THE TOWN OF STARS HOLLOW was on the brink of Autumn, yet the sun was mistaking the New England town for a tropical paradise. Except the sun didn't accept the idea of paradise. Not with the continuous heat waves that had the town meetings cancelled and air conditioners blasting. Not a single long sleeve in sight despite it being the first day of September.
"This feels like a joke. This has to be a joke, right?" Lorelai Gilmore mutters as she walks down the side walk, fanning herself with her hand while trailing around in her heeled boots that felt like personal hell. Her best friend, Sookie, stood to her right wiping the bead of sweat from her forehead. "If it is, this is the cruelest joke ever."
The two regretted their walk from the Dragonfly Inn almost instantly and that thought only deepened as they walked the towns streets. Luke's seemed so far away and they were ready to give up.
"Watch out!" A voice called from the town square, as the two woman turned to see a ball coming in their direction. Lorelai moved out of the way and Sookie quickly followed, the ball nearly taking out their necks. A woman came jogging over and stopped with a quick glance at the two of them, grabbing the ball and tossing it into her arms. "Oh, sorry. That kid is not ready for soccer tryouts.”
Lorelai locked eyes with the woman who stood before her, wearing a pair of sneakers with shorts and a cut-up Metallica t-shirt. She looked like she somehow didn't break a sweat. Despite her athletic efforts. "Where did you come from, the freezer section?" Lorelai asks.
The unknown woman rubs her lips together before motioning over to the kid standing in the grass across the road. "My niece has shitty aim," She says with a quick smile.
"Well we can't all be... a… soccer player," Lorelai mutters as she realizes she doesn't know the name of a singular athletic star.
"Are you new around here?" Sookie asks the girl curiously as she searches her purse for her sunscreen. Y/N only nodded in response, "Just visiting my sister. She owns the boutique down the road."
"Oh yeah, I like going in there. It's like an episode of The Twilight Zone. I never know what's gonna happen in there," Lorelai chuckles as the woman only nods along. "Cool t-shirt, by the way."
"Metallica fan?" Y/N asks as she eyes her for a moment, noticing the pink tank top with a puppy on it. She found it hard to believe that this smiley woman would be fond of Kirk Hammett.
"Great band," Lorelai nods.
"They know how to play a tune or two," Y/N comments with a quick smirk making Lorelai smile. Clearly enjoying their little talk and what Y/N said next. "It's not too often I run into a pretty Metallica fan."
Lorelai smiles sweetly at those words making Sookie have to hide her smile of excitement with her hand. Before making an excuse to leave the two alone. "I'm gonna head to Luke's before I become bacon out here... nice meeting you."
Y/N gives her a nod as she walks past her, leaving Lorelai stood infront of her and only her. "Yeah, I'll meet you there."
She tossed the ball back over towards her niece who went back to kicking it around the gazebo. Lorelai's eyes still on her as she did so. Enjoying her figure in the summer clothing. "Well I should probably get back to her..."
"Yeah," Lorelai gives her a nod as she breaks out of the trance and looks over at the kid. "She's a cute kid."
"She is," Y/N nods as she gives Lorelai another look once her head turned. "Listen... I'm gonna be in town for a while."
"Oh?" The Inn owner says, obviously too awkward to mumble out something witty as per usual. Y/N nodded before licking her lips. "Yeah, I'll see you around?"
"Yep. It's Stars Hollow; we see everyone and everything. Not in a creepy way... but in a like, we're always looking. God, that sounded very opening scene of Halloween," Lorelai smiles awkwardly before chuckling away her nerves.
"Great movie," Y/N comments with a quick smile as she glanced down at the empty coffee cup Lorelai was holding. Questioning why she was on her second cup of hot coffee on a day like this... but noticing the sharpie'd name written on the side. "…Lorelai."
Lorelai furrows her eyebrows with another soft chuckle. "So you're stalker Michael Myers."
"No, I'm just a girl who can read," Y/N motions to the coffee cup with a nice smirk. Lorelai feels a grin grow at that as she looks over at the woman. "I'll see you later, Lorelai."
"You too, Y/N." Lorelai hums as she watches her head toward the street before turning to her with a confused look. Lorelai only grins as she starts walking to the coffee shop, "I can read too."
Y/N thinks for a moment as she crossed the street and walked back over to her niece. Noticing the ball by her feet. 'Property of Y/N Y/L/N'
"Well, damn."

The bus ride down was long, and it only got worse as 1-year-old Caroline woke up from her nap and decided to let everyone know of the inconvenience. Finally after the long months of working and saving up she had enough to move to Stars Hollow, unlike Jess who had a parent to send them and an uncle to stay with, she saved up and made it happen. She wanted Caroline to be around her father, and she wanted to be close to Jess.
And Y/n’s always loved the idea of a small town, a place where you felt safe, a place she would feel safe raising her child in, a place that wasn’t $2,500 a month for a closet. Here she could give her daughter a lot more, here she would have a support system in Jess and Luke. Unlike what her parents would give her.
By this point in the bus route it was only the mother and daughter and a couple strays, she saw the messy haired boy sitting on a park bench close to the bus stop, of course he had his nose in a book. She started packing up Caroline’s stuff, tucking her blanket and toys in the basket of the stroller.
When she got to the bus doors, Jess quickly made his way to help her lift the stroller down the steps, when the stroller was once again on the ground Jess squats down getting face to face with his little girl, “Hey, Care!” “Daddy!” He lifted her up by her armpits. When the little girl was out of her seat and in her dad’s arms, her mom stacked their bags on the seat.
“Hi! You’re so big! Really she is. She’s growing up so fast.” “Well she can walk way more stable now. No more scaring, mommy that you’ll fall if I look away for a second.” She says the last sentence in baby voice while she tickles the girl’s belly to make her giggle and their foreheads to rest on each other’s.
“So you gonna show us around?!” “‘Around’?” They continued their walk around the gazebo area, walking towards Luke’s.
“This is it, that's the record shop, that’s the bookstore, that's Luke’s, and that’s all you need to know.” “Well where’s the bank, I might need to rob it later.” “You’ll find a job. And if you don’t then work at Luke’s, he could do with the time off then maybe he’d get off everyone’s backs.” “He’s probably stressed with you always causing trouble.” “Me? Trouble? Nooo, I’m a peach.”
-
Jess had the baby today since Y/n was off to find a job, her first stop was the most promising. Luke let her know that a friend of his needed extra staff at their Inn for an event that was coming up, someone who could be an assistant of sorts. So after wearing her most capable looking top, and best fitting jeans. She kissed Caroline’s check and yelled goodbye to Luke and Jess as she began her walk.
When she walked inside she saw a man at the front desk on the phone. Waiting to ask for directions, she hung around the man’s desk, busying herself with some pamphlet. She couldn't help but listen to the man’s angry English in his french accent.
Suddenly he hung up the phone and got back to writing whatever he was writing, without looking up and with an annoyed tone said, “Yes?” “I was looking for Lorelei, I’m here for-” “The assistant job, yes.. Follow me.” He walked quickly to wherever it was they were going, mumbling along the way, “Of course, an assistant. Just what we need around here. Not like I don’t already do most of the work around here.”
He opened the door for them, it ended up being the kitchen they were now in. A tall woman holding a to-go coffee cup that said ‘Luke’s’ on it and a shorter woman in an apron fighting with a scruffy man about vegetables, which look to be parsnips.
“The mini-you is here.” “One little comment, Micheal. I’m not saying you’re incapable. I just want more help with organising events so I focus on planning!” “Whatever.” Turning on his heels, Micheal walked out the doors making his way back to his desk.
“So you’ve met Micheal! Sorry, we usually don’t let him around the new people but we're a little short-staffed. Let’s head to the dining room.”
They sat down at a table in the dining room, Lorelei asked all the important questions, and Y/n was perfect, now she was just asking the things she’ll tell Sookie later when the woman asks about the new hire.
Taking a sip of her sixth coffee this morning Lorelei asked, “So, are you new to town? I haven’t seen you around before.” The girl was stirring milk into her second coffee as she responded, “Yeah, I am. I just moved here with my um- my daughter, closer to her dad so…”
Since it was of course the time most adults got horrified, thought she was a bad kid, and though she didn’t get that vibe from Lorelei, it was at least bound to shock her. “You’re daughter? How old are you? Wait- I know, it’s on your resume. I mean- I’m, deja vu y’know? Abba did say ‘the history books on the shelf are always repeating themselves’.”
She must have seen the confused look on the young girl and explained, “I had my daughter when I was sixteen.. And came here to get a job, so just getting major deja vu. Well then, since I know what you’re going through, I won’t put you through the short mental torture of waiting for a call I was gonna do and just tell you you got the job.” “Oh, thank you! I really need this, I can’t thank you enough.” “Just change her name to Lorelei and we’ll call it even.” “deal.” Those two would get along great, much to Luke’s misfortune.
-
Y/n sat at the counter with Caroline in front of her sitting on the counter while she played with her mother’s hair. Jess was filling up cups of coffee and serving customers while he listened to Y/n’s words.
“So until you go back to school, you’ll have Caroline during the day here and when I’m done work I’ll take her.” “No, you’ll never have a break. After work you go to your house, relax then grab her after dinner.”
Jess may have this ‘I only care about myself’ attitude but that never included Caroline and Y/n, he’d kill for either of them at any given moment. He always put them first. If thought Y/n needed a break, she was getting a break whether she wanted it or not.
Just as the girl was going to thank him she was interrupted by another girl around their age coming to sit down at the counter, two over from her.
“I have the book you lent me.” She said, unknowingly interrupting the conversation since Jess was facing the coffee machine to make a new batch when she sat down. “Oh, thanks.” He muttered, notably not turning to face her.
On the inside Jess felt guilty. Why did he feel guilty? He didn’t do anything, he and Y/n weren’t together, nevermind the fact that all he did was lend Rory a book. As friends. Because they’re friends. But nonetheless it almost felt like cheating. Jess and Y/n may not be together officially but that didn’t mean that they both didn’t love each other. And not just because they were the parents to a beautiful little girl. Jess had always wanted more, he’d let the girl know that more than a handful of times, and she let him know it wasn’t unrequited, yet something always came between them.
You’d think having a baby together would bring them closer, and in some ways it did; they trusted each other more. But they also fought more and being the dumb teenagers they were, they didn’t have the emotional ability to move past that and build the relationship they both wanted. And then when they felt they were ready to, Jess was sent to live with his uncle. Just another fork in the road. But now they were living in the same town and had a good system, and people to support them. It was the perfect time, everything was going right, they could feel all the feelings that never really left resurfacing.
“Okay, I have to get to work. You’ve got her?” “Yeah.” “Bye, baby, I love you. I’ll see you in a little bit, but you get to spend all day with daddy.” “Bye-bye, mommy!”
She said bye to Jess after she walked around the counter and handed him Caroline, muttering a small ‘go see, daddy’ that Rory most definitely heard.
When the door finally chimed shut Rory shot up to follow Jess to the table he was now setting Caroline up at. She watched his gentle movements as he readjusts her shirt and places crayons and paper in front of her, which she got right into scriballing away.
“She’s yours?” “Yeah.” “.. So that girl is your girlfri-" "I’ve got work to do.”
-
The warm atmosphere of the dinner is a stark contrast to the cold winter air. Noticing Jess and Caroline are nowhere to be seen she assumes they were upstairs and makes her way up the stairs. Half-way up the flight of stairs she could hear her little girl’s loud giggles. She quietly opens the door to see Jess holding Caroline above his head, as if she was flying.
When she first got pregnant everyone told her Jess wouldn’t be a good dad, that she can’t rely on him for anything. God were they wrong. She doesn’t think it’s possible for her baby to have a better person as a dad. She sadly doesn’t get to watch the scene for much longer as she’s spotted by little Caroline.
“Mommy! I see daddy ‘morrow?” “Yes, you get to be with daddy all day tomorrow too.” “Yay!”
As the conversation between them goes on, Jess lets his little girl plant her feet back on the ground and starts collecting some things she’ll need during the night before she comes back here tomorrow, he then starts getting Caroline’s shoes on her feet. While Y/n sits on the couch next to their little girl.
“So who was that girl this morning?” “Who?”
Jess always did this, it was a tell tale sign that he didn’t want to talk about it, but that’s never stopped Y/n before. “You know who.” Of course having to be difficult, Jess gives her a fake confused look, as if he’s never met another girl in his life.
“The one returning your book.” “Oh, that girl.” “Yeah, that girl.” “She’s nobody.” “So you just lend books to ‘nobody’s now?” “Care, where’s Mr.Wiggle?” The girl lets out a gasp and reaches out for Jess to help her off the couch, when he does she runs into the closet where she previously hid while playing hide and seek a couple hours earlier.
“What? Don’t want Care to hear about her new step-mom?” “Don’t call her that.” “What? Care? Only you can call her that?” “No, don’t call Rory Care’s ‘step-mom’.” “Rory! I get her name!”
Jess was a quiet guy, but not this quiet, especially not with Y/n. He didn’t want to talk about Rory, maybe because it was weird talking about another girl with your baby momma. And yes it was weird for Y/n too, but for a completely different reason, she assumes. She liked Jess, and has since before she even knew about Caroline.
“C’mon, Jess, it’s me. I want you to be happy.” Sure Rory made him happy, but only because she was the only friend he had here, it wasn’t the way Y/n made him happy. Before he could deny for words again Caroline came back running into the room with her stuffie in her hands. Having already said her goodbyes, she opened the door and walked out.
“Caroline, wait hun! I think you should go for it Jess.”
She walked out the door, closing it behind her, leaving Jess to stare at where she disappeared. He decided to take her advice, just maybe not the way she meant it
-
Y/n helped Caroline pack more snow onto their snowman. Caroline wanted to do it after she heard Luke complaining about town events again, he stopped complaining when he saw how excited the girl was. They had Mr.Wiggles off the side learning against the tree, using him as a reference.
“Mommy, no. Mr.Wiggles has more hair.”
Caroline was getting very comfortable ordering her mother around, but in this instance Y/n let it slide, poking more sticks on the top of the snowman’s head to mimic Mr.Wiggle’s spiky hair.
“That’s good!”
Lorelei and Rory were just one snowman down, both told Caroline they thought she would win and encouraged her before she even started. Since they were so close, they could hear the scene that had just played out.
