Hi, i was wondering for a while now, what was that deal between carlos and lucious? What did carlos want that getting a deal with demon sounded like a good idea?
Carlos is a surgeon, except he puts waay too much pressure on himself for his own good. The moment he fails he sees himself as the ultimate failure (he has massive impostor syndrome). And he does fail one time, which costs him a life, which results in him spiraling into depression and self-doubt. Shortly afterward he finds a post on a forum about a wish-granting ritual, he's mentally in the worst place possible so he tries it. He wishes to not fail again, except the ritual summons a demon (luci) who is willing to grant the wish in exchange for his soul. Carlos agrees because what other option did he have? (he had a lot but he's not the sharpest tool in the shed)
So now he's stuck with Luci who periodically comes around to annoy him (he's very irritating) and slowly Carlos just stops being afraid of him.
#Carlos has no reason to doubt himself but hes a mess and i love him for it#meanwhile luci barely meets people with wishes that arent selfish#in a way carlos wishes to always succeed in his surgeries which in a way isnt selfish#luci's whole thing is to test people and their morality because hes annoying like that and also because he has a long standing argument#with his twin sister rae#like he tempts people into sin only so he can go 'i told you so' to his sister and his other siblings#usually#it works because people who are willing to make a deal with him are usually already questionable#but Carlos is a good person so he is trying to test the limits but also hes curious as to why carlos isnt playing his games#slowly luci starts getting very fond of carlos because hes just a silly guy just a funky little human and slowly carlos starts tolerating l#luci#and before they know it theyre sort of friends? and slowly they become more?#and in the end rae wins the argument#rae and luci arent hostile as luci is with his other siblings. they live in the same apartment and are truly irritating together#their argument is jsut the age old 'humans suck' 'lol they dont'#answered#not me having written more in the tags than in the answer itself. lol#fun fact luci and rae were once one whole being that decided itd be funny to split up into two seperate beings and thus theyre identical tw#it does take a while for luci to show his human form to carlos. since he has a human identity and a human job as well and doesnt want#ppl to know the truth#( he has a job thanks to rae#shes the biggest source of irritation in his life and he loves her a lot )#literally if you ask me anythign about my ocs youll get a whole essay on them im sorry i love my funky lil dudes#also luci is barely doing anything for this deal since 1. carlos is good at his job 2. death isnt his area of authority so the only thi#the only thing he does is ask his sister very nicely and treat her to food or drinks

Alright! Finally got time again to shoot you some questions for the ask meme. For Lucy: A1, 2, 9, 14, 24. B1, 13, 16. C3, 4, 6. D2, 3. E2, 4. F2, 5, 10. G2. H1, 6, 8. I1. L2, 4, 9. Also for Harrison, finally someone who can use the K questions... K1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10?
Hell yeah long post coming and i’m so happy with the K section,
Lucy:
A1. What of the Meyers-Briggs personality types they most fit into? INFP, ENFT, et cetera…
I actually took a test thinking how she would answer and i think i got it perfectly right. I wouldn’t pick it better just by reading all of them i think. She came out as Turbulent Entrepreneur (ESTP-T) which feels ok. “ Rules were made to be broken” - hell they were. Also “ If Entrepreneurs aren’t careful though, they may get too caught in the moment, take things too far, and run roughshod over more sensitive people, or forget to take care of their own health and safety.“
Judging by her action and the way of living she is like that. Going all the way, having hard time just by staying idle and ohh yee taking things too far without thinking of consequences. Like chasing an enemy and realizing she left her support far in the back and then dealing with difficulties by herself. Constantly going careless in combat, forgetting her own safety, thinking she will make it anyway but it comes back biting her in the ass.
Also she is not smart but she can see minor hidden things, be it while cracking some password on terminal or spotting who in the crowd wants to stab her in the back just by the change of their face expression so she might be stupid but still outsmart some folks and mechanics out there and that fits with the nature of the job she had before the war.
A2. What alignment are they? Chaotic neutral, lawful evil, et cetera…
I never played DnD games and so on so this one is hard but Neutral Evil - she is aware of her being on the bad side of a coin and is willing to do whatever it takes to make her wishes come true even if it means killing someone but she still have some self restrains and won’t go against the allies she is currently working with and friends she made on the way and of course innocent creatures. She has some base etiquette rules and isn't rotten to the bone but when she wants something nothing will stop her no matter the cost as long as it doesn’t strike her out of the game of harms current company. She is bad but not for sake of doing evil shit or proving something but just to do what she wants and get what she wants even if blood will spill.
A9. Does your OC make a lot of excuses? For themselves? Others?
She will sure make a lot of excuses for herself after fucking shit up or going way too ahead in combat. But only for herself. She is the type of pointing finger at others while tugging and biting her tongue just not to admit she wronged someone or something and avoid too many questions or yelling at.
A14. Is your character empathetic?
Despite being a bitch she is empathetic. But might show it a bit differently...like in a page i wrote for Halloween with that bunny mask. She didn’t chop that man only because he grabbed her ass but because he was using many other women poor financial situation just to have some easy sexy time and she did feel bad for them so...her empathy stroke in a solution of killing him instead of only knocking him out and caging. If someone would harass Lizzie or...i dunno Hector, someone she considers slightly weaker at standing up for themselves and is in her “social” circle or society part then she will show empathy by stabbing those who bother them with a fork in a eye, a bit extreme but that’s how she understands empathy. Someone is chaining and kicking a dog at settlement? She will chain that man onto the bridge and let him hang and die slowly and take a dog in Pack care. Gage complains that his gun got broken in a fight and can sense some sadness, she will run for a stealing caps heist to buy new one. So...she feels empathy but her answer to it can be...well unusual, brutal and extreme.
A24. What are some of your OC’s biggest personal obstacles? This could be emotional, physical, social… Are they aware of it? Are they trying to overcome it?
Type of question i hope i understood correctly :))
Fear of failing to deliver is her biggest personal obstacle. She was always scared, since childhood to fail at meeting certain expectations, be in it school for her mother who would change her mind bazillion times due to mental illness, then Harrison and fear of his eventual punishment mixed with mental abuse if she doesn’t carry her mission to the end, with Ian it was fear of failing at being the good loving partner due to her secrets and then comes whole town of raiders with Gage on top who have expectations of her and promise of certain small paradise if she delivers but...these fears always pushes her into actions more than she has to and it exhaust her mentally and can sometimes prove deadly, ending up in injuries that could have been avoided. She is aware of this but because it carried through her whole life its unavoidable.
Also she doesn’t interact much with a friendly society groups because even if she knows she is bad its not something she actually likes to hear. Coming to a small town just with intentions to have a drink and imagining that people will only show her a pistol barrel and tell her to fuck off because she is from within raider circle fills her with doubt so strong she just tends to avoid this kind of meetings.
