#SIF Sif is a Norse goddess who is mentioned somewhat often in Old Norse literature, but only in passing references. Virtually the only thing we know about her is that she is the wife of the storm-god Thor. Her name seems to mean “relation by marriage,” so even here we find nothing of a personality or function – just a familial association.[1] There are two references to Sif that say anything more than this. She is said to be the mother of the similarly obscure god Ullr, whose unknown father is apparently someone other than Thor.[2] She also plays a role in the tale of The Creation of Thor’s Hammer, although here, too, her role is completely passive. Here it’s said that Sif had magnificent golden hair, which the wily trickster Lokicut off one day when he found himself in an especially mischievous mood. Thor, enraged, threatened to kill Loki, but Loki convinced the thunder god to spare his life on the condition that he find an even fairer head of hair for Sif. Thor consented, and off Loki went to procure Sif’s new hair.[3] This reference to Sif’s golden hair, as paltry as it is, is nevertheless the most meaningful detail we know about her. Many scholars have suggested that this is a symbol of a field of flowing grain ripe for the harvest.[4] When viewed from the standpoint of comparative religion, as well as what we know about Thor, this would seem to be a sound intuition. One of the most common themes in the mythology of the Indo-Europeanpeoples such as the Norse and other Germanic peoples, as well as the Celts, Slavs, Balts, Greeks, Romans, Indians (of India), and many others, is the idea of the sexual union of a sky god and an earth goddess. Historians of religion call this ahieros gamos or hierogamy, which means “divine marriage.” The hieros gamosmaintains the cosmic order and brings fertility and prosperity to the earth as it – or she – is fertilized by the rain and sun from the sky.

Now that she was home, it was as if her body felt safe enough to let her know what was wrong. Her head was killing her and her shoulder could hardly be moved without immense pain. She called Tony because she didn’t know where to go to find where Loki was being bandaged by the doctor. Reluctantly, he directed her to the 10th floor.
She entered the room without knocking, which seemed to irritate the man working on Loki’s arm. He was wearing gloves, but other than that his clothes were very strange for practicing medicine. They looked sort of mystical, and he wore a maroon cloak. He had just given stitches where he could, and was starting to wrap the arm in a bandage. The sight of Loki’s mutilated arm made her nauseous once more. “So, What happened?” Alexa asked groggily.
Tony turned to her. “Dear god kid sit down you look hideous.”
Alexa complied, sinking her body into a chair. She held her head in her hands and watched Loki’s unconscious body as if waiting for him to do something. Apparently, she’d been staring motionless for a while, and soon the doctor was watching her. “Hey.” He snapped his fingers to get her to look at him. She squinted up at him as he flashed a small light at each of her eyes. “Did you hit your head?” He asked.
“Yes. On a tree in the park,” she said groggily.
The man turned to Tony. “Well, that one has a concussion. Pretty badly. She needs rest and Tylenol. This one will heal and the stitches are the type that will fall out on their own so you don’t have to do anything to them.”
Alexa remembered her other ailment before the doctor left. All she mustered up was “my shoulder too…”
The doctor walked over and pulled up the sleeve of her t-shirt. He sighed, then held out her arm and moved it different directions. She winced. “There’s nothing broken or out of place. You might have lightly sprained it though given the level of pain.” He reached into a large bag he’d brought, and it shimmered with gold sparks as he pulled something out.
Am I hallucinating…? Alexa thought.
She felt the man put her in the sling as she grimaced in pain. “Keep that on for 2 weeks, give or take depending on how fast you heal.” She nodded, and she saw him talking to Tony now, before going out to the balcony and… flying away?
She turned to Tony, who was helping her up. “Time to go to your room kid.” He said, guiding her to the elevator.
“I can do it…” she grumbled and pressed the button. Everything felt fuzzy. Alexa felt like a captive in her own body.
She didn’t have the energy to stay awake, but she knew that if she got some charge that she’d heal much faster. She always had. So she took her pillow and set it against her balcony railing, and sat down leaning against it and feeling the evening breeze flow over her skin like waves. The moon was already out, and her veins began to take it in. She instantly felt her mind clear, as if the rain clouds had dispersed. She also felt the pain in her shoulder weaken. It was a wave of overall relief, as she watched the lights of the city move and twinkle.
She woke up in the middle of the night. Had she really fallen asleep on the balcony? Her legs shifted uncomfortably as she stood up, stomping her feet to regain their feeling. She looked at her arm, still slung loosely against her body. The memories of the day before flooded back and a wave of anxiety and exhaustion fell over her mind. Where was Loki now? Was he cuffed to a med bed or was he returned to his cell… and how did he escape in the first place? And why? She had so many questions, she felt like she couldn’t process them all.
Alexa stumbled down the hall after taking the elevator. She saw light drifting out of his cell. Yes, maybe he’s here… she thought.
Sure enough, there he was, lying once more on his tiny mattress. This time though, his injured arm was sprawled out to the side of him, probably to avoid the pain of accidentally rolling onto it. For a moment, she stood there, just looking at him through the one-way wall.
She wanted to stay here. Right here. Not wake him up, or ask him anything. Not continue the dramatic shit-fest.
She just wanted to lay where she could see him and know he was there, that he was the same person she had spent the night with.
She wanted to freeze this moment and stay in it. Suddenly, she had an idea, and realized how weird it was… but didn’t care. If I want to stay here damn it I’m going to.
Fully aware of her clouded judgment, she took the elevator up to her room and summoned her bedding to follow her. She walked it to the cell hall, and looking like a ghost made of bed, it followed. It lied down on the floor for her. She wrapped herself in, and her pillow fluffed itself under her sore neck until she was perfectly comfortable.
She lied there, as close to the wall as she could be, and watched Loki as he slowly breathed in and out, his resting face towards her. She felt that ache again... that pull in her chest. As if her soul was pulling her into the cell where Tony’s captive slept.
She then wondered what it would be like if Loki was free, would they have still come together?
Then she recalled the things he had said to her... how hurtful he had been. And still, Alexa decided that she needed to give him another chance. Something about this, all of this, was off. Nothing quite added together in a way that made sense.
But yet, nothing really did. Her mind felt as if scrambled eggs had replaced her brain cells. She decided to stop trying to think things through- it was giving her a headache, so her mind began to wander.
That song that they kissed to was playing itself in her mind on repeat as she watched him. Part of her thought she could actually hear it. Maybe she could. This time, the sad lyrics fit what she felt as she looked at him, but the beautiful sound still held the perfection of their night together. She wanted to go back to that night, back to when everything was okay. Watching him there, she drifted off to sleep once more.

—————————————————
As soon as Alexa pulled back from his lips, Loki rested his forehead against hers. It was colder than she’d expected. She got brave and moved towards his lips again. To her surprise and embarrassment, he turned his head away. His eyes were focused on the floor, but by his demeanor, she thought he was just trying to be focused on anything but her.
Oh god…Alexa thought. She desperately tried to figure out what he was feeling.
“I’m sorry Loki I shouldn’t have…”
She was cut off. “No. It’s not that…”
His eyes returned to hers. His face appeared a mix of anger, frustration, anxiety, sadness.
Alexa was about to speak when he came out with, “Are you real. Is this real. I can’t do this again. Every horrid thing in my life has begun under the guise of love. Falling for it again instead of continuing my content solitude…I hate it. I know I’m just going to be hurt again and made to look like a fool.” his voice was almost a whisper.
Alexa looked at him. “I know.” Her voice cracked as she tried to hold back tears. “I feel that way too.”
He looked up at her, looking out of breath as if anxiety would overtake him at any moment.
“But I’ve chosen to try for more than contentment in solitude.” She placed her hand on his cheek. He seemed to melt into it, closing his eyes and barely pushing his face into her palm. “My life only has a few moments, remember?” Alexa said with a tearful grin. “Loki…if I ever hurt you I would probably want to give up the rest of my moments…for being like all the other thorns in your life… it would cause me so much guilt and pain that the rest of my moments would be too miserable to continue on with.”
Her words seemed to help him while also overwhelming him, to have someone who appeared to care so much.
They sat in silence for a moment. Loki still seemed anxious.
“Hey… let's get you to sleep.” She said in the most gentle voice she could. “We might be able to eat breakfast together tomorrow.” Her gentle smile caught his eyes and caused him to relax some of his tense muscles. He closed his eyes and nodded, stood and made his way to the bed, his strong feet padding across the hard floor.
As he pulled himself under the blankets and used his magic to get undressed, Alexa went to her bedside table and pulled out a spare mobile charger that she’d kept plugged in all day to help her get through the night. Her jacket was already slung over her arm and she shoved the charger into her small black purse. “Goodnight Loki,” she said in the warmest tone she could.
He didn’t say anything. As she reached the door, she found it was locked.
What the...she yanked harder at the knob.
For a moment she was concerned until she saw the green glow the doorknob shined with. She slowly turned around and raised her eyebrows at the man who lied in her bed on his side, staring at her with a shit-eating grin.
“Oh, problems with the door, Petal? That’s a shame. I guess you’ll have to stay.” She just realized how sexy his accent was, and it seemed to come on stronger at times. Like now.
“Loki.” Alexa rolled her eyes.
“What?”
“….LLLoki”
He raised his eyebrows innocently.
Without breaking eye contact she placed her hand on the doorknob and jiggled it violently.
He was holding back his laughter.
“Boy!” she said with a laugh.
Loki shrugged and rolled over, his face now out of her view.
“Ok no fuck you. I’m not your prisoner bitch your mine!” Alexa said, laughing.
No response. Though she knew he was laughing to himself.
“Loki!”
No response still.
Something small hit the back of his head. Loki’s hand flew up and felt where it hit, looking around now “What was…”
Another hit.
“Hey!” He said sitting up and looking around, only to see a skittle fly and thump his forehead. He looked at Alexa, who was directing another one from a distance with her finger, not breaking eye contact with him. Her face was smug, her eyebrows raised, and her smile growing. As another began to fling, Loki used his own power and held it back, launching it back at its sender. It hit her hip.
“Oh, bitch you wanna go? Ok, we’re going then” Alexa said, her voice was full of laughter.
This was a side of her Loki hadn’t seen… she was using so much Midguardian slang it seemed that she was finally truly relaxed, and more importantly, having fun.
Loki jumped out of bed, holding a pillow as a shield. 7 or 8 skittles flew at him, a couple hitting him but most he blocked with his pillow. He launched some back, and their room was filled with laughter.
It was beautiful. How these two were so happy with one another. Both of their lives were filled with sorrow and misery, tragedy, and loneliness. But here they were,
throwing candy at each other.
Loki managed to lift an entire bowl of MnMs with his powers and maneuver them without Alexa seeing.
