Coming (Sometime?) in 2025(?): "Our Days Are Numbered"
Following up this post to say that I've chosen fanfic. I once swore up and down I'd probably never write fanfic, because it's never been my thing, so of course I now have to contradict myself, because now I Have Ideas and, as everyone knows, the first step to a brilliant and successful fic involves making at least one slapdash mockup "cover," (this is true for me and recording projects, so *surely* it must be true for everything) which I've also now done.
Seriously though, I kinda do have a plan. See, way back in a previous decade I decided to write a novel. Not a "real" novel, because at the time the phrase "vanity pressed" was much more pejorative than it seems to be now. But I did make a novel that I worked on really hard for about five years, sent through beta-editing, did the cover design, and even composed/recorded a soundtrack to play while writing. It was self published and sold about four copies, but it was still A Whole Thing.
What helped me do that was an idea I stole from Hunter S. Thompson (who probably stole it from someone else). Famously, HST wrote "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" as a cool-down mechanism while simultaneously working on a more difficult and dangerous Real Story ("Strange Rumblings in Aztlan"). In my case, all I did was spit out the occasional cringeworthy faux-Thompson ripoff political blog post, but those were fun, loose exercises to do in between the harder work of my novel's chapters.
Well, this year (as perhaps I've said too much already) I plan to complete and self-publish a second fantasy atlas. The first one (from 2022) was a massive amount of work, and this second one might not be as much, but it won't be easy. So I'm gonna try to do the laborious-big-work vs quickie-cool-down idea againâand this time, my cool-down's gonna be a Minthara fic starring her and my utterly ordinary swords bard. I understand that female characters are poorly represented among BG3 fanfic, so maybe this will help that.
Or maybe not! It'll probably be very basic-normie, because for better and worse that is me; I don't write salacious stuff well or often, and I'm sure I'll break umpteen Unwritten Rules of Fic. But whatever. I also won't pretend that a fic featuring a male human Tav and Minthara will get much juice in the Minthy fandom, let alone the wider BG3 fandom. And that's fine, because it would be my first one and expectations should be Very Low. It would simply explore some of the ideas from this answered ask about culture clashes, as well as this pricelessly inspiring jumping-off-point of a screencap.
Anyway, it won't be happening soonish, but when it does, it'll be linked here. Thanks in advance for your patience with someone completely ignorant Kool-Aid-Manning himself into something he probably shouldn't. But it's gotta happen at some point, because like I said, I don't make cover art for nonexistent stuff. I am, after all, a professional.

Shawne Jackson was presented with an eviction notice during a heatwave and a global epidemic. Jackson has been living in a two-bedroom, 1,200 square foot apartment in Toronto for eight years, but her landlord presented her with an eviction notice this summer after almost a decade of a tenancy.
âI'm 73 years old ⌠I'm paranoid of COVID-19. I'm in the middle of a heatwave. Now, Iâm going to be looking for places to live by September 30th,â Jackson told CTV News Toronto. Flynn Daunt, a Toronto tenant who faced the same fate at his Keele Street home where he has lived for more than a decade, said that serving unexpected evictions during a pandemic feels like âa violent act.â
âWe're being forced to go out into a dangerous unknown,â Flynn told CTV News Toronto. Flynn described experiencing âplenty of sleepless nights, staying up all night worryingâ after being served a notice.
While Jackson was offered a different unit owned by the same landlord, she had to turn it down. Jackson is terrified of heights and the suggested apartment was on the sixth floor. The unit is also 300 square feet smaller than her current one. âI absolutely could never live on the sixth floor. I'm petrified of heights,â Jackson said.
âI don't think my furniture would fit in 900 square feet. I'm not opposed to moving, but the location must fit my requirements.â Both the Jackson and Daunt cases are part of a growing practice known as 'renovictions,' commonly known as a N11 notice in landlord-tenant proceedings.