“Tough age, wait till you get to the terrible twos. ‘No’ is all you’ll hear.” Lorelei said, kindly as her and her own daughter walked past them. Y/n let out a laugh at the comment before she asks, “You guys done already?” “No, but after Michelangelo over there busted out the power buffer, and when Caroline busts out her cuteness, what chance do we have?” “I see your point.” “So off to Luke’s we go.” “We’ll see you there in a bit.”
-
Y/n was standing talking to one of the decorators when she saw Lorelei and Sookie step out of the kitchen, quickly finishing her directions she wrote down a note on her clipboard then made her way to meet them at the entrance of the dining room.
When Sookie sees her, she asks, “What’re we looking at today?” Sookie was really fun to work with, like Lorelei she was very chill as a boss, but Sookie was also so kind and always took it upon herself to make sure Y/n has eaten and that her and Caroline are taken care of. She could tell the woman was going to make an amazing mother.
“This is last on the list.” She replied, after she took a quick glance at her clipboard, then continued, “We’ve got trumpets, the madrigal singers-” “Sorry to interrupt, but I’m not playing squire of Bracebridge.”
Sookie and Lorelei must have finally told Jackson to play the squire, they told her earlier in the week that they were playing to ask at the last moments so he had to. It was a flawless plan, especially when Jackson can’t say no to Sookie.
She saw that Lorelei and Sookie were just ignoring him, so she played along and continued down her list, “All the servers are lined up. This is just for the recorder players and harpists.” She stopped at the recorder players and let Lorelei talk to them, “Hi. Lay some on us, guys.”
The two recorder players played the soft tube they were going to come accustomed to in the next few days. The three of them shared positive looks and when their playing came to an end, Sookie said, “Hey, you cats really know how to blow those things.” Lorelei continued Sookie’s comment by saying, “You’ve got the gig. Y/n here will call you later with the details. Thanks.”
Recorder players started packing their things, Jackson started again on the fact that he wouldn’t play the squire, and the three women continued to ignore him.
“When do the quests arrive?” “Thursday at four on their own jet.” “After buying out the whole inn.”
“Must be nice to have money.” Y/n added, checking off and writing down more notes on her clipboard.
“You know what struck me today?” “-Was it the fact that I am not the squire?-""We’re crazy for doing this.” “We’re beyond crazy.” It did feel crazy, Lorelei told her they’d never done a function this big before and that’s the reason they hired more help. Like her, but also that they were planning to do a lot more big things like this, more weddings, and such.
“We’re ‘Anne Heche speaking her secret language to god and looking for the spaceship in Fresno’ kinda crazy.” “Oquinis no-goodo noto.” Sookie said, causing Y/n add, “Il ecnatra dos guidan.”
Their nonsense was once again interrupted by Jackson, “And spring this on me at the last minute too. I mean, that’s just manipulative.” Suddenly a cook pops his head out of the kitchen, saying calmly, “Sookie- fire!”
Sookie rolled her eyes softly, this happened far too often, before saying, “I gotta get back in the kitchen. You guys handle the harps?” Both women nodded and replied in unison, “You got it.”
“Alright. I’ll do it. I’ll play squire Bracebridge if that’s what you want.” Everyone knew he would cave eventually. Sookie patted his arm and said a quick, “Thanks, sweetie.” before walking back into the kitchen to hopefully deal with the fire. “As long as it’s not just because I fit the costume.” Jackson looked back at Lorelei and Y/n, Lorelei had a grin on her face while Y/n wore a tight-lipped smile. “It’s because I fit the costume, isn’t it?” He followed after Sookie.
Lorelei put her arm around Y/n and led them to the harpist, “Go ahead.” The harpist played the same tune as the two recorder players. But just as the woman started, Lorelei got a call. She patted Y/n’s arm, “I have to take this, you handle the harpist.”
The girl tried to stay calm, nodding her head and going back to listening to the music. Lorelei trusted her, yes it wasn’t a big job by any means, but still it was a step into a bigger role down the line.
-
The next day, Sookie and Y/n had all the waiters/performers in the dining room going over what their job was. And teaching them the old English words to use for things.
Sookie was just telling Rune that he couldn’t just talk like an old man whe Lorelei came in with a disappointed look on her face, and let them know the dinner was off.
The three women, as well as Rory and Caroline were now sitting at a table at Luke’s, Caroline was happily eating her pancakes, plain just as she liked and completely unaware of the collective disappointment of the group.
Lorelei has really welcomed Y/n into her life. She may not be Jess’s biggest fan, but she would always help another teen mom out. Especially since she sees so much of herself in Y/n. She’s grown to really love the girl in the short time they’ve known each other. And aftering hearing Y/n didn’t have her family in her life she was more than happy to help and maybe become that family for her one day. Just like Mia did for her.
“I’ve got 30 pounds of aged beef, trays and trays of trout, mountains of prune tarts. I diced pumpkins until my hands turned orange. I’ve got pumpkin hands!” Sookie showed the table her hands, it apparently caught Caroline’s attention since she grabbed Sookie’s right hand and held it in her left while she continued eating. Sookie lets her hand rest in the little girl’s while she freaks out more and asks Lorelei, “How can you stay so calm?” “There’s nothing we can do about it.”
Rory was just as upset, mostly because she knew how hard her mother worked on the planning, “I can’t believe they got snowed in.” Y/n hasn’t told Jess, but she’s become pretty close to Rory, the girl sometimes comes to the Inn and helps around and Rory’s become kinda her only friend, that was until Rory invited her to the record store with Lane. After that day she had two friends.
After knowing Rory more, she realised how much she and Jess have in common, and even though Rory has a boyfriend she can tell there’s an attraction to Jess she’s trying so hard to hide.
Y/n zoned out for a moment, looking outside, she was upset that the first event she helped organise wouldn’t even happen. She was broken from her stare out the window from Caroline jumping in place while sitting on her mom’s lap, the cause of which was Luke coming to the table.
“You girls want anything besides coffee?” He asked, adding on with a pat on the girl’s head, “Or pancakes?” “Hey, what about Luke?” “What about him?” “He eats, and Jess eats. Doesn’t Jess eat?” Sookie directs the question at Y/n, before the girl could say anything Luke cuts her off, “What’s she doing?” “I think she’s inviting you for dinner.”
Getting distracted while trying to convince Luke to come to dinner, the four decide to still put on the dinner for the town. Like an out of control slumber-party.
-
The dinner was going great, the secret amazing part of inviting the town was that Y/n and Caroline could actually meet everyone. Miss. Patty and Babette loved Y/n and Caroline (mostly Caroline), Caroline loved Kirk, and everyone loved that Caroline could do whatever she wanted and Talor wouldn’t say anything. And Y/n got to meet Paris after all the stories she’s heard.
Caroline and Y/n were in line for the horse drawn carriage rides, when Caroline saw her favourite person, Lane. “Laney! I ride with you!” Lane, before agreeing, made eye contact with Y/n to make sure it was okay. Y/n gave them the go ahead and helped Caroline get settled. After their carriage left she made her way to the next one. Telling the driver it’s just her.
It was nice to get a break from everything. It was quiet and peaceful. Well that was until Jess ran up and hopped on the carriage next to her. Without a word he put the blanket that was over the girl’s legs on his too.
“I thought you and Care were going together.” “She’s one ahead, with Lane.” “Ahhh. Well it’s two to a sleigh no more, no less. So you were breaking the rules, you're welcome for saving you.” “You could have hurt yourself.” “Aw, you care about me.” “You are my baby's father.”
She wished she just agreed with him. She didn’t just care for him because he was Caroline’s dad, and she doesn’t think she says it enough. But then again, maybe it would mess things up if she admitted that. But that decision was made for her.
“I’m touched.” “Jess. I don’t mean it like that. I care about you, Caroline or not.”
Trying to change the topic to something she thought was more lighthearted, she says, “So, how are things with Rory?” “There are no things with Rory.” “C’mon, Jess, we can talk about this stuff-” “Why are you so insistent that I date Rory?”
She wasn’t expecting that outburst. Not from Jess. He rarely ever yelled at her, and when he did it was always misplaced anger, never actually angry at her. This time it was her, it was what she said.
“I just want you to be happy-” “C’mon, Y/n. Be serious.” “I am. I want-” “If you want me to be happy so bad, why won’t you give me a chance?!”
He turned his face to her, looking right into her eyes, she could see the hurt in his. Did she put it there?
“What’re you-” “Since we found out about Caroline, I’ve tried and tried to help you realise that I love you. And not how you mean ‘I love you’. I don’t love and care for you because we have a family and I have to. I love you, because I want to. I want to be with you. And I know it will be hard, but I’ll do the work.”
If she had more social awareness at the pent she would have hated that the coachman heard all of that. But after what Jess said, the look in his eyes; that was so full of love. She felt like it was just them two in the world. No, that it was just their little family in the whole world. He and Caroline were all she would ever need.
“I love you too, Jess. I have for so long, long before Caroline, but I thought you wouldn’t want to be tied down to me, especially after I had Caroline, that any sign I thought you gave me was all in my head.” “It’s not.”
He brought her in closer to him, an arm around her shoulders and when her arms wrapped around his waist he left a kiss on the crown of her head. The small kiss brought her eyes up to him, which led to their first real kiss in one year and nine months.
His lips were softer than she remembered, but they still fit into hers as if they never left.
She broke away from their reuniting kiss to place her head in the crook of his neck, wanting nothing more than to be close to him.
“My mom didn’t want me to come home.” She took her head out of his neck to look at him fully. They were always that person for each other, the one you can tell your problem to and they knew when to help and when listening was enough. Right now, she knew listening was enough.
“I’m sorry, Jess.” “It’s fine. Just sucks.” “I know. Well, Care and I will always want you to come home.” After her words, he brought her closer than before. She was always just what he needed.
Wanting to change the subject, Jess nodded his head to the snowman Y/n and Caroline built. “It’s good.” “What?” “Your snowman, well Caroline’s snowman I'm sure she’d want me to say.” “You know which one’s ours?” “Definitely shows her personality… It kinda looks like Mr.Wiggles.” “That’s what we were going for. But everyone thinks the one on the end is going to win.” “Really? It’s so overdone.” “I agree.” “You and Care’s should win.” “Agree again.”
-
The dinner was filled with Jess and Luke confused at what exactly was in the food, Jess and Y/n trying their best to keep Caroline sat which about half an hour in they gave up and just let her walk around the lobby, as well as saying hello and talking to everyone at the table. Having an interesting conversation with Mrs.Kim about grace, ‘helping’ Kirk by sitting on his rolling food cart, and even talking with Paris for a while.
Overall it was a great night. Even better when Jess, Y/n, and Caroline got to their shared room, putting Caroline asleep together for the first time in a while. And falling to sleep in the same bed together, holding each other, listening to each other’s breaths, as well as Caroline’s. Everything was just how they both always secretly wanted. And now get to have openly and freely.
In the morning Y/n got up early since she was technically working, and she still was when Luke, Jess, and Caroline left to open the diner for the day. It was around noon when Y/n finally left, walking to Luke’s to spend the day with her two favourite people. Which was when she saw Michelangelo’s snowman fallen to a large pile of snow on the ground.
She didn’t even have to think for a second to know that Jess did it. Sometimes he did the weirdest things to show his love.
The bell rang as she pushed open the door, she sat down next to Caroline, saying ‘good morning’ and getting one back before she made her way to the counter.
“I saw what you did.” “What’d I do?” “Caroline will be happy she won.” “Anything if my girl’s win.”

you, rory, and lorelai stumbled into luke’s very loudly. few heads turned despite this being the norm every morning. the ruckus you all caused wasn't ignored, just accepted. “ow, mom, you stepped on my foot!” rory whined. “ooh sorry” lorelai winced.
“go order, n/n.” lorelai shoved. you stuck out your tongue as the girls sat down. you saw jess was behind the register this morning instead of luke. he was reading (obviously) and looked up once he heard you guys enter.
“ooh, ror, look at that boy at the register. doesn’t he look divine?” you swooned in a light british accent. rory nodded, chuckling. “go talk to him penelope, darling. perhaps he’s interested in you.” lorelai mimicked your accent and threw a napkin at you.
you giggled and strutted to the register where jess was smirking slightly while still reading his book. you turned your head to the side and raised a brow, waiting for him to acknowledge you. he looked up and closed his book.
“what can i get for you?” he asked, grabbing his notepad. you leaned against the counter. “i’ll need a menu sweetheart, i’m new at this joint.” you responded, pretending to look at your nails boredly. he chuckled briefly and rolled his eyes before handing you a menu.
after looking for a split second, you began to order. “i’ll have the cheese fries, but hold the cheese please.” you smiled sweetly. “so just fries.” jess said, more a statement rather than a question. “i suppose so.” you rolled your eyes dramatically. jess grinned at your antics. “anything else?”
“oh no darling, i’m on a diet. i’ve got to stay pretty for the gentlemen. you never know when the one will show up.” you winked. he leaned closer to you. “i’m sure ‘the one’ wouldn’t mind what was on your palette.” he kissed your cheek and handed the notepad to caesar.
he turned back to you. “how’s your day been penelope?” he genuinely questioned. “not bad so far. of all the men i’ve seen before, and believe me i’ve seen a lot, i think you are the prettiest.” you complimented. watching jess get all flustered and start squirming was something you loved to watch.
“come over when school’s over?” he asked, holding your hand and playing with your fingers. you shrugged. “i suppose i could clear my schedule.” he nodded, giving you a kiss to which you happily returned.
“now i sashay away.” you giggled, sashaying to your family as jess watched with hearts in his eyes. lorelai covered her mouth, pretending to be curious.
“does he like you?”
“hmph, i think so. i believe he’s just a little shy.”

secret - luke danes
Tumblr media
luke danes x fem!reader
summary: lorelai oversteps and luke reveals your relationship
warnings: secret relationship, reader is younger than luke but no specific age is given, tiny bit of angst perhaps?
word count: 1.4k
“coffee?” luke asked, and you pushed your mug towards him with a smile.
“thanks.”
you were sitting at a table at luke’s diner when you overheard lorelai and rory talking about him,
the man oblivious as he went to fetch their order.
“do you think he’s dated anyone since rachel? lorelai said to her daughter in a hushed voice.
“I don’t know,” rory shrugged. “where would he meet anyone? he’s either here or in his apartment.”
