Assorted Mike Thoughts
been discussing/workshopping the differences between @fivenightsatfreddysfanfiction's mike schmidt and this au's take on him (thanks to @mangleschmidt for listening to me yap 😁) and i think my ideas are solid/interesting enough that you guys would like to hear!
WHY THE CHANGE?
i've pretty consistently struggled with writing mike for lucasverse. he felt too nice, too level-headed, restrained himself too much; or on the opposite end, too distant, too hands-off, too cold. it felt like i couldn't grasp the character laid out in parlourverse. theoretically, i knew what made pv!mike tick, his quirks of personality and his tone of voice, but i could never quite put it to paper (or google docs)
so, after another deep dive into the parlourblog looking for info and inspiration, something avec said made me pause. i think it was something about listening to your characters, letting them take you where they want to go, even if it's not where you originally thought you'd end up. well, i listened! and i think i'm pretty happy with where my mike and i are. hope you like him too!
AS A SYMBOL
lv!mike started really branching off from parlourverse after i started thinking about pv!mike's "guilt of the 6th" title. pv!mike gets it from being the survivor of the bite of 87, that guilt he doesn't know he has being compounded by the guilt of him failing the night guards under his watch. but it got me thinking: in lucasverse, mike isn't the (only) one with guilt on his hands, or even the one most concerned with the weight of that guilt—it's Lucas! lucas's entire motivations are fueled and driven by guilt, past and present. with the story i have, i felt it was far more appropriate to pass the title onto him instead.
this left me with a dilemma: if lv!mike doesn't have guilt, what Does he have? this had me pretty stuck. i ended up working on other characters, figuring them out, and occasionally trying to see mike through their eyes. as i did, i started noticing one common thread—mike brought them Hope! the gears started turning and turning in my head, and then it just clicked into place. pv!jeremy is the "hope of the 7th"; for reasons i can't get into (but perhaps you can guess), lv!jeremy was never one of the intended victims. but what if mike's strength to survive brought hope to others? what if he was the "hope of the 6th"?
this revelation kickstarted a new trajectory for lv!mike as i worked through the questions in my head: what does hope mean, in mike's case? well, hope could be something that he clings to for survival—getting to buy doll a ring, for example—but hope can also be something that blinds him from danger—seeing the best in lucas and trusting in him despite warning signs. okay, so what gives him this hope? perhaps a desperation to believe in a good, or at least, better life/living situation; a need to believe in someone reliable, a shoulder to lean on when things get tough. then how does it his relationship with others? maybe mike tries to be the best for them, goes the extra mile for them, doesn't let them see the worst so they can keep their own hope; likewise, he becomes reluctant to believe the worst of the people he trusts implicitly, the people who give Him hope.
i'd like to think that this isn't so much a rewriting of pv!mike as it is a shifting of the camera, looking at mike schmidt from a new angle. even jeremy could easily have the weight of guilt on him—sins of the father and all that—which is what makes this take on mike exciting to me. hyping myself up and all 😁
AS A PERSON
another hurdle i faced was the very real fact that environment around you often changes who you become, and lv!mike's environment was certainly significantly changed from parlourverse. the first and most obvious was the inclusion of lucas—he's in the au's name after all!—and his friendship with mike. you may remember a relationship web i made where mike has, well, kind of a "nothing" opinion towards lucas. in the moment, it was mostly because i thought the contrast between their opinions of each other was hilarious (it still is), but the more lv!mike developed in my head, the more it just didn't feel right anymore.
the way i see it: when lucas and mike met, they were both extremely desperate any sort of social foundation. lucas was just fresh off of scott's death, someone he looked up to and latched onto as a friend and father, and suddenly tasked with the burden of saving his not-quite-dead friends; in my backstory, mike was disowned for his relationship with doll, a late paycheck away from being homeless, desperate to secure this job after being turned away constantly for his disability. their relationship would've been awkward and rocky at first—overeager, passionate lucas and gruff, wary mike—but to me, it only makes sense that they would've seen each other as, really, the only friend they each had. they're a team: mike and lucas, lucas and mike.
this friendship would've changed them both, for better and maybe a little worse. in lucasverse's fnaf 1 arc, mike is definitely a lot closer in personality to his parlourverse counterpart. i feel as though pv!mike's prickliness is definitely enforced by his isolation from anyone he can really talk to or trust (at least before jeremy, where he opens up considerably and his edges soften). in lucasverse, i imagine that process happening much earlier: lucas's careful restraint helping to cool down mike's aggravated temper, and mike's sharp wit and judgement giving lucas a boost in confidence.
