this scene, and specifically this hug, shows so much character/relationship development that I'm actually losing my mind about it.

Theron spends so much time uncertain about their relationship (seeming to think it's just a fling after SoR, then doubting whether or not she wants to continue a relationship after being trapped in carbonite for so long, and again after infiltrating the Order of Zildrog) - and there's plenty of moments in KOTET and Fractured Alliances where he's terrified of losing Luci, which of course comes to a head when he reminds her that he made a promise to do anything to protect her/why he's such a workaholic, etc.

So, the fact that once they're engaged (married? unclear?), Theron can say goodbye to her simply with a quick hug and a cheek kiss, with complete and utter certainty that she'll be okay and come back - come back to him - says so much about how stable their relationship is, especially in the wake of Nathema. No dramatic "I love you" or promises to come back, no passionate kiss - just a casual, but incredibly intimate hug and cheek kiss that says "see you in a little bit"? I'm chewing drywall.

Today's makeup tip is that the first item in your makeup kit should be makeup remover. Before anything else. Because frankly, you need to be able to clean your skin up quickly and efficiently! You're going to have a bad time if you don't allow yourself the materials you need to get it off. Because your first attempt is probably going to be bad. Your second will be slightly better. i headcanon that fell morgan is secretly a papa's boy but also traumatized, because rkc was the only good parental influence in his life, but he also, like died on the regular. regular morgan is slightly more well-adjusted because everyone accepts him, even the people he tried to kill, but he is also a papa's boy. he's actually just both tbh, which is why he latches onto chrom at first because he's a good husband and dad

then rkc comes along, which kind of triggers some of his memories and so comes this period of time where he's 100% chrom's son. he's got a sword, he relies more on his STR than MAG, he's classed into lord, etc.

he's basically scared that the same thing might happen, but he doesn't want to show it because he's the optimistic one—lucina's the one who's afraid constantly, never letting herself enjoy the now.

but then rkc catches on and he nudges the regular chrom towards a heart to heart. and morgan's not totally over it, but he's sort of back to the status quo

and when he returns to ylisse, he has this vague memory of meeting everyone from askr, so his support plays out slightly differently where it's actually just him saying that he recalls chrom but in fleeting dreams, like some thing is preventing him from remembering

which is how everyone finds out that naga basically gave him amnesia so he'd lean into being good

Caitlyn would enjoy Life is Strange due to its theme of moral choices

i think she’d be a bit thrown off by the more supernatural aspects of the game, but she’d enjoy nonetheless

she’s pretty much canonically a detective figure

so i think she’d be pretty satisfied if she manages to uncover something beforehand

hello new friend, you picked someone who is having a real bad time in this au (ﾟωﾟ；)

I am going to give some general information about Yutu and then move on to some Riddle specific stuff.

notes: they/them used for Yuu, general au explanation can be found here, and the posts can be found on my masterlist under the series section.

General Yutu Facts

"Yutu" is supposed to be a fake name fyuuture kid is using to help hide his identity, but I am open to suggestions on that. Originally he didn't remember his name and Crowley picked it out for him, but I like the idea of "Yuu two" being a nickname he had in both your world and Twisted Wonderland and picked as his alias to honor his parent. Yutu really admires Yuu, he has nothing but empathy for your situation and respect for your strength, and while he certainly fought with you from time to time (some Yutus more than others) he wants to be like you.

That desire was very much cemented when he heard about how you won against the overblot phantoms. Yutu's unique magic changes depending on who his dad is, but all Yutus have extensive experience in combat magic and have fought a lot of monsters. Including overblot phantoms, same as you. His fights didn't go as well though... he's extremely afraid of the Great Seven's phantoms and has regular nightmares about them.

Back to the names... I didn't have names picked out for every version of Yutu, but Riddle does happen to have been one of them. His real name was supposed to be March, yes like the march hare but if I'm honest I was more thinking about the saying "in like a lion out a lamb" because I thought that described Riddle's temper pretty well.

