Stream-of-consciousness thoughts for TriMax Vol. 9, Chapters 3-4 below.

Chapter 3: LR

Aww, Miss Melanie is doing what she can for the kids despite the situation.

They know the situation is bad, though. Kids are smarter than we give them credit for.

I'd bet Miss Melanie is faster than people would guess. And I'd bet the kids know it, even if they forget from time to time, because they've been on the receiving end of it.

Wolfwood sure left an impression on the orphanage if they're still asking for him all these years later.

I'm just... gonna savor this panel.

Also, I can't help but wonder with the way the text is placed. Like... it's Miss Melanie speaking, but with Wolfwood in the foreground looking wistful and in a precarious situation, I find myself wondering if he's thinking something similar, but about Vash.

I'm honestly a bit surprised Livio's giving Wolfwood the smoke break. Surprised, but glad, since Wolfwood's taking full advantage of it. He's in no rush to try and take down Livio. There's nothing he's going to savor in this fight.

Livio backstory!!! I like the part where he apparently sees Wolfwood as trustworthy enough for it. Or... possibly dead enough for it.

This is no place for a tired, lost, and frightened child.

It would be somewhat upsetting to continually find letters in your own pocket with no concept of where they came from.

Chapter 4: At the Verge of Death

Oof, that was a good, clean shot, looks like.

The mercs aren't happy. They're just now realizing their place in the order of things here.

Ok, this is interesting, 'cause it implies he expects Livio to get back up despite getting shot in the head.

Chapel's too happy about this, the sick fuck.

Stampede Spoilers: It's interesting that they kinda gave this emotional beat to Legato in Stampede. Like, they seem to be writing out Chapel anyway, what with wrapping Eye of Michael more tightly under Knives/Conrad, and Legato's the obvious choice for someone who would get a kick out of the sadism of it all. Plus, of course, it allows that nice parallel language that he uses about not understanding the value of a love between brothers in Stampede. (I'm still not over that line. It's just *chef's kiss*. I hope anime-onlys get a chance to appreciate it after season 2. I hope it makes them twitch as much as it makes me twitch.)

Ah, here are the Eye of Michael guys. These are separate from the mercs. I get it. Not sure they'll stand much of a chance if Livio's down for the count.

Uhhh... maybe we need to forget what I just said about Livio being "down for the count."

You know, Bungo Stray Dogs has an interesting episode about what happens when you continually return individuals from the verge of death like that....

Some thoughts after watching 11x06 "On the Inside". I'll put it beneath a break because there's more than I thought to my mindless rambling.

Okay so they're going with a straight horror movie intro but skipping the usual 'we're having such a good time out here in the woods...wait, something it out here too'

Both LR and KC do a really good terrified for their lives

Also have to say Virgil really seems to have stepped up since we met him because dude can actually take out walkers now. Good job, sir. Never stop learning.

More of Leah walking around amoungst a group of people and having no real reason to be there or contribute anything to the scene. 🙄

Damn, Hondo! Stop pulling at Frost's nails! I can't rip half mine off at work without feeling like Hershel when Rick chopped his leg. Fingers and toes always make thigs worse.

Chokeholds are illegal, Daryl. Someone needs to have him watch his own earlier seasons.

The conversation beneath the conversation between Daryl and Frost is spot on and super interesting.

Daryl's like 'look...I'm going to have to chop your finger off but it's for a good reason. Gonna save your life and who knows, maybe one of these weirdos has a Govenor closet somewhere and they'll let you take it home with you.'

Plus him taking off the vest was WAY more entralling than it needed to be, but I'm a woman with eyes so don't judge me. 👀😍(Enthralling? yup, that's what we'll go with)

It's a definite sign Daryl's not all team Reapers because he's basically taking off/hiding who he really is to fit in with his crazy ex-girlfriend's new posse.

Though my science schooling is giving how little blood there is from the amputation the side eye. Guess Frost just willed his blood some place else.

Am I crazy or is the music playing while Daryl torutres Frost the same that was playing in 10x07 while Carol tortured the Whisperer? Coincedence??🤔

Ofc the pencil breaks when Connie TRULY needs it. Fate really has it in for her, screwing her over with one of her most trusted friends.

These Reapers have no idea do they about how to sneak up on a building without being seen. Maybe they need it to be night before their powers activate. Funny Leah is in charge when she's the least believable one there.

