Your Guardian has to rest. What is their living space like: he has a hammock in a small, closet like room. There's no windows but there is a skylight that he can crack open. He keeps several candles for light, and a small kinetic noisemaker for a sound source.

Does your Guardian have any casual wear?: Emin wears a long, cream colored embroidered shirt that goes to his knees and ends just above his elbows. He also wears dark yellow pants that end just above his ankles and sandals.

What hobbies and/or skills does you Guardian have: Emin tries to keep plants - but he is highly skilled at killing them. If he is good at one normal-person thing, it's the brewing of tea.

Where was your Guardian reborn?(If you created the location, give us a little description!): As an Awoken who wanted to return to Earth to aid struggling humanity, Emin's old, repaired ship suffered critical failure just past Mars's orbit with Earth coming into view. Emin died when his cabin rapidly lost atmospheric pressure. Eventually, his ship got pulled into Lunar orbit when it drifted closer, where it crashed for him to be found.

What were they wearing when they were reborn: Emin was wearing a suit suitable for space, but his helmet was off. It took a rescue coordination with Arun and other Guardians to rez him successfully.

What was their reaction to being reborn: panic and a fast death. He was helmetless and experienced rapid depressurization.

What was their reaction to their first rez: "Fuck, I hate this-!" only to dabble (unregistered) in Thanatonautics just some years later.

After being reborn, did they meet friendlies first or hostiles: friendlies, thankfully. An Awoken Hunter was with him when he was Risen. Made things a little easier.

Who was the first other Guardian they met?(Same thing! If you made them, give a little description!): The Hunter's name was Domino, and helped Emin read the name badge on his suit as well as assist in orienting him to the state of things. They traveled together for a short time before they parted ways. Every now and then they meet up and share stories.

Did your Guardian get reborn with, or find, any indication of their past life? If so what do they have/found: his suit had a patch with his name on it - a relic from the Yang Liwei. Beyond that, Emin has not searched about himself nor inquired with Awoken historians or techeuns about his past. He knows it's generally taboo for guardians to do so, and maintains his ignorance.

Does your Guardian have a significant other: he has been intimate with some non-Risen, but they've ended things mutually after uncertainty in long term commitment.

Did your Guardian go explore first before going to The Last City? If so, where to: he and Domino visited a Guardian outpost on the Moon for some skills training before returning to the City.

What was their reaction to first seeing The Last City: immense curiosity in how people lived, and some awe at a huge construct in the middle of the City (the Traveler).

If your Guardian has had any interactions with any civilians (The Last City/The Farm), Eliksni, Cabal, Vex, Hive, Taken, Scorn, Rogue Lightbearers, or Iron Lords/War Lords(if your Guardian is an Old Light) tell us about it!: Emin has met rogue bands of eliksni, but he didn't know what to make of them. He can get by with them, but he is rather standoffish due to a minor lack of diplomatic skills.

Does your Guardian have any unconventional allies or connections(By Vanguard standards): no - he knows people who do and makes trades in favors as needed.

How does your Guardian feel about themselves or others using Stasis: Emin has difficulty maintaining internal balance for long periods of time while using Stasis. It makes him uncomfortable, and seeing others use it so freely and liberally makes him uncomfortable.

Did they run The Last Wish raid? How did they react to seeing a live Ahamkara a.k.a Riven: He was awestruck to see an Ahamkara and felt grief and anger that a creature so spectacular must be killed. Emin had to be punched in the shoulder by his fireteam to shake him back to the task at hand.

Did they run The Deep Stone Crypt raid? How did they react to the Crypt and seeing Exo Eliskni: Fear - what would they have to do to contain these secrets? Who could piece together the technology and use it for all of the wrong reasons?

Is your Guardian from D1? How did they react to seeing Taniks alive once again: "What fucking terrible luck....."

Where did they go and what did they do during The Red War: After losing his Light, Emin fervently stuck with his fireteam - "we survive in numbers," he said. Shazarad nearly quit, but was persuaded by Menhit to remain. They remained in the wilds while moving away from the City walls and escaping into the dense forestry. Faced with the looming threat of a final death of starvation, Emin was convinced by Menhit to follow encrypted communications to a holdout location on an old farm. From there (and slightly more fed), the three flew escort missions. They were away from the City when it was retaken and the Light was restored.

And finally, does your Guardian have any advice for any New Lights: "It's never a bad thing to take cover!"

