hi!! i was browsing through your books recs and I found so many new and great novels i've never heard of. where do you find all the titles you read, do you follow certain accounts on Tumblr (or elsewhere), or do you browse through book shops? thank you in advance!!

i answered something similar recently but in short it's recs from specific peple i trust + lithub + friends' gr updates + connected finds from my readings + random browsing online ! i don't usually pickup stuff from bookshop browsing bc i don't have the money so I usually have specific things i want to buy in mind when I go lol also for tumblr accs all my mutuals have great taste and the ones whose recs + readings i usually add to my tbr are @lovlettres @fluoresensitive @mossyshadows @librarycards @oldyears @serpentgirls @powm @sugarsugarunes 💐

im coming to your inbox to randomly talk about natsuyuu but i finished reading till the latest updated summaries and i have to say.... there's a lot to be unpacked. okay question - what's your favorite part of the worldbuilding in natsuyuu? and what would you like to see more in the upcoming chapters?

uh oh u caught me, i have something shameful 2 admit

natsuyuu is literally my all time favorite anime but i havent actually gotten very far in the manga ; - ; i was hoping to finally read it b4 u finished so i wldnt out myself but i got sidetracked lolol ok give me a week and i promise we can talk then! THAT BEING SAID! i do think its a really big shame that they changed so much of natsume's actual character, he's a lot rougher/more temperamental in the manga (also fun fact he likes punk street clothes which is.. THE FUNNIEST THING i'd love 2 see him dressed in a leather jacket and combat boots... midoirikawa sensei please.). also he looks a lot more like his grandfather (ehehe) in the manga too, idk why they changed his design 2 be so boring :( also nyanko-sensei is a truly hideous cat in the manga and i love that 4 him. like absolute evil gremlin animal, most untrustworthy cat to grace the earth.

but world building i love the magical realism of it. its a pretty common trope in anime/manga and there r plenty of similar stories (the works of yumeka sumomo have v similar vibes) but i think its just very seamless and incredibly well executed at midorikawa's hands, she absolutely knows what shes doing. mushishi is always compared 2 natsume and they're both INCREDIBLE but mushishi gives me a kind of left-of-center impression and its almost disarming, stepping half a foot into being horror without being genuinely scary. natsuyuu on the other hand, even in its most tense scenes, is an incredibly calming and and familiar world. the music helps to carry this across in the anime but its midorikawa's actual art itself that creates the sensation

as 4 something i wld like to see more !! i dont know if its ever addressed in the manga but in s5 they discuss natori and matoba's origins and in it is that kimono that changes appearance based on how powerful the exorcist's abilities are and i DESPERATELY want to know what natsume sees!! also i wld very much appreciate if we get more reiko backstory and the deets w her and madara bc like.... its obvious in the manga bc of how natsume looks but even in the s6 finale they hint at it. maybe these wishes have been fulfilled tho ahahaha oh well.

I love animated and claymation movies!! studio ghibli has some of the most beautiful animated movies of course. one of my favorite scenes is in only yesterday where they go through the process of harvesting and drying saffron flowers. Song of the sea is also v beautiful!! kubo and the two strings, coraline, frankenwennie, my life as a zucchini, etc. are so cool to me bc claymation is just such a process and so much goes into making the film. the boy and the beast, tokyo godfathers, wolf children are all good too!!

A BROTP I have with said character: i REALLY want to see more of him with shouko.... also not so much a brotp as like a family thing but him with the twins!!!! he seemed like such a good dad :’)))

A NOTP I have with said character: i’ve seen some people talk about him and mahito which is.... nope, absolutely NOT for me!!!!

A random headcanon: idk why but i feel as though he’s from up north/somewhere with a lot of snow.... also that he was one of the only sorcerers, if not the only sorcerer, in his home town/village 

General Opinion over said character: [banging pots and pans together] GIVE ME ORIGINAL GETOU OR GIVE ME DEATH!!!!!!!!!!! in all seriousness i find it super intriguing how his deep empathy was kind of the catalyst for his start of darkness, and i REALLY wish we had more information about his past/childhood (@gege PLEASE....) so that we could see how he came to formulate the ideals he held in hs in the first place....

1. what did you learn about yourself this year?

that i’m a lot more resilient than i thought i was, probably!! and that i’m also kind of a control freak??? kind of a mixed bag of revelations fjalkfjsdlkf

8. best book/book series of the year?

hmmmm not really sure if this is my best book that i read this year, or the book i enjoyed most that also came out this year.... just to be safe let me do both!! 

best book that came out this year: the mirror and the light by hilary mantel!! i actually grew up reading the wolf hall series and so this was a v personally nostalgic culmination for me :’)) kind of like the end of an era??

fave book that i read this year: exit west by mohsin hamid. literally not a day goes by where i don’t think about it... also a few honourable mentions: normal people by sally rooney (yeah....), the broken earth trilogy by n k jemisin (yeah!!!!) and wuthering heights (YEAH!!!!!!!)

9. best television series?

doing the same thing here!! also gnna cheat a little because i watch 

best tv series that came out this year: either bojack horseman (i know it was just the final season but shhhhh it counts) or the boys (lowkey trashy fun with one of THE most threatening villains i’ve seen like... ever). bonus points to jjk for propelling me STRAIGHT into the depths of stsg hell 

fave tv series that i watched this year: either haikyuu (yeah.... Yeah) or the untamed!! it might be b/c i’ve been watching both of them with @sky-scribbles and that’s always a blast heheheh

one time i had a vague dream about jonghyun, i couldn’t recall anything about it but i woke with a very pleasant feeling.  well the same day, I was hanging out with a friend under some trees.  I got up to show her something, and while we were talking some branches fell kinda where I had been lying??  my friend and i were both like, huh....o_0.  anyways the supernatural part is i kinda feel something was looking out for me that day.  not necessarily jjong cuz i don’t usually believe in stuff like that but that the dream was part of me having a good and safe day.

30. describe your ideal masquerade ball outfit (mask included).

idk like a black suit with red gloves and a red mask.  also im somehow a few inches taller, please and thank you.
