How do I pray the rosary? 💜

How to Pray the Rosary:

1. While holding the crucifix in your hand, make the Sign of the Cross, followed by reciting The Apostles’ Creed.

2. On the first bead next to the crucifix, recite the Our Father (that’s the prayer Jesus taught us to pray.)

3. On the three small beads, recite the Hail Mary for an increase of faith, hope, and charity.

4. Next on the big bead, recite the Glory Be.

5. Stay on the big bead. You must now decide which set of Mysteries you will pray on. There are four different Mysteries for the Rosary which I will color differently:

Joyful Mysteries (usually said on Monday and Saturday):

The Annunciation

The Visitation

The Nativity

The Presentation

The Finding of Jesus in the Temple

Luminous Mysteries (this is usually prayed on Thursday):

Jesus’ Baptism in the Jordan

The Wedding of Cana

The Proclamation of the Kingdom

The Transfiguration of Jesus

The Institution of the Eucharist

Sorrowful Mysteries (this is usually prayed on Tuesday and Wednesday):

The Agony of the Garden

The Scourging at the Pillar

The Crowning of Thorns

The Carrying of the Cross

Glorious Mysteries (this is usually prayed on Sunday and Wednesday):

6. After you pick which Mystery you want, using the big bead you are paused on recite the first mystery. Reflect on it briefly.

7. Staying on the big bead, recite the Our Father.

8. Move upwards to choose a side you want to start on. Each set is called a decade. Keeping in the mind the first mystery. On each small bead of a decade, pray recite the Hail Mary meanwhile, meditate on the first mystery. (For example, if I wanted to pray the Glorious Mysteries rosary, I could meditate on The Resurrection for the first decade, while reciting the Hail Mary for each bead.)

9. When you are finished the tenth Hail Mary, notice there is a bead that separates the start of the second mystery. Recite the Glory Be (I like to make the sign of the cross with the crucifix when I do this) and then recite the Fatima Prayer.

10. Now you start the second mystery. Recall the second mystery, meditate on it briefly, recite the Our Father. Move onto the new set of decades and repeat the steps above until you are finished making your way around.

11. Go to the big bead. Recite Hail Holy Queen and concluding prayer. I’ve seen people do different ones but I like the Rosary Prayer {Verse) Let us pray, (Response) O God, whose only begotten Son, by His life, death, and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal salvation. Grant, we beseech Thee, that while meditating on these mysteries of the most holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, that we may both imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise, through Christ our Lord. Amen.}.

12. To finish, use the crucifix to make the sign of the cross.

13. I personally like to kiss the crucifix afterwards as to say thank You to Jesus, but that’s not really required lol.

When you say your Rosary, don’t rush through it like you’re reading a newspaper. There is no race. It’s no contest. This is your time to develop your spirituality and holiness. Some people have trouble finishing the rosary due to its repetition, especially when tired. One of them is me if I say it before bed. It is better to meditate one or two decades than to pray nicely on one and rush the rest. Try to make each mystery like a movie in your head. Also, don’t wear the Rosary around your neck like souvenir. It must be treated with respect, as the devil sees it as a sword.

Edit: I also highly recommend do not pray the Rosary while you are driving. I don’t want to hear about you dying. Keep your eyes alert at all times. (Don’t use your phone in your hands either. Ooooh, Ami. Bless you. This is the kind of ask I love. Sadly I don't have a ton, most of the fics I've liked lately are really short, but here are some long fics I've loved in 2021.

The Serpent and the Lion by louiseparker (E, 212K) Despite the fact that I have zero interest in Harry Potter, I was pulled into this immediately and read all 200+K in two days. The author does a wonderful job of creating a nuanced OT5 friendship, writes great dialogue, and draws a intricate picture of life at Hogwartz. Most of all, I loved the use of flashbacks to tell the story, the deeply layered characterization of Harry, and how wonderfully he and Louis fit together and brought out the best in each other. I’m so happy I found this one.

somewhere in between lightning by jassy117, nauticalleeds, shiningdistractionwrites / @nauticalleeds @shiningdistrction (E, 100K) SO, I don't know what took me so long to read this one, but I just finished it last night and it was so much fun. It's lighthearted and sexy and satisfying. I loved the way the authors used flashbacks in a really organic way to fill in the backstory.

of the divine by @thedevilinmybrain (Mixed ratings, 2-part series, 104K) Oh my god. This series. I cried buckets. It’s so beautifully written. The sex scenes are so tender and sexy, but in such a pure way. Their relationship is so good… you can totally feel how much they love each other, the climactic scene OH MY GOD so intense. It’s also got great zouis friendship and a very sweet narry friendship. Tender punk Louis and guardian angel Harry. Read it.

But If This Ends by nonsensedarling / @absoloutenonsense (E, 107K) This author referred to this fic as their “depressed vampire” fic while they were writing, and it is that. But it’s also a unique story with beautifully fleshed out characters, plot twists, and super hot smut. Go check it out!

and i'm weeping warm honey and milk (that you stay surrounding me) by FangirlFlailings/ @wooltobravetheseason (M, 78K) This fic digs deep into therapy and recovery from PTSD and anxiety. It included everything from great Ot5 friendship, great side Ziam, coming out, commitment phobic Harry, and of course, vulnerable Louis. I really enjoyed this one.

