i'm seeing a lot of people in the comments conflating the Yin Tiger Tally alongside the overall effects of guidao in wwx's body, and while they are somewhat associated, it's very important to remember that guidao affecting wwx's mental health is canon and stated both in the novel and by MXTX herself, while the Yin Tiger Tally was only used twice, and its effects on WWX can still be debated

Okay this topic has been haunting me for a while, because I feel like I have a wildly different perception of the Yin Tiger Tally's effects on Wei Wuxian than some other MDZS fans. Specifically, I've seen some takes that include the idea of the Yin Tiger Tally as some degree of corrupting force and/or supernatural drain on Wei Wuxian's mental health within the canon of the novel.

I really wonder if the different understandings stem from being influenced by which version of the story first sticks in your head. So! Indulge my curiosity:

#lwj wasnt making things up when he said guidao was bad for him!!#no but yeah i dont think the tiger tally itself had much of an effect #he barely used it and as far as we know likely didnt even carry it most of the time #the ghost cultivation however 100% affected him. it's a huge misunderstanding that it was all made up by the donghua/cql #it's canon!!! it's confirmed!!! it's stated as soon as chapter 7 and reinforced throughout the whole novel #it's both SHOWN and TOLD #idk why the fandom still believes it wasnt messing with him 😭#i think people are afraid of this statement cause it feels like we're blaming wwx for his loss of control and like #no!!! theres a whole bunch of context on why he was using that cultivation in the first place #what cql and the donghua did do was make it so that his loss of control was forced by an outside source #either su she or an array set at nightless city #and that was suuuuuuch bullshit #as well as his cultivation that was slowly eating at his mind #it was HIS lost of control due to both the incredibly traumatic and stressful circumstances #sorry op i normally wouldnt do this but the amount of misunderstandings in the notes bothered me #to be fair this was in the tag #modao #lace speaks
