Belated Birthday Fic for @jrob64
Joni (@jrob64) this is long overdue now, and probably not worth the waiting you've done for it, but I still wanted to give you the story I wrote for your birthday. It takes place in Season 2, after Emma leaves Hook on the beanstalk, but diverges in that Hook carches up with the Savior and the rest of the Princess squad again without Cora. There's some mentioned whump and I hope plenty of hurt/comfort (since you and I both enjoy that so! ;) And I hope you'll still like it, even though it's now well past your birthday. I am so glad we are friends and that this OTP and fandom lead us to meet and get to know each other!
“Consequences”
by: @snowbellewells
The logs and twigs they’d gathered for their campfire were crackling mightily, releasing occasional pops when sap ignited, but giving off the light and heat their weary and mismatched group needed as they wordlessly gathered on a fallen stump and large rock nearby. None of the women spoke. Exhausted and worried, and still not fully trusting of each other, they merely watched as Mary Margaret spun the rabbit she’d brought back for supper on the spit they had rigged up over the fire and listened as Mulan finished assembling the tent they’d soon crawl into once they had eaten at last.
This wilderness was about the furthest thing from an “Enchanted” Forest that Emma could have conjured in her naive 21st century mind, but she was simply too drained to point out the irony to either her mother - she wasn’t even ready to apply that term to her friend and roommate yet - or honest-to-goodness freaking Sleeping Beauty. And it didn’t help that she kept hearing Hook’s voice echoing in her ears, the hurt and shocked betrayal in his tone - and in those dangerously expressive eyes - as he’d pled with her, ‘Have I told you a lie? Why do this to me now?’ She had the sinking feeling that no matter how tired her body might be, when she lay her head down tonight, she wouldn’t be able to sleep for seeing his face as it had looked when she had turned away on the back of her eyelids, and her guilt at leaving him chained atop the beanstalk gnawing at her insides.
Shaking her head clear, Emma reminded herself once again that Hook had been in league with Cora; they had no proof but his word, her gut feeling, and her superpower no one else believed, that he wasn’t still working for the witch against them. She’d done the right thing, Emma savagely scolded her yammering conscience. Nothing was worth the risk of not getting back to Henry - or even worse, seeing Regina’s evil mother find her way to where Henry was. Certainly not a piercing-eyed pirate who seemed to see right through her and make her squirm doing it.
With a nod and murmur of thanks, she took the portion of roasted meat offered to her on a makeshift skewer and nibbled at it gingerly. It might just be that she was famished and too tired to be picky, but it tasted better than expected. Emma was swallowing her second bite, when noise caught her attention from the nearby treeline. She jerked upright, immediately on guard; her state of near-slumber shattered and all her nerves jangling with alarm. Her eyes met Mary Margaret’s as her mother reached for her bow and Emma stood with fists clenched, ready to defend them however she could, whether her gun was any use out here or not. Mulan had abandoned the tent at the sound as well, smoothly drawing her sword and facing the trees in front of them like a deadly sentinel.
The noise of heavy footsteps smashing through the underbrush grew nearer and louder; branches snapped, heavy, gasping breaths were heard, and Emma could only square her shoulders and wait for whatever new foe was coming forth to show itself.
What she wasn’t expecting - and what tore a harsh gasp from her throat on sight - was for Hook to stumble dazedly out of the woods toward them, momentarily leaning against a tree trunk to steady himself, his face obviously bloody and his clothing torn. He took a couple more weaving steps toward them before the toe of his boot caught a root that sent him sprawling face down in the dirt at their feet. And he didn’t get up. Didn’t move or speak. Emma was rushing forward in spite of herself before she could think better of it. Her mother called for her to be careful, and Mulan’s stern face cautioned it could be a ploy, but she paid neither of them much heed.
He still hadn’t moved, and he looked even worse close up. He’d been hurt. Badly. Surely Anton wouldn’t have… This wasn’t what she had wanted. Was this her fault?
Crouching, Emma tried to shake Hook gently, to stir him back into wakefulness. A groan escaped him breathily, which shouldn’t have relieved her nearly as much as it did. There was nothing for it but to roll him over onto his back. At least then she could see his face and assess the damage.
But when she did, her breath caught a second time, choking up somewhere between her throat and her lungs. She couldn’t imagine there had been many times in the life of Captain Killian Jones when this could be said of him, but he looked terrible. His lower lip was busted, with rusty remnants of dried blood staining where they had trailed down his chin. One eye was swollen nearly shut, and the other was bleary to the point that she wondered how he had made his way to them through the dark. A large gash that had barely closed showed beneath the disheveled dark fringe on his forehead. Dark, purpled bruises and nasty scrapes mottled the skin of his face, neck and collar nearly everywhere she could see. Though she would have never admitted it aloud, Hook’s usually flawless countenance was horribly altered by whatever had happened to him. The shadows darkening his usual mischievious sparkle and daring turned her stomach in a way she couldn't begin to explain.
He struggled to raise his head slightly and blinked up at her as best he could through the usable slit of his eye. “Ah Swan, caught up to you, didn’t I?” he jested brokenly, somehow still teasing her through what must be immense pain.
Tilting her head to study him, Emma struggled to look unamused while inexplicably aching to place a hand to his forehead, brush back the matted hair there, and offer some modicum of comfort. Her fingers moved almost of their own accord, hovering just barely over his cheek before hesitating and pulling back, tingling at their proximity even as she resisted making contact. There didn’t appear to be a single place on him that wasn’t battered and wouldn’t cause him more pain if she tried to touch.
As if reading her concern, Hook shifted restlessly, attempting to lever himself upright and then falling back with a wince and guttural moan of protest. She also noticed for the first time how tightly he kept his hook arm pressed to his side, not sure if the injury was to the arm itself or if he were shielding his stomach or ribs, but it ratcheted her worry for him that much higher. Not certain what to do for him, or what to say, her usual half-annoyed bantering retorts fled her the longer she witnessed his vulnerability. Emma finally settled on simply answering his question, and asking one of her own. “It would appear you’ve caught me,” she acknowledged, then added softer, “But why?”
Huffing out a weary breath, Killian didn’t look at her as he barely shook his head, the motion seeming to express that he didn’t quite know himself. “I guess because, double cross and all, Lass, you lot are the safest choice for company of my rather limited options.”
Emma flushed with embarrassment at his casual mention of what she’d done. Her cheeks burned, knowing the man who lay before her could surely see how she’d colored at the reminder and could only hope that his current state made him less sharply observant than usual. That she hadn’t trusted him or the brief alliance they’d made shamed her, and then made her angry for feeling ashamed. She’d been burned before, and had learned to be more wary. That she had wanted to believe him, and had silently agreed when he’d called them quite a team, had only made her more anxious to leave him behind, to flee before he turned on her and she was left in the dust herself. Pushing the conflicting emotions aside, she tried another tack instead. “But what happene to you? How did…? Surely Anton didn’t…?” She was tripping over her words now, flustered and chiding herself as she shook her head in frustration.
Biting her tongue until she could regain control, her eyes flew to her hand when Killian used his to clasp it and gain her attention. Though his fingers were trembling with the effort, he held on and answered her slowly. “No, that wasn’t the work of your giant admirer. Your new friend released me once the time you requested of him had passed. Bloody gargantuan numbskull threatened me to leave you in peace, but he didn’t do this damage.”
Emma exhaled air she’d hardly realized she was holding. It didn’t make things right between them, but she was grateful that she hadn’t misjudged Anton’s nature and directly caused the torture Hook had clearly undergone. “But then, who?” she whispered, finally daring to squeeze the hand that held hers in return, while at last reaching out and smoothing a light caress over his brow.
He flinched slightly at the initial contact, but then his eyes fell closed momentarily with a sigh of relief. Emma had to know, though the only other option she could think of had dread settling in her belly like stone. “Who did this to you?” she choked.
“Why Cora, of course,” he intoned, trying to appear either flippant or matter of fact and failing with the shadows that passed over his expression. “Not honestly sure why she didn’t finish the job, unless she thought she had and this old body is just too stubborn to give up the ghost.” He drew in a ragged breath before adding, “At any rate, after letting me know that she would leave me here, unable to ever gain my vengeance on Rumplestiltskin, she made certain she had demonstrated the consequences of choosing to align myself against her.”
By this point, his breathing had grown shallow and labored once more with the effort of speaking. Shushing him with a plea to rest, Emma was eager to check with the others about anything they might be able to do for his injuries. He certainly didn’t need her to keep him talking as she was. Pressing trembling lips together, Emma dashed away the single drop of moisture that had escaped her eye and laid his hand tenderly back on his chest. “Well, thankfully, Cora counted her win a bit too soon. Let’s see if we can help you live to fight another day.”
His unfairly long lashes fluttered, and a small, soft chuckle broke from his cracked lips, but Killian seemd to be rapidly giving up the fight to remain lucid. Emma wasn’t sure whether that was good or bad while they tried to tend to his wounds, but she had to do something. She wasn’t going to desert him again.
****************************************
When his eyes fluttered open some time later, Killian Jones found himself dazed and dizzy, then almost nauseous, with his throat parched and dry. Panic followed almost immediately as he struggled to gain his bearings and found himself weak as a newborn kitten, floundering even to sit up unaided. He could not have said whether it had been minutes, hours, or days since he was last aware of his surroundings, but just as he was not sure how much time had passed, he was also vaguely uncertain of where he was and whether or not he was alone - an even more disturbing condition.
His mind was reeling as he attempted to move, scrabbling around over the dry, dusty ground with his good hand in a frantic search for his cutlass. Surely he must have left it within reach. He had learned long ago, even as the captain of a mostly loyal pirate crew, that enemies were varied and numerous, and that he must never let his guard down without a weapon close at hand. He had a jagged, long-healed gash running under his ribs, which Smee had tried his best - if rather crookedly - to sew closed, but which had taught him that lesson all too well.
With a frenzied sound of frustration in his throat, Killian kept fighting to sit upright, ready to defend himself against some unknown foe, only to have hands grip his upper arms tightly, pressing him back and forcing him to remain on the ground. “Unhand me, you blackguard!” he growled, only to have his vision finally regain focus and the fight abruptly drain from his limbs when he found himself staring up at Emma Swan hovering over him, her touch the one keeping him in place.
“Easy there, Hook,” she chided, loosening her grip as he stilled and grew calmer upon seeing he was not under immediate attack. “You’ve got to settle down, or you’ll hurt yourself even more. We tried to stitch the deepest of your cuts and bandage you up. Don’t undo it all!”
She was fussing over him, Killian realized belatedly, his hazy and addled mind slowly filling in the blanks he had missed. She might be scolding and grumbling as she did so, but she was still frightened for his well-being and more concerned for his comfort than he would have dared imagine possible.
He had known there was a frisson of energy that flowed between them when he’d taken her hand in the giant’s lair, cleansing and caring for the cut on her palm despite her stubbornly self-effacing protests. And he really hadn’t thought he was imagining the way she’d held her breath and her pupils had dilated when he’d eyed her daringly while tying off the bandage with his teeth. Still, he’d been hesitant to place too much fatih in what he was reading from her either. Emma Swan was overly guarded and used to being on her own. Someone had obviously hurt her deeply enough to make her push everyone else away in response. Not only that, but she was an actual royal - the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming, no less - and the fabled Savior besides. Her light was much too pure and bright to be aligned with his dark and tarnished pirate soul set on vengeance.
All the same, he had cursed himself as seven times a fool when his heart plummeted at her turning and running from him on the beanstalk. He had held out a little hope for them, in spite of his better judgement, or he would not have been so hurt by the betrayal. She was as full of shining enticement, from her flowing golden hair to her sparkling jade eyes, as any buried treasure. He couldn’t help wanting to stay by her side.
As Emma slowly moved to support him, helping him ease into a sitting position while bracing him against her own hip and shoulder, she offered him a water skin and held it up so he could take a much-needed cool drink of water. Killian was stunned to realize that maybe winning her over wasn’t as lost a cause as he had thought. Perhaps Emma Swan already cared more than she wanted to allow herself, and against her own good sense - much as he had found himself doing.
Several quiet moments passed before Killian fully registered that all was still and motionless around them. It was full dark now; the middle of the night, or perhaps early morning, if his view of the moon was accurate, yet he could hear no movements or voice’s from Emma’s royal, bandit, or warrior companions. The fire next to them was dimmed to near embers, and it seemed for the moment as if he and Emma were the only two people under the brilliant array of stars overhead.
Now that he had his bearings and his thirst was slaked, he ventured a glance beyond his lovely blonde Savior’s beguiling face, at least far enough to see that a rough tent had been staked and three bed rolls were occupied beneath its temporary shelter, explaining their privacy, but raising even more questions. Why were the rest of them willing to lower their guard enough to sleep with a virtual stranger and former enemy in their camp? It had been hard to miss the warning and distrust in the Lady Snow’s eyes, at any rate - probably largely protectiveness for her daughter, but still, why grant him this sort of uninterrupted interlude with Emma then? He was clearly in poor shape; maybe they had reckoned he couldn’t do anything to harm them, or charm Emma too thoroughly, as injured as he was.
Killian was abruptly startled from his wandering thoughts when he once more felt the cool, soothing touch of Emma’s fingertips trailing up the side of his face and into his hair. She raked the dark strands back from his fevered skin, calming even the pounding that pained him from the magical beating he’d endured and the rough impact his head had suffered when Cora finally dropped his battered body to the hard ground and left him for dead.
The Enchanted Forest’s lost princess spoke so quietly he had to strain to hear her when she addressed him again, her eyes studiously avoiding his to observe her fingers carding through the mussed, blood-caked strands of his hair. “I’m sorry… truly, I am. It was wrong of me to leave you behind the way I did, and… I should have trusted you. You may be a pirate, and awfully full of yourself, and way too flirty for your own good…”
At that, Killian attempted to waggle an eyebrow and smirk salaciously to make her smile, only for a cringe to escape him at the motion of his brow and lip.
She noticed, of course, and rather than admonishing that it served him right, as she would have usually done, Emma hissed in sympathy and hushed him with a gentle hum in the back of her throat. “See, this shouldn’t have happened to you, Ho - Killian.” Her switch from his moniker to his real name struck him right in the center of the chest, with as much emphasis as a physical blow. He couldn’t decide if her concern, guilt, and contrition more warmed his heart or troubled him - not wanting to win her over out of mere pity. “That witch only caught up to you, found you empty-handed, because of what I did. This is my fault… b-but… I never wanted you to be hurt like this. I only wanted a head start, to get back to my son.”
If he hadn’t been shocked to his core already, the depth of emotion in Swan’s voice as she made her confession would have been enough to bowl him over. It sounded as though she might be on the verge of tears on his behalf, and Killian could hardly fathom it. Drawing a ragged breath of his own, he wet his cracked lips and managed a sincere response to her heartfelt openness.
“Darling,” and here he couldn’t help a bit of a rogueish grin at her, despite how it pulled on the broken skin of his lip again.
She shook her head, but didn’t scoff or interrupt, not this time, and heartened, he continued in all sincerity. “I’m not going to lie to you. I was angry when you shackled me there and left me behind. I’d been on the level with you, was doing my best to help you, and for the first the time in a long time, I felt like I connected with someone genuinely. But I also understand that your boy is your first priority. You cannot let anything else matter as much - or even possibly risk his safety.”
His battered knuckles were beginning to swell, and his fingers ached as he moved them, but Killian still managed to return the clutch of Emma’s own hand and intertwine their fingers with a sigh of rightness and relief. Glancing back up to search her gaze once more, he added, “I understand what being separated from one’s child might do to a person… more than you might think, in fact. I respect you all the more for your urgency and desire to return to him as soon as possible.”
He could see Emma wondering what his words might mean; the gears turning in her sharp mind were obvious, even if she only pursed her lips and narrowed her eyes slightly, watching him a few moments longer. Thankfully, she didn’t press the matter further, but instead released what seemed a lungful of air she must have been holding worriedly and gave him a hopeful smile. “So… you forgive me, then?”
The barest dip of his chin was as far as he dared move his aching head, but Killian assured her without hesitation, “Aye, Emma, I do,” in as strong and certain a voice as he could muster.
By then, the faintest tendrils of light were beginning to break through the deep indigo sky and soft hints of scuffling and waking from their fellow travelers hinted that they would not be alone much longer.
Though he still hurt all over as if he had been scorched by a dragon’s breath and then crushed by an ogre’s tread, Killian couldn’t help but feel as if his situation had drastically changed. Even more so when Emma Swan’s eyes grew warmer yet; her aspect beaming crookedly at him like sunlight slowly emerging from a bank of clouds. Just before they were joined by Snow White bearing coffee for his Savior, Emma winked at him conspiratorially and leaned forward to murmur. “I’m glad, Pirate. After all, we make quite the team, remember?”