during the start of their friendship, they take cues from each other equally, though i think the changes in mike are more drastically obvious than in lucas. for one, lv!mike's relationship with the old fazband is definitely far less antagonistic than pv!mike and his fazband. while mike never fully becomes comfortable around them, i feel as though lucas's unwavering affection/enthusiasm towards his "kids" ends up swaying mike, in that "i don't really get or like this thing that much, but if you like it, it's gotta have some merit" way. (the rest of the fazbear fanboying is still weird, though.) additionally, i think lucas has somehow gotten mike to cut down heavily on the swearing. this is a children's establishment, michael. yes, even when the animatronics are around. they're impressionable.
by the time the fnaf 2 arc rolls around, though, i imagine the balance between them has shifted from equality to weighing in lucas's favor. it's not just that he's the (assistant) manager now, it's not just that faith is in the mix—mike trusts lucas completely. why wouldn't he? that's his friend: they talk shit during breaks, goof off after hours, lucas buys him a beer now and then and grounds him when his memory fogs. and mike is the only one lucas trusts to take the night shift now, with all these night guards breaking the rules, tampering with the animatronics or running off without a word.
when you become so used to relying on someone you stop listening to yourself. you become complacent. and when you already doubt your own mind, well... all the easier to let them help you out. you trust them, right? by the time mike meets jeremy, i think he's fully in a state of autopiloting his way through life. he's comfortable. sure, he's working two shifts, but that's just extra money he can save up to get out of this place, this town, this state. for right now, he's settled in his little status-quo bubble. keep hopeful for the future; don't think about the present. don't think about what you've been sweeping under the carpet.
jeremy is the wake-up call. jeremy is smack upside the head that tells mike to pay attention. jeremy is the tearing apart of status quo. jeremy says, "is this what you want to do with your life? is this the kind of person you want to stay as?" jeremy breaks rules to get where he needs to be, stumbles and shoves his way towards the truth, lights the fire of determination because it doesn't matter how much hope you have if you don't claw and drag yourself bleeding to reach it. mike's relationship with jeremy is a stark contrast to his relationship with lucas: jeremy challenges mike constantly, is a pain in mike's ass and lights a fire under it. mike both keeps jeremy at arm's length—a trainee rather than a son—but is still driven by him. lucas tells mike what he wants to hear; jeremy makes mike question himself, realize that the person you need to trust most is your own self.
and what if your own self is the one trying to keep secrets from you? faith and mike are so inseparable and yet they never truly meet; heads and tails of a coin that can't twist to see itself. it's honestly ironic that so much of their relationship is built around faith's Lack of faith in mike: not trusting him with his own memories, with his own body, with his own life. in a way, faith is the final obstacle mike has to face before he can become fully realized as a person. ah well, at risk of spoiling the story, mike and faith will have to figure out life without the other in some very traumatic ways. but i have... Faith in them. eh? eh??? was that mike-worthy? i'm writing this all in one sitting and it's 4am
and with this, i finally come to the end of my very long series of thoughts. if you're reading this, feel free to let me know what you think! send me an ask, dm me, join the parlourverse discord to yell at me there, send anon hate, whatever! ummmm have some bonus art of side characters i haven't drawn yet. see if you can guess their names!*

mahogany 5, 10, 20 <3
mom hi mom <3 love you mahogany
5) How easy is it to earn their mistrust?
mahogany used to be the type to try and see the good in people; everyone has something to offer, after all, they just need encouragement to really shine. it made her overlook the flaws in some people, make excuses for them, question her own instincts... and after 1987, it's just easier to keep everyone at a distance, than to let them close enough to backstab her again.
10) What lie do they most frequently remember telling? Does it haunt them?
"i'll be fine; i can handle it on my own." mahogany has always tried to be independent, forever strong, capable of shouldering her family's burdens without buckling under the weight. i don't think it haunts her so much as it's going to catch up to her, eventually.
20) If they were asked to explain the difference between romantic and platonic or familial love, how would they do so?
"love is love, sweetheart. at the core of it all, it's the same feeling of caring for somebody. what's really different is the thoughts and desires you get from building a relationship with them. you can love one person—wanting to hold their hand, kiss them silly, spend your whole lives together—and it'll be completely different from how you love somebody else—just enjoying talking about your week over a coffee. there's no need to fuss over how to love someone, as long as you just love them as they are."

