Look, there is no other answer for this XD Hajime initially looks plain, and in a way that looks only at how he looks like, he is. Short brown hair is common, and his design is rather plain,especially in comparison to all of the others who were Ultimate students. The only thing that made him look different was his ahoge (lol) and his pretty greenish yellowish eyes!

Now okay, a HUGE part of it is that, for whatever reason, physical appearance does little for me comoared to actual personality. Hinata... god Hinata has such an appealing personality! He isn't sacharine sweet and always good, or at least appears that way, like Naegi. He isn't always shy and never really standing up for himself like Saihara. Yes, I know there is WAY more to those characters, but this is based on the overall character feel.

Hinata feels real. While what he does because of his beliefs and emotions of that time is probably more extreme than what the average person would do, those feelings that brought him to that decision were relatable. When you want to believe you are better, and outwardly say so, but inside you're tearing yourself apart in insecurity... that's relatable.

And it wasn't just his character development, but his actions. While he draws a line of where he is unwilling to cross for his friends, he will still do what he can to help them. He will sass them, tease them, inwardly insults them, even, but he cares so much for his friends. That's what a lot of friendships are like, really XD

He's really sweet without it feeling fake, and he finds a way to not only move on from his own Despair, but help his friends move on from theirs. He's a leader with insecurities, and he is mostly capable of leadong the trials, with a few nudges here and there when needed. He makes stupid mistakes, some less serious than others, and he rises from them through his own power.

Oh man, I could gush on and on about why I fond Hajime so attractive XD It's a pretty much known fact that I do, though XD

Alright, so like Komaeda, this is weird XD

Kaito and Himiko are always at the top of my favorite characters list for V3... it is honestly hard for me tonchoose between them because while Himiko is the character type I always wanted (a girl magician/mage whonis smol and cute and sleepy!), her story and development in V3 was just.... not as solid as it really could have been. Whereas with Kaito, I absolutely did not know what to make of him other than he was either loved or hated by the community (ranked fairly low in those initial polls too), but then I played the game and fell in love with his character XD he had pretty good development considering jow horrible character development could be in V3 (though I give the game points for actually trying to give every character development and relevance in the story).

However, while his face is pretty handsome and his hair is cool, and I do like the star/galaxy print on the inside of his coat.... his uniform overall is kinda ugly XD

The main thing I like about Kaito is that he's a lot more complex than in first view. He was raised by his grandparents, and as a result says some pretty stupid stuff, maybe outdated as well. He is kind of an idiot, but I stand by the belief he knows more than he lets on. The reason he sticks close to Shuichi as opposed to Hoshi seems to be vecause he had Shuichi's motive video. He knows exactly what to say and when to say it for Shuichi to let go of his anxiety. While people jate that he takes all of Shuichi's credit, they fail to understand why he does it: Shuichi doesn't want to be the one who holds responsibility if things go wrong. Shuichi os even thankful for it, even if it is coming off egotistical lol. If Kaito wanted to steal Shuichi's glory, why wouldn't he have tried to do the same for Kaede? When she was berated by half the class after failing to get them through the false exit, he encouraged her instead of taking over, because that is what she needed, a way of knowing that even if she hurt her classmates that way, she was only doing what she thought was right and it was a mistake rather than an intention to harm.

I do think V3's writing is clunky in the failure to make things more clear, and especially refraining from possibly rubbing people the wrong way, and Kaito is one of those characters that people might really hate for the misogynistic things he says and being insensitive, but if he was written where it was clear that someone pointing out hiw wrong he was would make him change then I doubt we'd be having so much discourse.

Kaito is that "idiot hero" type that inspires people to do better, but by doing so feels the need to hide what bugs him. These idiot hero types are such soft spots for me XD My first fancrush was on a character like that, who realizes as the game progresses how his version of what a hero was had been wrong. Kaito gets that all at once near the end, and due to not knowing how to handle it (I am sure it was a lot of shame at himself for what could have happened), he shuts Shuichi out until there is not time. He comes back, springing back up with promises of working together again.

This is a very messy response, sorry XD what I am trying to say is that Kaito shows a willingness to change, and that shows such a strength in character when you admit to yourself you did wrong and try to rectify it.