The Darkness is fast approaching. How is your Guardian handling it: He is a little scared for what the darkness has in store. It's nature is a little undefined for him, and that frightens him. He is slow to turn to what other Guardians have accepted.

“Những Dòng Không Đâu” is the real and full name of my blog.

I’m posting today something about my home town, Hue, Vietnam. The ancient royal capital is well known and watered by The Perfume River (Sông Hương). The Perfume River

by tôn thất tuệ Around the world, many rivers become the embodiment of their hosts: Thames of London, Seine of Paris, Danube of Vienna, Moldau of Prague, to mention a few…and Beethoven never forgot his 'father' Rhine. In my case, the Perfume River incarnates the City of Huế, ancient royal capital of Vietnam. She is, herself, nourishing the mind of generations after generations; she is spelling the term of endearment. In 1802, after pacifying the whole country to become the first king of the Nguyễn House, Nguyễn Phúc Ánh settled down in Huế and sped up the construction of the royal citadel. Why did he choose a narrow strip of land pushed to the sea by the Annamite Chain, the like of La Sierra, USA? Historians provided with many convincing theories. But for the Hueist who wish to claim the famous emperor to their camp, the prime reason dwelt in his love of the Perfume River. To compare with the Mekong in the South where Nguyễn Phúc Ánh emerged as a prevailing warlord, the Perfume represents just a piece of gossamer, having no commercial or strategic interests. Her values are embedded in her peacefulness and her romanticism. They are attributed not only to her geographical disposition, but also in her witnessing a flow of historical events with more vicissitudes than splendors. In 1876, the great grandson of the dynasty founder was outnumbered by the French expeditionary legion that fusilladed the capital. This marked the total colonization of Vietnam. While the resistance was smoldering, spot by spot in the whole country, the Perfume received a young and dynamic king in a getaway sampan on her water. Duy Tân, disguised as a commoner, left the Forbidden Palace, crossed the river toward the mountain to raise the banner of the national recuperation. His dream was annihilated by betrayal. He was arrested, and banished to the Reunion Island, North Africa; many of his followers were beheaded. Then came the immolation of the ailing monarchy. In 1945, the last king abdicated in favor of the new authority. In a stone throw from the Perfume, Bảo Đại surrendered the tokens of the royalty: the seal and the sword. The worst scare to the water body was carved in 1968. On the Monkey Lunar New Year, the Communist forces invaded the whole city. The South government took it back in fierce battles. The usurpers ran away after committing a mass murder. They killed in a hurry or buried alive those they detained during their one month long occupation. Of the new millennium just ushered, the maiden year of 2003 chronicled a large toll in the river but the Perfume was not guilty, not the villain. The Annamite Chain, as a vertical cliff, retained all the moisture from the Pacific Ocean then unleashed torrential rains into her and her sisters in the Center of VN. The whole City of Huế was engulfed in a yellowish lagoon. If Hue dwellers suffered quite a bit from this catastrophic flood, it seemed that they enjoyed around August and September mild chronic inundations that made the river closer to them by her swollen bosom. Once the murky water siphoned off into the sea, the Perfume repossessed her perennial limpid mirror reflecting the old royal wall punctuated with watchtowers. The sandy bed and marine plants are noticeable like in a giant aquarium endowed by the nature. A Western tourist, a century ago, wrote home that he roamed a boat in the Perfume smoothly as in a small lake. Wooden sampans moved slowly on the silver fluvial artery as if unfolding music scores celebrating the sauntering crepuscule. Up to the 1970 there were almost no motorized canoes, which helped boost the stillness. But at times, roaring nautical ski boats infringed the holy pastoral reverie. That kind of sport, province of the rich and privileged, revealed the other aspect of the city which she reflected too as she reflected the royal complex. Right at the beginning of the domination, the French started to urbanize the undeveloped Right Bank. Administrative service, hospital, treasury, school … swallowed rice paddies, as hungry lions dealt with innocent gazelles. They built a river front sport club as well as churches for themselves and for indigenous adherents to the new religion. Sumptuous villas in European architecture, house to Gallic rulers, appeared in sub tropical gardens. The entire national power was shifted from the Left Bank with a toy king to the Right Bank of His Excellence the Omnipotent Envoy. At the wake of the political downfall, a poet referred to the Perfume as a stream of tears mourning the defunct national sovereignty. I share this collective infliction, but I grew up when its acuteness has been somewhat alleviated by the latent healing effects of the time. Hue became introvert, kept silent the most possible.I used to wander along the river, mainly when the sky was somber, adrift like an autumnal dead leaf. One time I wondered what if I had to leave the town and this river, and I said to myself I should die. Ironically, after high school, I went down to the South for higher studies, was assigned to government jobs, then got married, I never came back to see the river, and I never die. (Actually I did come back but in many one day long official missions which kept me in meetings and formal dinners). If someone asks me which is the most speaking feature of the Perfume, I would pick the swans crossing the river in school days; swans in quotation marks. I would elaborate as follows:On the Right Bank, there were two famous and adjacent schools, one for boys and one for girls. (Forget, please, the one for boys, I’m boy). The girls’ uniform was white; conical leaf hats, white too, are not mandatory but all of them donned these. The campuses were situated right in between two bridges. It was too far for a walk, that’s why young ladies in white residing in the Left Bank decided to make a short cut. Roofless sampans helped them. Each student played part of a feather of the colossal swans skating smoothly on the undisturbed water.This must have been the most immaculate image since the time when time was created. I’ve just returned to the ancient royal city, after five decades, to discover that the beloved swans had been butchered. A bridge was built right at the place where female students boarded the sampans. The white uniform was crossed out from the school handbook. Walking then crossing the river was not practical. Motorcycles replaced sampans instead. I walk onto the new bridge. Watching the mountain in the river, I got a chill. An old mystical revelation surged back to my mind. A long time ago, shortly before the twilight, I was on the old bridge. I watched the indigo mountains, and uttered these words: “the real master of my life is the chain of mountain that plunges into the river, tainting dark the river to be embraced by the river”*. I’ve kept trying to decipher the enigma. I hope that I could fathom it, not analytically but intuitively and that the Perfume River retains this mysticism Now the drifter me, back as a tourist, as an outsider, still was not immune from the sacred attachment to something unreal but real. The prodigal son came back to enliven the remembrances of the time lost. May his last visit, shorter than a blink of the eye, be transcended into eternity; may the Perfume embalm the rest of his life, shower him with tranquility. But, helas, wisdom has it that the devouring nostalgia stays incurable, incurable forever.===