Assorted Fazband Thoughts
sort of a sequel to this ask from @mangleschmidt i got about the animatronics; sort of based on lore by @fivenightsatfreddysfanfiction
ORIGINAL FAZBAND
as i mentioned in the footnotes, the originals (the hardware anyway) were made specifically for the first location by a small robotics company that was later acquired by fazbear entertainment. the base shells were copied/modified from an old blueprint of the springlocks.
the software was provided by jeremy fitzgerald sr., who had taken an interest in the fazband's development. it was a little unusual when he asked to personally oversee the testing of his prototype "security mode", but given he was related to one of the higher-ups, nobody argued. (weird guy, though. didn't work well with others)
the originals don't actually have a programmed free-roam mode, at least not back in the '80s. any walking around they did (one at a time, in a very limited area, under supervision) was directed via remote control. after '87, people started noticing the fazband's movements became a little more... natural, less stiff. then one night they just started walking around on their own.
also in the other posts, the fazbands aren't really capable of independent, sentient thoughts or personalities. well, they're not supposed to be. but very occasionally, outside of showtimes, they would... talk... to themselves, using bits from their showtime voicelines. even when the ghost children would be resting.
i don't know if they're distinct enough from the ghosts to be their own persons, but i have a feeling they aren't completely unaware.
TOY FAZBAND
the toys are technically the third version of the fazband, after the '80s prototype originals and the rudimentary "rockstar" line that was in production from '85-'98 for other freddy's branch locations. the rockstars were cheap and easy to make (think chuck e cheese but worse) and are what the majority of people imagine when thinking "freddy fazbear's pizza". when mike schmidt became a utahn hero after protecting a young teenager from "burglars", fazbear entertainment was starting to roll out the toys and decided to revamp their first location to suit their new colorful image. (the kid might've put in a good word; wasn't he the grandson of one of the higher-ups?)
the toys are a lot simpler than the originals in a lot of ways: design, question of sentience, lack of jaw movement—but they're definitely more technologically advanced. better at walking, too. they also have a version of fitzgerald sr.'s security mode in their programming, after mike's heroism also raised parental worry about their local pizzeria getting robbed. (honestly, i don't think these animatronics actually have facial recognition.)
as for what other animatronic mangle got inextricably combined with... given fredbear doesn't actually have an endoskeleton, i think it may have been dee-dee, balloon boy's counterpart.
i don't exactly know where to put it, but the marionette is also an exclusive first-location "animatronic". the guy who designed the original fazband made it for his daughter, apparently. they visited freddy's a few times, always carrying that thing in tow; something bad happened, and he left it behind.
SPRINGLOCK SUITS
very few people still remember there were two of them. when you take off the ears, the accessories, they look identical. they were supposed to be thrown out, but fitzgerald sr. took a liking to them. too bad he wasn't much of an engineer though, or he maybe would've given the fazband springlocks, too.

Ok feels mean since shes stuck as a ghost kid but what about 10 and 30 for Violet? And Faith for that matter
damn it is.... 💀 (also hi bestie very funny everyone keeps asking for 30. just a good question ig)
10) What age do they most want to be right now?
hmm... for violet it's kind of an easy answer: whatever age lucas currently is. he and mike are really her (and the other ghost kids') only frame of reference for someone from her childhood growing up and becoming an adult. violet doesn't really Get how it works but she thinks it'd be fun to be in charge of stuff!
faith's concept of age is very skewed because she Has (mike's) memories of growing up and ageing, but she's very conscious of her own stasis. sometimes she feels as old as mike; sometimes she feels forever eleven. i think faith would want to feel something completely different, so... i think she'd like to be in her 70s like byron. i think she'd make a great old lady!
30) What would they do if they knew it would be forgiven?
honestly... violet would kill mike to try and free faith from him. she believes faith is trapped inside mike the way violet and her other friends are trapped inside the fazband, so she doesn't really get why faith keeps trying to protect and help mike. well, some people just need tough love!
faith... she would find a way to tell mike everything about the bite, about their friends, about her suppressing his memories of both. she'd confess to jeremy about her own (albeit brief) part in helping the marionette almost steal his soul (during lv's version of twan), and then she'd be brutally honest with lucas about her fears, for him and because of him. and then she'd break up with violet 😭

Perry: 5, 6, 30
:D
yess yess... perry grins
5) Speech! Speech! Speech! Speech! Will they give one, and what about?
ooh i was hoping for this one! perry isn't actually much of a talker when they're not on a job, so if they gave a speech, it'd probably be some kind of pre-mission "if you fuck this up, i'll destroy you" pep talk. but given she's considerably younger (she's only 21!) than most of her co-workers, it's unlikely to happen, and even more unlikely they'd be taken seriously...
6) Who will they take advice from, no matter what it is? Who won’t they take advice from, no matter what it is?
