Chapter 2 —The Wu Shi Academy

You have been here alongside Raiden and Kung Lao for two days now. Things haven't been looking great for you. The two males have already settled in and were getting used to the strict schedules and rigorous training. However, for you, the situation was different. You were not as skilled a fighter as the Lin Kuei or the two males you grew up with. While you were capable of defending yourself in necessary situations, this rigorous training was proving to be a challenge beyond your expectations. You couldn’t help but wonder whether Madam Bo made the right decision in pushing you towards this path.

“You're timid! You're not a sheep; you're a dragon. Be a dragon." She firmly told you after explaining that Wu Shi Academy, or being Lord Liu Kang's champion, will awaken the dragon within you. She had always told you that there was fire burning inside you.

The monks were relentless and diligent in their training. Despite not holding back, they never acted below or above your skill level and always managed to knock you to the ground, with fresh bruises marking your skin each time. Right now, you were sitting under a nearby tree, after long day of intense training, on the training grounds. As the sun began to set beyond the horizon, stars were slowly appearing on the darkening sky, signaling the approach of evening. You massaged your sore left shoulder, seeking some relief from the tension. The quiet calmness of the evening washed over you.

"How is your training with the monks proceeding?" a familiar voice interrupts the harmony of cicadas. "Ah, Lord Liu Kang," you respond, swiftly rising to greet him, despite the soreness enveloping your body. He smiled and approached to take a seat beside you.

"It appears that the training is progressing smoothly," he remarked, taking in your appearance. Your dark hair is slightly unkempt and covered in dust and dirt, your uniform isn't spared from the effects of the training either. You chuckle nervously and respond, "The training is quite intense, but there's a sense of accomplishment in it, I suppose." Your words are careful, attempting to maintain propriety. He smiles with pride, "as it should be.”

There was a small silence between you two, a comforting one, as his warmth brought you a sense of ease. Was this an effect of being a god of fire? Being the embodiment of a heater? It was truly comforting.

Lord Liu Kang broke the silence as he stood up. "Two new champions have arrived. You should clean up and greet them," he said. You looked at him curiously and nodded in agreement.

Before departing, he turns to you with an assuring tone, saying, "You don't have to hide yourself here."

You respond with a puzzled expression, "What do you mean, Lord Liu Kang?"

He smiles knowingly and responded with a gentle, “You know what I mean." The surprise on your face is evident as he addresses you directly. He points towards his hair as to clear up the message.

Oh. Is this the ability of a god?

“Thank you, Lord Liu Kang.”

You silently express gratitude to Madam Bo for always using for temporary dyes when dyeing your hair. Initially, you genuinely disliked the idea of permanently dyeing your hair black, as it made you feel like an impersonator. However, whenever you caught a glimpse of your silver hair, it brought a sense of joy. After all, your hair has always been a significant part of your identity. The only downside is that you have to dye your hair every 2 weeks, a task that you surprisingly didn’t mind.

All the champions lived in one spacious temple-house. Kung Lao and Raiden, as well as the two newcomers (whom you haven't met yet but heard the commotion of moving in), shared a large bedroom. Since you're the only woman among the champions, you were provided with extra privacy and your own room, along with a private bathroom. All the champions had access to one shared kitchen. Everything in the temple-house was traditionally designed, with no electricity, running water, or modern gadgets. The walls, however, were quite thin, being a temple-house.

Upon entering your private bathroom, you ensure privacy by locked the sliding door. You carry two buckets of warm water to the simple yet functional bathroom in your quarters. The bathroom features a wooden circular bathtub with pebbles beneath it for water absorption when you drained the bathtub. Everything else in the bathroom were made of wood and marble, and you were thankful for the academy's drainage system, it made your living conditions more easy.

With a little sigh, you prepare yourself for war of having ‘everything’ shower.

As you sat on the edge of the bathtub, a sense of relief washed over you with the thought, "The war is over." You stared at your reflection in the mirror hanging across the bathtub, taking note of your silver-white hair that brought out your violet eyes. The sight also brought your attention to the prominent blue and purple bruises that adorned your smooth skin, especially across your back. You also observed the scratches on the palms of your hands, reminders of the many times you had landed on the ground, along with some stubborn dirt particles that had embedded themselves into the scratches.