How was the saying: “Don't tell a psychopath they're a psychopath, it upsets them” and she will get deeply upset.
B1. Do they believe you have to give respect to get it, or get respect to give it?
Get respect to give it. She doesn’t trust that people will respect her back if she puts effort so she won’t show respect even to great president of whatever wastes because she also doesn’t care if someone respect her but if they pull a hand out first she will shake it back. Her life is too risky and careless to think about gaining someone’s respect first.
B13. Do they have a large or small group of friends?
If she would consider all nuka town her friends then its big but...nope, small group. Its mostly Gage (even if they are partners they can be friends too), Lizzie, William, well...Mags too and along with that Mason later on once she gets his loyality and a few traders from which she keep connections with Maddox, Chip and Shelbie. From Far Harbor for sure Allan would be easy to gain as a friend. Longfellow is just a friend grandad <3. Harrison cannot be questioned, too scary to reject him. From Commonwealth i can’t yet get idea where she could get the best friend circle. Well aside from that whatever other oc’s out there who accept her bitchiness and way of being :)) but i don’t think she would make many friends out there, she is...well plain simple and dangerous.
B16. Does your OC like to be the center of attention or more in the mix?
Definitely in the center of attention, since she couldn’t be back then. Now that crime and killing is fully legal and there is no police chase other than some disgusted by her behavior minutemen she can be a in the center of a show and she likes it. A circus ring leader, hell yeah...well raiders can be clowns too from time to time. And let’s not start with parties and free time. She’s the first to get up on table to dance. It gets her a bit to realize things she can get away with but once she does she only misses there is no spotlight at the end of the fight, shining on her.
C3. Is it important for them to be with people (socially, intimately, whatever) whose major ideological tenets align with their own?
Major indeloghit....tents what? Good lord, i swear i’m too stupid for these kind of words but good i keep the dictionary close to me, right in the next tab.
Big yes. It’s not many people like her out there and she doesn’t want to flip her coin back to being good and peaceful towards rules of the world, she simply isn’t able to mentally change back anymore so in order to keep feeling like she still has a hole to belong to she needs to spend time with people like her to also boost her confidence that she isn’t the only one with broken mind out there seeking completion of her wishes through darker path. And knowing so isn’t leaving her in fear she will need to change her ways of life.
C4. Do they consider themselves superior or more important than anyone else? Lesser?
No. Even is she is the Overboss she rather rejects that title and prefers to be just a business partner with Gage. She doesn’t seek and need to feel important or superior, she only wants to feel useful around people she decided to blend in with and have a purpose, nothing else. The fact that she can strike orders around doesn’t fill her heart nor mind with some higher importance or value above other. Also she doesn’t considers her enemies lesser even knowing her skills, its just bad approach that can easily get one killed and she prefers stays on a same line with others. Be it friends or foes.
C6. What do they do when they see someone asking for money or food? If they ignore them, why? If they help, how so?
Depends in what state that person is, she was the liar herself so she can spot one if its an actual person in need or just lazy poor soul. She will usually tho just toss a few caps and walk away without listening or hearing more from that person. She doesn’t want to struggle with a morality remaining deep in her brain if she did right or not so she will just deal with it fast and walk away, telling them to fuck off if they will follow her. These kind of people are like those annoying reminders in a shape of beggar poking her and making think if she still has some pure humanity left so...she wants to be just done with that part. But animal coming up to her is a different deal, here humanity will always strike unless its a seagull stealing her meal, then her humanity part will shrink and there will be a rock thrown in the air after that birb, as a survival contest.
D2. Do they believe in an afterlife?
She never gave it a longer thought. She cares about here and now but if she would meet someone knowledgeable in that topic she would be willing to open her ears for few minutes longer and put the knife down. She doesn’t rejects religious topics as long as someone is not brushing a saint books or whatever right in her face. She has an open mind on more than just a mortal topics mostly because of Harrison.
D3. How comfortable are they with the idea of death?
She wasn’t scared of death before the bombs and when wandering through wasteland because she just didn’t care for her life and maybe that’s what made her most effective but this changed once she realized she can finally live a life she secretly wanted but was restricted before. Her strong desire of finally rejecting the dying part is what caused certain being to finally break away from her ;> well i wrote about it in last page so yassss
E2. Which of the nine types of intelligence is your OC strongest in? Weakest? (Linguistic, existential, naturalist, et cetera)
The strongest is surely the Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence, she was trained to the bone and with her careless nature she is mostly depended on her physical skills and putting them into perfect timing. Even if she got a bit rusty after bombs the return of Harrison will bring her back into the right gears of phasing like speed and combat thinking.
Weakest could be probably the Intra-personal Intelligence mostly because even if she understand her actions she isn’t very good at analyzing it any deeper other than “i want that man’s money cus i want that”, i guess....i could describe it like that. I cant really get any deeper or more detailed into this because there is for sure one thing i share with Lucy....we are simple minded simpletons but..i might be a bigger one :)))
E4. Did they enjoy school if they went to it?
At the beginning she didn’t enjoy any school as other students would consider her a weirdo because of her mother which would sometimes show up, uncalled at school and act really weird but later when she decided to stand up for herself after meeting Harrison as a kid ....others in school didn’t enjoy that change as much as she became seen as a pretty bully girl being overly extreme into serving “justice”. The only classes she enjoyed tho were gym and biology ones as she wasn’t scared to cut a frog but others seeing her just chopping it like a piece of ham could...weighted on her reputation. Also she always joined like a sport/cheerleader groups to have less problems with teachers as it was bringing school good reputation and she was fairly flexible and with high stamina so it was also easy for her. So from being bullied she became popular bully girl of sort. She got hooked on law later on because she wanted indeed to serve some justice, in a peaceful manner at start. So all in all she didn’t enjoy school at start but then she didn’t mind it as she took business in her hands, a bit over the edge but well...bully with some feelings eh? I don’t have many details as to what exact type of school she would go but another reason she would enjoy sitting at school once she became the one in charge is to spend less time at home with her confusing mother so she would be staying late for some extra gym trainings, sweating her emotions off.
F2. What’s their ideal home look like? Where is it?
In Porter’s rough, dirty yet soft heart stuffed in his sweaty smelly top.
She can call Fizztop an ideal home of sort. The weather in Nuka World strikes her preferences and even since she was strolling with Harrison from time to time there before the war she just loved that place and beside the first deadly visit there they made a good memories there, father and daughter like. She prefers her home to be placed inside the town as she hates sleeping in open spaces even if its a single house on top of a hill. She just feels too lonely and insecure. It’s weird to say that but she feels safer to sleep in a town filled with raiders than alone in the wild.
