Hi. I never do this, write with an opinion. However I loved heartland and just wanted to add my two cents. Your blog has been awesome over the years. Very disappointed with season 14. No not because Ty died/Graham left. Because they could have done a much better job. 1. Ty’s memorial. Why wasn’t Cass or Scott part it? I think I read it was ‘family’ only, yet Caleb was there. At the least I’d think Cass would be there with her husband. And Peter? 2. Why was Ty cremated? It would have be
Hi, Anon. Thanks for the kind comment about my blog; I really appreciate it.
As for "doing a better job" with Ty's memorial, I would hazard a guess the Writers/Production would have liked Cass and Scott and Mallory, et al., to have been there. Would it have been nice to have an explanation as to why they were absent? Maybe. Sometimes, though, the reality is the actors simply are not available. It was a Herculean task getting Season 14 shot due to COVID restrictions as it is (ditto for Season 15). They even had to delay the production of Season 14, so the fact we even got what we got is a small miracle in and of itself.
I cannot answer the question about why Ty was cremated. That just seems to be the way the Writers choose to dispose of the remains of the deceased characters in this show, with the exception of Marion, who was buried in the family plot. (Jack spread Lyndy's ashes at the river by the fishing cabin, for example. Ty disposed of Brad's ashes when he went out on that road trip with Jack.) Spreading ashes in my experience is a fairly secular, non-religious practice, and we know the Heartland characters aren't devoted to any particular faith tradition. All the "nice-to-haves" that we didn't have aside, I found Season 14 to be one of the most moving, most impactful, and most creatively interesting seasons in a very long time, and it got me energized and excited about the series all over again.
With the exception of a few stand-out episodes in the couple seasons prior to Wardle's departure, I had been losing my passion for the show. It was still a nice distraction, but I would not have felt too terrible if they had quit at 12 or so, even if it would have not been the most satisfying of places to leave things. Now? I really want to see where it goes from here. I'd love to see more, and I hope we get another few seasons.

12:7 Running Scared
I read your IG review and agree with it for the most part. A couple of up front things. First Casey Emerson, Jack Emerson’s (Brick) younger brother was the boy with the big hat. Absolutely adorable. I would have loved to see Brick as some sort of Mallory for Jack, a little cowboy helper.
I guess one day there will be some article about 20 things you never new about behind the scenes at Heartland and we’ll learn how they take the perfect vehicle for a 200th Anniversary show, a family rodeo event and leave out 4 or 5 members of the immediate family, I forget does Peter count ?
I’ve always loved Jade’s character so I like that she overcame. How I would love to have seen Tim act with Amy the way he does with Jade.
Love Amy with Caleb and Jack’s scene with him was great. They waited a while to have Marion which puts Jack in his 80’s for me. Remi stole the show.
I don’t think we’ll see Georgie actually get to the full ED stage. She’s pushing herself without the fuel, she’ll get dizzy or pass out before she requires psychiatric care, this is Heartland.
This is an up in the air Katie episode, pick it ? Lisa and Lou, Istanbul/France and NY.
I think more important than Ty and Luke out camping alone in today’s world is the fact that in something like 87% of the cases Ty needs hospitalization after time in the woods so that’s probably not safe. Seriously, who came up with this plan. I guess they might use the trip to advance that story, Ty finds out this or that about Luke’s situation.
As to the event, well I would have preferred Amy, Georgie and Lou against Jack, Ty and Tim with Lisa holding Lyndy off to the side pointing and cheering but hey.
It was a nice episode that will probably be remembered for nothing aside from the fact that it was #200.
There was something else bothering me that I meant to add to the last post. Kim Price, has articles and tapes and expectations which is good. My assumption is she gets big bucks. Remember, they said Nick gets $500 and hour in season 1. What is she getting paid for if not to train Georgie which I would assume includes an excercise regimen and a diet.
Did I leave anything out ? Submitted by: smokinholsters __________________________________
When I saw the kids riding, I thought we’d get to see Jen cheering from the sidelines, but that didn’t happen. Shame. I know it’s a minor thing, but it would have been nice to see a Brick update, especially because Jack Emerson’s brother was on set too. Would have made a nice “Easter egg” kind of moment for the fans :)
I don’t think they make Georgie go full ED stage either, but there’s definitely some symptoms that are related to ED, like constant dieting, eating in secret (or not eating and hiding away, more like), excessive exercise (she saw her weight and was disappointed in herself, so she went for a run to “punish herself” for eating the slice of cake and not focusing on her routine), she keeps thinking she should be “just like Kim” and she’s not good as she is, and so on. But, yeah, I think after passing out, the family becomes concerned and when her plans with the Olympics kind of wither away at the same time, she will be back to herself (which is sadly not the case with many people who are suffering from ED). I also wonder if Kim has given her an exercise regimen and diet, or maybe Georgie decides to take it even further, so she could be “better”? I don’t know, but I totally agree that I would think Kim would have some kind of regimen for Georgie if this was real life.
Also, who was watching Lyndy while the event was happening? Cassandra (off screen)? Or has she taken a page out of Katie’s book and was just hanging out independently?