Now as for if I find him attractive... I can't say that I do, but it's because I ship him so hard with Shuichi XD I am pretty sure lol. The way he smiles and says Shuchi's name? Ooooof, what a guy!! 💖💖 While I do ship him with Kaede a bit, it is his relationship with Shuichi that attracts me to him! And though he comes off egotistical, he really does mean well and wants the best for his friends.

Such a wish is hard to grant ^^;

(I guess the one thing we learned is that kindness for others is very much a turn on for me, huh? XD)

Katsucon 2017 Report!

So this was my first Katsucon -- my second convention overall -- and let me just tell you how much I loved it.

Friday I was Phichit from Yuri! On Ice. Saturday I was Lance from Voltron. Sunday I was Hinata from Haikyuu!!

I’ll break it down into things I remembered and loved, and things that I had problems with!

Positives!

The people we roomed with were -- for the most part -- a real pleasure to be around. They didn’t judge and were actually very kind about complimenting my first cosplay that I made -- granted, it was really only the jacket I made from scratch but they were so nice about it, giving me compliments and saying it looked good. ;; It made me feel really good that people thought my first cosplay was good and it gives me so confidence to keep going.

I would totally room with most of the people we roomed with for next year, and I hope that we made a good enough impression to be allowed back into the room next year, too! ; w ; Hopefully between now and then, I can work harder on making my cosplays better and getting better at make-up so I can show off more.

Most people were really sweet and kind to us and were more than ready to help us in the AA/DR and be patient with our requests. We had to wait a while for some AA booths but that’s expected considering that they had a lot of fanart for popular series! The artists as well as other con-goers were really patient and understanding when we had to leave booths or making way for us when we came to a new booth so it was really nice just having so many people be kind to us.

I really liked the Voltron shoot, too! It was just-- it was so nice being around so many people with the same interests and feeling a part of something, like-- not to quote the show, but feeling like I was a part of something bigger. Everyone was so kind, for the most part, and it was just fun being able to meet and adopt people into our group.

We adopted a Pidge or two and adopted them into our group (we were only missing Shiro, d’aw!) so it was really nice to meet them and they were such sweethearts and adorable that I’m glad we swapped handles so I could be friends with them. I can’t wait to be able to cosplay with them again, they really helped boost the fun!

The Voltron shoot was just so much fun in general and even if there were obvious disagreements (age, discourse) no one was disrespectful about it, at least not out-right. For a meet, the maturity of everyone was really good, so I’m really glad my first fan shoot went as well as it did. The rules were to keep it discourse free and I’m so glad that everyone stuck to that or I wouldn’t’ve enjoyed it like I did.Everyone was really mature and I’m so thankful that I didn’t feel self-confident at all.

(I’m still not over the time we did a cheerleading pyramid to actually ‘form Voltron’ where I shouted, “THIS ISN’T WHAT I MEANT WHEN I SAID I WAS A BOTTOM!” or something like that. Wait, I think it was, “THIS IS NOT HOW I WANTED TO BOTTOM!”-- Something as equally as dumb, LMAO. I made everyone laugh. [Heart eyes.] Boost my ego, pls.)

We also had a really pretty Princess Peach (I believe that’s what they were!) ask my fiance and I to take a photo of us and I was so happy!! (We were Klance and Klance was their otp, heck yeah.) That was the first time someone who wasn’t always cosplaying Voltron asked for a photo of us and it made me feel so proud and happy. To the point we even asked them if they wanted us to pose, LOL. I hope they enjoyed the photo, they really helped boost my confidence as a cosplayer and I can’t thank them enough for it.

We met a lot of adorable individuals, too. Logan, Jem, Britany, Robin, Rebecca, Jensen and a few others. They really helped me feel better about my cosplay and everything. It was just so much fun being able to actually spend time with our friends at a convention and actually feel like we were part of a group.

(Anime Fest 2016 was great but it was mostly us following our friends’ friends around and not feeling part of the group, always being neglected -- though to no fault of our friends, we understand that people enjoy their cosplays and they have a friend group that’s closer to them but it was just... a lonely convention and we didn’t branch out much because we had no one to branch out with. Katsucon was different because we felt like we were a part of something. ;; I really adore everyone I’ve met through Kat.)

And it was so nice to meet old online friends (Nikita and Ash!!!) and being able to plan for next year’s convention to do group shots and everything, I just really loved feeling like I had friends (I mean, I do have friends but it’s different feeling like you can actually meet up with them, take pictures, hug and stuff than just online things. ;;) and loved that I could make plans with people and have hopes for next year.

