Hello. I watched the show the haunting of hill house on Netflix recently. And I am really impressed with Oliver Jackson-cohen and then I remember he was a popular fancast for moonknight. he lowkey looks like Smallwood's MK and he's a great actor and he's Jewish. What are your thoughts on him as Moon knight?do you think he can do better than Oscar Isaac? Most of comic mk fans who doesn't like the mk show prefers him than Oscar isaac.

So I have not watched Haunting of Hill House and know nothing of Oliver Jackson-Cohen except what I just looked up. He looks alright. I'm sure he's amazing.

When they announced Oscar Isaac, I was skeptical because I only knew him from Star Wars as Poe, which I enjoyed very much, but I didn't know the man's range.

I've mentioned many times that I am always skeptical of any Moon Knight media until I can take it in for myself (Marvel has hurt me far too many times).

I think for the story they told, Oscar did an outstanding job and his need to do his own research and advocate for certain groups was amazing.

I am… Mildly... miffed that Marvel has put Oscar in other roles. (Don't get me wrong. I adore him as Spider-man 2099 Miguel. And he was in that role first before he was Moon Knight). What annoys me about it is that the re-use of an actor is taking away from someone else of that culture to get exposure, work, and representation.

Oscar Isaac is of mixed Latino descent and fits the Latino Miguel role nicely. He can use his accent and his Spanish! Full love!

Now, here's the problem. Was Marvel going to cast someone Jewish to play Moon Knight?

Did they cast someone Jewish to play Magneto? What about Billy Maximoff?

What about upcoming Ben Grimm? Arguably THE most Jewish Marvel character they have?

Ebon Moss-Bachrach is an American Jewish actor from New York (I am not going to get into any patrial lineal arguments). Baruch Hashem! It can be done!

They gave a Jewish role to a Jewish actor. THE most Jewish character they have (I'm not going to argue about Magneto here but I feel like Ben Grimm and Magneto are their own different sides to the same coin. ask me more about that later).

I feel like Marvel bit off a lot of attempted representation with Moon Knight and jumped in half cocked.

Grief stricken, Traumatized, PTSD former soldier, D.I.D,, Jewish, Avatar to an Egyptian Moon God, Autistic, anger management problem… I'm sure I'm missing a few…

If they gave this role to a Jewish Actor, it would have been purely by accident.

Moon Knight was SO underrated in the Marvel universe I just about had a heart attack when they said they were going to give him a live action series!

So now they had to take a VERY unknown character who has a history of being seen as "The Crazy face ripping off Egptian God Worshiping guy" and make people want to watch the show. People who probably didn't even read the comics as well as die hard comic fans.

How do you do that? You give them a well known and well liked Actor who will draw people in just to see that actor.

And it worked.

The number of people that started watching the show who had never done ANYTHING Marvel before SPIKED thanks to Oscar. It was a VERY smart play.

What I am VERY happy they didn't do? Cast some white guy.

Oscar Isaac's casting opened up the possibility of Sephardic Moon Knight. Comic Moon Knight is VERY Ashkenazi jewish Orthodox. Up until this point, there were people who had no idea that there were other types of Jews! Hispanic Jews? Whhhhaaaaat?!

I think that is an amazing conversation to have! And man I wish they had explored THAT prospect! Make my Moon Knight Sephardic! Heck yeah! See my boys getting down to Ladino music! A little Salsa in the club and a little gefilte fish veracruzana on Friday night!

So, yes... we could have had more comic accurate Moon Knight... But is it more important to get a guy that looks like the character or someone that can play the character and open new doors?

I would love to see Ladino Jake. The sass. The attitude. The swears.

But back to the original question: Moon Knight played by an actual Jewish Actor. I'd love to see it. Again, I don't know anything about Oliver, but I'm not a comic purist and don't need the characters to LOOK like the characters. As long as they can show up and make me believe they are the character, I'm happy.

