the highest place you've ever jumped from? I don't know. Definitely not very high. Have you ever gone swimming in a river? Yes. What was the last souvenir someone got you? I have zero clue. Do you have a favorite remix of a song? Hm. Perhaps this techno-y remix of "Psychosocial" by Slipknot. I don't know for sure, though. What do you think is the most saddest sounding instrument? Either the violin or piano. Do you really pay attention to the ratings on movies? Nope. Do you have a favorite species of wild cat (tiger/lion/cougar/etc.)? Probably clouded leopards aesthetics, but I think lions overall. If you had $500,000, what would you do with it? Pay off school debt as well as help Mom with various financial issues, buy new glasses, buy Mom and I a new house and car, get Venus a great tank with all the optimal supplies, get LOADS of tattoos, donate to various charities, adopt a few specific pets, travel to Yellowstone, get laser hair removal on my legs and teeth whitening... There are a lot of possibilities. Did the last person you touched lips with have a kid? Just scaly ones. :') "First loves are never really over." Is this true for you? Yeeeep... Did you like Michael Jackson before he died? I didn't really have an opinion on him. I know/like a couple songs, sure. What are some things that would make you break up with someone? If they became abusive, started doing drugs, acted arrogantly, didn't understand my mental conditions and were unwilling to be emotionally supportive, stuff like that. What was the worst breakup you've ever had? Ha, the one with Jason. For. Fucking. Sure.

I GOTTA BONE TO PICK WITH YOU!! 🦴⚠️ First off...HOW DARE YOU—attack me with that sinnery of a fic you call Divine Weapon and I did myself the favor of listening to the song while reading and I ONLY tortured myself more🥵 (I look forward to reading the rest of your John Wick fics; BLESS YOU, My fellow sinner)💕 P.s. I can’t stop listening to 3Teeth Bc of you
I…..
I am literally giggling and hiding my face in my sweatshirt, I am fucking delighted that you enjoyed my JW filth (I have no self control) AND that you are enjoying 3TEETH!!!! They’re so craaaaazy good, I’m such a slut for industrial. Also writing to music is a HUGE JAM for me (I think, like, all of my fics are named after song titles or lyrics), and when people who read my fic tell me they have the Immersive Experience of listening to the banger whilst consuming my (usually eponymous) content, it makes me feel warm.
And if you’re binging 3TEETH now…Divine Weapon is, of course, amazing, but I also recommend Pit of Fire, Degrade, Nihil, and American Landfill, and….and just their entire discography tbh, you canNOT go wrong. New album dropping on July 5, too!
THAT’S ENOUGH RAMBLING FROM ME. Thanks for the love, you made my fuckin’ day!

In Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, we see popular media in the form of movie advertisements in the game world reflect reactions and sentiment to the Aug Incident. Similarly, this compilation imagines the kind of music that would be created in the wake of the Incident. This mix was a collab between me and @youknewyouwerelost. It is composed of largely vocal songs as lyrics are important here and the genres featured are industrial, synthpop, and industrial metal. 00:00:00 Näo - Out of the sky The Aug Incident struck out of the blue, without any warning.
00:04:13 iamx - North Star (Future Funk Squad remix) As the augmented start to deal with what they've unknowingly done and been through, conception of self falls into question and they desperately seek guidance.
00:09:21 Assemblage 23 - Disappoint Friendships dissolve, lovers part, and families are torn asunder; the casualties of the Incident still occur long after it is over.
00:14:49 Ruined Conflict- Labeled Enemy As augs face revilement, distrust, and scorn in the streets, the Augmented Rights Coalition (A.R.C.) emerges and their message attempts to unite and call them to peace.
00:19:52 Lorn - Noclip A.R.C.'s message spreads and Talos Rucker's fame grows, but the hope he offers is constantly buffeted and rebuked by the realities of this new world.
00:20:52 3TEETH - Antiflux People seek explanations for the Aug Incident, but every side proports to have the truth. The real truth can never be found in the confusion. And without it, fear and hate of the augmented increases.
00:25:24 Assemblage 23 - Damaged Many of the augmented fall into despair. Depression and PTSD are widespread common ailments, drug use spikes, and as LIMB clinics are closed, due to anti-aug groups destroying the facilities, the augmented's options for help become fewer and fewer.
00:31:09 Lorn - Weigh me down By now, augs have had to sign up for registration with strict controls and licensing, or otherwise accept the decommissioning, and in some cases forcible removal, of their cyberware. But distrust follows them regardless of what they've chosen. Resentment to being treated poorly grows. The augs that survive this point in time will be stronger for their trials, even if they are shells of their former selves.
00:34:50 Faderhead - The future's not the past Many augmented lose their jobs and must find new ways to support themselves. Oftentimes this results in what amounts to indentured servitude.
00:39:49 3TEETH - Degrade The Human Restoration Act is proposed and the militant faction of A.R.C. emerges. They believe the Incident is a mark that cannot be erased with soft words.
00:43:16 Destroid - As the world turns Militant aug support within A.R.C. grows; violence is an outlet as they see no other recourse or way to effect change. Many adherents are ready to die to further the cause for others. Some even embrace outright nihilism. Attacks surge.
00:48:19 Näo - Kitab Attacks bring retaliation. Surreptitious bomb operations are carried out on both sides of the fence.
00:52:27 Mesh - Petrified (Frightened remix by Maxi-mix man) Driven to extremes and blinded by anger, people on both sides who never thought they would participate in violent attacks have to deal with the consequences of their actions. Rifts widen.
00:59:15 3TEETH - Too far gone After all that's happened, there is no going back. The promise of a golden age is over.

3TEETH, Shutdown.exe
Alexis Mincolla (voice), Xavier Swafford (keybords), Andrew Means (drums) and Chase Brawner (guitar) the four members of the industrial band 3Teeth, appeared four years ago. Their visual identity could be confused with retrowave, which was in fashion in 2013 : infographics, numeral figures, algorithms and source-codes are regular in their video-music. But 3Teeth’s music is very far from « synthwave ». They are part of the L.A’s industrial scene, popularised by OMF and Daïs Records, Das Bunker parties, Amanda Jones and Sarah Toon Djs or bands such as Youth Code, Kanga, All Your Sisters or High Functionning Flesh. Less analogic and more produced than them, 3Teeth shares with them their classic influences, Ministry and Skinny Puppy. They are also exploring other genres – having opened for Tool and Primus.
Even if 3Teeth seems to be a classical industrial band because of their appearance – military dress-code, leather, black sunglasses, shaved heads and muscles – and because of the first sounds we can hear –violent kick, aggressive voice, twisted synths-, you need to get rid of that and concentrate on the entire Shutdown.exe.
Instead of starting brutally, there is the ascendant 'Divine Weapon' which opens with a solemn chorus. This creates a deep and symbolic atmosphere to justify their name, 3Teeth, the trident, Poseidon’s divine weapon. If we look at the lyrics, the driving force is religious symbols : « This world's a sham / Fuck your tower of babel / Crucify your eyes / For what you see » ('Slavegod'). Even though Alexis Mincolla was previously used to singing without modulations, new registers are now used (on 'Pit of Fire') and some spoken-word (on 'Tabula Umbra'’s low tempo). The whole work is enhanced by sick-sounds –'Tower of Disease's muffled voices - and we find the oldest but most effective on 'Atrophy' and 'Final Product'. 'B.O.A.' has the same powerful beats. 'Oblivion' and 'Shutdown' seem to be the same song, a continuity which is due to the rythmn work. The « industrial métal » category can be applied to 'Pit of Fire' and 'Degrade', but this album is not only made of blood and steel.
'Insubstancia' is one of the most original songs. Maintaining a noisy background, soft waves come to the forefront while Mincolla speaks about simulacrums : « Thinking that your plan is so ideal / losing true sight of what is real ». 3Teeth manage to brighten industrial tradition with their modern production, leaving a strong impression.