A slang term, ârenovictionâ is when a landlord evicts a tenant by claiming they will or need to complete major renovations, according to local tenantâs rights group RenovictionsTO. Many tenants also receive N12 eviction notices when they are served, which is eviction by way of lease termination for the ownerâs own purposes. Parkdale Legal Aid clinic worker Cole Webber says heâs seen an increase of N12s and N13s served over the last year.
âRenovations are used by investors as a pretext to remove sitting tenants, allowing them to raise rents and increase the overall value of their property assets,â Webber told CTV News Toronto. When reached for comment, the City of Toronto said they are aware of the rising trend of renovictions.
âSpecifically, we have heard about an increase in the use of N12, âLandlord's or Purchaser's own use,â and N13, âDemolition or conversion,â by landlords serving notices to long-term tenants in order to move new tenants in at a higher rental rate,â said Abi Bond, executive director of the town's Housing Secretariat, to CTV News Toronto. Despite the fact that landlord-tenant interactions are typically the province's responsibility, the city claims it is working across divisions to address the loss of affordable housing.
âWith the help of the Tenant Advisory Committee, the City has also created a comprehensive Rental Housing & Tenant Information section on its website with information on understanding and fighting evictions, housing standards, landlord and tenant rights and responsibilities, and resources for finding housing, legal help, and housing assistance,â Bond said. CTV News Toronto contacted the Tribunals Ontario Landlord-Tenant Board to inquire about the amount of renovictions and own-use eviction notices served in the previous year.
Meanwhile, RenovictionsTO has built an interactive map that allows renters to self-report renovictions or evictions for the benefit of the landlord. In addition, the group provides tools to ensure that renters are aware of their legal rights.
If tenants are looking to fight back against an eviction notice served, Webber said that they need to get to know their neighbours. âOrganizing is the number one way for tenants to defend their homes and stop evictions,â he said.
Toronto tenant Holly Jo went through a similar experience after living in her Kensington Market home for 13 years. Jo was served an eviction notice in 2020. Faced with heading to the online tribunals held by the Ontario Landlord Tenant Board (LTB), Jo was forwarded the contact information of a Toronto lawyer offering to do pro bono work for those served eviction notices during the pandemic.
âI got him like five days before my hearing and we worked our butts off from morning until sometimes 1 or 2 a.m. trying to get a case together,â Jo told CTV News Toronto. Eventually, Joâs landlordâs case was discarded â when being served an N12, tenants are required to receive an offer for compensation. Jo was never offered when she was served her notice.
However, Jo says that her landlords were already working on a new eviction order with the LTB the next day. Finally, the strain becomes so much for her to handle. âI just couldn't take it anymore. It had been more than a year, and it had taken its toll,â Jo said.
"It was because I had been living there for thirteen years and was feeling extremely disposable and afraid because I do not have family," she said. Jo wants other residents to know that they can get assistance from their own communities, their own tenant networks.
"Before I found my community and network, I was pretty lonesome. I would have been completed isolated if I had not found them and so that scared me." Those fighting to stay in the hotel must heed the advice.
âInstead, they should join along with their neighbors and look for ways to raise the social, financial, and political costs of evictions for the landlord.â

K-Drama is Life <3
Because K-drama is life! Lol. I think after the DOTS fever, the number of k-drama watchers significantly increased. I was so surprised to see so many people watching k-dramas on subways, buses, while waiting in line, as well so many people sharing them on social media. I still watch k-dramas, but I think the height of my k-drama addiction was circa 2011-2013. It was during this time that I was working on a graveyard shift. Because of my schedule, I was always so wide awake on weekend nights. And because I donât like to party or go to clubs, I would always end up spending the night watching k-dramas.
Here are some of my recommended (kinda not so old) k-dramas that Iâve watched and would want to play back right after finishing.
YOUâRE BEAUTIFUL (2009) â I remember watching this back in my college days. I love the theme â a cross dressing girl joining a band. I also love the songs. I even downloaded the showâs songs and became a big fan of PSH and JGS together. All in all, it was a cute watch for the college then me!
