Just another NaruMitsu anon passing through. While I love Narumitsu, I’m also a huge multishipper who dabbles in all sorts of ships (including NaruMayo) and it feels extremely awkward when so many AA blogs praise one of your ships while spitting on people for enjoying a ship that you also like. We need more people who can be both passionate about their ships and kind to other people who like different things, keep up the good work 👍
Thank you so very much!
All this outpouring of positivity is making me so happy. So glad we can all agree on this.

Next attempt: Shelly de Killer and Pearl Fey!
Shelly de Killer:
- I hate them / I don’t like them / I’m neutral / I’m ok with them / I like them / I love them / I LOVE THEM SO MUCH
- favorite thing about them: THE PERFECT COMBINATION OF ELEGANCE AND MURDER. HE’S JUST SO GREAT!!! I love the aura of absolute calm and aesthetic interlaced with imminent threat. Well, not absolute calm. He can certainly lose his patience. But he's not really one to raise his voice. It’s a quiet and terrifying anger if invoked. The veneer of calm is part of the gentleman aesthetic; the hint of anger is the imminent threat. Outside of his being angry, however, it’s still the same: even if he’s not angry at you, his mere job makes him intimidating. That’s inescapable. But his polite demeanour is still there. The combination of those things is fantastic. He will kill you if he must but damn if he isn’t going to do it in style.
- least favorite thing about them: I actually did have a reply to this come to mind, possibly connected to AAI2, and yet it slipped away shortly thereafter and now I cannot recall it, and after losing the actual reply I had I’ve honestly sat here struggling to come up with something. Like there were moments when I enjoyed his character a bit less, but... Hard to just list off a least favourite thing from that.
- ship(s): ...Oldbag. You have done this; you have planted this idea in the mind of my friend and I. Like okay I don’t actually ship it in canon OR in your fic, but the thought of it is so out there, and therefore amusing. And then my friend came up with this amazing JFA au running with the idea so, I do “ship” it specifically in the context of her au ahahaha. I love my friend’s idea of... him liking her and her not really being aware of it? Because it’s a reversal of what’s usually the case in canon. Let a guy be interested in her for once and have her be unaware of it. XD
Also just gonna tack this fic-related message(s) on randomly too but FOR CONTEXT TO BE FAIR THIS WAS before I read the ending which actually does address the death of Wendy’s husband and before the actual dynamic between Oldbag, Shelly and Benny had been elaborated on by the story:
(I ACTUALLY MEANT IN THE SENSE OF HAVING BEEN HIRED BY SOMEONE TO KILL MR OLDBAG BUT THEN MY FRIEND WAS LIKE “HOW DO I MAKE THIS ABOUT THE SHIP” LOL). Okay but maybe Mr Oldbag could have been an important figure in an au that someone would have reason to assassinate 🤔 :P
- BROTP(s): I guess Sirhan Dogen is the main candidate for this, although I haven’t thought about their interactions too much!
- NOTP(s): I don’t think I’ve really seen any Shelly shipping haha...
- Game/case where I like them more: Gonna go with standard JFA case for this one, but AAI2 case 1 is also just really awesome. Particularly the whole hostage thing to help Edgeworth’s investigation out.
- Random headcanon: Not headcanons about the character himself but rather in relation to him; I like to imagine how scandalised Phoenix would be if he heard that yes, Shelly de Killer, that guy Edgeworth and law enforcement at large are so intent on apprehending? The guy who kidnapped Maya? Edgeworth totally spoke kinda casually with the guy a bunch of times, and was even assisted by Shelly (you could even stretch this to perhaps argue that he COOPERATED with Shelly). Even saw Shelly face to face during AAI2 and had a chat with him. Well, yes, context, but... :P Especially without context, Phoenix would not be pleased. Not that Edgeworth would readily offer up this information to him. I think Edgeworth is in a slightly awkward position with regards to Shelly post-AAI2, at least slightly more than before, given how much help Shelly was and now having actually interacted with him in person.
Another thing I was thinking of recently is that... I think that there could be a very secretive and select group of individuals working for law enforcement SPECIFICALLY dedicated to trying to arrest Shelly and gathering as much info as possible. A highly skilled and dedicated team of say 5-10 people, and all of the information they deal with, and about them, is absolutely top secret. The group itself is secret, even, because this is dangerous work. They’re all about trying to track him down, analysing all the data they’ve gathered, you name it. Not that they have much success. But they would also over time probably veer more towards less conventional methods. Delving deeper into the criminal underworld for information, going undercover... Honestly? The closest they might come to actually getting a hold of the guy in person... is to go undercover as a client. Finding out how to hire him. It’s an awfully dangerous game they would be playing and their covers would have to be airtight.