11. *Numbers (series)* by @veteranklaus | this series legit made me disocciate for a few days especially since I just finished The Accident by Wiesel - the Holocaust is a trigger warning - very dark - the writing is literally award-winning, like the research done? the empathy paid to the characters? god tier!! I’ve written several research papers on post/during-holocaust times and i just want to applaud you for the work you’ve done in writing this - 2+ parts

The briefcase transports Klaus into a time to fall in love with a bookshop owner and photography enthusiast with soft amber eyes and a yellow star sewn into all of his clothes. And later, Klaus will stand next to that same man behind a fence, and he'll hold his hands up to a camera and pray to a merciless god that his siblings open a history book and find him.

12. *At the Edge of the Universe* by @veteranklaus | this is turning into a veteranklaus rec post but i don’t care - this is the life Klaus and Dave deserved!!! - the gays are really winning today y’all - cottagecore but make it the 1970s - 58k+

There is a knock at the door. With a heavy sigh, Klaus untangles himself from the mess of Dave's limbs with a mutter of 'I've got it'. They rarely get visitors out here, their closest neighbour being about three miles away, and Klaus didn't even hear a car or see any headlights outside.

He opens his door, expecting to see old Mrs Richards asking for one of the dog treats they always keep for the occasions her dog runs off. He does not, however, expect to see his siblings - all of them, standing outside his door. Well, Five is being held up by Diego, and Vanya is being carried by Luther, but they are all there, on his doorstep, on this evening in 1970.

It started off small. Easy to explain away. That was his downfall, in the end. By the time they diagnosed him, it was too late; the cancer had gotten a tight hold on his body.

Klaus wouldn't tell his siblings, not yet, no matter how much Ben begged him. He wanted to feel as normal as he could, for as long as he could.

Hi, I hope you're well! I just want to start off by thanking you for all the wonderful fics you have blessed me with!

I just finished Red vs. Black and was hoping you wouldn't mind answering some questions I have. As someone who risks his own life to save others, how does Liam justify being with someone he knows has killed innocent people? It'd be one thing if Zayn had only killed those directly involved with what happened to his family, but he's killed innocent civilians over minor inconveniences (such as the teenagers in the convertible). Does Zayn still think he is justified in doing so? Does he ever feel guilty about it? If not, how would Liam and Zayn be compatible if their moral compasses are so different?

Also, did Zayn's father ever make his way to the UK? Or was that just a lie he told Zayn to comfort him? Does Zayn ever find his family, especially his younger sister?

I know it's a lot, but I'd really love to hear your answers if you want to give them! Again thank you for all of your wonderful works!

So sorry it’s taken me this long to reply, but I didn’t forget!

To start I’d like to thank you for clicking, and finishing, Red vs. Black.  It isn’t the shortest of fics, nor is it the most delicate - to put it lightly.  For the latter alone, thank you.

These are such poignant, important questions.  Ones that are nearly word for word what I asked myself while planning the ending.

                         SPOILERS FOR ALL OF RED VS. BLACK

1)  How does Liam stay with Zayn after learning of all his senseless killings?

Honestly, I questioned this the most when feeling out the concept.  As a fic writer it’s expected of me to write not only a romance, but also a happy ending.  Of course fics exist that do neither, but they’re very rare and not exactly well-loved.  And truthfully, a massive point that I wanted to get across - and which in effect answers this question - is that despite people’s pasts, they cannot overcome them without being given the opportunity.  100%.  No ands, ifs, or buts.  For a prisoner to assimilate back into society and not go back to their old ways, they need to be trusted with a job.  With a salary (no matter how small), they need to trust themselves to be able to not buy anything that may contribute to poor habits: drugs, alcohol, weapons, gambling, a means of transport that will give them the ability to visit bad influences (more of a psychological thing, but still).  A lot of prisoners are never given this opportunity (especially in the United States), and therefore fall back into their old ways, which are more often than not coping mechanisms to deal with the fact that they can’t fit into society as easily as privileged people to begin with; it’s a terrible cycle.  However, there are plenty of success stories of those that truly wish to change and are lucky enough to stumble upon an employer or mentor or sponsor of some sort that hands them an inkling of hope/trust that they use to fight their way back up.  The fic is fantasy, and while Zayn’s story is rooted in real world PTSD, I think the prisoner analogy is easy for us to envision and therefore, understand why Liam acts the way he does.  I also made it a point in the last scene when they’re talking things out to have Liam voice his contingency: if Zayn so much as spits at anyone, he’s done for.  That’s to say, he’s not wiping his slate clean just yet.

2)  Does Zayn still feel his useless killings were justified?

I’m going to answer assuming that you’re referring to the time after the fic ends.

Looking back at his actions is something that would be inevitable when he starts therapy, and this is a perfect example of one of the questions his therapist would ask.  You may not like my answer, but as an author I find it imperative that I speak of my characters realistically and to keep them true, not how I want them to act.  That said, yes, Zayn would still find justification in why he’s done what he’s done.

There are a few instances in the story where this is actually explained.  Take the scene in the bar with fancy mixologists.  Zayn begins to get aggravated over the people in the room simply because they’re ignorant to the feeling of significant pain.  There’s also the scene where he’s back home in Cheshire and Harry straight out tells him, he may be furious at the unfairness of the world, but he needs to learn how to come to terms with it.  It’s not going to change.  This right here is what a therapist would work with him to do, and also why I had Harry be the one to bring this up in the story - he is one.

I know it sounds incredibly foreign to the average person, but trust me when I say that people struggling with anger problems founded in (un)fairness, exist.  I’ve spoken with professionals about it.  Add on crippling childhood PTSD and a villain like Zayn can definitely be born.  It’s why treatment is needed, and why the answer is ‘yes’ in the beginning of Zayn’s journey to peace.  When his answer switches over to ‘no’, that’s when it’ll be outwardly apparent that he’s beating his ailment.  Unfortunately, for many, the inner battle with mental health is lifelong; the answer ‘no’ will never turn solid.