The other ones I picked out I still like are Merrin (I swear I found it on a list of mountain themed names??? But it means sea born or pearl of the sea), Laurie (yes like little women, his unique magic was supposed to something to do with painting), and Roland (I have an unironic love for French peerage ok please do not judge me).

Some of the Yutus were meant to have older siblings who stayed behind in Twisted Wonderland (Riddle! Yutu wasn't one of them), but that was very much an idea I didn't develop extensively since it was more left over from Fire Emblem Awakening. I wanted there to be a Lucina type older sibling character who was very protective of Yutu and wanting a future where he gets to stay in Twisted Wonderland and they get to be a happy family. But again I didn't cook this idea extensively so idk how to feel about keeping it as a part of the ayuu.

Anyway on to the Riddle specific stuff ��‿¬

So that bit about Yutu's real name coming from a description from Riddle's temper: I like to leave what Yutu looks like up to the reader, but Riddle! Yutu if nothing else took two things from his father, his (lack of) height and his temper. His facial expressions when pouting and angry are eerily similar, and they both have a strong affinity for fire. Riddle! Yutu is a lot like Riddle Tsum now that I think about it? Very high energy and likes to jump around all over the place, but determined to be at least somewhat dignified.

Since traveling back in time Yutu has been "studying" with Grim to try and get his flames hot enough to burn blue to flex on his dad and to bond with the monster. He usually just ends up watching him though, the mental image he had of Grim vs what the little guy is actually like is really wild.

Back to the temper, unlike Riddle Yutu wasn't home schooled so he got into a lot of trouble for losing it on other students. He had a chip on his shoulder about not having a dad, having a parent with amnesia, and especially about being short oh god he is so spiteful about that. He got sent to detention a lot, and shamefully it made him fight with Yuu a lot too. Not that he hates Yuu, he was just very emotional and not always the easiest to deal with. His last few interactions with Yuu before they died were very strained, and he is filled with remorse for a bunch of stupid things he said.

When he gets to the point where he has to admit to Yuu who he is there is going to be a lot of crying and begging for forgiveness. He was a stupid, angry kid who just wanted to know who he was and didn't feel like he belonged lashing out at the one person who he knew wanting nothing but the best for him. He doesn't really feel the need to ask for forgiveness from his dad (yet)... by the time Yutu was isekaid into Twisted Wonderland Riddle had been corrupted by his overblot phantom and was wrecking the Queendom of Roses so he never really met the real Riddle until he traveled back in time.

He also got compared to Riddle a lot, Yutu isn't stupid by any means but because of all that time spent in detention he is a bit behind on the fundamentals. Not to mention all Riddle has done up to this point is practice magic and Yutu only just found out it was real so of course there was going to be a skill gap! But still, he's Riddle's son and Riddle was a very memorable student for Crewel, so Yutu was guaranteed to hear some comparisons. It didn't help the daddy issues though...

Speaking of Yutu's time at NRC, he did get placed into Heartslabyul by the Dark Mirror and he does know all 810 rules of the Queen's rules. He's not as obsessed with them as Riddle is but he still knows what he's supposed to do and tries to be on his best behavior. He was not interested in being dorm leader and wanted to instead focus on the things Yuu always encouraged him to do, like controlling his temper and getting good grades.

I sort of like the idea of his unique magic being the ability to grow/shrink because in the book Rule 42 of the Queen of Hearts says “All persons more than a mile high to leave the court" and I like the idea of him trying to use his spell to get out of arguments with his dad.

Riddle has no idea that Yutu hates him... at first. This is partially because Yutu is usually very polite to him and partially because he is utterly unaware of how much people are afraid of him in general, but he starts to pick up on it when he tries to interact with Yuu. He wants to have a private tea party with just Yuu? Well Yutu immediately starts acting like this is somehow scandalous and calls him out on his feelings in front of the prefect and he wants to lose it so badly- Yuu agrees anyway and Riddle immediately gets unreasonably smug while Yutu pouts. Take that sucker! He's going to study with the prefect all alone and since it's Riddle you know you really are just going to study.