Did you know they invented Marvel Ultimate because of Sam Jackson? White Nick Fury was so ingrained and popular in 616 that when Sam Jackson got the role, and was GOOD at it, they immediately went "How do we marry the comics with MCU so we can have Sam Jackson comics without going "Ignore all that white guy stuff"?!? And now we have Marvel Ultimate Universe.

I plan to watch the Haunting series someday (I started the other one but had to stop because life happened and I never got back to it), so maybe I'll be sad they didn't cast Oliver. But I'm not sure his role would have fit in with the style of what the show was trying to do. Maybe if they had put out a Moon Knight movie, it would have needed a different guy.

hello tumblr i present my canon-compliant "DSMP But... Everybody Discovered Large-Scale Organised Religion" mianite au which took a few hours to write up oops. basically here is a list of which god everybody would follow and why, based on canon events (i have therefore left out a couple of the members who don't really do lore or be on the server much because i definitely don't know about them enough to be accurate!)

dream: mianite. obsessed with control, you get it. went too far though and developed his own obsession with controlling the server so he is now godless and in jail

tommy: dianite. tommy is a favourite of dianite's - he's idealistic with a penchant for chaos, and like i said in my other post dianite probably sees himself in tommy a little. they're both misunderstood as Bad People

tubbo: ianite -> dianite, he converts post-doomsday. grew up as a follower of ianite and trying to follow her path put added pressure on him during his presidency. embraces being a dianitee with the start of the nuke program, but he keeps all his ianitee family heirlooms. ianite still holds a soft spot for him because of his family and occasionally gives him minor blessings. that being said she's of course a little disappointed he chose to change gods, but respects his decision

ranboo: no god, but enderwalk ranboo is an acolyte of ianite; awakeboo eventually converts to ianite when he reads awakeboo's note and decides to become more active in conflict resolution. he realises ianite actually aligns with his newfound ideals, and is of course more in touch with his ender side. however prior to this he wasn't really very keen on worshipping any gods, seeing as all he saw from them was wars waged in their names.

wilbur: also an atheist. probably prayed to dianite during pogtopia ("dream, i want to be your vassal" type beat) but other than that he's the type to criticise organised religion and be an independent leader, no need for gods. wilbur and ranboo narrative foils my beloveds!!!

techno: ianite. the thing about c!techno is he has one goal and he will stick to that no matter what - it's not total order, but it's not chaos either because there is motivation and reasoning behind it. also, a core tenet of ianitee ideology is not involving yourself in conflict until somebody personally wrongs you. much like butcher army era techno where he retreats to a peaceful (more godly, in this case) life until he's hunted down, at which point he Fucks Shit Up. in general techno holds grudges and takes even slight betrayals very seriously.

phil: ianite. i can see antarctic duo as former warriors of ianite! idk i don't have much to say phil is just.. a chill old warrior. probably jaded and tired of fighting wars for his goddess, but he still prays to her. specifically he prayed every night that wilbur could finally find balance in the afterlife. :)

niki: also ianite. definitely. niki values her own beliefs and morals, she's her own independent self. maybe she was a mianitee pre-nov 16th, but not since then. this makes the syndicate pretty much just a secret squad of ianitees (+ ranboo who everyone kind of just assumes is an ianitee given that, yknow, enderman). this is extra fun with the syndicate table being an end portal

sam: mianite 10000000%. he puts his commitment to duty above all else. not really much more to say he is just fully committed to keeping the server safe by carrying out mianite's will and imprisoning dream.

foolish: he's a god himself, so he doesn't follow any of the main three. however in the past he did work with mianite, enforcing his control over the land. from what we know about his totem of death period it wasn't like.. wanton destruction, it was him seeking control through violence, so i'm not inclined to say he worked with dianite back then.

george: man just wants to sleep and farm wheat, he's mianite. ez.

sapnap: also mianite. dream team as mianite's strongest and most revered knights!!!!!!

