Now, wasn't this a situation. The Castle That Never Was had been uncharacteristically quiet as of late—most of the more excitable and/or sociable members had been sent away, and Luxord had yet to adapt to their absence. Missions themselves had gotten more intense, with those left behind made to pick up the slack... but there were still the evenings and the downtime they brought with them.

Luxord was so bored without the sort of poker league that he'd set up a game of solitaire for himself he was slowly chipping away at without any of his usual engagement. The sound of footsteps entering The Grey Area drew his attention, piercing blue eyes lifting to level on Roxas. They hadn't talked much since the crew had shipped out, but then again no one had spoken much save for what work demanded.

"Care for a game?" he asked, the casual, friendly tone in his voice belying the somberness within. "I'm afraid solitaire has already worn out its welcome." To emphasize his point, he swept the cards from the table into his hands to begin to shuffle with deft, practiced movements, even without an answer. "Things have gotten quite dry around here. Wouldn't you agree?"

The two glanced at each other; in the end, Ludor was the one who answered: "We aren't Heirs, no. They've simply hired us to help with security."

"And that means not letting me through, huh?"

"I'm afraid so."

Brain tried very, very hard not to scream. "You know I'm a Union Leader, right? Think I'm probably allowed."

"My apologies," Lodur said, and to his credit, he did look apologetic, "but our instructions were to let no one through, save for the Heirs."

"That right?" Well. Now he had to figure out what they were guarding. "Don't suppose there's anything I could do to convince you otherwise?"

Both Lodur and Ludor were silent for a few moments, and Brain was beginning to think he'd have to find a way to sneak around them when Ludor finally asked, "How about a game?"

YEAHHH FOR REAL.........i've definitely noticed the parallels too!! i hadnt even thought about the "faceless observer" stuff, thats really cool....both of them having huge impacts on history but not being remembered by it...SO much too think about !!!

especially since i have this not-super-concrete just-for-fun pet theory that Luxord is the Player (Ludor, a potential name, is latin for "I play"; hes the only good candidate if the games need to have a character turn to the camera and say "I'm the Player" or something to that effect; he uses time magic, so does Xehanort, maybe he rubbed off on him when he raised him; some other little details)

and like...im not much for shipping most of the time, but xiglux with player!Luxord goes SO hard. and without the shipping context it's still a really compelling set of parallels to me. space/time, for starters. the possibilities of one person being reincarnated over and over and encountering the other's different possessed vessels over the ages. and it adds another layer to the "black goat/white goat" thing.

see, the term "scapegoat" comes from a ritual described in the Bible in Leviticus 16, where two goats are chosen—one (the "scapegoat") has all of the sins and impurities of the community laid on it and is cast out into the wilderness, and the other, free of sin, is sacrificed. and like....Luxu is sent into the wilderness bearing a part of Darkness, and the Player is sacrificed during the events of KHUX...

...but also the games have kinda tried to avoid giving the Player a canon gender/appearance, and having a specific character with a canon gender and appearance be the Player goes against that. i kinda doubt we'll get another appearance of the Player in a mainline game. and if we do, it might not even be Luxord! and i'd be totally fine with that LOL. this is just a for fun theory.

in any case, itd be interesting to see those parallels played with in some way in canon—but one of the best things about KH to me is how much is left as a sandbox for folks to think about and discuss outside the context of the games. not every single parallel and detail needs to have an in-canon acknowledgement!

What if Luxord was Keykiid's apprentice? I believe this because they both use cards (in Chi, before the medals, cards were used) they both use darkness and light, in addition to ludor, one of the possible names of Luxord's somebody, which means playing, what do you think?

it's an interesting theory! i've been thinking of the possibility that player themself could be luxord (though it's a bit of a stretch since we don't know what the exact rules for reincarnation are yet), but apprentice seems plausible too — especially since in the jp dialogue for the final dark road cutscene, xehanort calls player "master" (not necessarily indicative of them having apprentices, but interesting to note either way)

related to their similarities, i also keep thinking about that kh3 remind scene between luxord and xigbar, specifically where luxord says, "yes, that's what i've always done. i followed the orders from above without question." obviously this could just as easily be me picking out coincidences and making connections where there aren't any, but i have to admit that it just makes me think of player's line in the clock tower when they confronted their foreteller: "i've done everything that was expected of me without a second thought."

which also reminds me of luxord saying "the game isn't over until it's over" in the caribbean, which seems to be becoming something of a reoccuring line — it's said once in the loading screen of xehanort and eraqus's chess game with the exact same wording, ephemer says a variant of it in the khux finale ("it's not over till it's over, skuld."), and even player sorta says it right before they fade away though it's a lot more truncated and could be handwaved away ("it's not over yet."). it's interesting to me to see who gets those lines, and out of all of those luxord's sticks out like a sore thumb to me; sure, games are kinda his thing, but it seems like a line that's gaining some importance, so to give it to luxord of all people feels suspicious — all part of him becoming more important in the story moving forward supposedly

(and this probably isn't related at all so i'm just slipping this in last, but in that dark road q&a there's a question about odin where nomura just says "Naturally, Master Odin also had a master to mentor him. Said master entrusted Odin with a mission, which actually ties in with the identity of the blue-robed individual." and it just . it hasn't left my head because there are so many things you could extrapolate from it. does this imply player and odin had the same master? or is player odin's master? are they completely unrelated and the mission is the only thing that connects them? it keeps me up at night)

anyway i'm rambling but tldr; i think there's a lot of tiny details that link player and luxord together and it's fun to think about what their connection could possibly be, and i'm more than excited to see what gets revealed about them in the coming installments !!

Morning warm-up with Luxord/Ludor as Player. Even if I've never been a big fan of Luxord I really like that theory.

As you exit the forest of the north, just south of the Lunari River, you cross from a densley wooded area into the wide open farmland of Ludor. 

If you follow this path down the hill, you’ll eventually find the main street and entirety of the official town of Ludor. The residents live spread out across the land, bordering their fields in small clan bundles or a few families. 

This cropland feeds much of the north and large parts of the Veyan realm to the south.
