Garion, an Arbiter, and you, a Color Fixer. always at odds, at each other's throats, but never quite maiming or killing. you think she enjoys this, maybe she finds some sadistic joy in meeting you and fighting, again and again. to you, the company is almost something like happiness. anything constant is devoid in the life of a Color Fixer, a steady stream of hellos and goodbyes and false nods encased in a locked box of loneliness and isolation. all this for a color and a title and a list of benefits.
to think that your favorite part of the week would be one Arbiter tracking you down... how hilariously cruel. she's only using you, as the rest of them always do.
you nearly meet your end at the hands of another Color, a simple argument turning into a brawl that neither of you win nor lose. so you merely sit, back pressed against the wall and a hand gripping your torn skin. it's painful, not as much as it should be- pain is the only other constant in your life- but the amount of blood covers your skin dreadfully, losing more than anyone should. you fully expect to die that night, under the moon and clouds. more will come to fill your role in the City, and soon your title will be forgotten and washed away.
instead of death, there's a pair of hands neatly covering your wounds, the motion gentler than anything you can remember. the darkness covering your vision winks and twinkles like a pair of deep black gemstones, and a familiar, oddly soft voice reaches your ears.
"I will not abandon you, and in return, you shall not abandon me. We still have tomorrow's meeting, and the next, and the next, don't we?"