“maybe he has a secret life. maybe he’s got a little chippy stowed away in mount pilot,” lorelai suggested, and rory laughed through her nose. “well we’ll know eventually.”
“i think he’s a bachelor for life.”
“and i think there’s someone for everyone,” the younger gilmore disagreed, before they began talking about music.
you tuned out the rest of their conversation, as it no longer pertained to your boyfriend. you and luke had been dating for about three months, and by some miracle had managed to keep it a secret; not an easy task in stars hollow. you couldn’t change the channel on the television in this town without someone finding out about it.
you were keeping the relationship hidden while it was new, since you were new to town and you were also a bit younger than luke. you had only moved here a little under six months ago; you didn’t need the added attention of a relationship while you were still settling into town, and luke respected that.
once the gilmore girls left, you went over to the counter to get another coffee to go, and luke smiled as he turned around and noticed it was you.
“hey, another coffee?” he asked.
“to go please,” you nodded, and he handed it to you, exchanging it for the mug you’d had. “call me later?” you whispered, though the diner was pretty empty, and he nodded, before you walked out of the store.
it was a few days later, and you were walking into the diner to grab a bite to eat. you put your headphones on but didn’t turn on your walkman so you could still hear as you walked inside and sat in the corner, luke holding up a finger to let you know he would be with you in a minute. you heard the door open and watched lorelai walk in and sit at the counter across from luke. you felt guilty for eavesdropping, but soon realized what the conversation was about and decided it did (slightly) pertain to you.
“hey, good party yesterday,” he greeted her, and you remembered him mentioning last night that he’d gone to help her fix something at a party her club was hosting.
“yeah, not bad”, she agreed with a smile.
“i like the new look it was very high class substitute teacher.”
“exactly what i was going for.”
“coffee?” he asked.
“oh, to go,” she answered, and luke switched the mug he’d placed in front of her for a paper cup. “hey luke, i feel a little weird even mentioning this to you-“ she began.
“what?”
“well yesterday i saw you talking to ava you know she’s in my booster club?”
“yeah i know who she is,” he replied, and you wondered what she was getting at.
“so anyhow, i saw you guys talking alone and it seemed kind of private and she mentioned earlier that you didn’t make her you know - gag,” she emphasized the word before continuing. “so I just figured you guys were making some sort of plans to hang out and see the thing is i just think it would be a little weird if you started dating a chilton mom.” you sat dumbfounded on the other side of the diner and luke raised his eyebrows slightly as she rambled on. “i know i have no right to say anything to you, but it’s just if you did date her - well i’m in the booster club with her which means i’ll hear things and i don’t know it’s just- i’d like to keep that chilton life separate from my stars hollow life so if there’s anyway that you could not date her, that would be really great,” she finished with a smile and a tap of her fingers on the counter top.
you sat in disbelief in your seat, still not daring to look their way as you wondered if it might have been better to not listen to the conversation after all.
“boy i tell you, you’ve got nerve,” he replied, sounding less than impressed with her speech.
“okay, uh w-“ she stuttered. “well i know this is your private business-“
“it is my private business.”
“you don’t see any validity to my side at all?” she asked.
“i am a grown man. you cannot tell me who to date to date,” he insisted.
“i’m not telling you who to date, i’m telling you who not to date,” she argued.
“you can’t tell me that either!”
“look-“ she began but he interrupted her.
“i will date who i like and if that screws with your plans, then i’m sorry - and if you don’t wanna hear things then don’t listen.”
“but-“
“if you don’t like it, you can just deal with it!” he said, and you weren’t sure you had ever heard him use that tone before.
“okay! i’ll just deal with it!,” she replied.
“good.”
“i just thought that if something was going to affect our friendship in some way that you might care about that because if the situation was reversed then i would care about that but that’s me! so go ahead date her!” she said, standing up, obviously offended. “marry her! make her mrs.backwards baseball cap - live happily ever after. see if i care!” lorelai flapped her arm around as she began walking out of the diner. “and by the way, I wasn’t asking her out,” luke informed her. “i was giving her directions for the quickest way back to hartford. it was very romantic. i said you take a right at deerfield and you catch the I-5 and you take it south. oh man, hot stuff!” he explained.
“that is so typical of you!”
“what?” he said, and you could recognize by his voice that he was rolling his eyes.
“that is not the quickest way back to hartford. everybody knows that you take main to cherry to linwood and then grab the 11. everybody knows that luke - everybody apparently but you!” she said, and her voice wavered as if she was getting emotional.
“and just for the record, not that it’s any of your business at all, i’m seeing someone. don’t worry she’s not one of the snobs in your chilton club so you won’t have to hear about it!”
you were glad you didn’t have a coffee yet or you probably would spat it out in surprise, and you wished more than anything that you had been able to see the look or lorelais face. you had nothing against her, but you did agree she had severely overstepped here.
“well that’s great! i’m so happy for you!” she spat angrily, and stormed out of the diner. thankfully there hadn’t been many people inside eating to hear the conversation, or luke’s confession of having a girlfriend. you decided you weren’t as concerned with people finding out anymore. you were happy with luke and that’s what was most important.
“hey,” luke greeted quietly as he appeared next to your table with a mug and coffee pot.
“hey,” you smiled up at him.
“how much did you hear?” he asked sheepishly, pouring you drink.
“all of it,” you admitted. “i’m sorry.”
“you don’t have to apologize. i’m sorry i told her without asking i just-“
“hey,” you put your hand on his softly. “i’m not mad. i guess the cats kinda out of the bag though.”
“no one knows it’s you,” he pointed out.
“it’s a small town - how long do you think it’ll take them to figure it out?” you laughed.
“yeah i guess so.”
“so, this chilton mom-“ you teased.
“don’t start,” he rolled his eyes, but smiled. “you’re really okay with people knowing about us?” he asked, and you nodded.
“yeah, i am,” you decided. “are you?”
“yeah, i guess i am,” he agreed, and you smiled.
“good.”
“good,” you beamed, and luke walked back behind the counter. you thought he had gone back to work, but he returned with another mug of coffee and sat down across from you.
“mind if i join you?” he teased, and you were surprised.
“are you…taking a break?”
“yeah,” he agreed.
“you? luke danes? are taking a break-“
“shut up before i change my mind?” he said playfully and you smiled, sipping your coffee.
“deal.”

You weren’t sure which was worse - the dinner your mother was hosting, or the idea that you now had to put up with a whole night of Luke’s strange nephew, whom you’d never met before.
Of course, you loved your family to pieces, and you loved Sookie and Jackson; hell, sometimes you looked at Luke as more of a father than you did your actual dad, but having everyone together for what you knew would be at least a three course meal, under one roof, with Luke’s mysterious nephew from New York, just felt draining.
So, to preserve what little social battery you had left for the day, you decided to spend the time between school and dinner in your room upstairs with a good book and a cd playing from the player that sat on your dresser at a low volume. You had to change the cd twice, first from one of your mothers Bangles cds to a Smiths one, but just as you were enjoying the beginning of David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust album (and nearly finishing up your book), did you hear the clanging of pots and pans from downstairs, as well as Sookie and Jackson’s lighthearted bickering.
You managed to bury yourself back into your book, one leg crossed loosely over the other outstretched one as you half-sat, half-laid on your bed, being mindful of your shoes so as to not get any dirt on your covers.
From downstairs, Jess was wandering around the Gilmore home as everyone else did whatever they were doing in the kitchen, internally monologuing and half-mocking their decor. He’d met Rory already, and she seemed like a nice enough girl. Enjoyed books. But he had yet to meet the third and final Gilmore girl, who so far had only been mentioned. However, as Jess scanned the various photographs on the mantle, he could hear the faint guitar of Suffragette City emanating from somewhere upstairs.
After peeking down the hallway to make sure no one was watching, Jess smirked and snuck up the stairs, into what was surely off-limits territory for someone like him. Still, he took the stairs two at a time and stealthily, managing to avoid all the places that would creak in a house like this one, despite never stepping foot inside beforehand. He followed the music down the hall, past some more paintings and pictures, to another bedroom. The door was open, and he was able to take a look inside. Posters covered most of the wall, leaving little space to show off the paint beneath them. Bookshelves occupied the wall right beside the door, and similarly to Rory’s room, they looked stuffed to the brim with books.
On the bed, facing him, was the person he assumed to be the final Gilmore girl - Rory’s twin sister. He watched intently, scanning every feature of your focused face as you scanned the final pages of the book you were reading. How your brow furrowed, eyes locked on the ink before you. The way the foot that hung off the edge of the bed was moving to the beat of the song.
Once Jess had decided that he’d been watching you long enough to constitute stalking, and how that was probably extremely creepy, he nudged the door open with a creak and stepped inside, clearing his throat and pulling his lips into a slight smirk. “Hey there, Ziggy.”
At first, you thought that your mother was finally calling you down to dinner, until you heard the unusually male - and entirely unfamiliar - voice come from the body in your doorway. Tucking a receipt into your book to mark your place, you glared over at the boy standing in your room with his hands behind his back, smugness rolling off of him in waves as he admired your room.
“You’re Jess, aren’t you.” Your flat tone seemed to amuse him.
“How nice, you already know my name. I’m flattered.”
You watched him as he walked around your room, over to the window where your desk was, trying to figure him out as he peeled back your curtains. “It’s impossible to not know someone’s name in this town, even someone who’s only been here for 28 hours.”
He chuckled. “Nice one, Ziggy. Now tell me, why aren’t you downstairs with the rest of the freakshow? I mean, they are your family, after all, aren’t they?”
You pretended to smile, but it came out as more of a grimace. “Sorry to break it to you, Mariano, but I’ve been banned from the freakshow. Apparently having apathy toward any sort of Gilmore humour is forbidden, and they’ve locked me away forever.”
“Aw, so sorry to hear that.” Jess mocked, placing a hand over his heart with an exaggerated pout. “I can’t believe they shunned such a ray of sunshine.” He smirked at your rolled eyes. “No, really, you must be a real treat at parties.”
“Quit it, Mariano. Is there a reason you came up here or did you just want to cause enough trouble to get kicked out of our beloved Stars Hollow? Because if so, you came to the right girl.”
Jess’ brow quirked. “Really?”
“Yeah,” you heaved a dramatic sigh, slipping off your bed to walk over to Jess. “But it’s like… 9pm on a Wednesday. In Stars Hollow. Even if I wanted to cause trouble, and I don’t, because I did enough of that at school today, there’s nothing to do. Everyone’s asleep, and I’m pretty sure our 24-hour mini-mart closed like, half an hour ago.”
Now it was Jess’ turn to roll his eyes. “Your sister said that already. Is there seriously nothing to do here?”
“Nope.” You shrugged, just as a thought came to mind. “Well… there is one thing…” Jess’ eyebrows raised at the prospect of having something fun to do, and you couldn’t help but laugh. “It’s not anything revolutionary, you know.”
“Still, give me something, anything, to get us out of here, Ziggy. I’m begging you. I’m being suffocated by the stale air of suburban life.”
You nodded, tapping your fingers on your thigh. “Fine, I’ll tell you. But you gotta do one thing for me.”
“What is it? I’ll do anything, I swear.”
“Stop calling me Ziggy.” You said. “It’s a stupid nickname, and although I admire the fact that you listen to David Bowie enough to come up with a nickname like that one, I hate it. Call me by my actual name.”
“Well I would, if I knew it.”
“My mother never told you my name?” You asked with a raised brow. “She never shuts up about me and Rory, I’m surprised you never caught it.”
“Apparently, I didn’t. It seems she likes talking about Rory more.” Jess shrugged. “At least, around me she does.” He barely caught the slight sag of your shoulders, the drop in your demeanour, before you picked it back up and smiled.
“Well, Jess. I’m Y/n. Y/n Gilmore.” After a pause, you looked around and snagged a sweater from the chair in the corner of your room. “Now, if you’ll follow me, let’s go have as much fun as we’re able to in Stars Hollow at night.”
Jess waited impatiently behind you as you unlatched the window by your desk and pushed it up, slipping through and holding it open for him. As he clamoured out, you grabbed the rock underneath the window and placed it on the windowsill, lowering the window so you’d still be able to get back in later.
You could still hear the tail end of the album playing as Jess looked around.
“How are we supposed to get down?”
“The trellis, obviously.” You said, carefully making your way across the porch’s roof to the trellis right next to the kitchen window. “Just don’t make much noise, this thing is right next to the kitchen’s window and if we get caught we’re screwed. Follow my lead, and run when you hit the ground, got it?”
“Got it.”
Scaling down the trellis was basically second nature to you, but you made sure to look up every once in a while to make sure Jess was doing okay. He seemed to be, which comforted you somehow. You waited at the bottom for him, making sure to stay out of view of the window to the kitchen and the edge of the porch, which were on either side of the trellis, and could possibly get both you and Jess grounded.
When he landed, he looked at you, and a dish clattered in the kitchen. You both snapped to the window, then back to each other. On instinct, you took his hand and ran toward the woods.
“Where the hell are we going?!” Jess whisper-shouted.
“Relax!” You whisper-shouted back, slowing to a stop as soon as you were hidden in the tree line. “We’re not going into the woods, dumbass. What do you think would’ve happened if we waltzed out in the open in front of the living room window?”
Jess only sighed and nodded, letting go of your hand. He let you lead him through the trees, keeping the light of the house close to you, walking around the garage and past all the cars, waiting until Babette’s house was out of sight until you stepped back onto the road.
The walk was calm and quiet, crickets and the breeze occupying you instead of chatter. After a while, when you were beginning to reach the town centre, Jess spoke up. “So, what now?”
You shrugged. “Not sure. Usually I head to the lake, bring a book, or a cd player and some headphones. I don’t normally bring people with me, you know?”
Jess nodded, lips slightly pursed. The walk continued through the town, passing by shop after shop, all of them closed for the night. You had to admit, you weren’t used to taking walks like these, out in the open. Normally you’d find whichever path kept you out of the possible sight of the townspeople, a habit you developed after Taylor snitched on you to your mother after he caught you walking to the lake by the Inn when you were 12. Still, it was nice, and even if you were caught, you somehow didn’t seem to mind it.
As the buildings were fading again and you knew you were approaching the lake, you checked your watch. 9:27pm. You sighed, and Jess looked at you. Dropping your arm, you shook your head. “Almost 9:30. They definitely have to know something’s up at home. Probably sending out a search party by now.” You told him, before shrugging. “Or, you know, miraculously, they forgot we existed and are eating Sookie’s delicious no-allergen, fourteen course meal as we speak.”