Does anyone really expect that Ty and Amy and babies will not end up in the main house; from an operations perspective they built a beautiful set only 2 years ago for a 10 year old show.  These shows only get more expensive to produce as time goes by unless the cast and crew shrink.
IMHO - CBC is not going to find a better show for 7pm on a sunday that covers all of the key Canadian demographics right now - so basically how much will they invest in HL and how much does HL want to invest in itself.
The “wildcard” part is that Heather, Dean and the writers do not appear to be beholden to any story line other than the core one “Family” moving to S12.
Alisha Newton will be 17 next year and they would need to introduce a “new Georgie or Mallory (age 12) to keep that younger demographic; so basically some shows have gone into the future a few years -  so could they recast Lyndy and Katie/Brick or move on with a completely different family angle.
They finally have the freedom they have not had since season 5 finale when Ty got boxed into the "ring/proposal” and set season 6,7 and 8 into motion. 9,10 and 11 appears to have been a houdini job by the writers given what they had to work with and some of the behind the scenes changes and the fans wanting a wedding, kids and a TAMY place of their own.
Kudos to the audience for recognizing great TV and for the HL team and CBC for providing the vehicle!!
S12 should/could be quite the ride! Submitted by: wwms2008

bluestar22x replied to your post “I still stand by my thought that I don’t HATE the Mongolia idea…. I’m...”
I love Lyndy but the writers also fail her. Not much for parent storylines. Even when Katie was young there wasn't much, but for Lyndy it's way less and she's the kid of the central characters based on novel characters that had even more of the spotlight (the books were very focused on Amy and Ty with Lou and Jack more off to the side for the most part - at times Ben and Soraya got more attention than those 2!
From the top of my head, some of the baby Katie story lines that come to mind were of course the naming ceremony, Lisa becoming Katie’s godmother, Lou dealing with Peter’s parents/wanting help from Grace when it comes to being a mother, her sleeping pattern and how it involved everyone, Tim bonding with her, Lou being away from her for the first time and having problems, Lou thinking about going back to working and “leaving Katie behind”, her first word, the whole thing where Lou was exchanging her diaper and called Mr. Walker a poo-poo head and he heard it through the baby monitor, Mallory’s babysitting adventures, like the baby cam thing, when Tim began drinking and Lou said he didn’t want him to be around Katie - this all just in season 5, on her first year. I think they did good job with it, it was nicely balanced and felt natural.

“How to abandon your kids and 101” OH MY GOD SOILE IM DYING 😂😂 it seems like this show likes to palm off any children to others. My bets is jack and Lisa will be looking after little EBSI (not her name peeps). Which is pretty much what people were slating Lou and peter for allowing. I highly doubt they’ve took the kid to Mongolia (plus no big tweets about baby ___________ in this block).
I honestly hope people slate them as much as people slate Lou/Peter because seriously so many double standards are held when it comes to these two. Poor Jack and Lisa, they should just open up a nursery and charge the equivalent to £50 in Canada money (too lazy to convert) a day.
Heartland’s Nursery: wanna palm your kids off with two loving great grandparents? Then you may as well send them here! Submitted by: callmebethany2010 __________________________
No, but honestly, if you think about it; Tim left because he had problems with drugs and alcohol, Lyndy and Marion died (not their fault, obviously), Mallory was always at Heartland because her parents weren’t around, Ty had a horrible family life, Ben’s parents got divorced and ditched him (thankfully Lisa took him in), Ashley and Jesse’s dad died and their mother was horrible (thankfully, got a little bit better), Peter wasn’t around much, now Lou isn’t around either, Georgie was in foster homes... The list goes on! It would be refreshing to see a parent that’s constant in their children’s lives.