F5. How handy are they? Can they fix appliances, cars, cabinets, et cetera?
Fairly handy but on a level of fixing a broken car mirror with a duck tape or just gluing shit together hoping it will hold long enough before it breaks again. If she would fix a door handle it would most probably end up upside down on the other side of the door. And if shit breaks again...she will just shrug and glue it same way again or at least add one more layer of duck tape. Sometimes she will try to convince herself she knows what wire to put where when it comes to electric appliances but she only knows cars and car still ain’t a toaster so....electric shortage and fizzy hair incoming. She needed a manual on shoving a cable inside a robot so yeah. But when it comes to fixing clothes she is as good as with cars. Even if some parts can be similar like in car engine of sort she still has hard time to connect the dots if seeing something like half similar. So give her a broken car/truck/any clothing she will swing a wrench or needle and fix that shit in no time but hand her a tv pilot or spoken toaster and she will just look at it and ponder..deeply.
F10. Do they engage in any of the arts? How good do you intend them to be? Would they agree they are?
Arts...with her only painting comes to my mind but not like painting a landscape but more things like a car painting, pack faces and more abstract stuff which she learned again in Sapphire club with Rosey due to many events that were having certain themes so they needed to do body paints and so on.
I don’t know if dancing is any kind of art but i can imagine her discovering that pole dance but on a level of these sport like competitions. Lucy is flexible and has enough strength to try to perform this kind of stuff since from already school times she was doing a lot of gym and sport in general.
As to how good she would be at these probably not like perfectly good to very details because even she doesn’t have need to be horribly good. Needs to be good enough to just make her happy and she doesn’t have high standards in these topics. I dunno why i found that question slightly tricky....
G2. Who makes up your OC’s family, at least the more important members to them?
The only family she had was her mother since her father left once he could no longer bear with her mental issues and bringing stranger men to house and then getting pregnant with her. I didn’t build up yet like a bigger family tree but..yeah it was just her mother and her most of the time.
H1. What is your OC’s orientation, romantic and/or sexual? Has it ever been a source of stress for them? Have they always been pretty sure of their orientation?
She is 100% heterosexual when it comes to her orientation both romantic and sexual. She can flirt with same sex but that would only include situations when she needs to finish her job or reach some other goal, no feelings involved whatsoever.
H6. Has your OC ever cheated on anyone or been cheated on?
She didn’t catch Ian neither Gage to cheat on her. She tends to flirt with other men like William but wouldn’t take it as far as to sleep with him or do it on purpose to hurt her partner feelings so...she doesn’t cheat. She still has SOME backbone.
H8. What’s your OC’s idea of a perfect date?
She doesn’t have high needs when it comes to perfect date topic. As long as it involves alone time together without additional crowd and some beer she doesn’t care if they sit in a fancy bar or on some building stairs. Perfect date is any that includes relaxed talk, joking, alcohol and a happy ending in bed together. Extra points for bringing her nicely cut flower. Despite being bully, killer and involved with raiders she was looking at late evenings at these white/grey romantic movies where couples were just doing simple things, walking late night together and so on, so her perfect date ain’t complicated.
I1. What are their favorite kinds of flavors– Sweet, salty, sour, spicy, creamy, et cetera?
As long as its not slimey and gooey like she’s okay. If something of mentioned above would slip into her food she will just puke it out instantly. She prefers salty and sweet tho as her pre-war diet was mostly like so. Salted hard boiled eggs with grilled tatos topped with pinch of salt again and then 200 years old cotton candy for dessert or potato crisps. She eats meat too but like fried till its crunchy.
L2. What do you consider the biggest themes in your character, if any?
Brain error so i hope i understood this right:
Leaning into the evil side of the society fully confident it’s the only and last right choice to achieve true happiness and satisfy the already croocked mind.
L4. Would you hang out with your OC if you could?
In my real life probably yes but even i would be slightly nervous around her because she tends to bend towards very extreme solutions if some problems would arise or someone would make me angry (due to her empathy) but in fallout universe hell yeah, i’m just not sure i would be in a physical capability to keep up with her but i wouldn’t mind to get a legendary cane..along with it...But yeah, i would like to hang out for a beer and see her beat some stupid folks and maybe give a her a friendly hug to remind her she isn’t that bad and she will be fine....and apologize for burning her hands lol. If she would find out i’m her creator..oh boy, i’m sure she would beat me with my own cane over the head.
L9. How did you come up with your OC?
I had different OC design before but she was actually just a general good joking hero, she even had a brother but that got lost later on and that male oc was left just for MMO’s as an additional character. Then a lot of things happened in my life and because i was gaming since early childhood like Norton times and..the pixelated Blizzard Blackthorne it also affected my rpg and game choices in general, like whole way of thinking since gaming was and is big part of my life. I was curious what would happen if i take my oc through the mental change grinder and push it to the edge, towards losing the patience for justice systems and add a pinch of evil mixed with some trauma to give her some reason to choose that path. And there she is. Her face features didn’t change much, neither body type and so on but her mentality is hell of a different and i just...love her. She isn’t perfect, neither that horribly bad but i’m very pleased with how she came out. I threw a glove and was done with playing hero at some point because of life experiences and she came out of my cauldron as a best way to peacefully calm down. As for Harrison he was suppose to be just a small mention in pre-war diary but for some reason my brain pushed it forward and i really don’t mind him as an extra OC. Besides Lucy needs someone to watch over her.
Allllrighty, Harrison time:
K1. Does your OC have to keep their paranormal aspect (PA) a secret from general society? If so, how? I.e., they can’t discuss their abilities, they have to hide a tail, they have an alter-ego, et cetera. What would happen if society found out about it?
Yes, he has to hide his powers. He is one of a kind and experiment never got finished so his powers are something no one seen before. I’m sure that lab is still buried somewhere near Sanctuary deep in forests containing old data and so on but the place got abandoned and no one found it yet. I can imagine tho that the cryo vault could have been like a last remaining section cut off from the rest as it also was touching a subject of immortality...i mean..a way of not aging. Usually the green smoke will always rise from his body and eyes at times so he prefers to hide his face under the hat and keep fully covered body with that long brown coat and thick gloves. Also he doesn’t look very friendly so it helps him keep folks at distance before they notice something unusual. I can’t imagine how people would react if they knew about his powers but they for sure would be just wary and scared i think. And all in all he has a synth skeleton so more hate from most of the Commonwealth population. He also needs to keep his emotions at check as his powers are driven by a strong sense of desire so if he would really really want to harm someone he would have harder time at controlling his powers before they snap. That’s why he is always so...stoic and calm.
K3. Does your OC have any friends who know about their PA? Any enemies?