“Ahh!” She let out a squeal as the entire bowl dumped on her head, cold candies falling in her shirt. “Ok, ok you win!” She said laughing, shaking the candy off and looking at the mess around her. Loki’s eyes were so happy. She realized this was likely the only bit of real fun he’d gotten in months.
They laughed and caught their breath for a moment before Loki realized the waste they’d created. “I’m sorry about your sweets...”
“Oh don't worry. If we ate all that we’d end up with heart disease. Did you know that’s the number one killer in this country? I mean honestly, if that maniac wants half the life to die he just needs to help McDonald’s go intergalactic...”
She paused, realizing that shed just brought up Loki’s torturer out of nowhere. She paused and facepalmed herself. “I... I am so sorry. I should not have brought that up that was so-”
Loki stopped her. “It’s alright Petal.” he was giggling at her social clumsiness and didn’t seem too bothered.
With a swirl of Alexa’s fingers, all of the candy flew off of the floor and into the trash can, and the bowls flew to the sink.
Before she could start to assert that really, it was time for her to go, he was in front of her again, once more making her jump.
“Stay” was all Loki said. Alexa looked up at him. “Loki, I need to go charge and…”
“Don’t,” he said it lightly. He was smiling. This wasn’t like a command. It was a request made from someone who was grateful for their few moments and wanted to use each and every one that he could.
She looked at his eyes. They were filled with kindness, not lust. Though with him shirtless in front of her this close she didn’t trust the same of her own. “Fine,” she said rolling her eyes. “I’ll charge tomorrow then. I guess I can sleep tonight.”
Loki appeared to be hiding his level of joy and nodded. “As if you had a choice. I am a prince and a god. You are to obey me, mortal girl.” He said in a booming voice that would have made her nervous if it weren’t for the playful grin that managed to stay in his expression. Alexa rolled her eyes, turned and walked into the bathroom, her pajamas jumping themselves out from the closet and following her.
She came out in a pair of sweats and a graphic tee.
Loki was lying on his side, watching Alexa walk to the bed. She crawled in on the other side and settled in for the night.
For a moment, the two both lied there, staring at the ceiling. There was such a strong tug at her heart from the person lying next to her, she felt almost surely if she looked over she could see it. She wondered if she could… she’d seen others in love. Their souls physically connected when they were side by side as if they held hands... was this that feeling, or was she imagining it?
The feeling was so strong, but she didn’t know if he felt it too. Alexa gathered her courage and gently reached her arm over towards his. When their fingers touched, Loki wrapped his larger hand around hers. They both smiled, and slowly, fell asleep.

~~Beginning of Story~~
—————————————————
As she walked she saw Thor standing aside Loki, who had just been put into shackles. What had he done? She almost asked but felt too shy to utter a word.
Loki didn’t look back at her. He didn’t want to see her face looking at him in restraints, the thoughts that must be going through her mind.
Why did he care? He didn’t, he told himself. She’s just another freak to add to the mix of heroic Avengers that held him prisoner. She was no different from the rest. When she saw how he was to be treated, she’d undoubtedly join the others to fit in like the mindless sheep that mortals are.
They reached the meeting room, and the projection of her cell was quickly turned off, even though it was clear she already knew she had been watched. Everyone turned to look as they entered. Tony introduced everyone to Alexa and her to each of them. She shyly uttered greetings and nodded as they spoke to her. Tony then sat in some lounge chairs in the corner across the room next to the floor to ceiling windows. He patted the seat next to him. Alexa took small but quick steps over to him and sat. Everyone else in the room continued talking to one another, trying to act as if all eyes weren’t on her.
She looked out the window. The view was gorgeous from here, you could see all of New York. It was only then that she comprehended that she was in Avengers tower. She looked to him as he clearly had something to say to her.
“So you’re not here to hurt anyone. We’ve gathered that. Your story checks out with everything we know, but we have no idea how to figure out what happened to you when you were 6. I think the best thing for you to do is stay here while we try to make sense of everything you said. On full moons, we can keep you in a special cell where you and everyone else is safe. Sound good?” He spoke so fast but Alexa took it all in and nodded quickly.
“Great. So yeah we all live here, there’s plenty of rooms. Down to floor 8 and down either hall.” He said, pointing to the elevator.
“If there’s no name tag on it it’s up for grabs,” he said.
“Why do you all live here? I mean you all have different homes and families and all that, right?” She asked.
“ We used to,” Stark replied, “ We all came to live here with our families to be able to communicate better, protect our families, and not lose anyone or become unable to contact them. The press and all that has been bugging a couple of us as well, so it just worked out better for us to all be here for a bit”
“Okay…” Alexa replied. She looked back at the room. “Where’s…” she had to think to remember the name for a moment. “Loki?”
“He sleeps in a cell sort of like yours but with some extra additional security tech” Stark started promptly. “He was the nut-job who released that alien army on NYC a while ago. He’s really not one to trust”
She remembered seeing the horror of that event on the news. How could someone with a soul like that so such a thing? She had seen he was broken, but not evil.
“Wasn’t that months ago?” She asked with the tone of pity for him.
Tony looked at her and said, “ he deserves prison for life Alexa, or worse” Tony said sharply, and suddenly she felt guilty and foolish for mentioning it.
After she saw others leaving the room, she made her way down the hall as well.
She walked down the hall, eyeing the doors with the plaques to the right of each. Seeing their names, the names of the heroes she saw on the news, made things feel a little more real and less like a strange dream/ nightmare. She went to the end of the hall and picked a door with 2 adjacent empty rooms.
The door opened silently and Alexa took in the luxury of her suite. Her shoes slipped off her feet and they slowly stepped across the dark wood floors. She took a seat in a soft chair by the fireplace, and ran her hands over the velvet armrest, and took a moment to admire the fireplace. It was shiny and white, with a glass barrier between herself and the fake wood within. She found a remote on the side table next to her and learned she could control not only the tv, but the fireplace, lights, and even music. She also opened the fridge and found numerous snacks and drinks, so she picked out some yogurt and explored the rest of the suite. She would have liked to eat everything in the fridge, but she knew she should take it slow to avoid getting sick.
Her bathroom was luxury as well, everything was white and gold. There was a vase with a purple orchid standing tall on the counter. She took a quick shower and dried off with an unnaturally soft white towel.
This entire suite screamed of money. She supposed that it shouldn’t surprise her with it being owned by Mr. Stark.
It felt so good to be out of that cell. She had been going insane in there and hadn’t cared. Partially delirious from grief and shock, that had to explain why she felt suicidal and hopeless. She felt saner now and didn’t want to think about how desperate and foolish she’d acted by forcing them to find her someone like her. They probably thought she was awkward and weird, desperate.
Embarrassment overwhelmed Alexa and she went to her bed. She wanted to sleep. She hadn’t been in the moonlight for 3 days, so it was about time. She just wanted to not exist in this reality, just for a moment. To not be conscious in a world where she obliterated her family and home and made a fool of herself afterward.
When she woke up, it was dark. She turned her head to the glass clock next to her bed.
2:48 AM. Pulling the silky purple sheets off her body, she made her way to her balcony. Pushing the sliding door open allowed the cool night breeze to flood her room, and pull her hair from the sides of her face. The moonlight felt so good. It had been a long while since she’d been without it. Eyes closed and head tilted back, Alexa outstretched her arms. The moonlight seeped through her skin and her veins flowed with energy. The whole process was completely silent and peaceful. The only sounds she could hear were the breeze and the hum of city life below.
Once she had her energy back, Alexa found that the night was the perfect time to explore the tower. No one would question her or her intentions. If they did, she was sure she’d feel guilty of something even if she wasn’t, her family always managed to do that. She wandered down the dark hall whose lights faded on with her presence. She came to the elevator. Tony’s words echoed in her mind. He sleeps in a cell like yours. She tried to remember the floor that was. Maybe Loki was awake. She tried 13. She knew it was something around there.
She guessed right. Stepping off the elevator, she saw the hallway with the cell she had been kept in to the right, and the door to the observation room in front of her. The hall was undecorated and bleak. She looked over and saw light pouring through one of the walls. She had been right about the cell. One wall of each has some kind of one way sight on it. Alexa could see Loki inside, but he couldn’t see her.
Once again, his soul was so beautiful she couldn’t help but stop to look at it, and take in all the complexity. Loki was stirring around on his mattress that was far to small for how tall he was. She went to turn the doorknob and realized it was locked with a code and keypad.
Alexa knew by now that the moon changed phases every 3 to 4 days. She should be phasing into the last quarter by now. She would have her powers of heat. She might be able to melt the metal to get in.
No. That is the dumbest idea you’ve ever come up with. The door is probably alarmed, and even if it wasn’t… what would Loki think? You barging into his cell in the middle of the night without warning… Alexa thought to herself. What’s gotten into her? Why would she even consider that was a good idea. And yet, looking at him struggling to sleep, she considered it again. No.
Instead of immediately doing something socially unacceptable, she decided to continue to wander the tower. Re-entering the elevator, she pressed the one labeled H. The elevator pulled her upwards, and when the doors opened she quickly realized this would be her favorite floor. The wind overwhelmed her as it rushed into the elevator. She was looking over a wide, flat expanse of smooth pavement. The helicopter pad. It was immense, and she loved the amount of free space she had to herself. All of it was outside, and so high up she could see the entire city with all its scattered messy glow. The wind from this high was almost deafening. She looked across the river and saw a plane taking off in the distance. She loved the city. Especially from above. She’d never understood people who were afraid of heights. How could one be afraid of something so removed from the world, yet able to see all of it? It was gorgeously peaceful.
Alexa walked to the railing and took off her shoes. Sitting down, she rested her arms and head on the cold railing that was glowing from the reflection of her silver veins. Her feet dangled over the edge of the tower, and the cool breeze tangled between her toes.
She felt truly at peace for the first time since she arrived here. It was remarkably fast that she felt so at home… but why? This place was as far from home as she could be. No woods, just skyscrapers. Hardly any stars through the city glow. No family.
No. She did have a family. She realized at that moment why she felt so comfortable… she was relieved. She was in a city where she would be accepted, and she didn’t have to hide her power anymore. She could openly charge in the moonlight. She was in a place where many other people with amazing abilities congregated to solve problems of the world. And hopefully, those people would come to be her family.

Chapter Summary: Our story begins, meeting a girl at the biggest turning point in her life, with no idea of the adventure to come.
Contains: A flashback, heavy tragedy/ destruction
Word Count: 780
~Next Chapter~
—————————————————
Slowly, she opened her eyes. She looked around. Everything, and I mean everything, was gone. Rubble lied in sharp rigid piles, concrete chunks jutting out of them. Surrounding her were the shattered walls and floorboards of the only home she’d ever known.  She couldn’t contain her emotions and the hatred she felt for her own existence. I did this. I turned something so beautiful, so innocent, so real, into this.