I hear Amy and Ty welcomed a baby girl who they will name Marion as the middle name. What seems odd to me and knowing the caliber of Heartland writers this is a surprise since in episode 503 when Lou and Peter name their baby as Catherine Marion Minnie Fleming Morris. So we are going to have the two sisters each bearing a daughter and having their mothers name as the middle name??? Will Amy use Lyndy, Lilly or Mallory as the first name?
Yeah, I was wondering if people actually do that within the same family - or has anyone done that, but I guess that’s possible. I feel like people often forget that one of Katie’s middle names is Marion.

I just saw the teaser for next week’s episode and I have to say “haven’t we been there and done that before”.
First it was Ty coming to Heartland, then Badger came and went, I think the next kid that showed up was Tim son Shane, after Shane I’m pretty sure it was Georgie. Even though she doesn’t live there I think you could include Jade since she’s so close to Tim (and Georgie). Now it’s going to be Luke. Heartland is turning into a daycare center (and dumping ground) for just about every troubled kid around Hudson (and Calgary).
I can see the writing on the wall. Clint expects Ty, Amy (and the rest of the Heartland family) to take in Luke. Ty won’t hesitate even though both Ty and Amy are just barely just keeping their heads above water. I can almost see the panic in Amy’s eyes thinking not only does she have to do all the heavy lifting taking care of Lyndy now she’s going to have to be the primary caregiver for Luke as well. Let’s face it; Ty hasn’t been all that involved in Lyndy’s life ever since she was conceived. He ran off to Mongolia leaving Amy while pregnant, then to British Columbia to save wolves just after Lyndy was born, and how many trip’s to see mommy dearest? If history is any guide to the future, Ty will be so involved with his Vet duties, causes and disappearances he’ll hardly have time for Amy and Lyndy let alone Luke. That means it will be up to Amy, Jack and the rest of the family to raise Luke. So much for Amy’s business, she just should give it up and resign herself to be a stay home mom and babysitter. My view of what is probably going to happen may seem harsh and unfeeling concerning Luke but as I said “haven’t we seen and done this before” can’t the writers come up with something different (and believable) for a change? All their doing is recycling the “Ty” story over and over again. Enough already.   Submitted by: Callie _______________________________
I think Mallory was kind of like that as well, maybe not as clearly, but she always hung out at Heartland because her parents were gone or just “weird” and Jack was like a mentor to her.
I can see what you mean - and I think it would be interesting if they actually had Amy express her concern. Not only because of their living situation, plans to build the house, her business/their business, Lyndy, etc. etc. There would be enough reasons for her to be worried, and I wouldn’t blame her. Taking Luke in is noble and it’s probably what Ty wants to do without question (he has a bond with this kid already and like you said, Heartland saved him so he’ll probably want Luke to have that too) and while I think Amy wants to help Luke as well, she is going to be “the realistic one” with this and it’ll probably make Ty annoyed because he is so focused on Luke that he doesn’t see the world around him and the things that might cause more stress to their lives if they do take Luke in. How would that kind of environment be good for a kid, even if there’s family and horses and all things nice?
With the way things have gone lately, and if they’d actually wrote Amy to have more spunk like she used to, I could see problems on the horizon. Realistically speaking, Amy could have a moment where Ty keeps interrupting her because he wants to get his way and bring Luke to Heartland permanently and she gets annoyed because he doesn’t let her tell him what she thinks and completely dismisses her, thinking he knows what’s right - and that’s what breaks the camel’s back. I know they will probably end up happy (see them kiss and make up), but if they wanted - with all the things they have been doing - I could see this being something that would actually take Ty and Amy to different paths, in a way, even if they would both like to help Luke, just because they’d probably go about it differently. Amy, who has been holding the forth for years now, could say that she’s had enough and is done with Ty being “the good guy” who gets to play the hero but does the minimum work while she’s busting her ass taking care of Lyndy and trying to earn some money on the side, not to mention she’s being ridiculed for doing her job when she actually has time to do it - and now she’s expected to take care of a foster child as well. No way!
But, they will probably have them kiss and be excited and then it’ll be exactly like you said; Amy and Jack will become the primary adults for Luke, with some Ty on the side. I know Ty’s been around more this season, but if this was real world and if I was Amy, I couldn’t trust him to be there, not physically and not mentally for me for support with the way they’ve written him these past couple of years.

