Day Book #6
So far London has been the complete opposite of what I was expecting. It has been sunny every single day we have been here, except for one day and then by about two it was sunny again. Most of the people here are not as sophisticated as I had imagined, in fact they were pretty simpler to Americans, just a lot quieter. The hustle and bustle of the city is exactly like New York City. London is not grey at all and the whole time I have been here it hasn’t rained once. The description that I listed with “Friends” was surprisingly the most like how London actually is. No one here dresses super fancy either. Their clothing items are no where near the fashion capital of the world. The fast food here is actually terrible, which is the exact opposite of what I was expecting. My last sentence was the most accurate thing I wrote in my very first day book, “ I know London is nothing like what I think it is”. On the first day we got here we went straight to Kensington park and the Eye of London. It was about ninety degrees and there were so many people everywhere. I also learned that day that in England they typically don’t card most people who order alcoholic beverages. On the second day I left the city with a small group and went to Windsor, Stonehenge, and Bath, so I didn’t really get to experience London. The rest of the week I just explored the ins and outs of London and the tube. I have gotten completely accustomed. We also went to a few plays and I was expecting people to dress up in their best clothes, since we were in London watching theatre. What I learned very quickly was that they don’t dress up very much for the plays. London is still one of the most amazing cities I have ever been to. I will move here one day.