CS fics by @elizabeethan you must read!
Happy birthday @elizabeethan ! @snowbellewells and I had the same idea apparently but you deserve all the love for your fantastic stories on your birthday!
Elizabeth have so many amazing, beautiful fics and so I’ve struggled to narrow it down to my absolute forever favorites. If you haven’t read one of them yet you’re missing out and you need to rectify that ASAP - your life will be better for it, trust me
The Sad Baker Killian series
Never More Than I Can Take
holding my breath for you
From the Beginning
What can I even say about this series - there aren’t even words. It’s the softest, most painful, hearbreakingly beautiful love story. Sad Killian is always one of my favorites but who knew that adding baker to that would just magnify it tenfold. Ugh this story is just - I can’t - just gfjdakvdsagl. Read it.
Overboard series
Ao3
Here we have a beautiful example of our lovely talented shipmate thinking she could get away with only writing us a oneshot of this breathtaking universe. And here we are 6 installments in and if you don’t think I would devour a hundred thousand more you’re wrong. I need this as a whole damn novel that just never ever ends. The sad silver Killian and damaged Emma, the way you’ve written the emotion and the love between these two, the way you created such a full and complete world which feels so real and beautiful while still keeping our favorite ship so true to their characters - I’m in awe. Sometimes I’ll just start thinking about this fic and sit there for a good long while in amazement at your talent. Did I mention I’m obsessed with this series already? Perfection.
Watch the Sunlight Fade
UUUUGGGGHHHHHH this fic. It’s like you wrote everything I wished Sons of Anarchy had been and then multiplied the amazingness by a billion. This one is so so painful to read and so incredibly beautiful. Strap yourselves in for a hell of an angsty ride that will be 100% worth it. Prepare yourself to want to murder Neal like you never have before. Prepare yourself to want to give Killian a giant fucking hug and take care of him. The way you slow burned this fic too is just stunning too and I can’t even get my words to work right in saying how much I love this fic. Everyone needs to read it and give it the appreciation it deserves because WOW this story gives me life.
Steal Away
So there’s obviously a pattern starting here of @elizabeethan hurts me to the deepest part of my soul and I thank her for it. I was obsessed with this fic from the moment you suggested the premise and honestly apart from Overboard which will forever be one of my all time favorite fics, this might be my favorite of yours. This fic starts as a robery gone wrong and then becomes something so much more than I ever expected or knew I needed. It had me crying, like ugly cry in public but don’t stop reading because you need to know what happens next, and then just feeling so many things that I couldn’t do anything but yell at you about it and then I think this one just renewed my belief in love because you wrote their characters and their story and their emotions so perfectly and everything feels so REAL and heartbreaking and then so so hopeful. This fic is a masterpiece and I would (have?) read it a million times over.
Spaces Between Us
I remember this fic starting with “do you think people would be mad if...” and man I think that is how you need to approach everything you write forever lmao. Will it make them mad? I don’t know but it will absolutely make them rage at your horrible villains, want to cry for Emma and be begging you to let our babies have a torid affair and then maybe murder someone (disclaimer: there is no murder in this fic- but you’d consider it a reasonable choice if there were). You absolutely broke my heart with this story, poor Emma trapped in her relationship with Walsh, the second chance love story that felt so real that I was blown away. I’ve always found it hard to read those because I couldn’t get on board with my ship breaking up in the first place let alone how they’d end up together again but then you wrote this fic and I get it now. And you brought them together again in such a beautiful way with all the angst I could possibly handle. You write angst so well but you also have such a talent with bringing happiness and love and hope back to the story at the end of it all and this fic is a perfect example of that.
Between the Morning and the Night
Finally I had to throw this hilarious little fic in. I swear I’d have listed every single one of your shorter fics - there were so many I loved and everyone should go read them all but I had to narrow it down for this list and I ahve to say that this might be my absolute favorite of your standalones. The premise is so fucking funny - Will noticing the scratches on Killian’s back and Killian in full blown panic about David finding out just who gave them to him - dead. Of course, beautiful, talented, amazing author that you are you gave us feels like you wouldn’t believe turning this funny little oneshot into a truly stunning piece of writing. I love this fic so much. Like just:
“Good god, mate.”
He turns, surprise in his eyes when he faces his friend and colleague and is met with his shocked, horrified expression.
“What?”
He knows he’s red and sweaty after a workout, but it can’t be anything different from how he always looks when they return to the locker room.
“I mean, were you attacked?”
💀💀💀💀💀
Bless this fic and bless you for writing it
I hope you’ll all go and read the incredible fics that Slibby has written over the last couple years (she wrote 54 in like 2 years???? are you real though, girl??) and give her the love and appreciation she deserves on this the most special of days!
Happy birthday again @elizabeethan you’ve been the best pocket friend a girl could ask for and I’m forever grateful that the fandom brought us together

CS Fic Rec Monday: “How Long, Love, Before You Go?” by: @donteattheappleshook
(Part Four of the “Lover of the Light” series)
Oh goodness, every segment of this four part CS story collection is brilliant. It’s honestly hard to even choose a favorite, but I just re-read this one recently, and it tugs at your heart so much that it is hard to resist. I also don’t want to spoil too much of the plot or the angst and comfort elements, but suffice it to say that the Evil Queen’s spell in 6a is played out for more than one version of our pirate and princess- and each one will have you wrapped around their fingers in a unique and unforgettable way. This one, with its older Killian Jones and its EF Princess Emma is nothing short of enchanting. You ache for them and smile at the same time. Read all four parts of this, but really, really don’t miss this one!!! ❤️❤️❤️

Kinktober Special Part 1
The Crew's Whore (Part 1)
It's KINKTOBER BABY!!! I'm celebrating early and it's getting weird. Making a multi part series about being the Straw Hat's plaything. If anyone has any suggestions about other chapters, I'm happy to hear them! I'm open to almost anything! Sanji is first, because like? Of course he is.
Summary: You are the former owner of the Grand Line’s most popular brothel. Your fighting abilities got the attention of the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates. He had asked you to join their crew but what would you bring to the team? Your battle skills were hardly comparable to many of the other Straw Hats… but you actually had a great talent. Your years working as a high-end escort had prepared you to become the private plaything for this pirate crew. You joined the Straw Hats as their personal sex toy.
Pairing: SUB Sanji x DOM afab!reader
WC: 3600 lmao
TW: sub and dom situation, she tops him, groping, masturbation, pet names, submissive behavior, kissing, voyeurism, BONDAGE, rope play, BDSM, cropping, riding crop usage, smacking, edging, teasing, submissive sanji :(, vaginal sex, fingering, begging.
Chapter 2 Chapter 3
Chapter 1: The Cook
You had been sailing with the Straw Hat crew for just a week now after agreeing to join their band of pirates. You made an agreement to join them not only to aide in their battles but also to provide your… services. You always had an insatiable sexual appetite, hence becoming such a professional in your line of work. After a week with not a single suitor, you had felt yourself become needy and frustrated. It had been 7 days and not a single member of your newly found crew had come to seek you out for some relief. Not even Sanji…
You were so sure he was going to be rapping at your door the first night you spent aboard the Sunny. When you agreed to join the crew and allow your body to be used by any of them at any time, Sanji’s nose sprung a leak so strong that he had to be carried back to his room partially conscious.
So when a week had passed and he hadn’t made you a proposal, you were concerned. He had barely even fawned over Robin or Nami either, actually… He seemed off. You started to watch him closer throughout the day. He was constantly running back and forth between dishes, preparing meals, setting tables, and taking inventory of the pantry, he just looked so spread thin, not like the charismatic love drunk cook you had gotten to know. You realized that had he not been so busy, of course he would have made a pass at you, he just needed to relax and frankly, so did you.
The hour grew late and you knew while most of your shipmates would be in bed, Sanji would be in the galley finishing up the dishes from dinner. You finish the glass of white wine you were enjoying on the deck and walk into the kitchen.
“Y/n my darling,” Sanji sighed out tiredly as he saw it was you who entered the galley. “Do you need more wine? I can open another bottle if you just give me a moment I have-“ He looked for a towel to wipe his hands dry of the dish water.
“Sanji thanks but no, it’s fine. Keep doing what you’re doing. I’m a big girl, I can get it myself. I don’t want to make more work for you.”
“If it’s for you, my love, it’s never work.”
You chuckled and winked at him as you headed towards the wine pantry. You perused the shelves for a bit before grabbing a bottle off the rack and walked back out to the kitchen where Sanji had returned to washing dishes. You noticed his broad shoulders tensing under his dress shirt as he continued to clean. He really was pretty. You walked towards him. “You still keep that wine key in your pants pocket, Sanji?” You ask him, a sultry low tone in your voice.
“Oh, um, yeah, I’ll grab it hold on-“ Sanji stutters out as he removes his hands from the sink.
“No need.” You came up behind him and snaked your hand into the front pocket of his dress slacks. In doing this you pressed your breasts against his back. You fished around in his pocket as you brought your other hand to grab his hip. You felt the wine key immediately but you moved your hand past it, feeling around pretending to still look for it. You moved you hand over inside his pocket and softly placed it over his cock and you felt it twitch in his briefs through the thin fabric of the pocket.
“Y/n!” Sanji was turning bright red and a single drop of blood spilled from his nose.
“Is that a bottle opener in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?” You smiled wickedly up at him peeking around his shoulder. You softly squeezed his hardening dick. Sanji had gone into shock, your hand was feeling him up through his pants and he could barely think anymore.
You continued, “Sanji you do so much for us. You work so hard every day to keep us fed and safe. You make so many hard choices and spend all day taking care of everyone except for yourself. Don’t you think you deserve a break? A break from everything? A time for you just to let your mind go completely blank?”
You purred into his ear as you continued to very slightly stroke him and squeeze him through his pants pocket. Sanji was breathing heavily and couldn’t get out any words, his mind short circuiting.
“You don't have to answer right this second, but if you’ll let me help you, come to my room in an hour.” You pulled your hand back out of his pocket and brought the wine key with you on your way out. You give him a seductive eyebrow raise before you left the kitchen and brought your wine bottle with the newly acquired opener down to your room.
You stripped your clothes off upon entering your room and started opening up the wine bottle. You took a swig straight from the perfectly chilled bottle and giggled to yourself. This would be fun. You knew he would show up, there wasn’t a doubt in your mind he could resist you after the little show you put on in the kitchen. You head over to your walk in closet and grabbed a black silk robe with lace dripped off the sleeves and slipped it on. You walked even further into your closet into your favorite section. All of your favorite toys and naughty items were hung neatly on the walls and packed into shelves. You smiled, finally getting back to your old self again. You wanted to give Sanji the night of his life, especially after how well he takes care of you and the rest of the crew.
You ghost your hands over various bondage items before grabbed old reliable, some simple red rope. You decided to get your softest crop, knowing that Sanji probably wasn’t used to this type of sexual encounter. You didn’t want to really hurt him… not tonight at least.
You laid both items out on your bed and you sat down against the cushions and settled in with your bottle of wine. You couldn’t help but feel warm all over, electric with the excitement of taking a new lover. You unconsciously rubbed your thighs together, your cunt starting to get wet.
*knock knock*
“Come in.” You shout as you get off the bed and walk towards the door. Sanji opens it and shyly steps inside.
“Y/n… I.. don’t know what to say… I just… I guess… I need it.” Sanji stumbled horribly over his words, eyes glued to where your robe dipped low into your cleavage.
“Need what, Sanji?” You needed to hear him say it.
“I need your help, Y/n. I had all these grand plans to impress you and make our first time together perfect and romantic but I just… I’ve been so exhausted… I’m so burnt out…” He sighed out, clearly so stressed.
“I know you are… That’s why I’m going to help you relax. You don’t have to think about a thing… Or lift a single finger… Do you trust me, Sanji?” You approach him and start wrap your arms around his neck, bringing your face close to nuzzle his nose with yours. “Let me relieve your stress tonight.”
He answers you with a passionate kiss grabbing the sides of your face with both hands. He continues to kiss you with fervor as he pushes you back towards the bed. He pulls away, there’s so much lust in his eyes, but you can tell he’s exhausted.
“Yes, I want that. Please." He pleaded for you.
You smiled at him. This was going to be fun.
“Ok. Strip, then. Completely naked on the bed. Spread eagle. Quickly.” Your voice turned commanding as soon as you heard his consent. He stared at you for a moment dumbfounded before he started loosening his tie and stripping off his clothes. Once his dress socks were off he practically jumped onto your bed. His cock was already standing at attention from your teasing earlier in the galley.
*pretty…* you thought.
You grabbed your rope from the corner of the bed and started tying each of his limbs to your bedframe. It wasn’t tight, or stretching him at all, he had plenty of slack rope for movement, but he certainly wasn’t going anywhere.
“Now sweet boy… You’re going to do everything I say… no matter what… Understand? And if you need a break, you say “strawberry”. Got it?” You ask him as you tighten each knot. Sanji nods excitedly.
“No no,” You smack his naked thigh with 2 fingers. He winced. “You tell me out loud.”
“Yes, y/n. I understand. I will do anything you say.”
“Hm… Good.” You smirk to yourself as you bring an armchair to sit directly in front of the bed in Sanji’s line of sight. His chest was heaving, he was feeling so many things. Excitement. Nervousness. Everything. His cock was already stating to leak and you had done nothing more than tie him to the bed. You met his gaze. You slipped your robe to the floor revealing your full naked body to him without breaking eye contact. He falters and drops his eyes to your gorgeous, bare body. His mouth drops open.
You grab his suit jacket off the floor and reach into the inner pocket grabbing his smokes and his lighter before dropping the jacket back down. You saunter slowly over to the chair and sit down, crossing your legs and leaning back. You slide a cigarette out of the pack and light it.
“Ohhhh Black-leg…” Your blow out with a puff of smoke. “Look at you now… So sweet and willing… Can you imagine if people saw you like this?” You smiled as you took another drag. “Even that swordsman?”
“Have you had him?” Sanji was burst out of his lust filled haze at the mention of his rival.
You laughed “Oh sweetheart no. He’s so clueless, I don’t even think he knows what I’m here for. I haven’t had anyone on the crew yet. You’re going to be my first.”
You blow out a cloud of smoke as you lean back further and spread your legs for him. Sanji could see the glistening slick on the lips of your perfect cunt. You take a last drag of the cigarette and snuffed it out in the ashtray on your side table. You continue,
“And they say you always remember your first…” Sanji audibly whimpers at your words. His cock was leaking precum down his veiny shaft. He tugged lightly at his restraints, thinking maybe he could get free and grab you. He couldn’t. You were a professional, after all.
You grab your breasts and begin to toy with your nipples, breathing out an airy sigh. After kneading and playing with your tits for awhile, you snake your left hand down your body. You use your pointer and middle finger to spread your pussy wide open for Sanji to see your swollen clit and leaking hole.
Sanji lurches his body forward instinctively, desperately trying to get closer to your dripping cunt that was putting on a show for him. He groans loudly.
“Please, Y/n… Let me touch you please… I can make you feel good I promise!”
You tut at him while bringing your right hand down to your pussy and using 3 fingers to slowly rub your clit, “no no sweet boy, you do so much already. You need to rest.” Your smile was evil.
Soft little sighs leave your mouth as you pleasure yourself. Sanji’s chest was heaving dramatically as he watched you, no more words leaving his mouth, only heavy breaths. You bring down your fingers and push them inside of yourself, moaning and throwing your head back in the process. You immediately pushed them up towards your spot and rubbed it forcefully. Your pussy was so slick that the heel of your palm slipped effortlessly across your clit as you pumped your fingers inside of yourself. The pressure in your lower belly starting building as you moaned louder.
You pick your head up and look at the gorgeous blonde submissive in front of you. God, you missed this. Fully bringing a man to his sexual limits. He looked so sad but so turned on, beads of sweat running down his forehead. You continued fucking yourself to orgasm as his eyes were locked onto your stuffed cunt.
“Do you wanna watch me cum, sweet boy? Would that make you happy?” You breathed out at him as you brought yourself right to the edge of climax.
“GOD FUCK yes, please God yes y/n please I want to see it so badly! You’re so beautiful!” Sanji was so desperate he was shouting as you. His cock twitched painfully against his belly, leaking precum onto his abs. The sight allowed you to shudder forward into a powerful orgasm. “Fuck!” You shriek out as you squirt out warm liquid over your hand. You shake and spasm as your orgasm finished wreaking havoc on your body.
You pull out your fingers and sit up in your chair as you regain strength. You rise up and walk towards Sanji’s head laying on one of your pillows. “Open.”
He turns towards you to meet your eyes, he obliges. You shove your cum covered fingers into his open mouth. He immediately wraps his tongue around your fingers, trying desperately to taste the flavors of your delicious cunt. His eyes roll back in his head, he closes his mouth around your fingers and sucks them needing to get every last drop down his throat.
“Oh what a good boy you are, taking your reward so well!” You praise him as he sucks your fingers. He lets out a massive groan around your hand and his body lurches forward. You turn your head to look down his body.
He had just cum. From sucking on your fingers. There was a massive trail of semen across his abdomen. You gasp. You reach to your left and grab the smooth riding crop laying on the bed. A disastrous smile spreads across your face.
“You! little! slut!” You smack his left thigh with your crop. Sanji winces and gasps. “Look at you! I didn’t know you were such a desperate little thing!” You punctuate your teasing with more slaps to his thighs and chest as you circle the bed, like a hyena stalking its prey.
“Just… Just for you… my love… Please…” Sanji was breathing so hard, after cumming untouched he still felt unsatisfied. The leather cracking on his thighs was providing him the perfect amount of pain for his dick to perk up again. He needed your body on him now…. Your mouth, your hands, your pussy ANYTHING, he needed more.
“Please what, greedy boy? It seems you’ve already gotten a reward. What else could you possibly need, hmm?” You giggled wickedly as you give him more light smacks with your crop.
“Please fuck me y/n! Please fuck me! Anything you want, just please touch me!” Sanji shouts at you. He tugs violently at his restraints, needing to grab your body and ravish it like you deserve.
“shhhh.. relax honey.. you’ve done so good.. I’ll help you now… just relax, okay?” You kiss his forehead before dropping your crop and hopping up to straddle him on the bed. You begin kissing his neck and sucking dark red hickeys onto it so that he could prove to his rival that he was the one to take you first. You knew he’d love that. Sanji moans out under your deep kisses on his collar bone. He jerks his hips upwards towards your core, trying to feel some wetness or pressure on his hard cock.
You reach down and line his leaking dick up with your entrance. It was so velvety and thick, you swipe it through your wetness a few times, gasping at the feeling of it’s mushroom tip pressing on your clit.
“Goooood baby boy, so good.” You coo to him as you sink down on his length. Your dominant persona faltered for only a brief moment as he stretched your hole so deliciously.
“Fuck…” You gasped out.
“Miss y/n please… I need more… please… want you to fuck me so bad, need to feel you so bad…” Sanji was nearly crying as he tried to lift his hips off the bed to drill into you, but wasn’t able to due to his restraints.
“Oh don’t worry my sweet boy, once I get off from your big cock I’ll let you fill me up so good okay? You just have to wait until I’m finished, you can do that for me, right baby?”
“YES yes please I want to fill you! Yes, I’ll do anything!”
You smile at him and hold the side of his face in your hands. You start to grind yourself onto his fat cock, bringing yourself towards another orgasm. You pushed your thumb into his mouth, Sanji immediately wrapped his lips around it and sucked at it desperately. Continuing to ride Sanji, you leaned back so that you could rub your clit as his member rubbed back and forth against that perfect spot inside of you. Your moans became louder and louder as you used his gorgeous body for your own pleasure.
He released your thumb with a wet pop. “My l-love… it’s too much… you’re too tight and wet, I’m going to-“
You stopped moving and leaned forward to wrap your hand gently around his throat. Your fingers were wet on his skin from rubbing your clit.
“No. No you’re not. You haven’t asked and I haven’t given you permission. I am not finished. You haven’t earned your reward.”
Sanji gulped loudly and nodded his head. “O-of course love, I-I only want your pleasure.”
“Good.” You smiled down at him as you resumed your actions to bring yourself to climax. It was only a few more moments before you found yourself being close to that edge again. You grinded your pelvis so deeply into his, burying his cock into you and rubbing your clit against the skin at his base.
“YES, fuck!” You threw your head back as your cunt came all over Sanji’s cock. Squeezing and creaming all over his shaft, Sanji was in sensory overload.
“Please miss! I need to-! Fuck! Now, please!” Sanji pleaded with you.
Your voice came out hoarse and tired, still wrecked from your powerful orgasm. “Yes sweet boy, fill me up all the way baby. You’ve been so good honey, cum inside of me.” You softly breath out to him as you try to come down. You feel a hard thrust from below and Sanji screams out,
“Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you…” A tear spills past his lash line as he unloads his cum deep inside of you. Feeling the stress and pressure of his day leave his body, he shudders.
You feel the final pulses of his orgasm fade out and you move yourself gently off of his softening cock. You begin untying the rope knots around his limbs as he tries to collect himself, brain broken from cumming so hard. You finish untying him and you run your hand over the marks left by your riding crop. You hobble over to your side table and pour out a glass of water. You bring the blanket at the foot of the bed and spread it out over Sanji’s sweaty body, tucking it in at the sides.
“hey.. sit up baby. Have a little water before you sleep, okay?” You coo in his ear softly as you stroke his hair. Sanji sits up on his elbows weakly and grabs the glass you offered him. He gulps down the water and hands it back to you. You place the glass on the side table and curl up by his side in bed.
“So… How are you feeling?” You asked him, eager to provide him of any aftercare he needed.
“Y/n I… It was perfect…” He turns to look at you in the eyes. “It was more perfect than I could have ever imagined. I feel so much better, like a weight is lifted off my chest. Thank you, y/n.” Sanji leaned down and placed a tender kiss on your lips.
“Good. I like when you’re happy. Foods better.” You smiled at him. He laughed.
As you fell asleep in his arms he couldn’t help but to grin and think to himself,
“Wait until fucking moss head finds out I was first…”

