Good morning, Lofty! Medical question for you

Ehehe...

I have a blorbo in a lot of pain. He fell from a cliff, broke both legs, one forearm, fractured a rib, and likely has a concussion. He also has an assortment of minor cuts and scrapes from falling through some trees, and a deeper gash in his abdomen from a Darknut. Fairies and potions are available, but in this instance we're operating under the assumption that they heal things immediately, as they are (aka, broken bones stay in place, just fuse together wrong). Wars and Hyrule are there, with a third set of hands for stabilizing the poor blorbo.

The question: in this insane scenario, what is the order of operations, so to speak? What should be treated first?

It’s all about prioritizing. ABCs (Airway, breathing, circulation). Any injuries that show immediate threat to life are handled first (arterial bleed, punctured lung from those broken ribs, that kind of thing). Major broken bones in this instance are called “distracting injuries” - they look awful and are painful but they’re not the priority if other life threatening things are happening.

Based on the injuries you listed I’d probably focus on the bleeding gash first and the head injury, and ensure that broken rib isn’t impairing breathing. Setting broken bones can wait a minute.

It’s “appreciate yourself” hours! Pick five pieces of writing that you’ve done that you love and talk about them! ❤️❤️❤️

1) Meet Sky--not my first long fic but my first I felt like I did a really good job on. 'Sky joins last' is not a frequent story, neither is it common to have him join so soon after his adventure. I loved the sweet interactions with the others. I'm particularly proud of the 'blisters' scene and the curse reveal. Poor baby is so scared and the Chain handles it well.

But also, anything that spurs interaction from others. I got a reaction fic, like I make for others, for my own work! (Thanks @silvrash-797 )

Sky Comfort--Sky becoming my favorite to whump and comfort is a long time coming but after seeing how many little snippets I dumped in your ask box... I needed another place to reread my own stuff when I also want to good Sky Comfort. It's easier to find them on Ao3 than my own documents files.

3) A Knight’s Heart-- This one holds a special place in my heart because of not only Kikker's amazing art but this is honestly how I became friends with Cap'ika. It also spawned my first gift fic and it made for a sweet Christmas that year. Thanks @silvercaptain24. ❤️

4) Betrayal-- Honestly, I just like this one for it's angst potential. The fact the Shadow takes the form of Time and says things that cut to the center of poor Sky’s psyche... and that Sky believes it. There's so much that could be unpacked (after we save the guy of course) for the Chain to need to address.

5) Helpless-- This one is a 'completion of a long-time project rather than it ending up abandoned' for the reason I'm proud of it. Nancy Dear @nancyheart11 gets a good 90% of the credit for me actually getting this one done. Interest in seeing a story told is very motivating for... anyone but especially for me. Validation monkey is easily placated but does need treats once in a while. Hearing that I'd nailed the feelings and actions for what I was aiming to portray in Twilight’s story made it easier to push through my own self doubt and finish and post it.

Speed, for the 3 sentence prompt

The speed at which time seemed to pass was alarming to Tilieth. One moment her baby boy was nursing at her breast, the next he was swinging a sword and training with his father. Days turned to weeks turned to months, and most of the time she kept up as best she could, but lately with her mother’s deteriorating health, she wasn’t able to cherish the time but survive it, and she just wanted this to be over.

(Probably won't stick with this as Artemis's hero name, but it makes a good placeholder. Though maybe I'll change my mind and keep it, who knows XD)

“Come out so I can crush you, little hero,” a voice growled, smashing through a nearby pile of crates.

Warriors flinched at the spray of splinters, and looked around the warehouse, mind going into overdrive as he scrambled for a plan. His enemy was only getting closer, his sole escape route was cut off, Time and Sky were clear across town, and he himself was mildly injured.

All that and he had homework to do when he got home.

“Face King Dodongo with bravery, and your end will be swift!”

Warriors almost rolled his eyes, catching a glimpse of the huge man stalking through the warehouse. The self-proclaimed King Dodongo had escaped from jail, and Warriors was determined to put the scaled villain back behind bars.

“Cryonis,” a voice whispered, and Warriors just barely stopped himself from plugging the intruder full of icicles.

“Ethereal—! Give me a warning next time!” Warriors hissed, and another superhero flicked into view, using her powers to become corporeal again with a smirk on her mostly-hidden face.

“Didn’t want to alert Lizard-Brain over there to your location,” she whispered, her red eyes twinkling. “...Are you okay?”

“Ah, he just got a lucky swing in,” Warriors replied, turning his sore arm away from her. “It’s not too bad.”

“Sure. That’s what you said when you nearly got your arm burned off,” Ethereal sighed, but she let him be when he pointedly gestured behind them at the rampaging villain. “What’s the plan for stopping this guy?”

“I was working on that,” Warriors replied haughtily, a pout on his lips. “You interrupted me.”

“Cryonis, don’t tell me you’re embarrassed I keep finding you in these sorts of situations?” Ethereal asked in what Warriors could swear was amusement.

