Vocaloid Tourney Submissions Results and Preliminaries Info

For the preliminaries, there are 86* songs competing for 8 open spots in the bracket. (again, full list below)

The prelims will be structured as follows:

Part A: *2 songs - a mini pre-preliminary round of sorts between two versions of "Play" by shr - the original Kagamine Rin version vs an UTAU cover featuring Matusdappoiyo, since both versions were submitted. The Winner of this round will participate in part B. (One day long)

Part B: 85 songs - 17 matches of 5 songs, with 1 winner each. I will be releasing 3 or 4 matches every other day to stagger them. Winners of part B will move on to part C. (16 days long)

Part C: 17 songs - 2 matches of 8/9 songs, each with the top 4 songs advancing. Both matches will be released the same day (One week long)

if anyone has any objections to this, or any better ideas, lemme know now, bc that was the best I could come up with. I didnt want the first round of matches to be between too many songs at once, as I felt that would probably be less accurate, and more intimidating so less people would listen to all the songs....... idk

What's Kamen rider about?

Great question without an easy answer!

I'll do my best to try and explain it since I'm just starting to know what Kamen Rider is too XD

So, the best way I know to exemplify to someone is "like power rangers but with, most seasons, 2 heroes instead of a big team" and also more serious yet without losing the silly factor.

Each season has it's own cast, story, rules of the world, and villain, so Kamen Rider Den-o, doesn't work by the same rules as Kamen Rider Wizard, even if they are in the same franchise, think Final Fantasy, were each new FF has it's own world instead of a continuos long plot.

So you can jump into any interation of Kamen Rider and not be lost, the question is if you'd like this version and keep going.

My first Rider is Den-o, and I fell in love with the silliness AND the characters, bc that story has a weak villain, good mystery, but mostly focused on characters, in specific the Taros with our main boy Ryotaro and the mystery of Ryo's older sister' lost memories.

Now I'm watching Wizard, and it is a completely diferent plot, I heard it has a mid story but I'm very interested until now so I'll see it for myself, were our protagonist is a survivor of some kind of ritual to create phantoms(for best understanding think evil monsters) and gained the power to become a wizard through magic rings, what's keeping me interested is how i'm slowly realizing Haruto(protag) isn't helping people and keeping them from dieing bc he's kind, but bc of his survivors guilt, and I want to see how this will change bc it will change for that I'm sure Shunpei(his new friend and ray of sunshine) will change him I bet.

The last post I made was about Rider Gavv, the new Rider released this week! And I'm intrigued already by the world it's building and it's protagonist, for the first episode(I'm patiently waiting for our fan-translators to get to the second episode and for the show runners to release the third in japan next week i think?) We know that our protagonist, Shoma, is at the very least a hybrid of a monster, the Granute, or is a complete one, or was experimented, anyways he has a weird mouth in his stomach but it is diferent than the other Granutes , he escapes his dimension and turns up here, a little boy saves him, feeds him, and when a Granute tries to EAT THE LITTLE BOY ALIVE-, he jumps in, gets beaten up over and over, refuses to keep down, learns and finaly transforms in Rider Gavv.

At the end of the day it is a children's media, so it is wacky and silly, but the topics they revolve around are what keeps me interested, it has heart.

See, in Den-o Ryo is possessed by an Imagin, the monsters of this universe, creatures that came from the future to grant wishes for people in the present, so they can go for the past that those wishes originated from and destroy the curent timeline.

The theme in this Rider is memories, fighting for the future even if it doesn't looks bright for you, accepting change, loss, friendship and becoming stronger and bolder with the right incentive. And the presentation of those themes are really well done for me.

You see there's this character, Sakurai Yuuto, our secondary Rider, he is two characters, we got Sakurai the older man who's integral to the plot, who mysteriously disappeared and the only person who remembers him is our protagonist, and Yuuto, a new Rider a younger man, hot headed, grumpy, but with a heart of gold, the younger version of Sakurai who can transform, but each time he does the memories of himself are erased from people who knew him, and he has to cope with the fact that the future he'll have is this, no-one to remember him, and yet he still fights

And all of that is played straight, there is no punch line, these characters will still be goofy and then have emotional break downs and deep conversations that almost say nothing but conveis everything to move you to tears.