puffy: she's a pirate lady i don't know what to tell you other than she was part of capsize's crew. ianitee pirate ladies i care you. plus i feel like puffy centres mostly on people and not allying herself with specific nations or causes, she believes in balance above all.

eret: i view the greater dsmp as a mianitee nation, so as king of it they obviously have to follow mianite. eret has always strove to be a good king and help their nation prosper. plus, who knows what went on in the past with foolish. former mianite warriors eternal duo? i think so! (i think it would be cool if a literal reincarnation of herobrine was a mianitee purely because it fucks with everybody's expectations)

quackity: dianite. not just because he's chaos incarnate at times but like his entire current arc is so reminiscent of the fact that s2 dianite was literally a businessman. rip ghost dianite you would've loved c!quackity

fundy: oh boy here's a complex one. fundy switches gods frequently - look how much he craves acceptance from authority figures, from a substitute parental figure. i think right now his prophetic dreams could be interpreted as him being chosen by a certain god who sees potential in him, but i can't say who bc we don't really know too much about them or even why he's suddenly having them. that being said his chaotic scamming foxboy side definitely embodies dianite and he should have stuck with dianite the entire time but nah he needs Validation

jack manifold: follows dianite, but dianite isn't really pleased with him trying to kill tommy so often (seeing as he likes tommy). this is why he has such comically bad luck. his god is continually fucking with him.

karl: ianite, specifically chosen by her to become the historian of the server. the purple theme.. the duty to write down history as it truly happened (as opposed to censoring history like a certain mianite did). the existence of both the in between and the other side. karl Is balance. thank you. (also this makes karlnapity's marriage one mianitee, one ianitee and one dianitee. diversity win!)

bbh: dianite at first, judging by the badlands' ideology. corrupted by the darkness though.

hannah: mianite - her connection to nature is by extension also a connection to mianite, the god of the overworld. plus she cared about maintaining harmony on the server and went to lengths to ensure it like the whole "killing her own dogs to protect them" thing. currently on her corrupted girlboss arc though

punz: dianite, he likes money and killing people idk what more you expect from me. even after joining the eggpire this has not changed at all. he'll work for other gods' followers for the right price but he's not changing his core beliefs

ponk: i don't know very much about him i'm ngl, especially not pre-eggpire. prior to his corruption though i do kinda like the idea of a mianitee doctor doing fucked up little experiments idk he just has mianitee vibes to me in the same way tucker was a mianitee.

skeppy: he and bbh are obviously both dianite together prior to the egg. it simply would not be right of me to put him anywhere else.

purpled: ianite. the colour purple... the tendency to stay so far out of conflict that he doesn't even log onto the server... mans was born to be an ianitee actually

-I know the 'creepy abandoned hospital on the edge of town' is a joke and the creepy hospital trope is so Worn Out, but in my town we actually DO have a hospital like that! my dad was born in it, but its not in use and hasn't been for, like, 20 years! it needs to be torn down but I think the city doesn't wanna pay the money. the inside is horrible, spray painted and broken glass and shit everywhere. but there's still like, rusty equipment and fucking DOLLS all over the place. the cops drive by it pretty frequently to make sure no one is like, breaking in. (because of water damage, some of the areas really aren't safe. also, asbestos, but people still go in anyway) but also, some of my town was used in a filming for a stephen king show. So it's lowkey spooky all over. just a fun personal tidbit :) to lead into saying, any hospital abandoned for any period of time is NOT safe to quarantine these kids in JKSAHDKF like I KNOW it's a ghost trying to do this, but NONE of these parents are even like, 'well, why dont we keep them in the regular, working hospital'....YIKES. this hospital looks pretty accurate to the one in town. grungy and spooky.