Warriors opened his mouth to reply, then suddenly threw himself at her, knocking them both out of the way as their hiding place was destroyed.

“Face your destruction like a man, Cryonis!” King Dodongo roared as the crates exploded into pieces, Warriors and Ethereal scrambling not to be hit by the debris.

“I’d kind of like to not be destroyed, actually,” Warriors called back at him, then threw up a shield of ice to block the planks King Dodongo suddenly chucked at him.

“I don’t really want him destroyed either!” Ethereal called, and Warriors very pointedly ignored the flutter in his chest at her words.

She cares if I get destroyed or not!

Ethereal then executed a neat backflip onto King Dodongo’s shoulders, making him snarl as he began thrashing around, trying to throw her off. She quickly drew one of her kunai and stabbed it into one of his scaled shoulders, and King Dodongo roared, grabbing and throwing her so fast that she didn’t have time to use her powers to avoid him.

She hit the wall hard, making Warriors’ breath catch, and he jumped towards their enemy. He blasted ice at King Dodongo’s feet, trying not to panic when he glanced back at where Ethereal was struggling to get up. She had a hand to her head, and Warriors just barely avoided a swipe from Dodongo when he stared a little too long.

He shot some ice at a crate the villain threw towards Ethereal, knocking it off course, then lunged out of the way as Dodongo threw yet another crate at him.

“Ethereal!” he shouted once she was standing, and when she made eye contact with him, he motioned towards where Dodongo was clawing at the ice that had temporarily trapped his feet.

Her eyes lit up, and she shook herself and ran towards Dodongo, momentarily disappearing from Warriors’ sight. He quickly threw some ice at King Dodongo, drawing his attention, and ran around the warehouse, dodging the various objects the man kept launching at him.

A crate grazed his injured arm, and Warriors bit on his lip to stop his cry, throwing some ice in front of him so he could slide under another attack. He ducked under yet another crate thrown at his head, and glanced back at where he hoped Ethereal was.

And looked back just in time to see her, and a solid plank of wood, become tangible again and slam into the back of King Dodongo’s head.

The man let out a surprisingly high-pitched squeak, then tumbled to the ground, unconscious.

Warriors let out a relieved sigh, and slid his way over to Ethereal, who was brushing her bangs back to where they were supposed to be. He smiled at her, and she nodded in return, flipping her braid back over her shoulder.

“Thanks for the help,” Warriors said, and her eyes crinkled at the corners, suggesting a smile behind her mask.

“My pleasure. Besides, somebody has to keep an eye on you when Loftwing isn’t around,” she said lightly. “Speaking of, is he all right? I don't often see you without him."

“No, just helping Deity with a case, he’s fine,” Warriors said as he stepped closer, cautiously stretching his injured arm. Ow. “Are you fine? You hit that wall pretty hard.”

“Yes, I’ll just be a little bruised. I’m glad I could help,” Ethereal said, and stepped a little closer as well. She met his eyes, and Warriors’ heart skipped a beat, his hands suddenly clammy. “Always a pleasure, Cryonis.”

Then she disappeared from his sight.

Warriors glanced around, hoping, despite how unrealistic it was, that she would come back. Then he sighed, and pressed some snow to his cheeks, hoping the heat in his face was just from the battle.

Zelda smiled down at the baby in her arms. She couldn’t stop looking at him, so soft and precious and beautiful and helpless. He had her blue eyes, wisps of darker hair from his father, and every fiber of her being sang with joy at the mere sight of him.

Malon cooed, looking at the little one. “Ooooh, he’s adorable, Your Majesty! Congratulations!”

Link nodded in approval as well, face tender as he looked at the child.

Malon’s mood shifted, though, as she huffed. “I still think it’s ridiculous that you can’t just take time to be with your baby.”

“She does have to rule a kingdom,” Link pointed out.

“Can’t her husband be useful?!” Malon interjected. “You helped with Navi.”

Zelda tried to appease her friend. “It’s all right, Malon. His duties aren’t exactly—”

“His duties center entirely around you and your family,” Malon interrupted, crossing her arms. “No gentleman would just leave his lady doing all the hard work and not being able to spend time with her child.”

Link tried to appease his wife as she grew more fired up, but nothing would settle her, and she finally said, “Oh, that’s it! We should just kidnap the queen and the prince and be done with it!”

Zelda laughed. Honestly, a vacation at Lon Lon Ranch did sound nice.

I've been curious about this for a while, actually. What's prompted Arpeggio in your ao3 user name? ❤️❤️❤️

There’s more then one reason for that actually!

When I got my ao3 account I wanted people on both this blog and my main (fun fact, this is a sideblog) to be able to find it, so I took parts from both usernames to make Skyward_Arpeggio.

But the reason for arpeggio is because when I was deciding what I wanted my tumblr username to be, I had two criteria: something musical, and something at least somewhat related to my name. And arpeggio fit perfectly, so there we go :)