Jess scoffed. “Yeah, right. Luke might not care that much, but Lorelai? She seems like the world’s most protective parent.”
“She is.” You confirmed, sitting on your usual bench, eyes following Jess as he sat next to you. “Trust me, I love her to death, but it gets annoying sometimes.”
“Yeah, well, at least you have a protective mom.” Jess’ hands gripped the edge of the bench, his body hunched forward, making him look small, ready to run at a moment’s notice. “Mine decided I wasn’t worth the effort. Shipped me off to this… circus show without so much as a ‘sayonara, kid.’ You’re lucky.”
You frowned. Everyone knew within the hour of him arriving in Stars Hollow that Jess was a troubled kid, but even troubled kids deserved parents that cared. He was right, though, you were lucky. It just didn’t feel like it.
“I know I’m lucky, Jess, but it’s not all rainbows for me, you know.”
“Oh yeah? How?” He scoffed. “You have the perfect life, Y/n. A mom that cares, a great twin sister - hell, even Luke sings your praises.”
“Luke sings?”
Jess rolled his eyes. “You know what I mean.”
“It’s not like that all the time, Jess.” You sighed. “My ‘great’ twin sister is, apparently, so great that she has all eyes on her at all times. My grandparents are always so proud of her for being so smart and planning this amazing, expensive, studious future - they’re planning on funding it, too, from the sounds of things. I just want to live, you know?” You kicked a rock with your shoe, avoiding Jess’ concerned gaze.
“And my mother seems more concerned about her wellbeing than mine, closer to her than to me. But somehow she wonders why I’m the troubled one. I mean, I act out, I barely go to that stupid prep school because it’s so suffocating, and I got an eyebrow piercing without permission instead of taking a calculus test last month, which I’m just getting out of that punishment. Everyone’s so focused on Rory and how seemingly great she is, I don’t even remember the last time I was appreciated for anything. And don’t even get me started on my dad.”
“Sounds like these freaks don’t know a good person when they see one.” Jess told you. “You seem chill. Adventurous, too. But just because you aren’t appreciated doesn’t mean you aren’t good enough.”
You couldn’t help but smile. “You too, Jess.” The world quieted around you for a moment, stars shining off the rippling waters of the lake. “But we don’t need to be good enough for them. Just good enough for us.”
He smiled, nodding once at you. Again, you appreciated the silence with him, watching the water or the sky. It wouldn’t be long until Luke and your mother found you both, you with your head on his shoulder and one knee bent to your chest, laughing quietly at a joke he told as you continued to get to know one another. But that was later. For now, you simply sat and watched the water, wishing the moment could last for the rest of your lives.

Hi people. I’ve been toying with the idea of writing a fanfic and I thought i’d put a feeler out there to see if people are interested in reading my silly little brain worms and thoughts. Word of warning, it’s little rusty and definitely still a work in progress. I don’t yet have a title or anything like that, but i wanna share (ok ok leave me alone)
Part one: Soft.
Reader described as plus-sized. Fem reader. Implied past abusive relationship.
John Price X Reader.
Tumblr media
“Amelia, I said no!” I huff into the phone, getting increasingly frustrated at my best friend’s insistence. She had been going on and on about some big military party that her boyfriend was going to, and of course, because we’re basically attached at the hip, she ‘needs me there’.
“Oh, come onnnn! It’ll be fun! And who knows, we might finally find you a man for you to spend time with instead of you sitting in your apartment and watching reruns of gilmore girls twenty-four-seven.”
I huff and roll my eyes, grateful that she isn’t able to see me. Honestly, the thought of having to drag myself off of my couch and go through the motions of getting ready and attempting to doll myself up makes me feel physically ill. Truth be told, I haven’t left my apartment for weeks. Not since i had that god-awful night with my arsehole of an ex boyfriend.
My mind drifts back to that night, the time I spent getting ready and psyching myself up, all for me to get there and be completely disregarded and used. Like a piece of meat. He’d been blowing up my phone with messages ever since, insisting he was sorry, and that it won’t happen again, and he just got carried away. I hadn’t had the mental capacity to message him back.. My best friends voice pulls me back to reality.
“You’re coming. I’ll be at your flat in twenty minutes with pre drinks. Shower and shave.”
Before I get any chance to worm my way out of this ridiculous ordeal, she kisses me good-bye through the phone and hangs up. I throw my phone to the opposite end of the couch and groan into a pillow. Just when I was settled, watching gilmore girls for the umpteenth time, with a glass of wine and a bowl of crisps… Shit, maybe I do need to get out…
I down the rest of my glass of wine and wince at the taste. I make a mental note to stop being cheap and buying shit wine just because it’s cheaper. After all, it’s not like I can’t afford to buy nicer tasting wine. But truthfully, I don’t go to tescos at 8pm in my pyjamas and buy nice wine to be all sophisticated. I do it to buy cheap wine and get drunk while i watch gilmore girls and cry, wishing i had the same relationship with my mother that Lorelai and Rory have. It’s pitiful, and pathetic.
I huff and drag myself off of my couch and make my way into my bathroom to shower. Once undressed, i notice just how hairy my legs have gotten. But, is it really worth the effort, the sweating and red face just to have smooth legs? I brush off the thought and step into the hot shower. I do my usual: wash and condition my hair, wash my face and body, and then actually decide to shave my goddamn legs. It takes me the better part of fifteen minutes, but beauty is pain, as they say.
Just as i’m stepping out of the bathroom, wrapped in a towel that’s all too small to cover my stomach and wide thighs, my best friend makes herself known, clearly having used her spare key to let herself into my flat. Her face is all scrunched up in disgust at the state of the place and she’s begun to pick up my clothes that are strewn about the place, throwing them into the washing machine. I roll my eyes and make my way into my bedroom, and she follows. She has that shit-eating grin on her face that I know all too well. No doubt she’s going to make me squeeze into some tiny outfit in the hopes i’ll impress some random man and hopefully let him fuck my brains out. She’s highly mistaken.
Instead of a skimpy outfit, we compromise. I end up wearing a mid-length silk dress that has a risky slit up the leg, but not too high that it shows off my cellulite, one of my biggest insecurities. She does up my hair into a messy bun with a few curls framing my face and insists on me wearing her favourite red lipstick, telling me i’ll look ‘fuckable’, her words, not mine. After strapping some heels onto my feet I take one last look in the mirror, face slightly flushed from the two or three glasses of wine Amelia practically poured down my throat to loosen me up. I should feel beautiful, but I don’t. I can’t help but feel like a pig, wrapped in silk and smothered in ridiculous lipstick. Ready to be taken off to market and ridiculed by men that think it’s shameful to like a fat girl. My ex-boyfriend’s attitude and words from the duration of our relationship echoing around my head.
“They don’t see you like I do, babe. They don’t see your personality.”
“You’re wearing that?”
“Oh come on, babe. I was only looking at her. She’s a model, what do you expect?”
After a too long uber ride full of pep-talks by Amelia and discreetly drinking from the remnants of a bottle of wine, we’re standing outside of what can only be described as a fucking mansion. The type that has stairs leading up to its entrance that’s held up by beautifully structured pillars, the type of place i write about in my short stories. There are too many windows to count, most of them lit up by subtle golden glow, the soft buzz of music that’s able to be heart from outside, something soft and jazzy, like the type of music you’d hear in an old jazz bar in New York.
I’m too busy marvelling at the ‘fucking mansion’ in front of me when I hear the recognisable voice of Amelia’s boyfriend, Johnny. Johnny is the type of guy that can make any girl weak in the knees with his charming smile and sparkling blue eyes. He’s sweet and cheeky, but not my type.
“There you two are! Was beginning ‘ter think ‘yaes got lost.”
I give Johnny a polite smile and continue looking up at the grandeur of the building in-front of me while he gives Amelia a kiss and whispers something flirty in her ear. Johnny and Amelia are solid, and he’s good for her. Plus, he knows we come as a package deal, so he makes sure to make me feel included when I end up tagging along on their days out or evening drinks.
“Looking good, bonnie.” Johnny says to me, with a cheeky wink. Amelia laughs, her signature sweet giggle, and it’s clear why she turns heads everywhere we go.
I force a smile and hold back a self-deprecating remark.
“Thanks, Johnny.”
Amelia takes Johnny by the arm and leads her inside, making me follow like an awkward third wheel. I try my best not to feel like an idiot as i’m led into the main ballroom, where i assume the party is being held. Johnny leads us to the bar and buys the three of us a round of drinks. I try to insist that I can buy my own, but both he and Amelia dismiss it and i’m left with a blueberry Martini sitting in front of me at the bar.
After a few minutes of awkward small talk between the three of us, mixed in with too much PDA between Johnny and Amelia for my liking, Johnny leads Amelia off to meet some of his friends, leaving me alone at the bar. I hoist myself onto a barstool, arse spilling over the edge. Fuck sake, I think. People need to start inventing barstools that are fat-girl friendly. I ignore the buzz of chatter in the ballroom and down the rest of my blueberry martini, flagging down the bartender for another one.
I begin sipping on the fresh Martini and start looking back around the room. I can’t help but think this would be a perfect scene to write in one of my stories. A room packed full of rich people dressed in fancy suits and expensive dresses, where everyone pretends to be on their best behaviour.
After a few minutes of being alone at the bar, I make peace with the fact that I will likely be alone for most of the night while Amelia mingles with Johnny and his friends. It doesn’t bother me, per say, but something deep within my belly wishes that one, just once, I could be the one to turn heads, to capture the attention of a group of people with nothing but my appearance and laugh, to have people willing to talk to me and learn about me, without feeling like it’s out of pity.
I shrug to myself and take a few more sips of my martini and let my attention wander over to my best friend and her boyfriend, and his group of (presumably) military friends. Johnny must’ve noticed me sitting alone at the bar and felt pity for me because I see him making his way over, sporting his disarming smile. I smile back.
“What’s the matter, Lass? Not enjoying ‘yerself?”
He leans on the bar casually, and it’s clear he’s making an effort to make me feel included.
“I’m enjoying myself just fine, Johnny. You can go back to your mates and Amelia, don’t worry about me.”
He cocks a brow and flashes that cheeky grin.
“Not gonna join us?”
I shake my head and take another sip of my martini, waving a dismissive hand. I attempt to play it off with a joke.
“Doubt i’d fit in with your military mates.”
He scoffs and looks jokingly offended.
“Aye, come on, Bonnie. We don’t bite. I know Si looks like a scary fucker, but we’re a nice bunch. I swear.”
I laugh and take another sip. Johnny is a good guy, there’s no denying that, even if it does feel like he’s taking pity on his girlfriends fat, single friend that looks like she’d rather be anywhere but here.
Judging from the way he talks about ‘Si’, I make an assumption that he’s the one with the dirty-blonde hair, the one who’s built like a brick shit-house and looks like he could snap anyone in half with one hand.
Johnny points to one of the other lads, a typical pretty boy with striking brown eyes.
“That’s Gaz. He’s a good’un. Likes to flirt too much, but e’s harmless.”
I follow Johnny’s finger as he points to the third man. A man who’s wide, and fucking muscly, but looks like he has a soft layer of fat underneath that expensive suit of his.
“And that, that’s the Cap’n. The best of us all. Keeps us in check when we cause trouble. He won’t admit it, but he’s a softie at heart.”
My eyes stay on the wide man a little longer than the others. I see a smile under his well-groomed mutton chops and moustache that’s peppered with little greys here and there. His shoulders look like they’re about to burst out of his shirt at any given moment, and his hips are exactly the same. That’s all contrasted by his blue eyes, like a deep pool that women no doubt get lost in. The man’s a fucking contradiction. Too wide, Too soft.
Johnny’s voice snaps me back into the room, averting my eyes away from the man I know as ‘Captain’.
“Come on, Bonnie. Come say hello, mingle a little. We don’t bite.”

Omg love this plot, thanks for requesting <333
Rory x fem! Chilton r
Tumblr media
Tw: slight homophobia, yelling, angst, heavy crying, making out
p.s happy ending:))
Times like this, you felt so safe, so protected, like the whole world was at peace. Your head on her chest, your arms snaked around her her waist as her hands played with your hair. Out of nowhere she would kiss your forehead and you would grab her hand and kiss it return.
Both of you just laying on her bed as you watched a random movie.
Afternoons like this were the best, after an exhausting day at Chilton, coming to her house and simply cuddling, then after a long while doing your homework together and of course staying over as Lorelai absolutely loved you.
At one point the movie was getting boring which lead to many kisses on your forehead, so instead of just kissing Rory’s hand back you turned your ear around, resting propping your body up with one of your elbows. You looked into those ocean blue eyes and closed the gap between the two of you.
Rory smiled against your lips which made you almost melt into a puddle. You were about the break the kiss however the blue eyed girl pulled you back in putting her hand on the back of your neck, now your lips moving roughly against each other.
You then moved down to her neck quickly for finding her sweet spot as she let out a hum of pleasure. You made sure to not leave a mark as Lorelai would come soon and you didn’t want her to think you had done it when you hadn’t and weren’t going to soon, you’re relationship was healthy and none of you wanted the other for sex it was only pure love.
After finishing Rory bent her head down to kiss you once again, what the two of you didn’t notice was a very shocked Richard and Emily standing at the door of the room, which apparently you hadn’t heard when it opened.
Emily shrieked as she saw the two of you kissing, she knew you were Rory’s friend and were a very good student at Chilton she never expected this between the two of you.
Hearing a shriek both of you jumped away, leaving you to fall from the bed because of the shock. “Oh my God, grandma grandpa what are you doing here!” Rory exclaimed as she looked at her grandparent with wide eyes, they finally caught her, she had been so careful in keeping her relationship private.
You quickly stood up and straightened out your uniform as you looked at the Gilmores, your parents were good friends with them so you often saw them and they absolutely loved you. However now they had a bewildered look, it was like hatred coming out of their eyes and slowly making your way towards you making a chill go down your spine.
“We just wanted to surprise you, clearly I should be asking what the hell are you doing to my granddaughter!?” Emily answered Rory but now her attention was towards you.
