I have finished the playthrough and I have . . . thoughts
Watching a playthrough of dead plate and I'm at the dinner party part AND I think it'd be really funny if the attendees to the dinner party assumed rody was vincent's boyfriend and that's why he was helping out
#random thoughts#dead plate#okay so first: love the concepts introduced#love the characterization of vincent and rody#love the little hints of culinary shit thrown in to show the creators did research#LOVE how each ending is represented with food#ESPECIALLY how the ending where vincent dies is represented with a lemon cake#okay so#i really don't like the gameplay#it's a bit too pixel perfect#i feel like this diner dash style of gameplay is more suited to a point and click rather than an rpg#i got physically stuck a few times while trying to play it and gave up (which is why i watched a playthrough)#also i don't like how you can only clean tables from one side of the table#i don't like how manon is included in the game especially at the end of ending 3#she's a bit too therapy speak and is mostly there as a source of angst for rody#like she literally did nothing wrong at any point during the game. she's a paragon for rody to try and 'better himself' for (from his pov)#her dialogue at the end of ending 3 felt like the creator telling the audience 'hey rody isn't as good as he thinks he is'#which i feel like was accomplished and didn't require manon's whole 'you're destroying yourself for me' speech#vincent's motive was . . . weird#okay first of all. don't like how his primary motive seems to be 'i want to taste again after losing my sense of taste'#i feel like it could've been stronger if he just didn't like eating overall rather than being incapable of tasting#like have him view eating as a chore#also i don't really get his motive behind killing and eating (?) rody's girlfriend#and also feeding her to rody#like yeah i get it the homoerotic nature of cannibalism whatever but like WHY her#because it SEEMS like the goal could have been 'im obsessed with rody so im gonna kill his ex girlfriend and feed her to him'#in like a sick way of fulfilling rody's earlier mention of 'what's the point of all this money without a wife and kids to provide for'#like 'i will feed him his ex girlfriend to provide for him he is my wife now'#which like. go off that fucks#but also it doesn't really seem to be the genuine motive??? idk that last few minutes of dialogue between vince and rody was MUDDY

One of my favorite Vincent Characterization Things is that, despite… how he is, generally speaking, he 100% unblinkingly believes in the power of love. Like, he treats the idea of love being able to restore his taste as, like, a totally plausible and normal thing that could absolutely happen.
It’s really funny, but it’s even funnier to expand upon further. Like, do you think he thought the power of true love’s kiss could bring Rody back from the dead.