The story of how she got to this point is long and complicated, I’ll make it as short as I can. At the age of 6, she was outside her home. She lived out on the edge of town, there was a large forest nearby and it was her personal playground. She was wandering around her makeshift clubhouse, exploring, making maps. But on this night, she was alone in her boots, marching through the crunching leaves and forest floor. As she explored, she saw something- something she’d never seen in her few years of exploring these woods at night.
It was light. She was out in the night, which was always her favorite time to be in the woods. It was so serene in the moonlight, and she found her happiness looking at the stars through the canopy of the woods. So this mysterious light caught her attention. She walked towards it. It was blueish white in hue and was getting brighter the closer she got. Being six and fueled by adventure, this girl wasn’t as wary as she should have been.
She stumbled upon this boulder, the source of her mystery. It was glowing so bright she had to shield her eyes. As she walked up to it and tentatively reached out her hand, some sense of fear starting to develop in her. This was an unknown object and she felt eerily repelled but also attracted to it. She pulled back her delicate fingers deciding against touching this thing. But, curiosity overcame her fear and she outstretched her hand and touched the rock.
She could never fully remember that moment. All she knew was that either she went deaf, or the thing exploded, silently. It was an explosion of color and white light that launched her tiny figure backward into a tree.
When the girl awoke, it appeared to be the same night. The woods were calm. But the glow of the rock had vanished, leaving her surrounded in darkness. She tried to move and quickly realized she was bruised, but nothing appeared to hurt enough to be broken. What did shock her is when she looked at her body.
She was glowing. Specifically, her veins. They glowed in her hands and down her arms. In her shock, she had taken a while to realize that she was bleeding as well. There were shards from the explosion all over her, penetrating her pale skin. The shards were black, but sort of transparent like glass. She gritted her teeth and pulled them out, luckily they were small and she didn’t end up making herself bleed out.
That was the night it all started. She went home and couldn’t sleep. Not as if she couldn't find a comfortable position or keep her eyes shut. It wasn't that her mind was wandering too far to be kept to her pillow, no. She couldn’t sleep. She didn’t need to. She was awake as if it were midday. She stayed up and played with some of the toys littering the floor until morning. She wanted to tell her foster father about the event, but decided against revealing her secret.   Something told her this was not something that others would believe.
After that is when the incidents started. And as she grew, they only became stronger. So strong some nights that they had a mind of their own. She convinced herself that she could keep it under control. That she would will away the inhuman tendencies that overcame her and she would survive.
But tonight was the night she had failed. She could hear herself screaming. Looking at the destruction she’d caused. Surely her family was dead. The only people that would ever love a monster like her had were killed by the baby they graciously took in. She felt hot tears on her face and her breath escaped her. Her vision began to blur. She felt like vomiting. The last thing she heard was the whirl of helicopters. Then, there was only blackness.

Alexa was silent for a moment. Loki watched her reaction and waited patiently for her response. “You love me?”
“I do.” He became nervous when he realized that she looked confused. “Please tell me your thoughts Petal.” He said nervously.
Alexa looked up at him. “Why? I’m mortal. I thought you determined us to be inferior and useless… how could you want to love me if you believe that? I mean if course I knew there was something between us, but…”
Alexa was cut off by his gentle kiss. “I know you are mortal, but you’re the only being who has given me a chance. Not only a chance but welcomed me with open arms and accept my past as it is a part of me.”
Loki was staring down at the sheets beneath them. “Alexa you don’t have selfish intentions. You’ve taken risks and made sacrifices, just to help me be more comfortable. No one has ever done anything like that for me.”
His voice was quiet and low. He finally looked back up at her, and their eyes locked once more. “I love you.”
They kissed again, gently. She couldn’t believe that this wasn’t a dream. He loves me...
“I love you too Loki,” she said into his lips.
After a moment of watching his warm smile, Alexa realized the time. She’d missed lunch. It shouldn’t be a big deal, all the members missed a group meal now and then. “Are you hungry?”
Loki nodded. “Ok, I’ve got something to make…” she said as she rolled over and got off the bed. She went to her closet first and pulled a sundress over her body, and slipped on underwear beneath. Loki watched her contently. She saw him staring and rolled her eyes as she made her way to the kitchen.
She made grilled cheese with tomato soup for the two of them, and Loki wasn’t a huge fan, saying it was far too bland, but he ate it regardless.
The tension from what they’d done only a half-hour ago still hung in the room. Every now and then, Alexa would look at Loki and see those green eyes look at her with the same look he’d given before tearing her leggings off her body. It was once again driving her crazy. But she had other things on her mind, and she wanted those thoughts tended to.
“Loki…”
His attention turned from his plate to her.
“I just… I want to know you. We’re in love but we hardly know anything about each other.”
Loki pondered this for a moment. She was right, there was much to learn of the mortal he’d just confessed his love to.
“Alright. What would you like to know?”
“Well… I’d really like to know about the reason you’re skin is so cold for one.”
Loki nodded. “Alright, Petal... I'll tell you.”
After a moment to collect his thoughts, he explained to her that he was half frost-giant. How his father had taken him from a battle when he was an infant, how he didn’t know until he was an adult.
Alexa listened patiently and asked questions when she didn’t understand. “So… what makes you change form? Just anything cold?”
“No, it’s a bit more complex than that. It has to be a certain temperature, I don’t know exactly what though. I just know that it’s fairly extreme.”
Alexa nodded and paused. “Would you be okay with me seeing it?”
Loki looked uneasy for a moment. “Well, yes I suppose but we don’t have anything that…” he stopped when he realized what she was thinking. She could likely trigger it with her skin.
Loki now seemed more nervous. “Petal, it’s really not attractive. I don’t think…”
“It’s you. I don’t care if it’s attractive or not. It’s a part of you. If you’ll let me, I’d love to see it.”
Loki was clearly nervous, but he stood and walked to the couch, motioning her to follow.
He sat down, his body facing hers and she sat cross-legged on the cushion. Alexa looked into Loki’s eyes and saw his fear.
What if she’s disgusted with me…
“Hey…” Alexa said softly.
Loki looked up at her.
“I love you. If you want to keep this to yourself, you can. But I am always going to love you, no matter what you look like.”
Loki took in her words and took a deep breath. He closed his eyes and held out his hands. Gently, she took them in her own and began to make her skin freeze.
She watched in fascination as Loki’s pale skin turned muted blue over his fingers, then his hands, and up his arms. The color spread until he was entirely blue. His eyes remained closed, and she took in the sight of him. He was different, but still him. There were lines along his skin, sort of like markings, that weren’t present before. Then Loki opened his eyes. They were deep red- that she hadn’t expected. Loki looked at her, his eyes full of worry about what she would say.
She leaned forward and kissed him. Gently and carefully. His lips seemed much colder than before, but she wasn’t surprised. Suddenly, he stopped her and backed up, looking afraid. Then his face changed from afraid to surprised. “You can touch me.”
“What?”
“Normally any non-front giant who touches me when I’m like that gets… almost like frostbite. Extreme frostbite that onsets immediately.”
“I mean, my own skin doesn’t hurt me. So maybe when I’m in this phase, I can.”
She then let go of his hands and watched as the blue faded from his body.
“Hey… I love you Loki.” She reached up and touched his face, not realizing her hands were still frozen cold and blue started to spread on his face from her touch. “You’re gorgeous in every form.” As she spoke, his face transformed once more, and she kissed him again. She could almost feel his relief in his every movement. He was quiet when he finally spoke.
“Thank you”
After a pause, he transformed back. Then suddenly, he became his usual mischievous self. “Gorgeous in all forms love?”
“Yes,” she said happily and kissed his nose
“Even this?” He said, and suddenly he was a very creepy looking old man, with a handlebar mustache.
“Oh my Loki, I…”
“What? You said all forms.”
“Ok... yes because I know it’s you”
“How about this?” He became a very sexy woman in a tight dress. “Yep,” Alexa said with a smile.
“Oh but what about this?” And suddenly, Loki had turned into Thor. Shirtless Thor. “Still craving and yearning for love from me?” His voice even changed with each illusion, and he leaned over close to Alexa
Alexa laughed. “I... abstain?” (*)
“Good girl.” He said in his own smiling voice as he became himself once more. They settled down a bit and began to speak more of their pasts.
Loki spoke of Asgard. Even though it wasn’t his true origin, it was his home. When he talked about it, he seemed to beam. He spoke of its beauty and the food, the palace, the mountains, everything. He also spoke of all the secret hiding places and forts he’d created for himself as a child and a teen, that were hidden by illusions from the rest of the world.
“I do hope someday we could go there so I could show you. But I don’t know if I would ever be welcome after what happened.”
Alexa was quiet. By the way he described this place, she wanted to go too. But more than that, she wanted Loki to be innocent so that they could just live their lives together. Everywhere they went, even apparently other realms, she was dating an outcast.
Breaking her train of thought, he asked “What about you? Tell me of the land you came from.”
Alexa smiled and told him about Oregon, on the other side of the country. She told him about the lush valley she lived in, and the small town she’d been raised in.
They kept talking endlessly about their pasts, how others had wronged them, how it had changed them. Their conversation went well into the evening.
Alexa hated to break the talk, but she needed to go to dinner. She also needed to sneak into Loki’s cell and get rid of the food on the plates so that it would seem he had been eating.
At dinner, she sat with Peter and quietly spoke with him about Thunder and how he was doing. He wanted to come to visit, but she told him tonight wasn’t good. She still wasn’t sure exactly where she could hide Loki if he ever wanted to stop by. She couldn’t just keep him in the bathroom, because for one that seemed weird to just shove him in there with nothing to do, but mainly because Peter also would probably need to use the bathroom at some point.
When she returned that night, Loki was already asleep on the couch in front of the TV. The show “Parks and Recreation” was still playing. She’d recommended it to him, she thought it was funny, but apparently, it bored Loki to sleep. She quietly pulled a blanket off of their bed and laid it over him. Then she leaned down and kissed his forehead.
Alexa spent the rest of that night playing with little Thunder, cleaning up their suite, and soaking up the moonlight from the helicopter pad.
As lonely as it could be, she loved having the nights all to herself. It was as if it was something only she had, even though she knew others in the world were awake, most weren’t. As the world slept, she was forever awake, able to have all this time that others didn’t. And it was all just for her. She sometimes felt that she could get away with anything because no one was there to see it.
Another day passed, and it was fairly uneventful. Alexa spent the day cuddling with Loki, watching Netflix and having him taste-test more Midguardian delights. It was so nice to spend this much time with someone she was so carefree with. It was foreign, to be so comfortable with another person, and yet she was more at peace then she had ever been. Loki felt the same. He trusted her, which was something he couldn’t ever say of anyone else in the tower or in his life at the moment.