3)  Does Zayn feel guilty about the above?

Again, there are a couple times when I write Zayn to literally mention how he feels zero guilt.  However, if you really really pay attention you’ll notice that these instances aren’t villain related.

For example, meeting Liam’s parents:

After handing his father and Zayn each their tea, Liam looks between them suspiciously. "Leaving the two of you in a room together was a bad idea."

"Don't know what you're on about," Geoff replies innocently. "We were just talking about cars, weren't we Zayn?" Even with all eyes on him, the pressure of lying doesn't get to Zayn. It never does.

"Yeah," he agrees, bringing his drink up to his lips carefully, "cars."

Or, after Zayn walks out from the comedy club:

"It takes a lot of courage to get up there and do something like that, don't you think?"

"Not really."

Liam looks to the side, hoping that he can interpret more from Zayn's answers by seeing the expressions that go with their frankness. "So if I signed you up, you would do it?"

"Why would I want to make a room full of strangers laugh?" Zayn retorts, his right eye scrunching up in distaste, like it's a mannerism of his provoked by moronic questions. "I don't have a superiority complex." Liam thinks he might, but. "I know I'm better than those people, no mediocracy to cover up here."

So we’ve got those, but then we’ve also got this massive character point:

Right as the last of the snake's body emerges, Zayn snaps his fingers, triggering heavy hip-hop music to flow through his headphones and drown out the man's blood curdling cry.

If he could permanently damage people who deserved it, not always because they did something to Zayn, but because he liked to play god and throw them a massive curveball like life had done to him, then why shouldn't he? So long as he pulls his soundproof headphones off the little robot on the inside of his right arm to avoid listening to the pain his choice brutality caused, there's no valid reason he shouldn't take advantage of the gift he was given.

From where he's sitting, he probably won't be able to hear anything, but he fastens the equipment over his ears just in case.

All at once, the atmospheric sounds of central London, mixed with the terrified screams of those in the burning building beneath them, hit Zayn at full force. The sensory overload alone would normally be enough to piss him off, but tack on his protection from audible trauma being taken and being spoken to while in villain mode, and he's seeing red as deep as the pits of hell he knows he's destined for.

I wrote Zayn’s headphone usage as a way to alert that the reader that he does, in fact, feel villain-related guilt.  He can’t act on his anger without them on.  He’ll have his victims screams stuck in his head, and he’d never be able to handle that a.k.a. there’s zero satisfaction from their literal pain.  Think about that and it’ll answer your follow-up question.

4)  What happened to Zayn’s family?

Zayn’s father meant what he said - he’d do whatever he needed to reunite his family.  That wasn’t a falsity at all.  The problem is money.  And politics, but let’s start with the issue of money.  It took Yaser nine years to save up the amount he paid to have Zayn and Waliyha smuggled across the border.  The whole concept of smuggling is that it’s a cheaper option than the legal one.  So if we look at this, you can see how long it would take him to save for three adult visa fees, three adult plane tickets, and enough to stay afloat for a month or so when they get to England.  Now add in the politics of the early 2000s and the Afghanistan/Pakistan region.  We know that Yaser fixed air conditioners for a living.  No person with that average of a background is going to have an easy time immigrating anywhere.  Even so, would it really take him over 18 years?  While it’s plausible, perhaps a man with such determination would find another way.  Or...was that unnecessary because he was fed lies?

Think about it.  After several weeks and no word from his children, don’t you think he’d cause a riot?  He’s the type to drive over to Badar’s house and demand his relatives get in contact with him to find out what’s going on.  But, given the flashback Zayn has, it’s obvious that Badar never planned on accompanying any of the children to the UK, and if that’s the case, he clearly couldn’t return to Quetta.  I imagine a fully rehearsed story was told to all of the children’s parents about how they were killed somewhere along the way.

As for Waliyha, her whereabouts were told to my gang over on Patreon a while ago.  In short, yes, she’s still alive and I plan on pitching the book’s sequel to publishers as a graphic novel series revolved around her location.  Louis’ dark web bot finally found a hint as to where that might be, so Zayn and Liam go on a journey across Europe to find her.  Each issue would (probably) take place in a new city and involve both fighting a single bad guy.

Hey Arthur I wanted to give you first 📴 much praise & encouragement. Your openness with your struggle and your obvious victories so far are inspiring! Thank you for your loving response to the Lord.

I also had some food for thought: my friend's dad was diagnosed with cancer, and he ultimately decided to go vegan instead of doing chemo and... it has reduced his cancer to undetectable. Blows my mind. You talk about difficulties with diet, but there are so many delicious vegan recipes, and you end up feeling great. Don't let your flesh win this battle! Kill those cravings for (processed) sugar. Eat fruit, whatever is natural and sweet and tasty. Just not skittles or milk chocolate, haha. I'd even encourage you to eat bread, I don't think carbs are your enemy like many say, just eat complex carbs like you talked about, and natural carbs, not processed or white carbs. Whole wheat, etc, but I'm no expert on the carb thing that's just my personal experience.

Also, fasting kills cancer. If you fast for 7 days your body starves cancer cells. Fasting can reduce a persons cancer likelihood by 70% if they fast for one week, only water. Since you already have cancer I believe, it is also very effective to fast before starting chemo, it causes drastic changes in effectiveness of chemo therapy if you fast for a few days before starting. Your cancer cells literally live off the food you eat so when you fast they are one of the first things to starve to death.

Now, I know you have diabetes so you may not be able to fast yet, but the vegan diet can reduce your A1C levels till you are no longer diabetic (if you're type 2) and then you can fast! .... I think🤔.