To choose your first Rider can be anything that catches your interest first, be it:

In Wizard there's this scene between our protagonist and the a girl he is friends with, I don't know if it's a sister, a protégé, or just the person he saved first, but. I know that she was part of the same ritual that tried to transform him, she, unlike him, succumbed to the despair and "died", but he saved her and now she's alive only bc she has to consume his magic to keep on living.

She's sat in a lake, water almost up to her torso, and she's saing how she's a monster and how can she move on, and Haruto, instead of calling for her to get out, he moves in, he sits with her, he listens and promises to keep being her hope, and this whole scene is such a metaphor for grief, loss, depression etc, that it made me tear up, it's really simple but effective.

the suit design(what made me chose Wizard as my second season),

a silly gif(one gif of Momotarous that circle around 2022/2023 made me curious to start),

the main esthetic,

the story summary, etc.

I hope this explains it well enough and if you got curious I suggest starting with Gavv and waiting for the new episodes with the fandom or Den-o bc it was my first so... it would be the first that I recomend to people, or just search for a summary for the other and their themes, finishing Wizard I'm between starting OOO, Kiva, W or Ghost. All bc of suit design, so I have no idea what they are about XD

What I know is that Kamen Rider is a younger franchise than Ultraman, and older than Super Sentai (The serie that Power Rangers is based off) all of those are Tokusatsu(live action films/shows with heavy use of practical effects and special effects).

The older seasons are more serious, while the newer one are more colorfull and silly -Rider Gavv literaly gains his power from eating candy man XD- there's always a group of monsters to fight against, the villains are kinda mid but the heroes and deuteragonists are really good, with diferent esthetics and lore each season, many seasons don't have official translations -Den-o is one of those- but the fan-translations are around and done with good faith and plenty of bromance.

I am happy to hear you like relationships with age difference cause most of the time I ran into people who see them as 100% bad. Like sure, age gaps have their problems but doesn't all kinds of relationships have, even ones where there isn't age gap? I don't think age gaps are this black and white thing were all age gaps are bad and enjoying them is immoral etc. Btw, what's the appeal of age gap to you and what are some of your fave age gap romances?

Oh, you know, I quite like stories in which people make mistakes, do questionable things, ruin their own lives and make suffer those around them, so that you can't call them "good people" and you're fully aware of how toxic the situation is -- but you cannot take your eyes off it bc it's just FASCINATING IN ITS TOXICNESS AND TRAGEDY. It may concern stories with age gaps too, but it's not actually the age difference that makes it work for me -- it's probably this fascinating feeling of the fall, and my heart aching for people/characters while being unable to do anything to solve their situation.

There are actually stories in which age difference doesn't create this atmosphere and any real ground for screams about harm and amorality -- then I just like the story for whatever reason. In my summary of fav dynamics I wrote 'stories with age gaps' just because there are many of them in my faves (ahah) but they are all different in mood and themes and characters' circumstances.

In fact I really enjoy the freedom fiction gives - I seriously don't understand how liking any media makes you good or bad person, neither do I get the desire to have every story fit your - of course - very high moral compass/teach you important life lessons while telling you're a good one bc you support the Right Thing. I actually find this approach quite egoistic and harmful.

Also, does everything have to be morally pure and 100% problemless to be worthy of your love? Does liking a villain or a problematic relationship necessarily mean that you want this for yourself or anyone else in your daily life? Do we really need the story to explicitly tell us what is good or bad to understand what we see as good or bad? It's especially funny to me when people spend much time on threads condemning a story while the story itself shows the problems and their outcomes quite well, just doesn't give you morals openly.

Everything I said above goes for age gaps too - if I find it interesting, I do enjoy this and don't see why I should be ashamed of it.

Well the Tobirama characterization poll for Useful (working title) is doing better than I thought, as far as like interacting goes. Ok, so while that does its thing lets talk “Tobirama's Dowry Issue”, I'm once again asking to pick the masses' collective brain to like fact check me and spot the issues I'm not seeing anymore.

Here’s the problem/solutions I'm settling on (well the multiple problems in one mathematical issue, I asked historical reddit but no dice)… it's lengthy, but maybe it'll help someone not writing Tobirama/Madara bc this stuff was a task to figure out.

Yuinou. Like a bride price + food and drink + engagement party but where the family taking whichever spouse is paying for the other family’s investment in the kid. Its almost like a retirement fund for the family whose kid left bc that kid won’t be there to help their elderly parents as much. From what I can tell, it was determined based on how much the that investment was. Now it seems like it's a salary's worth multiplied by the region's exception. (n x salary = yuinou). SO I need Madara's and Tobirama's wages. Easy peasy right? Right?