The next evening, what Alexa called her ghost phase began to fade in. She could go through walls and float in the air as if she were in space. When she was in the height of this phase, with some effort she could even turn transparent, becoming fully what was essentially a ghost. She had been excited about this, as it provided plenty of opportunities to play tricks on her lover.
That night, Loki decided he’d shower before heading to bed. She saw her opportunity. When he wasn’t looking, she went outside and told him she would be charging for a while. Instead, she quickly floated up and faded from the outdoor balcony into the bathroom through the wall. She couldn’t be invisible just yet, but she slipped into the tub, and the shower curtain was still closed, so he couldn’t see her when he entered. She heard him sigh and she assumed he used his magic to undress because she didn’t hear any zippers or clothes hit the floor.
It was at that moment that she realized this would be the very first time she’d ever see him naked.
Do I really want this moment to be like this? A prank? Really?
Suddenly frantic, she tried to fade back through the wall behind her. Due to her moment of panic, however, she didn’t have full control and she immediately faded through the floor, not floating. With a thud, she hit the floor of the room below.
…Ow. Her back hurt from the fall, and she quickly realized the horror that she had just fallen, in her pajamas, into someone else’s private room.

~~Beginning of Story~~
—————————————————
The next morning, Loki woke to a wonderfully sweet aroma filling their room. Alexa was at the small stove, messing with something in a pan.
She’d gotten bored that morning and decided to make Loki breakfast.
Without warning, she felt his cool hands wrapping around her waist. She took a sharp breath in, then immediately calmed at the sound of his voice.
“Good morning petal” he spoke softly in her ear with his warm, deep voice. “What are you preparing for me?”
“Bold to assume it’s for you” Alexa smiled.
He nibbled her ear gently, causing her heart rate to speed up. “Bold to assume I wouldn’t steal it if it wasn’t.” His tone was so smooth and deep beyond sexy in the morning. It gave Alexa chills.
He unwrapped his bare arms from around her and looked at what she was doing.
“They’re called Crepes. Have you had them before?”
She glanced back at Loki who shook his head.
“They’re my favorite breakfast food.” She scooped up the one in her pan and flipped it onto a plate. “You fill it with all this. You can make it however you want. There’s berries, powdered sugar, chocolate syrup, lemon juice, yogurt, and a bunch of other stuff.”
Loki listened intently. “Well, it smells delicious.”
“It is. Oh and whipped cream. My favorite combination is whipped cream, raspberries, powdered sugar, and a dash of lemon juice.” She created her masterpiece as she spoke, and he watched her. When she shook up the whipped cream and dispensed it, she saw him raise his eyebrows. “What in Valhalla is that…”
“Oh, it’s whipped cream.” Suddenly, Alexa got brave in front of her shirtless god. She dispensed some on her finger, walked so close to him they were chest to chest and held it up to his mouth. He looked at her, surprised, then saw the mischievous look on her face and she saw the corner of his mouth upturn. He took her cream-covered finger into his mouth and sucked on it a bit, then licked it for good measure.
“Mmm,” he hummed. “That is unexpectedly delightful.” He knew it had aroused her, and he saw her blush to prove it.
As she set the table, Alexa had a nagging question and had to break the mood. “Loki… I have a question.”
He raised his eyebrows at her expectantly.
“Why are you always so cold? Like I’ve just noticed with little things. Like your tongue and mouth are cold, and your bare skin… you always seem unnaturally chilling. Is that just me? Is it a god thing? or Asgardian thing?”
His demeanor changed entirely. “No Petal- it’s not just you. It’s part of me I really don’t want to share at the moment.” He touched her chin, tilting her head up. “I want to enjoy this breakfast with you, and I will explain it later.” He smiled warmly, kissed her forehead, and turned back to the counter to prepare his food.
Alexa was not one to let things go, she wanted an answer. But the fact that he wanted to spend the morning with her warmed her heart and she forced herself to wait.
He loaded his crepes with berries and sugar as she had. Alexa sat at the table and ate, and Loki soon joined her with his food. His first bite left his face looking surprised. “I must say your Midguardian food continues to surprise me.” He said as he cut another bite with his fork.
Alexa was about to reply when she heard a knock.
Both their eyes widened and she frantically stood up and roughly whispered. “Hide fucking hide!”
Loki slipped silently into the bathroom and Alexa put his dish on the counter so it wouldn’t look like the table was seated for two. Whoever was at the door knocked again.
“Coming!” She rushed over, took a deep breath, smoothed herself out, and opened the door.
Peter.
“Ok so I know this is weird and it’s early and I’m sorry cuz you were probably asleep but maybe not cuz u live on moon juice or whatever right, but I found something and I didn’t know what to do so I picked it up and I thought if I went to anyone else they’d make me get rid of it or something and I don’t want to and I don’t know what to do.”
“Peter… What?”
He pulled a kitten out of his sweatshirt.
There was a moment of confused silence.
“Peter why the fuck… why do you have a kitten”
“I just told you I found it and it’s really cute right and, ok so I found it cuz I went to McDonald’s because I wanted hash browns and this guy had a whole box of them so I was like aww cute right and then someone else came and was looking at them and I went inside and ate my hash browns and then I came back out cuz I was done and there was literally just one kitten left and The guy was all like “this one has your name on it kid” and I was like no cuz I live in Avengers tower and like I don’t think they allow pets right but it’s not like I signed a lease or whatever so I don’t know, but of course I didn’t say that to the old guy I was just like “no thanks” and then he set down the box and was like it’s yours and I didn’t know what to do but he left and there was just the one and I had to come back but now I have a kitten.”
Alexa stared blankly at him for a moment. “Peter what the fuck”
“Could you keep it in here? Just cuz like I don’t have a way of keeping it because Mr. Stark is always coming in my room you know and like talking to me about training or helping me train or making me meet a new bodyguard because they quit a lot and I really don’t think Mr. Stark would like Thunder.”
“Thunder?”
“Oh yeah cuz he’s gray I thought his name could be Thunder but like we don’t have to name him that I just thought it fit him with his paws cuz they seem too big for his body and I just think if we could keep him here, and then I could take care of him you’d just have to let me in now and then. Then we could also hang out more too cuz like I thought that maybe we could be friends because everyone else here is literally like a thousand years old, I mean a couple of them actually are let’s be real. So will you do it? Can he stay here?”
He didn’t know how much he was asking. Having him pop in and out all the time would seriously endanger Loki to being found out.
“Peter I really can’t…”
Upon seeing he was about to get rejected, he got a little more desperate.
He tilted his head and began to beg her. “Pleaseee please please cats are like so low maintenance and I’ll buy everything just please…”
“Oh my god, fine Peter I’ll-”
“Oh my god YES thank you so much I will go get everything and we can keep it a secret ok and do you want to name it Thunder?”
Alexa looked down at the little cat. “Sure, why not.”
“Ok sweet I will deal with all of it thank you thank you thank-”
Alexa cut him off. “Ok but you need to understand something. You ALWAYS knock ok? And I’ll take care of him most of the time just if you get the supplies and come by when you want to play with it then that will be fine.”
“Ok sweet I will do that okay and here you go, he’s still really fragile and I think he likes cheez-its, but I’ll get him real kitten food and all that”
“Ok Peter. I’m gonna go back in my room now.”
“Right ok so bye I’ll see you later then thank you so much.”
She shut the door. Holding a kitten.
Loki walked out of the bathroom. He walked up to her, and she realized what a mistake she’d just made when she saw his face. “Have you gone mad?” He spat.
The kitten chose that moment to let out a tiny, high pitched “mew”
He stared at the creature, then at Alexa. “We are on day one of this and you’ve given access to our room to that loose cannon of a boy?”
Alexa was quiet. “ I know. I’m sorry. I really think it will be fine I told him to always knock and…”
“What you’ve done was foolish. What if stark hears about this creature and decides to check in on me?”
“I’m sorry Loki.” He turned away from her, grabbing at his hair.
“I just, I kind of also wanted a pet.”
He turned and looked at her. “Why? Are you so lonely? I’m right here. I’m bloody locked in your room. I don’t understand why you would have a desire for this infant mammal.”
“Because, Loki... You sleep.”
Loki looked at her and realized he hadn’t thought about what she had to do for all those hours of the night, and how no one was awake but her. He looked at the kitten again and sighed.
“Thunder, is it?”
“I guess so”
She vaguely heard Loki mutter something under his breath something about the concept of Thunder and it’s unending capacity to fuck up his life.
Loki reached down and picked him up. “The name suits the bastard,” he said roughly. Alexa was looking at the animal, a bit worried for it in Loki’s large, tense hands.
His anger had calmed. “I suppose if it pleases you…” and handed the furball back to her.

—————————————————
Alexa stood on the balcony and outstretched her good arm in the moonlight. It once again was giving her the blissful relief from her otherwise constant pains and aches. Her veins flowed with the blue-white glow and she took a moment to look up at the moon. It was almost the first quarter. Her telekinesis would be weak by now, and her powers of water and freezing were taking over.
The sound of the door opening behind her made her jump. Loki walked out, looking at her in awe.
Oh, right. He’d never seen her charge before. She looked at him and smiled.
“It’s magnificent…” he said. He held out her arm as if he was looking at a specimen, and his eyes ran up and down her veins as if he were slowly reading. When she looked at his face it seemed he was searching his mind for an answer to the question in front of him… how does this work?
She wanted to know too, but given that it had been years since it started her curiosity was mostly diminished.
He finally made eye contact with her, and he seemed to remember the power he had that he now had the freedom to use. He stepped closer to her. “You’re a magnificent creature Alexa.” His voice was so smooth and low, it gave her chills. However, she could tell he wasn’t fully committed to seducing her at the moment, as he looked down at her arms again, squinting with curiosity.
She looked down at the city and became lost in thought. They were quiet for a moment, both in their own minds. “What are we doing Loki?”
He looked at her and tilted his head questioningly.
She continued. “What are we going to do? Someone will realize that the thing in the cell isn’t real eventually.”
He thought for a moment, and they both looked down at the city below them.
“What if we leave? Right now. Tonight.” He looked at her, his eyes filled with intensity. “I’ll take you somewhere safe. We could just go, right now.”
Alexa thought for a moment, then remembered Stark’s announcement at dinner that day. “No, we couldn’t get you out. Tony added a whole bunch of security after your escape. It’s even targeted to stop your illusions…”
Loki looked irritated, and let out what sounded like a curse under his breath, in a language she didn’t know. “I could get past them”
“I don’t want to risk that.” Alexa was assertive. She’d just gotten Loki back and wasn’t going to lose him on their first night.
They searched for more options. “You can fly,” Loki said. You could put us on something and float us to the ground. From this very balcony.”