Just like that you froze, Rory picked up your nervousness and took your hand bringing you back to reality. “Grandma.” She said looking over at her “grandpa,” she added now looking at Richard, “the person I’ve been dating this whole time was y/n… I get you’re not used to this type of relationship, but we’re really happy with each other and I hope you can accept us, accept me.” Rory finished, her voice breaking a bit, she was on the verge of crying, she he never been so scared of being accepted.
You carresed her hand with your thumb, hoping to relieve your girlfriend a bit. “No, I will not accept this young girl! A woman is supposed to be with a man not another woman! You’re just confused with friendship !” Emily yelled, this wasn’t right in her eyes, it was crazy.
A few tears came out of Rory’s eyes, how could her own grandma not accept her. “Miss Gilmore, please, I promise what we have is real. I really love your granddaughter and she makes me happy and I make her happy. Please don’t be mad, it’s true love, we just love each other, we can’t control our feelings, love is love…”
“Y/n i have known you for a very long time, I always thought you were a brilliant young girl. I can’t believe you would do this, and raising your voice at me how dare you! I wool speak to your parents about this!” Emily shouted at you anger completely taking over her as Richard just watched, the man wouldn’t even move.
“Hey do not talk to y/n that way! You know what grandma ? If you’re not gonna accept me then leave ! Just leave!” Rory defended you as she shouted back at her grandma pointing towards the door so they would just leave.
“Rory, don’t talk to your grandma that way.” Richard finally spoke up, you looked between Rory and her grandparents not knowing what to do, this was just crazy.
“Hey, hey, what is going on here?” Lorelai asked as walked in with her keys in hand. Thank God for Lorelai’s timing.
As soon as the woman saw her daughters and your puffy eyes she knew what was going on and immediately pushed through Emily and Richard and stood in front of the two girls. “I think you need to leave.” She stated calmly but clearly enraged.
Emily shook her head “Did you know about this? Your daughter and y/n were kissing when we arrived… they’re both girls and they’re dating how can you let tha-“
“Shut up mom. Of course I know about this, Rory and y/n have been going out for a long time now, and I completely accept this. Y/n is soo good for Rory, if you’re not going to accept your own granddaughter for who she loves. Then leave .” Lorelai cut Emily off not likening the way she treated her daughter.
“All of you are a disgrace, we’re leaving” Emily replied enraged, taking Richards hand and turning around. Meanwhile the man looked a bit sadly mouthing a “sorry” as he turned around following his wife’s lead.
The front door was slammed shut and the three girls stood frozen, Rory’s cries was the only thing heard. Y/n placed a kiss to Rory’s head whispering in her ear “I’m so sorry” and then grabbed her backpack.
“I gotta go, they’re gonna tell my parents- I’m sorry thanks for letting me stay over Miss Gilmore”y/n let out, her voice shaky as she made her way to Rory’s door not daring to look back.
“Y/n wait!” Lorelai shouted in hopes of her daughter’s girlfriend coming back but said girl was already outside.

Tumblr media
As I push my way through the door of the apartment, with Austin behind me, giggling like little kids, then stop dead in my tracks. The apartment is drowned in the dim amber light of candles. "What?" I gasp, turning my head to look at Austin. He's grinning at me, brushing a hand through his hair. Looking back at the place, I take my snow boots off and slowly walk around. "Let me take your jacket!" Austin says, reaching his hands from behind me, unzipping the puffer jacket and slipping it off my shoulders. I wonder around, following the candlelit pathway to the kitchen. Tears gloss my eyes, as I take in the beautifully set table and the bouquets of purple star flowers, sitting all around the room. "Aus.." I turn around to look at him, he's now taken off his jacket as well and is standing close behind me, with his hands in his pockets, chewing on his bottom lip nervously. Walking up to him, I cup his face in my hands, touching his bottom lip with my thumb, saving it from the torture of his teeth. "How did you do all this? When?" I ask in awe of it all, looking it his beautiful blue eyes, which shine a bright shade of teal in the bright orange candle light.
Austin blushes, settling his hands on my waist, pulling me closer to his chest, letting me feel the tremble of his heart. "You like it?" He asks shyly, brushing his nose against my cheek, as I turn my head around to look at the scene. "I- yes, no one's ever done anything like this for me before, this is so beautiful." I say, my voice wavering a bit with emotion. "I asked Matt to come set this up, I found this small flower shop today, while you were on set, when I was exploring." Austin tells me, his hands traveling down my side, slowly reaching the back of my thighs, his strong fingers gripping the flesh. He lifts me up, wrapping my legs around his waist, making me squeal out of surprise. "I saw purple star flowers in the display window and I know they are your favorite, so I got you a bouquet." He tilts his head down, to touch his delicate lips on my neck. I tangle my hands in his sandy hair, pulling at the roots, feeling the vibration of his groan. "But then I thought about that thing you told me, how your favorite scene form Gilmore Girls is when Max proposes to Lorelai with a thousand daisies." Austin's lips brush my tender flesh, his hot breath fanning against my cheek as he chuckles. "Now I'm not proposing, but I just thought - God I'd love to see her face coming home to a thousand purple star followers."
My heart squeezes painfully with the emotion overload, all these things I'm feeling are new to me and my brain and heart are trying to work together, processing everything. "They didn't have a thousand of them, but I hope it still coun-" I cut him off by roughly glueing my lips on his. We sigh into the kiss, his hands traveling up my back, keeping me flush to him. It's a mess of lips and tongues and teeth clinging together, short breaths escaping us. "Wow, baby.." Austin exclaims, curling a strand of hair behind my ear. "Thank you so much Austin, I don't think I can explain how much it means to me, that you did this for me." I put my forehead against his, closing my eyes, soft streams of salt running down my cheeks and he's quick to kiss each tear away. Then his plush lips, land on my left eye, then on my right, then on the tip of my nose, the corner of my mouth and lastly my lips. I can taste the salt on his tongue, moaning into his mouth. "I'm so glad you like it, now how about we eat? Hm, I made pizza?"
Austin pulls back, looking at me with a childish smile and I shake my head, kissing his lips one more time, before he walks us over to the kitchen table, putting me down on one of the chairs. "Stay here, I asked Matt to put it in the oven on the heating setting, I made it before you got back from set." Placing my elbows on the table and resting my head in my hands, I watch him wash his hands, then go over to the oven, pulling out his famous pizza, the delicious smell reaching my nostrils, making my tummy twist with hunger. "So this is why you were so eager to go out for a walk?" I quirk a brow at him, also getting up to wash my hands, looking around for my cats, suddenly worried about all the candles. "They are in the bedroom" Austin reads my mind. "I'm sorry, if you want I can blow the candles out and get them here." Austin suggests, referring to William and Simba. "No, I'll just go check on them, I'll be right back."
He nods, setting the pizza on the table, as I go over to the bedroom, opening the door slowly, peaking my head in. "Aus come here!" I whisper exited, waving him over. He comes behind me, looking over my shoulder and I crack the door open a bit more, showing him, the two fluff balls, cuddled up together on the crochet blanket he's making out of hearts. "They look so peaceful." Austin whispers, circling his arms around me. "Yeah..." then my stomach decides to start calling for food, making Austin laugh, pulling me back towards the kitchen, so we can eat. "I'm really grateful you came to visit, it was starting to get a little lonely here." I say, sitting down, quickly lacing my fingers with his, keeping him close, a chuckle going past his lips as he stumbles over his own feet. "Want me to pull my chair next to you?" He quirks a brow at me, the corner of his mouth twisting up in a boyish smile. "Yes." I respond pulling on his arm, laughing when he bents down to place a kiss on the top of my head.
"I never understood why the need to sit opposite of each other on dates anyway." Austin stretches his arm out, dragging his chair next to mine, sitting down as well, placing the palm of his hand on my thigh. "Date? I've never been on a date before." I say wide eyed, grinning from ear to ear, making Austin laugh. His hand squeezes my thigh, causing the breath to get caught in the back of my throat, it's like a thousand electric shocks travel from where his palm lays on my denim cover leg. "One day, I'm going to take you out on a date somewhere nice..." he promises, moving his hand up my thigh. "One day, I'll be able to scream from the top of my lungs how I'm the luckiest guy alive, because you're mine and I yours." He's so close, I can taste his breath on my tongue and it makes my mouth water. I feel the heat rise to my cheeks, my heart pumping fast, it's beats resonating in my ears. I swallow thickly and lean forward, gently touching my lips to his. "I'm yours and you are mine." I whisper before teasing his bottom lip with the tip of my tongue. Austin groans, kissing me, softly, his free hand cupping my cheek, thumb caressing my silky skin.
He pulls away too fast, making me whine, which makes him snicker at me. "Let's eat, you're hungry." Austin cuts a slice of his homemade pizza, lifting it up and bringing it to my lips. "Really? I can feed myself." I laugh, trying to take the slice from him, but he doesn't let me. "Ah ah it's romantic, now let me feed you!" He fake pouts, pushing the slice in my face one more time.
All these small things he does, from calling me sweet pet names like baby or darling to letting me shave him, or asking to paint my nails, all these small pieces of affection mean so much to me. I can't say that I've had this kind of attention before, it's not the kind a parent or a sibling gives you, it's so much more different, because the person has no biological obligation to do these.
"How do you like it?" He asks, taking a bite out of the same slice as well. I'm searching in my brain for the right way to say all the things I want, but I'm stuck and worry washes over his face when I take a moment too long to answer. Austin puts the slice down on the plate, wiping his hands on a tissue. One of his hands comes up to touch my cheek, the moment his fingers touch my skin, I feel the wetness. I'm crying again. "I can't explain to you, how much it means, that you do these things for me. Things I never knew could make me feel so many emotions at once." I chuckle, sniffing. His mouth twitches in a quick smile, then his eyes become red and hot streams of tears, go past his leads and onto his rosy cheeks. "I haven't always made the best decisions in regards of relationships and one day I'll tell you all about it, but baby, (y/n), you are the one thing I promise to never mess up." He takes my right hand in between his, bringing it up to his lips, kissing my knuckles, then opening my hand and placing it on his face. Austin closes his eyes and leans into my touch.
I look at this man, this man who everyday since we promised to give this "more than friends" thing a try, has been opening up to me, has been so gentle and patient. His soul is so pure and safe. My thumb touches his lid softly, feeling his eyelashes ticking the pad of my finger. He opens his blue eyes to me, smiling brightly, before he kisses the palm of my hand one more time. "Let's finish eating, then we can watch a movie." He says going back to feeding me. "Can we watch pirates of the Caribbeans?" I ask chewing my bite of pizza. "We can watch anything you want baby!" Austin tells me, drinking some wine.

Later after dinner and one too many glasses of wine, we've both changed in more comfortable clothes and are now sitting on the couch. I look at the screen of the tv, but my mind isn't really there, having watched this movie so many times before I almost know it by heart. In my peripheral vision I see Austin, his head in hand, leaning on the backrest of the couch, looking at me. "You're so beautiful, (y/n), do I tell you that enough?" He asks, playing with my hair, arranging some stray strands of hair behind my ear. I blush deeply and look at him. His smile is sloppy and his eyes are droopy, he definitely had more to drink than I did, he's not drunk, but tipsy and it's clear his relaxed. "Yes, you do, thank you." I bite my lip, looking at him, my eyes travel between his lips and his eyes.
Austin seems to read my mind, his hands grabbing my hips roughly, making me yelp as he settles me on his lap, straddling his hips. My heart races beyond control and it's like I can feel the blood running through my veins. "I'm yours..." he says, then he pulls me into a wet open mouthed kiss, his lips running over mine, sucking the breath out of me. My fingers search purchase in his golden locks, enjoying the softness of his hair. His chest vibrates with each grunt and moan. I feel weak, I feel so hungry for him, I feel so powerful yet so vulnerable. My hips move against his on instinct, feeling the bulge in his sweatpants, through my thin leggings.
Austin hands grip my hips tighter, pushing me further forward on him. I sigh into his mouth, trembling at the feeling of his hard on rubbing into me just the right way. "Baby, I- god don't stop, please!" Austin begs throwing his head back, moving my hips over his. "Shit, shit, that's it baby, (y/n)!" I kiss down his neck, biting and licking and sucking every patch of skin I can, marking him as mine. My hands stay in his hair the whole time, pulling and scratching at his roots, drawing the sweetest sounds out of him. "Aus.." pleasure builds in the pit of my belly, I can feel the wetness seeping through my leggings and I'm now chasing my pleasure as well as his. "Baby, (y/n), fuck, I'm close, please keep going."
Austin's hands dig into my flesh, keeping my rhythm steady. His hips lift off of the couch, meeting mine in a sweet dance of back and forth. I grind down on him, breathing hard, sucking his bottom lip, biting it, causing him to growl. "Shit, I'm , fuck, I'm cuming.." Austin grunts, tensing, then with a long and loud moan he relaxes. I'm breathing so heavily, my mind hazy, I'm still hungry for that release. "Get up baby, take off your leggings and panties, I want you to ride my thigh." Austin tells me and I follow suit, almost stumbling over my feet, struggling to take off my leggings faster.
"Jesus baby, (y/n) you're soaked. God." I bite my lip, crimson painting my cheeks. I look away, embarrassed all of a sudden, then his hands lay on my hips again and he pulls me to him. "My darling, my sweet darling!" Austin uses his nose to lift my shirt up a bit, exposing my belly and placing a sweet kiss right there, making my insides twist with need. "Come on, straddle my thigh baby." Austin pulls me to sit on his thigh, a moan leaving my lips, the moment the rough cotton of his pants touches my sensitive pussy. He smiles at me, his teeth shining in the dimly lit room. Blue eyes sparkling at me, watching me with such admiration and affection, I've never felt so beautiful before. "Like this..." he whispers, moving me over his thigh, the friction bringing me the pleasure I so much craved. I moan, keeping my eyes on his. Austin lifts his leg up a bit, the new angle pushing me further towards him. One of his hands leaves my hips, coming to my front, reaching for my clit, drawing tight circles on it. "Yes, please, Austin." I brace myself on his shoulders, hiding my face in the crook of his neck, as he keeps me grinding on him, stimulating my clit at the same time, the calloused pads of his fingers, working me like magic. "You're so wet, my beautiful girl, doing so well for me, are you close (y/n)?" His voice right in my ear, brings a new wave of pleasure jolting through me, I tremble in his arms, nodding my head with a soft cry, all words lost on me. "Come on honey, relax for me, cum all over my thigh."