Lucy suspected before and she has a memory from childhood, then she finds out herself on a go and Gage also knows because he was present during the event. Later on she tells Lizzie and Chip Morse because she needs help to repair his synth broken body due to how the...separation came out. Harrison doesn’t tell anyone else unless its necessary. The only enemy out there would be the lead scientist if he somehow survived the bombs and is still out there, looking for him.
Also...i didn’t mean to make it like that but its just how it came out due to most...common and fast thought design. That lead scientist had grey hair and wore a black mask on half of his face....and that would make the air even more rotten between...someone particular out there :))
K5. Does your OC feel isolated or unrelatable due to the experience their PA brings with it? If so, how do they deal with it?
He does feel lonely since he is too afraid to meet new people or even spend too much time in a bar. He would mostly stick to lone table in a corner, being too afraid on not controlling his powers if his mind and emotions lose breaks. He was a family man, not perfect father but still, getting that taken away and changing your life 180 degrees can sometimes upset him and the only way to cool down is just to stick to people he can trust which is Lucy and her gang. Its his only family now. He doesn’t push away the idea of trying again, meeting a woman, making a family, being a better father but is just too scared of that. Also he doesn’t need much sleep as normal person so...this doesn’t help him either.
K6. Does their PA cause issues in daily life? I.e., if they’re inhuman in a human universe and they can’t go to a doctor or risk the doctor realizing they are not human, super abilities with physical drawbacks, they don’t have control of their abilities and must keep to themselves, et cetera… If so, how do they feel about it?
It causes him a lot of issues. Despite hot weather he still needs to keep his clothes on to not reveal the power radiating from him. His hat always in crowds, even inside the buildings to not risk shining with his eyes too much. Shades can help tho at times. But people might find it weird, accuse him of being another synth and attack him and that would cause more problems because if he snaps people will see his powers. He needs to keep his head low all the time and just act as a shady dangerous mercenary, out of unnecessary questions and troubles.
K7.Does your OC’s PA affect their dietary habits so that they are unusual or problematic by their society’s standards?
Even if he actually doesn’t need to eat he still will because he isn’t fully synth but just himself in a form of soul trapped in such a body. His eating habits are still the same as they were but..he might overdo his craving at times...eating like a kilograms of food just because he remembered it was his favorite and he wants it now and he will feel the taste and satisfaction but because his stomach isn’t human he doesn’t feel when he is full so....yeah. Eating whole cart of cotton candy at one go. It might feel weird to people who don’t know him but he is a big man so they might assume it’s maybe because of his size...and just being freaking hungry.
K8. What are some routines, if any, of self-care that your OC must engage in that are not typical of their society? I.e., having to file their teeth, maintaining magical rituals, drinking blood…
He needs to meditate like a lot to keep his powers better contained and controlled since they sync with his mindset.. Sometimes he will do it for hours, be it standing, siting, he will just disconnect and meditate.
K9. Does your OC have knowledge that they can’t share with the rest of their world that could improve it if it didn’t cause chaos? I.e., a character from the future knowing about technology not yet invented, but they can’t reveal themselves by sharing it
He is the only one knowing the location of the lab but he keeps that knowledge only to Lucy. He can’t imagine what could happen if they would create armies of....entities like him. Being able to inject soul from body to body could solve a lot of health like issues and give a hell of disabled people new chance but you can never know what direction this could go.
K10. Would your OC give up their PA if they could? Why or why not?
Even if it ruined his life he wouldn’t give it up. He lost his family not because of who she became but because he was fucking irresponsible by taking his son to work and killing them both. His wife was furious and refused to take him home again even if she was freshly pregnant that time. His powers allowed him to protect her anyway without her knowledge and because he is at age he is, these powers still keep him as a extremely dangerous man able to fight. Even if giving it up could give him a better chance of starting a family again he prefers to be able to protect these that are still left in his life than failing or die trying. So he is over the grief and learned to live with how he is, accepting his powers and putting them to good use.

Familia
Summary: In which Maggie is a combination of me and my mother and gets to do all the things that we didn’t.
Thanks to @avidreaderffn for checking my Spanish bc I’m rusty, @bathtimefunduck for talking some sense into me, and @syllabicacronyms and @georgiew2304 for doing an initial read.
AO3
The call came on a Monday. Maggie was at work, arms deep in paperwork and open cases when her phone went off.
“Detective Sawyer,” she said, pen still scratching away on her latest evidence report.
“Margarita?”
Maggie blinked. “Tía?” She and her aunt called each other on the regular, but never while Maggie was at work. “What’s wrong?”
“It’s your mother.” There was a heavy sigh on the other end that made her stomach drop. “She’s asking for you.”
“For me? Why?” Maggie hadn’t spoken to her mother in years. Not since...not since that ill-fated Valentine’s day that ended with Oscar Rodas kicking his only daughter out of the house. Her mother had said nothing, done nothing, as her husband shouted at their daughter to pack a single suitcase and get out.
“She’s not doing well.”
Maggie got up. She ignored the curious look her partner shot her way and made her way to the precinct locker room.
“What do you mean she’s not doing well?” she demanded.
“She’s in stage IV kidney failure, Maggie. The doctors are doing transfusions—”
“Why not dialysis?
“Mija.” Her aunt’s voice was gentle, like it had been the night she picked Maggie up off the side of the road all those years ago. “They can’t. In her condition, it’s just not feasible anymore. She needs you here now.”
“I…” A part of her wanted to say no. Why should she go and be there for her mother when her mother hadn’t been there for her?
“Maggie.”
Maggie sighed. “Tía, can I call you back? I just, I need a bit.” She needed a bit and more.
“Okay. Just, let me know soon, all right, mija?”
“Of course.”
Maggie hung up before her aunt could say anything else. She put her head in her hands. The universe had a sick sense of humour, she decided. She had waited for years to get a call regarding her mother and now she had. Only it wasn’t the kind of call she wanted.
She pulled up her texts.
Hypo lifespan S4 kidney fail w/o dialysis/transplant, she texted Alex.
She watched the little grey bubble pop up. Then, V short. Days most likely. Why?
Adrian asked, she lied. School project or something.
Her phone buzzed to reveal a thumbs up emoji pop up on screen. It made her lips twitch into a small smile. Her wife was such a dork sometimes.
She set her phone aside and closed her eyes.
Fact: her mother had done nothing to stop her father from kicking her out of the house all those years ago.
Fact: her mother was now dying and needed her there. Now.
Maggie could say no. She could refuse to go back and instead resolve herself to staying in National City while her mother died alone by claiming to have the moral high ground. No one would blame her. No one but Maggie herself. At the end of the day, she knew that there was no moral high ground for something like this and saying no certainly wouldn’t place her on one. Saying no wouldn’t make a statement, it would just make her the daughter who refused her dying mother’s last request. And that just wasn’t who she was.