Anyway, I wanted to encourage you with those tidbits, and to dare you to start eating vegan. You will live longer, which we all want you to, and you will not dread your vegan existence like you may think you will, you get used to it eventually, and enjoy it!

I want you to live long brother, though I barely know you. No more mr nice guy on your flesh, put it into submission, you can do it- I promise! Just do what you can. It'll be easy once you get going.

Anyway, no pressure honestly, I just WANTED TO MAKE THOSE EXTRAORDINARY CLAIMS SO YOU CAN LOOK INTO THEM FOR YOURSELF because they're unbelievable until I looked into them for myself. I really see a reality where you and God easily beat your flesh problem and you go on in peace here on earth for many more years. I come against all the stuff fogging your mind making you think you need candy and all the other sugar poison- you will look back and think wow I was trapped mentally in a lie and didn't even know it.

Forget Me Not Chapter 25 ~The Horse Whisperer~

Agitated, Jamie tore himself away from the window. 

Highly unprecedented for the Highlands, it was another beautiful day with clear blue skies as it had been for the past week and a half. Usually, it would rain for days on end at this time of year, so why was he feeling restless when he could be outdoors?

Although spring sprung early this year, his enthusiasm hit an all-time low. Verbally expressing his need to be useful, he was adamantly advised by doctors not to return to work just yet, as standing for long hours would be detrimental to his rehabilitation. His recovery was going well, and everyone seemed astounded with his progress, but his therapy and core training wasn't cutting it anymore. He needed stimulation.

It would be another few hours before Claire finished work and came over to stay for her day-off. Despite her hectic schedule, somehow she managed to pop by for a visit whenever she could, but she was taking their  taking-it-slow  to another new level. And it frustrated the hell out of him even though it had only been over a week since they got back on track together. Not wanting to rock the boat, he resolved not to push, especially after hearing her story of the bullying that went on in high school. Maybe with family dinner and wine tonight, she would be more receptive.

With his mind made up, he decided to head to the stable, leaving his walking stick behind. His recuperation had been technically perfect, with the best medical care, a peaceful environment and all the time he needed to heal at his disposal. But he was bored sitting about waiting for his next visitor or next bout of therapy. And he felt like he was slowly stagnating while everyone else carried on with their lives. Perhaps, working with Isobel Dunsany's fostered horse would be the ideal distraction he needed.

Stepping outside of the manor house, he decided to take the rear footpath that led to the stable. It was a glorious day, and he could feel the sun beating down on his back. Sensing his mood improving, he hastened his pace as much as the limp on his leg would allow him, careful not to walk over uneven surfaces.

Out in the open, the sunshine embraced him with soothing warmth as the scent of fresh grass filled his nostrils. The fields were adorned with an array of assorted wildflowers which spilt over the dirt pathway he followed. Slowly he began to relax as the high-pitched chatter of the birds and scrambling critters kept him company as he walked. He was hoping the horse would not be in too much of a bad state as most were found in so-called rescue farms. His father often said such places took far too many strays and eventually, they were unable to cope with its' proper care, and most end up in slaughterhouses.

When Jamie reached the stable, he tapped the door and gave a low whistle, a habit whenever he greeted a horse in its space. He walked toward the rear and found a bag of carrots and grabbed a few. Stopping in front of the last stall, his gaze immediately fell on a pair of wary eyes staring back at him.

"Ach, hello  a chuilein ," he cooed.

The horse was so black that he almost blended into the shadows. With its ears pinned back, the horse backed up and snorted in a warning. His whole body quivered with pent-up nervous energy, and an aura of fear and adrenaline pumped out in waves.  Christ, it's a thoroughbred, and he's beautiful!  Jamie stood still and regulated his breathing, channelling a calmness for both of them.

"Aren't ye a handsome one, aye?" he said in a deep soothing voice. "Och, it's understandable to be skittish. I'd be too after an escape from slaughter."

The horse pawed at the ground, rearing back as if trying to gain his bearings. Stepping sideways, Jamie took in his lean body that hinted good breeding but noticed that he was undernourished and terrified. He whispered some more comforting words in Gaelic, patiently allowing the animal to familiarise itself with his scent. Suddenly the horse tossed his head and met his gaze head-on, the dark knowing eyes burned with a fierceness that pegged him as a fighter and a rebel. He was too spirited to be broken, Jamie thought, but he could see there were abuse and broken trust.

"So what do you think?"

Jamie spun towards the voice, his eyes narrowing when he saw Geneva approaching him. She was wearing jeans that were too tight and a thin shirt, revealing a crimson bra underneath. "What are ye doing here?" he seethed, irritation crawling his back as he thought of his father's warning and Claire's story.

"I stopped by to check on the horse. My sister is at work, and I'm unemployed, and I have plenty of time on my hands," she replied in a deliberate, sultry voice. "...like you." She walked over to where he was standing and stopped at arm's length, her gaze openly sweeping over his figure.

More irritated than enticed with her suggestiveness, he crossed his arms over his chest. "I'm sorry, Geneva, you have to go. I cannot allow ye to come here. This is private property, and only Isobel has permission to use this stable. If yer sister is worried about the horse, I will see to it that it's weel taken care of. Now please leave."

Geneva clucked and ignored his demand. "He is a beauty, isn't he?" she murmured, brushing past against Jamie to peer into the stall. "I don't think Isobel would be allowed to keep him, though. God bless her, she loves animals, but she doesn't have the time."

