GOD chapter 59 was SO GOOD n i have a lot to say so sending an ask instead of leaving it on the post.
i /love/ when you make things hyper detailed, because your shading techniques are so much fun to sit n stare at and soak in for a while. that being said, the coloring of the wine spilling is what does it for me this time. it still would have been really cool in bw, but not as cool as seeing all the shades of red over the dark blue bg. you did the glass really well too!! I don't think there's a noticeable difference between the wine color inside and outside the glass which is fine bc it's clear, so it RLY makes me appreciate the lighting you have around the glass rim to show the edge in contrast. that tiny little detail makes the image for me. stellar work. i love it
also i do wanna throw in appreciation for the handwritten serif. super well done at first glance it did look like you'd jus typed it out. idk what texture you have on the brush you use for words but it's rly nice to look at up close.
i think the color kinda tipped me off but i waffled bc i couldn't remember if either of his parents spoke in serif font and was a bit daunted to dig thru 50+ chapters to confirm who it was if it didn't turn out to be them. i'm glad i looked at your tags tho haha saved me the trouble. what a way to end the act too!! i read this one on my phone and was scrolling thru the images at full size and after four or so i kept expecting it to cut off. it was a very pleasant surprise to have it keep going, worth the wait to have a longer chapter :)
maybe it jus wasn't meant to be a la sabo getting the letter from sally. it might have to be stelly after all tho there are things that come before then. what a bad time to have one or both of his parents speak to him for the first time that night. oof can't wait for the next act lets goooo

I dont know if you can see the difference between this and my usual handwriting, but itā€™s supposed to look taller. Higher up. Neater. Cleaner. (Still my handwriting though so like so actually neat or clean, but you know like,,, in comparison to the norm.)
His dad only talks in one scene, and his mother has never said anything yet, so i dont blame you if you couldnt find it. In my. Large repertoire of chapters ive accumulated.
I definitely felt the same about the pages when drawing them. But probably the opposite feeling lol. Mine was more like ā€œugh i forgot theres so many. How many more of these do I have to get through??? How did i do this the first act ending with 11 pages???ā€

finished season 10 it was good. it works as a 4 ep movie but 8-9 were back to back bangers so it falls a liiiiitle flat. a little.
onto my detailed feelings abt it
first of all congrats jaya on the engagement that subplot was ADORABLE. jay asking kai to practice the engagement is vry cute cuz it shows also that kai is EXTREMELY supportive of this relationship now whereas a long long time ago he. was not. jay is officially a wifeguy congrats. love that he asked her during the fuckin climax cuz he was afraid to die and never ask her. whatā€™s better than battlefield proposals. props to nya for just casually accepting anyway and not sniping at him for the proper time n place. jaya have rights sometimes. the relationship is p much always at its best when itā€™s not the main focus and just exists in the bg to be cute.
next up cole he can never catch a fucking break can he. love that everyone was down to assume heā€™s fucking DEAD and actually grieving him until kaiā€™s like ā€œyeah heā€™ll come backā€ and then he does. cole could come back for the unbelievable fucking reason of ā€œremember in episode 1 of the season when he left the car stuck in trafficā€ i wanted to scream once i realized that. THE TRAFFIC JAM WAS PLOT RELEVANT? IN THIS WAY?? goddamn. also the very very very casual implication cole may or may not be part oni cuz he DID manage to make it through the dark cloud even if he had difficulties cuz remember lloyd also had trouble at first. this will never be addressed ever i feel that in my bones and its just gonna sit there in my mind and thatā€™s the funniest shit ever. we aint talking abt this.
i was a bit more meh on this season than 8 n 9 but it did have its moments and one of my favs was nya beating herself up over getting cole killed (cept not really) and kai going to comfort her. heā€™s bad at words but heā€™s trying. consistency in that nya tends to hone in on her own mistakes esp here compounded with grief but nicely resolved when she gets to keep the scythe of quakes for a bit and is the one to hand it back to cole.
in my paragraph outline because i have to organize by thoughts by now this just say ā€œgarmadon.ā€ because. oh boy where do i begin. a LOT of garmadon moments in the front half of this season feel like s1/2 rehash cuz ā€œoh noesss we have to cooperate with garmadon and heā€™s evil!ā€ i do admit that this season adds back some of his charm from those first two season but then again s1/2 just did it better yeah? thereā€™s the new aspect of him still trying to understand love and friendship when he canā€™t really feel it anymore which is pretty interesting. itā€™s a big difference to the early garmadon where his love was the main conflict to his obligatory evil nature.
