This is a Luciana appreciation post. 

She has gone through so much and the writers literally treat her like a side character. In season 5a she was actully pretty main which was nice but they completely ignored her is season 5b and so far we haven’t seen her at all in season 6. The way she just sacrificed herself at the end of 5b also sort of felt like they were doing that to take her out of the plotline and thats very upsetting 

She adds so much as a character and balances everyone out with her bravery and willingness to help but also realism and belief in others capabilities. She as a character is easy to watch and symapthise with and balances out the strong characters of Alicia and Morgan. 

Look at this cutie 

All I’m saying is she is literally one of my favourite characters and I would like to see more of her.

We all know Alicia has trauma. I mean in season 5b she couldn’t even kill the walkers just incase she turns into ‘that person’ again. But what is never talked about is Al’s subtle trauma.

Alicia’s trauma is all over the place, splashed all over the screen for us to watch. Witnessing her mother and brother die, leaving the only place she had ever felt at home after the apocalypse started. Seeing people die, unable to save them, crashing in the, middle of nowhere, kids refusing her help, sacrificing herself to save them ect. You can clearly see what happened and how it affects her but Al’s is much more subtle. From when we meet her she seems cool, collected and badass, just in it to get and film the story. But as the seasons go on and especially in season 5, things happen that affect her subtly on screen.

The plane crash. This is a pivotal change in Al’s character. She now feels personally responsible for a major point in this ‘story’ and feels like she is actually participating rather than just filming. This really shakes her, and for a moment she feel like she has killed her friends. She uses the black clad helmeted walker as a distraction, chasing after the story instead of confronting her feelings. Harassing Isabel about letting her take the helicopter to save her friends, fix her mistakes.

 When she gets back and needs to rebuild the plane she throws herself into it, trying to make up for her mistakes. When she realises they expect her to fly the plane back she is very nervous, all of the trauma from literally crashing the plane but she does it anyway, not wanting to burden others. 

Look at her as its taking off! Everyone is cheering but she is sweating and shaking, pretty close to a panic attack. Understandably because last time she was in this cockpit the plane crashed and she almost died. She almost killed her friends, the people she cares about.

Now if we go into season 5b she is trying to find Isabel, especially when she hears what Tom says about this place ‘prepping for tomorrow’. She also wants to prove herself. The truth is very very important to her (hello here is the trauma about her brothers death popping up) and the fact that Virginia might hurt and kill people based on an idea that she got off of Al is defiantly worrying her. So she gets more cameras, film everything, keep people safe. But of course Tom dies while trying to get the story and Al feels guilty over his death. Even though it wasn’t her fault she still feels responsible, she watches those tapes over and over, for no reason except to punish herself. I think this is part of the reason she feels so horribly about the Gulf being a dead end. She was hoping to at least let him live on, make his life that she feel like she took, worth something.

In conclusion my baby needs a break, and some love.