Maggie’s phone buzzed. She glanced down to see a text from Lucy.
Your aunt called me.
Maggie wanted to be annoyed by that piece of information. But she knew her aunt was only trying to help.
I can get us all a flight for the first thing in the morning, if that’s ok w/ you.
Trust Lucy to be on top of everything when no one else was.
Please, Maggie typed back.
Days. Her mother had days. She had to get there sooner rather than later. She just had to.
-
By the time Maggie got home, she felt like she had gone ten rounds with Mike Tyson. Everything in her body was starting to ache and her head was pounding. She didn’t know if was from stress, the grief that was slowly starting to seep through, or some combination of both.
She found herself pulled into a hug almost as soon as the door shut behind her. She stiffened for half a second before melting into Lucy’s embrace. She pressed her face to Lucy’s shoulder and took a deep breath, savouring the hints of cinnamon, jasmine and rose that made up Lucy’s perfume. It was a welcome distraction from the throbbing migraine building just behind her eye.
After a few moments of just enjoying Lucy’s presence, Maggie pulled away. She looked around the apartment.
“Where’s Alex?” She asked.
“Grabbing dinner from that place on 32nd.” Lucy looked her over. “Are you okay?”
Yes. No. Maybe. Maggie didn't know.
She shrugged. “I guess. It just...I wasn’t expecting this.” She sighed. “I feel kinda guilty, to be honest.”
Lucy frowned. “Guilty? For what?”
Maggie shrugged again. “For…” She trailed off. “For feeling sad, for grieving. I don’t really have that right, you know?”
“Don’t have a…Mags, no, you absolutely have a right to feel the way that do right now,” Lucy said.
“I haven’t spoken to my mom in almost 20 years, Luce,” Maggie said. “We weren’t, aren’t, close.”
They had stopped being close the moment she walked through the door to find her father ranting about how he wouldn’t have a child living in sin under his roof.
Lucy brushed a thumb against Maggie’s cheek. The touch was gentle, but Maggie was still so overwhelmed by everything that it made her flinch ever so slightly.
“She was still your family, Maggie. Just because you and her haven’t spoken doesn’t mean that she stopped being your mom.”
Maggie bit her lip.
Lucy sighed. “People arguing over who had the ‘right’ to mourn my mom tore my family apart for years,” she said. “You’re allowed to grieve over what was and what could have been.”
“There’s no use in wondering about what might’ve been Lucy,” Maggie tried, only to fall silent at the look Lucy gave her.
“For something like this, there is.”
Before Maggie could say anything to that, the door opened behind them. Both of them turned to see Alex stumbling through the doorway with multiple bags of takeaway in hand. Those bags were carefully placed on the ground as soon as she caught sight of her lovers.
Maggie let Alex pull her into a hug. She pressed her face against Alex’s shoulder and closed her eyes.
“I don’t…” Know what to do. How to react. How I’m supposed to feel.
She felt Alex press her lips against her air just as Lucy came up from behind to join in the hug.
“We’re right here,” she heard Alex murmur into her hair. “We’ve got you.”
Maggie clenched Alex’s top. She couldn’t stop the sob that rose to her throat. She pressed her face even harder against Alex’s shoulder and started to cry.
The bags of takeaway were forgotten as the Alex and Lucy worked to comfort Maggie.
-
Maggie couldn’t stop her leg from bouncing during the drive to the hospital. The three hour flight to Omaha had done little to lessen her nerves.
There was a yelp from up front as Alex cut off another driver and floored it.
And Alex driving was certainly doing little to help that either.
“Yeah, yeah, fuck you too buddy!” Alex groused, flipping the bird at the horn blaring behind them.
“God, this is almost worse than Kandahar,” Maggie heard Lucy mutter up front. She didn’t miss the death grip Lucy had on the overhead handle.
“Your wife is certainly a...spirited driver,” her aunt said quietly.
For the first time in days, Maggie’s lips twitched into something resembling a smile. “There’s a reason Lucy turned so white when Alex offered to drive, tía.”
“I just thought that was a gringa thing.”
Maggie rolled her eyes. “Lucy’s only half gringa, tía.”
“Still a gringa.”
“Tía.”
“I’m joking mija,” her aunt said. Her grip tightened suddenly as Alex sped the car up even further. “Does your wife realise that it’s a two hour drive from the airport to Blue Springs?”
Maggie caught Alex’s glance through the rearview mirror. She smiled. She knew what Alex was trying to do.
“Something tells me that she knows, but she doesn’t really care what the GPS says.”
-
Alex pulled into a parking spot with a neatness that clashed with the recklessness of the overall drive itself.
“We’re here!” She announced.
There was a brief moment of stunned silence that was broken by Lucy throwing the car door open. Maggie winced at the sound of their girlfriend retching her guts out. She shook her head and followed Lucy out of the car, leaving her aunt alone with Alex.
She found Lucy behind the car with a hand braced against the trunk. She rubbed Lucy’s back as she coughed.
“When we get back to National City,” Lucy wheezed. “Remind me to look up whoever did Alex’s driving test and sue them for daring to give her a license.”
Maggie chuckled and kissed the side of her head. “Yes, dear.”
“Hey, my driving’s not that bad,” Alex said, coming up behind the both of them. “I got us here, didn’t I?”
Maggie and Lucy exchanged looks. Alex’s driving had gotten them to the hospital and under two hours to boot, but Maggie wasn’t too keen on repeating the whole experience. From Lucy’s grimace, Maggie was willing to bet that Lucy shared her sentiments.
“I’m driving back,” was all Lucy said in a tone that refused to be argued against.
Alex huffed.
Maggie turned to her attention away from her lovers to eye the hospital. It had always been an imposing building in her youth. Now, knowing what she would likely face inside, it was even more so.
Lucy’s hand slipped into hers. Alex’s joined it in the opposite hand a moment later.
“We’re right here, Mags.”
Maggie let out a shaky breath. “Right.”
She held both Alex and Lucy’s hands in a deathgrip as the three of them plus her aunt made their way inside.
-
The woman in the bed was so different from the woman in her memories. Maggie remembered a woman with perfectly coiffed hair, a regal air, a bit of Mexican snark peppering words every so often.
The woman in the bed had none of that. She was a mess of tubes and wires. The oxygen mask on her face fogged with shallow breaths. It made Maggie want to cry. She settled for swallowing back the lump in her throat instead.
“We’ll leave you alone for a bit,” Alex whispered.
Maggie panicked. “You’re leaving?!”
“Shh…” Alex soothed. “I’m staying, I’ll just be out here in the hall.”
“And Lucy?” Maggie looked to their girlfriend.
“I’m headed to the funeral home,” Lucy said.
