⸻ VICTORIA PEDRETTI. SHE/HER / have you ever heard of SOMETHING FAMILIAR by may-a, well, it describes LORELAI BLAKE to a tee! the thirty years old, and OWNER OF THE BLUEBIRD CAFE was spotted browsing through the stalls at portobello road market last sunday, do you know them? would you say SHE is more passive aggressive or more EMPATHETIC instead? anyway, they remind me of a hello to everyone she meets, a free coffee for picking up something she dropped, owning a café but not being a morning person, maybe you’ll bump into them soon!
a bit of a tomboy growing up , but lorelai has always been a girls girl . she comes from a big family with girlier girls and successful athlete brothers . from an early age , lorelai became used to not being seen .
when college was an inevitable privilege shoved down her throat before she knew what she wanted to do or study , lorelai began resenting her parents for it .
even graduating with honors wouldn't be enough to impress her parents . there would be no big woohoo when there were ones to come both before and after her . she leaves college with nothing but a few friends she was sure would fizzle out soon , an ability to stay up late , write cohesive papers about things she would never use again , a years - long wasted relationship filled with infidelity , and a caffeine dependency .
only one of those things would stick with lorelai through her thirties and it was the latter . luckily , not knowing what you want to do usually always means the same thing : business major .
the bluebird café is one of those it takes a village stories . not a lot of people know that the café is named after what lorelai's grandmother used to call her: bluebird .
lorelai sometimes wishes she was one of those people who had a person , or people even , but her people are simply her community and her customers .
if a smile isn't offered , kindness will still be .
her family group chat is on silent .
lorelai used to be a workaholic , but learned that she needs a couple of days in the week to show up as a customer in her own space to really enjoy it .
she's always looking out for people , generosity is not reserved for people she knows or people seemingly deserving of it . ' you never know what someone's going through . '
a golden retriever as far as the eye can see , but alone feels a deep sadness due to all of the emotions she collects from people throughout the day . it exhausts her .
chronic exhaustion diluted by coffee .
prides herself on knowing how to make all different kinds of plant based milks by hand , even if its her employees least favorite part of the job because it only lasted three days at a time before needing a fresh batch to be made .
early bluebird café goers may see lorelai running down to open the café just a few minutes late , still in pajamas . she'll throw a key to the knowing one — the one who gets up a bit earlier these days to take the key when lor tosses it , unlocks the register and rings up the first few people . ' coffee's on me , ' lor will say as always , running back fully dressed and presentable for the day .
the hardest thing for lorelai to confront is , well , confrontation . she practices it all the time , though , never leaving a manger to do the hard parts of her own job .