“Not anymore I can’t…the heaviest I could do right now is like, a grocery bag”
He looked at her and sighed. “Right.” He knew he couldn't manage something like that either.
“But we could do that. We just have to make it through a lunar month.” Alexa said, “We just have to keep you here, hidden. I’ll buy food and bring it here to cook in the room, and we’ll get through it.”
Loki looked at her somberly. “Petal... I don’t think we could keep up the rouse for that long. Someone would find out. Do you think,” he paused, knowing to continue his next words with caution. “We could use the full moon?”
Alexa’s head quickly turned to face his. Her brow was furrowed. She simply shook her head. She would not be doing that.
Then another thought occurred to her, what would they do when they did escape? Her powers on the full moon were only growing. Loki would be in danger with her. She didn’t even know the death count from her last full moon, but she knew it included her family.
“I’m sorry,” he said softly, seeing her concern. “I won’t ask again.”
She smiled at him and nodded.
They both stood, leaning on the railing in silence for a moment, listening to the sounds of the city. It was sort of surreal, looking at the expanse of twinkling concrete towers. Looking at the massive area that they needed to get to while being unable to get to it.
Finally, Alexa broke their silence. “You should get sleep, I’m sure you’re exhausted.”
Loki hated to admit it, but she was right. The pain had drained him. Alexa slid open the door and he followed her inside.
He slipped into bed and she lied down next to him, over the blankets. As he lied there, he seemed to be trying to memorize her, her eyes, her face, the way her hair fell down her shoulders as she lied there on her side, facing him.
“Do you think we can actually do it? Pull this off?” Alexa asked him.
“For a life with you my Petal,” he brushed a strand of hair from her face. “I will do whatever it takes.”
His words made her heart soar. She realized at that moment. She was in love. She was in love with a god, and he was lying there in her bed, telling her he wished for a life with her.
They lied there together until Alexa was sure that Loki was asleep, then she headed out for the night. She made her way to the nearest 24-hour grocery store and stocked up for what she’d need to keep Loki fed for a while. She gathered a lot of basics, but also a lot of typical American foods, just to have the experience of letting him try them.
When she’d been given a room in the Avengers Tower, Tony had given her a “leisure card” to use for outings, clothes, snacks, etc. She wasn’t sure how much was on it, but knowing Tony it was more than enough. She paid and took the bags back to the tower and into her room, where Loki still lied, sound asleep.
After putting the food in her cupboards, she stayed in the room that night, just being in Loki’s presence. It was the most peaceful feeling, knowing he was safe after all the chaos.
She had a lot of time to think, and her mind raced from one problem to another. She thought about Tony and what he had done. He was arrogant, but not irrational. Why did he punish Loki so severely… and forbid him from talking to her? Tony had said he was trying to protect her from Loki. She supposed that made sense with Loki’s past.
But he had still hurt him. Tortured him practically. She remembered his sound, in the park. His scream of pain. Even though she was in a daze at the moment she heard him, the memory was crystal clear.
She was livid with Tony, wanting him to feel what he’d made Loki feel. But she knew that wasn’t possible. She needed to play the part, play normal, keep going to Stark’s lab until she and Loki could escape.
Their escape. Thoughts of that plagued her mind as well. Where would they go? She missed Oregon, maybe they could get their hands on a car and go there. A road trip with Loki. The thought of it made her smile. She’d take him to American landmarks and national parks, listen to him talk about how insignificant they were in comparison to Asgard. Taking Loki to a drive-thru. A movie. An arcade. These thoughts made her feel warm. It gave her hope. Hope that this insane idea of hiding Loki for an entire month would actually work. Hope that maybe, the god that she was falling in love with would be able to love her back until the end of her days.

—————————————————
When Alexa woke, her eyes fluttered open to the sight of Loki’s cell. He was awake, staring up at the blank ceiling. She recalled everything that had happened, but her head still felt clouded. She longed to hold him in her arms and know what was going on, why had he run…
“Hey”
A voice that wasn’t hers or Loki’s shocked her out of her thoughts. She gasped and scrambled back, failing to gain traction with her one palm against the silky sheets on a polished concrete floor.
It was Peter. He was sitting awkwardly several feet away, by the entrance to the cell hall. “I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to scare you! I was just wandering around and I got the memo about what happened yesterday and I wanted to see how bad Loki’s arm was which I guess was stupid cuz its all bandaged up but then I saw you and I wasn't sure when you'd wake up so I waited for a bit cuz maybe you’d wanna talk or have help putting your bed back or-”
“It’s ok Peter…” as she sat up, her head began to throb. “You scared the shit out of me though.” She rubbed her forehead, suddenly realizing the embarrassing situation she was in. How could she explain why she was sleeping outside Loki’s cell?
“I was um, my room was too hot and I…”
“It’s okay.” Peter was smiling. “You don’t need to do that. I get it. When I had a concussion a couple years ago I did some craaazy stuff in my sleep too. Oh like this one time I went to the fridge to get something to eat and poured some milk but I forgot the cup and it went everywhere and, sorry for scaring you though.” He awkwardly looked around, as if he needed to ask her something but wasn’t sure how to get there.
It was now that Alexa realized that though Peter was younger than her, he was the closest person to her age here.
“I heard about your head and arm and stuff. Tony told us what happened.” He said. “You seriously flew a skateboard?”
“What? Oh, yeah I did. Didn’t go too well”
She felt embarrassed still. The urge to explain away her stupidity overwhelmed her. Before she could speak though, Peter did.
“I mean you still did it, I mean come on that had to be the coolest thing! How fast did you go? Were you like standing on it like a surfboard or like hanging on like a hang glider?”
Oh my god. That’s what he wanted to know about, that’s why he was here. This sixteen-year-old boy had come down here and waited for her to wake up, just to hear the story of how she piloted a skateboard over New York.
It felt good. He didn’t care that she was an idiot, that perusing Loki was undoubtedly a bad decision, he didn’t care about any of that. Because she flew a god damn skateboard.
After a brief pause, Alexa started laughing, and Peter followed suit.
“Yeah, you know what,” she said between chuckles, “I sat on the skateboard like a horse right, cuz I’ve never even used a skateboard. And it started beelining across New York like I was in a freaking wormhole.” She was laughing with her words. “I flew a skateboard that when it got where I wanted to be, launched me into a fucking tree.” Peter’s eyes brightened. “Oh my god!” he giggled in his young, boyish voice. They both suddenly were in a laughing fit. It felt so good. The previous day was so beyond shitty and making a joke of it somehow made it feel like she’d be okay. Still laughing, Peter pulled out his phone. “Wait wait wait I got it,” he said.
She looked at him. “What??” She was still laughing. He held up one finger, showing her to wait. Their laughter died down a bit, and she checked her phone. Then after a minute, Peter was cracking up again. He couldn’t stop. “WHAT PETER OH MY GOD” he turned his phone to her.
He literally made a fucking meme. It showed a picture of the Lion King scene, with the monkey labeled “a fucking flying skateboard” and the lion baby labeled “u” and the next pic had the lion being chucked through the air, with YEET written across the sky.
Why that was so funny, she couldn’t explain. But Peter and her sat there laughing until tears stained her cheeks. It was one of those moments where the second you stopped laughing, you’d look at each other and immediately lose control again. It went on for far longer than it should have.
“Ok ok come on,” Peter said, holding his stomach. “Let’s get your stuff back up to your room.”
“Oh, I can just send it” Alexa replied.
He looked at her, confused for a moment before his eyes widened as she flicked her wrist and everything on the floor rolled itself into a ball and shot out of the hall and into the stairwell.
There was a moment of silence
“Well ok, sure you can just tell stuff what to do that’s cool, totally cool, that’s fine.” He said, and it was clear he was trying to keep his composure and not completely lose his shit over what he just saw. “I’m going to go to breakfast. You coming or does the breakfast just come to you is that how that all works...”
Alexa paused and looked in at Loki alone in his cell. “I’ll be there in a bit”
“Okay sounds good,” Peter said and he trotted quickly out of the hall, breakfast outweighing the confusion of what he’d just seen in his mind.
As soon as she knew she was alone, she went to press the speech button, then stopped. She looked at his face, as he stared at the ceiling evidently thinking of something. She didn’t want to do this through a wall. She wanted to wait until tonight. She’d open his door and they could really talk, the way that they should.
The day felt long. Loki was obviously not at the group meals anymore, Clint seemed to be giving Tony an “I told you so” vibe with everything he did. Most of her day was spent in her suite, watching tv or resting her aching head and shoulder. She also had a good number of bruises and scrapes from her fall that she kept tending to throughout the day.
That night at dinner, Tony stood up to make an announcement. “Ok, I get you’re all pissed about his escape. I do. It’s reasonable. He’s not coming to meals anymore. But we are making some changes as an additional precaution. After checking cameras it looks like he escaped by using illusion to look like a civilian and conjuring a fake guard after dinner to escort him that night. What I’ve come to find out,” Stark paused. “Is that that particular ability is stopped whenever an electrical shock is administered. Even a small one.” He explained. “So, I’ve come up with this.” He pressed a button and a projection shot up at the head of the table. “It’s like a doorframe that administers many minor shocks so small that you can’t feel them. They’ll be at every exit and entrance to this building we’ve got. It won’t only be for Loki, any small electrical device such as a bomb will also be detected and deactivated.” Tony continued to explain the technology, but most of his in-depth explanations went over her head. Lastly, he said they were adding more security guards to the exits and entrances as well. Alexa waited for the presentation to be over, and quietly left as soon as it was.
Midnight of that evening arrived, and she was well prepared to speak to Loki again. She’d thought through what he’d done, and what she wanted to know. She had her notebook with her, and she wrote down all of the questions she needed answers to. Alexa wasn’t good with confrontation, and once she saw his face again she would probably forget everything she meant to speak with him about if she didn’t have it in front of her.
it was possible that what he said was true, that he despised her... but this entire week had been so upside down, she had to give him another chance. Just one more.
When she reached his cell just after midnight, she looked inside and melted. He was crying. He was holding his head in his hands and crying. She first pressed the communications button. “Loki?”
He jumped, wiping the tears from his face. He immediately got up and ran to the one-way wall, and looked into it, looking desperate, then he did something even weirder.
He held up his bracelet to his mouth and replied coarsely. “When will you learn to leave me alone!” Then he lowered his wrist and shook his head, his eyes filled with tears.
Oh my god. The bracelet isn’t just a tracker.
Loki held up a finger to his lips.
It was listening. It was recording what he said.
She let go of the com button and watched him. He then pointed to the door, holding a finger to his lips, looking desperately at the wall that he could not see her through. After punching in the key code, she quietly opened the door.
Loki immediately hugged her. She grimaced. He was too rough on her shoulder. It was then that he looked at her and realized her injury. He ran his hand gently on her forearm and looked at how it hung delicately in the white sling.
