I like how the twist in Slay the Princess isn't that the princess is some kind of ever shifting reality bending eldritch horror. That much was obvious to everyone and their mother even before the game came out. so the game doesn't even try to play its cards close to its chest.

the twist that the game slowly builds to is that you are also an ever shifting reality bending eldritch horror. That all of of your presumed limits are self imposed, and have been the entire time.

The princess changes and becomes as powerful as you believe her to be, but the same thing is true for you as well. the game is about the princess finding the pieces of herself, to learn who she is. meanwhile you are slowly learning WHAT you are, and once both of you fully know who and what you are you become fully fledged gods

You only die because you believe the narrator when he says you do, and as soon as you decide to not be dead, you suddenly cannot die because you've stopped believing in that limit.

You can only starve if you believe you need to eat.

As soon as you decide to stop playing around with the razor you summon the long quiet and easily trounce her.

As soon as you have the thought that the narrator isnt as strong as he pretends to be. that maybe he doesnt have final say in things. he loses any and all ability to control you or the construct.

love how the framing in the third picture makes it clear that the pain isnt just because the princess doesnt know how to use a knife. its the narrator himself inflicting pain on you as some kind of punishment

The exact opposite of being doomed by the narrative

I discovered this game while playing with a group of friends on Halloween, and I must say it was quiet immersive because we each wanted different things so we always had to argue together on what to do before the Voices would Took 3 days to complete a single run

Durring slay the princess, our leads have the only lightly touched upon ability to shape reality and give both themself and their other half abilities though a combination of perspective, belief, and willpower.

Quiet can reject their own death and come back to life simply by deciding that they arent dead

they can similarly bring the princess back to life by believing she isnt dead/can't be killed

the princess' perception of you results in you getting voices in your head

your perception of the princess changes her both mentally and physically to reflect that

the recurring idea of "I think i can do it, if you believe I can" from something as small as making locked door unlock itself. to something as huge as being able to repair the construct, resurrect the echo, and reduce the both of you back to zero

I think that this is also the explanation for why the narrator is able to narrate things into existence. force things to happen, as well as why he loses his ability to do that basically as soon as someone calls him out on it.

now im just wondering if post-game, whether you leave as gods or you leave as "mortals" you keep your ability to do that? they were fully aware of themselves, aware of what they can do and their own nature as creatures of paradox. can they still do things simply because they believe they can?

When I broke the cycle, I made sure that the tear was rough. You carry a part of what should be her, and she carries a part of what should be you.

one of my favorite moments in the game. when the adversary suddenly becomes worried for you and perturbed that you dont seem to die no matter now badly hurt or mangled you get. to the point it sounds like shes actually about to cry