1) unfortunately, panther. perry idolizes him! 2) also unfortunately, tiger. for most of peregrine's memory he's been a semi-functioning alcoholic with "no spine and no drive", so she automatically disregards her father... hopefully that will change? (i would've added router here but i don't think he'd ever give perry advice unless it was criticism directly related to how they did their job, in which case perry would hem and haw about it but accept the feedback.)
30) What would they do if they knew it would be forgiven?
feed into her worst violent impulses. the reason perry, despite being so emotionally raw and easily goaded, is as professional and standoffish as they are is because they knows panther wouldn't approve of her flying off the hook all the time. if perry didn't have that, she'd kill off any prospective living weapon panther took interest in. (maybe even her brother...)

Foxy 6 7 18(🦊🐶 sorry 😁) 29
Lucas 30 😁😁😁
heehee foxymail 😁 (for anyone else this is for human foxy who does happen to resemble lucian almost exactly so. i guess these answers work for this au's lucian too? pinch of salt etc)
for foxy:
6) Who will they take advice from, no matter what it is? Who won’t they take advice from, no matter what it is?
hmm this is one to ponder... i think he would greatly value chica's advice (<— longtime believer in foxy-chica friends) and pretty much always disregard freddy's. (and golden freddy's advice too, ever since the bite...)
7) Describe them in three words. Now let them describe themself in three words.
me: complicated asshole scapegoat
foxy: washed-up forgotten failure (isn't that 4 words? maybe)
18) Kissing: tongue or no tongue?
zero tongue! chasteness ONLY! lmao but more seriously, i feel like emotionally, he's always flinching away from intimacy
29) What recurring dreams do they have?
dreams where his teeth keep falling out Or ones where everyone he's ever loved doesn't know / remember who he is.
and for bonus guest lucas:
30) What would they do if they knew it would be forgiven?
literally the exact same things he's been doing. to lucas, what happens when (not if) he and the marionette succeed in bringing the kids back will immediately overshadow every bad thing he did to get there. he's doing what's right. he has to be.

Lucas 9 19 29
wahoo ask game!!
9) Do they empathize with non-sentient things (dolls, plants, books…)?
well, you Would think so considering his fondness of the original fazband... but honestly no! he might feel sentimental about certain objects but he's not very prone to "pointless daydreaming", as he would describe it. (but i do think he has a habit of talking at photographs / items connected to certain people as if he was talking to said person directly.)
19) Do they study before tests? Practice before job interviews?
this is actually really funny because... theoretically Yes? but lucas hasn't been to an actual school since 4th grade and learned most of what he does from two mercenaries who are Not qualified educators (did panther ever even graduate highschool?) and the first job lucas got was handed to him by his aunt mahogany... but i figure by when my fnaf2 arc ends he gets into trade school. still don't think he's ever done an interview before. (he knows a friend who knows a friend...)
29) What recurring dreams do they have?
oh, just your usual everyday recollections of your sins of the past where you turn into the man you'd most hate to turn into but know you're already becoming. (ever heard the sound of springlocks snapping onto flesh? lucas hears it constantly.)

foxhound but it's the yuri Violet and Faith 1, 4, 22
i am so sorry i took like a million years to answer thisssss 😭 new character relationship ask game also this is going to get long so you get answers under the cut
1) How did they meet?
at freddy's, around 1984 or so. faith and her classmate mikey would walk themselves over to freddy's and wait for their parents there (it's cheaper than a daycare). while mike would run off and play pirates, faith was a more diligent (or more bored) student, completing homework and practicing for her ballet class.
it was during one of these practice sessions that an argument broke out between mikey and another girl. faith stormed over to break it up, hear out both sides, and give them both a stern piece of her mind. afterwards, the girl, violet, shyly asked if faith would like to join their game as her first mate.
4) How would they describe each other if asked? Physically? In personality?
FAITH: "violet looks the same as she always has. and she looks like mrs. brown—do i look like my mom? i don't remember... we were all dressed up that day, in our "sunday best"—but vi... she'd rather die than wear a silly, froufrou dress like me. i... i guess she... did.
"she's my friend. she'll always be my friend. but sometimes she can just be so, so... so stubborn! i know what she thinks about me and mikey, but she just doesn't get it! i'm trying to help all of us!"
VIOLET: "faith always looks really pretty, i think. like... she wears all these really cute, frilly dresses and my mom keeps asking me why i don't like wearing dresses like that—i mean, she used to. it's just because i don't like them! but faith looks nice. and her hair—was—really smooth and shiny and sometimes she—she used to come to freddy's with a different style every day. and one time she did my hair in a bun like hers with a bow in it, really girly-like. i hated it. but she liked it, so i... i kept it the whole day.
