Talking of iconic behind the scenes videos, literally can’t tell you how much I love this one - you know, just Louis XIV, midway through declaring himself head of the French church, encouraging his court to behave in a perfectly normal manner for the 1680s.
I don’t own the video - it belongs to Canal+ and everyone who made Versailles.

George Blagden played Louis XIV?!
- Finding out this information was so surprising it crashed Tumblr
remember when versailles came out and george blagden was playing king louis xiv of france and les mis tumblr was chomping at the bit climbing up the walls they were like imagine you are this drunken green son of a fuck grantaire in love with a man who is in love with the revolution and you wake up hungover in the dirty streets of paris with memories in your head of being the sun king, of building a glittering palace
#I watched two season of versailles and I never noticed what THE FUKC?!#he looks so different?!#george blagden#bern speaks

let's start things off fun:
i don't think there's actually any doubt in charles' mind that, even if he can't say it back, he will. i think when presented with the information and the option, it won't take him long at all to decide he wants to fall in love with edwin (he already has, he just hasnt clocked it yet) and will be eagerly awaiting the day it finally clicks. idk how much of this is from the modern au fic where charles tells monty "hey sorry you have no chance he's in love with me :)" and how much is just. the way charles looks at edwin The Whole Fucking Time (jayden revri, the actor you are. george blagden would be proud)
hi it's @twostarsandasmileyface but with my a03 name (ooooo) and probably exclusively dbda thoughts! have i posted any dbda fic on ao3 yet?? nope! but i wanna! this'll be the drawing board. i'm sorry in advance for how often i'll be going a little crazy over how stupid hot these people are

I don't know if anyone needs to hear this but ExR shipping frenzy is not (merely) a by-product of the musical and it's not because they cast a good looking Grantaire. I have never watched the musical in my life and I found out who George Blagden was last year, but I've shipped them since I was 14. It's in the book. They just have an objectively unparalleled dynamic, in the book, and it is normal that people are drawn to it. It's not mischaracterization and it is definitely not the musical.
#i mean i guess it depends on how you ship them#i don't believe enjolras is in love with grantaire or should be in love with him in the slightest#but they are still extremely compelling to me nonetheless#les miserables#exr#enjoltaire#enjolras x grantaire#aspa rambles#aspa reads les mis

It's great coming back into the Vikings (Athelnar) fandom when I was someone there right from the very start, because I know things newer fans don't seem to know.
For example, it seems no one knew that George Blagden really DID shave the tonsure on his head, because he made a tweet about being bullied on the tube once so wore a beanie whenever he left his house until it grew back ( in fact every hairstyle he had was real, with a few extensions).
Also how Travis would tie George to something secretly while Athelstan had that rope around his neck, call him, and George would then half strangle himself or fall over. Every. Single. Time.
Also how Travis once kidnapped George and locked him in the boot of his car, or how George did a private dance to Rock Me for Travis that Travis has recorded on his phone, or how Travis bit George's ear while eating in a pub together once, so badly it bruised.
Or how George once did a charity promotion and personally emailed a thank you to everyone who donated, FROM HIS OWN EMAIL ADDRESS, so a bunch of us ended up having his actual own personal email and when i replied back to him saying maybe that wasn't the best idea he said something along the lines of oh yeah opps not used to being kinda famous yet.
Or how it was me, @azryal00 and @chainfour who invented the ship names Athelnar and Tblag, I mean you are literally looking at one of the grandmothers of this entire fandom.
Just, so many little things, that I'm sure I'll remember more of as I slowly re-post like everything Vikings related from 2013 - 2014 from my own tumblr archive.

