❝ FUCK... YOU. ❞ THE WORDS ARE SNARLED THROUGH gritted teeth and labored breaths. awfully bold retort coming from the person who can barely stand — their legs shake violently under the strain of holding up their body, even with their arm slung over bakugou's shoulder.

it was stupid to go into this fight alone. she was supposed to take hector with her to this meeting that they all knew would be a trap — there would be way too many yakuza gunmen there to fight alone, even after all of her extra training. but seph never briefed him on the mission; she went alone, stepped into a warehouse with a briefcase full of counterfeit yen and a mind that could not stop thinking of aya bleeding out in her arms.

maybe she went in alone because she knew what was likely to happen — or maybe she was just cocky. regardless, once the guns came out, persephone exploded into action even though she knew how badly outnumbered she was. it ended with half of them dead, one of her prosthetic arms torn away, a bullet in her leg and several cracked ribs from getting her shit kicked in miserably by the rest of them.

the rest was a bit of a haze — they could barely see through the blood in their eyes, but they heard gunshots, shouting, then sounds that were far too loud to be gunshots, rocking the warehouse's flimsy walls with their power. like someone came in and lobbed a stick of dynamite.

... mother fucker.

once the action died down, they were hoisted up onto their feet, and though they could barely see through the blood in their eyes, they'd know that voice anywhere.

now, all is quiet except for the shuffle of footsteps and persephone's ragged breaths. despite their initial protests, they lean into bakugou's support to avoid collapsing and bringing him down with them. ❝ what the hell are you doing here? ❞

You never do, he wants to say, but there is something new to Bakugou's words. Something new, something that demands Izuku turn his head and take the other's hand in his.

"Hey," he calls for attention quietly and with a gentle squeeze to Katsuki's fingers, "I'm here. With you, yeah?" It says as much as it doesn't if not more; I'm with you, I'm yours, I will always be. So breathe. "We can go sit down outside," Izuku then points towards a glass door that opens to the terrace and the gardens behind it, "Have some alone us time, huh?"

With classes over for the day for him, Izuku expects the room to be empty. It's not, and, for the briefest moment it takes his senses to process everything, the man freezes with his hand on the door handle.

Even if he wanted to, Izuku couldn't express his relief in any more obvious way, head thrown back as he releases a breath. Danger Sense would really come in handy here...

"You can't just barge in like that! You almost gave me a heart attack!"

IT'S IZUKU'S BIRTHDAY! & @loveheir said: He’s crashing at the nerd’s apartment cause his is shitty and getting ‘renovated’ right now. At least that’s what he told Deku when showing up to his place the day before. His couch sucks ass, but he’s willing to put his back through it for a few days. The morning of Izuku’s birthday he gets up early. He called Izuku’s agency asking if the nerd was scheduled to work, and if he was to take him off the roster. Not everyday he pulls his weight like that, but Deku should have his birthday off. For everything he gives, this he deserves. Getting to work, he pulls all the stops in making top tier breakfast, all dishes he’s seen make the nerd’s eyes light up. Afterward he’s going to pester him to go the comic store, they can browse for some All Might comics, then they’ll hit a few more nerd stores. Lastly they’ll have dinner at a katsudon place according to several websites is top tier. He’ll leave Izuku to make judgement call. For now though he focuses on getting breakfast on the table. When he sees the nerd, he’ll throw the dish towel at him before greeting him. “Happy birthday nerd. Eat up before I give your share to Pancake.”

Every year, when asked about his birthday, Izuku says he doesn't want anything. I've already got everything I need, he waves his hand and smiles, happy to have friends who want to make him feel special on this day, knowing they're not going to accept his answer and not get him something. Every year, he accepts the gifts with a wide grin, remembering how good it feels, but today's the first time someone catches him so early.

"Wha—?" Eyes going wide, he looks from Katsuki, to the table, to Katsuki again. If he knew the other's plans, he'd have at least changed from his pajamas before walking into the kitchen. "I didn't—Give me a second!" He stumbles for words just as he stumbles back inside his room to grab a bathrobe.

"Don't you dare feed Pancake that!" He then calls, just in case. "He'll get sick and you'll be paying the vet bills!"

he made them dinner. a dish that's packed with veggies and protein, and of course he didn't skimp out on flavor. sitting across from each other, katsuki nudges the nerd with his foot under the table. "tell me 'bout your day." he demands. "what shit did the brats throw at you today?"

It's only after saying this that Izuku realizes that, no, Katsuki does not have spies in the UA now, and it's just a figure of speech. "Shit, well," the former hero laughs, shock morphing into amusement on his own behalf, "Remember when we had to do those physical tests? With throwing balls and stuff? Well, one of the kids miscalculated, and you know the rest of the story already..."

Looking back now, hearing what should have been obvious and remembering what the past him often did, Izuku can see why Katsuki would worry. It makes him feel bad, and knowing that he has no reason to, paradoxically makes it worse. "I'm sorry, Kacchan. I didn't think you'd... I didn't mean to worry you, okay?"

Whatever got into Izuku today, it's molded him into a much more confident man. With his arms lazily crossed over his chest and head tilted to the side, he stands motionless despite the closeness between the two of them, as if assessing the other man. "Where is this headed?"

It's not that Izuku doesn't know what Katsuki is talking about, and even if he didn't, the bunny in question never fails to remind him of its existence and importance. No, he knows perfectly well it's about Pancake, not just some pancake. He's just in a mood to fuck with Katsuki.

Why doesn't that surprise him? Izuku takes in a deep breath, releases is slowly, and then plasters an apologetic smile over his face.

"Sorry about him," he turns towards the press team and, having grabbed Katsuki by the wrist so he doesn't get any more stupid ideas, pulls him away. "You can't just say you hate everyone, Kacchan! These guys are just doing their jobs, trying to help us brief."

This time Izuku offers his friend a sigh. Nothing close to defeated though! If anything, it resembles disappointment.

"There are rules to bribing your friend's pets," he informs before picking the bunny up (but not before he eats the treat. Izuku's not a monster!). "Enough outside time for you," he addresses Pancake, and then Katsuki: "And don't call him a rabbit, he's a baby, and he has a name!"

"Huh. Wonder where he gets that from," Katsuki mutters, eyeing Izuku accusingly. He picks up Pancake and sets the soft bunny on his lap. Just as Izuku noted, he opens his hand to give him a treat.

"You're done with these. Can't have ya eatin' too many at once." He pokes the rabbit's side before smirking at Izuku.

"So what if I'm bribing? There ain't rules to earning a rabbit's favor." Leaning back on his palm, he watches the other.

Yeah, right. Izuku shakes his head in disappointment, if not exaggeratedly so, in his friend and in his optimism. As if he's going to let Katsuki win here.

"Pancake likes you," he begins, hands propped on his hips like he's preparing for a real fight here, "Because he's a silly little guy with a big heart." Just like you, Izuku, someone could say, but this is the last thing the hero would think about right now. "And you're bribing him with food."

Katsuki grins, sharp canines flashing. Totally expected that reaction.

"Nah. Pancake likes me already. I ain't goin' through that whole shitty process again," he declines just to be a shit.