@jrob64 Oh goodness, as always, I apologize for taking longer than I would wish to reblog and review, but I’m so glad I got to read this one shot of yours! 🥰 This story was lovely and fun and as comforting as warm (properly made) soup when you don’t feel well. I’m sorry for the heartaches you have been through recently which you were writing to combat, but you have come up with a sweet ray of light in fiction form.
I especially loved Emma’s caring side that is shown so well here. She is a concerned and giving, kind, nurturing person, but her snark and tough outer shell often show up first and overshadow it - on the show and in. With those she cares about though, that more sensitive side of her nature is undeniable. You allowed us to glimpse that vulnerability a bit sooner here - to genuinely beautiful effect. ❤️
And poor Killian! Naturally he feels awful and doesn’t want someone he has a difficult history with bothering him while he’s weak and off-balance, but his willingness to see that he made a mistake and hurt Emma when she tried to help, and his willingness to apologize and try to write the wrong work wonderfully here. You do a great job with our fave couple in everyday modern life situations, and this is no exception. Incredibly relatable and so easily pictured from start to finish!!!
Thanks for sharing this with us!!
A Love/Hate Relationship - a CS modern AU one-shot
I wrote this story because I was in need of fluff, humor and hurt/comfort after the painful experience of losing two dogs in less than a year. Zeke, who was in my story Sowing Seeds of Trust, died of cancer last June. Two months later, we adopted Winston, who was the main character in Pet for Rent. Somehow, he swallowed part of a brush (while he wasn't at home) which perforated his intestines and caused internal bleeding. He died May 23. Writing my favorite trope for my favorite couple is therapeutic for me as I deal with my heartbreak.
Many thanks to @kmomof4 and @hookedmom.
Summary: Killian Jones' neighbor, Emma Swan, has hated him since the first day they met. When she finds out he came down with the flu and attempts to nurse him back to health, he's more than a little confused.

*********
Killian Jones buried his face in a pillow and pulled it up over his head in an attempt to stop the incessant pounding. After several painful moments, he realized the noise wasn’t in his head, but was coming from the front door of his apartment.
Groaning, he tossed back the covers and swung his legs over the side of the bed, sitting with his head in his hands for a short while. When he finally got to his feet, he swayed dizzily and stumbled into the door frame, leaning against it to try to regain his balance.
He eventually made his way across the living room, unlocked the deadbolt and threw the door open. “What?” he demanded loudly, regretting it immediately when a sharp pain shot behind his eyes. He squeezed them shut before even registering who was on the other side of the door.
“Jones, how many times do I have to tell you to…Wow! You look like hell.”
Killian cracked his eyes open enough to see his neighbor from across the hall, Emma Swan. Infuriating to the highest degree and just as beautiful, she was the last person he wanted to see while he was in his current state. The two of them had a love/hate relationship…minus the love.
They had gotten off on the wrong foot when he moved in a little over a year ago. Unaware that she was a police officer who worked the night shift, he woke her up shouting orders at the movers. Emma Swan was not a morning person, especially after working an eight hour shift on the streets of Boston, and she informed him of it in no uncertain terms.
After that day, every interaction between them was filled with tension and snarkiness. Killian wished they could go back to when they met and start over again, because he knew she was basing her hatred of him on that first impression. In all honesty, he was quite intrigued by the fierce blonde and would like to know if there was a sweet or funny side of her she kept hidden very deep inside. Very, very deep.
Now she was here, standing at his door, scrutinizing him like a bug squashed on the bottom of her shoe. “Hangover?” she smirked.
He sighed. “I have the flu, Swan. It’s been going around at the office and I wasn’t lucky enough to avoid it. Now, if you’re done yelling at me, is there something I can help you with? If not, I’d really like to go back to bed.”
She took a step forward and unexpectedly pressed her palm to his forehead, then both hands to his unshaven cheeks. “You’ve got a fever.”
“Usually accompanies the flu. Now if you’ll…”
“Do you have medicine?”
“No, I…”
“Have you eaten? Are you drinking plenty of fluids?”
“I haven’t…”
“How long have you had it? Have you seen a doctor?”
Killian rested his pounding head against the door. “Must you use your interrogation techniques on me? I haven’t committed a crime, you know.”
“I’m trying to help,” she said, clearly offended.
“I could use less help and more sleep,” he grumbled.
“Yes, good,” she said, pushing past him into his apartment. “Go back to bed and I’ll get you something to drink. Do you want water, juice or…”
“More questions, Swan? Why can’t you just leave me alone?”
“All you have to drink is water, Dr. Pepper Zero and beer?” she asked, peering into his refrigerator. Closing it, she straightened up and began opening cupboards. “Do you have tea bags? British people like to drink tea, don’t they?”
He knew it would hurt his head to roll his eyes, so he simply threw up his hands and trudged off to his bedroom. Behind him, he could hear Emma celebrating the fact that she’d located the tea bags.
He had just gotten back to sleep, when he was shaken awake. “What now?” he growled, flopping onto his back.
“I made some tea and found Advil in your medicine cabinet. You need to drink something and get these pills in you.”
He raised his head and blinked up at her blearily. “You went through my medicine cabinet?”
“Yeah. Did you know condoms have an expiration date? The ones you have in there expired almost two years ago. Better not use them, because they’re likely to break.”
“Ugh,” he groaned, letting his head drop back down on his pillow. “Please just let me die.”
“You aren’t gonna die from the flu, Jones.”
“I meant from embarrassment,” he muttered under his breath.
“Sit up,” she commanded, sliding her arm under his pillow and pushing until he did as he was told.
First, she handed him a bottle of water. After glaring at her for several seconds, he finally took it, then swiped the two pills she held in her other palm. He popped them into his mouth and downed them with the water.
“Happy now?” he asked.
“Deliriously,” she quipped. “Now drink your tea.”
He accepted the mug she offered him and held it to his lips. Cautiously taking a sip, he grimaced and spit it back into the cup. “Did you heat the water at all? It’s barely warm! And how bloody much sugar did you put in it?”
“Well, I didn’t want you to burn your mouth,” she explained haughtily. “And I put in the same amount of sugar as I put in my coffee. Four spoonfuls.”
“Four?” he questioned. “Are you trying to kill me, or just give me diabetes?”
“You’re not a very good patient, Jones. You could at least be grateful that I’m helping you.”
“If you recall, I didn’t ask for your help.”
She ignored him, fluffing his pillow and pushing at his chest to get him to lay back down. “I found a can of chicken noodle soup in your cupboard. I’m going to heat it up.”
“Don’t add any sugar to it,” he groused, as she walked out of the bedroom, taking the tepid cup of tea with her.
“I heard that,” she threw over her shoulder.
“Of course she heard that, but didn’t hear when I told her to leave me alone,” he mumbled into his pillow. He tossed and turned, knowing that if he went to sleep, the maddening woman would just wake him up again.
Sure enough, she was back at his bedside within ten minutes, carefully carrying a plate containing a steaming bowl of soup and a small stack of saltine crackers. He sat up before she could order him to, and took the plate from her.
“You didn’t add anything to this, did you?” he asked.
“Nope, I just heated it up,” she assured him.
He dipped the spoon into the soup, blew on it and put it in his mouth, then promptly choked and sputtered. “Bloody hell, Swan! Didn’t you add any water to this?”
“Why would I add water?” she asked, a confused frown forming on her face.
“Because Campbell’s soup is condensed. It’s too salty this way. Adding extra water dilutes it enough that it tastes like soup is supposed to taste, rather than tasting like…like the ocean. Haven’t you ever made soup from a can before?”
“Sure,” she said, crossing her arms across her chest petulantly. “I make Progresso soup all the time, but I never add water to it.”
“Progresso soup isn’t condensed. This is.” He took the stack of crackers, then thrust the plate back towards her. “I’ll just eat these, thanks very much. Now that you’ve tended to me, you can leave me in peace.”
“Are you sure you’re gonna be okay?” she asked.
Was that concern he saw on her face? Surely not. Emma Swan would never be concerned about him. It would be more realistic if she were to try to poison him. Perhaps he should have been more careful eating and drinking what she gave him.
Shaking his head slightly to try to clear those thoughts, he said gruffly, “Yes, I’m sure. It’s not like you really helped anyway.”
This time, he thought he saw a flash of hurt cross her face, before she turned and left the room. Soon he heard the front door close.
He couldn’t have really seen Emma Swan look concerned and hurt, could he? Great. Now he was going to have to add hallucinations to his list of symptoms.
He ate the crackers, then lay down and turned onto his side, tugging the blanket up around his shoulders. He was achy and feverish, but it was the guilt over how he treated his apparently well-meaning neighbor that kept him from falling asleep.
*********
Three days later, after his fever had been broken for twenty-four hours, Killian went back to work. Upon returning home at the end of the day and getting his keys out to unlock his apartment, the door across the hall opened and Emma stepped out.
“Oh, hey Jones. Looks like you recovered, no thanks to me.”
Killian rubbed his finger behind his ear. “I owe you an apology, Swan. I was rude and should have never said what I did.”
She shrugged nonchalantly. “It’s no big deal. I guess I’ll never be a Florence Nightingale.” Turning on her heel, she muttered, “See ya around.”
“Swan…Emma, wait,” he called out, hurrying after her.
She turned around. “What?” she huffed.
“I, uh, I truly am sorry. It was very kind of you to try to help me, but…”
“But what?”
“But why did you do that? I mean, given the fact you hate me…”
“I don’t hate you,” she interrupted.
“Really? You could have fooled me.”
Emma stuck her hands in the back pockets of her jeans and looked down at the floor for several long moments. When she finally looked up, he was shocked to see the vulnerability on her face.
“Look… I’m not good with…people,” she said softly. “And I’m also not good at admitting when I’m wrong.”
She paused and he waited patiently, wondering where she was going with this.
“None of the people I know would be concerned enough to check on me if I called in sick to work. You’ve lived here long enough for me to realize that…that you don’t seem to have anyone like that, either. I never see anyone coming or going on a regular basis - besides the pizza delivery guy, but I don’t think he counts.”
Killian chuckled dryly. “You’re very observant, Swan.” He paused for a moment, debating whether he should open up to her as she was to him. “And you’re also correct,” he added finally. “I moved here from England when I was transferred for my job, and I don’t have any close friends yet.”
She nodded. “I figured it was something like that. The day you moved in, I was…well, to put it bluntly, I was a bitch. And, as I said, I’m not good at apologizing, so I just let things go on being…uncomfortable. When I saw that you were sick the other day, I thought it was my chance to make things better between us, but I screwed that up, too. I just…I guess I wanted to let you know that you didn’t have to be alone while you were suffering - that there was someone who cared. I…I’m sorry I made things worse.”
“You didn’t make things worse,” he assured her. “I appreciate the effort. Actually, if you think about it, it was really quite comical.”
She scoffed. “Yeah, I guess so.”
“And they do say laughter is the best medicine, so your failed attempts at helping are probably what cured me so quickly.”
Seeing the grin on his face, the corners of her own mouth turned up a bit. “You’re an idiot, Jones.”
He took a step closer. “How about if we start over, Emma? It would be nice to have a friend living across the hall.”
She eyed him, chewing her lip in contemplation. Then she held her hand out to him. “Hi, I’m Emma Swan. Welcome to the neighborhood.”
He reached forward to give her hand a firm shake. “Killian Jones. Pleasure to meet you, Miss Swan.”
She smiled and he was amazed at how it transformed her already lovely face. They stood awkwardly for several moments, until Killian said, “Well, I should let you go. Were you on your way to work?”
“Oh, uh, no. I was just going to get something to eat.”
He rubbed his hand along his jaw, dropping his eyes as he asked, “Would you, um…would you like some company?” Looking back up, he saw her eyes widen and hurried to add, “Just as a friend. As you well know, I don’t have much to eat in my apartment.”
She snorted out a laugh. “You still have more than I do at my place.” Turning away from him once again, she said, “If you’re sure, you’re welcome to join me. I was just gonna go to the diner around the corner. Tonight’s special is grilled cheese and onion rings.”
“Ah, greasy diner food,” he said, beginning to follow her. “You do know if you keep eating that stuff, your arteries are going to be filled with sludge.”
She chose to ignore him as she started down the stairs. “They have the best hot chocolate, too.”
“How much sugar do you add to it?” he grinned.
She glared at him over her shoulder. “No sugar, just cinnamon.”
“Cinnamon in hot chocolate? Sounds…interesting.”
She stopped on the landing and turned to look at him. “If you’re gonna make fun of my preferences for food and drink, you’re uninvited.”
Holding his hands up in mock surrender, he said, “I meant no offense, Swan. Perhaps I’ll even give your…unique concoction a try.”
That meal led to another, and many more. Soon they added regular coffee dates. Gradually, at Killian’s urging, Emma tried and eventually acquired a taste for black coffee, no sugar. Even more gradually, at Emma’s urging, Killian acquired a taste for greasy diner food.
Six weeks after Emma’s attempt to nurse Killian back to health, they went on their first official date. Killian was very happy to discover that Emma Swan did indeed have both a sweet and funny side. They realized they had many things in common, as they talked during their dinner at one of Boston’s most renowned restaurants, then walked along the waterfront.
At the conclusion of the date, they shared a kiss outside her apartment door, which opened both of their eyes to the fact that there was a significant spark of attraction between them. As they continued to date, the spark ignited into a blazing flame. (They made sure to replace the expired condoms in Killian’s medicine cabinet, once it was obvious they were going to put them to use.)
They became each other’s ‘person’ - someone to laugh with, cry with, share everything with, and nurse back to health when the need arose. By the following winter, when the flu made its way through Killian’s office once again, he had his own live-in nurse, whose skills were much improved from the previous year.
By that time, they still had a love/hate relationship…but now, it was minus the hate.

A couple of fun notes:
-Colin was drinking a Dr. Pepper Zero during the Meet & Greet I went to at GalaxyCon in Columbus last year.
-At another con several years ago, Jen admitted she never drank black coffee until Colin got her hooked on it. (No pun intended!)

