December 1, 2020 - Tricolored Munia or Black-headed Munia (Lonchura malacca)

Native to grassy areas of South Asia and southern China, these estrildid finches have been introduced to parts of the Americas. They feed on seeds from grasses and other plants, foraging mostly on the ground in flocks, often with seedeaters and grassquits. Pairs build round or oval-shaped nests in reeds, grasses, or rushes above water from grass and bamboo leaves. Both parents care for the chicks.

~ The tricoloured munia, is an estrildid finch, native to Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, and southern China. The species was also introduced to Trinidad, Jamaica, Hispaniola, Puerto Rico, Cuba, and Venezuela.
