QU YUAN, HOUYI . SINGULARITY : THE BEAST FĒILIÁN.
ability-derived life-form created in a lab in guangzhou, china. gravity manipulator and host of the singularity beast, feilian. keeper of balance under the guidance of the ministry. he/him. 25. 5ft9inches.
⁽ ¹ ⁾ fēilián ( 飛廉 ) : god of the wind, a winged dragon with the head of a deer and the tail of a snake. from the southern tradition, first attested in the influential poem li sao by qu yuan, wherein feilian assists the poet in part of their mystical journey. in later readings feilian is known as the wind deity fengbo, who carries the wind with him in a bag and causes trouble. fengbo in this reading is kept in check by houyi ( 后羿 ), the heavenly archer.
⁽ ² ⁾ in keeping with the theme that two other ability-derived beings we know of in this world, chuuya and verlaine are both gravity manipulators, the idea goes that in cloning individuals and installing within them their unique singularity beast, gravity manipulation is the easiest ability to replicate into their written code and implement into different bodies, and perhaps the easiest for said clones to adapt to. though it is still not the only possibility.
⸺ HOUYI . hòu ( 后 , monarch ) yì ( 羿, a character unique to the name within the mythos )
houyi is male, 25. standing at 5ft9inches, with long black hair that he keeps tied into a ponytail with parted bangs and framing pieces. he possesses a beauty mark on the left side of his nose on the bridge of it, and has blue eyes. he is easily humoured with a natural curiosity for the world around him, mimics other's habits in an attempt to find ones he likes. he does not easily feel morally connotated emotions such as sadness, guilt and grief, but is hot-headed and scathing on opportunity.
houyi is an ability-derived life-form created by a chinese scientist under the name of nüwa within a lab in guangzhou, china. subject to his creation he was firstly known simply as no.14 before he named himself houyi upon venturing out into the world under the guidance of the ministry.
the ministry exist as an elite selection of china's best researchers and military personnel. within its science division nüwa and her team were tasked with researching cloning and the implementation of singularity beasts within such individuals, similar to the scientific advancements in both japan and france.
similar to the hunting dogs, houyi is used by the ministry to keep balance within society and heads a team of operatives alongside his partner, who was created within the same laboratory. this means taking out corrupt officials under order and investigating those of criminal interest. the field of scope for this is worldwide. similarly still to paul verlaine, houyi also assassinates those named on his roster, without much regard for their morality or standing. a sort of not my job kind of agreement. though it is mostly limited to those with significant criminal interest or intent. houyi and his team are also responsible for sourcing subjects.
houyi is aware that he is not his own original being. five years ago, upon learning this fact from nüwa, houyi went on a blind rampage and destroyed the machinery keeping qu yuan, his “original” alive and thus killing him. nüwa delivered that information to him to see how he would react and to measure the consequences of his emotions. since that day, houyi, in a deranged sense of individuality and self, claims himself as his own original as there is no other, despite the property tag that sits inked into his skin at the bottom of his ribcage and his lack of memory before the age of 13.
houyi is an exploration of human emotion and action. often he doesn't understand and questions if the things he does are on impulse, or because he's been told he should feel a certain way, do a certain thing in the marrow of his genetic coding. things like anger, sadness, love, he's unsure if he's truly capable of feeling them if they are emotions which can be so easily rewritten or dialled back by removing a few lines of his coded make-up. he's a study on morality and the call to action, he wonders if, without being what he is, what exactly he would amount to if he truly was his original self.
before engaging in any type of confrontation, he has the habit of rolling his cuff sleeves up twice. he “smokes”, which is to say that he lights cigarettes and holds them between his fingers, because it's something he's seen so many others do. a “human” thing.