Smosh summer games:ships
Thank you for your patience everyone, it's finally time for the second part of smosh summer games:ships. I'm definitely taking my time and making this romance a bit slower until it gets smutty but I hope you still enjoy the fluff and comedy with the group
Also a massive thank you to everyone who gave me inspiration for this chapter, I loved hearing from you guys!
Part 2 - Mother trucker, dude that hurt like a buttcheek on a stick
You woke up to the soft glow of morning light through the porthole. As you shifted in the bed, a sharp twinge of pain shot through your back. You groaned softly, stretching and trying to ease the stiffness.
Damien's head popped over the edge of the top bunk, his hair mussed from sleep. "Good morning," he said with a sleepy smile. "How'd you sleep?"
"Morning," you replied, wincing as you sat up. "Not to great, to be honest. My back is fucking killing me. These bunk beds are not exactly comfortable."
Damien frowned slightly. "Yeah, I can imagine. These beds are pretty rough."
You sighed, swinging your legs over the edge of the bed and slowly standing up. Damien climbed down from the top bunk, stretching his own limbs. You both tried stretching for a bit, but the stiffness in your back refused to ease.
"Did you get thoose kinks out?," Damien asked, watching you with a sympathetic look.
You shook your head, attempting a few more stretches. "Nope, but im pretty sure I was kinky before sleeping in the bunk bed"
Damien's eyes lit up as a smile started to form. "Oh I'm sure partner."
You tilted your head, "partner?"
He put his hands up, "well what should I call you then, shipmate? duobro?
"lover, soulmate, better half" you continued.
He froze for a second before responding, "yeah.. yeah I don't think anybody will react if I start calling you lover?
You laughed softly. "No, it's perfectly innocent."
He watched you as you tried to ease your own pain, seemingly working up the courage to say something .
"So.. uhm.. speaking of innocent, How about a massage? I'm pretty good at it, if I do say so myself."
Your heart skipped a beat at the thought. "Are you sure? I don't want to trouble you."
"It's no trouble at all," he said, already moving to sit beside you on the bed. "Lie down on your stomach."
You hesitated for a moment before lying down, your head resting on your folded arms. Your heart raced, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. As Damien's fingers gently brushed your hair aside, you felt a shiver run down your spine.
His hands were warm and firm on your shoulders. He started with light pressure, his fingers kneading the muscles at the base of your neck. The tension began to melt away under his touch, and you let out a contented sigh. "Wow, you weren't kidding. This feels amazing."
Damien chuckled softly. "Told you. I have a secret talent."
He worked his way down your back, his fingers skillfully finding and easing each knot of tension. As he reached the middle of your back, he applied a bit more pressure, his thumbs pressing into the sore spots and drawing out a low moan from you.
"That's the spot," you murmured, feeling the pain ebb away.
"You know, yesterday was a lot of fun," Damien said, his voice low and soothing. "I'm really glad we got to spend time together."
"Yeah, it was," you agreed, smiling to yourself. "I can't believe we almost won. My aim is usually terrible."
Damien laughed, the sound vibrating through his hands into your back. "Well, you did great.. And staying up late talking was awesome too."
"Definitely," you said, reaching for your water bottle on the bedside table, feeling your mouth dry up from the nervousness. Trying to drink while lying on your stomach proved to be a mistake, and you ended up spilling water on your face and it poured down you neck and all over your shirt.
Damien laughed, the sound warm and playful. "Smooth move, you really do have terrible aim, huh?" He helped you sit up, the two of you now sitting side by side on the bed. " Need some help there?"
You giggled, feeling a mix of embarrassment and amusement. "Maybe a little."
He reached for a towel and gently dabbed at your face and neck. "There, all better. But I have to say, you wear water well."
You laughed, "Thanks, I try."
"Feeling any better?" he asked, his tone softening as he held up the towel against you cheek.
"Yeah, a bit," you replied, lowering your gaze while still smiling at him. "Thanks."
Just as you were about to say more, the door swung open, and Courtney walked in with her usual energy. "Morning, roomies! Hope I'm not interrupting anything."
You and Damien both looked up, slightly startled. "Hey, Courtney," you greeted her, still feeling the warmth of Damien's touch lingering on your skin.
Courtney grinned, her eyes twinkling mischievously. "Hey, Damien, I need the room, and y/n for some vlogging. Shayne's waiting for you in your guys room."
Damien pouted slightly, clearly wanting to stay. "Aw man, do I have to? I was just getting comfortable here."
Courtney raised an eyebrow, her smile widening. "Yes, you have to. Besides, y/n and I have some stuff to catch up on. You'll have plenty of time to hang out later."
You couldn't help but smile at Damien's reluctance. "It's okay, Damien. We'll catch up later."
Damien sighed dramatically, standing up and stretching. "Fine, fine. But you better not have all the fun without me."
Courtney laughed, waving him off. "Don't worry, we'll save some fun for you. Now go on, Shayne's waiting."
As Damien gathered his things, he gave you a quick, playful salute. "See you later, y/n."
"See you," you replied, watching him leave with a mix of amusement and a hint of longing.
"I'll see you later too, Damien", Courtney yelled after him.
Once the door closed behind him, Courtney immediately pulled out her camera and started recording. "Morning, vlog! It's Courtney here, and I'm with y/n in our room. We've got a fun day ahead of us at the Smosh Summer Games, ships edition!"
You waved at the camera with a cheerful smile. "Hey, everyone! We're so excited for today. Yesterday was awesome, and I bet there's some crazy stuff planned."
Courtney panned the camera around the room, capturing the cozy atmosphere. "So, y/n, how did you sleep? These bunk beds are not exactly five-star comfort."
You chuckled, shaking your head. "Honestly, not the best. My back is a bit sore, but it's all part of the experience, right?"
Courtney grinned, giving the camera a look. "Well, folks, I'll make sure y/n gets some proper rest tonight. But first, we've got to get ready for today's games."
"Yeah, especially after such a long night of... oh, I mean, the bunks aren't exactly comfy," you said, catching yourself just in time. "But it was fun having a little roomie chat before bed, right, Court?"
Courtney nodded enthusiastically. "Absolutely! It was like so much fun. We stayed up way too late talking about everything that happend yesterday."
You both shared a knowing smile, hoping the viewers would buy it.
Courtney continued, "So y/n, can you believe the twist this year? Being paired up with the fans favorite ships? I mean, who would've thought?"
You laughed. "I know, right? 'The Leg Peggers' is such a fitting name for our team, and being paired with Damien... well, let's just say I wasn't suprised or disapointed!"
Courtney nodded, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "And of course, I'm with Shayne, which is just perfect. But seriously, how funny was Spencer's judge outfit yesterday? That wig was something else!"
You giggled, remembering the scene. "Oh my god, yes! He looked like he stepped out of a history book. And the way he kept saying those courtroom lines... classic Spencer."
Courtney laughed, nodding in agreement. "Totally. And ofcourse we ended up on the same team" She leaned in to hug you with her free arm. "Wish we would have been shiped though but.. good enough I guess.
You both burst into laughter, enjoying the playful banter. "Yeah so true, We're definetly got the star power on our team, 'The Seamen' better watch out".
Courtney grinned, pointing the camera back at herself. "Alright, vlog, we're off to get ready for today's challenges. Stay tuned for more fun and craziness at the Smosh Summer Games"
"Shiiiiiips," you chimed in.
She ended the recording and set the camera aside, turning back to you with a smile. "So, seriously, how was it sharing a room with Damien? He didn't snore or anything, did he? Also, I didn't expect to find you both on like the same bed this morning."
You laughed, shaking your head. "No, he didn't snore. He was actually really easy to talk to. We stayed up late just chatting about everything. And as for this morning, it's so not what it looks like. I was just complaining about my back, and he offered to give me a massage. Totally innocent."
Courtney raised an eyebrow, a teasing smile playing on her lips. "Totally innocent, huh? Sure, if you say so. " She poked your side with her ellbow. But sounds like a bit more than just a friendly massage to me."
You felt your cheeks heat up and quickly shook your head. "I swear, it was just a massage. He was being really sweet, that's all."
Courtney laughed, clearly enjoying your flustered reaction. "Okay, okay, I believe you. For now. But you know, the fans are going to go wild if they ever find out."
You sighed, still smiling. "Well you're one to talk"
Courtney smiled warmly. "Okay you got me there." She stod up to face you, "soooo, how about some sunbathing?"
You nodded, already feeling the excitement of the day's activities building. "I'm ready. Let's do this."
As you took your bikini out from your bag, you couldn't help but replay the morning's events in your mind, a smile tugging at your lips at the memory of Damien's touch and the fact that he seemed to want to stay in the room with you so bad.
You and Courtney made your way to the deck, finding a sunny spot to lay out your towels. The warmth of the sun felt incredible on your skin as you settled down, ready to relax and soak up the rays.A few moments later, Shayne joined you both, followed closely by Amanda and Arasha.
"Hey, ladies! Mind if we join you?" Shayne asked, spreading out his towel beside Courtney.
"Is there a world where I would say no to that?" Courtney replied with a grin, making room for him. Amanda and Arasha settled down nearby, greeting you both with cheerful enthusiasm.
From the corner of your eye, you noticed Damien playing pool with some other cast members. He seemed distracted, his gaze frequently drifting over to where you were lounging with the others. More than once, Anthony had to tap him on the shoulder to get his attention back to the game. It was hard to ignore the way his eyes lingered on you, a mix of focus and something else that drew your attention. Was it possible that Damien actually liked you? The thought made your heart beat a little faster, sending a subtle wave of flustered nerves through you. You quickly turned back to the group, trying to suppress the smile that threatened to form on your lips, determined not to let your thoughts show.
"So, how's rooming together" Arasha asked looking at you and Courtney.
You chuckled, Courtney leaned in, a mischievous glint in her eye. "Actually, we switched rooms so Shayne and I could sleep together. So now, Damien and y/n are sharing a room."
Amanda raised her eyebrows, looking impressed. "Ooh, sneaky move, Court! So, y/n, how's that working out?"
You smiled, still feeling a bit flustered. "It's fine, really. Damien's been a gentleman."
Arasha grinned, nudging you playfully. "I'm sure he has."
Amanda stretched out on her towel, looking relaxed. "I'm with Angela. We're already plotting our game strategy. Not that we need to, we crushed it yesterday"
The group chatted and laughed, the sun warming your skin as you enjoyed the easygoing banter. Courtney put sun lotion on Shayne and ended upp squeezing out half the bottle on his back, he chased her around the deck as the rest of you rooted for Courtney to get away with it.
After a while, Damien strolled over, a playful glint in his eye. "Hey, lover," he said as he approached, his tone teasing.
"Oh, hi lover," you responded with a grin, lowering your sunglasses.
Damien smiled, then turned to the group. "Can I borrow Shayne for a moment?"
Shayne got up turning to you all, "I'm in high demand it seams"
Damien looked at you again, "see you all later," he said, waving before walking away.
As soon as he was out of earshot, Amanda and Arasha turned to you with wide eyes. "Lover? What's that about?" Arasha asked, her curiosity piqued.
You laughed, feeling a bit sheepish. "It's an inside joke. We were just goofing around this morning."
Courtney grinned, leaning back on her towel. "Yeah, just goofing around on the bed together right?"
You turned around and pulled up her sunglasses from her eyes" Oh shut up", you looked back at Amanda and Arasha, glancing in the direction Damien had gone. "We are.. It's been great, getting to know him better."
Amanda chuckled, giving you a knowing look. "Just don't forget about us when you two are off having your inside jokes and deep deep talks."
"Never," you said with a smile. "You guys are stuck with me."
Arasha pursed her lips at you "Okay, loverrrrr"
The group laughed, just then, Angela walked by, her curiosity piqued. "What are you guys whispering about?"
You glanced at Arasha, sharing a conspiratorial smile. "Oh, you didn't hear? Arasha BOOKED."
Angela rolled her eyes, her voice filled with mock exasperation. "I am NOT falling for that one again, man."
As Angela walked off, everyone burst into laughter, the moment lightening the mood and hopefully taking the heat of you and Damien for a bit. After a while you decided to get back and prepare for whatever game was next. You passed Damien on your way back to the cabin. Spencer tugged on his shoulder, "Hey man, It's your turn again".
"Yeah okay", he quickly turned around, talking a shot straight away without worrying about making it, before walking up behind you.
"Hey, where are you going?"
You turned to look at him over your shoulder "Just talking a shower"
He caught up to you, adjusting his pace to walk along side you, "Do you need any help?"
You looked at him with a questioning smile, "Do I need any help showering?"
He stopped, "Oh.. no.. sorry I meant.."
You looked over your shoulder again, seeing the guys trying to get his attention again, before looking back to him. His cheekes were blushed and his mouth was moving without forming any actuall words. "I think they need you again, lover". You kept walking to your room, not looking back to see how he reacted to your line.
You got out of the shower and decided to put on a new dry bikini and some soft shorts and a tank top over it. You went up to meet the cast again and Anthony and Ian waved you over to the ping pong table and the camera started rolling.
Spencer, dressed in his judge attire, holding up a ping pong ball to explain the rules once again."We are once again bringing back an old smosh summer games favorite, PAINPONG. It's just like regular ping pong exept for when you score a point, your opponent needs to lift up their shirt and let you take a shot at their body, if you make it, you get your point." He looked around at all of you, "Got it?"
Angela shook her head, "no, actually, can you say that again?"
Spencer at her, "Frankly, no"
As pairs were decided, Ian and Anthony stepped up first, their match quickly turning chaotic. Ian served the ball with a dramatic flourish, only for it to veer wildly off course. Anthony attempted a heroic dive to return it, crashing into the side of the table instead. Laughter erupted from the spectators.
"Nice one, Ian!" Shayne called out, clapping.
Undeterred, Ian managed to regain control and hit a solid shot, sending the ball skimming over the net. Anthony, with a look of fierce determination, swung his paddle with all his might, missing entirely and spinning in place. The crowd roared with laughter, Spencer shaking his head in mock disapproval.
"Focus, Anthony!" Spencer called, striking a gavel-like pose. "Order on the ping-pong court!"
"It's not a court" Chanse muttered.
On the next serve, Ian hit the ball with precision, and it grazed the table's edge, earning him a point. With a triumphant grin, he picked up the ball and readied himself to take the shot at Anthony’s body. Anthony, shirt pulled over his head, braced himself for impact.
Ian aimed carefully and shot the ball directly on Anthonys bellybutton, causing Anthony to yelp and dance comically in protest.
"Ow, my body! I’m down!" Anthony exclaimed, staggering back theatrically. The group burst into laughter, cheering Ian on.
"Point to Ian!" Spencer announced, adopting a stern judge's tone.
Ian grinned, bowing to the audience. "Thank you, thank you. I’ll be here all week."
The match concluded with Ian as the winner.
Amanda and Courtney faced off next, with an intense match filled with laughter and competitive spirit, ending with Amandas precise aim clinching victory. Shayne and Noah followed, their game was high-energy and entertaining, but Shayne's powerful serves ultimately led him to triumph.
Keith and Damien were next. Despite his usual skill, Damien seemed off his game. His focus kept shifting to where you and Trevor were sitting, chatting and laughing together. Trevor leaned in closer, whispering something that made you giggle and playfully nudge him. The sight of you being so affectionate with Trevor seemed to throw Damien off.
Keith took full advantage of Damien's distraction. His quick reflexes and precise shots put Damien on the defensive. With each point Keith scored, Damien's frustration seemed to grow.
At one point, Damien's gaze lingered on you and Trevor as you shared an animated conversation, completely missing Keith's serve. The ball zipped past him, and Spencer, dressed as the judge, called out the score with a dramatic flourish. "Point to Keith"
The other cast members noticed and Ian called out, "Come on, Damien! We need this win!" But it was no use. Keith’s consistent play and Damien’s wandering attention led to Keith winning the match.
With the score now tied, the final match between you and Trevor would decide the overall winner.
"Alright, Y/n and Trevor, you're up next. Everything depends on this moment" Spencer announced, gesturing for you and Trevor to take your positions.
Amanda laughed, "that's a bit intense dude"
Trevor approached you with a sly grin as you prepared to face off. "Alright, Y/n, you ready to play? I'm so gonna get that shirt off you," he teased with a wink.
You rolled your eyes playfully, adjusting your stance. "That'll be the first time you get a lady to take her top off," you retorted, putting your game face on.
The group erupted into laughter and cheers, enjoying the competitive yet playful digs. Damien, though joining in the laughter, couldn't completely hide his disappointment as he watched you interact with Trevor.
Spencer blew his whistle, signaling the start of your match. The game went back and forth, with Trevor making daring shots and you somehow hitting them expertly. Ian, as team captain, watched intently, offering occasional words of encouragement and strategizing with the others.
"Keep your eye on the ball, Y/n! You got this!" Ian shouted, his voice filled with enthusiasm.
"Whose ball, Spencers?" You quickly responded before hitting the ball back at Trevor.
Spencer, true to his judge persona, interjected "Objection"
You were to busy giggling with the others when the ball returned to you. "Sustained, point for Trevor" Spencer announced when Trevor managed to hit your stomach, earning a point.
Chanse raised his eyebrow, "sustained?"
The crowd cheered and jeered, with Trevors teammates rooting loudly for him. "That's it, Trevor. Do it for the seamen!" Keith shouted. While your teammates, led by Ian, chanted "peg those legs, peg those legs."
As the match progressed, Trevor managed to get a few body shots in, one grazed your breast, causing a red mark to appear. You winced slightly but brushed it off with a laugh.
"Careful there, Trevor, you're gonna get this video demonetized," you quipped, earning chuckles from the onlookers.
Damien, leaning against the nearby railing, watched with a growing sense of poutiness. "Hey, be careful with my partner there, bud," he called out with a playful grin, though his tone carried a hint of protectiveness.
Trevor's determination paid off, and he managed to win a few points. "Alright, Y/n, it's time to surrender." Trevor said with a grin, sending another shot your way.
You hit the ball back, "hey, watch it! You're just jealous of my ping pong skills," you teased back, flashing a smirk.
Damien rolled his eyes playfully at your remark, but beneath his playful facade, you could sense his subtle discomfort. He seemed almost annoyed, was it just because you were losing? Or is he actually getting a little jealous watching you laugh with someone other than himself?
Spencer, playing up his judge role, added, "Another point for Trevor! The defendant scores again!"
Amanda interjected, "You can't just say stuff that makes no sense, like how is he a defendant?"
The game continued with Trevor and you exchanging playful banter and shots. Occasionally, one of you would win a point but miss the other's body, adding to the tension and excitement. Finally, Trevor managed to hit a shot squarely on your chest, causing a loud cheer from his teammates.
"Ey, boob shot!" Spencer exclaimed, high-fiving him.
You rubbed the spot where the ping pong ball hit, pretending to pout. "Alright, you earned it this time," you conceded with a grin.
After the intense match of Pain Pong, where 'The seamen' once again emerged victorious, Ian and Anthony adjusted the points, 2-0.
Later the cast gathered for dinner in the ship's dining area. Trevor gestured for you to sit beside him and Spencer, a playful smirk on his face.
"Come on over, Y/n. Saved you a spot right here," Trevor said with a wink, patting the seat next to him.
You chuckled at Trevor's playful demeanor and slid into the seat beside him, ready to enjoy dinner. Spencer, still in his judge attire, joined in with a theatrical tone, "Ah, Y/n, I see you've chosen to dine with the winning team. Wise choice."
"Are you just always going to wear that?" You asked as you pulled out the chair.
Spencer looked up at you, his eyes fluttering. "It brings out my eyes."
As you settled in, you couldn't help but notice Damien across the table, who seemed to have saved a seat for you beside him after you had already sat down next to Trevor. His expression was hard to read, but you could swear there was a subtle hint of disappointment in his eyes. You had barely said a word to him all day, but you had been preoccupied. Now, you just wished you had sat next to him.
Ian started distributed vlog cameras to each ship. "Alright, everyone, let's capture some great moments for the vlogs during the time we're here. Get some behind-the-scenes footage and b-roll. And everyone," Ian grinned at Amanda and Angela who where huddled together, "make sure you all record some cute moments together."
Trevor leaned in closer with a mischievous grin, his voice low. ""Any ideas for your vlog footage?"
You rolled your eyes playfully, casting a quick glance at Damien, who seemed momentarily distracted by his food. "Oh, I'm sure Damien and I can come up with something."
Trevor chuckled, "Just don't make it too hard for me and Arasha to top, okay?".
Anthony held up one of the cameras, "okay guys, let's just do a toast for the video, the sound dosen't matter, let's just make it look natural.
As the recording started, Noah piped up holding up his glass to start off the toast, " I feel safe knowing that I can be here, be myself, without the presence of a camera.
Tommy interjected, " yeah absolutely, because there is nobody filming right now." He looked directly into the camera lens.
Chance clinked his glass against Tommys, " It really feels amazing"
You lifted you glass aswell, "cheers my deer friends"
Spencer stood up " cheers, now.. now we cheers!" He coughed, Cheers, this is not staged"
Anthony shook his head at you all and looked over to Ian who was giggling. Everybody laughed as Ian patted Anthony on the shoulder.
As the dinner progressed, Trevor kept up his playful banter, occasionally making witty remarks that had you laughing along. Meanwhile, Damien remained quieter than usual, his gaze occasionally drifting over to where you and Trevor were seated. You felt the discomfort in your back returning, and Courtney noticed your subtle grimace.
"Hey, Is your back still bothering you y/n?" Courtney asked, her concern evident.
You squirmed in your seat, "yeah, it's better though"
Shayne turned over to you, " You know, we took the mattress from the top bunk and put it on the bottom. It's so much more comfortable,"
Damien, who had been relatively quiet, suddenly spoke up, rubbing his eyes. "I'm feeling a bit tired. I think I'll head to bed early tonight."
Courtney raised an eyebrow, exchanging a knowing look with Shayne. "This early? What's up with that, Damien?"
Damien shrugged nonchalantly. "Just tired, that's all."
You noticed Damien's subdued mood and wished you could just lean over to him to make sure everything was okay.
As the evening wore on, you couldn't shake the feeling that Damien had been distant all day, his demeanor hinting at something more than just fatigue. You finnished up your food and excused yourself to go and check on him.
Inside, Damien stood by the bunk beds, clad only in a towel, clearly caught off guard by your sudden entrance. His wet hair glistened in the dim cabin light, and you couldn't help but notice how good he looked right now, still glistening from a recent shower. The droplets of water accentuating his biceps and making his skin shimmer in the low light. Just one hand on the towel, without that hand he would be completely naked. It was the first time you had seen him like this, and it sent a slight flutter through your chest.
"Oh, hey," Damien said, his voice breaking the silence, trying to sound casual despite his surprise.
"Hi," you replied softly, trying to gather your thoughts as you took in the sight of him. "I noticed you seemed off tonight. Are you okay?"
Damien hesitated, his gaze flickering away briefly before meeting yours. "Yeah, just... tired, I guess."
You closed the door behind you, stepping further into the room, the tension palpable in the air. "Is there something else bothering you?"
He shook his head and some water flew from his hair to his chest, he looked sad. You went up to him and gave him a hug. One of his hands went up to the back of your neck.
" You know I would hug you back completely but I only have one free hand" he said softly against your ear.
" What so you, oh" you answered as you realised that he still had to hold his towel up. "I'm sorry" you said creating some distance but still holding your hands behind his neck. " I probably shouldn't be hugging you while you're practically naked"
"I don't mind" he quickly responded " you know, in a.." he looked up as he tried to find the words "So, how's your back holding up?" he asked, changing the subject.
You chuckled, somewhat grateful for the shift in tone. You backed away and started looking through your suitcase for something to wear to bed. "Still bothering me a bit."
He glanced toward the bunk beds, his smile a bit hesitant. "Uh, so... Shayne and Courtney swapped the mattresses. I heard it’s supposed to be more comfortable. Maybe, um, we could try that too?"
You raised an eyebrow teasingly. "Are you suggesting we share a bunk?"
He looked down, "only, you know, if you want to. For your back of course."
"Okay.. but maybe we keep this of the vlogs, it could look suspicious". You winked at him as you grabbed a big t-shirt to sleep in. "Can you turn around for a sec? I have to change"
He smiled at you before turning around to face the porthole, "got it".
You started to undress, even though he couldn't see you, it still felt intimate somehow. You pulled your shirt over your head, let your shorts fall to the floor. You could hear him take a deep breath at the sound of your clothing hitting the floor. You put on a t-shirt, it was short, maybe a little bit to short. You tucked your hair behind your ear, "you can turn back around now".
As he turned around his eyes appeared to do a quick scan of your body before settling on your eyes, " I guess it's your turn to turn around". You complied, letting your hands tug at the bottom on you shirt as you faced the door. You heard towel unraveling and he rummaged through his things. "Ehm, I think you have my pants there infront of you" he said.
You looked down, they were hanging on a chair in front of you. " Yeah" you grabbed them and tried to hand them to his without looking, "where are you?"
He put one hand on your waist and used the other to grab the pants from your hand "right here."
You could feel your body flinch at the sudden contact. He's naked behind you, a part of you just wanted to turn around and take him in, but you couldn't. He let go and got dressed before tapping you on the shoulder to signal that it was clear to turn around. He grabbed the mattress from the top bunk and slid it in the bottom.
He got in the bunk and slid under the covers. He wore a pair of pyjama pants and you a t-shirt, together you made one fully clothed person but like this, it felt a bit intimate crawling in bed together. You followed suit, instantly feeling the warmth of his skin against yours. You were face to face, the bed was small so there was no way to adjust yourselfs so you weren't touching.
"So, so what was up today?" You finally asked him.
He licked his upper lip and closed his eyes for a second, " I just felt a bit.. disappointed"
You made eye contact with him, " Was it because I lost?" You questioned.
Damien shook his head in response and let out a small laugh, " God no, do you think I actually care about that? No it was just.. I wanted to hang out with you more. I mean we had a good time yesterday, and this morning, right?"
You smiled back at him, putting your hand on his shoulder. " Of course we did, we always do, I always enjoy spending time with you"
He pursed his lips, " You know everybody just seems to swarm around you, it's not that easy to get time with you.
You rested your head on the pillow and closed your eyes, "well you have me tonight and every night."
He poked you in your side " Oh I have you every night, huh?" He grinned.
You opened you eyes slightly, "you know what I mean."
You turned around to sleep and felt his hot breath against your neck. Your body instinctively pushed up against him as you felt a shiver go through it. " I'm sorry Damien..I"
"You're fine" he reassured, "it's a small bed, we're bound to make contact at some point."
" Yeah, I guess so. I think it's just, you feel so warm"
He sensed your shiver. "You feel cold," he said, concern in his voice.
You inched closer, feeling the heat of his body. "I guess that's perfect," you whispered, a hint of a smile on your lips.
"It feels perfect," he murmured, his voice filled with warmth and care.
"Goodnight lover"

