“I lost my entire family just towards the end of the second world war - four brothers, three sisters and my parents. There wasn't foster care in those days. I was sent to a farm, and when I was older I had to work; earn my keep so to speak. At sixteen they gave me £10, an address for a boarding house and that was it. Out in the world, on my own.
My first job was working as a message boy at the co-op. I took myself to night school soon after and did a variety of different roles after that: I was called up and served as a chef in the army, I taught in France. I even got a calling and went into the ministry for a while. When I was working in London I helped to start an international charity. A friend of mine needed money to keep his mission in the Philippines going. And that's where my passion for fundraising started.
I’ve worked in the hospice movement for over 40 years. I helped set up St. Gemma’s. I’m an Ambassador now, giving talks, helping with fundraising events and engaging with the community. It’s very much a Yorkshire project which has gone worldwide. A hospice is not a place to be scared of. The word means place of safety, place of care. Our motto has always been ‘Love knows no end.’ That’s one thing which we’ve always tried to maintain.”

Look into my eyes oh young one. What do see? My soul longs to see the smile on your face light up a room when you walk in. It longs for your beauty to be more than physical looks but for it to to be deeply rooted in Jesus that no man can steal it. I've walked my journey, now it's time to wake yours. I'll be here every step of the way.

Hey, I really liked your post about EA. I have ranted to others around me about my thoughts re: diversity and EA, but I haven't had the courage to post about it online. You practically took the words out of my mouth, so thanks for that. :)
Oh, and this is coming from a middle-class Asian who has grown up/is growing up in New Zealand, surrounded mostly by white people.
Thanks for your feedback! I'm pleasantly surprised to see that I'm not the only one who felt this way. I was really hesitant on posting my thoughts as well, but I just got a little sick of it last night. I think, no matter what side of an issue we're on, we should feel free to speak up. I think that's what bugged me the most; there were all these posts demanding more diversity and very little saying, "Hey, they casted the best people for the job." So far it looks like the dissenting opinions I've been getting back from my post are very respectful and kind, so it's good to know that even when people disagree, we can still speak up.