Lunar Chronicles Headcanon

The Rampion Crew on a road-trip:

Cinder: reads the entire trip. She makes it a point not to sit besides Thorne because he always tries to talk to her. She 100% argues that the physical book is better than reading on a tablet. Snack choice: chips totally not because Thorne hates the sound of people chewing. Music choice: instrumental covers of songs so she can focus on reading, although she tries to avoid popular songs that people will sing along to. 

Cress - always wants to play different road trip games (license plate game, ABC game, I spy). Most people will play for a little bit, but usually get bored after a while. Except Jacin he loves playing and not just because he always wins. Snack choice: Anything sweet, usually the buy 2 for $1 ones. Music choice: Disney or musicals

Iko - does not get off her phone, complains when someone wants to use her charger because for some reason her phone is always at 10% Usually on social media, online shopping, or make-up tutorials. Says wait hold on whenever someone talks to her. Snack choice: trail mix that’s mainly almonds, dark chocolate, and dried cherries. Music choice: today’s hits or music that’s more suited to dancing than road trips. 

Jacin - would rather die than be on a car trip with these people. Does whatever the person next to him his doing. Talks to Scarlet, reads, sleeps, watches movies. Usually Cress sits next to him so someone will play games with her. The crew’s second mom you know he’s always making sure everyone is safe, takes pictures, brings extra coats, has a first aid kit. Snack choice: he says it’s chex mix, but everyone knows he only eats the brown chips and steals Winter’s candy when nobody is looking. Music choice: classical music, but only when he’s playing a game with Cress. He has Scarlet play classic rock because everyone sings along and he knows it makes everyone happy. 

Kai - actually gets really sick in cars. He usually ends up in the front trying not to be nauseous. which is fine because Scarlet usually distracts him. Offers everyone the front because he feels bad, but everyone is fine with him sitting there. Snack choice: Soda and saltines, anything to calm his stomach. Music choice: indie music that nobody knows

Scarlet - she usually ends up driving. Mostly because everyone trusts her despite the violent road rage and they only switch off if it’s a long trip and she needs to sleep. Every one likes to ride shotgun because Scarlet is the best person to talk to. She’s the secret keeper and makes the car feel safe. She’s also the snack mom, making sure everyone’s favorite snacks are brought along, oops Jacin I accidentally only brought the brown chips again, sorry. She also makes a road trip mix with everyone’s favorites. At this point she knows everyone’s secrets and remains an enigma to the group. Snack choice: plain back coffee that she gets from mcdonalds and doesn’t get anything else for anyone. Music choice: usually whatever anyone else wants, but she throws in some French songs into the mix. 