Hi, thanks for checking out my writing!
I write purely for Din Djarin (though I read and rec other Pedro Pascal characters and other Star Wars media). Whilst not all my stories include smut, they usually contain adult themes and language, so they’re suitable for over-18s only 🔞
My writing is extremely detailed and character-oriented, and I research and proofread/edit thoroughly. I never start publishing something until it’s fully written. As a result, producing content takes me a while, but I hope this ensures that my completed works are high-quality, immersive experiences for my readers.
Please feel free to join my tag list.
**The emojis assigned to each fic below indicate moods rather than specific genres and are open to interpretation**
PUBLISHED WORKS:
🔷 Be-All And Endor [406,690 words]
My magnum opus; this is a novel-length slow burn set after season 2. Din has a bounty on Endor and gets more than he bargained for when Reader accidentally almost runs him down with her speeder in the forest. Over 1.6k kudos on AO3. [😍+🥰+🥵]
🔷 Never Look Down [13,160 words]
Two-part mini-series set on Nevarro after season 3, wherein Din falls for Grogu’s babysitter but resolves not to tell her… until a drunken misunderstanding results in some revelations. [😍+🫣 and a hint of 🥵]
🔷 Din Djarin: The Contractor [1,001 words]
An imagine-turned-one-shot that evolved from pics of Din holding a toolbox and the memory of Joel telling Ellie he used to be a contractor. Reader needs a repairman, and guess who shows up… [😡->😈]
🔷 The Long Goodbye [45 words]
Flash fiction in 280 characters or less. An examination of why Ahsoka came looking for Din in ‘Chapter 13: The Jedi’ rather than waiting for him in Calodan like he asked. [🥺]
CURRENTLY BEING WRITTEN:
🔷 Hush
[snippet 1] [snippet 2] [snippet 3] I was assigned the genre ‘secret relationship’ in a roll-a-trope writing challenge, so this fic follows Din and Reader embarking on a clandestine liaison that they have to hide from Karga… because Reader is our favourite High Magistrate’s niece. Multi-chapter; features sneaking around, flimsy excuses, near misses, and furtive smut. [😏🤫🥵]
🔷 Held Is The Seed
[details & snippet] [snippet] A four-part smutty series. When a guy in a cantina claims Mandos make poor lovers, Reader leaps to Din’s defence and lists several ways in which he could, in fact, be exceptionally talented in bed. Din overhears and later offers to prove her assumptions true one by one. [😍->🥵]
🔷 To See A Thousand Things
[details & snippet] [snippet - 1st one down] An extremely smutty, angsty piece based on five firsts and one last. Din has something casual going with a gun shop owner over the years, but they both discover that anything long-term will inevitably transform into something that runs deep. [🥵+😭]
🔷 Aruetiise
[snippet - 2nd one down] One-shot based on the idea of Din and Reader both coming up with reasons they can’t be together, none of which are the same and all of which are idiotic. An argument finally leads to a conversation about it. [🥺…🥹🥰]
🔷 Final Sanctuary
[snippet - 3rd one down] [snippet] Smutty one-shot (will be lengthy) based on a fantasy Din has when his shipmate spills white dip on her chin, and how he manages to figure out flirting and make his fantasy a reality. [🥵->🥰]
🔷 Din Djarin In Jarringly Domestic Situations
[details & snippet] [more details] Space romcom involving a series of encounters in which Din meets the woman of his dreams, but each time, it’s in an embarrassing or awkward situation. [😍😳🥴]
FIC REQUESTS:
I’m very open to requests because having a deadline and someone waiting on me often helps motivate me to finish!
I’m flexible in terms of content, but please bear in mind that smut takes me a lot longer to write, and I lean towards fluff rather than angst (though I’m not opposed to the darker end of the scale). I’m also not a fan of breeding kink (sorry, I firmly believe Din is a reluctant father who loves Grogu but would have to be brought around to the idea of one day having his own) or daddy kink. Otherwise, please feel free to suggest anything that takes your fancy!
Ideally, short prompts or ideas for one-shots are best because I’m the girl who got over 400k words out of “slow burn set on Endor”, so the more complex your request, the bigger the undertaking, the longer it’ll take me to research and write (and the longer you’ll be waiting).
HOW TO SUPPORT ME:
If you’ve enjoyed my writing, please consider heading over to AO3 and adding some kudos to my fics there. Also, please consider reblogging any of my fics/series masterlists here on Tumblr. Both these actions increase visibility and help new readers to find my work long after publication. I don’t have a Ko-fi because I value online encouragement and marketing assistance more than cold, hard cash.
I also see spinoff media as the highest form of flattery, so if you feel like doing anything creative based around the universes I write, rest assured I’ll be here cheering you on and crying over how much I love you! It’s my dream for my writing to inspire others, whether it’s playing in my sandbox with me or crafting something of your own.
Thanks for your support; it means the galaxy to me! 💙🩵
🌀 I do NOT consent for my stories to be copied/reposted on any other site, nor stolen, scraped or reworked by AI 🌀

How long have you been a part of the CS/OUAT fandom?
Since the show aired, but I quit watching around season 3a due to college and came back to the fandom and finished watching the show in the middle of the pandemic in 2020.
When did you start shipping Captain Swan?
When I started watching the show again in 2020.
What drew you to this event?
I did this last year (and that fic is still a WIP, oops) and I wanted to make sure I participated in the last year!!
What inspired your topic?
I have a vague idea of something to do with ghosts of the past. I'm still developing it, as I'm pulled in a couple different directions, but we'll see exactly what comes from it!
If you would like to share a snippet/sneak peek/summary of your fic or artwork, please use the space below.
Ghosts haunt people. That's all I know for sure right now! 😂
What kind of art do you like to do? Picsets, painting, digital, etc? Feel free to give as much info as you like.
I love any kind, but I'm not an artist so idk if my opinions count lol.
Who/what have you beta'd before, or is this your first time? Feel free to give as much info as you like.
Not a beta. I die like Killian Jones.
What are you looking forward to most about participating in this event?
The supernatural fics by all our talented shipmates, the amazing art that is always produced for this event, and getting to have fun with the writing process!
We couldn't agree more! Keep your eyes peeled for @anmylica's ghost fic dropping on July 31st!

