False God foreshadowed in the ME! music video! Saying “I’m New York City” or “You’re the West Village” are other ways of saying that each person in this relationship is unique and the only one for the other. 💞

Lyrical smile, indigo eyes, hand on my thigh
We can follow the sparks I’ll drive
Welcome to Lyrical Taylor Swift! My favorite part about being a Taylor Swift fan has always been her lyrics. I have spent a lot of time reflecting to myself on their meaning but have not found an outlet, until now, to bring my thoughts forward. I hope with this account to closely examine the lyrics of Taylor’s oeuvre both in isolation and in comparison across her albums to track her journey from “a girl trying to find a place in this world” to today. @taylorswift @taylornation

Love(r) Games Phase 1: The Cruel Summer There are so many game references in Lover! To me, the references related to relationships seem to relate to 3 phases in a relationship. I call the first phase “The Cruel Summer” and it’s the time in the relationship when things are really unsteady. Neither party is willing to fully commit or address the growing underlying/hidden/delicate feelings. The concept of Cruel Summer being about playing games is underlined by the fact that Cruel Summer lyrics were used as the names of the board games used in the Lover Music video. In Paper Rings, Taylor uses the phrase “cat and mouse” (“cat and mouse game” is implied) to describe the beginning of the relationship of that song. Cornelia Street brings in the double layered lyric about being card sharks. Perhaps the two lovers were literally playing cards, but the implication is that they are in the outset of their relationship and not willing to commit (“I thought you were leading me on”). @taylorswift @taylornation #lover #lovergames #cruelsummer #paperrings #corneliastreet #lyricaltswift https://www.instagram.com/p/B16_bjBiM-p/?igshid=t9cfjr0lg05q