“Luce--”
Lucy shook her head. “You need to focus on your mom right now, Maggie,” she said. “If I go and start the arrangements now, it’s one less thing for you to worry about.”
It took Maggie a moment to realise that they were playing to their strengths. Lucy’s legal and administrative knowledge were useless in a medical setting while Alex’s medical background could do nothing for her when attempting to make funeral arrangements.
“Yeah, you’re right.” Trust Lucy to be the logical one when her lovers felt like the world was crashing down around them.
Lucy kissed her cheek. “I’ll be back in a bit.”
She walked off with Maggie’s aunt in tow, leaving Maggie and Alex standing alone in the hallway.
Maggie took a deep breath. “Is she gonna know I’m in the room with her?” she asked quietly.
Alex nodded. “Yeah. I checked her chart, she’s still aware and…mostly there,” she finished awkwardly.
“Mostly.”
“She’ll know it’s you, Mags,” Alex said.
Maggie said nothing. She walked into the room and took a seat next to her mother’s bedside. She carefully took an IV-laden hand in hers.
“Mami?” she whispered.
To her relief, her mother’s eyes fluttered open. They were foggy from a combination of pain and the various drugs being administered.
A hiss of the oxygen mask. “Margarita?”
Her voice was so weak, it broke Maggie’s heart. She never thought her mother could ever sound like that.
“Yeah mami, it’s me,” she said. “Estoy aquí.”
“Lupita?”
Maggie knew what her mother was asking. “Ella está con mi, mi amiga.” A part of Maggie hated herself for hiding. “Ella dijo que necesito un abogado y mi amiga es una abogado.”
That part wasn’t a complete lie. Lucy was a lawyer.
“Claro.” Maggie noticed her mother’s eyes drift to the doorway. She followed her line of sight to see Alex.
“Y ella? Quién es ella?”
Maggie swallowed. She absently rubbed her wedding ring. “Ella es mi compañera,” she eventually said.
“Compañera como una amiga o…como una esposa?”
Esposa. Wife. The word came so easily from her mother’s lips that at first, Maggie thought she had misheard her. The expectant look her mother aimed her way, though, made it clear that she hadn’t.
She licked her lips. “Um, como una esposa,” she admitted. “Ella es mi esposa. Se llama Alex.”
Maggie felt her heart start to pound against her ribs as soon as the words left her lips. What if her mother said something rude about Alex? What if what her mother said was an echo of what Oscar Rodas had screamed at her all those years ago on a Valentine’s Day night? What if what if what if--
A movement of a thumb across the back of her hand snapped Maggie from her internal panic. She glanced at her mother’s face. There was no judgement, only eyes that were clearing with curiosity.
Maggie saw her mouth open with a question, but before it could be asked, the squeak of rubber against linoleum caught the attention of both of them. Maggie looked over to see a man in a white coat walk in. He wasn’t Dr. Karkouli.
“Who are you?” she asked.
He didn’t look up from the chart in his hands. “Jason Hendrix, haematologist on this case,” he said. “And you are?”
“The daughter.” Maggie couldn’t keep the clipped tone out of her voice.
Hendrix nodded. “Right, so are you aware that your mother here has myelodysplastic anemia?”
Yes, she knew. Her aunt had given her the entire run down on the way to the hospital. Her mother on the other hand…
“Myelo…que es esto, Margarita?” her mother asked.
Maggie’s jaw tightened. “Nothing, mami.”
Her tía had specifically asked her sister’s care team to not tell her about her condition. Sometimes, ignorance was bliss and sometimes, it could make the difference that gave a patient days instead of hours.
Hendrix continued like he hadn’t heard Maggie. From the way his face was still buried in the chart, she knew it was likely.
“It’s a type of blood cancer--”
Maggie had heard enough. “All right, you’re done!” she snapped.
Before he could say another word, she shoved him out of the room. Blood pounded in her ears. She didn’t stop moving him until his back slammed into the wall.
Maggie wanted to rail against the haematologist, wanted to scream at him, wanted to strangle him and punt him through a wall. Her tía had made one request and this, this pendejo hadn’t followed it.
Alex stepped forward. “Who the fuck taught you your bedside manner?” she demanded. “I want the name of your supervising physician right now because you are no longer on this case.”
Hendrix sputtered. “That’s not your call to make Miss—”
Maggie took a sick satisfaction at the startled yelp he let out the second Alex’s hand fisted his scrub top and dragged him close.
“It’s Doctor,” Alex all but snarled. Her voice was like ice. “Doctor Danvers, and it absolutely is my call because my wife and her family requested that you not inform the patient of her condition, a simple, reasonable request given her status, and you elected to ignore it.”
“I, I…”
“That’s enough, Hendrix,” a voice interrupted.
Maggie looked past the rapidly paling haematologist to see the Dr. Karkouli coming up. He had a deep frown etched into his face that wasn’t aimed at Alex, but rather the hapless man in her grip. It told her that he had heard everything.
“Doctor Danvers, if you could please release my colleague.”
Alex did just that.
Hendrix turned to Karkouli. “Doctor Karkouli, this…”
“I said that’s enough.” Karkouli’s voice was equally as icy as Alex’s. “You’ve done enough. As of this moment, you’re off this case. We will discuss your bedside manner or rather lack thereof later.”
Maggie almost wanted Hendrix to protest further, to say something and so that he would get ripped to shreds. But the rest of her just wanted him to shut up. Karkouli was right, Hendrix had done enough. If he opened his mouth again, she was liable to punch him before either Karkouli or Alex could cut him down.
She watched his mouth open, only to click shut.
“Yes, Doctor,” he said, shooting Alex a dark look. He flinched at the one she returned him. He promptly turned on his heel and stalked off.
Karkouli sighed. “Doctor Danvers, Maggie, I apologise on behalf of my colleague,” he said. “He will be disciplined.”
“Good,” Maggie grumbled. “Now, my mom. I know she’s not in the best place right now, but what he said, it’s not gonna…”
She trailed off when she noticed Karkouli’s smile turn sad.
“I’m afraid that your mother’s condition was already extremely fragile. With what Hendrix said, there’s a very good chance that her condition will worsen.”
“Can’t you go in there and tell her that he was wrong? That he read the wrong chart or something or—” Maggie couldn’t stop the pleading note her voice took.
“Maggie,” Alex interrupted gently. “It doesn’t work that way, babe.”
Maggie bit her lip. Whoever came up with the phrase, sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me was a fucking liar.
She took a deep breath. “Can I go in and talk to my mom?” she asked. “Maybe she didn’t believe him, maybe…”
Karkouli tipped his head. “Of course. While you’re in there, there are a few things I’d like to discuss with your wife, physician to physician, provided I have your permission.”
“Go ahead. She’ll probably understand it all better than I can,” Maggie said. She gave Alex a weak smile before stepping into her mother’s room, leaving the two to talk.