Sur le plan des paroles, la symbolique religieuse sert de catalyseur « This world's a sham / Fuck your tower of babel / Crucify your eyes / For what you see » (Slavegod)

Survey #323
“dehumanized upon a shell / we came to bleed it dry / obsessed with divine wealth / divide and multiply”
Have you ever drawn on someone’s face while they were sleeping? No. Would you scuba dive in shark infested waters if you had the chance? No thanks. What is your favorite slow song? There are so many, but one of the slowest and most beloved of mine is "Obstacles" by Syd Matters. It gives me goosebumps without fail. It's one song I know I want at my hypothetical wedding. If there were aliens on earth, would you be afraid? I mean, yeah. I'd want to know their intentions. If your best friend died, would you be able to speak at their funeral? It'd be extremely difficult, but if I had any say in it, I absolutely would. Do you enjoy going through old pictures? Sometimes. Other times it causes too much pain, depending on the pictures, of course. Do you tend to have a lot of drama in your life? Definitely not. My life is painfully uneventful. When’s the last time someone was disappointed in you? I don't know. Do you have a house phone? No. Which fast food place do you eat at the most? McDonald's. Have you ever met someone on the Internet in real life? Yep. What’s your favorite color to wear? Black. Do you like being in pictures? No. Do you travel a lot? Essentially never, even though I'd love to. Do you play any sports? No. Do you like pickles? Yesssss. How many times have you been kicked out of a store? Never. Is there things you’ve told someone that you’ve NEVER told anyone else? Probably. When was the last time you had alcohol? My birthday dinner last month. Are you one to often make typos? No, except when I'm texting. I have autocorrect on for a reason. On a hot day, would you rather prefer ice cream or a popsicle? Ice cream. Have you ever wanted to get drunk and get your mind off everything? Yes, but I just didn't want to drink anymore at one point. I'm far from a lightweight, apparently. Have you played cards recently? No. Is there a band you like with amazing music but a bad vocalist? Mother Mother immediately comes to mind, but not the main singer; he's great. The woman who occasionally joins in is fucking horrendous. Like, it hurts my ears. Is there a certain song you like to headbang to? I don't and never have really headbanged, surprisingly. It's a sure-fire way to make me dizzy. Anything you might be giving up on soon? I hope not... Sometimes I feel like it's time with photography, but I just. Can't. Have you ever captured a moth? I've raised a caterpillar into one before, then of course let it go. Is there a band/artist who has strange lyrics but you love them anyway? Otep, noteably. When was the last time you wore earrings? It's been a long time. How many pairs of heels do you own? I don't think I have any. When was the last time you changed your picture on Facebook? Uhhhh it's been at the very least a month, but I know more. Would you consider yourself to be physically strong? Absolutely not, especially my legs. I struggle to fucking walk because they're so weak. Have you ever painted a piece of furniture? Yes, actually. I helped Jason paint his shelf black. Do you have a really fat cat? No, we never have. We've always been good about keeping our pets at a healthy weight. Do your initials spell a word? No. When was the last time you went to a playground? A year or so ago when I was taking pictures of someone's son, as well as just general family photos. That same family just had another baby the other day. Have you ever made a business card for yourself? No. Do you have a favorite curse word in a different language? No. Are there any recipes you have memorized? No. Do you know your multipication times tables? Lol not most of them, no... It's been way too long. Do you have a favorite font on the computer? Of the basic ones, probably Garamond. Are you good at creating logos? *shrugs* I've only ever really made my photography watermarks, and I only JUST made one I like pretty well. How about catch phrases? I don't make those. Have you ever been severely burned? Not severely, no. Did you ever dream that you had a baby? I've actually had numerous dreams where I was pregnant, but I don't THINK I've had one where the baby was born yet. Do you or anyone you know have a rabbit? No. What was the weirdest thing you ever saw cross the road? Hm, nothing too weird, I think. Last song you got stuck in your head? "ALTÆR" by 3TEETH.