- Unpopular opinion: I wasn’t sure how I felt about him sparing Simon. I really gotta replay AAI2, get my thoughts in order. This ties in with the “least favourite” question but I wasn’t too sure about the whole thing where Simon was considered to have broken the bond of trust for not saying it was a double and yeah I just gotta, replay the game haha. But... if a client normally recounts the ENTIRETY of the circumstances to him, expected not to leave anything out, as opposed to a simple “I want this person dead”, then I suppose that makes sense....Actually, wrong question for this but I’ll add it as a headcanon anyway: when Shelly meets with a client, part of establishing that bond of trust is kind of like the client “confiding” everything thoroughly to him, like telling a story of everything connected to, and culminating in the assassination request. He wants to know not only the who, but the why. What’s the client’s connection to and history with the target? Was there a time when they got along, were they always enemies? Is it just a political or corporate matter? It’s not about justification - Shelly doesn’t care how “justified” a client is and he certainly doesn’t judge. He just listens. None of the added information is necessary to complete the job, but divulging so much information is a demonstration of trust and helps make it clear this person is real with motivations and not an undercover person trying to arrest him or something like that. It’s also kind of an added bonus to get to hear some of the tales of intrigue that result from such meetings with clients. In the context of something like this, omitting the fact that the “president” was a double is a very serious offense.
I was gonna go on another tangent but this is already long enough lol.

Pearl Fey
- I hate them / I don’t like them / I’m neutral / I’m ok with them / I like them / I love them / I LOVE THEM SO MUCH
(I do love her! Just not with as much intensity as some of the other characters this series has).
- favorite thing about them: She is adorable incarnate, she is strong, and very cute
- least favorite thing about them: The fact that she was not allowed to grow as a character at all post-timeskip. I have so many complaints about older!Pearl. They took a ~17 year old character and forced her into the exact same role and characterisation as a ~nine year old! She is restricted and kept the same, and it feels deeply unnatural and kind of uncomfortable to me. The whole thing around her height too, like... why did they go out of their way to make her so short and tiny? To reinforce that we are still supposed to see her as a 9 year old? I love trilogy Pearl, I love her so much, but I find older Pearl so boring and so uninspired on top of that undercurrent of discomfort. They did nothing new with her, but in a uniquely and unnaturally limiting way in the sense that she is trapped as her trilogy self. After the timeskip the games appear to have a weird preoccupation with infantilising her because I guess they think connecting back to the trilogy (instead of doing something new) is the only way to keep us caring about her??
And like... Yes, Pearl embodies and encapsulates the cuteness and innocence of children. That’s a big part of her character and I love her for it, and I would therefore be reluctant to let that go. There’s nothing wrong with preserving stuff like that when she’s older. All I’m asking is for the games to actually put at least one new spin on her; SOMETHING that can distinguish her from her younger self so I’m not left feeling like she did not change at all in nearly ten years. A slightly different design, one (1) distinct new and different thing that sets her apart from (and potentially at odds with) her younger self, and I’d probably be happy. I don’t like what they did with her hair either. It sucks. Should’ve gone with the gorgeous inverted pretzel style.
Anyway I want to be given a reason to care about and be invested in older Pearl, an older Pearl trait that I can love older Pearl for...
- ship(s): Trupearl can be cute, but I don’t think about shipping much at all seeing as I vastly prefer her younger self, haha.
- BROTP(s): General “Pearl getting along with the gang” type dynamics haha.
- NOTP(s): Well, I do not like any implication that she has a crush on Marlon or vice versa. I really don’t like that.
- Game/case where I like them more: I’m not sure ahah. Good thing I’m trying to work through the games in Chinese on youtube so maybe I can brush up on my AA knowledge a bit.
- Random headcanon: Ok made this one up just now: When she’s slightly older she adopts the term “Narumayo” for her shipping of Phoenix and Maya. At least, the Japanese version of her where the characters have their Japanese names... lol. I guess her English-speaking self tried but failed to come up with a good name as the counterpart headcanon. Mayanix?
Actually, I guess another headcanon would be her being a hardcore shipper for any media she’s invested in. She moves away from shipping real people and onto characters, channelling all that energy elsewhere.
Or honestly, she could stick with real people and either become an Ace Matchmaker or overall consistently terrible matchmaker. Either’s good. If you combine the two, she could try to matchmake what seems to be an absolutely horrendous pair/combination of people, only for it to actually work.