If she thought her mother had looked weak when she had arrived just hours earlier, it was nothing compared to the woman she saw now. It was obvious that the information Hendrix had revealed had had an effect on her mother.
Maggie sat in the chair next to the bed and took her mother’s hand in hers. “Hey, mami,” she whispered.
“Margarita…” It came out as a wheeze.
“Yeah, I’m right here, mami,” she said.
A heavy breath. “Tengo cosas que necesito decirte porque el haematologist dijo…”
No. She wasn’t going to do this. Not now.
“Mami, está bien,” Maggie tried to reassure her. “Él se equivocó. Puedes ganarle a esto, yo sé que puedes. Todo lo que tienes…”
She felt like a child again, pleading for her parents to fix the world’s latest evil because she thought they could do anything. Maria Rodas had certainly seemed the person who could fix anything, right any wrong, fight the hardest of fights and come up on top.
“Margarita.” Despite the overall weakness in her mother’s tone, there was still enough sharpness to make Maggie’s jaw click shut. “Suficiente. No puedo y no quiero.”
The exhaustion in her voice made Maggie stop cold. Everything finally clicked into place.
Tu mamá dijo que ella nunca iba a volver a su casa, her aunt had told her quietly on the way to the hospital. Maggie hadn’t wanted to believe it. Her mother was such a strong woman. To think that she was resigned to never returning home, to dying elsewhere, it just didn’t compute.
But now it did. Her mother was tired. Her kidneys were failing. Her liver was nothing more than a scarred hunk of flesh. And now she knew she had a cancer they couldn’t treat because her body was just too far gone.
It wasn’t fair. Maria Rodas was a strong woman. She deserved more than this, deserved a better death than this. She should have been at home with years ahead of her. But the universe had already decided she would get none of that. She was in a hospital bed with hours ahead of her and she was going to die here.
“Okay.” Maggie let out a shaky breath. “Okay, mami. No tienes que pelear.” She reached up and brushed her fingers against her mother’s curls. She ignored the way her heart cracked at the sight of her mother’s eyes fluttering shut at the gentle touch.
“Estoy muy cansada, Margarita…”
“Sí mamí, yo sé.”
“Tu esposa.” Maggie felt her heart leap once more at the word. Esposa. “La mujer de antes, la pelirroja, ella te hace feliz?”
“Sí, mami.” Both Lucy and Alex made her feel happier than she ever thought she could be. Not that she would tell her mother that, even with the woman on her deathbed.
A small, weak nod. “Bueno.” Her head lolled back against the pillow. “Te amo, mijita. Siempre.”
Maggie bit back a sob. She hadn’t heard those words from her mother in years. Hearing them now felt like a gut punch, a reminder of everything that still needed to be said but would likely stay unsaid.
“Te amo también.” Maggie didn’t miss the way her mother’s lips twitched upwards into something that resembled a faint, pleased smile just before her eyes slipped shut. There was a soft breath, then an almost inaudible groan. Her hand slackened in Maggie’s grip.
“Mami?” She tightened her grip on her mother’s hand, as if trying to provoke a response.
Nothing.
Maggie let out a shuddering breath. This time, she couldn’t stop the sob from coming through. She stood and pressed her forehead against her mother’s as she started to cry.
Te amo. Te amo. Vuelve por favor. Tengo cosas que necesito decirte. Quiero decirte más sobre mi esposa y nuestra novia. Quiero decirte sobre mi vida y más. Vuelve por favor. Por favor.
The door hissed open behind her. A hand gently placed itself on her shoulder.
“Maggie, sweetheart.” Alex’s voice was soft. “C’mere.”
She let herself be pulled into Alex’s arms. She tucked her face into her wife’s shoulder to try and muffle the sound of her tears. She felt Alex start to rub small circles on her upper back. The gentle motion made her cry even harder.

If the guys (including Cor or Titus pwease
Cor and Drautos are always the sprinkles on top~ So ofc they get included.(Also this is a long one so here we go with the readmore for this mishmash of headcanon and scenario again)
Noctis doesn’t like the idea of hiring an assassin. He feels it’s dirty and underhanded. Someone who kills for just a sum of money isn’t to be trusted.
But there’s been one that keeps finding him along the journey. They’re like a nasty little devil sitting on his shoulder and whispering in his ear, and no matter how many times he swats them off they just don’t go… They keep pestering him, offering their services and it’s like they keep trying to see what it will take for him to finally take the plunge and do it.
But why? What did they want? Was it a test? A question of his morality? For a laugh? He didn’t know and frankly this was annoying.
And then came Altissia… They were here again; why the hell were they following and what were they after he mused in his own mind. And by now Gladio was ready to go in swinging again and Noctis was just about ready to let him. Until…
Here again they so kindly offering their services, for cheap they say. He asks why the hell he should- the assassin mentions that the empire closely follows behind. He knows this, they all do. But a little birdie happened to tell them that a certain Chancellor was coming too, and that was enough to catch his attention. And from there the assassin talks their way on board.
Noctis doesn’t care about their methods, he just wants them to go after him and only him in order to prevent the plans they say he has (He’ll trust their word on it just this once, even if only because Ardyn was a shady man who oozed danger, and no good could come out of him just knowing who it was he worked for; at this point anything was game for the Nifs and Noctis knows that). The only condition he places on them is that they are allowed to kill the MTs and Ardyn, no other living human.
Outside of that, Noctis couldn’t care how they did it, just as long as it is done. Of course… Only time will tell if this one is successful in their endeavor.
Ignis doesn’t relish the idea of employing such a dark force under his command. But sometimes it’s very much a necessary thing.
Assassins were never out in the open. But they weren’t impossible to find; they often would only reveal themselves only if they wanted to. However with that, you needed to be in the know as to where to find them. And he had already been taught that.
Ignis briefly wanders off from the rest of the group. He tells them not to follow him, but gives only the general area of where he would likely be just in case he stated to take too long. This was already odd behavior and Gladio is already pulling him aside and asking him what gives. All he says is to just trust him, and everything will turn out okay. All any of them can do is just nod and put their faith into Ignis.
He returns to the camp just a little while later, and with another trailing just right behind him. He introduces them to the group for what they are; an assassin. A squabble nearly breaks out and not once did they choose to speak of for themselves. They just sit down and start feasting on an onion all while Ignis does all the talking.
It’s not that Ignis has no faith in the group’s abilities, but the next base they’re breaking into, just a little while later, is more heavily guarded than the last. Especially now that they’ve found out Verstael is rumored to have been spotted going in there which would explain as to why it’s security had been amped up. At this point an extra number being added into the group would greatly help.