Momentarily distracted, Jamie turned his attention back to the horse, studying the matted mane and too skinny body, and eyes that had seen too much pain. "Isobel has nothing to worry about. The horse will always have a home here. And if she can't keep him, weel, he can stay here," he absentmindedly reassured her as he offered the carrot through the rails.

The horse stared back at him, not blinking, his body shaking with an intensity that Jamie hadn't seen before. He made no move to take the carrot even if Jamie pushed it farther out. It was rare when a horse didn't immediately take to him, and those shadows in his dark eyes made Jamie even more curious. Smiling to himself, he fell into a stream of Gaelic to woo him, and the horse quivered in response before taking the treat from his hand.

Then an idea sprung in his head and thought of the possibility of keeping the horse.  Donas, that's a perfect name! He looks like the devil himself!  Suddenly, something inside him reared up, an instinct from within his gut coming to the surface. Jamie knew only too well there were no guarantees, but this horse deserved a chance.

"Well, I best get going then since you don't want me here." His reverie quickly passed as a hand touched his arm, nearly making him jump. 

He had been so engrossed with his thoughts, he had almost forgotten about Geneva. "Aye, best ye leave. It's for the best," he said shortly, running a hand through his hair, impatient to be alone with the horse.

Geneva simply nodded and began to walk briskly away, but then half-way she stopped and turned around. "Oh Jamie, just out of curiosity, there's a rumour going around that your brother is seeing someone. I asked him about it when we met in the shop, but he was tight-lipped about the subject."

The question piqued Jamie's interest as he had not heard of the rumour, nor had he seen Willie for ages. Gossips are always rife in small villages, and he tended not to pay attention. Usually able to mask his expression, this time, his surprise must have been written all over his face as it encouraged Geneva to continue.

"I also heard a rumour that you and Claire broke up and that Willie had been taking her out on dinner dates while you were all alone by yourself cooped in a big house," she revealed, her eyes searching for clues in his face. The moment she saw him winced, she feigned regret, a hand dramatically flying to cover her mouth. "Oh, dear, I'm so sorry. I thought you knew." 

Jamie tensed as a rush of different emotions washed over him. Trying his hardest not to look affected, he reminded himself he was talking to a mendacious person. "I told ye to leave, Geneva. Now!" he warned in a low voice, taking a step forward.

Her provocative gaze swept over him. "Well, listen, Jamie ... if you need someone to talk to, you know where to reach me." Her smile was sharp and devious as she tipped her head and strode away without a backward glance.

Stunned, he watched her go, leaving him with all sorts of scenarios running through his mind.  No, that can't be true. Willie would never do such a thing behind my back. Nor Claire. Not my Claire.  In as much as he didn't want to believe Geneva, he couldn't help his thoughts from running away from him. He thought back of the many weeks when he tried to call her. Was she using fatigue as an excuse not to see him?  Christ!  And when was the last time Willie came to Lallybroch? Jamie knew his brother had been sleeping at the girls' house.  But was there more going on?

Frustrated, Jamie let out a silent curse, making the horse squeal at the tense atmosphere Geneva left behind. Centring himself for the sake of the horse, he sought calm and logic, but a part of him couldn't wait till evening to talk to Claire. He needed to see her now. For his peace of mind.

With shaking hands, Claire slid the twenty-pound note over the counter and hurriedly retrieved the boxed kit that was handed to her and stuffed it in her satchel. Even though she knew there was nobody behind, she craned her neck to check, just in case.  Oh God, how is this possible? Maybe, I'm mistaken.  Taking her change and receipt, she nodded a thank you to the girl and hurried out of the pharmacy.

She still had time to go home and change before dinner was served in Lallybroch. Although she was excited to have the whole family, including Geillis, dining together on the same table, she couldn't help feel the growing apprehension inside of her.  What if? Am I ready for this?  

It started off as a banter earlier in the day. Claire, Geillis and Louise were having their morning break in the staff canteen and catching up on each other's love life. Claire and Louise had teasingly prodded Geillis to reveal the details of her dates with Willie. Still dubious of Willie's true feelings, Geillis simply gave them a mysterious smile dismissing their protests with a simple explanation of,  it's early days.  But Claire knew better. How many nights had she lain awake in her room, listening to Willie and Geillis romp the night away? She shook visibly as she tried to erase the image of them in her head.

Like a true friend, Claire gave Geillis reprieve and shifted the focus on herself, which in retrospect had been a bad mistake. Or maybe not?  Claire had begun to discuss the probability of her having stomach flu or ulcer, after having an aversion to coffee and recently, coriander. Not one to think before speaking, Geillis just came out with it. "Sounds like ye're pregnant, Claire." 

Silence on their table had ensued after Geillis' straightforward, no-nonsense explanation. It was awhile before Claire found her voice. "No. It's impossible. It can't be." But her friends' knowing look and smile told her otherwise.

She had forgotten the rest of their discussion after that, as her mind locked on the possibility that she could be pregnant. Without telling her friends, she left work early to get herself a pregnancy test kit. 

Jesus H. Roosevelt Christ! How is that even possible?

On auto mode, she stopped by several shops to buy some flowers, pastries and wine to bring to Lallybroch before heading home. She wasn't particularly good in math as she tried basic arithmetic in her head while she went about doing her errands.  Just breath, Beauchamp, it's probably just stomach ulcer caused by stress. 

Hah! Who are you kidding? You missed your period! You're pregnant!

Claire scoured her memories as she drove back home, wondering when she and Jamie were last intimate. They hadn't slept with each other ever since the shooting, and before that, they had been cautious. But were they?   Think Beauchamp, think!

