The day wasn’t special when it began. You woke up late in the morning, not expecting much to happen. You had been home for almost a week now and you were beginning to get bored with holidays. 

It was nice. To relax. However, you had never been someone who could sit still for a prolonged time.

So, sitting in your kitchen in pyjama shorts and an old t-shirt belonging to your boyfriend, you ate toast in silence, staring ahead of your but not focusing on much of anything. You may have screamed when three loud knocks echoed through the house from the front door. It wasn’t long before the door was opening and the sweet sound of Yeosang’s soft chuckle could be heard from behind you. You dropped the piece of toast in to cover your face with both hands but you couldn’t help the smile that came over your lips.

Yeosang had always had a key to your apartment, especially since he only lived down the corridor himself. The two of you had decided not to move in with each other just yet since you both loved your own spaces. But you weren’t far from each other and, if you were being honest, it wasn’t like the two of you weren't in each other’s apartments most of the time anyway.

He was dressed. A pair of black fitted jeans with one rip in the left thigh, a black turtleneck sweater covered with his (and your) favourite leather jacket. The necklace around his neck matching the one around yours.

“You’re fancy today.” You raised an eyebrow.

“You're not.” He winked, coming to take a seat at the kitchen bar next to you.

He was right. You weren’t dressed at all. Plus, the shirt (his shirt) had holes in it. You didn’t have to look down to be reminded of the bunny slippers residing on your feet. You decided to change the topic, a blush rushing over your cheeks.

“What are you doing here? I thought you were working today?” 

“They cancelled.” He smiled, leaning forward and. brushing a piece of hair behind your ear. “I also want to take you out to make the most of it. So! Go get dressed!” When you stood so did he, bringing you into his arms and pressing a kiss to your forehead. He also pinched your butt when you turned to leave, sending you a wink and receiving an annoyed nose scrunch from you.

The day was fun now you were outside. It was cold outside, the clouds covering the sun and the sky. You had taken the time to match your outfit to Yeosang’s, fitted in your own black leather jacket and black jeans. You did have a white turtleneck jumper on however, you just didn’t own a black one.

When you had come back to Yeosang after getting dressed, he had laughed. It wasn’t a mean laugh; it was one of adoration. He looked at you with wide eyes and a grin had bloomed on his face. The two of you created a melody with your laughs, coming together in a symphony of smiles.

He had taken your hand in his, leading you through the streets with a proud smile and a cheeky glint in his eyes.

“Where are we going?” You had asked, matching his walking tempo, now holding his hand with both of yours.

He simply winked at you. “You’ll see.” 

The two of you weren’t walking fast and you stopped many times to point out things you thought were pretty during your walk. You had picked a white flower – one you didn’t remember the name of – and placed it behind his ear when he wasn’t looking.

“What’s this?” He laughed.

You gleamed up at him, his face in your hands. “Now we match. Black and white.”

He shook his head but made no move to remove the white flower.

The day was spectacular as you stood at the entrance of an art museum; you loved museums and you loved art. You couldn’t keep the excitement from bubbling out of you, shallowly jumping up and down in place.

“A museum?”

He shrugged. “You said you wanted to come while the Rembrandt exhibition was still here.”

You pressed a kiss to his lips before taking off into the museum, pulling him behind you.

Inside the museum it was quiet but you didn’t mind that. You and Yeosang spoke to each other in whispers, exchanging grins and gazes full of wonder. You took your time in the museum, looking around all the different exhibits. 

You had started a small speech, telling Yeosang all about the artists you knew and what you liked about certain pieces of art. He had slipped his arms around your waist as you walked slowly, just listening to you.

When you got to the Rembrandt exhibit the museum had an hour left until it closed. You couldn’t find it within yourself to care.

Yeosang started playing with your fingers as you walked, a small habit he had when he was nervous. You didn’t think much of it, happy to just be in his arms, looking around at the works of an artist you loved.

The painting was a portrait of Maria Trip. You don’t know why you stopped at this one in particular. Your little speech about Rembrandt fading from your lips as you admired it.

“Why’d you stop?” Yeosang whispered nest to your ear, his arms slipping from around your waist.

You shrugged. “I wonder what it was like to be her.” Your head tilted to the side slightly. “Look at all the pearls she’s wearing.”

Silence surrounded you for a while until Yeosang spoke.

“I can’t give you pearls-” his voice came from behind you, soft and just above a whisper, “-but, I can give you this.”

When you turned, he was in fact behind you. On one knee. His eyes met yours and you could see a mirage of emotion flowing through them. Was this why he was getting nervous? You had frozen, hands flying to your mouth in shock. His hands shook slightly as he opened the little box. 

It was a ring.

Even though you were in public, it didn’t feel like you were being watched.

“You’re the most beautiful piece of artwork in here. It would be a privilege to admire you for the rest of my life.”

The day was magnificent as it ended, you had never said yes quicker.