"i don't get it. i don't get her! she was always so nice and—and she always knew what to say, like daddy did, but then she just... she changed. she's different. one minute she's on our side, and then the next she's helping that twerp?! i thought we were friends! and she—she... she's... she's always gonna be my first mate. even if she doesn't want me as her captain."
22) When were they the most vulnerable with each other?
the day violet found out her mom and lucian were in a relationship. violet freaked out yelling, started throwing things, and ran out of the house and all the way to freddy's. she hid in a vent and started kicking and screaming at anyone who tried to pull her out.
eventually, lucas asked faith for help, and the three of them sat side by side until violet calmed down enough to start talking. she ranted about how it felt like everyone was forgetting her dad and replacing him and leaving him behind—then faith opened up about her complicated feelings about her parents ongoing divorce, how she wanted to hate both of them and felt ashamed of it. they stayed in the vent a while longer, but by the time they left, they were all feeling a little better.

LUCASVERSE: AN INTRODUCTION
Tumblr media
Fifteen years ago, on the night of his cousin's birthday party, Lucas Michaels became a murderer. It's a secret only one other person knows, someone Lucas thought he could trust, someone who was supposed to have his best interests at heart… But when that relationship is burned, Lucas is forced to run and hide in the only place he won't be found: Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, where it all began.
Since then, he's been keeping the ugly truth from everyone he cares about: his aunt Mahogany, his co-worker Mike—and the very friends he watched die that day in 1987. After all, what they don't know won't hurt them… right? His new status quo, changed as it is, gets to stay familiar and peaceful… Lucas will take any peace he can get.
But when Jeremy Fitzgerald is hired as the new Night Watch, Lucas's fragile paradise threatens to shatter around him. The teenager has secrets of his own, determined to clear his father's disgraced name and drag out every bloody detail into the light. Desperate to keep his recreation of their Happiest Day, Lucas seeks out help from the mysterious Marionette. All he needs to do is agree to one little deal…
NOTE: This AU is based on the Parlourverse by @fivenightsatfreddysfanfiction and follows most of its major plot beats (up to the end of the FNaF 3 Arc, where Lucasverse concludes). However, not all details, events, or characters will be the same. Some changes are more drastic than others.
[TIMELINE]
[GENERAL LUCAS INFORMATION] (will be updated)
Who is Lucas? What is his personality like?
On the clock, Lucas is the Assistant Manager / Animatronic Technician at Freddy's Pizza, and Mike and Jeremy's boss. Off the clock, Lucas is a weird loner who spends all his free time either hanging out with the old decaying FazBand in Parts/Service, or hovering around Mike (who tolerates it). Generally polite and friendly to all (except Jeremy) with an air of superiority, he seems not to have any hobbies or interests outside of tinkering with animatronics.
Hey, has anyone ever seen him outside Freddy's?
What is Lucas's relationship with Mike and Jeremy?
While Lucas is willing to look the other way when a staff member takes a bit too long on their smoke break, or comes in five minutes too late, everyone agrees that no one gets more share of the favoritism than Mike. Though Mike wouldn't go so far as to call Lucas a friend, exactly, there seems to be an unspoken (if rigid) camaraderie between them; they can share a beer together in silence. They're both in charge of any new security guards, if that adds to it.
On the other end of the scale, Jeremy seems to have drawn Lucas's ire, to a point where it almost seems... personal? Although Lucas keeps a professional demeanor, there are moments where he seems to enjoy making Jeremy's life as inconvenient as possible, from calling him in on weekends or docking his pay for "damages". Does Jeremy's friendship with Mike have something to do with it?
Why does Lucas hate Jeremy?
Sometimes we hate in others what we see in ourselves.
Does Lucas know the fates of the previous night guards? What about the pizzeria / animatronics being haunted?
When a night guard is found to have "disappeared", it's either the owner's or the general manager's duty to inform Corporate. But Lucas tends not to bother Mahogany with troublesome things like that, and—don't tell him, but—Byron's going a little senile nowadays. Anyhow, Lucas is always there at 6AM, him and Mike, so it's no big effort for him to call them in. Mike... never takes it well. Lucas lets him take the day off, if he needs to.
Lucas doesn't consider the animatronics to be haunted, per se, as much as the animatronics are the new bodies/vessels of his dead childhood friends.
And of course he can see ghosts.
He's always been too nosy for his own good.
What was Lucas's life like before he started working at Freddy's?
Lucas grew up in Hurricane, Utah, in a loving family, with his mother Jacqueline, father ██████, and no one else we should be thinking about. Why would you think about that? There's no one else here. No one else worth thinking about. No one else left behind. He has an aunt Mahogany and a cousin Violet. He had an uncle Vincent, but after he died Lucas didn't have any more. Just the one. Only one. No one else.