@searchingwardrobes Oh goodness! I am sorry I have fallen so far behind on my reading and reviewing, but this was a lovely treat to read while I was home not feeling well. I really warmed my heart and brightened my day. I love the glimpses in the quiet moments CS must have shared along the way but we didn’t get to see in canon. This is an incredibly powerful - I’m just stunned and impressed by how much feeling you can put into a single short one shot!
I love that you mentioned the old song “Brandy” (by LookingGlass, one hit wonders, I believe) I tend to like the sad oldies, so I’ve always liked it, but Emma’s reasons why she doesn’t made me look at it in a whole different light. The fact that Killian understands what she has been through, that he was alone and needed a place to belong for so long as well, it equips him so beautifully to comfort her fears in a way that she can trust and believe in. Their moment here is so heartfelt, so gorgeous, and he even turns the words of the song’s refrain into a promise that can soothe her soul: his life, his love, his lady is no longer the sea - but her. I loved how the honesty of this just clenched my heart too: “Killian shakes his head. “Emma, you said once that you and I understand one another. You, like me, were an orphan. What is the one thing all orphans want more than anything else?” She knows the answer to that is home, and they have become that long for home to each other.
This was so, so wonderful!! Thank you for sharing this with us! It’s a new favorite!!! 💞
I'm back!!! After months and months of creative exhaustion and writer's block, this story came to me one night when I couldn't sleep. It's just a little one shot of pillow talk in Camelot that's a little fluffy, a tiny bit angsty, and a whole lot of tenderness. I hope you all enjoy it!
Rated T
Killian wished for the first time for those garish artificial lights of Storybrooke. As Emma said, he was becoming a 21st century man, and he had come to enjoy the ability to see his beloved in all her glory, even after the sun went down. Here in Camelot, however, he had to rely on his sense of touch alone to map the marks on Emma he had come to know so well.
“You and I, we understand each other,” Emma had said once, and the longer they were together, the more they saw it to be true. Though many a woman had warmed his bed, he still felt self-conscious the first time Emma saw the scars that riddled his body, yet she had smiled in that knowing way she had, and had cheekily said, “let me show you mine.”
His thumb now grazed the puckered one on her shoulder, a form of punishment by a foster father using the tip of his cigar. He nudged her hair aside with his nose, then lightly brushed his lips across the faint white line behind her right ear, caused by a broken beer bottle.
“I thought I ducked in time,” Emma had chuckled when she told him the story, “until I felt the trickle of blood dripping down my neck.”
He knew what it was to make light of a person’s past, as if childhood slavery was just one of those things that happens sometimes. There was nothing normal about it, however, just as there was nothing normal about Emma living in an alleyway at the age of ten ducking from beer brawls.
Emma shifted in his arms with a contented sigh. He wished she could sleep, but since the darkness wouldn’t allow herself that reprieve, at least she could find solace in his embrace. “You silence the voices in my head,” she had told him, pressing her nose to his collarbone. If that was the case, he would not leave her side, though the sleeping arrangements hadn’t made her father very happy at first.
Killian’s fingers danced along the jagged scars along her upper back, the newest ones, from when a skip she was chasing pushed her into a plate glass window. That story elicited a shrug and bragging rights that she only missed a few days of work. Bravado – he understood that defense mechanism as well.
They really did understand one another.
Emma reached around for his arm and pulled his hand down to lace his fingers with hers. She pressed their joined hands to her chest, and he noticed the slightest change in her bearing. An almost imperceptible stiffening, and did her pulse just kick up a notch? She shifted again, this time as if she were uncomfortable.
“Are you alright, love?”
Emma released his hand, and using her magic, she lit the candles in the room. Then she rolled over to face him, her hands fluttering, as if she didn’t know whether to touch him or not. She finally balled them up in the sheet that covered her, pulling it up to her chin.
“Do you know the song ‘Brandy’?”
Killian chuckled. “You know my only knowledge of this realm’s music is you and Henry. Right now your lad is educating me on something called punk? Apparently, it was a favorite of his father’s.”
Emma rolled her eyes. “Oh yeah, Neal loved that stuff. I prefer the classics.”
“Like those beetle people?”
“The Beatles, Killian, and yes. Also Motown, Elvis, Creedence Clearwater Revival. I don’t know why, I just always liked the old stuff.”
“And this song? ‘Brandy’? Is by one of these singing groups?”
“Uh, no, but it's kind of the same genre, I guess. I don’t know even know who sings it, actually. I thought maybe you’d heard it at Granny’s or something. It’s about this girl and a sailor, so . . . “
“Ah.” He nodded, encouraging her to go on. He was glad she’d lit the candles, though he still couldn’t see her well. Well enough, however, to see the furrow of her brow and the way her lips turned down. This was obviously about more than a song. “Most sailors I know prefer rum, though. Brandy is a little high brow for our modest tastes.”
Emma rolled her eyes, which was precisely what he’d been going for. “Brandy is a woman. She lives by the sea and serves drinks to sailors. In a tavern, I guess.”
“Aptly named.”
Emma adjusted her pillow beneath her head and rolled over. She continued the story gazing up at the ceiling instead of looking at him.
“The song tells the story about her and the man she falls in love with. He’s a sailor, and he loves her, but always leaves her.”
Killian is beginning to see where this is going. He shifts closer to her, propping his head up on his blunted arm so he can look down at her as she speaks. With his hand, he strokes her arm gently.
“The chorus,” Emma continues, “is what the man always says to her: Brandy, you’re a fine girl. What a good wife you would be, but my life, my love, my lady is the sea.”
There are many things Killian could say. The first thought that comes to his mind is that the man in the song is either an idiot or a complete cad who most likely has a girl in every port. He’s known the type. People probably assume he’s the type, but he was always careful that his one-night stands had the same expectations he did. He actively avoided women who would be a “good wife.” Not every sailor had good form, however. He could explain all of that to Emma; tell her that the song is unfortunately a common tale, but it’s never been his.
He knows, however, that none of those things are what Emma needs right now. So he waits, without moving, his hand still caressing her arm. Emma releases a puff of angry breath before speaking again.
“I’ve always hated that song.”
“Emma, love,” Killian says gently, shifting onto his back and reaching for her, “come here.”
She comes to him a bit shyly, and he smiles at her gently as he cups her face with his hand. In her gaze, he can see hesitation. Fear. He doesn’t know if it’s the darkness whispering doubts, or if it’s her same old insecurities, but this is one battle he knows how to help her fight.
“My life,” he says, kissing her cheek, “my love,” he kisses her nose, “my lady,” he kisses her forehead, then pulls back so he can gaze into her eyes, “is you, Emma.”
Her eyes well up with tears, and a hesitant smile teases the corners of her mouth. “The Jolly Roger was your home for so long. You had nothing holding you back. Nothing tying you down.”
Killian shakes his head. “Emma, you said once that you and I understand one another. You, like me, were an orphan. What is the one thing all orphans want more than anything else?”
“A home,” Emma breathes without hesitation.
Killian nods, then kisses her fiercely, pulling her to himself, his hand tangling in her hair, pouring into his kiss all his hopes and dreams for their future. When they part, breathless, Emma presses her forehead to his, her smile finally full and joyous.
“So I didn’t freak you out when I mentioned that white picket fence?”
Killian tucks her against him, wrapping his arms fully around her. As he kisses the top of her head, he thinks of the real estate ads he and Henry have been looking at, one house in particular that looks fit for a princess, with a view of the sea.
“Not at all, love. I want that too.”
Emma snuggles further into his embrace, her hand splayed on his chest, right over his heart.
“Good,” she says, with that edge of smugness he’s always found so endearing.
He tries to stay awake, for her sake, but the warm, flickering light of the candles, combined with the softness of her in his arms, lulls him more than the ocean waves. Just as sleep pulls him under, he murmurs against her hair.
“You’re my home now, Emma. My life, my love, my lady.”

CS Fic Rec Monday: "My Life, My Love, My Lady" by: @searchingwardrobes
Second rec for this particular Monday is a lovely one shot by @searchingwardrobes which reminded me all over again just exactly why Melanie is one of my very favorite CS fic writers. In just the smallest beautiful scene between Killian and Emma, there is so much love, understanding, and healing, that it is hard to believe it has so much feeling and impact from just a few perfectly chosen words. Our two faves are sharing a quiet moment when an old song is remembered, old insecurities rear their ugly heads, and yet love finds the way through to conquer them fully. A snippet: "She comes to him a bit shyly, and he smiles at her gently as he cups her face with his hand.
“A home,” Emma breathes without hesitation."
Anyway, I'm rambling, but don't miss this heart-squeezing one shot!

Special Announcement
Hey guys, it's Kazzy here!
I started this blog back in the fall as a fun way to share CaptainSwan content and celebrate such a beautiful ship with such talented shipmates, and I've really enjoyed all the fun this blog has been. However, over the past few months, I've noticed my interest shifting into other fandoms, and running this blog has felt more like an obligation than a privilege. Because of that, I'm stepping down from my role of running this blog.
However, I love this blog and its events very much, and would love to see it continue for many more happy holidays to come, so I'm looking for a replacement who would like to take over running this blog. This would entail planning and organizing holiday events, making posts, finding mods if necessary, and any other tasks related to the blog (or delegation of such tasks.) I'm also willing to still help out as a consultant/graphic designer/tech support/mod for future events, especially the first few as you get the ball rolling.
If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, let me know, because I'd love to see this event in good hands!
Happy sails to you all!
✨ kazzy

@kmomof4 Wow! You did it alright, what an incredibly beautiful, satisfying, absolutely stunning and swoonworthy conclusion to this amazing tale!! It is now firmly cemented as one of my favorites, by the way!! It’s untelling how many times I will go back and re-read it and revel in the wonderful happy ending you’ve gifted to my personal favorite character with this journey of Sir Graham and Ruby. ❤️❤️❤️ That you wrote is as a gift for me just touches me more than words can say. 🥹🥰🥹
Okay, so many things to make sure that I don’t miss here… I loved that we got to visit Killian and Emma again, even though the circumstances of their young Alice being so sick were frightening, you got to see the strength of their love for each other and their children still prevailing and thriving, and you got to see Ruby’s care for them and her own strength come through when she arrived and stepped into the fray.
I also loved Killian’s choosing to trust his new brother-in-law to treat his beloved daughter, and that - as Ruby was - I believe Graham’s tea helped break the fever and save Alice’s life. I love that he was able to do that and have the study he loves make a life-saving difference to his newly gained family.
You had me all emotional again during Graham and Ruby’s conversation in their carriage on the way back to Romney Hall. The cause of their argument that sent her to My Cottage in the first place hasn’t disappeared, but they have seen what really matters in the meantime, needed each other and leaned on each other when it counted most, and you can see that from now on they are going to open up to each other and truly be a team.
This especially though, WOW: “I was so angry,” he said again, as if he didn’t even hear her, too lost in his own memory. But then he looked at her and something in his eyes was shattered and Ruby wanted nothing more than to gather him close and heal all those jagged edges inside him. To make him see himself as she saw him - a flawed man, yes, but a good and honorable one, too, who’d never hurt his children the way he had been. “Do you understand what it means to be frightened by your own anger?”
And these too: “…she’d touched his heart. And changed it.
Changed him.
He loved her.
He hadn’t been looking for love. Hadn’t even given a thought to it, but there it was. And it was the most beautiful and precious thing imaginable.
He was at the dawn of a new day. A new chapter in his life. It was both thrilling and terrifying at the same time. He did not want to fail. He couldn’t. Not when he’d just found everything he needed. Ruby. His children. Himself.
It had been years since he’d felt comfortable in his own skin. When he could trust his own instincts. When he could look at himself in the mirror and not avoid his own gaze.”
And then I love that they each have sort of back-to-back, lightning bolt realizations that they love each other. Not just want and physical need, not just because they’ve made a vow, or it’s the right thing to do, or for his children’s sake, but each other them is in love with the other. Mother is sure how they other got in their heart, but they want them to stay there and they are each determined to see their marriage succeed and flourish. It’s really powerful and well done; beautiful to read!! 🥰🥰🥰
Now I think I am just reciting huge swathes of your text, but this whole segment was so touching and so intensely emotional as well. When Graham really lets Ruby see what it was like in his first marriage - how hard he had tried and yet still felt that he failed - it’s no wonder he wasn’t as quick to pick up on the concerns Ruby had. My heart just went out to him completely all over again. And I love how she reassures him, how she admits her love and he returns it, and how he literally carries her bridal style to their room. 🥰❤️🥰❤️🥰 The whole thing just had me a teary, swoony puddle by the end of it!
“You said we have a problem,” he repeated. “But until you’ve lived through what I’ve lived through - until you’ve been trapped in a hopeless marriage, with a hopeless spouse, until you’ve gone to bed for years wanting nothing more than the touch of another human being…” He looked down at their joined hands and gently rubbed Ruby’s knuckles with his thumb. “Do not tell me that we have a problem. Because to me,” he choked on his words but kept on going, “to me, what we have, this - us, - is heaven.”
“Oh, Graham,” she breathed and threw herself into his arms, her own tears soaking his shirt.
“I don’t want to fail again,” he choked out, burying his face in her neck. “I can’t. I won’t.”
“No, you won’t,” she assured him. “We won’t.”
“You have to be happy,” he said. “Please tell me…”
“I am. I promise,” she vowed.
He pulled back, cupping her chin with his hands and looked deeply into her eyes. Looking for the truth of her words.
“I am happy, Graham,” she repeated, covering his hands with her own. “More than I ever thought possible. And I am proud to be your wife.”
Graham’s lower lip began to tremble and the tears reappeared in his eyes again before they began streaming down his face.
“I love you, Ruby,” he breathed. “And I don’t even care that you don’t feel the same…”
“Oh, Graham,” she cried, cutting him off, and wiping his tears away, even as her own continued to fall. “I love you, too.”
Graham crushed Ruby to him, his lips meeting hers in a passionate dance of love felt and reciprocated. He picked her up, bridal style, his lips never leaving hers and carried her through the halls to their bedchamber.”
And the outing with the children!! You can see how much Graham is trying. How good he is with his children, now that he is allowing himself to be open and share his time and heart with them. Not to mention how steady a support Ruby is to him in the endeavor, and how she loves him all the more for his effort. Nicholas wanting his father to come with him just melted my heart, as did Graham’s kissing Ava’s hand and telling her how lovely she was . 💕🩷💕
Oh and then, his notes that lead Ruby to their bedchamber that night. His confession that he wasn’t good with words, but how it “had all begun with a note” and so he would try. Plus the flowers, all his special flowers! It’s so very unique to him, the gift he feels most capable with, and he’s sharing it with her, using it to profess how much he loves her and how far they’ve come. Perfection!! Truly, just perfection. ❤️❤️❤️
To Sir Graham, With Love Ch. 9
We made it, y'all!!! It's the FINAL CHAPTER!!!! Sorry, not sorry for the first several scenes of this chapter... but y'all know me, the happy ending is GUARANTEED, and I have to admit, I'm pretty proud of this one!!!!
Thank you once again to @jrob64 and @whimsicallyenchantedrose for their outstanding beta services and to @motherkatereloyshipper for her BEAUTIFUL artwork above. I really can't stop staring at it!! It's so perfect!!!!
And also happy happy happiest of birthday's @snowbellewells!!!!! I'm BEYOND THRILLED that you loved this fic so much!!!! I hope this last chapter is the proverbial cherry on top of a huge ice cream sundae!!! I'm posting this ch a little early because Marta is home sick today, so I'm hoping this will help her feel better by putting a huge smile on her face!!!
Summary: After a year long secret correspondence, twenty-eight year old spinster Ruby Jones decides to accept Sir Graham Humbert's offer of a visit to see if they might suit for marriage. Unfortunately, he failed to mention that he was the father of twins, and they are not thrilled with Ruby's appearance.
Rating: M (smut and mentions of physical abuse) There is a love scene in this ch, but according to @whimsicallyenchantedrose - who doesn't read or write smut - it's very mild, more smut adjacent than anything, so it is not sectioned off like the scenes in previous chs. If you still want to skip it, stop reading when Graham places Ruby on the bed and pick back up at the next scene change line.