There was a moment during dinner that Kieran noticed our rings and istg, it was exactly like that moment in YOI when realization dawned on them, LMAO. (Which is funny when you remember Kieran cosplayed Phichit, too!!!)

We got a lot of merch this time too, and we even cried over our wallets for it. But it was so worth it. +w+ A lot of stores sold out on Friday and Saturday but we managed to get most of the stuff we wanted to get, which was really great. We didn’t get everything we wanted because of money and out of stock but we definitely picked up business cards to hopefully buy stuff later. All the artists and their friends were so precious.

There was one booth that was the mom of the artist and she was so sweet and cute, and really nice and accepting. She was a blast! I’d totally want to support her and her child again in the future since she was so sweet. ;-;

Negatives!

The bus ride, definitely, is my top negative!

This convention was really big so it was awfully crowded but people were really understanding if you bumped into them by accident or needed to rely on their tables (AA/DR). So when I was struggling walking in my Lance cosplay, they understood perfectly that I needed to a break or I was having issues. But it was really crowded and at some points, people got really pissy/rude.

Like the Reinhardt for example-- yeah, the really tall one that everyone’s fawning over. They were in the AA and if you were there, you knew that crowded places with small walk-ways (probably fits three people at most between booths) are not the best places for massive cosplays. But this person, lord give me strength, was so rude about bumping into people. They bumped into me while my back was turned into them and almost knocked me over if I hadn’t grabbed on to the artist’s table we were visiting. He turned around and, so rudely, said ‘ExCUSE me.’ as if I was the one who bumped into him. And I’m still pissed off about that.

If you’re going to do giant cosplays, for the love of shared interests, don’t bring them into the AA or the DR unless you know you’ll have enough space to get around without bumping into people. And don’t be rude when you knock people over, jfc. What if the person you knocked over was an older person or someone with anxiety or fears or injuries? You don’t own the damn place, so don’t act high and mighty just because people fawn over your cosplay, jerk.

Another problem I had with this convention was bathrooms. Which, I get this all the time when I use the restroom. I’m not male passing but I’m still male, and just because I’m trans doesn’t make me any less than a man -- but some people don’t understand that. There were some people who were good about apologizing (I’m still sorry for being rude, D!) and acknowleding their mistakes, but to the jerks who literally tried to block me off from the bathrooms or who loudly stated, ‘Why is there a girl in the bathroom?’ -- Fuck you.

You’re at a damn convention where people are cosplaying, crossplaying, crossdressing or trying to enjoy a safe environment without judgement based of their gender, you have no right to be discriminative or rude because you assume this or that about me.

There was also this one person who kept latching on to us and making me really uncomfortable; all they would do is talk about themselves and their interests while following us around and -- I understand it’s nice having shared interests but if the only conversation you have to offer is about yourself, what you spent, what you have, what you did, then I’m sorry but I’d rather not wander around with you. Especially if you keep touching us without permission, I don’t care if wasn’t inappropiately but please keep your hands to yourself. (It took us a good 20 minutes to find a perfect oppurtunity to ditch them.)

Overall!

That’s all I can think of for now but!!! I had a total blast, despite everything and it was so much fun just being able to hang around with my friends and everyone. ; w ; We’re definitely going to be more active in the con area because of how rewarding it felt and how much fun it was. We might try to go to local conventions, too, but it all depends on our finances! (It was so fuuuun, I cry. ;; w ;;)

Thank you everyone who made this convention a good one for me, despite everything, and for your kind words and help. Y’all are the best, y’all are what make conventions fun, and I hope that good things come your way for allowing me to feel great, even if for a few days.

Chapter 132 and “the spare” comment

So people are flipping the fuck out over the fact that a) Frances called our!Ciel “the spare” and b) Vincent taking it all in stride, joking they may as well give up the Watchdog title should our!Ciel find himself at the Phantomhive helm. Was it particularly tasteful of them to address our!Ciel in such a blasé, brusque fashion? No. Did they mean it maliciously? No, no they didn’t. They don’t have the gift of hindsight that we as readers do. To them our!Ciel was a young, sickly child who couldn’t even go outside for fear of triggering an asthma attack—who couldn’t even have fencing lessons with Frances because of his weak constitution. (Please note I am NOT disparaging our!Ciel, but even the most devoted Kuro fan will have to recognize this actuality—our!Ciel is not the most robust child out there, as exemplified in canon by the Circus and Campania arcs.)