- Unpopular opinion: Well, I think I already got quite opinionated above, and nothing really comes to mind to reply to this with. I might have been too harsh on older Pearl, but everything I wrote is what I genuinely felt and the impression that I was left with. That impression may be false, I’m not sure, but yeah.

Operation: Boardwalk
Pairing: Narumayo
Characters: Phoenix, Maya, Trucy, Pearl
Word count: 2850
Summary: It had been seven years since Phoenix had last seen Maya. After being disappointed that Maya didn’t come with Pearl for a weeklong visit, Pearl and Trucy concoct a perfect plan to reunite the two one more time before Maya left to complete her training.
Authors note: I had fun writing this, and it was thanks to @ganonlady for helping to think something up in the AJ-era that involved a more sweet Hobo rather than a thirsty ass one. So thanks buddy ^_^
“I just got the text; she’ll be here soon.”
“Does that mean we’ll be able to initiate Operation: Boardwalk?”
“Yes it does~!”
“Perfect! I’ll get the supplies ready! Operation: Boardwalk is officially ago~”
Summer in Los Angeles was always debatable as to whether or not it was fun to be there during the season. While there was fun seasonal attractions to check out, it was also miserably hot outside. Phoenix could attest to this as even he was forced to take off his sweater when the heat became too much; and he usually NEVER took off his sweater!
One week, Pearl came down from Kurain Village to spend time with Phoenix and Trucy. Phoenix was disappointed that Maya hadn’t come with her, but after she explained that Maya was getting ready to do the final portions of her training in another country, he understood why she couldn’t join them. After making sure that the young girl was settled down, he allowed the two to run off into Trucy’s room to play (and for Trucy to put on a magic show) while he plopped down onto the couch to watch TV. Besides texting Apollo to approve of a small vacation so he could hang out with his best friend, Phoenix really didn’t do anything besides drink grape juice and continue to watch TV. He almost seemed grumpier than usual, which was odd since he usually never got grumpy.
Meanwhile in Trucy’s room, after a small magic show, Trucy and Pearl immediately got to work to set up the perfect surprise for Phoenix. Sitting inside a blanket fort they had made, they took out a journal labeled “Operation: PM-4” and began to write ideas inside it. First they wrote plans they would think about executing in the future, then decided to write down ideas for a plan they could execute within a few days. They talked and wrote and made sure to hide the journal under a pillow when Phoenix poked his head into the fort to check on them. When they finished writing out their plans, they looked it over twice to make sure everything looked perfect. Afterwards Pearl got out her phone and began to text someone, asking if they’d be willing to come to when they could so they could help with the plan. Almost immediately, Pearls friend replied back saying that they would help, but it’d have to be in a couple of days. Pearl didn’t mind, though, since she and Trucy expected that. Ecstatic that they were gonna get help for this ‘present’ of theirs, the girls nodded at each other and began to giggle.
“And now we play the waiting game.” Trucy hummed.
“I’m so excited! I hope time passes by quickly!” Pearl said while bouncing in excitement.
Despite what Pearl hoped for, time actually seemed like it was passing by agonizingly slow. They spent the rest of the day catching up with each other and binge watched the Steel Samurai since they really had nothing else to do. The next day they got Phoenix to take them to the mall so they could walk around and do a little bit of shopping then later on went out to eat dinner. However, when they got home, they found that there was still a lot of time left in the day, so they decided to return to the fort and daydream possible futures for Phoenix and Maya.
Something Trucy recalled while daydreaming was that when they went into a fashion store (because Pearl wanted to try on clothes), the magician glanced over at Phoenix to see what he was doing and saw that he was looking at the jewelry; rings, more specifically. Thinking this was a possible omen for the future, she told Pearl and they quickly started making theories about why he was looking at rings. While they got close with some theories, the truth was that he was looking that the rings because they were a reminder about how he had yet to admit his feelings for Maya and that he believes that it might be too late to say to her how much he loved her and thus too late to even ask for her hand in marriage.
Around noon of the next day, while Pearl was in the kitchen getting a snack, she got a text that caused her to grin and rush back into Trucy’s room.
“I just got the text; she’ll be here soon.”
“Does that mean we’ll be able to initiate Operation: Boardwalk?”
“Yes it does~!”
“Perfect! I’ll get the supplies ready! Operation: Boardwalk is officially ago~”
Getting cameras and putting them in a beach bag along with small buckets, shovels and towels so nothing looks suspicious, they both approached a bored Phoenix laying on the couch with their hands clapped together and puppy eyes at the ready. He didn’t even have to look at them for more than a second to know that they wanted something.
