"I wish Mallory would have stayed. I miss her character and I would love to see her with a grown up Katie and Lyndy with little Sully."

Hi. I never do this, write with an opinion. However I loved heartland and just wanted to add my two cents. Your blog has been awesome over the years. Very disappointed with season 14. No not because Ty died/Graham left. Because they could have done a much better job. 1. Ty’s memorial. Why wasn’t Cass or Scott part it? I think I read it was ‘family’ only, yet Caleb was there. At the least I’d think Cass would be there with her husband. And Peter? 2. Why was Ty cremated? It would have be
Hi, Anon. Thanks for the kind comment about my blog; I really appreciate it.
As for "doing a better job" with Ty's memorial, I would hazard a guess the Writers/Production would have liked Cass and Scott and Mallory, et al., to have been there. Would it have been nice to have an explanation as to why they were absent? Maybe. Sometimes, though, the reality is the actors simply are not available. It was a Herculean task getting Season 14 shot due to COVID restrictions as it is (ditto for Season 15). They even had to delay the production of Season 14, so the fact we even got what we got is a small miracle in and of itself.
I cannot answer the question about why Ty was cremated. That just seems to be the way the Writers choose to dispose of the remains of the deceased characters in this show, with the exception of Marion, who was buried in the family plot. (Jack spread Lyndy's ashes at the river by the fishing cabin, for example. Ty disposed of Brad's ashes when he went out on that road trip with Jack.) Spreading ashes in my experience is a fairly secular, non-religious practice, and we know the Heartland characters aren't devoted to any particular faith tradition. All the "nice-to-haves" that we didn't have aside, I found Season 14 to be one of the most moving, most impactful, and most creatively interesting seasons in a very long time, and it got me energized and excited about the series all over again.
With the exception of a few stand-out episodes in the couple seasons prior to Wardle's departure, I had been losing my passion for the show. It was still a nice distraction, but I would not have felt too terrible if they had quit at 12 or so, even if it would have not been the most satisfying of places to leave things. Now? I really want to see where it goes from here. I'd love to see more, and I hope we get another few seasons.
