今天是1939年八月26日。

我和當時的總參謀Halder反覆討論入侵波蘭的事宜。克魯格跟我一樣鬥志滿滿的，但軍方裡頭其他人在擔心英國的下一步。

不多時，英國與波蘭簽訂協議的消息下來了，Halder立刻禁止我們輕舉妄動。英國佬總是會做英國佬會做的事情，我其實不怎麼意外；但一聽到要鳴金收兵，克桶他看上去要抓狂了(Kluge is…besides himself)。

喔對了，我的總部那裡是凱撒巴德療養院，四個有妄想症的傢伙溜了出來，抓住我的便衣警衛揍了一頓還關起來。呼呼我很久沒遇過這麼好笑的事了www。

今天是1939年八月27日。

Halder那邊反正就這樣了。我一直在跟布勞希奇(Brauchitsch)反覆確認何時要動員軍隊，我現在只關心這件事。克魯格同意我的所有見解。喔耶。

但是顯然布勞希奇很介意英國大使來訪柏林這件事。他說我們與比利時、法國與英國的關係十分緊張，這嚴重拖累了軍人們的士氣，各處的情緒都很低落。我不認為談判能談出個什麼所以然來，總之我下午的時候親自去看了一下我的師團。

今天是1939年九月一日。 攻勢正式開始了，我指揮第二軍團（II Army Corps）與第十裝甲師（10th Panzer division）快速地朝東普魯士前進。維斯瓦河畔地區馬上就掃除了障礙。我要第二軍團的史特勞斯在庫爾姆（Kulm）的方向設立橋頭堡。這時候英國與法國還是只會在邊上嚷嚷而已，感覺上有夠俗辣。因為我催史特勞斯催得緊，波蘭轟炸機根本炸不到我們的人。

等到佔領庫爾姆之後，我就能利用那裡的鐵路把人員一路運到波蘭沃姆札（Lomza）。我趕緊把第四軍團的克魯格召喚過來，談談如何進入沃姆札的事宜，沒想到這桶子開飛機撞到樹，進醫院了。嘖，只好把克桶那部份的事情通通丟給史特勞斯了，得把他挖起來聽簡報。

Background information of the day-

Wehrmacht launched an operation towards East Prussia. Fedi directed II Army Corps and 10th Panzer division forward as quickly as possible. Soon, the Vistula river bank was cleared for access. Fedi ordered Strauss of the II Army Corps to establish a bridgehead towards Kulm. Britain and France protested at the side whereas Polish bombers attacked here and there. Fedi moved his troops very fast, nobody got hurt.

Fedi wanted to take Kulm and its railroads in order to transport further eastward through Lomza (Poland). Fedi summoned von Kluge on this matter, but Kluge hit a tree and got hospitalized. Literally no fuck given to Kluge, Fedi immediately moved all Kluge’s work load onto Strauss. Poor Strauss.

17. Dive In! podcast

In November 2023, I hunkered down in a narrowboat on the Oxford Canal with Marta Lomza from the Museum of Oxford and radio producer Hunter Charlton to record final clips for the Dive In! podcast – by candlelight, naturally.

Across four c. 30min episodes, the podcast provides a sonic souvenir of the exhibition Marta and I organised at the Museum of Oxford last summer, exploring many aspects of Oxford's history of river bathing: everything from the rise of the Victorian changing cubicle to swimming with ponies off Port Meadow.

There's so much packed in there that I'm glad we included: oral history interviews recorded by our volunteer-interviewers, a meeting with the Thame Magnet Fishing crew at Long Bridges, interviews with writer and filmmaker Cat White, visionary bathing architect Chris Romer-Lee and the ever-knowledgable Dr Tom Crook of Oxford Brookes.

We heard from people who facilitated workshops for Dive In!, including fashion illustrator Niki Groom, environmentalist Izzy Mcleod, and Co-operative Development Worker Alice Hemming. And we featured local community groups like the Friends of Long Bridges and Tumbling Bay Preservation Society.