“...Okay, girls, what is it this time? Wanna go to the candy store or something?” He asked.
“A-Actually…” Pearl began, “We were wondering if you could take us to the beach today.”
“The beach?” He questioned, “What makes you guys wanna go to the beach all of a sudden?”
“Well, it’s because it’s been hot lately and because the last time Pearly went to the beach was almost a decade ago! We really should go!”
Phoenix looked at the two of them before closing his eyes to think. It was gonna be packed and the walk there would be eternal. Yet they looked like they really wanted to go to the beach…
Sighing, he sat up and opened his eyes. “Alright, we’ll go to the beach. Get your stuff together; I’ll call an Uber when you’re ready.”
“Yaaaaaay! Thank you~” Trucy and Pearl cheered in unison, running off to get their bag along with a chair and umbrella.
When they came back with the beach equipment, Phoenix couldn’t help but chuckle. He didn’t say anything, but he couldn’t help but wonder if they were expecting him to say yes to the trip.
“You girls ready?”
“Yes!”
“Alright, I’ll call an Uber. I’d rather pay for a drive there than walking.” He said, almost mumbling that last part to himself.
After he called for a ride, they waited outside to be picked up. A couple of minutes passed before their driver came and they loaded the gear into the trunk. While Phoenix and the driver engaged in small talk, Pearl and Trucy were communicating via gestures to each other that would have confused anyone who saw them.
When they finally arrived at the beach, Phoenix paid the driver then carried the equipment out to look for a spot. Much to their surprise, it wasn’t as packed as they thought it’d be. Assuming that other people didn’t come for the thought that the beach would be packed, the disbarred attorney shrugged and considered this lucky. The girls, of course, eagerly agreed as they lead him to a spot that was close to the shoreline, but far enough away from the seaweed.
While Pearl set up the towels, Phoenix put up the umbrella and Trucy set up the chair, Pearl felt a vibrate come from her phone as she had gotten another text. She glanced at it and once again smiled, putting her phone in the bag so nothing happens to it and getting the shovels and buckets out to go play in the sand near the water. Trucy saw the grin that tugged at Pearls lips, and knew what it meant without even having to ask.
While the girls went to play in the sand near the water, Phoenix plopped down on the chair and adjusted the umbrella so it’d shield most of him from the sun. It was nice seeing the two enjoy themselves, but it only made him miss Maya more. The childish woman probably would have dragged him so he could play too, and he would have complied with only little resistance, but she wasn’t here so he didn’t. If anything the only reason he was there was to supervise them and make sure they were safe. That’s what he thought anyway before he pulled his beanie to cover his eyes.
He was going to take a nap, but the sudden thoughts of her, of Maya, started to endlessly play through his mind and prevented him from sleeping. Grumbling, he stood up from the chair and pushed his beanie back to its original position. He began to walk over to the girls and found that they had built a small sandcastle. How long was he trying to sleep? A few minutes, apparently. When they noticed him walking over, they stared at him until he stopped.
“Hey, I’m gonna go for a walk, okay? I... got some things on my mind right now that I need to think about. I’ll be back in a few minutes.” He told the two.
“Okay, Daddy! Have a nice walk!”
“Be safe too, Mr. Nick! Don’t kick shells up that could hurt your feet!”
“I’ll try not to.” He chuckled, putting his hands in his pockets and beginning to walk off, following the shoreline.
When he was a good distance away, an old friend popped out from the parking lot and began to follow the disbarred attorney, almost as if she expected him to go for a walk and was waiting for a perfect opportunity to pop out. When the girls noticed this, they immediately grabbed their buckets and shovels and bolted to their spot to put them away and to get out the cameras. This was the reason they brought them, after all; to capture his reaction to his surprise.
While she followed close behind, yet far and quietly enough so he wouldn’t hear her, she didn’t do anything besides walk due to wanting to see how long she could keep this up. The girls, on the other hand, had to follow from a big distance because they couldn’t contain their giggling. It got to the point where they had to cover their mouths because it sounded like they were going to give everything away.
As Phoenix walked, blind and deaf to anything going on behind him, the memories of her continued to play through his head: When she was around and the adventures they had together, her amazing personality, her kind and playful nature, her beautiful eyes, those legs; he just missed everything about her. Next thing he knew it he was thinking about questions related to how she was doing now. How was she? Is she okay? Has she changed at all? Or the biggest question of them all: Did she share the same feelings with him? That one he tried to shake off as it was practically impossible at this point that she would like anyone like him, but everything else stuck in his mind.
