Watching him eat made you happier than it should have. He was a little messy; ate a little too fast. But he was content. He was warm. He was full. It felt good to contribute something to his fucked up existence, give him a night of peace and the care he deserved. 

Words cannot express how much I love the simple idea of Dean being fed -- Dean being cared for in a safe, warm, loving environment like this. What a lovely little drabble!

Your heart skipped when he walked in, cheeks ruddy from the chill, lips cracked from the dry weather. It was colder than usual that October, but the cold gave way to cozy, and you never minded that. 

Fresh from a drive across the country, Dean Winchester walked into your apartment, rubbing his hands together briskly and smiling your way. He was excited to see you, and the excitement grew as he took a deep breath. The warmth of fresh bread, braised meat, and cinnamon struck his senses and he sighed, happy for the first time in weeks.  

“You cooking for me, Y/N/N?”

Spinning away from the stove in your little kitchenette, you smiled. Your apron was askew and your face a perfectly sweaty mess. He’d never seen you look so beautiful. 

“Well, it’s not every day a handsome hunter graces my doorstep.” It was a teasing jab, but it was true. He’d been away for too long, nearly six months, and seeing him now made your heart swell. 

His smile fell just a bit. “I know. It’s been… it’s been a rough year.” 

“Isn’t it always?” 

He nodded and looked for solace in his boots. “Yeah, well-” 

“Let’s not talk shop tonight, huh?” 

The smile was back, the joy in his eyes shining. “Good plan.” 

You weren’t the best cook by far, but he ate happily and thankfully. 

Dean devoured half the loaf of slightly underdone bread you’d baked, a giant bowl of beef stew, and two slices of apple pie. He didn’t even mind that you’d accidentally dumped a good handful of red pepper flakes in the stew instead of a teaspoon of black pepper. He said he liked it spicy.

Supper turned to whiskey on the sofa, snuggled close scrolling Netflix. A random movie was picked, but Dean wasn’t paying any attention. He sipped his drink and kept his eyes on you, savoring the moment, memorizing your face, your smile, the feel of you. 

So warm in his arms, you held him close, keeping your arm firmly set across his stomach and your head on his chest.

The screen flickered and your mind raced with ideas. Maybe he needed a little more care…

Biting your lip, you decided to make a move, slowly slipping your hand down his soft belly towards his thighs, ready to warm him up even more. Just before your fingers landed, Dean let out a deep snore that rumbled through his chest. 

Looking up, you found him out cold, his freckled face relaxed, his plump lips slack and parted. With a sigh, you moved your hand back up to his chest and he stirred. His big hand closed over yours and he brought it up to his lips, laying a sweet kiss on your fingertips. 

“Thank you…” 

His whisper was tender, his breath slow and peaceful. He was so beautiful, floating back to a deep sleep there on your couch. Full and safe; happy. 

Your plans could wait.

So I accidentally muted this post and totally forgot about it. I made a grave error as many of you have pointed out lol, this is Cas looking at Sam in season 5. I had it misfiled and posted and it’s totally on me guys, my bad. I think it’s funny, and ya know maybe cas did think about it right after telling him his voice was grating and he was annoying. That’s on brand

Sometimes I remember that Dean and Cas would have little movie nights together just the two of them and I want to beat my skull in on the countertop because that’s such a darling detail that doesn’t add to the plot, it’s only purpose in being mentioned was to show how close they actually are outside of hunting