Furthermore, being the Queen’s Watchdog means executing orders that are both ruthless and necessary. We now know that our!Ciel can behave in such a fashion but back then when the twins were 7, 8 years old? Remember earlier in chapter 132 when Vincent took the twins to inspect the Phantomhive domain? The first thing real!Ciel says after Vincent finishes explaining the duty of a lord is that these tenants will need incentives to keep working the land—a hardline, pragmatic insight befitting a future earl. Yet our!Ciel, once he learns that a lord must “maintain his estate so tenants can be free to devote themselves to their work” worries about keeping everyone satisfied (granting their “wishes”) before wondering how many tenants live on the land. There is a startling difference between the twins in terms of mindset—real!Ciel thinks like an efficient, practical man of business while our!Ciel shows more compassion and thoughtfulness.

A more empathic, gentle approach.

…But these are the exact same sentiments that will get you killed if you’re the Queen’s Watchdog. To Vincent (and probably Frances, since she is Vincent’s sister and he has entrusted her with the training of his heir), our!Ciel probably seems far too softhearted and humane to ever fit the merciless, cutthroat role of Earl Phantomhive. I mean can you really blame Vincent? All his life (up until the fire) our!Ciel has been sweet, caring, obedient, and delicate—he’s shy around strangers, lacks the extroverted charm of his older brother, and his greatest dream is to open a toy shop so he can give joy to other young children.

Does this really sound like the type of kid who could one day kill with impunity, watch others bleed to death before him, and burn down an entire mansion filled with lobotomized children? Vincent and Frances are not trying to be spiteful, cruel, or demeaning—they’ve simply observed the twins, recognized their strengths and weaknesses, and are now discussing the very real possibility of what would happen if real!Ciel were to die. Morbid? Yes. But this was 19th century, lifespans were short and Vincent’s occupation as the Queen’s Watchdog leaves no room for error.

And, in a strange, inconspicuous way, Vincent may also be trying to protect our!Ciel. We know Queen Victoria is a dangerous individual not prone to softer emotions of forgiveness or understanding (i.e. Murder arc) and Vincent, who’s had direct contact with Victoria (thus giving him a chance to observe, catalogue, and analyze her in person), knows that the Phantomhives are disposable tools of the crown. If one of his sons were to mess up then they’d be eradicated and mercy—that odd, human concept—wouldn’t even be considered.

We as readers know our!Ciel is capable—probably more so than real!Ciel—but three years ago, when happiness was still possible and the Phantomhive twins were devoted to one another? The wickedness of what will one day come to pass seems not only farfetched but cruel—for why would you ever force a child like our!Ciel to abandon his innocence in favor of pitiless indifference and demonic power? We cannot fault Vincent and Frances for speaking of our!Ciel in those terms (“the spare”) because, in many ways, Vincent and Frances were also right. Undertaker explicitly says in the Weston arc that our!Ciel is different from his ancestors—a fact that our!Ciel proved when he rescued Joanne Harcourt even though such a task was both unnecessary and foolish. He put his life on the line to rescue Lizzy even though it meant drowning in the cold Atlantic current. Heck he stared death in the face with Madam Red, in the throes of anger, grief, and insanity was ready to stab him to death and he ordered Sebastian not to hurt his aunt.

Even after going through hell and back, there is still compassion inside our eyepatch wearing protagonist, he is still capable of pity, sentiment, and warmth. Our!Ciel has elevated himself beyond the scope of what his father and aunt thought possible, he has achieved momentous triumphs and committed unspeakable acts of horror but we CANNOT judge Vincent and Frances’s comments—made more than 3+ years ago—as hateful or heartless. In their eyes, they were assessing the shy, soft-spoken younger twin—not the tenacious, sharp-tongued, unflinchingly clever Queen’s Watchdog we know and admire.

The Acceptable Sacrifice

A Psalm of Asaph.

1 The mighty one, God the Lord, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting. 2 Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines forth.

3 Our God comes and does not keep silence, before him is a devouring fire, and a mighty tempest all around him. 4 He calls to the heavens above and to the earth, that he may judge his people: 5 “Gather to me my faithful ones, who made a covenant with me by sacrifice!” 6 The heavens declare his righteousness, for God himself is judge.Selah