Daryl pretending to be a cat hiding behind a plant with that mailbox...no one can see you my friend. You're good.

Carver and Leah remind me of the evil version of Caryl and Daryl.

They obviously have something going on and/or had a thing in Daryl's abscence. All those "Always" remarks sound an awful lot like The Princess Bride's "As you wish".

Yup, Carver is uber jealous of Daryl. Leaver is setting sail ya'll.🚢

Carol strolling in to find Kelly stuck in the mud with her casual "need some help" is perfection. I actually lol'd.

AT is also SUCH and underrated and underutilized actress on this show, I need more Kelly on my screen because she needs to be protected like the sweet cinnamon role she is.

WTH is with this episode, they really out here trying to start a bunch of new ships or something? I'm down for Vonnie.

He's so into you, Connie. Who else is gonna keep talking to you knowing you can't hear them but needing to vocalize how much more important they see you to themselves.

Oh, come on...he's said her name in this ep more times than anyone has in the last season. He's trying to rival Daryl for saying Carol's name in s10.

So in case you're keeping track...we now have Vonnie and Leaver riding the crazy shipping seas.📃

Great... more posturing about who cares about Leah more.🤮 Carver you aren't getting it; Daryl's been phoning it in since Day 1, he's not a threat just wait it out and he'll audios up out of here to go find his fire queen back home.

Leah's even telling Daryl "stop pissing of my secret boyfriend okay?"

Note to everyone: a dancing phone line is the sign to run to the basement and not a sign of an overeager squirrel running across the line for his acorns.

So the jaundice family watched The Ring too many times and think this is how all the cool kids act in horror flicks. All they keep saying is 'hungry'; Connie, Virgil, someone get them a Mars bar and it'll be done.

A+ fight put up by Virgil. He's been taking some classes during the lockdowns to better himself.

The Reapers are HORRIBLE military folk. How do ya'll not see Maggie & co leaving when you have people on the perimeter for the sole purpose of finding runners?! Do not hire them. 1 star on Yelp.

Yup I'm all over Vonnie. That "together" stuff was by far the shippiest thing we've seen all season.

And their reunion hug through the walll .... guuurl.

walker guts trick again: the express version

why do I feel like they could do a mini spin off of just a little war going on between the walkers and those jaundice mo-fos? Then one of the walkers falls for a crawler girl but her family thinks he's from the wrong side of the yellow house and don't like how he thinks he's better because he's taller than all of them.

Kelly found Connie! So happy this storyline ended with the 2 people the arc was truly about; the 2 sisters finding each otherafter years of the show hating siblings.

Now can we finish with Carol's self-hatred stuff and let her heal? We know Daryl is gonna be finished with his "gotta save 'em all" issues soon so it would be fantastic if they could finally be on the same baggage free playing field. Just a thought Kang.

Overall I thought it was a good episode. Only a few things I would nitpick ie. limited Carol, cheesy music during some of the haunted house bits, and the reapers need to go back to basic training and learn some stuff and thangs.

Ofc the spoilers beforehand were blown way out of proportion though I'm not surprised. I didn't go in expecting to see what was foretold and thankfully the spirit Gods prevailed again in defeating the overreaction we go through EVERY episode.

So, what do you think now? Because you predicted what gonna happen about C0nnie and I didn't believed in you theory and am surprised but also worried. I am also so tired of this trolling with C0nnie and am afraid that Kang trying to tell us that Carol doesn't love Daryl that way 😔

Okay my friend, I forwent watching His Dark Materials with hubby for this, and he’s not chuffed so... let’s get on with this. :D

Kang has ALREADY told us that Carol does love Daryl that way, in Carol’s dream. It’s clear that happened when it did, at the start of this arc with Connie, Daryl and Carol, to show us Carol’s inner feelings. I said at the time, that dream scene was HUGELY important. And this proves how much it is!

But let’s talk about why this is good for us and why D*nnie isn’t happening:

1) This really is the most important thing, and does kind of make everything else I’m about to say moot, but I’m doing to do it anyway. LR stopped filming around ep9/10. So either Connie is dead, or offscreen for most of the rest of the season.

Again, go back to Norman’s words about it being right, being one and done, they have to take their time and make sure it fits Daryl. Therefor there is no way that Daryl’s one BIG love story is going to happen, start to finish over 3 episodes. 