MY GIRLFRIEND IS A GUMIHO (2010) â Something cute, something light, something funny! A feel-good watch with very adorable leads! Shin Min-Ah is one of my Korean girl crushes and she delivered her role well. What a very cute gumiho she is!
CITY HUNTER (2011) â Umm, itâs a LMH starrer, so no questions asked if Iâm gonna watch it. Lol. But seriously, this is my favorite drama of Lee Min Ho. Iâve watched him in BOF, it was a fun mess to watch and it was the show that made him a certified Hallyu star. Heirs was all butterflies in my stomach, but the storyline was meh. Personal Taste was forgettable. I forgot to continue watching LTBS because I couldnât shake-off Jun Ji Hyunâs acting from MLFTS. The feels were kinda the same. But City Hunter was the show that made me a certified LMH fan. The show was so good and action suited him so well. The drama was well executed; the other casts were just as stellar. If I were to recommend a LMH drama, this is the one!
THE PRINCESSâ MAN (2011) â I think I finished this show in one sitting. That means I didnât sleep for the next 24 hours just to finish this. Wow! The storyline is like a Romeo-Juliet love story set in the Joseon period. What made me so invested in this show was the main coupleâs chemistry! They looked so good together that after the watching show, I keep on looking for videos of them together. Hoping they had something going on behind the cameras, lol. Aside from the love story, the storyline about political power and revenge were solid. Although there were some low moments in the middle (Because this is period drama and 24 episodes), the whole drama itself remains awesome. Go, watch it!
GAKSITAL (2012) â Oh, Gaksital! Where do I begin? This drama is a bit long at 28 episodes, but definitely worth the watch! I didnât expect to watch this one. Itâs a heavy period drama centered around a hero wearing a bridal mask (Gaksital) that was set during the period of Japanese occupancy in SK. I canât remember what made me decide to give this a go, but Iâm glad I did! I think it was after 5 to 6 episodes that I started to feel so engaged and excited while watching this show. Every character provided solid performance especially Joo Won and Park Ki-Woong! Theyâre both too awesome in this drama!
DREAM HIGH (2012) â My heart! I love this show. Donât we all want a show that makes us want to work hard to achieve our dreams? Plus, the songs in this show are just as amazing. Itâs light, sometimes heartbreaking, funny, endearing⌠And that ending, I loved it!
REPLY 1997 (2012) â My fangirl heart! If you are a fangirl like me, you can totally relate to this show! Lol. Still my fave among the 3 Reply Series. The 1988 series may be the most popular, but it totally broke my heart with what they did to Jung Hwanâs character! Anyways, this show was like a breath of fresh air. A nostalgic look back on the lives of six friends in Busan.
MY LOVE FROM THE STAR (2013-2014) â Jun Ji-Hyun is a winner! She totally owned her character. She is most suited to play this kind of character. Iâve watched her in a movie before where she is quiet, but I would always remember how she is as a Sassy Girl. Haha. Kim Soo-hyun on the other hand is handsome! Iâve known him from Dream High and I already like him from then. Both leads match perfectly and youâre in for a wonderful time!
HEALER (2014-2015) â Healer-nim! This show made a Ji Chang-Wook fan out of me. This show was perfect for him! I just wish they extended it to one more episode so the ending didnât feel so rushed. Nevertheless, it didnât lessen my love for Healer. Aside from his action scenes, I love love love the chemistry between the leads. They looked so good together on screen! My gawd! Aside from actions, heâs so good at romance too! What canât he do? HAHA. Iâve tried watching K2, but it didnât feel right for me so I dropped it. Lol. Iâve also watched a few episodes of Suspicious Romance, but it also didnât register so well with me. I feel that I donât want to watch any other show of JCW other than Healer, Lol. I want to always remember him as Healer!
SPLISH SPLASH LOVE (2015) â Short but sweet! I only watched this recently, but would want to recommend it for those looking for a starter. Itâs only a two-part drama special so it wouldnât take up much of your time. I like Kim Seul-gi! I wish theyâd give her more lead roles in the future.