Thorne - high key salty that nobody let’s him drive after the small fender bender which he denies any blame. Usually he sulks and is a backseat driver. After five minutes of sulking he tries to enter whatever conversation is happening, only to start sulking again when someone makes a joke at his expense. Snack choice: literally anything that smells bad just to annoy everyone since he can’t drive. Pickles have officially been banned and they are currently arguing about where the group stands with beef jerky. Music Choice: country or rap. Mainly because nobody wants to listen to country and Iko’s the only one that likes rap. you know damn well this bitch would sing the most extra country songs shamelessly.

Winter - brings a million movies that would be impossible to watch in the time frame. She sits next to Wolf so she can stretch out without bothering anyone. Snack choice: sweets, just like Cress, but usually the hard candies. Music choice: early 2000′s pop music, Thorne sings louder than anyone else.

Somehow he always wakes up when the car is stopped and comments on how short or fun the trip is. Snack choice: fresh vegetables, usually carrots. Music choice: classical music, mainly because it helps him sleep.

Now for the main obsessions.

Waterparks - Crybaby

This was just a regular obsession, but then it became a main one. I heard this song while my sister and I were browsing around in Hot Topic one day and it caught my attention so I decided to look it up when I got home and wound up loving it. Like I've mentioned in the past: I'm a sucker for pitch-shift harmonies, and this song has plenty of them. I've checked out some of their other songs and they don't appeal to me (I'm not into pop-punk), but this song is absolutely amazing.

Battle Beast - No More Hollywood Endings

Noora is such a drag queen and I love it. Homegirl PAINTS her face. Anyways, this song is so good. It's such a fun and powerful track. Noora's voice is so strong in this song and is such a great first single for the upcoming release (which I'm so excited for).

Raizer - Precious

I went through a bit of a phase where I was listening to a good bit of electro-rock/metal and this is definitely one of the better ones I heard. It's such a beautiful track and the singer has such a pretty voice. I'm definitely gonna look into more from these guys, because this track definitely has me intrigued.

Jinjer - Perennial 

The Micro EP is a very impressive one from these guys and I think this has to be my favorite off it. The video is great and I especially love seeing the instruments being played by bodies in a graveyard; it's so cool. This track really shows off Tati's versatility as a singer really well and just how powerful her cleans and screams can get.

Qveen Herby - BDE

This is such a fun song off EP 5 and is my favorite off it. And again, Amy turned out some sickening looks for the video. It definitely has a cheesy factor that I really like with all the eggplants all throughout the video for a song about big dick energy. The chorus sounds so innocent and fun, even though it really isn't that innocent. And that rap verse is everything.

Une Misere - Damages

Found this ball-buster of a track thanks to their record label. This is an amazing blackened death metal track and it has such cool and intense riffs. It's constantly in your face from start to finish and I can't get over it. The video might be simple, but the imagery and the atmosphere it creates really suits the song.

Swallow the Sun - Firelights

This is such a beautiful track. I need to hurry up and listen to the new album, because I'm loving everything I'm hearing from it so far. Mikko's voice is so lovely and you get a great feel for that in this song. He puts so much heart and emotion into it. And I absolutely love the nod to Aleah at the end of the video when they showed her iconic necklace laying in the snow. It's making me wonder if this album just might be dedicated to her or if there will at least be a few dedicated to her.

Lunar Path - The One Behind the Mirror

I found this song while digging around on my first YouTube account and I fell in love instantly. I love gothic metal songs that invoke this kind of vibe and I especially love the fact that their front woman isn't afraid to get into her lower register. That lower register in the chorus is everything. It's so beautiful and haunting. I'm definitely am gonna be checking out more from these guys. It's such a bummer they broke up though.

Imperia - Book of Love

This was their second single of Flames of Eternity and it's a powerful one. It's so lovely and heartfelt. Helena has such an amazing way of channeling her emotions into music, and this track is pure proof of that. I especially love the shift to the dramatic side during the last chorus. That power and beauty is just one of the things that I absolutely love about this band. Definitely go check out Flames of Eternity. It's such an epic and amazing album.