Queelign Headcanons (Part 1?)
AHEM. So. I originally planned for this to be a list of short points but, as usual, got carried away. Curse you, bowl-cut malewife Quee, curse you and your stupidly fascinating potential as a character.
Queelign can sing. This man is voiced by George Blagden who is an amazing singer, and I like to believe that he inherited the same singing talents. He probably never feels the need to use them though - dude is a crusader - but he could be convinced if one rolls 20 in persuasion. Here’s an extract of George for illustration (solo between 1:15 and 1:52)
youtube
I think Queelign might often neglect his own health on his quest to purge all of the graceless. I mean, the man invades us in some random place in Belurat and he’s the only crusader presence there as far as I know, so one has to wonder what in the world he was doing here. Was he just… waiting there for some impure heretics to appear? I also like to think that the yellow-ish skin isn’t natural (jaundice?) and might be a result of some kind of liver damage, whether it be a genetic disorder or other causes of cirrhosis/or just some kind of health condition. Not like it’s stopping him from wooping some Tarnished anyways… (source for below : Zullie the Witch on yt)
Queelign opposed the idea of the Specimen Storehouse with a passion. Assuming Salza sided with Hilde in favor of it, we can safely guess that their position is driven by scholarly pursuits. Now, why would Queelign, who is seen actively hunting the graceless even years after the war, and who seemingly has no interest in learning about his ennemies’ ways and customs, want to preserve the culture of those he deems impure and heretical? If anything, their mere existence is a plague to fair mother Marika! Queelign is first and foremost a warrior, bloodthirsty and fanatical, and as such certainly does not care about the specifics of the people he slaughters. And in the end, war ultimately ends up being all that remains of him.
As time went by, I feel like Queelign would have gotten progressively more scared of the dark. Already when we give him an Iris of Occultation in the prayer room, which blocks out light in all its forms, he freaks out and despairs about Marika abandoning him. This is actually the main objective of the Iris, as darkness=forsaken by the Queen, aka the worst fear of any crusader. And Queelign being desperate as he is for grace, he would take his fear a step further by avoiding all places exceedingly dark. I can imagine that when he takes the time to rest, if he ever does that lmao, he’d wish to absolutely have a source of light somewhere to avoid being alone in obscurity.
Queelign definitely admires and looks up to Messmer, the mere fact that he reshaped his greatsword to match his spear is proof enough. He is also a Fire Knight, which means he was ready to abandon whatever high station he had in Leyndell to serve Messmer. Heck, he even wanted to be Messmer 2.0 as a ‘Second Impaler’. However, Queelign also expresses a certain desire to remain pure himself (« I would not. Am I not pure? »), probably in order to get Marika’s favor, I’d assume. This might explain why he is so different from the other Fire Knights we meet in the Shadow Keep, who are all super tall and lanky, have red hair, and a seemingly burnt upper face (much like the regular Messmer soldiers). Although this could totally just be because of the limitations of the player-type NPC models :P
(This is the end, finally 😭)

Hello!!! I just finished your zombie apocalypse fic a while ago, Crack of Dawn, All is Gone? Needless to say it was spectacular, the ending is just so good. I was wondering if you could describe the physical appearances of the 4 of them a bit in detail? I really want to draw fanart hehe.
You're an amazing author! All of your fics are so good :D
omg hiiii!!! Thank u so much for this and for all of your lovely comments on my fics. I've been having kind of a challenging few weeks and seeing a barrage of new comments from you was always a lil bright spot in the middle of The HorrorsTM, so thank you for that 🥹🥹🥹 I can't promise my physical descriptions will be any good, but they're here anyway!
Enjolras, I actually have a clear faceclaim for for this fic, which is the model Michael Lockley! So yah, tall and thin, big dark eyes, very very pretty
Given that they're twins in this fic, as long as Cosette looks kind of similar to Enjolras, you're good! I think the main difference is that her hair is a darker blond than Enjolras', and that she wears it in long braids instead of natural.
Appearance-wise, my Grantaire is always similar to George Blagden. I was here since 2012 you can't ask me to change my ways now. I think the main difference is that he's short and stocky, with big broad shoulders and chest. Also he has a big thick black beard, good for him.
Marius I picture as being tall and gangly, like a baby giraffe who doesn't quite know how to manage all its limbs in unison yet. He's pale, freckly, and has lots of red hair and big brown eyes with not a single thought behind them. Also dimples. Because I can.
Given it's a zombie apocolypse fic, they'll all be fairly scrunkly and messy, like realistically all the guys are gonna have a good amount of facial hair, not just Grantaire! Up to you if you wanna include that though, I certainly didn't when I was picturing them lmao
Thank u again for the ask, tag me if you ever do end up posting fanart I would absolutely love to see it <3 <3 <3