Despite the province-wide moratorium on evictions in Ontario due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a court recently ordered the eviction of a tenant after the landlord testified to property damage, alleged illegal activities and non-respect of social distancing directives.
What Happened?
On May 28, 2020, the Ontario Landlord and Tenant Board (âLTBâ) terminated the tenantâs tenancy as of June 2, 2020 and ordered the tenant to move out of the rental unit on or before that day.Â
The LTB found that the landlord had satisfied both the normal test for eviction and the higher test being applied during the COVID-19 pandemic, specifically, that there were urgent circumstances which required the eviction of the tenant.Â
The LTB found that there had been willful damage to the leased premises and that the tenancy presented a threat to safety. The LTB based its decision on evidence that a large window at the front of the unit had been willfully broken and on the high frequency and number of visitors to the premises, which had not abated following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.Â
The LTB heard that visitors to the unit arrived throughout the day and night, that many stayed for only a few minutes and others for extended periods of time, including overnight. There was evidence that the police had been watching the property because of suspected drug-related activity. Another tenant, who cuts the lawn at the property, testified that he found both needles and small white baggies, which he said were of the type used for drugs, containing white residue. The same tenant said visitors to the tenantâs unit sometimes gathered on the driveway and that the noise from the unit disturbed him and the neighbours at all hours.Â
In an affidavit, the landlord said that because of the tenantâs conduct, he was concerned about the safety and well-being of his other tenants, the buildingâs neighbours and himself.
COVID-19 Context
The landlord applied to court to request an order enforcing the LTBâs eviction order. The court application was necessary because of Ontarioâs province-wide moratorium on evictions.
Decision
While the court acknowledged the moratorium on evictions, it stated:
âI certainly accept [âŚ] that these are not ordinary times and that everyone has an interest in having a home that allows them to stay healthy and assist in preventing the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Despite the extraordinary times, however, there is no moratorium that favours willful damage to property.
In deciding whether the eviction order should be enforced, [âŚ] the court must consider the societal objectives of the eviction moratorium as they relate to the prevention of the spread of COVID-19. That a tenancy is being exploited for purposes which may actually promote the spread of the virus will weigh heavily in favour of enforcement of the eviction order.âÂ
Based on the evidence and the submissions by the landlord, the court found that the scale in the case tipped in favour of enforcement of the eviction. The court accepted the evidence that the tenantâs unit was being used for illegal activity and further stated:
â[T]he steady stream of people entering and leaving the tenantâs unit at all hours of the day and night, which continued unabated when the pandemic began, is evidence of the tenantâs indifference to the pandemic-related physical distancing expected of all citizens, to her own health and to the health of her visitors and everyone with whom they in turn come into contact.âÂ
As a result, the court ordered the enforcement of the eviction against the tenant.

Stephanie Murphy: 'ĹDo you think Bitcoin will be able to shift from block rewards to transaction fees to maintain security as the block reward approaches zero?'
Andreas M. Antonopoulos: 'ĹThis is one of the fundamental misunderstandings and dynamics of mining for most people, which is the idea that something suddenly happens sometime at an undescribed future, either at the next halving or in 2141. The truth is on a daily basis, every single miner in the industry looks at six or seven different factors: the efficiency of their mining equipment, the price of electricity in their local fiat, the cost of their operation system, the current price of Bitcoin in fiat, the reward that's available as a block subsidy, the average amount of fees they can get, and the relative proportion of hashing power. They decide based on all of these factors. Do I leave this specific machine on at its current efficiency, or do I turn it off, or do I point it to another coin? That happens every single day. Every single day that decision continues, it's rebalancing all of these dynamic factors. So the shift between block subsidy and fees happened every single day since January 3rd 2009 and it continues to happen today.
Sometimes, the capacity of the blockchain, the number of transactions that are in there, the value of the fees mean that it really attracts miners because there's a lot of fees to take. Other times, the fees decrease, the number of transactions decreases, so they're now more reliant on block subsidy and then it swings back and forth and back and forth. It's gonna oscillate in that way all the way to 2141.
