hualian scenes/quotes that Changed me as a person:
the entire campfire conversation in ch 120
“only after having met you did i rediscover that it’s such a simple thing to be happy.”
“forever exists. there’s one person who can truly achieve it. i believe.”
the scene where hua cheng moves to block a breeze automatically without thinking, “as if protecting xie lian was an innate ability”. and xie lian calls his name and he turns and instantly smiles and “xie lian felt, hua cheng probably didn’t notice himself smiling.”
xl in ch 241 saying: "it's been so long since anyone listened to me talk, won't you stay?" vs hc in ch 250 saying: "then tell me again. i want to listen. it will never be enough no matter how much i listen."
"to watch with your own eyes your beloved be trampled and ridiculed, yet unable to do anything. that is the worst suffering in the world."
#ofc there are soo many god tier hualian scenes but these are just the ones that specifically Changed me reshaped my worldview in some way#and left an indelible mark on my psyche#that i still think about even now 2 years later#bc these scenes/quotes... what is love? this is love#anyway what hualian scenes changed yall as a person#mp: tgcf#love is unconditionally loving All of someone it's happiness made simple made easy it's inventing forever it's faith and belief#it's happiness again and instinct#it's wanting to listen to someone talk again and again no matter how many times it will never be enough...#and it's the powerlessness when someone is suffering and you can't do a thing#god they truly make me so insane#hualian#otp: my dream is only you

There is nothing special about Arslan’s beginning - nothing as glamorous or dangerously exciting as the air about him might subtly suggest. One might wonder what secrets hide behind those eyes of his and how they came to be or what story book he’d fallen out of where the authors pen made no distinction between hero and the less saintly. In truth Arslan’s beginning was quite average where there was no discernible distinction between himself or anyone else that’d ever been born before of privilege or mild standing. His parents partnership was more a marriage of convenience rather than a love in all truth as the young politician needed a wife and there Ayse had been. From the moment of his conception however he was meant to be another brick in the wall, to be another proud bearer of the Karahan name and to follow along with his father’s plans for the future. Dream, Mehmet Karahan might as well have said, but only dream the dreams we’ve already dreamed for you. So on a mild day in May, the 25th at 11:45 in the morning to be exactly precise, the little lion came roaring into this world and set upon a path that had already been determined for him. The finest education, the best opportunities were to be had all with the hopes that he too would follow his father’s footsteps into politics. It was his duty or it would be once he was old enough to understand that his life was not his own. For a small while there he was allowed to be a child and to live and breath and dream unencumbered.
After sometime however Ayse became pregnant again while Arslan was an obedient yet imaginative child. Defne and Hatice, the twins, were beautiful even at that age and from the moment the tot saw them he loved them deeply and without question. Perhaps if they hadn’t been born, Arslan would’ve fit perfectly into their father’s grand scheme of things and truth be told they are what made him the man he is today – a good one. He was only five years their senior and while he was restricted to a very regimented lifestyle full of schooling and the best tutors available with not much else allowed those little girls loved him unconditionally. In the middle of the night they’d sneak into his room to cuddle with him, to have him read to them and if they were ever afraid it was he they ran to for protection hiding behind him as if he were a wall to shield them from all the bad things. Arslan too was the one who while his parents would’ve wished he’d done otherwise encouraged the young girls to be independent and think for themselves and dream of lives they thought were worth living. Defne wanted to be like Arslan, strong and protective of those he loved while Hatice fell in love with food and fostered a deep desire to feed the word and bring smiles to their faces. Arslan was more father and mother to his sisters than his own parents were and the twins would forever leave and impression on the young mans heart. Their lion would protect them, teach them and swear there was a world out there for them to discover despite the limits placed on them. The little lion was not like other sons of prominent officials, not like other boys and that’s why it hurt him as badly as it did when Hatice died. She was just a little thing, no more than ten when she got sick but Arslan refused to believe one of his little sisters would ever die - he wouldn’t let it happen. Then the family fell apart.
For years - Arslan was numb to the world and the things going around him unable to save a little girl that believed beyond anything else that her older brother could protect her and he couldn’t. It was a shot to the heart and seriously derailed any hopes Mehmet Karahan would’ve had in making his son a future politician or anything he’d be proud of. Arslan wore his pain like a razor sharp edge and the only person he’d allow in or even close to affecting him was Defne who instead of curling up with him for his protection protected her brother and held him when he cried and did her best to be the child Mehmet and Ayse always wished for. Things only changed when Arslan fell in love with life again - when he fell in love with food. The dish was simple but it’d been Hatice’s favorite and it tasted like home. One bite and it was as if Hatice was there reminding him that he could dream again too like he’d always told them they could and this time that he could dream his own dreams not just the ones designed for him. When it came time for college he enrolled culinary school adopting Hatice’s dream as his own. Mehmet was extremely disappointed in this decision but Arslan made it clear he would live on his terms now and dream with eyes wide open and dream impossible dreams.
It was clear that from the moment he made his first dish, Arslan possessed a unique gift as if blessed by the memory of his sister and it showed through. He won awards for his abilities and the masterful flavor combinations he made graduating with honors and offers to work anywhere in the world. Yet Arslan now moved to the beat of his own drum and chose for a long while to travel and experience each place he went to plate by plate sampling other cultures and peoples meeting interesting fellows along the way and making friends with an interesting lot of people. He told stories through food, wowed the palate and created a sensory experience wherever he went learning from whoever would teach him their tricks. Arslan discovered himself in these travels and soon a dream only he could dream. His own restaurant - a place where he could showcase his talents and help other young chefs discover their own passion for fine food. That’s when he settled here, in Montreal over a year ago with his sister Defne following closely behind once she’d broken free of the bonds their parents had placed upon her. Things haven’t turned out quite like what he’d wished they had but so long as he doesn’t stop dreaming here he’ll make a home and a real name for himself.
❝ salt is meant to add flavor not be the only thing you taste; such a shame there are such salty people in the world that they’ve forgotten life actually tastes like.
Arslan can be called plenty of things - some more unflattering terms then others but he is truly a very genuine individual. He means what he says and says what he means not veiled mystery or in between. While he is a bit of a mystery he’s a charmer, smooth talker but a genuine, easy going young man. He prides himself in being hard to read at times and a mite enigmatic to keep the mystery alive but he’s observant, inventive, bold even and very passionate about any number of pursuits. Ars is a bit of a rebel genius in the kitchen and in general as bad-ass as his food is delicious pushing boundaries and testing culinary limits but humble to a point letting his actions speak for themselves. He’s a real and incredible but still has a dangerous edge and rub him the wrong way you’ll feel it and know that even this daring gentleman has a point where he draws the line.
There is a reason however for such an edge, for the walls he’s reinforced and built around an image of himself that he’ll deny to a friend are there. While an open minded protector and champion of the pursuit of whatever makes you happy Arslan still for years felt like it was his fault and duty to protect someone who trusted him so deeply only to fail at it. That is why edges are there and walls up – why he’s got an apathetic and cynical view at times. It’s why he’s his harshest critic and very hard on himself. He’s a human being simply put as flawed as he can be perfect. Arslan is always walking a fine line between genius and madness but he makes an excellent show of it. Arslan is himself even if it’s taken a long time to really discover who he is.