Sighing, he looked out to the ocean, dreading the day she leaves him to go even farther than before. Sure he understood the reason why she had to do it, but he wished that he could go with her. Then again, with his future plans, that would be impossible to do. It was like he could never win anymore. Stopping in his tracks, he closed his eyes and tilted his head to the sky, taking in the ocean breeze, the sound of the waves, and… the sound of giggling? Confused, he opened his eyes and looked behind him, causing the woman behind him to side-step to stay out of his view and so he could only see the young girls following behind him with cameras.
“Eh? Trucy? Pearl? What are you do-” Before he could finish his sentence, he suddenly felt someone tackle him and scream into his ear.
“HIYA NICK! IT’S SOOOOOOOO GOOD TO SEE YOU AGAIN~!”
Almost collapsing from a mini heart attack he just suffered, he turned his head so he could come face to face with the one and only Maya Fey. He honestly wondered if this was a dream, but after having a few years taken off from his life from that sudden scare, he knew it wasn’t. Maya let go of him after a moment and he immediately turned around and tightly wrapped his arms around her, giving her the tightest hug he could muster.
“Maya! It’s so good to see you again! I just wish you didn’t give me a heart attack!” He smiled, half-joking as he swore that his heart was still beating a million miles per hour.
“Hehehe, I couldn’t help it!” She sweetly smiled, hugging Phoenix just as tight as he was hugging her.
Trucy and Pearl, meanwhile, were squealing as they recorded the whole reunion, and Pearl even collapsed from happiness. Trucy would have done the same, but she was doing her best to not miss anything and to record everything.
Letting go of each other, Maya and Phoenix looked over at them and laughed. Of course they would be acting like that over the reunion; how else would they? The pair walked over to the younger ones, helped Pearl back up, then held their hands as the walked back to their small beach set up.
While walking, Maya was filling Phoenix in on everything that had happened to her over the years; how her training was going, what’s gonna happen in the final part of her training, things going on in Kurain Village, and a bunch of other stuff that happened to be on her mind. Phoenix stared Maya the entire time, nodding and responding when he thought necessary. He missed this; he missed Maya going on and on about whatever she wanted to tell him, he missed walking with her, he missed her presence entirely. At least he was able to see her again on this day. Meanwhile, Pearl and Trucy winked and nodded at each other, almost telepathically saying ‘job well done’. After all, if it wasn’t for them, then Phoenix and Maya wouldn’t have seen each other for about two more years.
Getting back to their spot, in which Phoenix was surprised that nothing was missing, they decided to spend the rest of the day playing in the sand and water until the sun went down. Afterwards they got an Uber to go back to his apartment, mainly to drop off the beach stuff, then all went out to dinner. It was expensive, but he took them to a steakhouse for dinner. It was mainly for Maya’s sake, since he knew that she most likely hasn’t eaten it all this time and would continue to not really eat it until her training was done, but it was also his form of thanks to the girls for reuniting them, as he deduced from the cameras that they were behind their reunion.
Next thing they knew it the day was over and it was time for Maya to leave, especially since she wasn’t supposed to be in the city in the first place. When they got back to the apartment, he instructed Trucy to lock the door because he was going to walk Maya to the train station. She nodded and walked inside the apartment with Pearl following behind, then Phoenix and Maya walked off to the train station. They continued to catch up, though Phoenix continued to do most of the listening rather than the talking, and eventually reached the train station. It hurt him to have to say goodbye so soon after just seeing her again, but he knew that she had to do what she had to do. He stayed with her until the train came, then watched as she boarded and turned around to face him.
“Well, this is it, Nick. Time to say goodbye again.” She sighed, a sad smile tugging at her lips.
“Yeah, unfortunately… Good luck out there, Maya.” He replied, trying to hide the growing sadness inside him.
“Thanks, Nick. Good luck to you too. I hope you get your badge back soon.”
“If things go according to plan, then I should get it pretty soon. Don’t worry about me.”
Maya couldn’t help but roll her eyes. Don’t worry about him; that just caused her to worry about him even more. Well, she could only pray that things would end in his favor.
“...Oh, and Nick! Before I go, I gotta tell you something…”
“Hm? And what’s that?”
“Well… it’s that I-” Maya was cut off as the train doors closed and the train itself began to move, making it so he wouldn’t hear what she said.
Staring at the train, he waved in case Maya was looking at him, but couldn’t help but wonder what it was that she wanted to say. Oh well, she could always when they meet again in the future. Turning around, he began to walk back home. This was probably one of the greatest days in his life since getting disbarred. Getting him to reunite with Maya before she left to finish her training… what else do those girls have planned?