I hope you guys enjoy this new format, because I'm loving it. The posts are easier to make and are more spaced out than before, which again, makes these posts a lot easier to do. But enough of that, let's wonder what March has in store for us.

Now I remember, when I was making these accounts on twitter and getpocket, I was adding these #tags (connecting words to my profile), time helped me forget these, is something very weird happening, that I am just driven out/away, unable to continue and reach my goal. I guess is because of the audience, who can see it and what is doing about it, that’s making my present or unfortunate fate. Now I am upset for losing these accounts, is like I leave a piece of me inside it taken by the wind away. I think I omit to say about my way of naming on colourlovers.

Three Point Perspective: Arctic Monkeys Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino

The long-awaited Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino graced us with its epic release last Friday. Without a single released prior to the Monkey’s first San Diego show at The Observatory North Park since AM’s 2013 release, fans were left with the question of what the new era would sound like. With Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino finally being released, there are several themes that are spread throughout the tracks such as the importance of cell phones in modern society, and the effects of fame. ‘Star Treatment’ kicks off the album with Alex reflecting on his past times before the fame. Followed by ‘One Point Perspective’, a much darker track which seems to involve questioning fame once again and how it affects the band. Both ‘American Sports’ and ‘The Ultracheese’ from the very first second consist of Johnny Cash and Bowie’s spacey vibes. There’s no surprise that the band decided to incorporate a tad of Bowie in their new album after The Last Shadow Puppets decided to cover Bowie’s ‘Moonage Daydream’ during their Everything You’ve Come To Expect tour. The title track and ‘Science Fiction’ are lyrically the most creative listens. With lines such as, “Jesus in the day spa, filling out the information form’, and “Reflections in the silver screen of strange societies, swamp monster with a hard-on for connectivity”, reminding me of how much more lyrically impressive Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino is compared to AM. The transition specifically between ‘Golden Trunks’ and what seems to be most fan’s favoured track ‘Four Out of Five’ is a definite pick me up from ‘Golden Trunks’ dark political lines, “Bendable figures with a fresh new pack of lies” and a person’s blind devotion ‘“When true love takes a grip, it leaves you without a choice”. When the album’s titles were released ‘The World's First Ever Monster Truck Front Flip’ intrigued most. Assuming that there will be a heavy guitar riff or a similar AM ‘R U Mine?’ sound from the ‘roughness’ of the title was the complete opposite. What ‘The World's First Ever Monster Truck Front Flip’ brings is the most Suck It and See throwback feelings. The chorus throughout ‘She Looks Like Fun’ being the most intriguing with Alex referring to modern society scrolling through their Instagram feeds, “Good morning/Cheeseburger/Snowboarding”. ‘Batphone’ continues this theme of technology and how individuals aren’t living in ‘the reality’. Overall, it seems that opinions have been split from fans of AM’s 2013 era, but I personally am completely lyrically blown away from Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino’s entirety. It’s almost like a continuation of Everything You’ve Come To Expect with similar sounds of ‘The Bourne Identity’ and ‘Aviation’, but minus Miles. With new the additions of the piano, and synthesizers I believe that they have enhanced the new direction that the Monkey’s have stepped toward and I already can’t wait for what they’ll decide to make next.

Four out of five stars on Arctic Monkeys’ comeback ‘Tranquillity Base Hotel and Casino’

After five years of silence, the Arctic Monkeys make their much-awaited return with surprising and hypnotic ‘Tranquillity Base Hotel and Casino’. Perfectly managing to avoid self-parody or stylistic repetitions, this new album appears as a startling reinvention, a meandering and puzzling journey beyond known territories. Just like mankind first set foot on the moon on the ‘Tranquillity base’ site, the Arctic Monkeys disembark in an unknown universe in which they reveal a new, unexpected aspect of themselves.