When Lucas was ten, he ran away from the birthday party. He didn't like being happy. He liked to hide in places where no one would find him. No one found him that day. No one saw what he did, except for one.
When Lucas was ten, his father said they'd move away from Utah to be closer to family. That was a lie. They were running. His family ran across the country, Utah to Arizona, Texas to Missouri, Ohio to Tennessee to Florida. Lucas got good at running, just like he was good at hiding. They stayed a while in Florida, a long while. Nothing important happened to nobody special.
When Lucas was eighteen, he ran away. He came back home.
He's been running ever since.
What did Lucas do in '87?
Who needs to know?
What deal did the Marionette make with Lucas?
Give gifts, give life.
He will put them back together again.

Hey! I hope this isn't too out of nowhere, but I’m really curious about your dynamic between Lucas and the Fifth Child. It definitely seems /much/ more tense compared to the other ghost kids, especially concerning the guards — related, is Lucas around in person during CaBaMS? (as an aside, your renditions of the character designs are great! do you have any favorite design notes from them?)
first of all, please don't worry about asking me anything about lucasverse! i know ive been on a sort of. spontaneous hiatus for a while (school... [shakes fist]) but i promise i am still working on things i want to post at some point! also you must be psychic or something because how did you know i wanted an excuse to mention my lucasverse CAbaMS wip??? (well i renamed it ComWS. little exercise for you to figure out what it stands for) but to answer your question: yes, he definitely is!
and thank you for asking about lucas and faith! their dynamic has always been very interesting to think about. they parallel each other in a way: they're both caught between their love of their old friends and their love of mike; both aware of the pizzeria's dark past but unable (or unwilling) to speak about it; both trapped in time in 1987 but still growing older. it's really their interactions with jeremy that forces a stark split between them, and, like you said, makes faith and lucas's relationship very tense...
to elaborate on how they see each other, i'll speak on it from both perspectives.
LUCAS does, to a point, see faith in a very patronizing way. he both treats her like an adult—considering faith has quite literally been grafted into the body and mind of mike, an adult, and gains a sense of maturity from it—and like a child at the same time, because she is still a child in appearance and behavior. as i said before, faith and lucas are both stuck in time: lucas is physically and behaviorally an adult, but a part of his mind will always be back in 1987.
this leads to him not quite resolving where to stand when it comes to the people he knew before. he is the ghost children's playmate, but he's also their guardian. he is mike's co-worker and supervisor, but he is also (or he tries to be) mike's trusted friend. likewise, faith is both a peer to lucas, but also someone who needs to be protected like the other children, someone who doesn't really know the consequences of her own actions.
this is why lucas tolerates faith's friendship with jeremy, despite personally loathing him. lucas believes faith is just... misguided. she's been "taken in" by jeremy's lies and mission and will no longer listen to actual reason; the only way is for faith to see jeremy's true colors for herself. in the meantime, lucas will just try to protect the others, and maybe, if he plays his cards right, makes good on his deal with the marionette... maybe lucas can save them all, before it's too late.
FAITH sees lucas in a similar way, as she does their friends: misguided, scared, grieving, his anger misdirected. faith worries about lucas just as much as she believes that jeremy is a good person, that jeremy wants to do what's best for everyone, that jeremy can be trusted. but she trusted someone like him before, and... well, look how that turned out.
she knows what lucas thinks about jeremy, what lucas made their friends think about jeremy, and, sometimes, she feels like a traitor; she worries constantly if she's doing the right thing for anyone. although, maybe she was always a traitor at heart. faith's first dying act was to help mike. nothing in that has changed. maybe if she stays her course, she'll prove lucas (and herself) wrong. maybe if she was right about mike, she can be right about jeremy.
faith desperately clings to what's left of her optimism the way lucas clings to his past: it's slipping out of their fingers and cynicism takes over, despair and the desperate need for something to change for the better, someone to just help them keep this sinking ship afloat. it's just, well, no one will listen to reason.
here's the thing about lucas and faith: they care so deeply about their friends and family. and this care can come at the cost of anyone outside the circle of people they love, and that love can be so strong it suffocates and blinds. who is right, lucas or faith? i know the answer, but you will have to wait a while. they'll get their moments in ComWS!! i have a specific scene in mind...
anyway to round this all up! my favorite design notes hmmmm...