Ninja Salary. How much everyone makes in Naruto is actually impossible to figure out. Because of the many factors that go into how the economy works in Naruto, you also have the pseudo benefit to have it connected to real world currency. The whole 1 ryo -> 10 yen all well and good but if you know even a passing whiff of an idea of Japan's economic history you begin to see the issues (rant for another day). The only solid thing we have in prices is how pricey the reward for a completed mission is. (Which actually sucks as far as info goes because it implies either an ungodly inflation rate, taxation to the high heavens, and/or ninja are responsible for their own retirement pension.) If we use Itachi's numbers for missions completed that are weighted toward the middle-higher scale and his freakishly well documented amount of time he took to do said missions, dump his D into A we have about 3,300,00 ryo a year/275k a month for a well to do ninja. But what about the warring period?

Wages for our old timey boys. Our best real world example is samurai were paid a nebulous annual 200 koku by their daimyo. If we pretend that the ryo was worth a koku as intended, without the drama of Japan's banking, then he should only be making 16 ryo a month. OBVIOUSLY that's not going to be it in modern standards because the Senju and Uchiha are well off enough to feud. You can't feed and clothe an army on 160 yen a month unless inflation actually hit the Naruto world like a freight train. (Honestly, possible, those wars had to be doing something). So the Ryo had to have lost value before Kishimoto decided the 1 ryo = 10 yen thing or whatever Narutoverse's equivalent of a koku was is vastly different. But if we take the actual worth of a koku in modern terms we can guess the Naruto ryo's worth. To clarify 1 koku should be enough rice to feed a man a year, about 150 kg/330 lbs. If 1 kg of rice is 463 yen then 1 koku would be 69,450 yen aka 6,945 ryo. Make that 200 koku and you get 1,389,000 "ryo" a year, 115,750 a month. It may not be 3m. But! What we get from that is real world historical buying power... which I can use to do some typical writer BS. If a clan of 200 had an active 50 ninja, consumed 200 koku minimum then the income of the clan as a whole would be around 66,561,000 ryo a year from ninja alone. Not counting purchasing metals or cloth or livestock that can be refined by the non shinobi or already processed things and luxuries like spices and medicines. The civilians would make a generous 7k annually (some likely not making anything because they're children and some being too old to work) so all together they'd add 1,225,000 ryo which again would likely go towards food and clothing costs but it would lessen the burden on the shinobi being bread winners (even though they are), it'd keep a certain level of luxury to the main clan's living conditions.

All these factors considered it'd make 200k ryo a month for an heir, maybe 250k for a leader. Well, I can can be completely arbitrary with this since the only examples I have are modern. 3 or 4 wouldn't be a strange number, so let's say the low end is 3 x 200k and the extreme high end would be 4 x 250k. Making a yuinou between these clans a whopping 600k ~ 1m "ryo", this number would work for most of us in the Warring Clan corner of Naruto. Madara/Izuna marrying Hashirama or Tobirama. Hashirama/Tobirama marrying Madara or Izuna, heck, it's a good estimate for how much yuinou was paid for Mito.

But then... what is Tobirama's dowry? Yuinou isn't dowry, it's coming from the Uchiha... and there are manuals for appropriate items to take from your parents home to where you're marrying into (I just can't read or find them so second hand sources are my main). Amount though... Basically I'm going to fudge it after looking at the buying power of the clan and Tobirama himself. Then fudge it more to fit the story I'm concocting. Will anyone care? Probably not. But I spent the last two days down this rabbit hole simply because I needed to know what was within Tobirama's monetary means. The driving point of my yaoi slash fic is the man doing everything he can to be useful.

Favorite Male: Kento & Storious - I can't choose between them, but I did talk extensively about them in my lb tags. In short, Kento is extremely devoted and is willing to do anything for Touma's sake, but is also just a really sweet guy who likes to play characters and takes his responsibilities quite seriously. Storious is a man who lost his hopes of creating something unique so long ago and harbors so much resentment over it that it festers and grows to consume him. It's really interesting to see it all play out and for him to come to realizations he wasn't privy to before.

Favorite Female: Mei - Is the only one who can get everyone into gear when hope seems lost, and is really the sunshine after a storm.