Okay so maybe I’m going crazy but I need some clarification. The woman who plays Lyndy Bartlett looks exactly like the woman who Mallory thought was coming to buy Copper in 1x10, Mrs. Wiley. Am I crazy and just getting tricked by the similar hair??
She’s not the same person; Mrs. Wiley is played by Jacqueline Pillon where as Lyndy Bartlett is played by Mary Ashton. They do look a bit similar, though, especially the hair!

About Amy as a waitress:
I agree! For some reason I think it’d be fun to see Amy work at Maggie’s. We did get that little bit of her helping serve at Lou’s reunion. But, nobody was perfect when they started. Ashley, Mallory, & Lou were all terrible at first. (Gif idea- first days as being a waitress). *ok, technically Georgie did fine, but she was the exception* And now the story is forming… Amy decides to work part-time, to save up $$. But, she’s really bad at it. Remembering orders, carrying lots of plates, dealing with rude/annoying customers, etc… she hates the job. BUT… Georgie is in NY (so Maggie’s needed another waitress) and she & Ty really want to build a house, so she feels like if she quits, she’s letting everyone down. So, we see her struggle and try to stick with it. Since Jade is no longer going to school in Texas (right?), she’s back at Maggie’s and we see Jade teaching Amy the ropes. (Which would be cool, to see how they’d relate to each other). Her favorite part of work, though, is when Ty comes by on his lunch break & sometimes (on his days off), he brings Lyndy.
They could get a lot out of something like this. Cute moments (when Ty comes for lunch), funny moments, serious moments of Amy struggling and coming home exhausted & crabby, happy moments as Amy gets better at the job or when she and Ty deposit her paycheck and dream more about their future home. Plus, if they would us my idea from earlier, Amy could get calls from Ty, while at work, showing her Lyndy (for episodes Graham isn’t in). So, “Ty-less” days could focus more on Amy as waitress. And when Ty is in an episode, they can use those for days she’s home and /or working with horses.
It’d be a great way to get more Amy. And things could happen, like she’s at work and overhears people talking about the way a horse is being treated and it can lead into a horse story, where she & Ty rescue an abused horse.
So, yeah- there’s the s12 character arc for Amy ;) Submitted by: Kay ____________________________
The writers can send your cheque in the mail ;)
Haha, no but in all seriousness, I’d love this. It’d bring new side of Amy, but would also keep her close to the family and we’d see her interacting more with characters she might not interact often (like Jade, for example).

I have to be honest. When I saw the list of characters from season two with most of them I had no idea who they where, but I remember Tara for example and I wouldn't count her as ghost from past because that I think was what BW said about the character. Of course it depends on who they see as ghost from the past.
Charlie and Jess Wells are Mallory’s parents, Mitch (played by Chantal Perron) was a waitress from Maggie’s who was helping the family to keep Amy’s secret birthday party as a secret, Ms. Ruth Adams was Amy’s teacher, Callie Phillips was Tim’s girlfriend, they met at the cattle drive, Connie and Kevin Miltown were the guests at the Dude Ranch who Lou chose over spending time with Scott, Lauren was Lou’s New York friend, Mackenzie Hutton and Ian Parsons were the couple with the Divorce Horse who got married at the Dude Ranch, Constable Mark Rodriguez used to date Lou but then she found out he didn’t think they were exclusive, Ed Dawson owned Apollo before Ashley claimed him back after Val had given him away, Hank Adams was the man who used to play in Lyndy’s band but had problems with his memory, Mindy Fanshaw was the actress who everyone was obsessing about, Gus & Norm were the oil guys who were staying at the Dude Ranch, Tara was Badger’s gothy friend, Stumpy is a legend who is often referred to by Jack and Tim, Dutch and Wes stole Spartan, Tom Wheatley was at the auction where Spartan was sold to Wes and Joan was the woman at Victor’s place.
Hopefully that’ll clear up who is who :)