I had this fic idea where: Calla, Haegon, their mother and youngest siblings didn't escape and they were taken as hostages in the Red Keep. Calla kind of ends up "playing the game" and trying to forge a better life for her mom and siblings while trying to overcome her trauma of losing her brothers and dead, her anxiety over Daemon II not being around and not having any contact with him and Haegon most likely going to the faith. And she also has survivors guilt. Basically this is a "Calla plays the game while trying to survive" (this includes her glaring at BR and lowkey planning his death, finding Matarys endearing because he's actually fairly nice and so is his brother/dad, she also looks like her mom. OH AND SHE DYES HER HAIR QUITE OFTEN)

We see Da3ron II took lands and hostages from those who knelt; Lord Bracken’s son died during the Great Spring Sickness, perhaps as a hostage in King’s Landing; Eustace Osgrey’s daughter and only heir Alysanne was sent to the Silent Sisters at age 7, while Standfast went from a prominent lordly house to one of landed knights. Daemon’s lands and titles were likely under attainder, being of fairly recent creation. In Westeros, killing (mostly male heirs) or sending to the Faith (more likely female heirs) the child rivals to one’s lordly power seems to be the norm (most infamously Aegon and Rhaenys Targaryen on Tywin’s orders, but also Cerelle Lannister by her uncle Gerold, Rohanne and Cerelle Tarbeck were sent to the Silent Sisters and Rohanne’s young son was likely murdered during the Reyne Rebellion, the extermination of Houses Darklyn and Hollard bar one after the Defiance of Duskendale). So I tried to look at examples from medieval history to see if I could save the younger Blackfyre boys:

As much grief as I give GRRM for not being historically accurate while claiming he’s true to life, the gendered fate of young male and female rivals who were captured seems to pass muster: with boys usually being killed or “disappeared” (Arthur of Brittany was imprisoned then murdered by his uncle King John of England, the Princes in the Tower mysteriously vanished with the prime suspect as their uncle Richard III) and girls either imprisoned (Arthur’s sister Eleanor was imprisoned for 44 years until her death by her uncle John and cousin Henry), forced into a convent (Gwenllian Princess of Wales by Edward I, Joanna la Beltraneja was given a choice between this or marrying her infant cousin Juan by his mother Isabella of Castile), or married to steal their lands/unite claims (Arthur’s mother Constance was betrothed to his father from age 5 after her brother was forcibly disinherited from the duchy of Brittany, and I’m still not sure what happened to him; Eleanor de Montfort was eventually married to Llewellyn of Wales after she was captured and imprisoned by the English). 

I think the best hope for the Blackfyre boys is for them be rescued and taken to Tyrosh (although Bl00draven would probably try to separate them to prevent all of them taken at once). 

A longer-term option is for Rohanne’s relatives in Tyrosh to try to negotiate their release, probably with a solemn oath never to return to Westeros (happened with the Charles VII’s cousin Charles Duke of Orleans who spent 25 years in various English prisons after his capture by the English at Agincourt until his old rivals the Burgundians negotiated his release; Amaury de Montfort, despite having taken holy vows, was captured along with his sister Eleanor and only by swearing never to return to England and the Pope plus Llewellyn intervening was he released).

Failing that, maybe Baelor Breakspear could try to go ‘the Dontos Hollard route’, asking for clemency out of the boys’ age/birth, and sending them to King’s Landing as squires, and probably make sure they don’t return to their old lands. I doubt they’d be allowed to wed, but I suppose Rohanne could petition for a restoration of Daemon’s old lands to House Blackfyre (as Anne Scott managed to save her lands from her husband Duke James’ attainder after the Monmouth rebellion, and her two surviving sons by him were able to marry and inherit and were loyal to the crown), and they could be wed into a loyal Red house of Da3ron’s choosing; it’d be her grandchildren inheriting these lands (Elizabeth I imprisoned her cousin Katherine Grey for the rest of her life for secretly marrying and had her separated from her two sons, but they were allowed to marry and her grandson became the next Duke of Somerset, despite his family reputation). Not Daemon II if he’s been captured with the others, but possibly Aenys. I’m not saying this is a likely scenario considering the characterization of Bl00draven and the actions of Da3ron II to the other children of rebels, but it’s a kinder solution that maybe Baelor might come up with.