lucas and 1987 darwin have similar hairstyles
the badge lucas wears is vincent's. yes, with his name still on it. you decide what it says about lucas

Okay 13 and 23 for Marigold!! Also yk what 11 too. I am curious to know abt what Marigold pick as a weapon in a fight. If only bc shes such a bubbly person
thank you bestie perfect excuse to introduce marigold to the world. have some color tests while i take a few sentences to talk about my girl:
Tumblr media
marigold dayasiri-brown was born on august 8th, 1988, a lone ray of sunshine in her grieving mother mahogany's life. cheerful and exuberant, marigold has a knack for chemistry and less of a knack for making friends, but her boundless optimism is sure to take her far!
unfortunately, her biological father's shadow (i'm sure you can guess who that is) looms large in her family's memory, and sometimes that's all they can see...
shoutout to the anon in the parlourblog who made the outcast child au! anyway, onto the questions:
11) What is your OC's weapon of choice? Have they ever actually used it?
i imagine lucas makes her carry around a swiss army knife "just in case", although she's a bit too squeamish around knives to actually use the "knife" part. her real heavy-duty weapon is the can of bug spray in her trusty backpack. good for spraying bugs as well as the eyes of creepy strangers!
13) If you met your OC, would the two of you get along?
oh i really, really hope so. marigold would definitely do most of the talking but she would also ask a bunch of (possibly annoying) questions and force out of my shell <3 she's also just a really sweet kid in general and i trust her taste in music and media.
23) What emotion is the hardest for your OC to process? How about express?
ooh, probably betrayal. she's not socially aware enough to realize when she's being made fun of, especially by other girls in class. she can be quite trusting and naive that when they say they're her friends, they actually mean it. i think she's been burned quite a few times since starting middle school, but she's never fully processed any of it... it doesn't really help that she's normalized the distance and mild disdain her grandfather and cousin treat her with.
which connects to the emotion she finds hardest to express: sadness. i think, deep down, marigold feels increasingly lonelier as she grows up and her world gets wider and she feels smaller. but she clings to the idea that, if she just keeps smiling, with her spirits raised and her head held high, she'll find her place. until then, she's listening to the fazband play on...

The world needs to know about Mike and his stunning 2nd wife, his malewife
Mike
2, 8, 13, 20
Rodrigo
4, 13, 19, 23
this ask is going to be so long ill just put it under a readmore 😭 foxhound supremacy forever
MIKE:
2) What's something about your OC that people wouldn't expect just from looking at them?
it's very easy for him to slip into a paranoid spiral when what he remembers (or thinks he remembers) doesn't line up with what's in front of him. if it's an isolated, easily explainable instance, mike can brush it off. when it becomes a pattern, mike will start distrusting either his own perception or reality itself, becoming very confused and agitated when other people act as if nothing is wrong.
usually faith or lucas would immediately sense what's happening and ground him by assuring him of a logical (usually faulty memory-related) explanation, or erasing his memory entirely (in faith's case). truly, what would mike do without them...
8) Would your OC ostensibly be able to get away with murder?
probably not, or at least not very well... i think he would mostly feel too sick to his core to attempt to get away with it, even if it was in self-defense. mike doesn't like hurting people.
he'd definitely do better if he had help from someone who actually knows what they're doing in this situation (coughcough lucas).
13) If you met your OC, would the two of you get along?
as strangers, we'd just be staring at each other awkwardly. if he knew who i was, he'd probably get mad at me for putting him in this situation and then i'd cry </3
20) Does your OC have a tendency to get jealous? If so, how does this manifest?
i think he'd only get jealous in extremely specific circumstances, like if doll (or a certain pirate) suddenly started pulling away from mike emotionally and spending a lot of time elsewhere, with someone else. it reignites a lot of the insecurity mike felt growing up, the idea that there's something wrong with him, that he's "damaged goods", that he's not good enough for the people he loves.
RED:
he'd direct a lot of this anger at himself, probably start drinking to cope until they (inevitably) break the news that they don't love him and are leaving him and he should go die in a hole. (there were at least a few times when mike suspected doll might leave him, especially early in their relationship, after they both got disowned for being together.)
4) When scared, does your OC fight, flee, freeze or fawn?
his first instinct is to flee, but if that's not possible for whatever reason (he's cornered or someone he cares about is in danger) then he'll fight tooth and claw.
13) If you met your OC, would the two of you get along?
see mike's answer 💀
19) How does your OC behave when enraged?