Loki was no longer crying, he looked livid. He saw her notebook in her other arm and quickly snatched it from her and sat down. She followed his lead and sat in front of him, holding the door with her body. He made a writing motion with his hand.
Alexa shoved her hands into her pockets violently and found a single, almost broken pencil. She quickly gave it to him. So much of what was happening already made so much more sense and their silent conversation began.
He saw her list of questions and looked up at her, and turned the notebook over to a blank page. He scribbled quickly, then handed the notebook back to her.
“Who did this to you?”
The fact that that’s why he was angry and that it was the first thing he wanted to know made Alexa feel something, but she had so many feelings right now that she couldn’t process that one, so she shoved it down.
She wrote back. “No one. I crashed when I was trying to ride something using telekinesis.” She turned the notebook to face him. That was the truth. He didn’t need to know that the only reason she was forced to try that was to search for him right now.
He looked skeptical. Then Alexa turned the notebook back to her list of questions, looking at what one she wanted him to answer first. Before she could choose, Loki took the book from her hands, flipped a page as quietly as he could, and then wrote, “can I explain”
Alexa nodded, her heart racing. She waited as he sat there, writing vigorously as if his life depended on it.
When he handed it back to Alexa, everything she needed to know was understood. How he was being listened to, how he was forbidden to speak to her, how Tony had threatened to send you elsewhere. How he was being shocked if he tried to tell her the truth. The story of the day he ran, how he created an illusion guard that escorted him out of the tower instead of to his cell. How he shape-shifted into a normal-looking citizen and was trying desperately to find a way to remove the bracelet. Melting wouldn’t work given that the prongs that sunk into his skin were along the entire thing. He thought maybe if he could smash it, it would release its grips in his flesh. Nothing was working as he slammed his wrist against a rock in Central Park. When he could hear the sound of the Avengers tower alarm in the distance is when he panicked. He began clawing at his wrist desperately trying to rip the thing off of his flesh before Tony came. How he was given shocks rapidly until he blacked out from the pain.
Alexa looked at him, and the bracelet. He was no longer looking at her through tears but through determination. A look of, “what’s the plan?” First, she wrote down “I’m sorry”
Now there were tears on her face. She’d been angry with him, for acting that way when he had no other choice.
He reached out his hand and wiped a tear away with his thumb, shaking his head. His face read “it’s not your fault”
But she couldn’t help but feel that it was. She was the one who was trying to free him in the first place.
Her waves of emotion turned from sadness and pity to anger. No. This was not her fault. It was Tony’s. She had never more wanted to cause someone pain in her entire life. He lied to her, blatantly, and tortured the person she cared for.
Loki’s face had returned to one of urgency. What would they do? What could they do?
After thinking for a moment, she wrote down. “I could try to remove it”
Loki looked at her and raised his eyebrows. Then looked at the bracelet, still wrapped under bandages.
He couldn’t remove it with his power because all he could do was move it. She could command it to release… but what would happen then? Would an alarm sound? Would Tony know the thing had been disconnected…
They were both wondering the same things. Loki could tell by her expression. But he held out his wrist and nodded, his eyes on the floor, thinking of the pain to come. This would not be easy, and he knew it. She knew it too. But what other choice did they have? She refused to let Tony have this power over him any more.

~~Beginning of Story~~
—————————————————
Alexa opened her eyes to the sound of her musical alarm. She was always a light sleeper, so she didn’t need her alarm to be obnoxiously loud or annoying. It was very early morning, the sky just barely beginning to fade from dark to light.
Loki was still sound asleep. When Alexa sat up, he stirred and opened his eyes. He saw her and seemed to be flooded with the memories of the night before. A small smile spread on his waking face. “Good morning Petal”
That nickname never failed to make her heart soar. “Good morning Loki.” Alexa stretched and let out a sigh. “it’s time to go.”
“Ugh. Must you break the moment that quickly?” He complained as he sat up.
“I’m sorry. I don’t want you in trouble. Or me.”
“You know... if someone ever did see us, I could protect you. I could convince them.” He said with a tone of over-confidence, but then his tone softened. “You are safe with me, Petal.”
Alexa rolled her eyes. “Well, I’d rather prevent the need for that altogether. Let's go.”
They walked to the cell quietly. Passing all the other doors was always the worst part, knowing them getting caught was as simple as someone waking up a bit earlier than normal, or hearing their footsteps.
Once they reached the cell and she punched in the code, he stepped inside once more.
“Maybe I’ll see you at breakfast…”Alexa hated locking him up, and he knew it. Before she shut the door, he reached out and gently ran his fingers along the side of her face. The corners of his mouth formed a small smile, but his eyes were heavy. He didn’t need to say anything. She knew what he was feeling.
As his arm fell back to his side, she shut the door.
A couple people were already at breakfast when she arrived, which made her feel as if they could have been easily caught. She made a mental note to leave earlier next time.
Alexa looked for Thor, hoping to ask him if he’d gotten the chance to speak with Tony.
After about 15 minutes, they walked in together, following the rest of the group. Before she could get Thor’s attention, Tony stood at the head of the table.
“Ok…” he said, clapping his hands together to get everyone’s attention. “So something has been brought to me and I want to know what you all think. We are thinking about allowing Loki to join us for meals. Who’s in?”
Alexa wilted. Why. Why did he only say that? He wants this to fail.
“Why would we do that?” “Do you really think that’s a good idea?” Several members said, looking at Tony as if he were stupid.
Before he could answer, Alexa got brave. She stood up. The room fell silent. “He saved my life. He deserves a chance to continue to prove himself.” Her words were as confident and strong as she could make them, but inside she was filled with anxiety and trying to hold back her tears. This was the only chance she’d get for a long time before she could try again. She couldn’t fail. She couldn’t fail him.
The group was quiet and looked at Tony, who motioned for her to sit. She did. After a moment, Tony sighed. “All in favor?”
There was a moment of no movement. Then to her relief, Thor raised his hand. She shot her up as well. Then Banner, then Peter, then Scott.
But that was all. Alexa realized she’d failed, and looked at Tony. Her stare was begging, as tears welled in her eyes. He looked at her curiously, then looked away as if he were thinking.
“Well it’s my cell and my vote counts for infinity so we’re gonna let him out. Just for meals, completely supervised.”
Protests rang out at the table, but Alexa couldn’t even hear them. She was overjoyed. Tony shut them up with, “if he does anything wrong we can put him back.”
“Unless he escapes” Clint was livid. He was heavily against Tony’s choice.
Tony replied, “he won’t. I’m going to put on a tracking bracelet that’s bound to his skin. I’ll be able to know where he is at all times, even if he shape-shifts or teleports or whatever in hell”
Oh. Alexa swallowed hard. He’d be able to see where Loki was during the night. Unless he didn’t check it… but there would always be a chance.
Clint was still pissed. He got up and left the table only after slamming his fists on it. It was awkwardly quiet as the door shut behind him. “Time to eat,” Tony said cheerily as if nothing was wrong. Alexa tried to catch his attention to mouth him a thank you, but he never looked her way.
He headed for the door, and she hoped it would be to collect Loki. During the next several minutes, she was looking at the door every 5 seconds. She could hardly eat. What was taking so long? Finally, she saw him walk in, next to Stark. She looked at him, but quickly realized…
Something was very, very wrong.
Loki looked upset, no, hurt. No… angry? But he was trying to hide it. He dished up some food and sat far away from her. His eyes stayed on his plate, and nothing else. He ate very little, and quietly. The whole room was quiet. People were glaring at him between their bites, but his eyes never were up to see them.
Fuck. What happened, what did Tony say to him? Or was he just acting, staying stoic to avoid the suspicion of others?
Alexa quickly finished her meal and headed back to her room to get ready for Lab time with Stark. She had some questions for him.
————————————————
Earlier That Morning
————————————————
Loki was waiting in his cell, hoping for the glorious sound of the keypad. He hoped Alexa would be allowed to retrieve him, but he knew the odds of that were low. Who was he kidding, he knew the odds of anyone even considering his release were low. Alexa was smart, but innocent to the way Stark operated. He wouldn’t release him, and even thinking he would be entertaining a fantasy.
His thoughts were interrupted by the keypad. As Stark walked in, Loki hid his surprise and raised his eyebrows at him with a look of disbelief.
“To what do I owe the pleasure?” Loki said smugly.
Tony looked down at him and leaned against the wall to his right. “Whatever you’ve been saying to the girl is stopping now. We all know you are using her to try to escape. That much is obvious. But she’s never had to deal with you before so she’s clearly falling hard for whatever shit you’re pulling.”
Loki looked at him. “As much as that sounds like me I’m actually not trying to trick the…”
“Sure Antlers” he cut him off. “So here’s what’s gonna happen…” He knelt down and locked a bracelet around Loki’s wrist before he could attempt to dodge him. It hurt like hell as it dug into his skin, but he didn’t show it. “You’re not going to speak to the girl. If you do, I’ll receive a happy little notification on here, and I’ll immediately be able to listen in.” Stark said, holding up his phone. “If you are anything but sarcastic, cold, and cruel, you’ll get a nice reminder of where you stand and who you are to this girl. It will feel something like this.”
A shock took over Loki’s body, radiating from his wrist. It was quick but extremely painful. His veins were on fire. It caused him to fall to the floor and curl up. He heard himself let out a yell and was covered in sweat immediately. He glared up at Stark, who continued, “Your scheme was actually working pretty well. The girl campaigned around for you to be allowed to eat with us. Unfortunately, I think not allowing it at this point would cause her to distance from us more than she already has. She’s valuable and I honestly believe she’ll grow into something great as long as we can keep helping her. But that requires her cooperation. If she thinks we are the meanies that locked her god friend in a cage and won’t let him out, that won’t go over so well.” Tony continued. “So, you are going to come to eat with us. Quietly and silently. You will meet any of her friendly advances with sarcasm and harshness. That shouldn’t be too hard, right?” He motioned for him to follow to breakfast. “Oh and honestly she’s a good kid. If you keep this up somehow I’ll just send her to a different facility in Japan or something anyways. Where she will be safe.”
The thought of Alexa being sent away sent Loki into a rage. “She is more safe with me then she would ever be with you in your entire lifetime!” Loki spat his venomous words at him. He couldn’t contain himself. Without looking back, Stark gave him another shock. Loki fell to his knees, breathing rapidly. The shocks were like hot nails digging into his skin. His wrist was red around the bracelet where it held its grip. He tried to remove it, but that was another type of pain entirely... as if he were trying to rip out his own muscle. Suddenly, Tony saw him clawing at the device and double-clicked the button. 2 shocks shook him to his core. It was one of the worst pains he had ever felt in his life. He almost passed out and heard himself scream.