That said, it’s not the main reasons I think D isn’t happening. That’s merely a side issue for me. And I would honestly prefer is Connie lived and stuck around for many reasons.

Edited to add: i’ve seen people saying Connie could just be offscreen injured and thus comes back in s11 for the big romance. But here’s the thing. LR is off because she is in a MASSIVE Marvel movie, chances are she’ll be in more. Are they going to have Daryl’s one big forever love be someone who is off screen for most of the season repeatedly? Or will leave in 2 seasons.

Also, to be honest, LR’s stand-in made it pretty clear LR was done with the show.

2) Again, this is ep 6. This is EARLY in the season, you don’t play out your BIG romance story this early. If this was building to D, we already know Connie likes Daryl, we have Carol pushing him towards Connie, all that’s left is Daryl doing the do and making a move. And then, that’s it? That’s the big love story played out and settled by ep 8? Seems unlikely. ESPECIALLY when you consider Kang said Carol and Daryl’s relationship is the heart of this season, and Norman said the stuff with Caryl plays out through the season. So, we’re not done with this story. Not by a long shot.

3) Cast your mind back to the start of s9, when it was revealed by Kang and others that Carol and Zeke were together and engaged/married. They talked about that stuff with ease. Now, look at the quotes I have posted several times - Kang says she can’t say too much, but the audience and characters are in the same place when it comes to Connie and Daryl. That’s fairly revealing - enough for me to guess how it was going to play out, at least.  

You don’t spill the romance that is the big thing for the season before the season starts. 

4) This for me is one of the most pivotal things in how this is all going to unfold - Daryl’s dream. The spoiler from Skybound’s Johnny which STRONGLY hinted we’d get Daryl’s dream too. 

Now, were D*nnie happening, why would we need to see inside Daryl’s mind? He’s got the green light form all corners, just go for it, right?

The fact we’re going to us he’s inner thoughts/desires tells us it’s going to reveal something “surprising” or not what we see on the outside.

And that’s the same reason we saw Carol’s dream. They are showing us that what they are professing to feel on the outside is NOT what’s going on in their heart and minds. 

I predict we will see a Daryl dream in ep 7 or 8, that will reveal what he’s not saying - that he has feelings for Carol.

5) EVen what Carol SAYS to Daryl is telling us EXACTLY that this is about their true feelings for each other. 

She’s telling him there aren’t many good people around anymore - she is 100% not including herself. She doesn’t think she’s good. And certainly not good enough for him. She thinks Daryl needs someone - and she’s right, he needs her. He literally said that in ep 1!

She also point out Daryl is doing his own version of running away - hiding away with Dog. They are both running away, hiding away, from a lot of stuff but largely their feelings for each other.

What Daryl needs is Carol to stop running away, and Carol needs Daryl to be open to her about his feelings. They both need to truly deal with their inner fears, and that means facing them with each other.

6) Daryl is lying to Carol about Zeke. He says the King sends his love. We know he didn’t. That scene last week was important. Daryl is trying to see if there’s something there with Carol and Zeke, shouldn’t they be together? Didn’t Zeke make Carol happy? He’s confused and as scared as Carol is. He is worried she’s going to go back to Zeke, so he’s afraid to feel for her. and he’s testing the water, just like she is.

I’m sure there’s other stuff I’m not thinking of right now, but as I said this has played out EXACTLY as I thought it would. The next revelation will  be what’s in Daryl’s heart. And THEN we can take the next step to canon. 

I don’t know how long that will take to all unfold, but I would say we’ll get Daryl’s dream in the next 2 episodes. And we do get our hug in the MSF, when we know Connie, Kelly and Carol are in the same group with Daryl and SOMETHING could be said, or happen.

We start off with Lyna and Carissa watching Iris and Auriana practice when Talia comes in and says that she has found the spell book of Abazel for Iris’ training. Carissa asks if Talia would teach her some spells too but Talia isn’t sure that she is ready because they are complicated spells. Lyna points out that Carissa isn’t very patient and never took the time perfect her defensive spells against her crystal levitus spell and Talia says she is right and that it is more important to master the spells you already know than to learn new ones.