Austin keeps the pace steady, whispering sweet praises into my ear, kissing the side of my face. I feel the bubble ready to burst, so I moan louder, urging my hips to move faster. "Yes, fuck, Austin, my sweet Austin!" I feel the bubble burst and it's so sweet and so amazing, it's like I'm free falling, every muscle in my body becomes drenched in this release. Austin rides my orgasm out, rubbing my back. "Perfect, good girl, always so beautiful."
We sit like this for a while, me on his thigh and him hugging me, then his hand moves from my hip and over to my leg, dragging it over his other leg. I squeal in surprise and he chuckles. "Let's take a shower, I want to wash your hair again." Austin says, getting off the couch with me tightly wrapped around him, my head leaning on his shoulder. "Ok, I guess you won the right to do it." I say, a big yawn leaving my lips. "Did I now?" Austin laughs, walking to the the bathroom. "I think you did."

eumoirous: happiness due to being honest & wholesome
stars hollow was the dream town. it was a town full of popcorn smells, charming classic stores that had been there a hundred years, and people full of love. one woman in particular caught your attention the moment you moved to town. being new in such an old-timer town, full of such a tight knit group, was impossible. the judgmental looks and small town talks. you were in town for an hour and met one person, your neighbor andrew. and a rumor about you moving to start in a new life because you committed vehicular manslaughter was the new gossip.
despite the lack of welcome from the town with a population of one thousand, seven hundred, and seventy-nine. there was one person that happened to like the smile on your face as you unpacked your floral lamp from the truck. your hair pulled back in a ponytail, your moving clothes already causing a stain. two girls approached you from the sidewalk, two coffees in their hands. the taller one was the first to speak, something weird you couldn't focus on the moment you looked into her bright eyes. it was when the shorter one, with lighter hair, smiled at you. "hi, you're the new girl. the talk of the town."
"guess so," you had chuckled nervously as you wiped your hands against your jeans and held it toward for the young girl to shake. she didn't seem older than seventeen or eighteen. but she had a warm smile. "nice to meet you, i'm rory. this is my mom, lorelai. welcome to stars hollow."
"thank you. i'm y/n." you had responded chirping with a bright grin. happy that you had found some normal human beings in this small town. the two (very weakly) helped you carry in a few items. until rory had to head off to school that morning. leaving you alone with lorelai gilmore, an inn owner you had learned. the two of you couldn't hold in the laughter as she helped you unpack a few things. the unpacking leading to way too much spiked coffee and laughs on the still wrapped couch. the two of you talked for hours and you hadn't ever felt so close to someone so quickly.
you started with flowers out of your vintage van. painted sage green with your logo in a light yellow. paintings of flowers lined the outside, something you had done your own. it was incredibly beautiful and special. driving around to the local businesses to sell flowers to those who wanted them. after a day of selling several sets of roses, tulips, sunflowers, daises and any other flowers you found beautiful. it was when you stopped for dinner at the local diner, luke's. one lorelai raved about to you days ago. the moment you stepped in you noticed the two girls once again. both ushered you over and you enjoyed a dinner with the two full of way too much junk food. that the diner man scolded you for.
it had been three years since that night. since the night you and the gilmore girls had become quite personal with one another. you honestly would consider the two your family by now. lorelai being there when you had the flu for a week. and you being there for rory's first day of college, the opening of lorelai's inn, the day your dear mother died — two many breakups on all of your behalfs. the three of you were inseparable. you were an honorary gilmore.
the first rule of the gilmore girls is no secrets. at least that's what they told you when you were welcomed into their family years ago. so when you and lorelai held a deepened secret from rory, something you had hidden for months at this point. you had started dating lorelai gilmore exactly two months ago. but your feelings for one another had lasted for longer than you could ever know.
hiding the relationship from rory was a wish made by lorelai the moment the two of you first shared a kiss. you understood it and still did. rory was always her priority, something you admired. she didn't want to do this and tell rory if it would just mess up the relationship and make it messy. but after two months, you could feel the annoyance grow. "i'll tell her another time" or "she's stressed right now, i don't want to make her shave her head!" or even "it's not the right time."
you were falling in love with her — three years in the process. this wasn't some rash decision to hide and you started to feel like you had just moved to town again. lorelai was embarrassed of you, in your mind at least. but the weeks without rory as she prepped for her midterms at harvard made being annoyed at lorelai even more difficult. too much alone time and too many kisses. god, you loved her so much.
the night of your second month anniversary was something you had been planning for days. it was four-thirty when you used your spare key to get into the gilmore house. an hour before lorelai would be off work. you decorated the house in several bouquets of roses, specifically in her bedroom. starting on dinner, something simple but absolutely delicious. a dish you had learned when you were little and known your entire life. you made it often but lorelai loved it so — it seemed perfect. by the time you had changed into a dress that you knew would make your girlfriend drool, she was already walking through the door.
a black dress covering her torso matching a sparkling cardigan. she looked as beautiful as ever, a bright smile on her face as she threw her purse on the chair. her eyes locked on you. "burglars break into houses looking that hot? i didn't see that in home alone."
"happy anniversary, lor." you greeted as the girl walked forward, firmly pressing her lips to yours. it felt much needed and much desired. her hand danced through your hair, her other brushing the waist on your dress. your lips danced for a moment as you pulled away in a hum. a pout proudly held on lorelai's face. "more kiss, or die!"
you pressed your lips to hers one more time. preparing for a simple kiss before you dined together. except, the kiss led way farther than anticipated. your arms wrapping around one another as she pushed you back lightly into the wall. your hand grasped the back of her neck, pulling her deeper into you. there were moments of the kiss until you pulled apart. a look lost on your face, a familiar one as you grabbed her hand and ran upstairs and into her room. the food could wait.
it was only moments later that the front door opened. a pair of boots clicking. rory gilmore took off her shoes and her jacket, her eyes glancing around the room. she noticed her mother and her family friend's cars outside. they were here unless they decided to walk to luke's in the spring weather. the girl immediately smelled the food on the stovetop — filling her nose quickly. rory made her way into the kitchen, noticing the hot food. she took a bite of it with a goofy grin. a shuffle from upstairs catching her attention.
"mom!" rory called out through the house, the food muffling her voice. she heard no reply and made her way up towards the stairs. hoping it wasn't some stars hollow axe murderer. she was already upstairs when she and noticed the roses, tilting her head in confusion. she had seen the movies, she knew of the romantic gesture. but her mother lacked any relationship in her life. i mean maybe she had seen a little over happy the past few months but that was nothing crazy for lorelai gilmore. so rory entered with caution, hoping to a) not find a killer b) not find her mother naked. guess which was half wrong!
"what the- ah!" rory screeched as she ran back in the hallway upon her current viewing. lorelai gilmore had never jumped up so fast, throwing her dress back over her exposed bra. her girlfriend sat below her, widened eyes. she attempted to fix her messy hair as lorelai ran after her daughter. "rory!"
"mh... i'm leaving!" the girl yelled as she ran down the stairs, her mother trailing behind her. "where did you get this athletic genes, jesus!"
"i'll just leave you guys- girls to it! ha, um." rory entered the foyer before her mother stopped her. rory gilmore had never expected to see what she saw. she always saw y/n y/l/n as a family figure, as someone truly important to her. and she knew her mother felt the same way but not this way. "rory, c'mere. i- darn you. i need to talk to you."
the girl huffed as she turned to face her mother. "you missed a rose petal there," she mumbled as she pointed to the petal in the woman's hair. she formed a small smile as she wiped it out of her own hair. a hand holding her daughter's forearm. "rory, i'm sorry. i- i should have told you i know. but i didn't want to ruin your relationship with her."
"ruin relati- just. mom, what?" the girl's voice went extremely high. only dogs being able to hear her at this point. lorelai wrapped her arms around herself as she sighed, you coming up from behind the both of them. rory gave you and awkward look, it being difficult to look at you at this moment. knowing you were just about to nail her mother. "look, rory, i'm sorry. i'm so sorry. but i was scared. because i know this-" she ushered between you and her. "-is something new. and just something you're not used to. i didn't want to scare you away or frighten you in anyway. i'm still mom, and y/n's still y/n."
the girl sighed softly as she looked between the both of you. she brushed a hand through her hair turning towards you. "are you serious about her? like you're not gonna pull a brad pitt?"
"so serious, rory, i promise. you're mother means everything to me and i'm sorry you were left out of this. because even though it's our relationship, you are your mother's first concern and responsibility. you come first and you also do in my book as well. you know i love you kid. so you should have been involved, because this affects you just as much as it does us." you explained making lorelai bite her lip. she felt bad for keeping this from rory. she knew this was her fault. but she also knew, what you just said, meant everything to her.
"well okay," rory smiled softly as she leaned forward and pulled you into a hug. following then by hugging her mother who looked at you over her shoulder. a look of apology on her face as you flashed her a small smile — one forgiving. "so, um... the fancy dinner and petals? i'm assuming this is a celebration of some sort."
"two months. two very amazing months," lorelai smiled towards you as she reached for your hand and squeezed it tightly. resulting in a smile from the girl you had watched grow up. "well congratulations guys. i love you both."

the last in line || e.m.
in which you really need coffee and eddie just happens to be in your way
eddie x fem!reader we’ve all heard of luna lovegood readers, now I give you lorelai gilmore readers (aka caffeine-fueled slightly chaotic individuals).
content: meet-cute,  a lil’ bit of flirting, a lil’ bit of caffeine dependency, 100% inspired by my favourite story in gilmore girls, badly proofread because it’s 2:30am
word count: 2.9k
The diner is unsurprisingly busy, like every Friday night, when the Hellfire Club walks in. Small but cozy, it’s  located on the very edge of town. The checkered floor is sticky and the smell of oil mixed with cinnamon clings to the light blue walls and the fake leather seats like bad perfume, but they always have rock music playing softly in the background and, better yet, they make the best burger and fries in town since Benny’s closed down -greasy, tasty and cheap. Perfect for a bunch of hungry boys with limited budgets.
Grabbing a bite after their weekly meetings has become new a tradition now that Eddie and Jeff have graduated, both boys part of Hellfire still, their friendship and bonds over shared interests transcending the halls of Hawkins High. They’re a rowdy group, rambunctious and loud, and they don’t have the best reputation in town, but the owner knows them and always welcomes them in without qualms, just a plea to keep the noise to a minimum. They try their best to behave and fail half the time.
Tonight, the Club is particularly animated. They started a new campaign earlier today and Eddie’s gone all out. With an intricately designed storyline, extra minor quests, tricky villains and a surprise plot twist at the end that no one’s expecting, this is his best work yet, if he says so himself. Satisfied with the feedback he’s received so far, Eddie is in a very good mood as they sit around their usual booth, one to the right that’s big enough for all seven of them, so much so that he volunteers to order for the group.
As it often happens when they get together, chaos ensues, each boy outscreaming the others trying to get their leader’s attention, words mixing in that cacophony of incoherent noise that seems to follow them everywhere. But if the party’s loud, Eddie Munson is louder, and he commands attention with ease. Slamming is ringed hand on the wooden table, he makes himself heard. “Shut up!”
Six pairs of eyes focus on him, knowing better than to try and argue with the boy -he’s nothing if not stubborn, and although kind and generous, Eddie hates to be contradicted or ignored. So they look in silence, expectantly, as they do when they’re in the middle of a campaign and he’s weaving stories in a low voice.
A cheeky smile that borders on condescension spreads across Eddie’s lips when he leans over the table.“Now, boys, let’s behave.” He slides out of his seat and shoves his hands into his pockets, retrieving a crumpled piece of paper that he smoothes out on the table. “Do any of you have a pen?”
Dustin rummages through his backpack and hands Eddie a nearly dry pen from the front pocket. He struggles to get the ink flowing, idly leaning forward, resting on his elbows, but finally manages to write down their orders, pointing to his friends one by one so they speak in turn. He then stands up, snatches the paper with a flourish and walks towards the bar.
He passes by two teenage girls who send disgusted looks his way, and when Eddie wiggles his fingers in mock salute, they turn their attention back to one of the many magazines spread out on the table between them.
There’s a couple holding hands and what seems to be a family of four already at the counter, the parents struggling to read the menu and keep their two young children quiet. While the father tries to control a restless boy, the mother is holding a pouty little girl on her hip.
Eddie sighs dramatically to himself and stops a few feet behind, waiting for his turn with an exaggerated sour face. He busies himself thinking about the latest song he’s working on, his fingers playing invisible chords on his thigh, his foot tapping the floor to a beat only he can hear. It draws the attention of the little girl, who looks at him over her mum’s shoulder with big curious eyes.
The boy smiles and sticks out his tongue at her, chuckling amusedly when she hides behind her mother’s hair. He’s considering talking to her when he feels two taps on his shoulder.
Eddie turns around, confusion clouding his features, only to find you glancing up at him with a wide smile and gleaming eyes. He raises an eyebrow and gives you a quick once-over. You look a little dishevelled, your clothes wrinkled and a red scrunchie doing a poor job at holding your hair back, but it kind of works for you. You’re cute, he thinks. And if Eddie Munson is sure of anything in this life is that cute girls like you don’t walk up to him and strike up a conversation. And yet…
“Hiya.” You say, too brightly, too cheerily for Eddie’s taste.
“Hi..?” He answers, polite but cautious. He’s been the target of one too many attempted pranks at the hands of his classmates, not that any were successful, and he instantly feels on edge at the memory of a giggly cheerleader walking up to him, trying to trick him into an obviously fake date.
“How’s it going?” You’re jiggling on your feet, blinking owlishly at him, and he’s getting nervous, a feeling tiptoeing the line between anticipation and apprehension. No, cute girls like you don’t usually chat Eddie up, but oh, how he wishes you would.
“‘M great.” Eddie ducks his head to level his eyes with yours, squinting. You notice the way his jaw clenches and your smile grows bigger. “Can I help you?” He instantly dislikes the bite to his words, his prudence turned into unfair resentment, but if you pick up on it, you give no sign of it.
“Well, now that you mention it…,” you motion to the counter with your hand, nails painted a pretty dark red colour that Eddie likes very much, “...can I go first?”
The boy snorts. He must have heard wrong. “Excuse me?”
You don’t lose your saccharine sweet smile. Instead, you clasp your hands together, shifting from one foot to the other to the rhythm of the music. “Can I order first?”