And then it dawned on her. It happened on the night of the Grand Opening. The night Willie was taken hostage by Annalise. But before that fateful night unfolded, she had been on duty overseeing the ball. Sometime in the evening, Jamie got hot and heavy on her while they were on the dancefloor and they later disappeared in her office. Jamie didn't have a condom, but she had reassured him she had started taking the pill. Maybe the pill wasn't effective yet when they had sex.  Oh, God!

Feeling suddenly nauseous, she eased her car into the driveway and let herself into the house. She was greeted by Willie fresh from the shower, clad only with a towel around his waist. The moment he saw her, worry swept across his face.

"Claire! Are ye alright? God, ye look pale like ye've seen a ghost or something." He walked over to her and kissed the top of her head before stepping back to examine her face with intense scrutiny.

She tried to look cheerful, but her mind was focused elsewhere. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just hungry and tired. Dinner tonight should do the trick."

Willie didn't look convinced, but he let her go. "Right, Geillis is in the bedroom, if ye need her. And later, when ye're ready to go, we can all go in the same car. Ye will be staying overnight in Lallybroch, aye?"

Claire nodded with a smile and walked passed him, too preoccupied to offer further explanation and too anxious to get the test over and done with before she faced her family that night. 

Alone in her private quarters, she hurriedly stripped off her clothes and wrapped herself in a terry robe. Taking the test kit with her, she headed for the bathroom where the mist and damp air from its recent use enveloped her, lending an atmosphere of perturbation. As she unwrapped the package, she took big calming deep breaths before following the instructions written on the box. Sat on the toilet seat with her head bowed in silent prayer, she waited for what seemed like an eternity, and when she finally saw the result, she let out a gasp.  I'm pregnant! Oh no! I can't be.  Although deep down, she already suspected the outcome, it still had taken her by surprise with a force that took her breath away.

Her head started to spin as a roller coaster of emotion came to life, bringing her to dizzying heights and then to stomach-churning low. She was elated, unsure, thrilled and frightened all at the same time. Her heart started to beat erratically, and suddenly the four walls in the bathroom rose up to close in on her, and no matter how she tried to calm her breathing, she felt like she was losing grip of reality. And then everything went black.

She felt weightless, cocooned in warmth and strong arms. From a distance, she heard her name called. Then blood started to rush back to her head like a raging river, swift and turbulent. Her eyes flew open and were met by an anxious pair of blue.

"There ye are," Willie said softly, holding her firm as he examined her face. "I heard a noise, and when ye didn't answer, I had to force the door open. Are ye hurt? How are ye feeling?" He carried her into the living room like she weighed nothing.

Confused, Claire's mouth opened and closed in an attempt to answer, but her speech temporarily lost its function. When she tried to speak again, the cold air hit her, making her shiver violently. Willie tightened his grip in response.

"What the fuck are ye doing with her?" A deep booming voice growled.

Suddenly lucid, Claire's head snapped towards the doorway and saw Jamie's frame taut and tensed and his face red as an angry blister. He looked like a crazed animal, with his mussed flaming curls and glacial blue eyes. "Jamie!" she whispered, under her breath.  What is he doing here?

Calmly and unperturbed, Willie kept his hold on her. "She fainted. I found her on the bathroom floor. What are ye doing here?"

Geillis walked in next, agitation marring her face. "What's up with all the commotion? I'm trying to speak to my ma on the phone ...Oh...!" Her voice trailed as her eyes scanned the room, absorbing the strained atmosphere. Ignoring the anger emanating from Jamie, she turned her attention to Willie and Claire, her expression switching from irritation to concern. She immediately walked over to them. "Hey, what happened? Claire, chick, are ye alright? I was worried about ye earlier, but ye left work before I had a chance to speak to ye." Her friend laid a cool hand on her forehead and stroke her head.

Claire tried to find the words, but she was too muddled to comprehend the scene unfolding before her. "I-I'm feeling loads better now ...I think. Jamie?" She stretched her neck to catch a glimpse of Jamie, who was now purposely striding towards them, his limp giving him a dangerous edge. He looked like a man with a mission with eyes like daggers on his brother. "J-Jamie, why are you looking like you're about to murder someone?"

Ignoring her question, Jamie roughly scooped her up from Willie's arm and glared at him. "Ye're half-naked holding my lass. What the bloody hell do you think ye're doing walking around like that as if ye live on yer own? Have ye no shame?" Jamie shouted.

"Jamie!" Geillis and Claire simultaneously blurted out in surprise. 

Then it dawned on Claire that Willie only had a towel wrapped around his hips and her with only a bathrobe on. That must have been a sight looking at it from Jamie's perspective.  But still, why is he reacting like this?  She could feel his body coiled in tension against hers, breaths shuddering in and out.

"For fuck sake, Jamie! What's this all about? I just came out of the shower, and Claire went in. I was in the kitchen when I heard her fall..." He stopped for a minute until realisation washed over Willie. "Christ, ye don't think Claire and I..."

Finally, understanding what was going on, Geillis stepped in to ease the pressure off from Willie, placing a hand on Jamie's shoulder. "Jamie, yer brother and I are together, and we have been for a while, so cool yer jets, aye?" She gave him a  back-off  look, not intimated by the whole situation. An awkward silence followed as the brothers continued to glower at one another and Jamie didn't look he was about to apologise. Then in true Geillis style, she began to prattle like a mother hen, knowing Jamie won't back down, at least not until he's calmed down. "Right, come on, we're all going to be late for dinner. Chop, chop, everybody back to yer rooms."

Claire nearly laughed out loud if it weren't for Jamie's tight grip on her. Without another word, Jamie turned around and marched toward her bedroom, holding her firmly against his heaving chest. 