Favorite Pairing: Kento & Touma - They are very much ride or die for each other. There have been so many instances in which they have done things only for the sake of each other and in some instances that has been risking their lives. They are driven by each other's very existence and keep going for each other. It's an incredible bond that I have so many thoughts on that you can read in my lb tags as well, also here's their tag that I use when I miss them. Shout out to Mei & Rintaro too, bc they're right behind Kento & Touma. Mei is the air he breathes and the light of his life that showed him what it was to live.

The devilman crybaby ending got me so badly ryo/satan never got over the pain of abandonment from god and didn't even realize it hurt him until he fell in love and killed/lost the person he loved while on his path for revenge against the one who hurt him, bc his pain from that was mixed in with a survival instinct that he shared with all of the demons who were also abandoned and now attacked by god. Learning to live like them, by hurting others before they hurt you was the only way he felt he could survive, and he sorta internalized that and forgot about it up until the very end.

Kaito's legitimate first reaction to realizing he liked Takuma was "SHIT, WHY?" He lost all sense of how to talk to him like "normal" and could hardly get through a single conversation without getting flustered and panicky. Literally the worst thing to ever happen to him as far as he was concerned at the time.

They hardly act like a couple in public but damn are they clingy in private. Kaito's like a cat that will lie on top of whatever you're reading (or smash something) if Takuma isn't paying attention to him.

100% of PDA when it does happen is a direct result of Takuma being a bully. Kaito will be mad at him for the rest of the day, but that never stops him.

Takuma x Minoru

They're that couple that was dating for a year before they realized they were dating bc falling in love came super naturally and happened really slowly over time.

Rather than any form of actual confession, one day Minoru was just like "Hey, are we like...boyfriends?" and Takuma said yes.

They have matching bracelets.

Takuma x Aoi

Their friends joke about Aoi being out of Takuma's league.

They act the most like an embarrassing high school romcom couple, constantly flustered and unsure of how to approach the other.

Takuma continues to somehow accidentally forget that Aoi is a girl sometimes and ruins moments with very Dumb Boy remarks. Thankfully, she finds this endearing rather than annoying.

Aoi x Saki

Of all couples, they're the one that would take the longest to get together. Between Aoi's general anxiety and Saki's fear of losing friends, Labramon and Floramon practically had to force them to confess.

Saki often has to reassure Aoi that she really does like her and wouldn't change her for the world.

To that end, Saki likes bragging about Aoi. A lot. It's kind of annoying (affectionate).

Aoi x Kaito

They both help each other to be more like the other. Aoi needs to be more assertive, Kaito needs to communicate better, and they're both very patient in helping each other work through their hang ups.

They practice hairstyles on each other sometimes. One time Kaito gave Aoi a cute clip that he originally got for Miu before she started wearing that hat all the time and never had the heart to throw away. She treasures this.

Their friendship got off to a super rocky start, both thinking the other really didn't like them, but once they started getting along, they got really close really fast.

Aoi x Minoru

Take what I said about Takuma being dumb with girls and multiply it by 50.

A real opposites attract couple, Minoru's optimism and Aoi's groundedness balance each other out, and they're both better for it.

Minoru x Ryo

"He's so goddamn annoying." "So you don't like him?" "No wtf I love him." They're the couple that shocked all their friends when they got together because everyone legitimately thought Ryo couldn't stand Minoru.

One time Minoru felt guilty about always teasing his bf so much so he tried to dial it down, but all that accomplished was making Ryo think he did something wrong and get really upset. This mistake was never repeated.

Ryo is the jealous type bc Minoru gets along with too many people too well. He doesn't act on it, just kinda sulks and pouts. Minoru thinks it's cute.

Ryo x Shuuji

Funniest "how I fell in love" story ever. Shuuji's been down bad ever since the day Ryo decked him in the face.

It started as a one-sided crush, with Shuuji really admiring Ryo's strength and dedication to his partner. These feelings caused him to unconsciously seek Ryo out more often and keep trying to get to know him better, at which point Ryo started developing feelings of his own.

Their favorite thing about each other is how easy it is to talk about the ugly sides of themselves without feeling afraid or judged.

Miu x Saki

The more they got to know each other, the more they realized how much they have in common, until they eventually got really excited to spent time together.

All masks are off together, and they make each other feel safer in being their true selves than they ever thought they could be.