It would be difficult to distinguish a single in this album: unlike 2013 structured indie rock success ‘AM’, ‘Tranquillity Base Hotel and Casino’ appears as a puzzle, a tangled enigma with no apparent solution, the value of which precisely resides in this sophisticated lack of clarity. As the album opens with the bewitching track ‘Star Treatment’, one is confounded in disorientation, before eventually letting the album settle a logic of its own. Some songs appear nearly unconstructed, yet simultaneously refined and complex, echoing the way in which the lyrics present a dense yet also elliptic unique form of prose, like a stream of consciousness, melodically unfolding itself. Turner’s deep and captivating voice strongly reminds of Gainsbourg’s early 70s half-spoken verses, sometimes erudite and poetic, sometimes full of derision, such as on the opening line of the album: ‘I just wanted to be one of the Strokes’. A sense of irony, or at least of strong self-awareness emerges throughout the tracks of the album, reflecting a conscious decision to move away from an older musical style that it would make no sense to replicate, in order to engage in a necessary and well-executed new path.

‘Tranquillity Base Hotel & Casino’ however seems to reflect Turner’s personal evolution more than it presents a real fruition of the Arctic Monkeys as a band, and the instrumentals, although displaying intense and elegant arrangements, create a harmonious echo to the vocals rather than they truly establish the band’s presence. The addition of the piano accompanying Turner’s reflective vocals partially replaces Helder’s vibrant drums that helped define the band’s early albums and marks a notable shift, both asserting a form of musical maturity, and avowing the forfeiture of a constitutive element of the band’s sound. ‘Tranquillity base hotel & casino’ seems to retain a sense of continuity with Turner’s side project The Last Shadow Puppets, and particularly of their 2016 album ‘Everything You’ve Come to Expect’, although it appears to be more intricate and subtle in many of its aspects. Final song ‘Ultracheese’ captures the best this album has to offer, presenting a rich and magnetic journey in this captivating new universe.

Despite its obviously divisive aspects, this album undeniably presents an extremely successfully crafted creation, a melodic and truly bewitching masterpiece. ‘Tranquillity Base Hotel & Casino’ reflects the Arctic Monkeys’ ability to transcend genres and provide their audience with impressive yet always effective transformations.

The year is 2018 and the Arctic Monkeys have returned. To celebrate their return, they’ve given us their sixth record, Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino. And yes, though it’s 2018, this album feels like it belongs right in between vinyl copies of the Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds and David Bowie record. With this record, one has to remember this album isn’t the sequel to AM, nor it should it be viewed as its heir. This is a record that’s beyond its years that also dwells in the time before it, and it’s more conceptual than full story sometimes- nonetheless it’s still a record.

The album starts with ‘Star Treatment,’ a glittering Bowie-esque opening that’s chock full of jazz tones, vocal effects, and piano. Here, Alex Turner plays the reflective celebrity, singing in whispery echoed tones about how he wishes he was one of the Strokes, or just someone unforgettable. Peppered with pop culture references and metaphor, ‘Star Treatment’ is sultry and mysterious, as if Turner’s singing in dim light surrounded by fog and old-school movie lights.

After ‘Star Treatment’ is ‘One Point Perspective,’ has an opening much like the opening piano notes of Panic! At the Disco’s ‘Nine in the Afternoon,’ but has a much different mood than the aforementioned. This song instrumentally blends classical elements with lounge music and is reflective like the blues as Turner, or at least the song’s character laments former dreams and youthful aspirations. The music helps fill in the gaps on this track a great deal, as there are a number of instrumental breaks. The album then abruptly shifts into the spoken-word like ‘American Sports,’ is a veiled commentary on the similarities and differences between the fictional society described in the album and present-day- “Breaking news, they take the truth and make it fluid…A montage of the latest ancient ruins/Soundtracked by a chorus of "You don't know what you're doing"”.

The album’s title track is woozy and moody, and Turner uses his voice and volume to make for an interesting narration to the story presented in the song. He gives us a slightly morose and faraway idea of what exactly we’re supposed to visualize- as if we’re staring at Earth right from this supposed lunar resort’s call center. But Turner paints life there is not all that it’s what it’s cracked up to be as he sings, “And do you celebrate your dark side/Then wish you'd never left the house? /Have you ever spent a generation trying to figure that one out?”. ‘Golden Trunks,’ is possibly unintentional political commentary, but besides that, much like the rest of the album, it uses metaphor and lyric to graze pointed satire and musings about society, which is a prevalent theme on the album. It’s as if perpetually being in this world that Turner’s created moves one to think more and open up as well, considering this is the closest thing we have to a love song on this album.

