Trunks blazing, trumpets blaring — that’s the kind of entrance that little Lulu and her entourage like to make! Elephants look after their own, and Lulu is no exception. Although she is technically the daughter of Lualeni, an orphan who we rescued in 2004 and raised back to a life in the wild, Lulu’s family is really much larger. Lualeni’s friends from her Nursery days, like Galana and Naserian, are always there to lend a helping hand — and even Galana’s daughter, Gawa, acts like a big sister to Lulu. Amazing story! A fighter who never gave up now has her own sweet baby. Elephants have many lessons to share with us humans don’t you agree? #trunkupwines @dswt ・・・ We rescued Lualeni after onlookers witnessed the four-month-old attempting to join passing herds, only to be rejected each time. Now, fourteen years later, Lualeni will never walk alone again. Amazing story and confirmation of the enormous impact #dswt has on the lives of Elephants AND what emotional, intelligent creatures they are. #trunkupwines @dswt ・・・ It’s a girl! We’re delighted to announce the birth of Lulu, Lualeni’s first baby and our 30th “grandcalf” born to wild-living orphan. The new mum arrived at our Ithumba stockades last night with her little one in tow, clearly brimming with pride and excited to introduce us to her. We’ve known Lualeni since she was just four months old, when she was abandoned.