She opened her mouth to explain, but Jamie grumpily cut her off. "Alright, that's it." No sooner they had crossed the threshold than he tossed her onto the bed, where she bounced once in the air. Keeping his heated eyes on her, he slammed the door shut and hurriedly kicked off his shoes before crawling towards her. His face was twisted in a mixture of frustration and pain. "I've been extremely patient with ye, Sassenach. I ken I made a mistake asking for a break all those weeks ago, and I've been paying for it ever since. My head is filled with so many questions, and I've been wondering if ye still want me in yer life. Then this morning, I came face-to-face with that little witch, Geneva. Like a fool, I listened to her story about a rumour going around that my brother was seeing someone. So, I came looking for ye at work, and I was told ye left early, and so did Willie. Then, I walked in through yer bloody door to find Willie half-naked and ye in just yer bathrobe in his arms. Do ye have any idea what that was like?"

On her elbows, she edged backwards toward the headboard, her heart thumping hard against her rib cage. "Jamie, listen, I have something to tell you..."

"Oh no, I'm not done yet." His hand closed around her ankle and dragged her beneath his body. "You once said ye love me, but I haven't heard ye repeat those wee words in a verra long time. And I'm beginning to wonder if something has changed. I'm not the kind of man who begs, but I'm going to make an exception with ye, only because I can't live without ye. And if ye think I'm just going to sit back and not try to win ye back, ye have another think coming." One strong hand grasped her knee and curled it around his waist. When he settled between her legs, her head fell back on the mattress with a whimper. "I love ye Claire Elizabeth Beauchamp, ye hear me? Always have, right from the beginning. Ye don't get to swoop in, make me fall in love with ye and bail. Oh no, lass, that's not how it's going to work." Jamie pressed his erection between her thighs and muttered expletives under his breath. "Can ye live without us? Because I can't. I'm done waiting, and I need ye so badly, Sassenach..."

Claire gasped as he rotated his hips against her. "Jamie, wait, please..."

Placing his weight on his forearms, he stilled completely and leaned down to speak urgently against her lips. "Ye were my light at my lowest moment. Don't send me back out in the darkness, please, Sassenach." His mouth parted against her neck to taste her skin. "Christ, I've missed ye..."

"Jamie, I don't think now's the time." His fervent plea was breaking her heart, but she needed to tell him her news.

"Why?" His hands were moving quickly to untie her robe. "Don't ye want me anymore?" he mumbled as he planted kisses all over her face.

"Jamie, you're not going to be in the mood after I tell you my news." She felt his stomach and thigh muscles tighten as he grazed her earlobes with his teeth.

"Not going to happen..." Then his mouth sought hers before their lips locked in a kiss that shook her soul. When he finally pulled away, his eyes were dark and heavy with arousal. "...unless ye tell me ye don't love me anymore."

"It's not that..." she whispered, her heart lodged in her throat.  Oh, Jesus, are we ready for this? Am I ready for this? What about the things I want to do before settling down?

"Tell me, Sassenach, what is it?"

"I'm pregnant." Then her face crumpled, and she started to cry.

“This message will not just be for Muslims; it is not just for Christians; it is not just for Jews, it is for every inhabitant of this planet,” Minister Farrakhan said. “I say to you with deep humility from the 25th Surah of the Qur’an: ‘Blessed is He Who sent down the Discrimination upon His servant that he might be a warner to the nations.”

Throughout the almost three-hour speech, Minister Farrakhan paid tribute to the Nation Of Islam leaders who came before him, before addressing his detractors who have continued to accuse him of being both racist and anti-Semitic.

“I’ve never shed the blood of another human being to get where I am today. I represent a God that came with the power to save. They tell lies to make you think I am a bigot or anti-semite so that you won’t listen to what I’m saying. So far they’ve been pretty successful,” Min. Farrakhan said. “Now I have to bring up the thing I’m doing that makes me so hated. The question we have to ask is, ‘Are you a hypocrite, America?’ If you didn’t mean for the black, poor, and woman to enjoy full rights of citizenship, what did you mean? You can’t pacify us with a smooth, crooked tongue. We know you. We’ve lived with you over 465 years.”

The 87-year old polarized public figure also addressed the novel coronavirus, stating that the wave isn’t over before cautioning Black people about rushing to sign up for a government-issued vaccine.

“All of us have witnessed the effects of Coronavirus, which is once again beginning to spike in the U.S.,” Farrakhan continued. “I say to my brothers and sisters in Africa, if they come up with a vaccine, be careful. Do not take their medications. We need to call a meeting of our skilled virologists, epidemiologists, and students of biology and chemistry. We need to give ourselves something better. There are 14 therapies we can treat it with. The virus is a pestilence from Heaven. The only way to stop it is going to heaven. They’re plotting to give 7 billion 500 million people a vaccination. Dr. Fauci, Bill [and Melinda] Gates, you want to depopulate the earth. What the hell gives you that right? To those who think they’ll die without the vaccine, you’re sure to die now. They [just] want a quicker death.”

yes I have a list!!! I’ll copy and paste an old one I’ve used and updated recently. though a lot of the documentaries I watch are crime/psychology related so some of these are going to be morbid, just a heads up. 

the crime/psychology list

- Making a Murderer: this one is on netflix, looks at possible police corruption, wrongful imprisonment and analyses a current murder trial. it’s pretty damn popular and it’s brilliantly well done (though frustrating on a lot of levels) so check it out. it’s about a current case too so there’s still new information to look up. 

- There’s Something Wrong with Aunt Diane: a family tries to investigate what really happened the day diane schuler fatally drove into oncoming traffic with 6 children in her car. this one haunts me for some reason, not a lot of it makes sense in terms of her character. 