tbh i feel this version of garmadon worked better in conjunction with harumi since sheā€™s the lloyd foil and its much harder for him to carry scenes without her. also at the end he just walks out which is fun. ā€œyeah iā€™m secretly conflicted but outwardly iā€™m 100% cold heartless evil. anyway BYE.ā€
i could say more abt him here but i wont k thanks
the finale for this season is REALLY well set up see coleā€™s car. but ALSO the tornado of creation as the final solution is set up well cuz in the beginning thereā€™s EXTRA focus put on its mural and its importance to the history of the ninja. this way, it doesnā€™t feel like a deus ex machina ya.
the oni are like. schrƶdingerā€™s build up to me. cuz in the prev 2 seasons theyā€™re talked abt as the Big Bad Destroyers Of Darkness but then again them being Gone is like The season 9 plot twist. this ofc opens the question of ā€œwell where the fuck are they thenā€ with season 10 going ā€œtheyā€™re here now :)ā€ which sounds like a fine setup if that didnt leave ā€œwell where were those fuckers BETWEEN then and nowā€ a big glaring question mark. omega is also just whatever as a villain. flat as cardboard heā€™s just here to be an obstacle and a mild contrast for garmadon. who cares abt him he fulfills his purpose well enough.
next up. the golden weapons theyā€™re back i like them. remember in the s8 write up when i complained abt weapon changes. yeah :) iā€™m happy now.
kai being the one to make them works cuz it shows his character development a bit since him being a shit blacksmith mainly boiled down to his impatience which HAS mellowed out. comparitevely. heā€™s still a hothead. kinda wack that he hasnā€™t actually done any smithing for like 5 yrs or however long but now he can make all the fancy golden patterns. the season couldā€™ve brought in his parents to help which couldā€™ve been symbolic but those guys have been Gone since s7 so nah. it WORKS again it works and i get not wanting to change the designs since its been long enough to sell them in toy sets again.
anyway yeah this season works as the overglorified movie that it is and the shortness shows in the narrative depth like itā€™s coherent and well put together but iā€™m not that impressed. does not make it bad tho again it works

yeah for real when youā€™ve got a Scene in your head that would make more sense as a comic, you do get the whole advantages of using that format....like the dialogue of course & being able to show the changes between one panel & another to show movement & actions & things & time passage in general. and getting creative w panels is another tool you have to affect pacing and even tone, & unlike stuff like tv/movies, you get to change the shape & size of panels, which is useful imo for not only mood/pacing but also u can zoom in on exactly what u want viewers to look at. like having a lil panel just of some Detail like a hand or piece of paper or whatever. comix can jump around different shots without adding tension the way it might w film...idk i personally find it pretty fun to work with & it comes somewhat naturally to me to picture something as a comic in my head, though iā€™ll picture things like A Film just as much lol umm anyways yeah i think its great just to mess around w ideas in comic format & it can be rly good for making a scene with feeling, even in a short one... and i like to show emotion in movement and expressions and all, so that works out. like you can show a bunch of different facial expressions & show the slight changes & all....& show how ppl react to someone else in the space & move around each other.....its neat b/c imo emoting is generally a lot more in the subtleties of things. like you could show someoneā€™s feelings exclusively through direct shots of their face but, realistically, ppls feelings are in things beyond their expression at any one point in timeļæ½ļæ½ļæ½its like, if the expression is subdued or exaggerated vs the essential content of the expression alone, their posture and how they move, what they look at, what they say, subtle shifts in their face or body as they react to something newā€”all these little sorts of behaviors ykno? not to downplay facial expression coz thats p much always key, and like i said its my fave...but when it comes to trying to portray stuff w emotional impact, i like to think of a lot of other details that imo can lend a lot of visual and emotional information alike....plus just the more stuff youā€™re drawing the more youā€™re giving a scene to work with... bgs and everything can set the mood & also just give context to a scene & even iā€™m getting better about like, making even simple bgs sometimes. anyways not like im an expert in anything at all related to anything but i have been Drawing W Feelings In Mind for a while i guess lol and yeah about characters who are usually carrying some form of tension (symbolic like displayed persona vs their actual internal, &/or more actually feeling tense like irritable and all lol) still having tension be relatable even when theyā€™re happier or more relaxed, & thinking about that in a drawingā€”for me anyways i just think of that as part of trying to show their personality in every drawing. like i was saying w the example of when i nobly set out to give ppl another pic of kip fucking, even if heā€™s totally chill w the situation, itā€™s