I don’t imagine that these boys will be sent to the Faith, but rather the Night’s Watch seems to be the place for defeated rebels/men sentenced to death; so in all likelihood at least the elder ones could be sent to the Night’s Watch once they’re old enough. Westeros as well as medieval history has shown how easy it could be to take someone from a convent/monastery and use them to take their lands/incite a rebellion (Robar abducting Rhaella from the Faith; Marie of Boulogne was abducted from her convent by Matthew of Alsace to forcibly marry him to steal her lands), plus these vows can be undone (at least in medieval Italy, where sometimes cardinals had to leave the Church to get married to continue their family line; it’s implied in the sentences of Lucinda and Priscella that septas can break their vows) so I think at least the elder ones would not be allowed.

The Blackfyre girls have a higher chance of not being murdered. The worst case-scenario that I could unfortunately see happening is sending them to the Silent Sisters along with poor Alysanne Osgrey, which seems to happen to the most dangerous of noblewomen (rebel queen Marla Sunderland, sasser-of-kings Maris Baratheon, Ellyn Reyne’s daughters Rohanne and Cerelle), all potential heiresses for another rebellion (not likely with so many brothers, but if they manage to escape and another uprising coalesces around them who knows). Another option would be to the Faith to be septas, which happened to more minor noblewomen men wanted out of the way (Rhaella and Megette’s daughters for their “inconvenient birth”, Lucinda Penrose and Priscella Hogg for their roles in the plot to kill Daenaera). 

A particularly painful scenario would be confining them in the Maidenvault until/if a new king decides to release them as their grandmother Daena was. Considering that the next king is Aerys, I doubt they would be released (like Eleanor of Brittany) or marry

It seems not uncommon in Westeros for an ambitious man to marry an heiress of the previous ruler to become suo jure lord of her lands (Tyrek Lannister’s marriage to the infant Lady Ermesande Hayford, Dickon Tarly’s marriage to Eleanor Mooton, Lancel’s marriage to Amerei Frey to steal Darry, and most famously Orys Baratheon’s forcible marriage to Argella Durrandon). The problem with doing this in regards to the Blackfyre girls is that considering their father’s lands are probably under attainder, they don’t have lands to inherit, much less a dowry. Of course, Rohanne could try to petition for a creation of new lands, possibly in exchange for giving up their claim to the throne (Princess Renee of France gave up her claim to the duchy of Brittany in exchange for being made duchess of Chartres by King Francis I, so she could finally be allowed to marry). Another idea would be to send them abroad for matches to Essosi cities the Reds have ties to, such as Lys and Pentos. In a happy scenario, the Blackfyre girls were allowed to marry with permission; to show that Da3ron is serious about healing the realm, he or Baelor could betrothe Calla and Matarys (not expected to inherit the throne; your prompt said they were getting along!). What happens after his death in the Great Spring Sickness is anyone’s guess.

In the edgy scenario, the girls marry without permission, possibly to a Velaryon descendant of Baela’s (just going by my theory of at least some Velaryons as Blackfyre supporters); it seems in medieval England that some potential female claimants to the crown did marry secretly to men with more distant claims (Lady Katherine Grey as mentioned before, but also Lady Arabella Stuart two generations later, to Grey’s own grandson), thus frustrating the desires of their monarchs to marry them abroad. Sometimes they were able to escape their captors and raise their children in exile, eventually allowed to return to their home country; the most famous of these was Margaret Beaufort and her son Henry, who later won the English throne by right of conquest with weak dynastic claim.

