Day 3 : St. Cirq Lapopie, Gouffre de Padirac, & Rocamadour The last day in #Toulouse began with a visit to the fairy-tale village of #St_Cirq_Lapopie. It is a commune in south-western France and is a member of the "Les Plus Beaux Villages de France" (The most beautiful villages of France) association. Many old houses are well preserved and turned into little museums and galleries, as well as restaurants and gift shops. The trip continues to #Gouffre_de_Padirac, a vertical yet also an underground cave located at Lotdepartment area. The cave was first explored in 1889 by Edouard Alfred Martel, and since then became a famous tourism site. He also found the new knowledge, speleology, a study of caves. The chasm is 99 m deep around its rim with a diameter of approximately 35 metres. Visitors can descend 75 m to enter the underground cave system. At a depth of 103 metres, it has a subterranean river system that is explorable by boat. Last but not least, we visited #Rocamadour, a clifftop village in south-central France. From afar the village seems like it was carved to the steep cliff. The site is well known for the Cité Réligieuse, due to many pilgrimage happening in centuries to the Chapelle Notre-Dame, with its Black Madonna statue, and the Romanesque-Gothic Basilica of St-Sauveur.