I don't think Riddle really considers Yutu a rival for Yuu's romantic attention, partially because he isn't fully aware of what it is he feels for Yuu, but even if he was. Riddle knows that Yuu sees Yutu as someone under their care similar to Grim, they actually talk to him about it quite a bit and he has no issue with that. He is actually sort of grateful for Yutu's existence since it has given him an excuse to talk to Yuu more and let them know how he respects them.

Yutu's academic struggles are something that actually bring him closer to Riddle ironically enough. Riddle has created study guides for Yuu and Grim before, he has no problem doing that for Yutu and inviting himself over to give instructions.

"Did you not get a lot of help from your parents?" Riddle sounds nervous, and he should it's an invasive question to ask. Yutu wants to be angry, but when he looks at Riddle, he just feels sad. "Not that it is any of my business really but well. I just noticed you never really talk about them, even to Yuu."

"My dad wasn't really around." He forces himself to look at Riddle when he says it, but it doesn't make him feel any better. If anything it makes Yutu feel worse, he knows about as much about Riddle as Riddle knows about him now that he's forced to look at him. "And my other parent... they tried really hard. But I wasn't always willing to accept it."

"I can't say I understand what that would be like." Riddle looks like he is trying to and that should be what he wants, right? "My mother home schooled me so it's hard for me to understand that someone's parents wouldn't be a constant figure in their schooling."

"You were home schooled?"

Yutu didn't know anything about his grandmother, it didn't even really occur to him that he had one and once he learns about her... well it certainly makes things make a lot more sense. He doesn't want to meet her, but he is curious about what she thought about his parent. What would she think about him? Does he even want to know?

My last concrete thought is that Yutu doesn't really get the whole horse girl thing. He is sort of afraid of horses actually, but I can see him maybe wanting to ride with Riddle once their relationship gets a bit better just to do something with him.

I like the idea of Riddle! Yutu being very into baseball for some reason and there's no way he's going to convince his dad to do that with him ha. Well not in this timeline anyway, I can see good timeline Riddle doing a bunch of research on baseball so he can talk to his kid about it. And showing up to all his matches to scream in support of his kid instead of at the coaches. He is breaking the cycle we love to see it.

so what do people like about felix? well, let's take a look at (what are probably) his most endearing (to the FE fanbase at large) qualities:

the answer is simple: lon'qu from fire emblem awakening!

unlike felix, lon'qu has been in FEH pretty much since launch. he was even used in the FEH announcement video to showcase the summoning feature! 💖

and in all CYLs except two, lon'qu has placed in the top 100 - proof that he can hold his own in the rankings, even when against new FEH OCs or the influx of FE3H and engage characters! 😲✨

and yet, despite his popularity, he hasn't received much attention from intsys. while he did get a beautiful resplendent outfit, that was in 2022 - nearly 3 years ago! 💔💔💔💔💔

it's a real shame, too! while we've been getting a steady stream of awakening rep through the numerous lucinas, chroms, and robins, it seems like many other awakening characters have simply fallen to the wayside, and lon'qu is no exception to this. it's especially disheartening when he would be such a good fit for a lot of the annual banner themes!! i mean, just consider him on these seasonal banners:

bridal banner: a groom who is afraid of the ladies

child banner: a young lon'qu who only just recently failed to save his friend in a bandit raid

desert banner: a swordsman who has to learn to adapt to a hot climate after spending years in the frigid regna ferox

ninja banner: needs no explanation, really

so, felix fans (and, well, fire emblem fans in general), i'm just asking, one edgy sword boy enjoyer to another, for you to spare a vote for lon'qu if you can! if nothing else, i'd love for him to remain in the top 100 for another year! 🥰🥰🥰

Hello! I was wondering if you've ever posted about the Robin Hel resplendents? I couldn't find it and I'm curious about your take. I love your analyses.

Hmm... I definitely HAVE, because I have interpretations lol, but mmmm my tags are so inconsistent asdfghjkl so sorry to everyone who's ever tried to find anything on my blog (not to mention, tbh, I'm not sure I didn't exclusively post about this on Twitter...). So... let's just do a full writeup right now, shall we?

