Hello Lyr!!! (Can I call you that? Is that what people call you? Do you like that??)
I adore your art.
And I love how you kind of take us on your art journey and show us the process sometimes! I’m obsessed with watching speed runs of how artists create their beautiful art! (It’s inspiring and makes me feel like I could actually get there too haha, makes it graspable?)
Anyway, my question to you is, do you have any tips on how to do anatomy? I’m struggling hahah
I watched a few youtube videos but I quickly get overwhelmed, they always expect you to just know so much, y’know? It’s always like “and this is how you draw a leg, and here the calf does this curve in this position and here look I drew it in another position” and I’m just like “but how am I supposed to know! How am I supposed to know that a leg looks that way!!!” (My apologies, this is a mess, my words have failed me today hahah)
And even if you don’t have any concrete advice I’d still be interested in your art journey! How did you learn? :D
HI!
Yes ofc u can call me Lyr, yes people call me that online and yes I do like it, (it's like the celestial version of my real name)
I'm so glad u enjoy it when I share my process... My sketches are very messy and sometimes I'm like... no one it's going to understand this but oh well.. it is what it is....
About your question, yes! I do have a lot of anatomy tips, and like you I saw every video, I did life studies, I drew scultures... I did everything my teachers and all the youtube videos tell u to do... but at first it didn't work, and I get that is frustating.... sometimes I'm also like... wait... how do knees work? And it's normal.. the more common things, the things u see every day are the hardest to draw, cause u can spot that something is off even when u don't know what it is... and that can be very anoying...
I believe I have a long way to go when it comes to drawing, and that is what I like about it, that everything is improvement and there is no finish line, you will only get better and better.
With time I think every artist comes with their own methods of anatomy solving, for me is understanding volume more than shape, cause every body is diferent and if I understand the mass instead of the shape of an arm for example, I can draw every arm, right?
Also I draw in front of a mirror, I have a mirror placed on the wall behind my tablet, so everytime I don't know an expresion or how something looks like, I just pose and I use myself as a reference (I prefer this than going endleslly though pinterest looking for a reference picture) I sometimes also take pictures of myself (this is embarrassing tbh)
I am also a big fan of art books, specially from artist that I like, more than anatomic ones, but I can recomend you "secret charracter drawing" and "point charracter drawing" by Tako. It's great if you are starting and it might help!
I know this migh sound unhelpfull but I learned how to draw... drawing and looking, looking a lot, I love looking at people, their body language, how peoples personalitys or feelings get mirrored on their bodys... (for this I recomend dark sunglasses, don't be creepy and if you stare to hard, don't get caught) FOR ACADEMIC REASONS ONLY!
I usually have on my phone a note pad where I write things that I saw and I would like to use as inspo, or as a reference. I'll never take a pic of somebody in a creepy way, I rather type down what I'am understanding and then try to draw that feeling.
Sorry for the long reply, I love talking about this stuff!
Thank you so much for your ask and for liking my art <3
I understand that tall men are our POV characters, but surely being like a foot taller than everyone around them would have some occasional consequences
okay but like. I just had the weirdest thought about that ‘don’t look I’m naked’ comic. Which is that that’s essentially the same thing Adam and Eve did after they ate the fruit of knowledge of good&evil. So I feel like the theological implications of that could kneecap Gabe if he doesn’t think V1 is a being with free will.
yeah ok. i dunno man. is this anything
((side note. this isn’t necessarily meant to be in-character or story-accurate or take place at any particular point in time, just a way to explore some Thoughts. i was also imagining more that V1’s words aren't actually spoken, more like Gabriel’s more articulate interpretation of whatever garbled mechanical noise V1 is using to communicate. I think an angel could do that.))
Absolutely like….MIND BLOWN getting to do a RANCHER TATTOO?? and @acidistyping traveling SO FAR to me as well for it, I cannot BELIEVE how lucky I am :,,,)) thank u for making my job so COOL
[ID: A black and white, digital Trigun comic of Vash and Wolfwood. In the first panel is a close up of Wolfwood's mouth as he says, "Vash". Accompanying it is a close up shot of Vash's eye, widen and cheeks flushed. Wolfwood presses a knee against the open space between Vash's legs and says, "Tell me everything you want from me." Wolfwood's face is equally as flushed. He continues to say, "I'll give it to you. Everything." As he talks, a wide shot shows the both of them in white space. Vash is sitting, leaning a little back with both hands pressed against the surface he's sitting on. Wolfwood is in his white dress shirt, stripped of the blazer. He's still leaning in with one knee in between Vash's spread legs, his right hand touching Vash's lips and his left hand behind his back.