One time Saki had a calm and honest talk with Kaito about why he needs to leave Miu alone more often, and it actually helped. If Miu wasn't enamored before, she sure was then.

GX MONTH - Day 5: "Dramatic Rescue"

Okay, so I’ve decided to write some post-canon headcanons for today. Some of them were mentioned already in my fic for Day 1, but here comes the time to expand them more! Also, there are some longish headcanons of Edo Phoenix at the end, simply because I adore him.

TW/CW for mentions of character death and murdering (attempt)

1. After the ending of GX, Judai works for Chancellor Samejima as a duelist-secret agent. He travels around the world and solves cases that could be connected to Duel Monsters or the Spirit World. That’s how he ended up in Venice in BBT.

2. Pharaoh sticks with him and Judai eventually realizes that his cat is probably an immortal being. That must be Daitokuji-sensei’s doing.

3. Judai’s parents still don’t care too much about him, but for his graduation, they give him enough money to maintain an apartment for at least a year.

4. So he rents one in Domino City along with Johan, but he barely spends there more time than 1 or 2 weeks.

5. Speaking of Johan, he’s yet to join any Pro League. He plays for fun and applies to tournaments occasionally, but he tries to live a normal life as well.

6. In my hcs he comes from Sweden and visits his family frequently.

7. Sometimes Judai accompanies him, too.

8. After his graduation from Duel Academia, Sho starts a Cyber Pro League with his brother and he’s better in it than anyone would have expected.

9. With their parents live in a far-away city, they both settle down in Domino City as well, because you know. If you want to be a pro in Duel Monsters, this is still the best place to live in, as a lot of events take place there.

10. When Ryo more or less recovers from his heart condition, he tries to be more independent from his little brother, who took care of him all along the way. He moves to a luxurious apartment above the clouds.

11. After this, Manjoume moves into Sho’s apartment and since they both live the busy life of the pros, they can easily adapt to each other’s lifestyle.

12. We already know that Asuka continues her studies in the Duel College in North America, but in my verse, Fubuki follows her shortly after. He’s still chasing his dreams to become a dueling idol and he’s proving to be quite successful in it.

13. But despite living in America, one of his biggest fans is an Italian. Her name is Sofia de Medici, niece of Cronos-sensei, and because of his ex-teacher having a finger in every pie, he makes sure the two of them meet eventually.

14. Asuka still has feelings for Judai, but since they’ve met like twice since their graduation, it doesn’t bother her that bad anymore. But a year after, when Judai happens to travel to the States, more precisely Asuka's city, she finally confesses him.

15. Judai, on the other hand, doesn’t know how to react to it. He doesn’t want to refuse her, but he already has feelings for Johan and Yubel too, which confuses him just enough. He ends up kissing her and telling her that she will always have a special place in his heart.

16. Okay, it’s time to move on to Edo now, bc he’s the one I think of the most anyway. In my story, he is half Japanese, half American. Born in the United States, where his father – being the Japenese one of his parents – was working for Pegasus, and where he met Edo’s American mother. Unfortunately, she dies during childbirth, and his dad stays in California for the rest of his life, which is six more years.

17. Edo inherited his deep blue eyes from his mother. Btw she was a really, really beautiful woman.

18. After Edo lost his father too, he is placed in an orphanage for a short period of time (this is where he meets with my OC for the first time in my fic), but DD realizes that it would be more useful for him if he would adopt Edo, so he becomes his guardian. They move to Domino City, because DD wants to be a famous duelist and, because we are still in the DM era, the game is more popular there than in the States.

19. Edo is so desperate to find his dad’s murderer that even before he becomes a pro, he starts to investigate by himself. On one occasion, not too long before his first official duel as a pro, he encounters a guy who’s definitely not the one he’s searching for, but he’s still a criminal. With his questions, Edo pisses him off so bad, that the guy stabs him, and Edo almost dies on the very place. This is the only time when DD sincerely concerns his adopted son, so much that he almost confesses to him. But of course, he changes his mind eventually.

20. Unlike other people who have sleeping problems on the night of the full moon, Edo has this issue at new moons’ night. That’s obviously because it was new moon too when he found his father’s dead body. His insomnia on these nights is so bad that he’s not even trying to sleep. Instead, he goes out into the night, often with Ryo accompanying him. Sometimes he stays home (he lives in Domino City as well, on the highest storey of a skyscraper) and plays with video games or just reads a book until dawn.