Basically, uh... Hel M!Robin is "covert Grima" but Hel F!Robin is just wearing edgy clothes.

So the thing is, M!Robin got his resplendent pretty early on, back in 2020. Now, I'm not going to break into a full analysis here because it's a tangential point, but I would argue that FEH's treatment of Robin/Grima/Robin-as-Grima has actually changed over time, with them shifting from "this is literally just Robin gone wrong" to a more... (I can't pretend to be unbiased about this; you KNOW how I feel about Grima = Robin)... genericized "evil entity snatched the body" take (which I can't help but feel is a result of the developers no longer having Awakening fans on staff. I mean look at Rearmed Grima's Forging Bonds. They just straight up forgot that it's a plot-important detail that Lucina doesn't know Robin is Grima. Or look at the Forging Bonds for either of the Brave Robins. The entire premise is flawed because Chrom only takes the title of Exalt postgame, meaning that for Robin to be advisor to the EXALT they must have already defeated Grima and regardless of ending they should NOT be worried about being taken over by Grima.) Anyway, I digress, but the point is that back in 2020 they were still hitting hard on Grima being a Fallen Robin. We hadn't gotten Halloween F!Grima yet and frankly I'm not sure anyone thought that a fallen alt could get alts or resplendents of their own, so... I sort of suspect that's why they wanted to bring in elements of Grima to Hel Robin.

And here's what's really interesting... Hel Robin is the ONLY Hel Resplendent that is implied to ACTUALLY be dead. It's... subtle. "These are the raiments of Hel, the realm of the dead. Don't read too much into that." is... a little bit suspiciously specific in its denial, isn't it? Like, saying NOT to read too much into it is basically an invitation to start scrutinizing it asdfghjkl. And then you have "I may look a little scary, but I'm still the same Robin underneath. Have no fear." And just WHY do you feel the need to assure us of this, Robin? Nobody thinks the Resplendent alts are changing personalities...

But maybe it's because, idk, his eyes get a little redder in his special art?

Again, it's SUBTLE. And if you only look at the special art, you could easily say it's just brown. But, then... why make this change berween normal attack and special? Robin has certainly been portrayed with inconsistent eye colors before, but not in the SAME alt.

And then let's actually look at his special activation lines...

UM... What's that one in the middle there??? "Accept your fate!" ???

Does that not cinch the deal? Do we not know enough about Robin to be able to conclude definitively WHICH Robin would say THAT (and which Robin would reject that kind of thinking outright)?

(I think "Death can be a mercy!" is also very consistent with Grima's worldview and their belief in their power of destruction as "the one true equalizer")

And if all of that wasn't enough, there's also his page on the FEH Pass website, which includes a short introduction written in-character by Sharena. M!Robin's says

Robin's wearing attire from Hel, the realm of the dead! Ohhh, I hope he's OK... Even if he's not feeling like his normal self, this new outfit keeps the black-and-purple theme from his classic look and adds some spooky flair with new patterns and a stylishly frayed hem!

So yeah, Sharena is worried about him and thinks he isn't feeling like his "normal self." Again, M!Robin is the ONLY Hel Resplendent who has any indication of a personality change coming with the clothes. Resplendent F!Robin, despite sharing the outfit's design, doesn't share ANY of the "covert Grima" features. Not the lines, not Sharena's concern, and absolutely not the changing eye color. Honestly, it was a little disappointing to me, because the little details with m!Robin are just so brainrot-worthy, but idk, F!Robin got the better glowup art-wise (seriously, her Respledent is some of my favorite Robin art out there) and when you think about it, it IS extremely funny to imagine the two of them interacting while M!Robin has to keep pretending he's not the one who went back in time and got his ass kicked.