GRAVITY MANIPULATION & THE SINGULARITY BEAST FEILIAN.
in line with other ability-derived beings, to call upon his singularity beast and open his gate houyi must recite the following, an excerpt from li sao, “ encountering sorrow ”.
the world is dark, and envious of my grace; they veil my virtue and the evil blessing. thy chamber dark lies in recesses deep, sagacious prince, risest thou not from slumber? my zeal unknown the prince would not descry; how could i bear this harsh eternity?
like chuuya and verlaine, houyi possesses a base status if opening his gate that he refers to as eternity, taken directly from the excerpt he must speak from to activate it. in this state he can tap into feilian's singular abilities, but he is unconscious and therefore does not possess the ability to think through his actions, and acts mindlessly on situational dependence. in this state, lighter green tendrils form over his skin, though somewhat liquid in their form, rounded at the edges and ever-flowing and changing in their shape and direction.
once houyi opens his gate completely and not at its basis stage of eternity, the singularity beast feilian manifests as a large chimeric being of deep green, a dragon with the head of a deer and the tail of a snake, it is not made of physical matter and does not possess organs at which to strike, but houyi exists at its core, and can be seen within its translucent “skin”. inside of feilian, houyi remains an unconscious host, being that he is designed to contain feilian and not to control it.
in line with houyi's gravity manipulation, when manifested feilian holds the ability to create gravitational spheres and annihilate terrain until nothing exists within its path. as the god of wind, feilian can create razor-sharp currents of air, explosions of hyper-pressurised air, and emit a sonic scream by manipulating sound waves, amongst other abilities. as feilian does not possess a voice of its own as an intangible being, if it speaks it has houyi's voice, though it is a distorted mimicry.
feilian as a singularity beast possesses the innate need and want for freedom and despises being held captive, and so upon release will do anything in its power to stay outside of houyi's body, though it does not want to kill its host, as it will cease to exist.
unlike other ability-derived beings such as paul verlaine, houyi does not have the sequence implemented that he needs to be touched in order to close his gate. instead, each of the operatives under his command are entrusted with a special bullet made from scientifically converted metals that when fired into the centre of feilian's organless form, thus hitting houyi, will implement a termination sequence and close his gate, sealing feilian back inside his body. alternatively, and only within his base status he need only hear the words, but swift was the sun and it soon would be dusk, a single line from encountering sorrow that will return him to his normal state.
within the nature of his role under the guidance of the ministry, houyi and his counterpart are implemented with a coded sequence in which their bodies will start to naturally decay without a back-up sequence, that can be accessed remotely both at the lab and outside of it via a modified computer. as such, houyi and his counterpart have a third, essential associate junfeng whom, if they are not close to the lab, can implement this code for them to keep them stable. that is their only role within the team. this must be done every two months, and without it their bodies will wither from the inside slowly and painfully, a consequence of possible, true individuality and betrayal.

I'm just going to tack that on. (<- It doesn't truly matter seeing as no one can differentiate us or call us by our names, but just to put it on the record.)
#i think its a lovely name Houyi!! :> <33#thank you Juliet. i'm. not sure about it yet. i'm indifferent to each of my names. none of them bring me euphoria in particular.#this one is meaningful in its lore but it doesn't sound phonetically fitting to my tastes. i don't know what would be fitting though.#well. we'll figure it out eventually.#🏹#💓

Yay, Houyi's alive like I hoped!
...But he arrives right after Xingyin wishes knowing her father and with villain releaved to be shapeshifter, that's super suspicious. :/
..But there's a lot of lore he gives, if it were a ruse, I feel he wouldn't talk that much, lying to the reader, "giving useless information". 🤔

BASICS
Name: Taiyi Age: ??? [ Estimated to be more than 500+ years old but looks to be 22 ] Species: human // immortal Ethnicity: Chinese Orientation: ?? Occupation: pastry chef

PERSONALITY
TAIYI TAKES after his mother, benevolent and soft spoken…A friendly and open minded boy, he is kind and generous to everyone, no matter if it’s friend or stranger. Calm and patient with everyone, he is often described as a boy with a golden heart, always willing to give pieces of himself away without asking anything in return. He is loving and caring, a gentle soul who tries his best in life. He is very sensitive and emotional who’s seen more often crying than yelling when met at emotional extremes.
HOWEVER, DESPITE his warm outlook in life, when night fall comes and the moon is clear in the sky, he is often spotted with a lonely look in his eyes. A pained and longing expression as he looks towards the moon, yet when asked, he refuses to speak as to why he looked so upset. Taiyi hates to burden other people with his problems so he locks it away in his heart. He does suffer bouts of depression where he feels completely incapable of doing anything and confines himself to his bed.