We then see Carissa (and Amaru) in the magic library looking for a spell book. She finds one and tries out a spell called “Crystal Luminis” and it makes a crystal ball that flies to the center of the room. She keeps looking and finds a spell called “Crystal Multiplicatus” that should multiply the strength of everyone’s spells. She does it wrong the first time and it doesn’t do anything but she tries again on the ball and it splits into three.

She decides to try it again since it didn’t do what it was suppose to and she accidentally hits Amaru and it splits him into three. A red one which is always angry and destructive, a white one which is always super shy and a blue one which is always hungry. The red one manages to open up the door into the house and the other two follow getting away just as Carissa finds a counter spell.

At the twins’ cave they watch the 3 Amarus leave the girls’ house and Praxina gets an idea. At the park, Carissa rushes over to the other girls having a picnic and tells them that something terrible has happened so they all go back to the magic library and she tells them what happened. They figure that she probably cast it wrong and Talia reminds them that spells aren’t just about the words but focus too. Talia then says that if they wait too long the 3 Amarus will disappear. We then see the twins looking around an abandoned warehouse where they find the angry red one and Praxina thinks that they should teach him to destroy the princesses.

Back at the magic library, they do a location spell on Amaru’s toy and they see the red one at the warehouse with the twins and the blue one at the smoothie bar but Iris isn’t sure where the white one is, but Carissa does. Talia decides that they should split up, and she has Lyna go after the blue one and Carissa go after the white one while her, Iris and Auriana go after the red one. Back at the warehouse, Mephisto tries to tame the red Amaru but it attacks him instead. Praxina casts a spell on him and it gets him angry at the princesses. At the smoothie bar, Lyna finds the blue Amaru on the counter eating everything. She picks him up but as they are leaving, he jumps out of her arms and runs away.

Outside the museum, Carissa finds the white Amaru hiding behind some bushes. She tries to grab him but he runs away and goes inside the museum. She finds him just as our old friend the museum security guard makes them leave.

In the city, Lyna finds the blue Amaru going into a sweets shop and finally grabs him. We then see Iris, Talia and Auriana at the warehouse where the twins and the red Amaru attack them. They transform and Iris tries to attack back, but they all get trapped in black crystal. Carissa shows up and the red Amaru takes the white Amaru from her grasp. She transforms and tries to hit the twins with her clubs but she misses. Talia tells her that she has to do the spell just as Lyna shows up with the blue Amaru and takes out the twins for her.

The blue Amaru gets away and joins the other two while Carissa tries to do the spell, but it doesn’t work. Lyna says that she will take care of the twins while she tries again. Carissa is concerned because it didn’t work the first time she did it, but Talia says that she has to do it because she was the one who split them up and they tell her that she can do it. Lyna frees Iris, Talia and Auriana and Iris says that she and Talia will take care of the twins while Auriana and Lyna take care of the red Amaru and Carissa does the spell. Carissa focuses on the 3 Amarus and does the spell correctly this time and saves Amaru.

She also is able to do the Crystal Multiplicatus spell and boosts everyone’s powers as they do the Crystal Quinta spell to blast the twins away.

Thoughts

I liked this episode a lot. (It is in my top ten :P ) It was a lot of fun and we got to see Carissa in the spotlight, saving the day and learning her lesson. (Unlike her green haired friend... -_- ) We learned that Carissa loves to learn new spells, but doesn’t have the patience to master them.

It’s quite common to do the whole “someone gets split into several different people” trope but I thought it was nice a nice twist to see it done on Amaru instead of one of the girls. They could really focus on exaggerating each of Amaru’s personalities.

One of the things that I don’t really get is why Mephisto calls Carissa an amateur. I know she is new to the Lolirock group, but are we forgetting:

She has been training her whole life?!? If anyone is an amateur it’s Iris, and don’t get my wrong, I don’t mind the fact that she can do a lot of magic and is really good at it despite being new to it, but I’m not a fan of them putting down the other princesses who do have experience. Carissa is new, to the group. But she also grew up with magic and has been trained for most of her life on Calix and by the powerhouse that is Izira. She is anything but an amateur.

Other than Carissa, Lyna actually got some attention this episode too. I’m so proud of her, taking out the twins. (Twice) ♫

It’s always great to see the museum security guard guy again. This makes 2 out his 3 appearances in this season, which is more times than Doug. (I’m kinda surprised that he still doesn’t have a name since he appears quite a bit...)

Overall, I enjoyed this episode. Lots of fun and a must see for any Carissa fan.