Next is ‘Four Out of Five,’ which possibly wins the prize for fan favorite. ‘Four Out of Five’ is the grounding track, the one that sounds the most like the quintessential Arctic Monkeys we’re familiar with since the song is the perfect balance of mysterious but quotable lyrics, a catchy bassline, and an outro that drives one to hit the replay button. Lyrically, the song further explains the concept of Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino, while also leaving fans to wonder the intricacies of an information-action ratio, the idea that we have a myriad of information that we’ve no idea how to deal with.  ‘The World’s First Ever Monster Truck Front Flip’ discusses the instantaneous nature of technology and Turner wonders if its effects are positive or not- and yes, the title of the song was somehow wonderfully in the lyrics, which is a feat all on its own. ‘Science Fiction’ asks for a lasting impression that might be temporary- “So I tried to write a song to make you blush/But I’ve a feeling that the whole thing/May well just end up too clever for its own good/The way some science fiction does”.  ‘She Looks Like Fun’ is the most lyrically confusing yet genius track on the record, with a chorus so bizarre it almost makes sense, but doesn’t. The album closes with ‘The Ultracheese,’ a piano-heavy track that brings the album back to where it started- a reflection upon what’s been gained, lost, and blurred through celebrity and life in general. It’s a beautiful, downtempo ballad between a man, his mind, and his piano that provides a clearer close to a record that’s quite interesting.

With ‘Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino,’ Alex Turner and Co. are not here to make lovely ballads. If the Arctic Monkeys have been christened as indie-rock gods, then these gods are acting in their sovereignty to do as they please, not to save what’s in need to be saved. This is the Arctic Monkeys at their most honest, and even if this honesty is befuddling lyrically, it’s still honesty displayed in its most semi-autobiographical form.

Wonders of the Moon - A Thousand Years of Sleepwalking

We close our eyes in order to simulate (and make ourselves available to) the time of darkness: a phenomenological atmospheric attuning to an entirely anonymous, indifferent, and inhuman nature of the cosmos. Dark has been both the medium of worship and of deviation. It is where the forgetter (the conspirator), the sleepwalker (the associator), the eraser (the sorcerer), and the smuggler (the polluter) are active. It is the time when they are at work. After-dark is the underground of time, as Jason Bahbak Mohaghegh, the philosopher of deception and masks, proposes. It is where something other and something horror can happen. In crossing the dark, certain figures (shadow, moon, jinn, nature, God) of the premodern Indo-Persian world dissolve into familiar shapes and have a dynamic of disruptive presence within human world.

Grounded on artistic research in medieval cosmologies, Wonders of the Moon - A Thousand Years of Sleepwalking is a video-installation imagined to be a lunar montage machine to render a series of misplaced narratives of shape-shifting and delirious figures in the middle ages from West Asia, a cabinet of curiosities that is dealing with the dark. It consists of figures, associations, atmospheres, and imageries that are inspired by the speculative science of bestiaries, a premodern world of horror-wonder literature. Bestiaries are medieval practices of description that were preoccupied with the monsters, marvels, and irregularities of the nature, encompassing a wider poetics of Muslim imaginal ecological consciousness.

Starting with Mohaghegh's work on the renditions of nocturnality throughout history (Night: A Philosophy of the After-Dark Jason Bahbak Mohaghegh 2019) this work proposes a cognitive kinship with the dark by paying descriptive attention to a series of wonder-filled histories of nature from the Islamic premodern era: cutting the moon in half, intensity of perception in a bottomless pit on the top of the mountain, ecological disruptions of a speaking grave, a sentient shadow called jinn, swallowing the black curse of a sorcerer, God's turbulent relation to obscurity, measuring the dimensions of hell, and so on. In collaboration with artist and researcher Goda Palekaitė, this work stages a cabinet of stories that deal with evocation, mediation, death, deceit, memory, suspension, desire, unreal, and fear.

Reading bestiaries from the 12th and 14th century West-Asia is filled with pleasure of recognizing a described world. The experience of bestiary’s mode of description is like a sudden event happening so quickly we don't have a name for what we see, cannot identify the motion. Therefore animals in medieval wonder-literature often had many legs, arms or heads. Because motion itself was the patterning life of energy in a world of vanishing forms. That is the active capacities of description: mutating realism—a various and lustrous consciousness that reflects back the self that is doing the act of describing. As such, to remember animal-human histories in a heritage site such as Ajayeb al-makhlughat bestiary can be a play of ambiguities that are evocative and detailed, yet not productive of harsh universalities. It can be productive of dictionaries and abstractions, yet precise in being fabulous and thrown into a prisma of lived compositions now.