Stephanie Murphy: 'ĹWhat does everybody's view on Rootstock (RSK)?'
Andreas M. Antonopoulos: I don't think Rootstock is putting smart contracts on Bitcoin. Rootstock is allowing you to use Bitcoin to pay for smart contracts on the Rootstock Drivechain, which you could theoretically do by shifting money into Ethereum. In fact, recently I saw someone who had built a gateway that allowed you to make a Lightning payment that terminated in an Ethereum contract. So there's many ways to bridge different blockchains together. Quite honestly, I don't think we should be doing smart contracts on Bitcoin. Bitcoin doesn't do smart contracts, and it doesn't do smart contracts because it does security. That's not a trade off I think is worth doing. It's much better to leave that to a chain that has a much more experimental culture and can take bigger risks. As to whether we can do smart contracts, that's not a binary question; it's a question of value. So can we do smart contracts that can keep $1,000,000 secure? Yes. $10,000,000? Maybe. $100,000,000? No, the DAO proved that. How about now? DAI is doing more, so maybe yes. So it's basically a moving front. As the the maturity of the smart contract ecosystem expands, we can do bigger and bigger stakes (no pun intended) within the smart contract ecosystem. Every now and then there's gonna be a fairly catastrophic failure that's gonna cause a regression in the amounts of money that's put in them. But essentially it's growing. We're proving this every day, and it's the same thing with Bitcoin. The way you measure security in a smart contract or you measure security in a cryptocurrency like Bitcoin is how secure is Bitcoin? X billion dollars. That's the stake that is sitting on it right now, unhacked so far.
Stephanie Murphy: 'ĹIf Bitcoin or crypto is going to give power back to the people, how can we help people from sanctioned countries like Iran, North Korea get access to this freedom?'
Andreas M. Antonopoulos: 'Ĺ[...] one of the ways we fix issues of privacy is by using the asymmetry inherent in all societies, which is generally the number of people being watched is much larger than the watchers. The panopticon works both ways. If you surveil people, they can surveil you back. Blockchains give you a really important thing, which is immutability. So for example the next set of leaks of Panama papers, what you do is you embed them in the blockchain so they cannot be erased from history. You can do the same thing with other surveillance technologies. If you want to create a situation where society moves towards protecting privacy and making it stronger, what you do is you strip the powerful people in society of their privacy and suddenly they care.'

Alliance of Elders PS4 Weekly Newsletter
Issue 2 | Volume 1 -- Monday, July 23, 2018
Letter from the Editor:Â
Unfortunately, Google Docs, Tumblr, and WordPress all do not support Microsoft Word uploaded files. Therefore, it is my executive decision that from now on the newsletter is going to have to be in plain text in order for the greatest number of people to be able to view it. Not very many people are on Facebook, so the reach of the weekly newsletter is not as far as I would like for it to be. By writing it in a plain text document, I will be able to post to multiple sources, allowing for more people in the guild who are not part of our Facebook group to use it effectively. I apologize for any disappointmentâI am highly disappointed myself, as my vision for this was to be as creative as possible. Thank you for your understanding!
 See you in Tamriel, JennyPancakes

>>SUBMISSIONS ARE OPEN!<<
Not very many people have been submitting anything for the newsletter; however, it can only be successful with your help! If you are willing and able to host an event for the guild (trials, dungeon runs, world boss hunts, skyshard hunts, lorebook hunts, fishing expeditions, etc., please get in contact with us, so that we can post an event on our weekly calendar!
If you would like to submit something else, such as fan art/writing, lore content, gear/build information and tips, or anything else, we would be happy to include that in our newsletter, as well!
>>CLASSIFIEDS SECTION<<
Our Classifieds section is focused on bringing you together with other people directly within the guild, when it comes to items you are selling or wanting to buy, as well as making connections for events you are wanting to participate in.
Simply send what you are looking for (or looking to get rid of), and hopefully this section can help link you with the right person!