Because I mean... that's sort of the obvious inference, isn't it? That he's Original Timeline Robin who became the fell dragon, followed Lucina back in time, and was killed by Good Timeline Robin. Lol I really wish more fanfic authors would take this alt and run with it, because is that concept not just totally ripe with potential?

speaking of. never imply i don't love my daughter ever again. lucina is fucking fantastic. she really does carry the weight of the world on her shoulders. she's almost a parallel of emmeryn - thrust into a leadership position much too soon, her entire childhood taken from her. all she has are the people with the same traumas as her, not necessarily her friends, just everybody who's still left.

her hiding her identity is so interesting. it's not just to prevent a knock-on effect of her being known before her own birth - she is embodying her own hero, taking his name, playing on their similarities, because she lacks the confidence to believe she should be the one to do this. ironically enough, this insecurity is what makes her more similar to chrom than anything else, both of them chasing the shining afterimage of their predecessors.

fact of the matter is, lucina is horribly underutilized in the plot. half the time you have no clue what she's even doing. why's she in ferox? to, uhh, "Investigate?" maybe?

the most major thing she does is prevent chrom's injury and emmeryn's assassination, yet the game fails to properly capitalize on the butterfly effect this creates. it goes entirely unmentioned that LUCINA did all this. and let's not even speak of valm arc. her showing up to save emmeryn is SO goddamn important to allow for a good ending to happen at all, and once she joins the party, she... tells basilio to not die? and her telling basilio to not die makes him not die and lets him pull out the macguffin out of his ass later?

once she JOINS THE PARTY you'd expect her to make more contributions, to, you know, "change fate", and all that. like, maybe SHE could've been the one to stop robin from stabbing chrom at all, instead of robin having the sudden willpower to "stab him a little less" than the original timeline. maybe she could have her own dramatic confrontation with grima as the symbol of stagnation - show the symbol of her despair and trauma what HAS changed, list out how this timeline differs from the past, and maybe even grima must admit to a sliver of truth in her words, yet pushes for the same ruin anyway out of his own despair.

there is SO MUCH they could've done with lucina! and they did NOTHING! SHE'S the awakening poster child. she was in smash first, she's the emblem, and how important is she to the plot? not very! she's important to the themes, certainly, but in the final act she's outweighed by the visions robin got FROM GRIMA when grima fucked up and amnesia'd them. THAT saved chrom. grima fucking up once. not lucina.

and that's so! frustrating! because i love her!

it's this whole theme of generational trauma, from emmeryn to chrom to lucina, of finally breaking free and doing something new, but...

lucina has the two BEST scenes in the entire game. "Lucina's judgement" is just a fantastic moment (and i'm particularly fond of the mother version). Wherein she is directly confronted with this whole thing: could you kill an innocent to save the world? could you do it to your father's best friend? or to your mother? lucina was so prepared to do ANYTHING to save her father, but now that she's in the past, that she got to reunite with him, that she got to live in comparative peace, she's scared. if she kills robin, chrom will hate her. it will save the world, but her own idyllic life will shatter. only now that she has something to lose does she hesitate.

and yknow, the reunion scene between her and chrom in ch13 is already like, awakening's most well known scene for a REASON. it's so touching. this brave enigmatic warrior crying into her father's arms, finally allowed to be the child she is. chrom faced with all he stands to lose, with the broken reflection of his own infant daughter.

it's poetic. it's fantastic. fact is: the emotional core of awakening is so deeply compelling. generational trauma as a way to mirror predeterminism and the belief in a doomed world. breaking cycles and changing fate, all wrapped up in an incredible subversion of fairy tales: what if the dragon and the knight loved each other? (whether it's platonic or romantic, i dont care at this point) what if the dragon didn't have to die to save the princess?

viewed through the grander lens of these strong, resonant themes, awakening is fucking incredible. but on a moment to moment basis... there is so much squandered potential, so many little holes that didn't need to exist. it feels rushed. underbaked. i know it was FE's last hurrah, but... man. the passion was there. the care wasn't, or it didn't have the time to be.

also anyone who calls themself a chrom fan who DOESNT also deeply adore lucina is a sham and will die by my sword. respect my wonderful daughter or else.