A lot of these scenarios ignore the canonical cruelty of Bl00draven and the vindictiveness of Da3ron with regards to the Blackfyres and their supporters; I don’t imagine that they would show mercy to the defeated rebels, and warsofasoiaf’s scenario that they would all be secretly murdered is definitely a possibility. They also ignore Rohanne’s characterization (such that it is) of a take-charge noblewoman who was in my opinion unquestionably a pro-Blackfyre rebel that used her money and influence in Tyrosh to provide a home for the exiles and orchestrated their escape (the idea that Aegor Rivers helped Rohanne escape to her own country seems to diminish her achievements); I don’t think she would be asking the Targaryens for any favors, considering in canon she knew them well enough that she preferred to flee than surrender to the House that gave Bl00draven high office. Barring the “Bl00draven kills them all” scenario, I don’t think she would be executed due to her sex and that she’s from foreign nobility (especially if her male relative was still Archon), but we have no idea if the Faith is an option for her (did she convert? Considering the characterization of GRRM’s other Essosi women as holding to their homeland’s traditions, I doubt it); it’s likely to me she would be separated from her children, who would be governed by Red supporters (maybe if Rhaena is still alive, she could coach the girls?), an emotionally hard punishment for her (considering all of her canonical actions involve her children, it seems she loved them very much). It’s possible she might be sent back to Tyrosh as a gesture of goodwill to her family, after some years of confinement; or she could be sent to a remote location, like Cassandra Baratheon upon a forced marriage to Walter Brownhill.

tl;dr If the Blackfyres and Rohanne aren’t going to be murdered after being captured: the boys would likely go to the Night’s Watch once old enough, or imprisoned in the Red Keep and married under ideal conditions; the girls might go to the Faith, imprisoned in the Maidenvault, married off to non-Tyroshi Essosi, or secretly married; Rohanne would likely be briefly imprisoned, separated from her children, and either sent to the remote countryside or Tyrosh. What happens to them depends on how merciful the Reds are feeling, and how much of a risk they deem them to be. Just expect that if someone leads a rebellion in their name, for the boys to die.

Masterlist

     Your keys jingled in the lock of the store. It was too damn early in the morning for this, but bills weren’t made to pay themselves. Finally, the key twisted in the lock and pushed through the door, switching the closed sign to open. With a heavy sigh you dropped your bag behind the counter and began to sort through the new shipment that arrived the previous night.

     A gasp left your lips once your eyes settled upon the latest issue of your favorite manga. Placing it in a new pile, you decided you’d save it for later as you still had a lot more sorting to do.

     Right as you placed the final book on the shelf, the sound of an opening door broke the silence. You rushed to the store’s front and sat behind the counter to greet the customer.

     “Good morning! Is there anything I can help you with?” You greeted before looking at the man before you, a slight flush crossing your face as you saw the Adonis that stood in front of you. His brown hair was swept lazily to the side and his hands were tucked deep into the pockets of his black pants. You cleared your head to focus on the job at hand.

     “Um, yea, do you know where the Tokyo Ghoul books are located?”

     “Yes, they’re right over there,” you pointed to your right, “We just got the latest issue in today actually! Which issue are you looking for?”

     “Oh, well…” “Have you gotten to the part where Kaneki is taken,” you cut yourself off there, not wanting to spoil the plot point if he hadn’t reached it yet.

     “Actually, I think I’ll just take the latest issue, if that’s okay.”

     “Oh yea, totally.”

     His curt reply caught you slightly off guard as he slipped to the back of the store, leaving you to fiddle with the cash register. The silence was stifling as you tried to brainstorm the right thing to say.

     “So what first got you interested in Tokyo Ghoul?” You mentally kicked yourself for the lame excuse of a conversation starter, your brainstorm session quickly ending out of desperation to talk with him.

     “Oh, well, I just kind of picked it up one day.”

     “That’s cool! What has been your favorite part so far?”

     “Um…I really can’t decide, I like it all so much.” He shrugged while placing the book on the counter.

     “Will that be all?”

     “Yes, thank you so much!”

     “We’ll be getting a new shipment of a variety of manga next week if you want to come check them out?”

     “Cool! I’ll see you then!” The door fell heavy behind him as you let out a heavy breath. Well, you definitely just screwed yourself over with that one.

