Gun's Arc as a Ghost Story : My Predictions Based on PTJ's Loose Adaptation of "Whispering Corridors" (1998)

Last year, I posted that the sequences with Gun living in an abandoned high school and Daniel's encounter with him was loosely based on the famous Korean horror film Whispering Corridors (1998).

With the current bloodbath that Gun had caused during the latest few episodes, I've become more sure that Gun is indeed the ghost of this story, not just because of the film and his notorious nickname (Shiro Oni: White Ghost), but also because of his overall role.

These are the important points from the film (SPOILER ALERT)

The ghost was born out of the abuse and injustice suffered by many students in the school, including herself.

As a result, the ghost wanted to get revenge for what the students had each suffered at the hands of dictatorial adults, especially teachers.

The ghost's terrors only ended after the collective resentment was resolved by the main characters, and her backstory was told, including who the guilty adults were.

Here are my predictions on Gun's arc based on those points

Gun's ghostly origin story was the product of both Japan's and Korea's underworld and its very punitive, harsh culture. He probably suffered because of the actions of adults around him.

The adults around Gun (his father or other parental figures) probably made him shoulder a grim responsibility regarding life and death since he was a kid even before juvie and before he met Charles as an (impressionable?) teen.

Gun's ghostly arc will only end (whether in his death or in a state similar to death) after the mystery of his background is revealed. And it will be revealed, for sure, including which adults were guilty for it, other than those we already knew of (Charles, the Kojima brothers, maybe Gun's father, and other people).

Daniel and/or other main characters would be there when the backstory is revealed.

Lookism ch 396-397 spoilers

So Gun is the “Nurture Genius”, basically like the fighting instructor genius. If he is the nurture genius, Tom Lee is the fighting genius, then what is Goo? Is he a specific kind of genius as well? What kind would he be?

Also it looks like Gun stole Goo’s glasses smh Goo can’t stop getting robbed

I think the other person who has two bodies is Jinyoung himself. He and Daniel both have the copy ability, so I think it would make sense if they had something else in common. I wonder why he wanted to hide it from Eugene, and if Eugene even believes him.

If the person Vin Jin killed was his junior, I wonder if they were living some kind of miserable life and he wanted to put them out of their misery.

Edit: @dargeon-lissa I do think Jinyoung is Daniel’s dad. Maybe the bodies are genetic or smth? I don’t think Jinyoung knows about Crystal’s bodies because apparently no one was able to find him and giving out his whereabouts is not something Eugene does easily. I don’t think he would give Charles Choi that assistance nor do I think Charles would go around asking for help. Crystal confirmed that Charles is the only one who knows. Goo is probably the weapons genius since he’s the one who’s always using random objects.

Okay so based on the fan translation I read on Instagram. Smol!Hyungseok went to Jonggun and tell him about Big!Hyungseok being kidnapped and ask Jonggun to train him. Hyungseok wants to make his own crew to defeat Yoojin

like johan and jake are searching far and wide to find gun and kill him and meanwhile

daniel : watch this. i will go to james lee's old school and slenderman's first cousin cheetah-print man will emerge from the shadows in his pink pajamas to beat my ass.

i know gun had an extremely questionable fit this chapter with the cheetah print and glasses BUT he somehow makes it work idk like he ALWAYS manages to be dripped out... kinda like the marilyn monroe of lookism

Lookism Chapter 396 Spoilers:

So this is just my rough translation as my korean is still not the best..

Vin Jin calls Mary at a local park. She arrives and asks where was he gone. He tells her he was locked up inside the Workers 2nd Affiliate.

He also tells her how he'll probably have to drop becoming a rapper. He even says something along the lines of “is there a way to become a woman?” 😆

And she asks if he only called her up for this nonsense 😆

To which he tells her its not just that and that the workers already knew about his eyes.

And also about him killing a person.

And that he can only talk to her about this matter.

Apparently the person he killed was their junior.

Mary asks him if he regrets killing that guy.

Vin says he doesn't regret it at all.

So here comes the most ambiguous panel for me.

In this last, blank panel, Kim Miru says:

“Thank you, Jin Hobin.”

Now I'm not sure what she thanks him for.

Maybe thanks for staying in control and not killing someone at the Workers.

Or maybe thanks for not regretting killing that guy 😳

(which draws more questions..like..did Hobin kill that guy to protect Miru?)

hi i read the recent translations for lookism and i noticed that certain panels of Vin and Mary's conversation in 396 have been skipped?? they're just not translated but i saw some of them on your rough translation.. like the one with Mary sitting on swing. anyways I'm just asking can you post all those translated panels with dialogue here pls 🙏i really want to read their full convo

Anyways, as for the panels you're asking about, I don't have them. I read them on korean naver and roughly translated by myself.

If you want I can put them up with my own panel by panel rough translations here..

but it might take me a day or two as I have 2 exams coming up in the next 8 hours 😅