Definitely not what Eddie was expecting. The boy takes a quick look around. No one seems to be listening to your conversation, there’s no group of jocks laughing at him, no friend waiting for you in a booth with a smug smirk on her face. There’s just you and those big innocent eyes of yours looking at him in a way that make his breath hitch in his throat.
Eddie stares at you. You stare back.
“…no.” He turns around, his back to you, positively dumbfounded.
“Oh, come on!” You move to stand beside him and he instinctively takes a step back. “There’s too many people in line already and I’m desperate here!”
Maybe it’s the way you’re looking at him, with a pinch in your eyebrows, maybe it’s the melodramatic undertone to your words -one he’s well-acquainted with-, or maybe it’s just a momentary lapse in judgement caused by all the serotonin in his bloodstream, but Eddie laughs and decides to play along.
“So am I, I have a family to feed.” He throws his thumb over his shoulder towards his booth. You lean to the side and follow the direction of his finger with your eyes. Six boys sit around a table chattering loudly, none of them paying any attention to you two.
“You’ve definitely been busy, haven’t ya?” You meet his eyes again and snicker briefly, amused by your own joke. He hopes you don’t notice the rush of blood that tinges his cheeks at your words. “I just want coffee, please, please. I’m not above begging.”
Eddie flicks his wrist and glances at his watch. “It’s 8:30 pm.”
You shrug, because duh. “I know.”
“You want coffee at 8:30 pm.” It isn’t a question as much as him stating the obvious. He’s looking at you like you have three heads.
“So what? Coffee knows no time.” You huff, pushing your lower lip out in a pout, and Eddie stares again, because it looks pink and bitten and at the end of the day, he is but a simple guy. “Look, what’s your name?”
“Eddie.”
You offer him yours in return. It’s a pretty name for a pretty girl. He tries it under his breath, and likes the way it tastes on his tongue. You won’t tell him that you’ve heard it, that he isn’t subtle, nor that you find him cute. He doesn’t need to know that, not yet -you’re now committed to your bit.
"Well, Eddie, see, life's unfortunate circumstances have made me a student. I've spent the whole day in the library,” you point to your messy clothes and hair, the result of many hours sitting at a desk and a few anxious tears, “and I'm desperate to get my coffee and go home."
Eddie rises a quizzical brow, crosses his arms and tilts his head to the side. You like the way his fluffy curls cascade over his shoulder, how they look soft to the touch. His lips twitch, trying to conceal a smile, but the lines under his eyes, right where his eyelashes touch betray him and your heart bumps and thumps in your chest. “You’ve come here all the way from the library to get coffee? We’re on the other side of town.”
“What can I say? Donny makes the best coffee in Hawkins.”
“You’re on a first name basis with the owner?”
There’s a glint in your eyes and a dimple in your smile when you reply, like you’re hiding secrets and daring him to find them out. “I’m on a first name basis with anyone who gives me what I want.”
If Eddie was nervous before, now his stomach is doing somersaults for completely different reasons. His cheeks are burning and he prays to whoever is listening that they don’t look as red as they feel. And then, he does what he’s best at when he feels out of control: he ignores the issue and backs off, willing his poor heart to calm down from its frantic rattling.
“You- you have problems.”
“So I’ve been told.” You answer, clearly amused, and your laugh sounds like bells, light and melodious, like it belongs in a song. When he doesn’t answer, you try again, the urge to push his buttons rivaling your need for caffeine. “You know, I don’t think good ol’ Ronnie would appreciate your lack of chivalry.”
At the bar, the couple has already ordered and the waitress moves on to the family. The little girl is sound asleep in her mother’s arms, but the boy is still babbling and in full motion, climbing up the stool and jumping off to the floor, running away and back under the tired watch of his father.
Eddie steps forward, away from you and your bizarre, albeit charming -not that he would admit it- nonsense, and exhales. “What are you talking about?”
You poke the patch on the back of his vest. “Ronnie James Dio?” Eddie gives you a puzzled look and you throw your head back, defeat and fatigue taking away all the fun. Puns are less funny if you have to explain them. “The Last in Line?” You make a motion with your arms, signaling first to where he’s standing, then to the empty space behind you.
It’s Eddie’s turn to look at the ceiling, choking back a laugh. “Holy shit.” He drags out the words, then looks at you with an expression that’s somewhere between deeply exasperated and thoroughly entertained. “That one’s bad, sweetheart, that one’s veeeery bad. Just for that, I won’t let you go first. See, me and my boys are really hungry, can’t have the kids waiting. Sorry, love.”
Your face falls, jaw slacked in dramatic offence. You really want coffe and really, really want to go home and crash into your bed; but you also think Eddie’s attractive, you like the subtle dimples in his smile and how flustered you can get him. And there’s a challenge in his eyes, you see it clear as day, dancing in between specs of chocolate and umber, a challenge that you can’t refuse.
You study the boy, scanning him up and down; the quirk of your brow making him hold his breath. Your eyes flick to the right, then back to his face, a promise of trouble and mischief in your smirk. “When’s your birthday?”
Eddie frowns, confused. “January 26, why?”
“I’ll be right back.”
He watches as you nip over to the table where the two teenage girls are sitting, helpless victims to your machinations. They protest when you snatch a magazine from their hands and turn the pages roughly until you find what you want, only to grab the pen one of them is holding and scribble something down furiously. With a swift motion, you tear the bottom of the page out and stroll back to his side, ignoring the girls’ angry whines.
You stop a few feet away from Eddie and stretch out your arm, offering him the torn paper. He takes it, curiosity winning over reluctance, and reads. It’s the horoscope section of whichever tween magazine the girls were reading. Under Aquarius, in swooping letters, and with a little smiley face adorning the corner, you’ve written:
“You will meet an annoying woman today. The faster she gets her coffee, the faster she will go away.”
Eddie can’t help the laugh that escapes his lips, clear and warm and boyish. You smile as he looks at you, then back at the paper and at you again. He bites his lower lip, thoughts racing his a mile a minute. Perhaps sometimes cute girls do approach people like him, and not just for a laugh at his expense. Perhaps he finds you endearing, the same way his friends accept his own antics and weird moods.
He nods once, pointing at you with his chin, pursing his lips to hide his grin. “Do you actually like Dio?”
“Duh,” you say, not unkindly, playfully, as if you’ve known each other for years, “The Last In Line is great, but I think Holy Diver is still my favourite.”
“Can’t argue with that.” Eddie beams at you, teeth on full display, dimples and laughter lines adorning the pretty curve of his lips. And then, to your delight, with a wave of his arm, he takes a step back and bows. “Please, m’lady, go ahead.”
You take his place in line and laugh again, that joyous sound that rings like music, like it should be in a ballad, or an anthem, like maybe Eddie should record it and put it in his new song. He may ask you, if he gathers enough courage before you go.
                                                             -
With a warm coffee to go held tightly in your hands, you turn around, away from the counter, finally all set to go home. You take one, two, three steps and stop right in front of Eddie. “Thank you. You have no idea how much I needed this.”
“You lucked out, y’know?” He leans in, confidentially. “Any other guy would’ve called Pennhurst straight away.”
“How, oh kind sir, will I ever repay you?” You nudge him softly. You’re somehow closer than you were before, looking up at him through your lashes, and if he didn’t know better, Eddie would think you’re playing coy.
You’re giving him the opportunity, he realises, the one chance to ask for what you both want. He’d be an utter fool not to take it.
“You can go out with me some time.”
And you don’t know if it’s his boldness, or those awfully big brown eyes, or maybe it’s both, but you’re suddenly speechless and can only nod, cheeks burning hot, until words find you again. Only one. “Okay.”
“Okay,” Eddie’s eyes widen, like he can’t believe his luck, because he truly can’t, and he’s fearless because of you, “it’s a date.”
You look to the floor, hiding your face, hiding a smile. “Sounds great.” And you make to the door; your heart in a frenzy inside your chest, blood rushing to your ears, numbing the sounds around you until Eddie’s voice calling your name reaches you crystal clear.
“Hey! I don’t have your number…”
You turn around slowly, that mischievous glint back in your eyes. “I think you do. Good night, Eddie.”
The door chimes when you push it, the sound of the late evening traffic coming in from the street until it closes again behind you. You don’t look back and leave him wanting, anticipating, the cogs turning in his head.
He looks down at the ripped paper he’s still holding like a trophy and, on a hunch, flips it around. There it is, in the same sloping handwriting.  Your phone number, with a little heart doodle at the end.
Eddie must be dreaming. Today is definitely a great day.
                                                  🌷 🌷 🌷

Hi lovely! I was wondering if I could request a blurb of Rory Gilmore x fem!reader where they just have a cute movie night with loralei or hang out with lane ?
Thanks, vesper <3
hi darling!!! oh my god i have been dying to write for rory for so long, so thank you so so much for sending this in!!! mentions of food
in true gilmore fashion, the living room table was near invisible beneath the monumental array of snacks spread across it.
rory had invited you along to one of her and lorelai's movie nights, an event your girlfriend had told you countless stories about. you thought her warning of how seriously her mom took these evenings was hyperbolic, but you quickly realised her words rang true.
from the moment you had entered, you were swept into a whirlwind of questions: which movie do you prefer, casablanca or thelma and louise? what snacks are your favourite? do you prefer sweet or salted popcorn?
rory had commented that her mom was never usually this over the top, and it was likely she just wanted to make a good impression for her girlfriend. though you waved her off, you were secretly delighted at the notion lorelai cared enough about you to put on this spectacle.
finally, the movie had started.
whilst lorelai sat to her right, you were to the left of rory, her hand in yours as she played mindlessly with your fingers, eyes never leaving the screen.
the two of you were only slightly cuddled into one another, not wanting to deal with lorelai's constant teasing at your expense. a thick, knit blanket swaddled you both,
you couldn't help the butterflies that stirred as you listened to her quips and comments, some intellectual and others just plain hilarious. soon, your attention was on the alternative dialogue rory and her mother were offering rather than the movie itself, something that didn't go unnoticed by rory.
"you're not watching the movie." her voice was soft, the slightest inclination of amusement in her tone.
in response, you shrugged, looking down at your intertwined hands.
"i find you much more entertaining."
you were interrupted by a piece of popcorn hitting your face and bouncing into your lap. the faux innocent look on lorelai's face indicated her guilt, and the piece of popcorn she slipped into her mouth confirmed that she was the culprit.
"less flirting, more watching," she said, shooting you a sly smile before turning back to the movie.
rory only laughed, leaning into your side and pressing a kiss to your shoulder. you beamed under her touch, happy that you could spend a night like this with her.

“Hess!” Dean Yelled storming over to Jess with anger.
“What do you want Dean?” Jess asked annoyed as he turned to face the tall brunnette.
“What are you doing around Y/n?” Dean asked fuming like a cartoon character.
Jess scoffed with a smirk. “That’s not any of your business.”
“I’m making it my business.” Dean scowled at Jess’s answer.
“Leave it alone forester.” Jess narrowed his eyes at Dean. This was none of his business.
“No.” Dean grabbed Jess’s shoulder and he went to walk away, and forcibly turned him back to face himself.
“Why do you care? Huh? Your dating Rory.” Jess fired back. He knew he was pushing Dean’s buttons. He always did, but it normally had to do with Rory. Why should he care about him and Y/n? He shouldn’t. An that pisses Jess off. “You know I see Lorelai and Rory every day at the diner. Should I tell one of them or both of them that you are jealous of me hanging out with Y/n? When you are with Rory? I didn’t think so.”
With those words said it was the last straw for Dean. He threw a punch into Jess’s face, giving him a solid right hook. Making Jess stumble back. Of course, that pissed Jess off so he tackled him. An of course a fight broke out. Which got a lot of people watching, and gathering around.
“Rory?” Y/n asked tilting her head to the side as the two stopped on the steps of the school. Watching the scene before them.
“Yeah, I see it.” Rory nodded, even though neither girl was looking at the other.
“Should we break them apart?” Y/n asked with a furrowed brow.
“Probably.” Rory nodded again, answering her friend. As both girls continued to watch their guys fight and roll around on the grass. But once they saw Dean get the upper hand and pinned Jess down with his knees. Dean started punching Jess over and over again with no mercy. They both took off to rush and break it up. “Ok, Yeah now.”
“What’s going on?” Y/n screamed once her and Rory pried the two boys apart, standing between them with their hands placed on their respective guy’s chests.
“He started it.” Dean pointed to Jess over Rory and Y/n’s heads. Face red from the fight and anger.
“Bullshit” Jess spit out his words with a shake of his head. He was pissed, he knows the guy hates him. But to put the blame of this all on him. That pissed Jess off. All he was doing was minding his own business, waiting for Y/n. Then Dean came up to him and tried to get him to fight. When that didn’t work, Dean started the fight himself. All about a girl that’s not even his.
“Let’s go Dean we have a test to study for.” Rory tugged on Dean’s jacket, trying to get the two boys separated even more. Like away from eachother in a couple miles radius.
Once Rory and Dean left, Y/n fully faced jess checking him for injuries. Jess sighed looking down while moving his hands to hold her hips. “I didn’t start it.”
“I believe you. I believe you.” Y/n smiled, Jess since they get together always made sure she knew if something was his fault or not. He was trying to be better. Y/n could see it. And she believed him.

Moving to a new town and starting your life at a new high school with only two years left before graduation was difficult. But moving into your sister’s town, and going to a school where her daughter was a former student, and everyone already knows who you are, is infinitely worse.
You supposed that being semi-close to Rory as kids was a good thing, because if it weren’t for knowing her and, by extension, knowing Lane, you’d be wandering these halls completely alone, and doubly more confused.
Dean and Lane were angels, helping you with every piece of much needed information on what teachers were good or bad, who to avoid at every chance, and where to not sit during lunch. They promised to do their best to help, but Lane’s mother was as strict as a dictator, and Dean often worked after school, so beyond sitting with them in the classes you happened to share, there wasn’t much they could do.
Still, Rory walked you to the doors before heading off to catch the bus to Chilton, taking extra care to make sure you were okay before leaving. It was nice, the relationship you had with her despite everything.
Lorelai wasn’t too happy that you were staying at theirs, but she understood why you had to leave your parents behind. Or, more realistically, why you were forced to walk out. It’s why she left them 17 years ago.
Despite the age gap between you and your sister, Lorelai was all too aware of why you were born. Of how your parents treated the both of you, and the fact that no child should’ve been raised under the Gilmore name. She was never really close with you, considering you were only a few months older than Rory, but you understood. No 16 year old should be raising a kid while her parents are raising a baby themselves.