     It had been nearly two weeks and there was still no sign of the handsome Tokyo Ghoul fan. At this point you had practically given up all hope, although there wasn’t much to begin with. Even so there was still a small wishful glimmer that he may one day walk through your doors again. Each time the door opened you couldn’t help but look up at the off chance it might be him.

     You were finishing up some paperwork when the door opened. You glanced up only to see a man in his mid-thirties scanning the store until his eyes landed on you. His previously expressionless face turned into one of disgust.

     “What’s a girl like you doing working in a comic book shop?” He snorted in disapproval.

     “Well, I needed a job and I like comic books, so when I saw this place was hiring—”

     “You like comic books,” he cut you off with a laugh, “What would a girl even know about quality books? You probably just sit around reading your ‘senpai’ manga.” You clenched your fists in anger at his accusations. This wasn’t the first time some old, entitled man who probably still lived with his mother tried to “put you in your place”. Every time you became more and more aggravated.

     “Actually, I don’t mind reading what you might call ‘senpai’ manga, but I’m also interested in other series such as Black Butler, and Tokyo Ghoul, and—”

     “Oh yea? Well if you’re such a big fan then what happened in issue three of Black Butler page 36 panel 4?”

     “Excuse me?” You said with a laugh, “Wow, you really must have nothing to do if you know that.” His face turned red in anger and his jaw clenched.

     “What kind of customer service is this? I did not come here to be ridiculed by some little girl!”

     “I’m sorry sir but you are the one who came in here questioning my credibility.”

     “Listen here.” He marched towards you. You had many of these arguments before, but never had they escalated to this magnitude. Your heart began to race, not knowing what this man could do next. “I didn’t come in here for some dumb, little bitch who thinks they’re better than me—”

     “I’m sorry, is everything okay?” The front door opened to reveal your handsome knight in shining armor.

     “Yes, I was trying to explain to this lovely customer that old men aren’t the only ones allowed to read and enjoy comic books.” You sent a glare towards the old man, “In fact, he was just about to leave.”

     A heavy huff left the man as he sent you one final gift in the form of his middle finger. The door shut swiftly behind him restoring the store to its peaceful atmosphere. Remembering the other person standing in the store you turned to face him.

     “Sorry about that, was there anything I could help you with?”

     “Oh, yes actually. I was wondering if you have any suggestions of what to read. I’m not really the biggest comic book fan.”

     “Of course! You like Tokyo Ghoul so maybe something similar to that? How did you end up liking the latest issue? I was finally able to finish it the other day; it had quite the twist at the end, didn’t it?”

     “Well, um, funny story – “

     “I know! I started a new series last week and it’s kind of lie Tokyo Ghoul in a sense. Follow me, I can show you where it’s located.” You beckoned him to follow you before weaving through the maze of shelves. Although the store was relatively small, the owner managed to pack in shelves upon shelves, there were even some books stacked along the floor when shelf space ran out. You carefully edged around a pile of books only to hear a crash come from behind you. You turned to see the male previously following you bent over a mess of books.

     “I’m so sorry, I really tried to avoid them I’m just…notoriously clumsy. Just ask my friends they can back me up on this –“

     You cut him off with a small laugh.

     “That’s quite all right – you know, I never actually got your name.”

     “Ah, right, I’m Mingyu.”

     “And I’m y/n, it’s nice to officially meet you Mingyu. Don’t worry about those books, I can sort them out later.”

     “Are you sure, I don’t want to cause you any more trouble than I already     have.”

     “Really Mingyu, it’s fine.”

     You continued walking and he followed reluctantly behind. Stopping in front of the series you pulled the first issue off the shelf and handed it to him.

      “Here you go, this is the first issue but feel free to grab more! I’ll be at the front if you need anything.”

     It only took Mingyu a few minutes to follow you back to the cashier and make his purchase. You couldn’t help but wonder if a friendship would be able to bloom between the two of you.