After a long shower, you take a clean towel and dry your body. Once you've finished, you slip into your loose and comfortable cotton nightgown, relishing in the feeling of freedom and comfort it provides for sleeping. The sensation of the light fabric against your skin was satisfying.

The temple-house was lit by lanterns, and everyone had the responsibility of taking turns to care for and turn off or on the candles. Knowing it was late, you observed that the commotion from the next room had died, which made you conclude that it would be best to meet the newcomers the next morning instead.

Among the three lanterns in your room, you decided to only keep one lit dimly by your bedside. Your gaze fell upon your bed, which provided a sense of relief. Though it did feel accomplishing at the end of the day, there was a sense of dread at the thought of more rigorous training to come the next day, which you knew you had to endure.

Just as you were about to settle into your bed for some much-needed rest, a rampant knock on your poor sliding door interrupted your peaceful moment. It was Kung Lao, calling out your name enthusiastically, his voice almost reaching the level of the chefs at Madam Bo's restaurant. Letting out a mental goodbye to your bed, you sighed and opened the door to find it was only Kung Lao standing there.

As Kung Lao's grinning face abruptly shifted to an expression of shock and disbelief, his mouth fell open in surprise. "What – what happened to your hair!?" he exclaimed, to which you quickly responded by shutting his mouth with a firm pinch and pulling him into your room. His wide eyes remained fixated on you, his gaze particularly drawn to your hair. In that moment, you realized that Kung Lao and Raiden had never seen your natural hair before.

"Firstly, stop yelling!", you whisper-hiss, tightening your grip slightly on Kung Lao's mouth. He nods in agreement, signaling his understanding. With a brief explanation, you reveal, "This is my natural hair." Kung Lao was clearly stunned, finding it hard to believe. "No way! This white hair is natural?" He initially denied it. You exhale, pulling out a single strand of hair from your scalp and showing him. "See? The root is white!" you point out, convincing him. Intrigued, he takes the strand and examines it closely, finally exclaiming, "Holy shit... you might be right.”

Kung Lao looks at you, his eyes narrowing as he processes the information. "How come you never told me? And does Raiden know?" he inquired. You shake your head, replying, "You're the first one to find out." Kung Lao responded with a nod, his grin widening as he adds, "He is going to be shocked." he wore a proud grin, but at the same time, deep down, he was secretly glad to be the first one to know this surprise fact about you. In that moment, Kung Lao realized how purple your eyes were, almost like amethyst.

“I will explain everything to you both, when the time is right. Let’s go meet the two newbies?” You say, gesturing towards the exit to your room.

Kung Lao, with a determined attitude, "They are interesting people" He eagerly grabbed your arm and pulled you along, allowing you to quickly put on your robe, which matched your nightgown.

The hallways of the temple-house were illuminated by lanterns, but with the moon shining so brilliantly, it seemed almost unnecessary. You were at their room in no time.

Your guess was proven to be accurate as Raiden's reaction mirrored your expectations - wide-eyed and slightly nervous smiles. You settled into a comfortable position between Kung Lao and Raiden, forming a circle with the new arrivals. Exchanging quick greetings and introductions, you briefly mention your name to the newbie champions.

The brunette-haired man leaned forward as if trying to get a better look, a pair of shades tucked into his button-up shirt. He asks curiously, "So, are you like Thranduil's wife or something?" Caught slightly off guard, you respond with a nervous smile and say, "Ah, no.." You begin to realize that maybe Madam Bo's claim about your looks were correct; it certainly seemed to spark a good deal of curiosity.

The same curious man continued his line of questioning, raising another question that could be perceived as slightly rude. "Is this really natural? I mean no offense," he quickly added. Feeling a bit awkward, you nod and respond with a simple "yep." The other men (mainly Kung Lao and Raiden) send him subtle looks, silently signaling him to watch his manners and phrasing.

You quickly switched the conversation around. With a smile, "Well! Enough about me... How about we talk about you two?"

The brunette man cocked a confident smile and folded his arms. With a charming tone, he introduces himself, "I'm surprised you don't know about me. I'm Johnny Cage, the best Hollywood actor and all-around badass, sweetheart. Nice to meet you." He adds an extra dose of charm to his words. In response, you simply smile politely and nod, maintaining a composed demeanor.

The other man, who had been silently observing you, grunts at Johnny's behavior but keeps his voice steady and calm. He says firmly introduced himself with, “Kenshi Takahashi”

Kenshi, being a rather composed individual, refrained from delving into his curiosity about you like Johnny. After witnessing a literal god, a pyromancer, and a cryomancer, he had become accustomed to it.