The shot closes in on Vash's mouth and Wolfwood's hand against it, pressing down on the lower lip as he says, "You have to ask though. Go on." His hand moves down to Vash's chin, gently holding it. With a shy and uncertain expression, Vash hesitantly asks, "Um... K... Kiss... Please?" Wolfwood, without wasting a second, leans in and kisses him and indulges by pressing deeper, eliciting a small noise of surprise from Vash.
Wolfwood moves away from Vash first and with a smile, asks, "What else?" Vash tugs on Wolfwood's left sleeve, wordlessly budging Wolfwood to give him his hand that was still behind his back. In the next panel, Vash utters, "Hold me..?" He's holding Wolfwood's left hand with his own while his right hand is reaching for his waist. Wolfwood complies, moving his left hand to Vash's shoulder and his right hand continues to touch Vash's cheek. Wolfwood asks again, "What else?"
More comfortable now, Vash leans in to kiss Wolfwood. Wolfwood catches him immediately, pressing his thumb against Vash's lips to stop him before demanding, "Hey. Ask." Vash looks back in surprise and Wolfwood meets his eye with a quiet, insistent look. They're quiet for a moment before Vash leans in again and curtly requests, "Kiss. Me." Wolfwood says "Good", smiling as he lifts his hand away, and meets Vash's lips. In the next shot, Wolfwood had adjusted his position, sitting on Vash's thigh. The hand that was once on Vash's cheek has moved its way to Vash's nape, pushing away the collar of his jacket with his pinky. His other hand continues to grip on Vash's shoulder. Still kissing, Wolfwood asks again, "What else?"
In the next shot, Vash is starting to turn, moving Wolfwood with him. Vash asks, "Let me on top of you?" Wolfwood says, "Mhm" before asking again, "What else?" The next panel shows a close look of Vash's face. He's looking down, flushed and shy just as he had been at the beginning, but now, more decisive. Vash asks, "Wolfwood... Let me have you..?" A panel of Wolfwood taking Vash's hand into his, pulling it towards his chest. The next panel shows Wolfwood lying down where Vash had laid him. Vash's hand is on Wolfwood's chest, covering the cross of his rosary while Wolfwood's hand lingers against his, loosely pressing Vash's hand in place. He looks up at Vash with a shy smile of his own, flushed cheeks. He says, "All yours."
A panel shows a close up of Vash's tender gaze before he leans down to be closer to Wolfwood. The final shot is a front view of their positions, Vash's face turned away from the viewer; Vash is leaning over Wolfwood who's lying down with his right leg draped over Vash's legs. Wolfwood's left hand holds onto Vash's left arm. With finality, Vash says, "...Mine." End ID]
[ID: A follow up bonus comic in a looser, sketchier style. They're laying comfortably in bed when Vash asks, "What was that earlier?" referecing to the start of the previous comic. Wolfwood glances away and says, "To get you used to it. Asking. And getting what you ask for. Since you're alwasy hesitant about it." Vash's eyes widen, tight lipped. Wolfwood continues, "Knowing you, it'll be a tough habit to break..." When he says this, Vash can't help but laugh, unable to deny it. Wolfwood slowly brings a hand to Vash's cheek and continues to say, "So I'll keep trying -- whatever ways I can... to get it through your thick skull." Vash takes Wolfwood's hand with his, kissing the the palm gently. Wolfwood's eyes soften and holding onto Vash's cheek, he leans in to try for a kiss. Vash says, "Hey..." before stopping Wolfwood's lips with the back of his hand, a smug look on his face, "Ask." Wolfwood's embarrassed and with little irritation, asks, "Really?" Vash smiles, saying, "You're in need of practice too." They pause for a moment, Wolfwood looking contemplatively, before he's leaning in again, asking, "May I please kiss you?" Vash looks him in the eyes and says, "Yes." The comic ends with a "chu", indicating an off-panel kiss. End ID]
Ok, I recently wrote an essay [here] talking about the definition and duties of civil engineering as well as the ethics because of the brain rot @swordfright gave me with calling Dream Sam’s ultimate engineering project. So, because I actually am a civil engineer I took it upon myself to design the title and summary of quantities sheets just like I do at work for roads but with Dream as the project instead. And in honor of angst day sponsored by @sixteenth-day-event, I figured I’d share it because I feel like it kinda works for the prison of the mind prompt.
“Sam’s “ultimate engineering project” he deemed too damaged like a bumpy road or crumbling building that wasn’t worthy of patching and filling in the cracks or reinforcing, that’s too eroded to be fixed and preserved. So, Sam strived to tear him down to the bedrock so he could remake, remold, and reengineer Dream according to his design for the common safety, public health and well-fair.”