But, she was kind enough to open her arms, and redecorate her spare bedroom, to fit you in. She got you a place at Stars Hollow High, settled you in with the townspeople, and did anything in her power to help.
However, there was no helping the bundle of anxiety in your chest as you headed from your locker to homeroom. The school was small, of course. Not small enough to have a graduating class size of under 70 kids, but small enough that people knew who was attached to your last name. Small enough for people to start asking questions.
Homeroom itself was fine. Lane and Dean had different homeroom classes, and people whispered when your name was called during attendance, but everything else was fine. The boy you sat next to seemed entirely unbothered by the environment around him, clutching a pen as he wrote in the margins of the book he carried - On The Road, by Jack Kerouac. Rory had lent the book to you not even two weeks ago, and you mentally appraised him for his literary taste.
Of course, you should’ve known that trouble would’ve found you not long after your first day.
Between second and third period, you’d been standing at your locker, supposedly the one Rory used to inhabit - and one you’d already decorated with stickers of bands and movie references - switching out your books when three girls approached you. You were already not prepared for any unexpected interactions, but these girls spelled trouble, just from the way they were all blonde, pretty and primped at 9am, in a small town high school. You expected it from the Chilton girls, sure, but not here.
“You’re Y/n Gilmore, right?” The one in the middle said, her mouth upturned in something like a grimace.
“Yeah, why?”
“Well we saw you during homeroom and we were wondering,” the girl on the left spoke, her gum popping annoyingly as she chewed on it. “If you’re, like, a Gilmore, does that make you Rory’s sister?”
“Yeah, we didn’t know Rory had a sister.”
“How come we’ve never seen you before? I mean, you both should’ve gone to the same school, right?”
“Oh, my God, are you not her sister? Or were you just like, in rehab or something?”
“Oh my God, are you a drug addict?”
The girls continued to chirp at you, and among themselves, endlessly thinking up possibilities of how you could be Rory’s sister and still not go to Stars Hollow High until now. You didn’t even know they had that much brain power, let alone that they could jump to that far of a conclusion so fast.
Suddenly, from behind you, someone spoke. “Why don’t you girls leave her alone, huh?”
They stopped, almost freakishly in sync, and grimaced at the person behind you.
“Seriously, Barbie, why don’t you go fix your makeup or something.” He scoffed, stepping up to stand beside you. “And honestly, if she was a tweaker, do you really think she’d even be allowed in the school?”
“I-”
“Just go away,” he complained, and the girl in the middle scoffed.
“Whatever, Jess. Just trying to get to know the new girl.” She rolled her eyes.
You didn’t stop yourself from looking at the trio in disbelief. “You sure have a funny way of doing it, then. Why don’t you make up rumours about someone else and leave me the hell out of it. Or have you gotten bored of doing it to everyone else?”
It was amusing, watching the shock make their jaws drop before they managed to saunter away. When you turned to look at the boy who helped save you from that awful experience, you found the person who sat next to you in homeroom.
“Thanks.”
“No problem,” he shrugged, a slight smirk playing on his lips, and you noticed that his hands were shoved in his front pockets. “Trust me, those girls do that to everyone. Y/n, right?”
“That’s me. And you’re Jess.”
“Yep.”
You stood silently for a few moments, staring awkwardly at one another. Just as you opened your mouth to speak, the warning bell rang, and the noise level around you picked up as students rushed to their next classes.
“See you around, Y/n.” And just like that, Jess disappeared into the crowd of students, leaving you to gather your things and head to calculus, one of the few classes you shared with Lane.

It’s been almost two months since you moved to Stars Hollow, and you found that adjusting was a lot easier than you first thought it would be. Despite having Lane and Dean at your side, you also seemed to be one of the lucky few to catch and retain Jess Mariano’s attention. He was, to everyone else, the loner who barely came to class and had no interest in being in the town in the first place; but he seemed to take a liking to you, the reason for which was still unknown to everyone but him.
He was quick to become your best friend, and the only person in town who you gave a detailed description of your family background to. Somehow, the rumours that the girls who forced you into conversation never made it outside of their circle, but at some point the truth about your relationship with the Gilmore girls was spread around town, as you assumed would happen at some point.
Still, no one minded that much, and found that your closeness to Rory and Lorelai meant that you were close to everyone in Stars Hollow. The welcoming warmth and sense of community was something that you had never felt in Hartford.
Jess, of course, found it annoying, but you liked to tease him about it, and you knew he meant well. No one else seemed to want to care about him like you did, like Luke did. Including Lorelai, who was less than pleased that you chose to befriend him out of all the other supposedly stand-up kids in town.
It wasn’t uncommon for you to have Jess over while Lorelai and Rory went to Hartford for Friday night dinners. In fact, it was what you had in mind for your plans as you watched the mother-daughter duo scramble around the house to get ready.
Rory was, as usual, ready to leave exceptionally early, and had bid you a cheerful goodbye as she headed out to the car to wait for her mom, who was marching her way down the stairs while struggling to put in earrings.
Lorelai caught sight of you on the couch, curled up and channel surfing, and smiled. “So, what are your plans for tonight? Partying hard, I hope. Remember my rule, no bikers and no drugs past 8pm.”
“Funny, Lorelai,” you smiled, craning your neck to look at her as she shoved items from the side table into her purse. “I’ll probably just order in and call Jess. He’s never doing anything on Fridays, and it’s better than being alone all night.”
Your sister paused in the hallway, fidgeting movements indicating that she was contemplating something.
“Can I ask you something?”
“Sure, what’s up?”
Lorelai turned fully, and took a few tentative steps toward you. Her iconic awkwardly polite smile stretched across her features, and you looked her up and down. “Why do you hang out with Jess so much? Sweetie, I mean, you’ve gotta see how bad of an influence he is.”
“He’s not a bad influence, Lor. If anything, I’m being a good influence on him.” You said, sitting up straighter, leaning on the arm of the couch to properly face your sister. “Besides, he’s nice. He just doesn’t like a lot of other people in town.”
“So you’re trying to tell me that he’s nice to everyone but you?”
“Yes, and I don’t exactly see what’s wrong with that.”
“Well, hon, I mean, don’t you think that maybe that’s a little, I dunno, odd?” Lorelai suggested, her fluster clearly underlining her tone.
You shrugged. “I don’t think so, no. He’s my best friend.”
“Yes, I know that, but-” Lorelai tapped her foot, trying to find the right words to say. “I think you’re spending too much time with him, Y/n, and I just think it’s gonna end up with you getting hurt somehow.”
“Hurt?” You scoffed. “Lorelai, how in the world would Jess be able to hurt me?”
Lorelai sighed, stepping closer to you. “I think you like him, Y/n. I think you have a crush on him, and I don’t think he likes you back. I just don’t want you to do anything and then end up being heartbroken and losing Jess as a friend.”
You? Having feelings for Jess? It was something you could barely wrap your mind around. Lorelai’s accusations, even if out of some sort of motherly-type concern, were out of line. There was no way you liked Jess like that, right? And besides, even if you did, she didn’t have the right to try to stop you from doing or not doing anything about it.
“Why are you so concerned about this all of a sudden?” You asked, furrowing your brow. “I mean, I’ve been hanging out with Jess one on one for a while, it’s not like all of a sudden I’ll catch feelings for him or something.”
“I understand that, but I’m saying that it seems like you caught feelings a while ago, Y/n.” Lorelai said, exasperation clear in the speed at which she was talking.
You resisted the urge to roll your eyes. Why won’t she just drop it? “I’ve got it handled, Lorelai, please, just leave it be and go to dinner. You’re gonna be late, and you know how much mom hates that. Especially when you’re late.”
Lorelai scoffed. “I have plenty of time before we have to go. Now will you please tell me why you have such an attitude about this? I’m just trying to look out for you. Jess isn’t good for you, and I just want to-”
“I get that Lorelai but I don’t need you to.” You snapped, swiftly getting to your feet. “I don’t need you to protect me, or look out for my best interest, or be motherly toward me. I get that you’re trying to make up for the fact that you couldn’t protect me as a kid and I ended up getting kicked out or whatever, but you’re not my mother.” Your blood was boiling. You didn’t know why, but it seemed that something within you just… snapped. “I don’t need you, Lorelai.” Your words pierced Lorelai’s heart with every bit of enunciation you placed on them.
“And it doesn’t matter what kind of influence Jess is on me, because our mother made sure to ruin me beforehand. You of all people should understand that.”
Lorelai stood, shocked at your outburst. She’d never seen more of herself in someone before, and still, she was heartbroken. Tears brimmed her eyes as she realized that, despite what you just said was more than likely teenage hormones kicking into gear, it was the truth. She tried, as hard as she could, to protect you as a kid. Harder than she tried to get herself out of that house. But she failed, because Rory came first, always. You didn’t need her anymore, not to raise or protect you.
“You’re right,” Lorelai nodded, clearing her throat before blinking away her tears. “You’re too grown up to need me anymore. I just… wanted to make sure you knew I cared. That I was worried. But you don’t need me, so go ahead and make whatever decisions you want to. It’s not on me.”
You watched Lorelai turn and walk out of the house, the door rattling the house as it swung shut. And suddenly, the silence pressed in on you, weighted with the realization of what you’d just done. Months of trying desperately to repair your relationship with Lorelai, of further building your relationship with Rory, only to have it torn down in seconds by your stupid teenage denial and anger.
The weight of your actions came crashing down, and soon you were sitting back on the couch, sobbing into your hands.
You don’t know how long you spent stuck in that spot until the house rattled again, and Jess was calling out to you, telling you what he forced Luke to make for the both of you to eat during your hangout tonight.
Jess barely heard you crying on the couch until the food was on the table and he turned to find you there, back to him, curled into yourself as you sobbed. His voice faded instantly, his legs making long, quick strides in order to reach you as fast as he could. Jess’ mind was a flurry of confusion and worry - you sounded fine when he called you an hour ago.
As soon as you were within reach, Jess’ hand gripped your shoulder, refusing to let himself lose the grasp he had on you even after he manoeuvred himself to sit next to you. He shuffled as close as he could get, and it was those movements that forced your head up from where it rested on your knees, enclosed by your arms wrapping around your legs.
“Hey,” he said, trying his best to soothe you, but Jess wasn’t one to do that sort of thing often. “What’s wrong?”
“I am,” you croaked, followed by a sniffle and a shaking breath. “I’m so stupid, Jess.”
Jess’ hand moved down your shoulder, until it squeezed your forearm comfortingly. “No, you’re not. And you’re obviously not okay. Tell me what happened.”
As soon as the words left his mouth, you shook your head. Telling Jess that you argued with Lorelai over him would just make things worse with her, and telling him it was about your feelings for him would ruin things altogether.
“I can’t.” You said quietly. “It’s nothing you need to worry about, okay, Jess? I was just stupid and it’s my fault, I don’t wanna drag you into this.”
“No, I do have to worry about it, Y/n.” Jess said, his words firm. You could see his brows furrowing, eyes darkening. His emotions were brewing, and you knew you wouldn’t be able to stop it. “You’re my best friend. Hell, you’re my only friend, and I don’t know how you managed to do it, but I care about you. I actually care about someone for once in my life, and it’s you. So tell me what happened, drag me into it, because I… I care.”
You couldn’t help but chuckle a little bit. Sniffling once again, you moved yourself to wipe some tears from your cheeks and put your hand on top of the hand Jess laid on your forearm. You stared at your hands and soaked in his warmth as you spoke. “It was Lorelai, we fought and-”
“Of course it was,” Jess scoffed.
You rolled your eyes. “Jess, just let me-”
“No, she always has something to say about- about everything.” He said.
“Let me finish, please.” When Jess didn’t speak again, you continued. “I told her you and I were gonna hang out for the night and she sort of… well, she mentioned a few things and I got angry and we fought. I was an idiot and I yelled at her for trying to be my mother because she didn’t protect me as a kid and it just… it was a disaster.”
Jess scoffed again, pulling his hand back and scrubbing his face, leaning into the couch. “Of course, she had to say something about you being with me. What, does she think we’re gonna rob a bank as a fun casual activity? I mean, seriously, she’s had it out for me since day one.”
You leaned forward, re-initiating the touch by resting your arm on his shoulder, your hand just barely grazing the back of his neck. “She doesn’t think we’re good for each other. At all. But she’s wrong, I know she is.”
“Me too,” Jess sighed, looking over at you.
The silence that filled the space between you, and your stomach was churning. Lorelai’s words came back to you, and as much as you didn’t want her in your head right now, you knew, deep down, that what she’d said about your feelings for Jess were true.
Before you could stop yourself, you pulled away and the words came tumbling out, awkward and choppy and full of anxiety. “She was right about one thing, though.”
Again, Jess scoffed an almost playful smirk lifting the corners of his lips. “Oh yeah, and what was that?”
“That I… have feelings for you.” You said, following it with an awkward and bashful smile. It was now or never, you supposed. “I mean, I didn’t even realize it until just now so don’t yell at me for keeping it a secret or something but she is right. You’re the only other person besides her and Rory and Luke that I care about and even then I care more about you than them and all I almost ever think or talk about is you and it sucks and I don’t want to keep it to myself. If you don’t want to be friends anymore I understand because it’s weird to have a friend who has feelings for you, trust me, so you can just leave now if you want-”
Jess’ lips crashing onto your own cut off the breathless ramble you had found yourself in. Your brain nearly completely shut down, complete peace silencing all the anxious thoughts in your head as you closed your eyes. By the time you registered that you needed to kiss back, Jess was pulling away, but you refused to let the moment end. He barely made it inches away before you were chasing his lips, placing a hand on his jaw to guide him back to you.
The kiss was simple, but it was as if it sparked something within you, and every nerve in your body felt the emotion within you. You never imagined you’d be kissing a guy like Jess. Hell, you never imagined you’d find someone like him, someone so damn near perfect for you, in your lifetime. But you did, and he was kissing you, and you couldn’t give a damn about what anyone else would think when they found out. Because right now, it was just you and Jess, and no one else knew, and things were almost perfect, and that was what was important.
You’d fix things with Lorelai tomorrow, and you weren’t sure you’d ever truly fix things with your parents; one day you’d try, just not yet. But for right now, all that mattered was yourself and Jess.