     Over the next few months Mingyu would stop by the store; sometimes to buy the latest issue, sometimes just to talk. It was all quite surreal for you, having such a handsome man become one of your closest friends. Every day you waited for him to walk through the door to tell you a funny anecdote about one of his friends or gush on about the latest manga he was reading. Your friendship seemed too good to last so you figured you should make the most out of it while you could.

     It was another boring day, most people too busy enjoying the sunny weather outside to come into your poorly air conditioned store. Just before you thought you were sure to die from boredom, Mingyu walked in, another equally attractive male following behind him. A wide smile spread across your face and he easily mirrored your expression.

     “Hey y/n! This is Wonwoo.”

     “Ah, you were wrong Mingyu, he doesn’t look that scary at all!”

     “Yah! What have you been saying about me Mingyu?” Wonwoo declared while smacking the back of Mingyu’s head. You just sat back and laughed, knowing that the bickering was all in good fun. After swatting away his friend’s hand Mingyu turned to you with a pout.

     “That was supposed to stay between the two of us y/n!”

     You could only laugh at his playful façade as Wonwoo looked between the two of you, clearly amused. He finally decided to speak up and put an end to the painfully obvious flirting.

     “You know it’s nice to finally meet you, Mingyu talks about you a lot. I still can’t believe you got him to start reading Tokyo Ghoul, I’d been begging him for months but he always refused.”

     Gears started to turn in your head as you slowly faced Mingyu. He stood stock still, simulating a deer caught in headlights. Completely unaware of the flood gates he had opened, Wonwoo merely closed his mouth and watched on in silence.

     “Well that doesn’t make sense,” you finally whispered, “Mingyu had already been reading Tokyo Ghoul when he first came in. He even bought the most recent issue; we had a whole conversation about it!”

     “Actually,” Mingyu cleared his throat, “most of that conversation was held by you, not that I minded!”

     “Mingyu, this wouldn’t happen to be the issue you bought for my birthday?” Wonwoo finally interjected.

     A heavy sigh left Mingyu as he realized the truth would have to come out now. His face began to heat up at the extreme embarrassment he was about to encounter. However, before he could speak up, you cut him off.

     “Mingyu, did you, did you lie about reading Tokyo Ghoul just so you could talk to me?”

     His head shout up immediately at your sudden, but nonetheless accurate, accusation as his face turned an even deeper shade of red. You stared on in amazement as he slowly shook his head, signifying a “yes”. Wonwoo’s laughter broke the silence, both you and Mingyu turnig to stare at him incredulously.

     “Oh man this is fucking great,” he breathed through fits of laughter, “I’m just going to go browse some of the shelves in the far back while you guys fix this mess up.” Wiping a few tears away, he walked as deep into the store as he could, leaving the two of you in a once again awkward silence. The electrical sound of fans whirring overhead and Wonwoo’s occasional shuffling were the only sounds to be heard in the store. Mingyu finally decided to bite the bullet and spoke up.

      “Listen, y/n, I know this as all really…weird, and you might be feeling slightly uncomfortable right now, but it’s true. When I first came into this store, I had no idea what Tokyo Ghoul was, I had merely come in to buy an issue for Wonwoo. But then I saw you sitting at the front desk and you started rambling on and on about the series and you just looked so cute I didn’t have the heart to tell you I had never even read the series and – “

     You cute him off with a soft laugh, “Mingyu, it’s more than ok. Honestly, I find this all quite flattering. Although that was a strange way to make friends, it was worth it, wasn’t it?”

      A broad smile spread across his face as he realized you weren’t about to throw him out of your store.

     “So, would it be too much to ask you on a date?”

     Your eyes widened at his sudden confession and his heart skipped a beat at the thought of rejection. Thankfully, your expression settle into one of happiness as you slowly shook your head yes. Wonwoo emerged from the shelves just as the two of you were exchanging phone numbers to plan your first of many dates. He merely rolled his eyes and placed a stack of books on your desk.

     “If you two are done here, I’d like to buy these please.”

     “Ok, you were right Mingyu, he is a little scary.”