relevant to me when drawing it to think of the fact that heā€™s usually Not getting to be chill with Any situation, and have that affect how i portray the state of finally getting to purely enjoy himself in a major way. like i suppose thinking abt this just now, i always make a point of drawing him actually physically tensed in at least some small way, i think as part of imagining how the like usual constant presence of internal conflict plays into the reaction to its absence. like how itā€™s not an on/off switch where a person who has to live w that all the time has some version of themself that gets to Be Normal and suddenly not have to think abt how that feels. like even tho heā€™s presumably getting a break & a good distraction from that stuff, i think of how he wouldnā€™t suddenly have a new set of behaviors to access & isnt like, suddenly a completely different person, & how there could actually be a pressure in enjoying urself b/c of the knowledge of just how special that is & how much u should savor the moment. like, even in relief thereā€™s a tension. sidenote especially if you think you might not get such a great experience againā€”feeling fantastic can have a painful edge in that case & can even be really heartbreaking if you donā€™t know when youā€™ll next get to feel that way again. anyways Back To Fucking lol like i said i think in that relief iā€™m drawing in a little bit of desperation in the knowledge that his moments of relief from feeling all hyperaware and self conscious and conflicted and what have you etc are rare, that i show by giving him a little edge of intensity in some way or another. me drawing kip as sexually desperate lmao owned... but truly thatā€™s just a little piece of always trying to show a chars personality no matter the emotion or action or situation or whatever!! like back in the day i said something about how two people will show the same emotion differently in their facial expressions even if most ppl have the same ā€œbasic formatā€ to it...the difference in how ppl emote & react to things shows their personality (so does other stuff obv but relevant to emotion specifically...) & so say if i draw the same expression for one character as i did another at one point, it would have a different meaning for each of them in the context of their differences in personality...one personā€™s smile has a different meaning from another person smiling the same way, and all. obv thats most relevant in characters who r dramatically contrasted in their outward behavior. like i talk about all this like its a science or i plot a whole chart before ever making a drawing but mostly i come up w some image or scene in my head that seems good to me & then sometimes barely even plan how to put it down. or other times i do think abt it a lot, but even then iā€™ll usually do last minute tweaks. itā€™s really mostly instinct imo, i donā€™t know if itā€™s true that iā€™m a bit overly tuned in to other ppls emotions & good at reading even really subtle shifts, that might be part of it, but even if it wasnt true, emotions are usually a p instinctive thing. but ppl can communicate the same feeling in totally different ways, including ways that ARENā€™T instinctive to you, so imo its also good to like, also treat it like something to consciously think about. and like also just yeah in media you already like that already seems emotionally impactful, its cool to pay attention to that & keep it in mind & try to imitate & stuff. and like i said about it not being a science, i talk abt putting emotion & a characters personality into everything, but its not like i think of anything i do as being overly complex & i expect anyone to look at any random drawing of mine & be able to fully reverse-engineer a characters entire personality from one pic lmao....i donā€™t pretend anything i make is some work of genius that contains Everything. but it at least contains something. & maybe if u had a few pix to compare, it wouldnt be hard to deduce personality from it. like, even when someoneā€™s acting different from their usual personality, itā€™s still the same person, & how they usually are changes how their behavior reads. like for lars to be relaxed and casual around other ppl suggests a higher level of comfort & trust than average, specifically because of the fact that u know his usual behavior is to be more stressed & in one way or another defensive around others. also i like to try to draw personality in e v e r y t h i n g b/c all of this is propaganda of ā€œmy fave & if you donā€™t like it get outā€ lol......like each pic is its own lil love letter what with how if i didnt have a certain level of fondness for a character, then i couldnt be effed to draw them in the first place. so i want to be like, look at the way this character is, which is why i love & cherish them.....and like you said, with a basic ability to draw a recognizable form & an interest in making fanart with that ability, youā€™ve got everything you need to make the content you wish somebody else had already made for you to look at. and with choosing a lot of suffering characters to be fond of you have plenty of motivation to want to draw them having a nice time. or at least feel loved and appreciated or something. all that stuff hmm i canā€™t remember if i had anything else i meant to get at but yeah lol....Feelings