THE STORY
BORN OF the flesh and blood of Chang’e (the Goddess of the Moon) and Houyi (the malevolent emperor who shot down the nine suns), Taiyi was given his life after his mother had consumed the Elixir of Immortality that was given to his father as a reward for saving humanity from the ten suns in the sky.
THE LORE goes that Houyi was tasked by the Gods with the mission of saving humanity from dying by killing the ten suns that dwelled in the sky. Upon the accomplishment of his task, he was awarded with two bottles of the Elixir of Immortality (one for him and one for his wife) but he had made the mistake of not consuming the Elixirs immediately with his wife and left it unguarded when he was tasked with another mission. Chang’e was left alone with both bottles and without means of guarding the potent medicines.
FENGMENG, A man who was jealous of Houyi’s feat, came to Chang’e demanding the Elixirs to be handed over, to which the female had denied. In order to deter the villain from getting his hands on something so precious, she drank both bottles in hopes of the medicine not landing in the wrong hands…However, underestimating the potency, Chang’e was indeed given immortal life but having consumed too much, the magical properties of potions had lifted her body to the sky.
HOUYI RETURNS home to the news of his wife’s departure and was immediately saddened by the events that transpired. Upset that this had happened and that his wife was now alone on the moon, he would place sweets and fruits as offering to her in the sky at night and spoke to her…But soon, his feelings turned from sadness to bitterness towards his wife for having done what she did. He blamed her for not protecting the Elixir as best she could, for not finding another way where she didn’t have to consume the potion.
HIS HEROICS in his early life earned him a place in society as an Emperor but his bitterness towards his wife had made him a malevolent tyrant. He stopped placing offerings to his wife, refused to speak of her passing. He wished her a life of loneliness and isolation.
UNBEKNOWNST TO Houyi, when Chang’e had consumed both bottles of the Elixir and ascended to the sky, she was carrying his son. Carrying the child for 9 months before giving birth to the boy, she named him Taiyi in remembrance of his father’s feat of shooting down the nine suns and she had hopes that her son would grow to be as great an archer as his father was. Taiyi grew up to the age of 10 without being discovered by his father.
TAIYI WAS supposed born of a human father and immortal mother but due to the potency of the Elixir his mother had ingested and having been born from her flesh and blood, Taiyi was gifted with immortality...Almost as if he was meant to accompany his mother into eternity in bliss on the moon.
HOWEVER, THAT was not the case when Houyi discovered the birth of his son from a messenger of a God. Angered at the fact that Chang’e had company when he had wished her a life of isolation, he plead to the Gods above to bring his son down to Earth under the ploy that Chang’e already has a companion (the Jade Rabbit) on the moon while he was alone on Earth, without wife or heir, and the Gods took pity to Houyi and as a way to thank him for his services to them, they removed Taiyi from his mother’s custody and placed him on Earth to live with his father.
TAIYI LEFT willingly, promising to return as soon as he can, but his father seemed to have another plan for his son. Houyi had greeted Taiyi with warmth upon their meeting and though he had intent of raising his son, he saw too much of Chang’e in the 11 year old boy and enraged by seeing a splitting image of his traitorous wife, he imprisoned Taiyi in a room with only a small window, cutting off all human contact to the poor boy. It was as if Houyi was trying to punish his wife on Earth as well as on the moon.
TAIYI SPENDS most of his life in isolation, his only companions being the birds and animals that approached his window. He spends his nights awake and speaking to the moon, speaking to his mother (though he has no idea if she can hear him). His only human contact is through the door when the servants bring him food or when he’s watching people from a distance. An obedient boy, he prayed for a day that his father would come back and release him from his confines, he believed in the good in his father yet the day never came….
GROWING TIRED and fearful of his isolation, he began to beg the servants that came to give him his food and water to set him free but that fell on deaf ears…He begged loudly for his father and even to his mother to save him. Begging and pleading from the immortal only landed on apathetic ears so Taiyi gathered his courage to figure out how to get out of the room through the small skylight. He could not fly like his mother, his powers limited solely to a prolonged life and speedy regeneration, he only had items in the room to assist his escape.
STACKING FURNITURE and whatever else he could find that would give him height, Taiyi climbed the tower of items towards the skylight. The tower stood precariously in balance, any wrong move would cause massive injuries to him and draw attention to his escape…But perhaps Lady Luck took pity on the poor boy and helped him through the window and onto the roof. Free! He was free!!