All Ignis asks of them is the same he asks of the rest of the party- be silent, and don’t get spotted. He couldn’t care any less for how they did their work otherwise. They could nab everything else in whatever way they pleased. And as for Verstal… it did not matter if his throat was slit or if he was stabbed in the back, choked to death or completely gutted. Ignis cared not for their method of doing things, it could be as disgusting and as brutal, or as swift and clean, as they wanted. Just as long as that man was dead before dawn. Certainly would be a great blow to their forces.
A job is a job as far as Gladio is concerned. Though the matter of this one? It was a low and dirty one- as much as he’d like to take the time out to admire the level of skill and strength it takes for such tasks, he still can’t wrap his head around something that he believes lacks in morals and loyalty.
But as long as he wasn’t on the targeted end of things then it’s whatever to him.
However… it’s all not entirely out of the possibility for him to meet with one. Eventually he finds use in trying to get one around.
He’s not sure entirely where to even begin in his search for one, so he calls up the different members of the Crownsguard in order to aid him. Before he knows it, Monica is calling him up and he finally has a lead as where to go and what to look for.
Down in the steamy alleyways of Lestallum, he was told to look for the one with serpent tattoo and speak the password to. The only serpent he found was on someone’s neck- the entire depiction of ouroboros wrapping around- and so he approached, “Lestallum is always as lively at dusk.” As soon as he speaks those words, their head slowly turns and connect their gaze to his. They begin to speak up, “But I hear Vesperpool buzzes louder at this time.” Bingo…
As for the one Gladio has them, and some of their buddies, go after… it’s himself. He figures sooner or later the Nif’s, or someone else, is going to be dirty and underhanded and send an actual one (instead of MT’s) after him or the others. Especially knowing that who they all are defending just so happens to be the Prince of Lucis.
One thing is for sure is he did manage to gain a whole lot from the ordeal. Maybe not so much strength-wise, but it did help him learn how to handle other fighting styles he hadn’t versed against before. And it gave him more knowledge on certain poisons and hallucinogenics that was more common amongst their own to use (which he had been on the butt end of a couple of them). And he had also learned better techniques to… extract information if he ever so needed to. Yeah… he didn’t think he’d need that.
Let’s just say… Prompto doesn’t really want to meet one. They’re cool in stories he reads or in the games he plays but he doesn’t actually want to come face to face with an assassin if he can avoid it.
He’s sure some of them out there are bound to be nice people (well, nice outside of what they do, like he’s sure they can be laid back and pretty cool but in a homely scene, ya know?) but he knows his luck well enough to figure that if he met one it’s because they want him or his loved ones dead.
Prompto doesn’t even know the first thing to contacting one, at least not outside the cliche ways in which he’s seen in the movies(but life isn’t a movie), and he’s not entirely sure that’s something he’d even want. It’d call for a situation so desperate to make him seek one out…
But the strange side of luck is always on his side; he meets one by chance/accident after he gets separated from the group. He’s not sure how he’s going to make it back, just only that he needs to meet back up with the rest of the group before something happens to them too. He goes to the only close by village and hopes to find the others. Unfortunately they are nowhere in sight.
But the night is coming and fast, and daemons find their way in. Though he held his own at first, it didn’t take too long before Prompto got overwhelmed, and suddenly a stranger of a savior hopped in and saved the day.
Their initial quip about how they’re not so used to being so charitable with snuffing things out (because this was their home) was a little odd to the young blond… But he tried to not think too much about it. He just wanted to quickly thank them and go- he was able to do the latter but the former was impossible due to the severe storm kicking up in the middle of the night.
He quickly came to find out they they themselves were a little odd. Now that they had gave him a room of their own to stay in, he got to listen to them more and there was a lot of things that were starting to sound very… peculiar. What ended up being icing on the cake was when they were cutting up some meat for dinner and they had started to go on about cuts and anatomy (specifically human anatomy which was weird given they were preparing an animal) and mentioned something about learning all that from being so hands on with their job. So he finally asked, “What do you do for a living?”… An assassin and mercenary they answered him with a cocky smirk, and he had a feeling instantly that they weren’t lying.
Things sort of get a little awkward- cool, but awkward. He likes hearing about certain stories and techniques; why, it’s like one of his comics! But Prompto… doesn’t ever want to outright hire them for their primary job. If anything he has them escort him and help get him back to where he belongs.
Cor is no stranger to those who follow that path, whether they come after him or somehow finding them on his side, even if it is merely for daemon or monster hunting. It’s a quick pocket of Gil, nothing more.
Anymore he’s used to seeing ones who come from over the seas- not that Lucis doesn’t have them, because they do, but those are the ones who get sent after any number of the Crownsguard the most. That and at this point the Crownsguard have extra eyes all around in these lands, they’re able to take care of any domestic problem like this right as soon as it gets going.
However, the ones that are from his homeland having an eye kept out on them by the Crownsguard(hell even some of the other stragglers from other sectors from within the kingdom that managed to make it out of Insomnia did as well and perhaps more credit should go to them) was a grand thing. It made it easier to track them down for other reasons.
Cor comes in and cuts to the chase. He knows who they are, what it is they do, and already ready to offer them up a fine sum for their services.
He tries to limit on how nefarious this is really going to get. After all he’s not that kind of man in the least. Him and a few others were gearing up to go take down one of the Empire’s bases (it seemed like every time they did that it wasn’t too long before the Nifs were back and with greater forces than before), so when it comes to a matter of MTs he wants them on search and destroy, until either they can’t do it anymore or until the base is cleared, and to leave those like Loqi or Caligo alive. But more importantly they serve as a distraction so him and his crew can come in from behind.
Every force, every kingdom is guilty of hiding some skeletons in their closet. There’s always a piece that never gets mentioned in the history books. Titus knows it, we all do. A lot of the history from his time is the story of that, so why would this be any different?
At this point Drautos is looking to push himself and his agenda forward. And with that you have to do what you got to do, even if it’s a very ugly thing to do. But for Hearth and Home right? Well this was for home…
He finds one of the ones who has nothing left to lose. One with few friends, one with no family left. At this point their as much of a vagabond as they are anything else. And that’s perfect. Their death doesn’t impact too many, and they stand to gain more than anything.
Titus has them bought under his command and into the Glaives just a short while before he starts to get some of his plans up and running. Likely not too much time, but just enough for them to dig around and for them to get under everyone else’s skin without anyone being any of the wiser. Training gives them a slight feel as to what could come in the future. And it allows for them to also adjust to one thing they never had before; warping.
Despite having to keep up a very friendly facade to their fellow “comrades”, Titus expects them to remain at arm’s length at least. The more apathetic they are towards these people on the inside are then the better, because less true attachment for them will spare them in the long run.
When the time comes… He’ll have them slowly turn against some of the other Glaives…
