Đường Ung Văn Khiêm (đoạn Phạm Cự Lượng – Trần Quang Khải); 

Đường vành đai trong thành phố Long Xuyên; Đường Thánh Thiên (từ đường Trần Hưng Đạo – đến đường tránh); 

Chợ Bình Khánh; 

Khu du lịch sinh thái Cồn Phó Ba; 

Các dự án hạ tầng (thủy lợi, điện…) cho các vùng chuyên canh lúa, nuôi trồng thủy sản, rau màu ứng dụng công nghệ cao; 

Dự án hạ tầng cho vùng sản xuất chuyên canh hoa và cây kiểng; dự án chăn nuôi heo thịt….

Trở lại Vàm Cống sau nhiều năm cách biệt, con người khác, cảnh vật khác, đến Vàm Cống đông đúc này sang năm khi cầu thông xe rồi cũng sẽ khác. Chỉ mãi tâm thế chẳng thể nào làm khác đi được. 13 Years Later...

The first year I visited Vietnam was 2001.  I was 11-years-old holding on to one carry-on that would last a month’s worth of clothing.  I held a hopeful grin that I would be able to understand and respond to my extended family members in fluent Vietnamese and try to read the road signs to navigate my way around Long Xuyen.  I actually can’t read in Vietnamese, but I sure do try - lol.  Especially, the food items! 

A few years later, I returned in the summer of 2006, where it would be the second and last time I saw my maternal grandmother.  She was a beacon of light.  She became blind a few years before I was able to visit her and her only image of me was when I was a newborn in a pink dress that she sent over to the U.S.  Although, we have only met twice, I’ve always spoke to her on the phone and she would always give reminders to pray, give gratitude, and help those in need.  I never take those moments nor her words for granted.

My grandmother was vegetarian and religiously prayed/studied Buddhist hymns - even when she became completely blind.  Always effervescent and her personality came through her pores.  My mother was devastated when she passed and so was I.

Thirteen years later, I finally booked a ticket to go to Saigon, Vietnam.  It would be my third trip to the motherland, but it somehow felt completely new.  I am now a woman, who has endured pain, love, hurt, passion, and so much more.

It was my first time visiting our family’s grave site, where my (maternal) great aunt, grandfather, grandmother, uncle’s wife, and two uncles are buried.  It was a chilling experience.  Along the way, I saw a few butterflies throughout our journey to the site... One looked like a monarch butterflies and the other ones (I think I saw about three) were smaller white.  I saw them flutter by me and would watch where they would fly off to.  I asked my mother if there are common sightings of butterflies in Vietnam?  She responded with “no” and followed with saying that if I saw a few, it might be a visitation sign from my grandmother, grandfather, and two uncles (Co Nam & Co Bay). I. Broke. Down.

To be completely honest, I did a lot of crying during this trip.  You see the conditions and are aware of how third-world countries live on television and can even visit these places - but when you see your own blood in this type of environment, it pains you in a way that I cannot begin to explain.

In the end, I took a lot of this in as much as I could during the moment.  I enjoyed sharing the “retreat” of this trip, but it was very important to me to make sure I gave back to those around me.  I took plenty of photos and videos of everything that made me laugh, cry, and crave.  I will be sharing those soon.