TAIYI CREPT along the roof, trying to find an exit out of the palace…But in that moment, Lady Luck left his side as he stumbled upon an archery challenge…Fengmeng (now Houyi’s apprentice) had challenged Houyi to an archery competition to see who was better. Though none of the competing parties had spotted the runaway, it wasn’t until Fengmeng’s stray arrow struck Taiyi in the back that caused him to draw attention towards his presence. Crying out in pain, Taiyi’s foot slipped on the tile rooftop, causing him to come crashing down to the ground below.
INJURED EVEN further, Taiyi knew he was doomed to be sent back to his prison but this time with more restraints…Yet, it seemed like the Gods took pity on the boy by sending a curious servant child that innocently led Taiyi towards the servant entrance…His escape route!! Stumbling through the doors, he knew he should run but he turned to gently grasp the hands of the child and promised that he’ll thank them properly one day, giving them his jade ring as a deposit on his promise, before disappearing into the woods.
PRESENT TIME
TAIYI CURRENTLY resides in Seoul, South Korea as a baker, having opened his own sweets shop that seemingly is quite popular with the females in the area. His youthful appearance and bright personality is what attracts his many customers, the specialty of the shop being his moon cakes that are of different flavors. His shop is filled with not only Chinese sweets but also fusion sweets from around the world.
THE PROMISE he made so many years ago, he still remembers and is still looking for the child’s descendants to repay them for their help and kindness…He owes them his life, for having set him free and saved him from a life of imprisonment.
ABILITIES
Regeneration: any injury comes recovery, depending on how badly he is injured, the length of time he takes to heal differs but he heals nonetheless unless it is a fatal injury to his heart or head.
Immortality: living a youthful life, Taiyi has long stopped aging when he hit the age that his mother was when she consumed the Elixirs (age 24).
Languages: Having traveled the world, Taiyi is fluent in English, Korean, Japanese, Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin), French and Italian.
Baking: a skilled pastry chef, having learned his skills in France and Italy, he applied those skills to Chinese sweets and creates fusion desserts
Zoolingualism: he is able to speak with animals…sort of, this ability only seems to work with birds and rabbits more so than any other species. He’s tried with dogs and others but the success rate is pretty low
Archery: like his father, he is a proficient archer, his marksmanship is quite excellent but this is only limited to the bow and arrow
FEARS
Autophobia: the fear of being alone or isolated stemmed from his childhood days where he was locked in a room by his father. He counters this by surrounding himself with pets and doing a job where he would have constant contact with people
Claustrophobia: also stemming from being locked in a room though recovering from the trauma, Taiyi hates closed doors…He will always sleep with his room door open (or ajar) for sake of letting feel at ease that he can leave at any time
OTHER
- His shop is called the Jade Rabbit Patisserie
- He has a small temple in the shop that is dedicated to his mother
- He still speaks with his mother, a secret spot in the meadow near his shop.
- He takes after his mother in appearance more than his father so sometimes is mistaken as a female
- On the day of his escape, the place where he was struck by Fengmeng’s arrow aches and during days of rain and storm, his entire body hurts in remembrance of his tumultuous escape
- He fears being lonely and fears being alone for the rest of his life but with the way he is, he tries to distance himself away from being too close with anyone as he knows they are fleeting.
- He has several rabbits as pets
- His favorite flower is the Moon Flower
- Has quite the fortune but lives a humble life, he donates money to charities and to those who needs it; the only two things he’s spent a great amount of money on is his current penthouse that gives him a clear view of the night sky (aka the moon) and the patisserie.
- A pacifist, he hates fights…Physical or verbal
- Misses his mother like no tomorrow…sometimes can be found crying when he’s looking at the shrine he’s made to his mother or to the moon

He does suffer bouts of depression where he feels completely incapable of doing anything and confines himself to his bed.

⁽ ⁴ ⁾ A NOTE REGARDING SHIPPING. shipping is not my main priority on this blog, and i much prefer to also explore other relationships that can be forged between characters. some of my characters are not open for shipping be it i have an exclusive writing partner, or their character does not allow for it, and this will always be discussed during plotting.
