Getting Into Knives || Hatfish
@davidhatter
Was this partially an excuse to have company while he stocked Miss Anna’s fridge for her? Oh, absolutely. But did he also think this was an excellent way to trick Mr. Hatter into being his friend? For sure. Food was a kitchen witch’s whole Deal, wasn’t it?
And besides he didn’t think anything else about him was interesting enough to lead with. Maybe all of the books he read? It was hard to talk about books for him; there were so many, how do pick which ones to bring up? Aish, this was much easier.
Chirp, chirp, chirp!
Ah, yes, and Karen was here.
Karen chirped again from his lookout spot at the window to tell him Mr. Hatter was here just before the zoomies took over and he ran circles around Miss Anna’s living room.
He ushered him inside and said with a warm smile, “Here, I’ll grab these. Say hi to Karen before he yells at me. He came along to see you.”
Marlin emptied to grocery bags and set everything out while Karen got his attention.
“Damn, you really did get everything on the list. 잘 했어 (jal-hess-eo), I should shop with a list more often.” Usually he just thought of what he wanted to cook and hoped he remembered.
“Sorry the kitchen’s a little -- I’ve been cooking all morning for Nam-min and for Miss Anna so her fridge is stocked and she won’t have to cook after vacation. I always do when I’m cat-sitting for her. We’re basically family.” He grinned and pointed to a picture on her fridge of the two of them and Nemo and her two grandkids at a dance recital about six years ago. There were others featuring Nemo with her grandkids, both older and newer, and even one of just him and Nemo sitting on her floor one Christmas morning when Nemo had been about eight, interspersed with pictures of her two grandkids.
“It’s the least I can do for everything she’s done for me. Specifically for getting me through Dance Mom hell. As the kids at work would say, she’s a real one.”