You smile with welcoming nature. "Since we'll be training together, I hope we'll have the opportunity to learn more about each other in the days to come," you say, hint of exhaustion.

“Oh, I’m hoping on that, sweetheart” Johnny says eagerly. You sigh as Kung Lao rolls his eyes.

Raiden, noticing your drained appearance, gently interjects into the conversation, stating, "I believe it's quite late. We have training scheduled for 6 AM. I'm sure both of you have had a tiring journey as well. Perhaps we should all rest for the night." You silently thank Raiden for his timely intervention.

You quickly bid the them goodnight.

That night, you wondered if you had made the right choice.

You groan with exhaustion as you plop down on the ground, beaten once again by the monks. Beads of sweat form on your forehead, causing your silver hair to stick to your face, while your cheeks flushed.

"That was the longest sparring session I've ever witnessed, sweetheart" Johnny commented, observing the next sparring session with Kung Lao against the monks while stealing glances at you. You wipe the sweat from your forehead with the sleeves of your orange uniform and reply, “Thank you..?” Little unsure.

"Why don't you fight back?" Kenshi asked, his arms now folded across his chest. "From what I've seen, you excel at blocking and dodging, but you're not countering or striking back." He gave his perspective as you looked at him and shrugged, replying, "I do not know.”

In truth, you have always had a tendency not to strike your opponents directly, but instead, tire them out. The only time you didn't hold back was when Tomas ‘hurt’ Madam Bo. Perhaps you only needed a valid reason to respond in kind. After all, you have never been fond of violence.

"Don't worry, there's always room for improvement," Raiden reassured as he handed you a cold towel soaked in medicinal herbs water. He was always so kind and humble, taking care of those around him with a sense of warmth and compassion. You can't help but feel a sense of calmness as you press the towel against your flushed cheeks and neck.

The training went smoothly from there and ended early for today. However, Kenshi and Johnny had more lectures to join in order to learn about the history of the tournament and other realms, just like you, Raiden, and Kung Lao did when you three first arrived at the Wu Shi Academy.

Oh! And the monks allowed you to train with your own personal favorite weapon! Bow and arrow!

🌟 I can see him really liking storytime, but acting out storytime (especially if he gets to pretend to be a dragon for whatever reason)

🌟 He's not very good at acting the parts, but he always gets you to giggle and clap your hands happily, so its always fun in the end

The mission to uncover the Black Dragon's reasons in being in Outworld went sour very quickly. That is something no one should be saying, especially as skilled as Bi Han.

The plan (after Bi Han reluctantly asked his brothers to relay it to him) was to rendezvous at a warehouse with Umgadi and Sun Do police in tow. The Black Dragon had a meeting in said warehouse, and the reason you guys were jumping him was because of a mole.

Well, the mole was a double agent, and the rendezvous point became an ambush. With twice the amount of Black Dragon, Umgadi and Sun Do forces were overwhelmed fast, and downed faster.

It left you all no choice but to split up, praying to any higher being for safe travels and a hopeful return.

You got paired with Bi Han in the midst of the chaos, and the Grandmaster sustained serious injuries in his leg and abdomen area. A semi-deep scar in his abdomen and a stab wound in his thigh. You had carried him from the scene, finally resting in an abandoned shack in the outskirts of the city.

"Unhand me!" you growls, hands hovering his wounds and emitting a soft glow of blue. His powers are at a minimum, and it looks like the cooling he's providing to his leg is working.

He hisses at the chill, then relaxes. You quirk a brow at him, and he scowls behind his mask (the giveaway was how downturned his brows were).

"I need a bandage of sorts," Bi Han commands you. "Anything will do." You cross your arms, denying his request.

"'Anything'," you gently mock with air quotes, "Will give you an infection. A rip from my shirt is fine." Bi Han stops you by grabbing your hand.

"You will do nothing of the sort," his gruff voice echoes from behind his mask. "Keep yourself respectable."

Stay clothed is what he said. Defiantly, you rip your hem wide and clean, supplying him with a decent bandage until backup came. It's a game of push and pull for you two before he concedes, allowing you to wrap around his waist.

Well-built, wonderfully toned waist.

