FUN , even. a chance to change emma's mind once and for all. to prove that he was undeniably long - distance boyfriend material ... how the FUCK was he supposed to know that there were goddamn bears or whatever running around ?? of all the potential consequences of sabotaging the van , getting mauled by the local wildlife certainly hadn't been one that he had considered. fucking sue me ...

' I was gonna put it back , y'know ?? in the morning. and you really fucked things up for me , by the way ... what the fuck was that ?? ' jake's hands raise to press against his forehead , the image of emma in nick's lap , their lips locked still permanently burned into his brain. ' but nooo. you had to kiss her. now the stupid rotor ... thingy is at the bottom of the fucking lake and we're screwed. ' he's passing the blame , somewhere deep down , jake knows that. it's extremely unfair , especially considering that nick's already been through it tonight. but rational jake it's at the helm right now , hadn't been since well before he'd hijacked their exit vehicle.

"Doin' great, kid," Kerry sighed, words encouraging but his demeanor making his exhaustion clear. The former Samurai guitarist and singer had been trying to keep a low profile, but clearly he wasn't being nearly cautious enough.

He had been wandering around in a large bomber jacket with a cap and sunglasses to obscure his face. Hell, he'd even tied up his hair, but apparently it'd been no use. Nothing quite like his usual form-fitted rocker punk aesthetic he usually stuck to on stage. This kid had managed to clock him and approach him. All Kerry could hope was that no one else caught on. Absolute last thing he wanted or needed was to get swarmed.

He did notice a few people glancing their way, which was already making him feel a little antsy.

"...Little busy here, kid. Walk with me, talk with me." He wasn't just gonna turn him away. Nah, that'd be a dick move. But at least if they kept moving, it'd look less weird. Kerry started to walk in the direction of where he'd been going in the first place, still making attempts to keep his head low and mostly out of sight.

It turned out the first days of camp, were especially chaotic. So he ended up slipping out from the mess hall. Barely managing to hide his yawn into his arm as the noise became less muffled. Thankfully not a camper or the owner as his arm fell back to his side. "As long it doesn't mean I have to do dish duty later, sure." Eli playfully joked as scooted over.

there's something   a   little   BITTERSWEET   about   the   last   day   of   camp   that   olly   hadn't   been expecting.   watching   an   entire   summer   get   stored   away   and   the   campers   pack   their   own   bags as the   sounds   of   the   forest   start   to   return.

with laundry   bags   slung   over   each   shoulder,   he uses   the   very   last   of   his   energy   to   awkwardly barge   the   door, but shoes   SKID   against   the   floor   as   he   tries   to   stop   himself,   barely avoiding   a   collision   with   a   stack   of   cooking   supplies,   dropping   his   own   baggage   to   steady   himself   against   the   wall. “   SORRY! sorry   sorry   sorry!  ”

“   nick. i have   spent   my whole   morning   dragging   canoes   out   of   the   lake   and   folding   dirty   towels   and   getting   the   boathouse   shipshape   for   mr   H –-  ” he   almost   breaks at that, mister   hackett's   TERRIBLE   puns   had,   admittedly, caused   a   chuckle   or   two   from   the   blonde   over   the   summer. “   and   now   YOU   want   help   stocking   cupboards   too?  ” arms fold across   his   chest, eyebrows furrowing into an unimpressed frown.

“   ok!  ” his  demeanour   changes   in   an   instant,   and   he   flashes   nick   a   bright   smile,   kicking   his   own   bags   against   the   wall   and   turning   on   his   heels. “   but you need   to   help   me   take   those   to   the   laundry   when   we're   done.   DEAL?  ”

he's feeling distinctly harried, which is probably why he's not looking where he's going, attention focused squarely on the assortment of ingredients he's balancing in his arms as he flicks through a mental list, cataloguing what he has, counting —

he turns the corner, headed for the kitchen, and thank god his reflexes have rarely let him down because he only narrowly avoids crashing directly into olly. as it is, he clutches his collection to his chest, frantically readjusting as a bag of flour tips perilously to one side.

he turns to the kitchen door before thinking better of it, half - reversing to face him as he walks backwards, nudges the door open with a hip.

I mean to me it does seem to be there purposefully to confuse people, that second part it's a non sequitur and if it's really gonna be allison like it seems, why spoil something so big so early on? I mean it does not make sense to point so hard at such a big spoiler

Brought back to hyper awareness of everything around. Eyes moved from the bush to see just who was talking. "If you scare her off, I'll make you regret it." Keeping the hand full of cat treats outstretched; not really in the mood to distance himself from what he'd been doing.

Only if it posed a bodily risk, maybe but today he didn't care that much otherwise.

  none of it feels real. the entire night had felt like a fever dream, like a nightmare of her own imagination's making. even now, emma half expects to be pulled from her slumber, to sit and laugh with abi about what her brain had conjured up. if only it were that simple.

  instead, emma's been forced to sit and grapple with the events of the night, the unfortunate circumstances in which they'd all found themselves. she'd expected to find some relief in daybreak, but instead, a sheet of numbness had fallen over her. and while emma tries to keep up with everything happening around her, tries to cooperate and answer questions she has no business answering in the first place, she finds that it's impossible. overwhelming. she needs a break, and it seems like she's not the only one.

  there'd been some hesitation — would nick even want her company, when she was partially to blame for all of this? in the end, she goes to him anyways. based on what little emma has been able to piece together of the night everyone else had endured, nick doesn't deserve to be alone.

  " i know i don't have to, " she replies gently, settling in next to him. " but when has that ever stopped me? " emma smiles slightly, though it falters a little when he speaks again.

  " ... since you got dragged into my drama and everything went to hell? " there's no point in tiptoeing around it (that's never been emma's style anyways). a breath of a laugh follows her words, but it holds no amusement. one shoulder lifts in a shrug. " i am ... " she trails off momentarily, the temptation to say ' fine ' sitting on the tip of her tongue. it's what she would usually say to hold up the ruse of being unbothered by everything around her.

  " still trying to make sense of everything, " emma finishes with a weak smile, dropping her gaze for a moment. " what about you? " there's a softness to her features as she glances his way, clear and genuine concern in her eyes. " how are you holding up? "

the first attempt at formulating a response dies before it leaves his throat, and he wets cracked lips with his tongue ( a mistake, because, oh, god, he can still taste blood ) before he pauses, tries again.

it comes out hoarse and croaked, but it's better than nothing.

he's shivering where he sits, back against the wall, a safe distance apart from where the others are huddled, hushed voices within earshot but relegated to an indiscernible background hum. he doesn't think he can take in much more — they've made attempts to recount the night's events to him, he thinks, but he'd struggled to comprehend any of it, explanations weakly grasped and then promptly discarded again, because what else is he supposed to do with words like monsters and murdered ?

he might scream if he thinks about it any more.

the list of things he knows is short but sure. one : he hurt abi. two : he's not at all confident she's the only one. three : he feels like he's been hit by a truck, even though he's checked, and there's barely a bruise on him. and four : he really has to burn these clothes.

he turns his head, sweeps his gaze over emma where she's taken up beside him ; she looks better than he does, probably, but something about her still seems different. scarred.