- Dear Zachary: A Letter to His Son About His Father: very tragic story but good insight into how the justice system and child protective services need constant reevaluation and scrutiny, and the story also features probably the bravest and most supernaturally compassionate and strong couple I’ve ever seen like if you want just an example of two incredible human beings then pay attention to the mother and father. 

The Boy Who Should Have Lived: looks at the story of a boy with a mental illness, his parents struggle to get him help and how the system utterly fucking failed him. 

The 9/11 Faker: a woman who got away with pretending to be a survivor of 9/11 and the aftermath of her actions within the survivor group she totally fooled. 

The Imposter: amazing documentary on a man who pretended to be a long lost missing child and disturbingly fooled a lot of people. I didn’t even think this one was real until the end. 

- Back From the Edge: documentary on borderline personality disorder that interviews people living with the disorder (women AND men which is good, because borderline can seem like it presents quite differently in either gender).

- Boy Interrupted: about a boy named evan who suffered from bipolar disorder from a very young age. it looks at the genetic influences, how it affected the family in the aftermath, and it’s heartbreaking to see how the illness manifests itself in such a young child. 

- Just Melvin, Just Evil: this one is centered around a large extended family and how child sexual abuse has affected its members. it’s got very triggering content for abuse survivors so avoid it if that’s a problem for you, but it’s actually a really important insight into how abuse contributes to poverty, alcoholism, dysfunction, self-harm, mental health issues and how that cycle is perpetuated)

- Child of Rage: looks at the rehabilitation of a child suffering from reactive attachment disorder which is when a child fails to develop emotional attachment or empathy for others (sometimes being the foundation of sociopathy/psychopathy), in this case due to sexual abuse and neglect. it involves recordings of therapy sessions with a young girl who experienced this and how she is treated for the disorder.

- Interview with Expert FBI Criminal Profiler: basically just an interview with one of my role models John Douglas who probably has one of the most extensive careers as a criminal profiler and conducted a huge body of research that contributed to the most effective methods of catching killers and preventing crime.

Love Crimes of Kabul: follows several women in a Afghanistan prison and their stories of what “crimes” had them imprisoned (just dont look through the comment section. this applies to all videos obviously but this one in particular). 

History of the Capital Punishment: kinna self explanatory but really awesome because crime AND history.

Broadmoor: documentary on a psychiatric facility in Britain that contains violent offenders who suffer from mental illness, and looks at the rehabilitation process and at the morality of treating or punishing the patients/offenders)

India’s Daughters: documentary on the issue of rape culture in India and the sociopolitical aftermath of the rape and murder of a medical student, Jyoti.

Thin: follows several women in a treatment facility for eating disorders.  

and if you’re just interested in crime and profiling etc then you can find most good 30 - 40 min crime documentaries on youtube from Crime Investigation Channel but keep in mind these can be quite full-on since some of them have “dramatic reenactments” of crime (and tbh some of them go over the top to the point where I feel like it can get disrespectful)

Nanking: an interesting documentary that revolves around the foreigners who stayed behind in Nanking to create a Safety Zone for 200,000 chinese residents fleeing from the atrocities committed by the invading japanese military. It uses narration by actors and interviews with actual witnesses and survivors of the time. 

Sorrowful Homecoming: a korean documentary (with subtitles) that follows a japanese journalist Takashi Ito who has been interviewing and advocating for korean survivors used as “comfort women” during wartime by japanese soldiers. this one is very upsetting and has a lot of sexual violence described so keep that in mind before you watch it.  

The Romanov Dynasty: mini documentary series about each tsar and tsarina who ruled during the 300 year long romanov dynasty. IT’S SO WELL DONE and was made with so much love. 

Marie Antoinette Documentary: one of the best documentaries on the historical bae who has always been grossly misunderstood and misrepresented even in modern history classes. 

Mystery of the Romanovs: looks into the discovery of the remains of the Romanovs, insight into what happened the night they were murdered and investigation into the potential survival of Anastasia and/or Alexei.

Catherine the Great: the title says it all, gurl was great. amazing leader who knew exactly how to play the political/royal game and told all the men who tried to oppress or abuse her to sit the fuck down and shut the fuck up y’all best recognize.

Servants: The True Story of Life Below Stairs: really cool little doco series on the people who served the upper class in the UK back in the day (Victorian, Edwardian eras etc) and what their daily lives were like and what kind of people they were.

And Man Created Dogs: how wolves/dogs evolved and bonded with us and became the natural BFFs of humans like god bless the power of evolution and oxytocin.

less morbid documentaries in general

- Babies: this is a lovely documentary (FOR A CHANGE). it doesn’t use interviews or voice overs, it just follows the development and differing parenting of four babies from four different nations: Japan, America, Namibia and Mongolia. it’s really interesting and excruciatingly cute.

- My Heart Belongs to My Dad: looks at 3 men doing their best to raise their children as single parents. 

Nomadic Tribes of the Sahara: basically the title sums it up! the narrator is kind of annoying but it’s a really awesome look at how the tribes of the sahara adapt to live in such a scorching climate. 

- Poor Kids: follows children in the UK who live below the poverty line and how their family’s make do from day to day

Search For Habitable Planets: because space is hella and maybe one day we’ll end up on one of these bad boys like not in my lifetime at least but hey.

An Astronaut’s Guide to Life in Space: mini videos about Chris Hadfield doing adorable and informative shit in space

Cosmos: everything you’ve ever wanted to know about everything that hurts your brain to even think aka the entire universe brought to you by Carl Sagan