Tony kneeled down and looked at Loki as he panted and held back tears. “I would have gone less harsh but…” Tony shrugged. “Considering you’re literally trying to manipulate young girls I thought this would be fine.”
“I will rip out your eyes you bloody…” Loki spat at him between his panting.
“Ah ah ah…” Stark interrupted him, holding up the button for Loki to see. Loki fell silent, glaring at him viciously.
“Better” Stark said, and roughly brought Loki to his feet and the two headed to the meal room.

~~Beginning of Story~~
—————————————————
The next morning, Alexa arrived early in the grand hall where she was told to go for breakfast. The food wasn’t ready yet, she could tell by the empty buffet counter and the sound of cooks working away in the next room. She was grateful that her phone had been on her during her explosion, though it suffered a cracked screen probably from her fall, it was still functional. It had been sitting on her bedside table along with a bag of her original clothes when she woke up that morning. She had, in fact, decided to go to sleep, even though she didn’t need to. She just got bored without being able to leave the tower yet.
As Alexa played games on her phone to kill time, she heard footsteps. Someone else was early to breakfast too.
“Hello.” The man had a kind voice and sort of awkward demeanor. She recognized him, and now that she was less distracted, she got a better read on his soul.
She always tried not to make it obvious that that was what she was doing, but sometimes it was hard to hide. “Hi,” she said quietly. She didn’t know how she’d failed to notice it before, but this man had an experience very similar to hers. A loss of control that caused others pain. And the grief was heavy.
“Doctor Banner, right?” Alexa tried to hide her distraction.
“Yes,” he said. He proceeded to make small talk with her about how she was liking the place, and how she slept. But then he brought up something she hadn’t thought of.
“So, if you do work with us, what will you call yourself?” She looked at him, appearing a bit confused. “Alexa...?”
“Oh, no, I mean, you know… like your cover name”
Oh. Alexa hadn’t considered this. Were they really accepting her onto their team that quickly? Or had he made assumptions…
Beyond that, she hadn’t even thought about using her powers for good ever before. She was always shamed so heavily for them and using them at all usually resulted in a beating. It would take some getting used to.
“Oh, um, I don’t know.” She replied quietly. She’d never been good at thinking up things like that. “I’m sure I’ll figure it out. But I didn’t know that I was going to be part of the…” she paused. “team…?”
Banner looked surprised and embarrassed “Oh! I’m sorry, I didn’t know if anyone had spoken to you. It sounded like Tony was thinking that you’d be a great addition. As long as we just are cautious on the days that you…” he stopped as if trying to phrase it in a way that wasn’t offensive. Alexa finished for him. “Lose control. It’s ok to say it.” She said with a warm smile. “I still have control of my mind, it’s just the powers themselves go haywire”
“Right” Banner said. It was then that the door opened again. Steve and Natasha. They smiled warmly and sat down a couple chairs, on the other side of the table.
Alexa continued to chat with Banner until the food came out. They all grabbed their helpings of eggs, bacon, toast, and pancakes. As she ate, the rest of the group trickled in over the next hour and grabbed their servings as well. The meal was quiet other than occasional chatter among those who were close, relationship-wise or physically.
“When do they let Loki eat?” She asked Banner quietly. He took a moment to swallow his food. “They have a kitchen worker take him a plate after we’re done”
Alexa nodded, disappointed.
At the end of the meal, Tony stood up.
“New girl,” he said commandingly and waved his hand for him to follow her. Alexa quickly stood and looked around for where to put her plate, until she saw that Tony had left his own on the table, so she set it down and hurried after him. They entered the elevator and went up to the meeting and observation room where she had first been introduced to everyone.
“So.” Tony started. As you know we’re thinking the best thing for us to do is keep you here. For the safety of everyone including you. And in the future…” he took a sip of his coffee. “Possibly become part of the Avengers. If you can learn to control all of those abilities you mentioned... Gah, this shit is cold.” Tony set his coffee on the table in front of him.
I can fix that. Alexa thought. Then she realized that she in actually could. She was in a whole new world and no one would hurt her for using her abilities. And she was growing into her heat and fire phase now and fading out of soul sight... she could certainly heat up a small cup of liquid.
So she looked at the cup, quite focused, and made a slow rising motion with two of her fingers. Steam rose from the mug.
Stark watched her, fascinated and also slightly intimidated.
“It’s hot now,” she said sheepishly. “and yes, if it’s ok, I’d like to stay here long term. I don’t have anyone else to go to. But I don’t know about the whole Avengers thing yet… I just don’t think I’d be good enough.” Tony looked at her. “Natasha’s here and her ass is normal. Toned but normal. You have…” he paused and gestured at her hands “this. Trust me, you’ll be just fine.” He stood up, picked up his hot coffee, patted her shoulder, and left the room.
As soon as he was gone, Alexa quickly made her way to the hall. They take him a plate after the others are done. Maybe if she asked the cooks, she could take it to him today instead. But as she was about to enter the elevator, it dinged and a woman in an apron carrying a plate stepped out. It was then that Alexa realized it wasn’t just the leftovers from this morning. The food wasn’t even reheated in a microwave. A cold pancake with nothing on it, a glass of water, and a very brown banana. The cooks must hate him… she thought. That was reasonable… they could have lost family members due to his actions. She thought of the pain in serving meals to a man that killed your child…
But still- she wanted to believe something wasn’t right about the whole thing. He wouldn’t do that… she’d seen his soul.
She smiled and stepped past her, entering the elevator. as the woman’s footsteps quickly and quietly tapped down the echoic hall, Alexa jumped out and hopped into the stairwell. As quietly as she could, Alexa turned and peeked around the corner. The woman punched in the code 5-6-5-4. Yes! She’d seen it. Perfect. Then she quickly jumped back into the stairwell and waited until she heard the elevator doors close behind the woman.
But now what? How would she explain why she stole a code just to open his door? She didn’t know the answer, but she knew she wanted to see him. He was leaning against a wall of his cell, legs outstretched on the cold floor. There was a button to speak to him. Shaking, she pushed it in with her finger and held it there.
“Hi Loki”
He looked surprised, looking to the wall she knew he could not see through. After his surprise seemed to fade, he responded.
“What in Valhalla do you want?”
He was cold. Calloused. Stubborn. It had taken all of her bravery even to try to speak to him, let alone to explain herself.
“I just, um”
He raised his eyebrows towards the wall in irritation.
“Is your, um…food hot?” She stuttered.
“No, it’s never bloody hot all they give me is leftovers no one else wants days after it was cooked.”
She looked through the forcefield, wondering if her powers would work through it. She knew they worked through glass…
After a moment, Loki heard, “how about now?”
“Oh what do you even…” he had started to yell but stopped when he saw his plate steaming. He held his hand over it just to be sure. It was hot, at least his pancake was. Then he looked back at the wall. He knew he should say thank you, but refused to. He was a god. He shouldn’t have to thank anyone for his food to be hot in the first place. He turned from the wall and ate.
Alexa watched him and once she was sure it had worked, she left.

Chapter Summary: Alexa reveals her backstory to the mysterious man she just met...
Contains: recalling of trauma, imprisonment, backstory development

~~Beginning of Story~~
—————————————————
This man had the most beautifully broken soul that Alexa had ever seen. Since he walked in she could feel it. He was clever. The most clever she had ever seen. He had problems with his family, she could see that too, but not place exactly what they were. He was calloused. The walls he built to protect himself were weaved of sarcasm and hatred and greed. But she also saw the good in him. How much he loved to have fun. How he craved it when stuck with those who didn’t understand him. And most importantly, she saw he was lonely… he saw himself as a monster.
Just like me. She thought.
“So what happened?” He asked in a tone that was tired of waiting. Then his tone changed to irritation. “and how could you tell it was an illusion? With captain justice eagle?”
She smiled at his comment, admiring his outer beauty as well as his humor. His jet black hair and striking green eyes, and how his green, black, and gold clothing fit him so well. Her smile faded when she processed his question. “It’s a long story.”
As she was about to begin revealing her life’s secret to this demigod, the door screeched open, drawing both of their eyes to it. A tray of food slid in on the floor. Then it shut.
“I do suppose you are hungry?” Loki said, pulling his eyes back to her. He’d spoken in an irritated tone, thinking that food would only make this take longer. Alexa nodded. With a flick of his wrist, the tray slid across the floor to her. She grinned and immediately began indulging herself in the bread and cheese on the tray.
So she told him. She explained the incident in the woods when she was 6 in all the detail she could, and told him of her powers.
“For whatever reason, they correspond with the moon phases. That’s how I know what one I’m expecting next.” She explained. Then hesitantly continued. “ but when there’s a full moon, I know it sounds stupid like I’m a werewolf or something, but it’s true. I lose control of them. Not in my mind, but physically.” She explained. “Like I’ll sneeze and the power could go out. Or a paper in front of me could light on fire. And on the full moon, it seems that I have all of them. Every other moon phase there’s just one, but on the full moon it’s all of them and I can’t control them all at once…” She became somber and looked down. “that’s what happened. I was trying to control it but the older I get it seems more difficult. Like they get more and more powerful” she said. “My family…”
She was starting to cry. “My foster family took me in years ago. They had been so kind and loving. The system is shit, but this family was good- for the most part. I was a lucky one. They were the only family I ever really had because my birth mother died when I was born and my father hated me for it, so he became abusive and drank too much. Someone heard me yelling so I was taken away from him and given to my foster family. I loved it there, there were other kids to play with and I could play outside, and they made me feel so loved. But…” Alexa took a deep breath. “once I started having these powers as a child, the parents were disappointed in me. They always hated the Avengers, believing that God or Jesus are the only ones who should have power, and any other presentation of inhuman power comes from Satan.” She explained delicately. “They told me I was unlovable if I stayed this way. That they used to love me but look what I’d become. They told me I was garbage, that I was weak for succumbing to temptation. And I believed every word. My powers only kept getting stronger so they kept becoming more and more disgusted with me.” She was quiet for a moment, trying to compose herself. “That night was a full moon and they had hired someone to… fix me...” she kept avoiding Loki’s gaze, knowing it would make her tears spill over to see someone who might actually care. “Like an exorcist or something. That’s why I hadn't eaten for three days, they wanted me weak. They kept trying to grab me. My family and the man they hired. I kept burning their hands as they touched me, and that only fueled their Satanic theory. I wasn’t trying to. I was just not in control…” she stumbled on her words. “then the man pulled out chains. They tried to shackle me and they were yelling and I was screaming for them to stop. They wouldn’t listen, and… then I… I just…”
She made an exploding gesture with her hands. “Everything was destroyed when I opened my eyes and then I passed out”
Loki was looking at her tenderly, with more surprise than pity. He remained quiet for a moment, then spoke. “So your powers correspond with the Midguardian moon?”