So I've been thinking about THIS:
for like a whole day now, and it's got me like:
So here are my notes and questions and thoughts:
Gonna be long, going to put under a 'keep reading'
THE PEOPLE INVOLVED
Simon Mirren. He created Versailles, and him posting this image suggests that he's working on a project related to Versailles or the Louis XIV period of history.
'He's back'. The word 'back' here absolutely suggests a return of someone we're familiar with.
Alex Vlahos is INVESTED in whatever it is - suggesting 'HE' is Philippe. He liked the post and commented 'Makes you wonder why he ever went away'...
... and then David Wolstenscroft, the OTHER creator of Versailles, replied saying 'And how'.
This is so cryptic. They all know who 'he' is. Alex seems perhaps wistful, maybe about the end of the show and therefore the end of Philippe. 'And how'... I've no freaking idea what this means. How 'Philippe' went away? How he's come back?
How he went away... the show ended.
How he's come back... well I have a theory later.
This screenshot above is taken from Gabriella Petrillo's Twitter account - as you can see, Alex shared the pic to his Instagram story captioned 'Oh, who invited you?'
Which is in QUOTATION MARKS.
Meaning that this is either Philippe asking the audience, or a general character tagline for the project.
OTHER PEOPLE WHO LIKED THE PIC
Anna Brewster (Montespan), Sarah Winter (Louise de la Valliere), Raphael Roger Levy (The Masked Man in S1), and also Nicki Oebel who works with Alex as the second half of his film company Cowhouse Films
TAGGED NAMES
Tagged in this picture are:
ALEX VLAHOS (and his tag is directly on the man's head, which might not mean anything, but suggests it's him)
EVAN WILLIAMS (not him, Chevy is blond)
GEORGE BLAGDEN (the only other real candidate as to who this could be, but compared side by side to the Versailles promo photos, and with the lack of response from George, I doubt it)
STUART BOWMAN (too young to be him)
Also tagged: Versailles Series, MonChevy Love, Versailles fan club.
Bonus: Helen Mirren (Simon Mirren's aunt), Bella Thorne, both actors, and also Louis Vuitton Official and Harris Reed, both fashion houses/designers
THE IMAGE
OK, so lets assume this is meant to be Philippe.
COSTUME/HAIR
The jacket is the wrong style for 1600s Versailles. It's more 1700s, and the real Philippe died in 1701. The costume designers for the original show were METICULOUS in their choices and the way things were worn. Including COLOUR PALATTES. Every character had their own. And Philippe only wore white like this once... at the costume party in S1 E9 when he dressed identically to Louis. Generally, Philippe wore more grey and silver.
If the figure is Philippe, the hair is the right colour, but shorter, and also half up, which is not a style Philippe ever wore in the show. His hair was sleeker with much looser waves, whereas this man has quite thick hair.
LOCATION
I think the Chateau in the photo is Fontainebleau, where some of Versailles was filmed, but I can't find a direct parallel photo from the position 'Philippe' is standing in. However, Fontainebleau has lots of water near it, like in the photo. (And I also feel like I saw Alex visiting there on Instagram within the past few months but I don't know if my brain is playing tricks on me)
IS IT AI?
My sister pointed out the image could be AI generated and honestly? I agree. No hands on show, and the bottom of the sleeves look a bit weird. No location tagged either. Historical costume that isn't quite right for the period we're assuming it to be, or for Philippe's character, which wouldn't be inkeeping with the series' aesthetic.
Could definitely be AI.
REALITY CHECK
Versailles was the most expensive show Canal+ had ever produced. I think it still is. And a new series, or spinoff series, would be just as expensive to produce. This isn't Game of Thrones we're talking about. The show has its hardcore fans, but it wasn't exactly a household name, which studios would throw masses of money at to reboot.
The story of S3 of Versailles also ended in the early-mid 1680s, just as the cast were reaching the point where it seemed ludicrous that they all still looked so young. The cast are now all doing different projects, several have married and had children since. They've moved on with their lives. To think they'd all return to a reboot or spinoff show... is unlikely.
However...
SAINT CLOUD
Alex Vlahos tormented us all with this snippet of a 'Saint Cloud' concept trailer a couple of months ago. Saint Cloud was the name of Philippe's chateau, and his spinoff idea was always a MonChevy comedy show about their lives and debauchery and stuff at their home.
But let's face it, this whole thing feels unlikely, and more just like a bit of a fun idea than something that a studio would actually produce, and he's only just started writing a concept trailer...
BUT.
SPEAKING OF...
ALEX VLAHOS
I'm gonna do a whole section on Alex Vlahos, because there's no way he's not involved. He, in fact, announced something at the convention that gives me my biggest theory about what this is.
Alex is obviously a driving force for the Versailles fandom. He was a key figure at the conventions and at the con in May I went to, and on Instagram shortly after, he announced he is going to do a Versailles podcast next year. It'll be a 30 episode thing, one for each episode of the show, and he said he'll have guest stars to chat to... including other actors and the showrunners, Simon Mirren and David Wolstencroft.
So.
That is a CONFIRMED upcoming Versailles project.
And so this image?
MY THEORY
I'm running with the theory that it's is a promo image for Alex's Versailles podcast, possibly made with AI.
It would make sense.
It's something for the fans, hence the tagged accounts. It'll feature the tagged actors to talk about the show. It's not something that is going to cost a million euros to make, so is more realistic. It's not a long term commitment for actors who have other jobs now.
It shows a man who looks a bit like Philippe - looking back at the chateau, as if reminiscing about his time there... just as Alex is going to do on his podcast.
BUT'S
Of course, this is just my theory. If it is the case, the fact that this podcast had already been announced twice makes the mysterious nature of this pic/conversation weird. And the fact that it was Simon Mirren posting it first, not Alex Vlahos, would be weird too, although maybe it's just because it's going to be quite an 'official' thing, with the support of the showrunners.
But I digress.
Anyway, on a final note, I would VERY VERY VERY willing to be proven wrong, and have a Versailles S4 or a MonChevy spinoff happening, I might actually cry if it does hahahaha
#versailles#monchevy#alex vlahos#alexander vlahos#versailles series#philippe d'orleans#ngl I mostly wrote this out for me#so I could rid myself of the brain worms lmao#but feel free to add your theories/details#join meeeeeeeeeeee