… I do not tell you often enough, dear Mother, how very grateful I am that I am yours. It is a rare parent who would offer a child such latitude and understanding. It is an even rarer one who calls a daughter friend. I do love you, dear Mama.
– from Ruby Jones to her mother, Alice, upon refusing her sixth offer of marriage
~*~*~*~*~*~
The ride to Killian and Emma’s was anything but comfortable and by the time Ruby arrived, her foul mood was even worse. And then when Graves opened the door and stared at her as if she was a madwoman, she nearly lost her temper completely.
Until she noticed the look upon his face.
“Graves?” she asked, when it became clear that he was beyond speech.
“Are they expecting you?” he asked, finally gathering himself together.
“Uh, no,” she said, drawing out the final word. “But I hardly think…”
Graves stepped aside - belatedly remembering himself - finally allowing her entrance. “It’s Miss Alice,” he said, referring to Killian and Emma’s oldest child, only five years old. “She’s quite ill.”
Ruby gasped, something awful rising in her throat. “What is it?” she asked, not bothering to hide her urgency. “Is she…” She couldn’t get the rest of the question out, just letting the words dangle, her meaning quite clear.
“I’ll get Mrs. Jones,” he said, turning quickly and scurrying up the stairs.
“No, wait!” Ruby called, wanting to ask him more questions, but he was already gone.
She slumped into a chair, feeling positively sick with worry for her small niece but also rather disgusted with herself for coming here to complain to her sister-in-law about something that didn’t even signify when compared to this.
“Ruby!”
It was Killian, not Emma that came down the stairs. He looked awful - his eyes red-rimmed, his hair in complete disarray, his skin pale and pasty. Ruby didn’t bother asking how long it had been since he slept. The answer was blatantly obvious. He hadn’t closed his eyes in days.
“What are you doing here?” he asked.
“I just came for a visit,” she explained. “Just to say hello. I had no idea! What’s wrong with her? She was fine last week!”
Killian took several moments to answer. “She has a fever. She woke up fine on Saturday, but by luncheon…” He sagged against the wall, unable to go on. “I don’t know what to do, Ruby.”
“What did the doctor say?” she asked.
“Nothing,” he said, scrubbing his hand down his face. “Nothing useful anyway.”
“May I see her?”
Killian nodded, his eyes closed.
“You need to rest,” Ruby said.
“I can’t.”
“You must,” she insisted. “You’re no good to anyone like this. And I’d wager Emma is the same.”
“I made her sleep an hour ago,” he said. “She looked like death.”
“And you look no better,” Ruby said drily. She purposefully kept her tone no nonsense and business-like. Anything softer and Killian would break down completely. And if Killian broke down, she would break down and no one needed that at the moment. “You must go to bed,” she continued. “Now. I will care for Alice.”
He didn’t respond. He was literally asleep while still on his feet. Ruby took charge, directing Graves to get Killian into bed while she took over the sickroom, trying desperately to contain her gasp of dismay when she entered the room and saw her small niece.
She was so tiny and pale on the bed, but her skin was flushed and her half-lidded eyes were glazed as she thrashed around, mumbling incoherently.
Ruby mopped her brow, turned her, and helped the maids change the sheets when they became drenched with sweat. So focussed was she on her charge, that she didn’t notice when the sun slipped below the horizon. She just thanked God that little Alice didn’t worsen under her care, because according to the servants, Killian and Emma hadn’t left her side for two days straight, and Ruby didn’t think she could survive having to wake them with bad news.
She sat next to the bed, read aloud from her niece's favorite book of Fairy Tales, and told her stories of when her father was a boy. She didn’t think Alice heard a word she said, but it kept her from sitting still and doing nothing. It wasn’t until Emma rose from her stupor around eight that evening and asked about Graham that it occurred to Ruby he might be worried about her. She immediately penned a hastily scribbled note and sent it on to Romney Hall before resuming her vigil. Graham would understand.
~*~*~
By eight o’clock, Graham was forced to the conclusion that one of two things had happened. Either his wife had left him, or she was dead on the side of the road in a carriage accident.
Neither prospect was terribly appealing.
He didn’t think she would leave him. The argument this afternoon notwithstanding, she seemed happy in their marriage and she hadn’t taken a bag with her, but then again, most of her belongings hadn’t yet arrived from London, so she wouldn’t be leaving much behind. Nothing but a husband and two children.
And good God, he’d just told them he thought she was here to stay.
No. She wouldn’t leave him. She didn’t possess a cowardly bone in her body and if she were truly unhappy in their marriage, she’d tell him to his face. Without mincing words and with great vehemence.
Which meant that he’d likely find her on the side of the road. It had been raining steadily all evening and the road between Romney Hall and My Cottage was not well tended to begin with.
Hell, it would be better if she had left him.
But as he strode up the front walk to the door of My Cottage, soaking wet and in a terrible mood, it was looking more like Ruby had decided to abandon him. Abandon them.
“Temper,” he mumbled to himself. Because he’d never been closer to losing his.
Perhaps there was a logical explanation, he thought as he slammed the knocker against the door. Maybe she hadn’t wanted to ride home in the rain. It wasn’t that bad, but it was more than a drizzle.
Maybe her carriage had broken a wheel. No, Killian would have sent her home in his carriage then. He lifted the knocker again and banged it against the door multiple times.
Maybe…
Maybe…
He tried to think of something, anything, that might explain why Ruby was at the home of her brother instead of her own. He couldn’t think of a one. He reached for the knocker again, prepared to wrench it from the door and chuck it into the rain when the door finally opened.
Graves stood there, his mouth hanging open in complete surprise.
“My wife,” Graham growled.
“Sir Graham!” Graves, exclaimed.
Graham didn’t move, simply wiped the rain from his face.
“My wife,” he ground out again.
“She’s here,” Graves informed him. “Come in.”
Graham finally stepped inside. “I want my wife,” he said again. “Now.”
“Let me take your coat.”
“I don’t give a damn about my coat!” Graham roared. “Get me my wife!”
“Did you not receive Lady Humbert’s note?” Graves asked.
“No,” Graham informed him. “I received no note.”
Graves nodded. “I thought you’d arrived rather quickly. You must have passed along the road. Let me take your coat,” he said again. “I believe you’ll be here for some time and you will want to be comfortable,” the man said softly.
A fear he’d never known gripped Graham’s heart. Had something happened to Ruby? He’d just found his children, he couldn’t lose his wife. As he followed Graves up the stairs, his heart and lips murmured silent prayers.
~*~*~
Ruby sat by her niece’s beside, hands clutched in her lap, murmuring, “Please. Please.”
The doctor had left for the second time that day declaring it “in God’s hands.” And if He was the only One Who could do anything about this, then He was the One to Whom she would appeal. When she wasn’t placing cool cloths on Alice’s head, or spooning luke-warm broth between her niece’s lips, that was.
She heard a noise from the doorway and turned to see Graham. Her heart leapt to see him and she flung herself into his arms, heedless that he was soaked to the bone.
“Oh, Graham,” she sobbed, feeling his strong warm arms around her. She was safe and she could finally let go of all the emotions she’d bottled up inside in order to be the rock Killian and Emma needed.
“I thought it was you,” he whispered.
“What?” she asked, drawing back and looking him in the face.
“Graves,” he explained. “He didn’t tell me anything as I was coming up. I thought something had happened to you,” he said, drawing her close again and kissing the crown of her head. “How is she?”
Ruby pulled back and turned toward the sickbed. “Not good,” she murmured.
Graham glanced at Killian and Emma, who’d risen to greet him. They both looked rather not good themselves.
“How long has she been like this?” he asked.
“Since Saturday morning,” Emma replied. Graham approached the bed and placed his large hand on Alice’s forehead.
He shook his head. “I can’t tell. I’m too cold from the rain.”
“She’s feverish,” Killian confirmed.
“What’s been done for her?” Graham asked.
Emma’s eyes widened with a desperate hope. “Do you know something of medicine?” she asked.
“We’ve kept cool cloths on her forehead, fed her broth, and warmed her when she grew too cold. Nothing seems to help,” Killian said hopelessly. Suddenly, Emma collapsed, crumpling to the floor sobbing.
“Emma!” Killian cried, falling down next to her and holding her as she cried. Graham and Ruby both looked away when they realized Killian was crying too.
“Willow bark tea,” Graham whispered to Ruby. “Has she had any?”
“I don’t think so,” she replied. “Why?”
“It’s something I learned at Cambridge,” he said. “It used to be given for pain before laudanum became so popular, but one of my professors insisted that it also reduced fevers.”
Ruby nodded and turned to her brother and sister-in-law. She marched right over and shook Killian’s shoulder.
“Willow bark tea,” she said matter-of-factly. “Do you have any?”
Killian just stared at her blinking for a moment before answering. “I don’t know,” he stammered.
“Mrs. Miner might,” Emma said, referring to one half of the couple that had been caretakers of My Cottage for years. They had all but adopted her when she and Killian were here for nearly a fortnight while he recovered from his own fever after they’d been reunited. “She always has things like that. But they’re visiting their daughter and won’t be home for several more days.”
“Can you get into their house?” Graham asked. “I’ll recognize it if she has any. It won’t be a tea, just the bark. We’ll soak it in hot water. It might help bring down the fever.”
Emma wiped away her tears, her eyes bewildered. “You want to cure my daughter with the bark of a tree?” she asked.
“It certainly can’t hurt anything,” Killian said forcefully. “Come on, Humbert. I have a key to their house. I’ll take you myself.” Before they went out the front door, Killian stopped and looked hard at Graham. “Do you know what you’re about?” he asked quietly.
Graham looked him right in the eyes, and answered as honestly as he could. “I hope so.” He struggled not to squirm under Killian’s scrutiny. It was one thing to allow him to marry his sister, given the circumstances, but it was something altogether different to allow him to pour some concoction down his daughter’s throat.
But Graham understood. He had children, too.
Killian nodded decisively and led him out into the night. As they strode through the rain, Graham could only pray that Killian’s faith in him wasn’t misplaced.
~*~*~
In the end, no one could really tell whether it was Ruby’s prayers, the willow bark tea, or just dumb luck, but by morning, little Alice’s fever had finally broken and while she was still pale and fatigued, she was without a doubt on the mend.
And by noon, it was clear that Ruby and Graham were no longer needed, and were in fact, just getting in the way, so they loaded into the carriage and began the journey home where they planned to fall into bed to simply sleep.
The first ten minutes of the ride was spent in silence. Surprisingly, Ruby found herself too exhausted to sleep and she couldn’t summon the energy to talk, so just looked out the window at the passing countryside.
It had finally stopped raining about the time Alice’s fever had broken, which may have spoken to the Divine intervention Ruby had prayed for, but as she looked at her husband, who sat with his back against the side of the carriage, his legs stretched out across the bench on the other side with his eyes closed - though Ruby was quite sure he wasn’t asleep - she knew without a doubt that it was the willow bark tea.
She didn’t know how she knew. But she did. And when she thought about the circumstances surrounding the entire situation - Ruby’s uneasiness about Nurse Ratched, the fight with Graham, her flight to My Cottage, Graham coming after her - young Alice Jones was quite the luckiest little girl in all of England.
“Thank you,” she said quietly.
“For what?” Graham said, his eyes remaining firmly closed.
“For Alice.”
Graham opened his eyes then and met hers. He shrugged. “There’s no way to know. It might not have been willow bark.”
“I know,” she said, with certainty. “You were an answer to my prayers.”
Graham’s lips lifted in a tired smile. “You always do know.”
Ruby smiled back and thought to herself how wonderful it was. Just this. The easy comfort and familiarity of being with someone, that one just knew was right. Right where one belonged.
Ruby reached across and placed her hand on his. “It was so awful,” she said, surprised when she realized there were tears in her eyes. “I can’t imagine what Emma and Killian were going through.”
“Nor can I,” Graham whispered, squeezing her hand.
“If it had been one of our children…” Her voice trailed away as she realized. It was the first time she’d referred to Ava and Nicholas as theirs.
Graham was silent for a long time. When he finally spoke, he didn’t look at her but continued staring out the window. “The entire time with Alice,” he whispered, “all I could think of was how grateful I was that it wasn’t Nicholas or Ava.” He looked at her then, guilt written all over his face. “But it shouldn’t be any child.”
“There’s nothing wrong with such feelings,” she assured him. “They make you a good father. A very good father, I think.”
He looked at her oddly for a moment and then looked down at where their hands were still clasped. “No, I’m not,” he said gravely. “But I hope to be better.”
Ruby’s brow furrowed in confusion. “What do you mean?”
“You were right,” he said, looking back up at her. “About Nurse Ratched. I didn’t want anything to be wrong, so I paid no attention, but you were right. She was beating them.”
“WHAT?!”
“With a book,” he continued, his voice perfectly level. “I walked in and she was beating Ava across the back with a book. She’d already finished with Nicholas.”
Tears of sorrow and anger filled Ruby’s eyes. “I never dreamed. I should have seen. I should have known.”
Graham scoffed. “If I didn’t see in the months she was living with us, how could you have seen when you’d only been there a fortnight?” he asked.
Ruby was silent for a few moments. “I assume you dismissed her,” she said.
Graham nodded. “I nearly threw her out the door myself when she wasn’t moving fast enough.”
Ruby snorted. “If you hadn’t, I would have,” she said.
“I told the children you’d help find a replacement,” he said.
“Of course!” she exclaimed.
“And I…” His voice trailed away for a moment and he looked out the window before he continued speaking. “I’m going to be a better father,” he whispered. “I’ve spent years pushing them away. Always afraid of becoming like my father.”
“Graham,” Ruby cajoled. “You couldn’t possibly be. You are so different from your father.”
“Yes,” he agreed. “But I thought I could. I got a whip once. I went out to the stable, blindingly angry, and got a whip.” He dropped his head in his hands and Ruby’s heart broke for him.
“But you didn’t use it,” she said with certainty.
“But I wanted to,” he confessed.
“But you didn’t,” she repeated.
“I was so angry,” he said again, as if he didn’t even hear her, too lost in his own memory.
Ruby shook her head.
“I’m not a small man, Ruby,” he said. “I could hurt someone.”
“So could I,” she reasoned with him. He sent her a dry look and she shrugged. “Well, maybe not you, but I’m certainly big enough to hurt a child.”
He snorted and turned back to the window. “You would never do that.”
“And neither would you.”
He was silent and understanding dawned on Ruby. “Graham,” she began. “You said you were angry, but… who were you angry with?”
He stared at her, slightly dazed. “Ruby,” he said. “They glued their governess’ hair to the sheets.”
“Oh, I know,” she assured him, “I’m quite certain I would have throttled them myself had I been around when it happened. But that wasn’t my question.” She stopped and waited for him to respond. When he didn’t, she clarified. “Were you angry with them about the glue? Or were you angry with yourself because you couldn’t make them mind?”
He didn’t say anything, but that silence told her more than any words could.
“Graham, you are nothing like your father.”
“I know that now,” he said softly. “When I discovered what Nurse Ratched had done, you have no idea how much I wanted to rip her limb from limb.”
Ruby snorted. “I can imagine,” she said. “I would have wanted to do the same.”
Graham felt his lips twitch. There was something comforting and almost funny about their similar thoughts and feelings about the matter. It felt quite good.
“She deserved nothing less,” Ruby continued. “But you didn’t touch her, did you?”
“No,” he replied slowly in realization. “And if I could keep control of my temper with her, I could certainly keep control of it with my children.”
“Of course,” Ruby agreed. She patted his hand and then sat back, looking out the window.
She had such belief in him. It was an utterly foreign concept. She truly had faith in his inner goodness, in the quality of his soul, when he’d been wracked with guilt and worry for so many years.
“I’d thought you left me,” he blurted out.
She turned back to him, surprise written all over her face. “What? Why would you think that?”
“Oh, I don’t know,” he shrugged, “Perhaps it was because you left and didn’t come back.”
Ruby rolled her eyes at him. “It’s perfectly clear now why I was delayed, and besides, I’d never leave you. You should know that.”
He raised a brow at her. “Should I?”
“Of course you should!” she exclaimed, her green eyes beginning to flash. “I made a vow on our wedding day, and I can assure you, I don’t take that lightly.” She was silent for just a moment before she continued, her tone and indignation ramping up with each sentence. “And the children! They’ve already lost one mother, through no fault of their own. Did you really think I’d make them go through all of that a second time? You know me better than that.” She turned to him with a supremely irritated expression on her face. “I cannot believe you thought that of me!”
Graham was beginning to think the same thing himself. How could he have thought that of Ruby? He’d only known her… Dear God. Had it really only been two weeks? In many ways, it felt like a lifetime. Because, he was quite convinced, he did know her. Inside and out. And he should have known better than to think she’d abandon their marriage.
It was the panic. That was all. Panic that she might really have been killed somewhere on the road. If that had truly been the case… He wasn’t prepared for the stab of agony in his heart at the thought.
When had that happened? When had she come to mean so much to him? He’d told himself, and her as well, over and over again that he married her to be a mother to his children. But when she’d mentioned the vow and that her commitment to the children was too strong, he’d felt a stab of jealousy.
Jealous. Of his own children.
He wanted her to want him. Not because she’d made a vow, but because she couldn’t live without him. Perhaps because she loved him.
Somewhere in the passion - in the intoxication of the pleasure of her touch, the sounds of her moans and gasps, in the force of his own pleasure when he exploded inside of her - she’d touched his heart.
When he could look at himself in the mirror and not avoid his own gaze.
They were pulling up at Romney Hall. A footman appeared to help Ruby down. She turned to him and smiled gently.
“I’m exhausted, and you look the same,” she observed. “Shall we go up and take a nap?”
Graham looked up to the third floor nursery for a moment before turning back to his bride.
“You go on ahead,” he said. “I’ll be along in a bit. Right now, I think I want to go hug my children.”
Ruby smiled and turned to enter the house.
When she woke, many hours later, she was surprised to see that Graham’s side of the bed was undisturbed. He’d been just as exhausted as she was, but perhaps instead of sleep, he just needed time to himself to think after the difficulties of the last few days.
Just because she didn’t prefer solitude, didn’t mean that everyone agreed with her. It didn’t mean that Graham agreed with her.
They were two very different people, and if she was going to live with him as his wife, she was going to have to make some concessions to his personality and temperament, just as he was doing the same for hers.
She didn’t see him the rest of the day. Not when she took tea in the afternoon, not when she tucked the twins into bed, not when she ate her lonely supper. After her obligatory two bites of pudding, she got up, not wishing to prolong her meal any longer, fully intending to retire to her bed. But as soon as she left the dining room, she knew she wasn’t ready to sleep yet.
She walked, somewhat aimlessly, through the house until her feet carried her to the portrait gallery. She hadn’t been inside it since that first night after she’d arrived at Romney Hall. She opened the door and gasped in surprise to see Graham sitting in the chair, just staring up at the portrait of Jacinda with the children.
He gave no indication that he’d heard her. Just continued staring, the look on his face bleak and so full of sorrow that it nearly broke Ruby’s heart.
Had he lied to her when he said he’d never loved Jacinda? Never felt passion for her? No. He hadn’t lied. She knew it in her marrow.
But what did it really matter? Jacinda was dead. She was in no way in competition for Graham’s affections. And it wasn’t as if Graham loved Ruby anyway. And she certainly didn’t lo…
But in one of those flashes of insight that might as well knock the breath out of one’s lungs, Ruby realized, she did.
She thought back on the last two weeks - had it really only been two weeks? - wondering when it might have happened. Wondering how it happened. But this feeling she had for him, the affection and respect, had grown into something deeper. And oh, how she desperately wanted Graham to feel the same way.
He may need her - of that she was quite sure, both in the physical aspect of their marriage, but also in the caring for the household and the children - but she wanted him to love her the way she loved him.
She loved the way he smiled, the boyish grin that spoke of secrets and mischief, and as if he couldn’t quite believe in his own happiness. She loved the way he looked at her, as if she was the most beautiful woman in the world. She loved the way he actually listened to what she had to say and how he wouldn’t let her cow him. She even loved the way he told her she talked too much. Because he always said it with a smile on his face. And she loved the way he still listened to her after telling her she talked too much.
She loved the way he loved his children. She loved his honor, his honesty, and his sly sense of humor. And she loved the way she fit into his life and the way he fit into hers.
It was comfortable. And it was right.
This was where she belonged.
She loved him. She needed him. Not a dead woman.
As she watched him looking at the portrait, his words from yesterday finally sank in. He’d said he hadn’t laid with a woman in eight years.
Eight years.
Jacinda had only been gone fifteen months. If Graham had gone without a woman for eight years… Ruby did some mental math. They hadn’t shared any physical intimacy since the twins had been conceived. No, that wasn’t right. It would have been shortly after the twins were born. Just a little bit.
It was possible that Graham was mistaken about the dates, but somehow, Ruby didn’t think so. She thought Graham knew exactly when the last time was, and now that she’d pinpointed it as well, she realized it must have been a terrible experience indeed.
But he hadn’t betrayed her. Hadn’t betrayed her or his marriage vows. He’d remained faithful to a woman who’d banned him from her bed. Ruby wasn’t really surprised, given his honesty and integrity, but she wouldn’t have thought less of him for seeking physical comfort elsewhere.
But the fact that he hadn’t… It made her love him all the more.
Ruby stepped forward and cleared her throat. She was surprised when he quickly turned his attention upon her. She’d believed him so lost in thought that he wouldn’t realize he was no longer alone. He held out his hand to her and she stepped toward him and took it, turning with him to face Jacinda’s portrait.
“Did you love her?” she asked quietly.
“No.” And even though she’d asked the question before, and received the same answer, the relief she felt at the simple affirmation was profound.
“Do you miss her?”
“No.” He was silent for a few moments, just continued to stare at her portrait. “She was sad. Always so sad.” Another pause. “It was worse after the twins were born. The midwife said it was normal for women to cry after childbirth, but not to worry. It would disappear in a few weeks.”
“But it didn’t,” Ruby murmured.
“It was like she sank even further into herself,” he said quietly. “Almost like she disappeared.” His throat worked and his eyes blinked rapidly as he tried to formulate the words he wanted - no, needed - to say. “She rarely left her bed. She never smiled. And she cried. A great deal.” He finally turned to Ruby and looked her square in the eyes. “I tried everything to make her happy. Everything in my power. Everything I knew. But it wasn’t enough.” His eyes filled with tears and Ruby cupped his jaw with her other hand. “It wasn’t enough,” he whispered.
“It wasn’t your fault,” Ruby said. She may not have known Jacinda as an adult, but she knew Graham and she knew her words were true.
“Eventually I just gave up,” he admitted, a single tear rolling down his cheek. “I was so sick and tired of beating my head against a wall. All I could do was try to keep the children away from her when she was really bad. They loved her so much.”
“I know,” she assured him.
“She was their mother. And she didn’t… she couldn’t…”
“But you were there,” Ruby said fervently.
A bitter laugh escaped his lips. “And a fat lot of good it did them. How terrible is it to have one bad parent? And my children were born with two…”
“You are not a bad father,” Ruby said, the vehemence in her words surprising even her.
“It hurt so much,” he whispered.
“What did?”
“When she died,” he explained. “To try so damned hard for so many years and never succeed. To never be able to break through to her.” He turned and looked at her again. “I just needed someone who was happy. Who would be there for the children. Someone who wouldn’t…” He cut himself off and turned away.
“Someone who wouldn’t what?” she asked, sensing that his answer was very important, indeed.
“She didn’t fall in the lake by accident,” Graham whispered. Ruby gasped. He’d told her Jacinda had died in the lake, but she assumed it was an accident. She never thought that her cousin might take her own life. “She walked straight into the water. And I didn’t reach her in time.”
“Oh, Graham,” Ruby breathed. “I’m so sorry.” She was truly, even if Jacinda’s death had made her own happiness possible.
“You don’t understand,” Graham snapped. “That’s not what I meant. You don’t know what it’s like to feel trapped. Hopeless. Stuck. To try so hard and never, ever, break through. I tried. Every single day, I tried. I tried for me. I tried for her. I especially tried for Nicholas and Ava. Everything I knew. Everything everyone told me to do. Nothing worked. I’d try, and she’d cry. I’d try again and she’d do nothing but dig herself deeper into her damned bed and pull the covers over her head. She lived in complete darkness with her curtains drawn and then on the first sunny day in weeks,” he turned to her, eyes blazing, “she goes and kills herself.” He laughed, a short bitter thing. “After all of that, she had to ruin sunny days for me too.” He rose from the chair and looked at the portrait again. “I tried so hard,” his voice, filled with resignation and regret, trailed away for a moment. “And still, every day, I wished I was married to someone else. Anyone else.”
He turned to look at her again, and the tears were gone, replaced with a vehement passion that took Ruby’s breath away.
“Yesterday you said we had a problem,” he said, taking her hand.
“No, that’s not what I meant…” she tried to interrupt, but he kept speaking as if he didn’t hear her.
He picked her up, bridal style, his lips never leaving hers and carried her through the halls to their bedchamber.
He lowered her to the bed and pulled back, pulling off his clothes in haste as Ruby did the same.
“I need you, Ruby,” he said, laying down beside her. “I need you like I need to breathe. Like I need food, water.”
“Yes,” Ruby moaned. “I need you, too.” All she could do was reach for him and give herself to him with all that she was. She couldn’t speak, could barely breathe as he touched her, kissed her, sending her higher and higher until her tears couldn’t be held back any longer.
“Don’t cry,” he soothed, brushing one away.
“I can’t help it,” she cried, her voice shaking. “I just love you so much. I didn’t think… I’d hoped… but…”
“I know,” he assured her. “I never thought it would happen to me. I think I’ve waited my entire life for you.”
“I know I’ve waited my entire life for you,” she said cheekily. She rolled on her back, drawing her with him until he was nestled between her legs. “Don’t go slowly,” she urged.
“I wasn’t planning on it,” he said as he surged into her, filling her completely.
They moved together, but it wasn’t easy. It wasn’t gentle. It was fire. And a tempest. And total reckless abandon. Both of them reaching for that peak that seemed just out of reach, until they reached it together in a cascade of ecstasy that made Ruby arch, lifting them both from the bed with the power of her completion and Graham roar her name as he emptied himself into her.
Ruby collapsed back to the mattress, Graham’s weight pinning her down. Not that she minded in the least. She loved these moments, when they were both too spent to move. She loved the weight of him, the smell and taste of the sweat on his skin after their lovemaking.
She loved him.
It was that simple. She loved him and he loved her. And it was all she needed.
~*~*~
The next week would forever be remembered by Ruby as the most magical of her life. Nothing special happened - no birthdays, no unexpected guests, no extravagant gifts.
But on the inside, everything changed.
The well of happiness was overflowing and seemingly without end. And she could sense the same thing inside of Graham as well.
She woke one morning, pleasantly sore in all the right places, to see Graham, fully dressed, sitting at the foot of the bed simply watching her.
“Good morning,” she said, sitting up and tucking the sheet around her naked breasts. “What are you doing there?”
“Watching you,” he said, an indulgent smile on his face.
Her mouth dropped open in surprise, and she felt her cheeks heat. “That can’t possibly be very interesting.”
“On the contrary,” he replied, “I can’t think of anything that would hold my attention for so long.”
Her blush intensified and she wondered if perhaps she’d be able to convince him to join her in the bed again. But then she remembered he was already dressed and had probably done so for a reason.
“I brought you a muffin,” he said, holding it out to her. She thanked him and began eating when he spoke again. “I thought we might go on an outing today.”
“Really?” she asked in surprise. “You and me?”
“Actually, I thought maybe the four of us.”
Ruby froze, the muffin halfway to her mouth. To her knowledge, this was the first time Graham was reaching out to his children, rather than setting them aside and hoping someone else would see to them.
“I think that’s a lovely idea,” she breathed.
“Good,” he said, rising to his feet. “I’ll leave you to your morning routine and inform that poor housemaid that you bullied into being their nurse that we’ll be taking them for the day.”
“I didn’t bully her… exactly,” Ruby protested feebly. Mary hadn’t wanted to take the position of nursemaid, even on a temporary basis, none of the servants had. Ruby couldn’t really blame them after the debacle with their former governess, but for that reason, Ruby had extracted a promise from the twins that they would treat Mary with the respect due to the Queen, and so far they’d held up their side of the bargain.
Ruby glanced up and saw Graham just standing in the doorway, not moving.
“Graham?” she asked. “What is it?”
He turned to her, his eyes a bit bewildered. “I don’t know what to do. There’s nothing going on in the village today, no fairs or events, I mean. What should we do?”
Ruby smiled gently at him. “Anything at all, Graham. All they want is you.”
Two hours later, Graham and Nicholas were standing outside the Larkin’s Fine Tailor and Dressmaker in the village of Tetbury, waiting somewhat impatiently while Ruby and Ava finalized their purchases inside.
“Did we have to go shopping?” Nicholas whined.
Graham chuckled. “It was what your mother wanted to do.”
“Next time, the men get to choose,” he grumbled. “If I’d known having a mother meant this…”
“We men must make sacrifices for the women we love,” his father informed him, patting him on the shoulder. He looked inside the shop window and saw that the ladies didn’t appear to be anywhere near finished. “But as to our next outing,” he whispered conspiratorially to his son, “I agree whole-heartedly.”
Just then, Ruby poked her head out. “Nicholas, would you like to come in?”
“No!” he said vehemently, shaking his head for emphasis.
“Allow me to rephrase,” Ruby replied, not missing a beat. “Nicholas, I would like you to come in please.”
Nicholas turned pleading eyes upon his father, making Graham chuckle. “I’m afraid you must do as she says.”
Nicholas grumbled under his breath as he climbed the steps, but just before he entered the door, he turned back to his father. “Aren’t you coming?”
Hell no, Graham almost said, but he bit his tongue just in time. “No,” he said instead, “I need to stay out here and watch the carriage.”
Nicholas’ eyes narrowed. “Why does the carriage need watching?”
“Yes, you need to come in as well, Graham,” Ruby said sweetly. Graham groaned. “You need new shirts.”
“Can’t the tailor just come out to the house?”
“Don’t you want to pick the fabric?” she asked.
“I trust you implicitly,” he said. Ruby frowned at him, and Graham sighed. “Very well, I’ll come in.”
“Thank you,” she said, leading them both inside.
Graham found himself on the ladies side surrounded by bolts and yards of frilly and lacey, sparkly and shiny. He felt about as comfortable there as he did in formal wear.
Ruby kissed him on the cheek and whispered in his ear. “When Ava comes out, make a fuss.”
“I’m not very good at that sort of thing,” he said quietly.
She smiled up at him. “Learn,” she said just as quietly, then turned her attention to Nicholas. “And now for you, Master Humbert. Mrs. Larkin…”
“I want Mr. Larkin, like Father,” Nicholas protested.
Ruby looked at him, surprised. “You want Mr. Larkin? The tailor?” she asked. Nicholas nodded. Ruby was silent for a moment, pondering his request and Graham could see Nicholas start to squirm with impatience and anxiety that she might deny him. “Very well then, off you go.”
Nicholas wasted no time at all and all but ran into the other side of the shop. Graham leaned over to his wife.
“You are good,” he praised, whispering in her ear.
A small smile pricked the corners of her lips. “Yes, I am,” she agreed.
Not a moment later, a blood curdling howl reached them and Nicholas ran back in. Straight to Ruby, which left Graham feeling a bit bereft. He wanted his children to run to him.
“He stuck me with a pin!”
“Were you squirming?” Ruby asked, not bothered in the least.
“No!”
“Not even a little bit?”
“Maybe just a tiny bit,” he said, sheepishly.
“Right then. Don’t move next time,” Ruby said briskly. “I can assure you Mr. Larkin is very good at his job and if you don’t move, you won’t get stuck with a pin. It’s as simple as that.”
Nicholas looked up at his father with pleading eyes, and as nice as it was to be seen as an ally, he couldn’t contradict Ruby in front of his son like that. But then Nicholas surprised him. He walked back toward the other side without complaint and then turned back toward them for a moment.
“Father, will you come with me? Please?”
Graham opened his mouth to reply, but then had to stop, his eyes stinging with unshed tears. He couldn’t speak. He was, quite simply, overcome.
It wasn’t just the moment - the fact that his son wanted him to accompany him in this male right of passage - but it was the absolute confidence and assurance that if he followed his son to the other side, he’d know the exact right thing to say and do when they got there. He wasn’t his own father. He could never be. And with Ruby by his side, he knew he could do anything. Even manage the twins.
Graham laid his hand on his son’s shoulder. “I’d be proud to go with you, son.” He cleared his throat of the hoarseness that had crept in, then bent down to his son’s ear. “The last thing we need is women on the men’s side.” Nicholas nodded in agreement.
Graham rose back up, but before he could take a step, he heard Ruby clearing her throat behind him. He turned toward her, but his gaze came to a stop and his eyes widened as he saw his little girl all dressed up in a lovely lavender frock, showing just a hint of the woman she’d one day become.
For the second time in as many minutes, Graham’s eyes filled with tears. This is what he’d been missing. In his fear, in his self-doubt, he’d been missing this. His children, growing up without him.
Graham patted Nicholas’ shoulder, letting him know he’d be right back, and walked to Ava’s side. Without a word, he took her hand and lifted it to his lips.
“You, Miss Ava Humbert,” he said, his heart in his words, in his smile, in his eyes, “are the most beautiful girl I have ever seen.”
Ava gasped in surprise and blushed under his praise. “But what about Mother?” she asked.
Graham knelt by her side and looked over at his bride, whose own eyes were filled with tears. “I’ll tell you what,” he said, quietly. “We’ll say that your mother is the most beautiful woman in the world, and you are the most beautiful girl. And someday, when you’re all grown up, you can believe that your mother is the most beautiful woman, and I’ll still say that you are.”
And later that night, when he kissed the children on their foreheads and tucked them into their beds, Ava whispered.
“Father?”
“Yes, Ava?”
“This was the best day ever.”
“Ever,” agreed Nicholas.
Graham smiled down at them. “For me as well.”
~*~*~
It started with a note.
Later that night, as Ruby finished her supper and her plate was cleared away, she realized there was a small folded note underneath. Graham had excused himself a few minutes earlier, claiming that he needed to locate a book of poetry they’d been discussing during the meal. So once she was alone, she unfolded the note and read the words contained within.
I have never been good with words.
And then, at the bottom of the paper,
Proceed to your office.
Puzzled, but intrigued, she rose and made her way to her office. There, she found another note in the center of her desk.
But it all started with a letter, did it not?
Then followed instructions to take herself to the sitting room, which she followed, being very conscious to keep a sedate pace instead of breaking into a thoroughly inelegant run. The next note was found on the center of the sofa.
And so if it started with words, it ought to continue with them, too.
This time she was directed to the front hall.
But there are no words to thank you for all you have given me, so I will use the only ones at my disposal, and I will tell you the only way I know how.
This time, she was to proceed to her bedchamber.
Ruby headed up the stairs, her heart thumping in excitement and anticipation. This was her final destination, she was sure. Graham would be waiting for her, to take her hand and lead her into their future.
It had all started with a note. A short, but heartfelt note of condolence, that had led her here. To a love so full and all-encompassing, Ruby had trouble containing it. She reached the upstairs hall and stepped forward toward her room, where the door was just slightly ajar.
She pushed it open with shaking hands and gasped.
For covering the bed were flowers. Hundreds and hundreds of blooms of every variety and color, some clearly out of season, from Graham’s special collection. And written in blossoms of red, against the backdrop of white and pink petals…
I Love You
“Words aren’t enough,” Graham said softly, stepping out of the shadows.
She turned to him, tears streaming down her cheeks.
“Speechless?” he asked, with a smirk. “You? I must be better at this than I thought.”
“I love you,” she whispered, choking on the words. “I love you so much.”
His arms came around her, and as she rested her head on his chest, his heart beating under her cheek, he rested his chin on the top of her head.
“Tonight the twins said that today was the best day ever,” he said softly. “And I realized they were right.”
Ruby nodded in agreement.
“But then I realized they were wrong.”
Ruby pulled back, a question in her eyes.
“I couldn’t choose a day,” he said, looking down into her eyes. “Any day with you, Ruby. Any week, any month, any hour.” He tilted her chin up and brushed her lips with his gently, but with all the love in his soul. “Any moment,” he whispered. “As long as I’m with you.”

