It almost feels like a movie. 

Yellow light flickering, the fixtures hanging by a thread above my head. Screeches of creatures and maniacal laughter of humans echoing down the empty hallway. I can’t describe how terrible the blend of those sounds are; they loudly bounce off the metal lockers, invisible nails digging into the skin of my throat and dragging slowly. Down and down the scratch goes until it’s at my chest. Then it starts to twist, the impact deeper as it works its way inside. Bypassing my heart, it finds my lungs. Squeezing and tearing them to shreds. 

Head in my hands, my fore and middle finger rub my closed eyes. Tight, rough circles, over and over until there’s more stars than darkness. 

I miss the stars. With all the smog, they’re impossible to see anymore. Are they visible at the farm? Do you get to watch them sparkle every night — the galaxy wrapping safely around you like a blanket, protecting you from the harsh reality of life?

“Hyung?” I hear Felix’s soft voice call for me. When I look up, the stars are gone. The only thing above me is a hardly sturdy metal table. There’s no safety blanket for me. “What should we do?”

When I open my mouth to speak, there’s a blood curdling scream outside the door. A Not, stalking the old science room. Desperate to get inside, to chase what it smells. 

I look in my friend's eyes; how does he still hold so much hope? Witnessing horror after horror, and yet he holds the galaxy within his gaze. I’ve always considered Felix too good for this world, and the destruction of reality proved that. 

That’s why I hated sighing, clenching my teeth to resist tears. “I don’t know.”

He makes a soft sound very similar to an “oh”, looking down at the bat in his hands. It’s bloodied, the wood starting to crack along the sides. “Chan?”

“Yeah, Lix?”

“Are we going to die?”

Throughout the entire journey thus far, never once have I felt upset with you. In fact, I felt at peace knowing you were safe. Waiting to welcome us into your haven, to give us the space you’ve protected for us. I could find comfort in knowing I was coming home to you. 

But as I listened to sharp claws scrape at the metal door, looking at my friend who has never done anything to deserve this horror, I was frustrated. Why? Why didn’t you come with me to pick up Changbin after we got the alert? Why did we decide to go separate ways in this mess?

Why did you leave me? Why did I let you?

Truly, my frustration was with myself. If I had only tried a little harder, maybe we would already be at the farm. Minho’s accident wouldn’t have happened, we wouldn’t be separated in this run down middle school. We could be with you. 

I could be with you. 

Maybe I’m not upset with you. 

Felix is looking at me again, his wide eyes blinking slowly. Waiting for reassurance I cannot give him. 

I’m upset with how much I’ve failed them. 

“I don’t know.”

I’m upset I may never get home to you.

i just wanna say that i really love the 'love letters' series and i think abt her sometimes

two weekends ago, while waiting in line for ateez, i literally went on a 30 minute tangent about love letters and how BAD i miss her. she was pushed to the side because of my job and just overwhelming anxiety.

but i think about her still, too. and i want to give her a chance to be the masterpiece she was destined to be.