3, 11, 14 for the book asks?
3. What were your top five books of the year?
(gonna lump some series together)
"Darius the Great is not OK" and the sequel "Darius the Great Deserves Better" by Adib Hhorram - maybe it was just the vibe I needed at the time, but they were lovely coming of age books.
The Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb (reread) It's been actual YEARS since I read these and I still cite them as a favourite series. It was amazing how much I forgot. Still a good read. Even if I want to throttle the teenage protag at times!
The Martian by Andy Weir. I picked the audiobook up on a whim because it was available and I needed something to listen to. Best whim I've had this year! I don't know what I expected from the book, (I haven't seen the film) but it was a blast from start to finish. Again, the narration by Wil Wheaton didn't hurt!
Jade City by Fonda Lee. I've only had a chance to read the first of the trilogy, and it was setting up for some grand things. It's been a while since I looked around the fantasy genre for a good series to sink my teeth into and there's been so much published since I last went looking. Can't wait to get to the next two.
A Taste of Gold and Iron by Alexandra Rowland. Fantasy queer romance. Does what it says on the tin. The right amount of trope and emotion and vibe. I've read a few fantasy romances this year and I was expecting something melodramatic and cliche but fun, and it delivered way above what I expected! I know the author is publishing again next year and I can't wait. I think it's pirates next time.
Honourable Mentions
Lessons in Chemisty - Bonny Garmus
The Goblin Emperor - Katherine Addison/Sarah Monette
11. What was your favorite book that has been out for a while, but you just now read?
The Odssey - Homer (I know QUITE A WHILE Huh?)
I listened to an audiobook narrated by George Blagden, this has been a book I've tried to read for a while as I am ofc very aware of the cultural impact, but I just couldn't get into reading it. Considering the Odyssey comes from Oral Tradition it is so much better when read to you. George Blagden's voice doesn't hurt either :P
14. What books do you want to finish before the year is over?
I'm rereading Jane Austen's Emma for the first time since I read it the first time, and I'm trying to go slowly and really enjoy the language, not zoom through for "OMG WHAT HAPPENS NEXT". I'm now getting to enjoy the slower chapters and all the bonus gossip and vibes.
I'm also in the middle of Victoria Goddard's Hands of the Emperor which has been a good read so far, protags who aren't -20 are rare and I love it.
Yes I ADHD read multiple books at once.
Folks, send more book asks!! - The List is Here
