Ok so this came up in one of my uni classes: Jorge Luis Borges once trolled a bunch of ppl by claiming that an ancient Chinese text classified all animals into 14 arbitrary categories. Which one are you?
(edit) apologies but I had to combine a couple similar ones bc tumblr only allows up to 12 poll options)

It's 1989 and you're a brainy, misfit, hopeless romantic teenage girl. Boys at school are sexually harrassing you, but you've got the school's queen bee protecting you.
One day, you meet a mysterious, brooding boy. But when he witnesses you having a traumatizing fight with a woman who threatens to ostracize you, he kills her right there, and you think it's an accident.
Suddenly, your life is a lot better. You bond with the boy. He avenges your sexual assault by killing the boy who hurt you. You're in a Bonnie and Clyde romance and are trying to cover up multiple deaths.
Are you Veronica Sawyer or Lisa Swallows?

I'm so excited for this, I've been dreaming of an adaptation since early 2014
(And istg Netflix if you cancel this prematurely and we lose out on the slowburn, I will lose hope in streaming services forever)

I would sell my entire soul for the new Leviathan tv show to adapt Scott's bonus/canon-fanfic chapter at the end of their finale holy shit
Let! Alek! Wear! A! Dress!
Let our young lovers do their clandestine drunk kissing with a side of genderfuckery

I know I've already compared Rayllum to Wirt x Beatrice, but if you're looking for another ship in the same genre as Rayllum, I've gotta recommend Deryn x Alek in the Leviathan books (and upcoming Netflix show!)
-Dark-haired boy who is a prince of his kingdom despite being unable to inherit the throne due to lacking proper noble ancestry. He's studious but grew up in comfort, orphaned at the beginning of the story
-Blonde girl with a Scottish accent who is an excellent warrior despite her snarky attitude, also lost members of her family (both through death and estrangement) and this sometimes interferes with her expectations as a soldier
-The world that they live in is vastly different from our own and abides by different natural laws (namely, a lot of fantasy creatures)
-Start the series on opposite sides of a multi-nation war but are brought together due to a rogue mission and a shared goal (involving crossing the world to save the life of an egg/a large flying creature). Their alliance is a symbol within the story for the potential for peace
-Bicker but become fast friends, which develops into mutual confused pining and a difficulty confessing
-And while not the same, this evokes a similar dynamic: while Rayla and Beatrice are both girls who are in some way inhuman/magical, and this creates the interspecies tension, Deryn spends almost the entire story disguised as a boy and keeping the secret from everyone (including Alek). Cue tension surrounding secret identities and also queerness (in a presumably homophobic time period)
-Animated show using experimental techniques
This concludes my PSA. Everyone should go read the Leviathan books and watch the show when it drops!

If you were obsessed with the Leviathan trilogy by Scott Westerfeld as a kid/teen you're either bisexual or trans now

My decades-long dislike of JKR has not only aged well but is also potentially paying for a semester of grad school...
Turns out that my copies of the first 3 books that were gifted to me as a toddler are rare early editions, and bc I only read them each once (and disliked them, DNFing the series and shelving them away to not be touched again) they're in perfect condition. After running some tests, my copy of the philosopher's stone alone is worth around $300
Fucking unreal. It pays to ignore transphobes everyone!!

Ok one thing that's always bothered me in PJO is Percy's age.
In TLT, he just finished sixth grade, and he's 12. The book takes place over summer vacation, and his birthday is in August. However, all of my friends who had summer bdays were still 11 when they finished sixth grade. Unless you're in with ppl born a different year from you, you are 11, turning 12 either during or after the school year, depending on your birth month.
And this continues through the series!!! In TLO, Percy turns 16 at the end of the book. Meaning he should have just finished TENTH grade.
An explanation I came up with as a kid was that since the books are narrated in past tense, and Percy says he "is" 12 in TLT, maybe he was 11 during the events of the book, and is narrating from just after his bday? But this only confuses the timeline more.
There's no Watsonian explanation for this that I can think of. If he was held back, how is he both the same age as Annabeth AND graduating hs with her? The Doylist argument is that Rick was sloppy about ages in relation to school grades, but for a former schoolteacher, that's a little surprising. So I'm stumped.

I know it's a semi-common sentiment that if Freddie Mercury ever did musical theatre he'd be a perfect Frank n' Furter, which don't get me wrong, I fully agree, but hear me out:
If it had existed back in the 80s, Freddie would be a perfect Ricky Potts in Ride the Cyclone. Specifically for Space Age Bachelor Man purposes. Here's my reasoning:
-Glam rock genre, ofc
-He wears a funky leotard
-THE FALSETTO NOTES
-It's very space-opera, which we know Freddie loved considering his affinity for Star Wars AND doing the soundtrack for Flash Gordon
-Ricky is shy/quiet (previously due to disability which I think should be reinstated but I digress) for most of the show but super flamboyant onstage, just like Freddie was
-FOURTEEN CATS. No further comment.
For those unfamiliar with RTC/SABM, here's a recording:

If you need me, I'll be imagining this for eternity.