23) What emotion is the hardest for your OC to process? How about express?
there are kind of two main stages: first, red goes completely cold and serious, dead-focused on whatever made him angry in the first place. if he can settle the issue with a (relatively) calm discussion, he will. he's not really one for confrontation, but his personal pride is something that he can't let stay chipped.
the second stage is after all negotiations have gone badly, or if negotiations were never on the table in the first place. rodrigo essentially just flips out and tries to (metaphorically?) bite the other person's face off. he is not stopping until they apologize, die, or he dies going after them. if this feud goes on long enough, he'll do anything in his power to ruin their life. but he's not a monster enough to bring their family into it.
probably existential dread. the idea that the world will go on and on without him and not even spare him a glance. he doesn't want to face the fact that he has been forgotten by everyone, even if he knows logically that it's true. it's why he keeps telling his stories, trying to relive the past glory days. he's not ready to give up on himself yet.
red finds it hard to express genuine love and affection, especially verbal affirmations like "i love you" or even "i'm glad you're in my life". he stays quiet about these things until they're too big to ignore, and even then he's probably going to ignore them for as long as possible until the other person makes the first move.

Lucas 2, 23
heehee hi 😁 bugman 2. why is he the worst actually
2) What's something about your OC that people wouldn't expect just from looking at them?
hmm... well he really isn't as family-oriented as he seems. sure, his entire life revolves around the ghost of his cousin (and their friends), and he places great importance on helping out his aunt and granduncle in their family restaurant... but it's really just because of the guilt eating at him. lucas doesn't value family as a reality over family as a symbol. it's why he's quite blinded to the love and support he gets from mahogany (and more recently, marigold).
23) What emotion is the hardest for your OC to process? How about express?
grief!!! the entire plot/reason of being for lucasverse is just lucas taking 30 years to learn how to grieve properly: his friends, his childhood, mike, his mother, uncle, freddy's (when you list it all out it's kind of a lot) and a million smaller things in between...
as for expression, probably forgiveness. i don't think he's ever forgiven a person in his life. he's not having a proper conversation/apology about it; it's just a sudden absence of his presence while he goes and finds someone else to hold a one-sided eternal grudge against someone else.

Creature known as Lucas for the Ask Meme
4, 11, 13, 16
truly he is a bug of a man. a veritable insect
4) When scared, does your OC fight, flee, freeze or fawn?
lucas is really only scared of two things (the man who murdered his friends and panther) so when he's put into panic mode it's like he's a small, terrified boy again and he locks up like a deer in headlights. after he regains his senses, though, he switches to fawn or flight depending on who he's facing. panther, at least, can be reasoned with.
11) What is your OC's weapon of choice? Have they ever actually used it?
lucas is more of an opportunist, but his toolbox probably has a wieldable wrench or screwdriver, though he'd prefer something longer-ranged. i can see him concealed carrying a handgun in the future. he probably hasn't attacked anyone with either.
if we're going with a more broad/metaphorical meaning of "weapon", he's a proficient gaslighter. and he has directed the old fazband in jeremy's direction, so...
13) If you met your OC, would the two of you get along?
no! lmao.
longer answer: irl, i'm chatty if i ever say more than ten words a day instead of just lurking and staring at other people. and lucas would Noooot give a fuck about a random stranger. besides if he knew i'm the one who put him through all this i would just be dead. also he's probably a conservative, all things considered (at the very least fiscally).
16) What is your OC's pain tolerance like?
physically, probably on the higher end of tolerating pain. guy who drives his foot into a brick wall at the speed of a freight train and just walks it off. freak.
emotionally, he puts up a good guard but the gaps in his armor are incredibly exploitable. one jab in the right spot and he is crushed. he folds so quickly. he's like the perfect living weapon candidate.

10, for Perry
Kinda curious if there's anything there ;3
im actually going to throw in a couple related bonus questions because i really enjoy yapping about perry
10) What lie do they most frequently remember telling? Does it haunt them?
peregrine tends to lie, either to play up her cocky persona or so she seems less sentimental (aka "weak") than she actually is. so the lies that stick with her aren't so much as one specific lie as it is a category: the (very few) lies they've told panther. perry learned pretty quick (and pretty painfully) that panther can see through direct lies, so any she's told are half-truths or lies of omission. so far, panther seems to have bought them all... but paranoia whispers in the back of peregrine's mind: what if panther already knows? and what if he's just waiting to teach her a lesson?
28) Would they prefer a lie over an unpleasant truth?
peregrine hate, hate, hates being lied to (probably because they can be quite gullible), so she would take the unpleasant truth any day, especially since withholding information could be costly in their line of work. however, perry can still be pretty stubborn when it comes to what she wants to believe...
34) How hard is it for them to shake a sense of guilt?
not very easy at all, especially because they only really feel guilt when crossing the lines panther's drawn. perry tries their best not to let it show (more weakness, of course) but it's something that will stick in their gut for the foreseeable future.
