Appraising the Façade

I've seen some people say some character art downgraded from 1 to 2 and while i agree about some poses not being as dynamic and some of the art being unfinished (early access tho) and the colors not being as dope, and some of the gods feel different

but i wanna specifically ramble about Artemis best gurl for a bit

this is my girlie in Hades 1

I've been thinking about the differences from 1 to 2, and I think in here, she's presenting herself as the Goddess of Hunting.

she looks a bit menacing, she looks sharp, she looks like she just got here, the angle she's looking at you it's not very direct it's like she's measuring you from head-to-toe kinda way, she also has that greenish light which feels kinda like an aura. she's down to business!

and when we look at her in Hades 2

She looks confident still, and you can see her weapons just as clearly, but her pose, and her smile? she's like, laid back, she's not quite posing to create an impression, she doesn't have that greenish aura, she's there in the flesh, she's not really presenting as a goddess in particular... she looks more welcoming, a bit softer looking... she looks like she's just stopped for a chat, while in 1 it's like she's in the middle of something

and when you stop to think about it? she is. she is just chatting with her friend. Melinoe is her friend, she called her Sister.

We're much more closer to her as Melinoe than we were as Zagreus. bc while she does become friends with him in H1, she's more of a long distance friend. we were building our bond with her in H1.

But here? in H2? she's known Mel for years... she kept it a secret from other gods... she's got those accessories thingies with the 4 colors. not only are we close friends we even got a friend bracelet thing going on with her!! Melinoe is a precious friend to her from what i've seen so far.

Why would she pose and be a bit distant with her friend? we know Artemis is a bit closed off from people, she prefers being in the woods with the animals than other gods i recall her saying that to Zag, but Mel? Mel is a dear friend, she sounds much more casual from the get go with her than with Zag because we have a strong bond with her already

In Hades 1 we just got to know her, so she's more closed off, she is more business like, she is distant, she is The Goddess of Hunting

In Hades 2 she is our friend 💖

I was tired of not drawing my magic school kids, so here they are, memified.

HC - PARENTHOOD. (tw for mention of abuse & attempted murder).

from an early age, there was little interest in being a parent. growing up in an emotionally unstable environment & the abuse they suffered is in part the reasoning; why bring a child into the world, only to harm? but also, the confusion around their sexuality, the pressure of, 'one day you will be married & have a family' was ... terrifying. marriage sounded lovely in theory, to their naive mind ... to stay with the love of your life for all eternity.

but ... what was love? oh, they would ask the priest, but would receive little more than a light hearted chuckle & a 'it's a feeling in the heart, you'll feel it some day.' others would say, 'one day, you'll meet a beautiful lady who will melt your heart.'

& donatella was beautiful. she made their lonely heart beat as if they were running a marathon, & smile with happiness that they'd made a friend. she was kind too, & shared their love of the natural world ... well, not of bugs (but that's okay, she still enjoyed being with them).

it all happened rather quickly, a 'heat of the moment' some would say (this isn't a post about their relationship, however. that'll be for another day).

fifteen years later, when diavolo discovered the mistake they had made all those years ago ... there was nothing but fear, & anger, & a terrible storm of memories that had them suffering for days. eventually, the dread subsided, if only a little ... only one thought remaining; this child must die. diavolo feared trish tremendously, what her very existence meant; she was a link to the past they've been running from for over a decade & the memories of the night of her conception. but also, the knowledge she possessed, little pieces heard from her mother growing up regarding her unknown father ... it could very well drag into the light the illusive boss of passione (& it did). in diavolo's mind, it was the only logical answer. there'd be no joy in taking the life of a child, only ... peace.

so now diavolo has been dragged into the light & no longer rules passione ... but there is still great fear, & hatred of trish's existence. unable to even look her in the eye for days. it is made no less difficult when others of the system become aware; doppio is in denial, & solido ... he seems the only one wishing to open up to her.