{These are very similar to the actual sheets I make day to day, which I shall not share for the sake of doxing my location, but yea pretty much everything has a significance. Some of it doesn’t necessarily make sense but that was because I was more so taking inventory of what we see in lore (so you know I counted ;) lol)}
could you please tel us about some chairs with names
hi i'm sorry for not seeing this earlier! i mostly use tumblr on mobile and it hides the inbox from me.
so, most chairs have names! usually given to them by their designer or manufacturer, but for much older pieces it could be what they've become known as by historians. here are some of my faves:
the womb chair
of course. the womb chair was designed by eero saarinen and manufactured by knoll (now by design within reach) and it is my very favourite chair in the whole world. incredibly comfortable and certifiably iconic (it was the first molded fiberglass chair), it was called the womb chair after Florence Knoll requested a chair she could "curl up" in. It's been enablng laziness since 1948.
the barcelona chair
here's a name that is directly tied to the chair's origin: the barcelona chair was designed by ludwig mies van der rohe for the king and queen of spain to use within the german pavilion which mies designed for the 1929 World's Fair in Barcelona.
it was a hit, and the rest is history! the barcelona chair has been in almost constant production (also by knoll and then design within reach) ever since.
the sgabello
here's one where the name is a type of chair--the sgabello (this one is half of a pair in the national gallery of art, washington dc collection) was big in renaissance europe. designed to line hallways and be sat in for short periods of time (a comfortable seat this was not), sgabelli were usually constructed of walnut and elaborately carved. any chair of this form would be considered a sgabello--here's an earlier one with very different aesthetics in the collection of the met.
the butaque chair
finally, a chair which combines type and proper noun names. the butaque is a chair which came into use in colonial-era latin america, a hybrid of the spanish x-frame chair and pre-columbian duho. this specific butaque, which has come to be known as a proper-noun Butaque Chair, was designed by Cuban-born Clara Porset, who lived and worked in Mexico from 1935 on. She set out to learn more about the vernacular furniture in her adopted home, and came across the butaque. Her version emphasized ergonomics and local materials--the original (c. 1950) porset butaques are covered in wicker, leather, or locally woven fabrics.
here's the one the moma has, which is covered in wicker.
and here's a photograph of porset's home.
i hope you enjoyed this taste of chairs with names! i encourage you to look up the furniture/decorative objects you love the most--they probably have names, too :)
happy new year Ego!!! Just wanted to let you know that I absolutely adore your twst fanart and the tags are just an absolute pleasure to read! You are my greatest inspiration for my personal twst art and I just wanted to thank you for your wonderful masterpieces <333 if possible, may I ask what are some of your headcanons for the diasomnia family? If not for diasomnia then any other characters are fine as well!
thank you, and happy new year! 💚💜💚 that is amazing to hear; it's always a little bewildering but super flattering that other people like my silly little doodles so much!
I don't think I really have any really solid headcanons and also canon keeps validating me left and right (FLUFFY DOMESTIC DIAFAM IS REAL). mostly just kind of...impressions and general thoughts, if that makes sense! lately though I've been kind of obsessed with thinking about Lilia's hair, and specifically when/why he ended up cutting it. (l-look, we're bouncing around the timeline and I gotta make decisions about these things when I draw, it's relevant) (I mean I would probably be weirdly fixated on this anyway, but.)
I think I've settled on the idea that he kept it long until he went to NRC, partly because 1) I like drawing The Ponytail, and 2) I think he thought of NRC as a chance to reinvent himself a bit! he gets to go and be a wacky carefree teenager for a few years and have fun! (officially he's there to keep an eye on Son #1, but how much trouble could he get into, really.) so he gave himself a Cool Teen Haircut to go with his fresh new Cool Teen Persona!
also maybe he had some reflection on his hair's troubled past with three kids...
...and had to weigh his vanity versus the fact that he was going off to be around hundreds of kids on a daily basis, and. the choice suddenly seemed obvious.
ngl, it's about quality over quantity for me. an npc can have a total of three minutes of screen time, but if they have a cool name, they can live rent free in my head and I'll spend several hours trying to decipher drawable features from a blurry screenshot of pixels
there is a vague hint of a story here, and that's because every time I try to play thi4f, I get incredibly frustrated with how Not Fun the game play is. like, is the story good? well. but it has a PLAGUE. that should've given it instant 'I'll replay this once a year' status in my heart, but the game play sucks so bad that I've never finished it. I can't believe Not Fun gameplay beat out my obsession with narrative plagues.
anyway, the idea is basically if the original era had a game with a plague centric narrative and some other stuff I liked out of thi4f thrown into a narrative blender, with a heavy dash of horror thrown in because some parts of the thief games were scarier to me than entire dedicated horror genre games.