Imagine Harumi trains spiders to play the harp. Imagine Brad as Goob. Imagine all the ninja (and some associates) being the adopted family. Imagine Young!Lloyd being forced to wear hideous contacts in the future so he's not recognized. Imagine Mystake reluctantly being the matriarch. Imagine Young!Lloyd having all sorts of crazy ideas that he likes to master build to improve things but can't quite get to work yet, and then grows up to literally change the world. Imagine Lucina just wanting an excuse to hang out with her otherwise too busy-and-important in the future dad and becoming best friends with his younger self ;w;

Obviously the 'mother gave up Lloyd to Darkley's' thing would still apply but then I wouldn't know how to weave in Misako or Garmadon here without ruining ~the themes~ (though I do have thoughts on how to incorporate Misako in a way that provides the foundation from Brad's quest for revenge as opposed to him just stealing ideas of Lloyd's lmao)

Thinking about it some more, the usage of Apex of the World at the end of Flower is telling. It’s not just knowing that it’s Edelgard’s final boss theme because of it’s usage in Azure Moon, it’s the fact it’s the exact same song.

Thinking back on Awakening, where there’s multiple versions of Id. Id (Serenity) is Robin’s theme, but there’s also Id (Dilemma) which is Grima’s. There’s the version of it that plays over the main menu (Beginnings), a version where Lucina passes Judgement on Robin (Sorrow), and one that plays as the final boss map (Purpose) as well as a version for DLC bosses (Hope). It’s still the same basic piece of music, but is handled in different ways to related parts of Robin’s, the Player’s, story.

But there’s only one version of Apex of the World, shared between Edelgard’s final battle against Rhea and those who oppose her and the Edelgard who turns herself into a monster to try and defeat Dimitri. The thing is, the Hegemon form is meant to be symbolic, not just of what TWSITD have turned Edelgard into but also representative of the path Edelgard is on. In Flower Dimitri calls out Edelgard’s path as the animal path, identifying it as one of the evil paths in Buddhism that stands in contrast to the path of Nirvana/Enlightenment. Dimitri, upon seeing the Hegemon, says that her form is what lies at the end of the ideals Edelgard has served, ideals that are spelled out previously in Moon and while Edelgard’s power of friendship speech in Flower would make it appear she no longer believes in those ideals the fact her endings in Japan reveal that she still pushes through reforms that are supposed to make people self-reliant shows that she still believes in those ideals.

The usage of Apex of the World show that Edelgard’s ideals don’t change, that she’s still the same person she was at the beginning owing to the fact her ending title is Flame Emperor. She’s still the same as her Hegemon incarnation, fighting for the same future that form represents. As Dimitri puts it in the Japanese, that form is the future that Edelgard wants (note: Him saying she doesn’t deserve compassion is the localization at work again). Moon is saying that what Edelgard wants is bad, and through Apex of the World it’s indicating that players are fighting to bring about a bad future in Flower.

Apex of the World is telling players they’re fighting for the Hegemon Husk, even giving them the title of Wings of the Hegemon, in addition to the Flame Emperor.That the player is fighting for a world where people are willing to become monsters in their pursuit of power. Her Japanese S support reveals that Edelgard has already walked the path of hadou in order to centralize Fodlan’s power on herself, that in her pursuit of power she has been an immoral ruler, while her Hegemon Form sees her literally become a beast unit (the Animal Path anyone?), a monster, for strength.

Apex of the World is symbolic of Edelgard’s lust for power, and the lengths she’s willing to go to in order to acquire it.

This also ties into the whole Mandate of Heaven symbolism, as the scene after the player joins Edelgard against Rhea is called Path of Thorns. It’s indicating that the player isn’t doing what they’re supposed to, that they’re not being moral. The Mandate stuff says that they’re going against the Will of Heaven, which we can actually take as a meta bit saying that the player is going against the morality that the game’s real gods, it’s CREATORS, support.The creators have stated that Edelgard was given the role of villain in the story, that she’s the one the player is meant to oppose. That her path leads to hadou, which in terms of the Mandate means that she needs to be removed from power. But by joining her, the player isn’t doing their duty, that’s the path of thorns they’ve chosen.