as time progress & they accept their need for therapy, their feelings regarding trish change, becoming one of acceptance. eventually, they wish to get to know her. this is, of course, if she even wishes the parent who once attempted to murder her in her life. if not, they understand ... though solido is hurt the most by this. diavolo does not expect to be forgiven for their actions, simply only wishing to be given a chance to change ... & they do change, for the better.

if they are given the chance to be a part of her life ... oh, they become quite the parental figure! though there'd be many hurdles early on, of course (family therapy a good start). diavolo becomes quite protective of her & has to be reminded not to be too overbearing. doppio enjoys making her jewellery & the odd clothing pieces. solido loves to cook & bake things (one day, she'll receive a big pink cake that says 'sorry i tried to kill you' written in icing .... solido made the cake, but diavolo slipped in there to do the icing - much to solido's dislike!)

in the end, the pinks try & be a good parent to her. making up for lost time & trying their best to soothe over a great amount of hurt. things may never be perfect, but that's okay, life never is.

adding onto this: should they enter a relationship with another, they (although, specifically diavolo, & doppio to a lesser extent) would mention they do not want children. by this point in their life however (re: going thru therapy & beginning to heal), this is mainly a personal preference & has little to do with them being a flavour of asexual (asexual ppl can still have sex & want children...not that the pinks care much for that either, at least in the traditional sense) nor due to their early abuse. if their partner already has a child, then there would be ... some hesitation, at least initially. but they would come to love that child as they eventually do with trish.

Late night thoughts before bed but Myrrh (Arknights) has really grown on me as a character. Originally it was "she's pretty neat, and a good friend (hi fox, if you're reading this) really likes her so I might as well level her up" to "this character is more relatable than I thought, I need to see someone hug her and tell her it's going to be okay." She's also become a main stay medic of mine, next to Sussurro and Perfumer. (Yeah I have "better" medics like Shining and Silence but I like my 4 star medics!)

I know both me and fox interpret Myrrh as autistic and I know I already have so many WIPs but I just have this desire to write a sort of introspective into her and her autism/anxiety combo. Admittedly I still need to read her op rec but I'll probably end up doing that when I wake up.

Too much, if ever I have free time I’m listening to music. Today I was listening to the garages, and they have a billion albums that can have different genres so specifically the Lo-Fi ones. And also the radio cause I love listening to university public radios, they always have wacky indie stuff. {and also they have these little fact asides that I love like today I learned that aboriginal Australians “Highway” systems reflect star charts}

Another favorite The Dear Hunter, I went to one of their concerts before and I loved it so much, it also introduced me to the opener “the world is a beautiful place and I am no longer afraid to die”

the implication in Legacy that anders and hawke, even when you're romancing him, have never. never! sat down and had a little talk about warden stuff, including that fun little detail that anders is seriously living on borrowed time and what the fuck that's going to have to look like when he eventually has to go on his Calling outside of the structure of the wardens (would hawke like. accompany him down to the deep roads and then have to watch him walk away past a certain point??? would he just take care to die in some sufficiently out of the way place before it took him for good?)............ with no sarcasm at all, I couldn't be happier about this fhsakdfhsakjfhasd in any other case I might be annoyed and call it implausible, but honestly yes this is exactly the level of emotional and communicative dysfunction I expect of the DA2 crew, if anything I would have been astonished and befuddled if they had ever talked about this like sane adults before it became absolutely necessary (because of taint-borne mind control, not because of the inherent 'hey babe you know how I have the vibe of a man who doesn't expect anyone to ever get to see what old age looks like on him... well you see there are several reasons for that let's sit down for this one maybe'-ness of it all)

(also the way the Legacy DLC from Anders' perspective just like... a little Justice on one shoulder and a little Corypheus on the other, each yelling like a black metal concert. this poor man is just a walking playpen for any passing eldritch influence that decides to drop by and lives in a sewer, he needs help I am not qualified to give him I think)