But the danger isn't over yet, and you put the dream on the back burner. You can hear voices echo past the shack, the faintest cries and commands from a hoard of voices. Your eyes narrow, and you begin to ready yourself for the biggest defensive play of your life.

"You cannot do this alone," Bi Han huffs, shakily getting up (and failing). He stumbles a bit, back hitting the creaky wood before you catch his arm. You throw it over your shoulder before helping him sit down.

"Just sit tight, grandmaster," you tell him with an assured smile. "Leave it to me. All you need to do is breathe quieter and no one will hear you."

Bi Han scoffs, and you walk out the shack door to begin your stalking of the Black Dragon members after you.

It should be noted that this abandoned shack has been weathered and beaten by mother nature. Some planks of wood have expanded, leaving a couple holes and places of vulnerability for enemies.

There's also a couple of holes in the wood, most likely from termites that made their home here before.

Bi Han, as quietly and quickly as he can, shifts to a nearby hole in the wall. With nothing to do, and the wait for enemies being tedious, he might as well watch you to get an idea what he'll be facing.

Whatever goal he had in mind: counting enemies, devising an escape, healing, was gone as Bi Han watched you go berserk on the initiates of the evil clan.

You were covered in blood, your face littered with spatters of red around your nose, cheeks, and eyes. Your uniform, the pristine orange kept in a time-honored fashion, became even more ripped, and was covered in blood.

That usual smile on your face was gone, and your eyes remain in a state of neutrality as you bashed two head of some of the members together, their skin bruised and skulls busted wide open.

It's electrifying, but the shock lingers over the fact you have to kill someone just to survive. How the cycle of life and death seems to be fueled by the need to endure, the need to continue living.

Bi Han watches through the hole, how you easily rip someone's head and spine out of their skin, how you break a man's arm clean in a ninety-degree angle.

How you twist someone's head past the regular "snap" noise of death.

You clear these thugs out like a bull in a rodeo, hastily and messily. Still, it buys you two enough time before Bi Han hears the door rattling and some voices behind it.

"Breaking and entering!" an oddly energetic voice screeches, before the door splits into different pieces and splinters.

Johnny Cage, the illustrious actor, stands before Bi Han with an unamused look. He can't help but roll his eyes, but he stills comes to his side to pick him up carefully.

"Man, you look like hell," Johnny unceremoniously points out. "Did Cerberus take a bite out of you?" Bi Han hums lowly and angrily.

"Apologies, grandmaster," Kenshi apologizes for him. "He's.. dense."

As he's carried out, he finds you wiping sweat and blood off your face. Your orange uniform is doing a half-in-half-out look: where half of your shirt is still tucked in, and your upper portion is down and out of your arms.

Water is also getting poured all over you by Kung Lao, and you happily wash your face of all the dirt and germs from the lowlifes you just pummeled.

"Grandmaster!" you exclaim, waving and running up to him.

Bi Han bows, "You fight." You look at him with an incredulous look, but smile still as it is polite.

"Yes. I do. I would not be Lord Liu Kang's wing if I was not capable."

Bi Han nods, and you nod again before walking away and back to Kung Lao.

The scene cleans up well by itself. The Umgadi imprison the ring leader to be brought to trial, while the Sun Do police catch the lackeys for questions and info on more Black Dragon in the city.

You Earthrealmers finally go back home, and you accompany Bi Han to receive his treatment. The sterile infirmary, the only color being the red-dyed wood and the naturally deep brown wood, remained cold as you helped Bi Han with his bandages.

"You did... well," Bi Han reluctantly praises you. "But you are a monk- monk's do not fight like that..."

You chuckle before answering.

"I, uh, used to be part of the Black Dragon," you admit rather easily, still wrapping him with new wraps.

"I left a long time ago, when they were still in their growing phase. I didn't like it, hated the vileness and pure evil that sat in the room with those men," you grow quiet, disassociating as Bi Han patiently waits for the life to come back in your eyes.

"You've done well," Bi Han praises again, this time more thoroughly. "What you did back then, that is strength- loyalty is true strength."

You snap out of it, eyes meeting his for a bit before you look down and focus on wrapping him. The tips of your ears feel warm, though.

Something shifts in Bi Han's heart as he's left alone for the rest of the night. He has to stay in the infirmary for a couple more days, but that's enough time to think.

He didn't know you were built like that, but he'd like to see how far the limit goes with you.