@piratebento continued from here
The barest hint of a smirk touched Hawkins’ lips when the foolish Heart Pirate did not even attempt to deny his assessment of what Penguin thought of his shipmate as a woman. For all Ikkaku would talk his ear off about how much she loved “her boys,” she had, in a few moments of trusting weakness, used him as a shoulder to cry on. A sympathetic ear when the unthinking comments of her crew turned misogynistic or insulting and she needed to vent lest she inflict violence upon them.
Personally, Hawkins would have loved to have seen her do just that, but his goddess was soft-hearted. It would be frustrating if it weren’t so adorable. Not to mention beneficial to him. It was why he was certain that her displeasure with him would fade soon enough. If she could forgive the constant slights from this fool, surely she’d get over whatever it was she was mad at her lover about.
“I will not deny her talent with her tools. She is an exceptional woman in that respect, though it is not my main interest in her. Unlike others, I see her for more than her job.” This was no lie - of course she was brilliant with machines, but there was more to her than anyone realized. Ikkaku included, he had come to realize.
All the more reason to ensure she didn’t slip through his fingers and into the unworthy arms of another.
Turning more fully towards Penguin, he looked down his nose at the younger man. “Do not presume to lecture me about she does and does not want. I do not answer to you - hers is the only word I find worth listening to. As such, I came here to speak to her and hopefully settle this matter. With an apology, perhaps a candlelit dinner, and a few gifts,” he stated, holding up a flat wrapped box. “She was eyeing this dress before our little lover’s spat. I thought she might like it to remind her that I see her for what she is; a diamond among common stones. After all, that boiler suit might be practical, but it sadly hides her away too much. You may not appreciate her femininity and would rather relegate her to ‘one of the guys,’ but I refuse to let someone so insufferable dull her brilliant shine.”

The picture that’s giving you Johnny Rotten vibes...look closely at the top he’s wearing. I’m sure it’s the cover artwork to The Velvet Underground’s Venus In Furs. I haven’t seen this picked up elsewhere yet - please look up the lyrics to that song if you’re not familiar with it. Very interesting choice, Timmy! 😏🥵❤️
Hello, Anon:
The image on Timmy’s shirt is actually the cover of a book by sexologist Michael Leigh, published nearly 60 years ago, which inspired the name of the legendary band, when a friend of the band found a copy of it lying in the street.
The Universe speaks. ❣️✨🤘✨❣️😜😉

But how can we be part of the solution for charmie to come out? What is my pebble look like?
Hello, Anon:
I think it’s up to you to decide how to best utilize your own special gifts and talents to support Charmie in the way that speaks to you most clearly, to help the solution happen. We are all hands on deck, each with our own contributions, all of which are significant and valuable in maintaining course on this ship. Steady as she goes.
It might be helpful to define your purpose as a Charmie by identifying the values that are most meaningful to you, and to write them in a simple mission statement.
My values are beauty, truth, and love, in no particular order or hierarchy. In my mind and in my heart, they are all equally important. I also enjoy a good laugh and do not always take things so seriously.
I like to use my Charmie pebble to find and share signs of hope and possibilities, to help lift our spirits, and to seek out and defend beauty, truth, and love wherever and whenever I can, with kindness and good humor.
This is my mission statement, as seen in my Instagram bio:
“Noodle-centric seeker of truth & beauty, believer in random luck and the power of LOVE. Call me by your noodle and I’ll call you by mine.”
It may sound silly, but it also helps keep me focused on the values that guide my purpose as a Charmie, which is simply to enjoy the voyage on this beautiful ship powered by love, with all of my Charmie shipmates, come what may.

Please help us welcome @exhaustedpirate back for CSSNS24!
Your Tumblr and other applicable names
exhaustedpirate on tumblr, beholdtherollyjoger on ao3
How long have you been a part of the CS/OUAT fandom?
Since 2013, caught it right at the end of season 3 and had to suffer through the hiatus
When did you start shipping Captain Swan?
Ever since that devilishly handsome pirate got his hair pulled by the beautiful badass savior
What drew you to this event?
I get to write Killian and Emma falling in love in a fantastical way, what's not to love?!
What inspired your topic?
It being the last year of CSSNS, I wanted to write the OG supernatural creatures. Besides, I have never written vampires or werewolves so why not?
If you would like to share a snippet/sneak peek/summary of your fic or artwork, please use the space below.
At this early stage of the game, I can tell you I'll be giving you a range of environments: you'll be getting cozy, sweet and "snowed in" with my werewolf entry and dark, tragic and "spent my whole life waiting for you" with my vampire entry!
What kind of art do you like to do? Picsets, painting, digital, etc? Feel free to give as much info as you like.
Picsets and the occasional simple edit, anything that gives the reader the vibe of the story they're about to read!
What are you looking forward to most about participating in this event?
Reading all the amazing work of my shipmates! Seriously talented people around here!
Totally agree @exhaustedpirate! We are so lucky! Make sure to catch their stories dropping on July 5th and August 16th, and their artwork dropping on July 11th and August 4th!