She was grateful that he didn’t press more on the story from that night. “Midguardian?” She looked at him confused. Loki rolled his eyes “Earthen. Whatever you want to call it”
Alexa nodded. “Yes, from what I can tell. Each phase, waning, and waxing, is a different power. And they fade from one to another. The only different ones are when there’s a full moon I have all of them at once, and when there’s a new moon I have none.” She stated. “Oh, and one other thing. When I’m in the moonlight it appears as if I am, like, charging. When I go out in the night for a while my veins get sort of glowy and I will not need to sleep for 3 days afterward. I can just stay awake with no issue.” She said. “I can sleep if I want, but I only need to if I can’t get to moonlight.”
Loki raised his eyebrows in interest. “Alright,” he said, trying to think of the next question to ask. “What are each of your powers?”
“Well, this is the first one after the full moon, I call it soul sight” she explained. “That’s the one I have now, the one that made me know your “captain justice shield” wasn’t real. I can sense all of the souls around me and see into them. All the fears, feelings, and dreams and pain, everything.” She explained. When he came in, I felt nothing.”
Realizing that his feeling of vulnerability when she looked at him wasn’t just paranoia made Loki more nervous. She could see him for what he was. He stirred uncomfortably.
Alexa noticed. “Don’t worry. I can’t see details, just general feelings or energies and I never share anything that I see with anyone else. In fact when I’m like this most of the time I lock myself away so that I don’t invade anyone’s privacy.” She said quietly.
There was a pause before she continued. “So that’s the phase called waning gibbous. The one after it is called last quarter. Also called a half-moon. During that I have powers related to heat or fire” She explained. “I can make fire with the snap of my fingers, or lightning even, or make my skin too hot to touch…” she looked down remembering that night, but quickly regained focus.
“Then there’s the waning crescent. During that, I can transform into other things. Anything I want”
Loki for a moment felt irritated that someone other than him had the ability to shapeshift as if someone had stepped into his territory.
He kept listening skeptically.
“Then there’s the new moon when I have nothing. After that, it’s the waxing crescent. During that, I can move things with my mind, like you did with the tray.”
Another of his abilities in this girl. He didn’t like it. Not at all.
She could sense his feeling of jealousy, but she decided to act like she didn’t. If he knew she could tell it would likely only anger him more.
She continued delicately. “After that, it’s the first quarter, as the other half moon. During that, I have powers of water and coldness. The last one is waxing gibbous. That one allows me to fly.”
He looked at her quizzically.
“Not like Stark does, not as controlled. It’s like I lose all personal gravity. Like I swim through the air and I can go through walls.” She explained with a grin. “That one is really quite fun.” She wasn’t used to being able to openly speak of her powers… much less used to having someone accept what she said and not look at her like she belonged in a mental hospital. She then felt overwhelmed with guilt, knowing how her now-deceased family would have disowned her for talking of her powers with any tinge of excitement.
There was a pause as his green eyes looked into her blues, waiting for more. “And that’s it,” she shrugged. “After that, it’s a full moon and I’ve already told you about that. And then the cycle repeats itself”
He paused and then looked up at the camera. She looked at him and glanced at the camera as well. The door opened, turning both of their heads to it.
Tony walked in, wearing normal clothes instead of his suit. “Wanna stay in here or come out and meet the rest?” He said looking at her. Loki realized he should get up and walk for the door. He did, but something in him made him hesitate at the exit. Whatever it was, he shoved it down and walked out the door.
Alexa watched him as he left and then directed her attention to Tony.
“Are you going to experiment on me?” She asked with a tinge of fear in her voice.
“Not without your consent”
She paused and looked at him. He was telling the truth. Soul sight gave her that ability as well.
“Okay.” she stood up and walked out of the open door Mr. Stark held for her.

~Beginning of Story~
—————————————————
The entire team sat at their long table in the Avengers tower. “Ok so the main point of dragging your asses up here this morning-” Tony said as he pressed a small remote. “Alexa Coston. According to witnesses that survived, the 20-year-old girl decided to explode. This obliterated her home and the other few within a couple miles. There was no evidence of a bomb and at the center of it, we found her passed out on the ground. If that wasn't already weird enough for you she was literally glowing silver along her arms. We drugged her to keep her asleep and brought her here to one of the max holding cells.”
Everyone looked at the pictures in the projection. Some with curiosity, and some with utter confusion. It showed a circumference of complete destruction of several miles of farmland  around the epicenter.
“How??” Thor bellowed. Loki rolled his eyes at his brother's dense question from across the table. His hands were still always cuffed behind his back, and Tony wasn’t sure if it would pay off to even have him there. But, he never knew when the bastard could be the key to solving strange problems like these.
“If we knew that we wouldn’t be here,” Tony replied after a pause of irritation.
“There was no bomb?” Bruce pushed. “How is she alive?”
“Not only is she alive but she doesn’t have a single scratch on her” Tony replied.
The room was quiet for a few seconds.
“Come on” Steve spoke up for the first time in the meeting. “You all are familiar with all this science and magic... stuff,” he stumbled on his words. “What is this? Is there anything even related to it? Anything similar to what anyone has experienced or seen?”
Nothing. Then Peter got brave and spoke up, excited to take part in the meeting. “Why don’t we just ask her?”
“It appears she is either mute,” Tony paused, and you could hear the aggravation in his voice. “Or she is the most stubborn little shit I’ve ever had the pleasure of dealing with.” Tony then spat out, “except that one.” Pointing at Loki, who proceeded to do a little bow with his head as if he were proud of his performance.
There was a pause.
“Have you gone in there to talk to her?” Asked Natasha.
“No. She’s too dangerous, that could be what she’s waiting for. We don’t know her intentions.” Tony replied.
“Why is this even an issue?” Loki said, seeming uninterested and unimpressed with this specimen. “Why not wait her out? She’ll talk or die or go insane in there alone after a while. If she talks or not your threat is eliminated.”
“Because...” Tony seemed to be almost hissing in irritation. “The general public, as well as the Feds, are breathing down my neck for an answer for why there is a perfectly circular disaster zone in the middle of the god damn Oregon countryside. It was a miracle that we even have her at this point instead of them, we just happened to get there first.” That shut Loki up, though he still seemed bored by the meeting.
“Well we are not making any progress right now, just send someone in.” “No he’s right, it’s too dangerous.” “Well if she’s that powerful she could have escaped by now anyway!” The arguing ensued. Finally, they ended with the decision that someone would need to talk to her in the cell.  Nothing else was making progress.
Then the arguing only continued with deciding who. They were all pushing to volunteer themselves, as heroes do. Arguing over how expendable each of them was. They had been going for a couple minutes when Loki finally shouted.
“ENOUGH.” Loki stood and kicked the leg of the table, causing the entire group to go into attack positions facing him. He rolled his eyes at their reaction. “You are all so primitive and self-sacrificing you’ve forgotten I can send one of you without sending one of you. You mewling quims.” The group was still tense until Loki slowly returned to his chair. He was right though. He could send an illusion to speak to the girl and that way, no one would be in harm's way.
“If we send an illusion we can’t leave it under HIS control.” spat Clint.
“Fine. I’ll project one of you. You can do whatever you wish that way. can we cease the pointless arguing now then so I can go back to my solitude away from this madness before the next week?” Loki said, looking to Tony.
He nodded, “The projection is a good idea. Who should we send?”
And of course, they again argued over who would be most likely to coax the girl to speak. They argued endlessly at times it seemed. In the end, they went with Steve upon realizing they could try others if he was unsuccessful. So Loki created the illusion- projecting Steve into the room from outside of it, displaying his every word and movement. The group watched the cell camera feed intently. Loki projected the Steve into the room as Peter opened and quickly shut the door behind it.
As “Steve” entered the room, Alexa didn’t look up. The girl was curled up on her mattress, facing the wall, unmoving and uninterested. Steve started. “Hey”
Nothing.
“I’m Steve. How are you doing?”
She could have been a corpse if it weren’t the slight movements of her breathing, raising and lowering her rib cage under her loose cotton t-shirt.
Steve looked to the others, looking for guidance. Natasha motioned for him to keep talking.
“Do you want to talk about it?”
“Maybe if you were real”
The girl's melodic voice took them all by surprise with its presence. At least she’d spoken, but how did she know?
“If I was real?” Steve asked uncomfortably.
“Yes. If you weren’t a projection or hologram or whatever the fuck you are...” she raised her hand up above her head where they could see it so she could make air quotes, “Steve”
A long pause ensued with Steve looking to the others a bit panicked. Loki stopped the illusion.
“She never even looked at it. How did she know?” Bruce commented
“Even if she looked at it,” Loki spat, “she couldn’t have been able to tell by sight. My illusions have no flaws.” Loki was suddenly much more interested in this supposedly mortal girl who could see through his trickery.
Tony was quiet. “Someone needs to go in. She said she’d talk if he was real”
“She said “maybe” and it was sarcastic.” Loki spat. The room was quiet. Before anyone could volunteer themselves, Tony’s suit had surrounded his body and he entered the elevator.
“Watch and learn kids,” he said as the doors shut. Steve and Thor appeared as if they’d almost tried to stop him, but knew it was useless to try.
Tony slowly stepped into the room. His metallic suit made his footsteps loud, almost uncomfortably loud with how quiet and echoing the cell was. He let out a sigh.
“You must be Stark.”
“Yep, I’m real and I’m in here, in the flesh and metal. Now can you please tell us what happened?? Preferably now?”
Alexa was still in the same position.
“Please turn around” Tony pushed. “We need to figure this out. Was it an accident? Did someone hurt you?”
The girl was quiet. “You could never possibly understand”
She was talking. Yes. Finally.
“Of course not. You're a teenager, no one can understand you. That’s what you all think at this age but the reality is, we’ve all been there, and most of us get it kid. Try me.” Tony replied hopefully.
“No, you couldn’t. You are the most widely loved person in the entirety of New York,” she said. “I can feel you would never understand what it’s like to be an unlovable, mutated monster.” She was almost whispering, and Tony realized she might be holding back tears.
He also noticed her skin. She was pale and shaky, likely from starving herself for the last two days. “Why are you that frail-looking? I mean I guess you’re small but two days shouldn’t do this much damage. You’ll think clearer on a full stomach.” He slid a tray of food towards her. “Eat something.”
“I haven't eaten in 5 days, not 2.”
“What- why?”
She didn’t respond to him. Tony pressed. He tried to convince her to tell him more, but she was silent and unmoving once more. He left the cell.
At least that gave them something. She appeared to be slightly breaking from the solitude and self-imposed starvation. She also seemed to be remorseful- it was an accident. Or at least she regretted it if it wasn’t.
They tried Thor. She once again knew who had entered without looking at them. “Oh wow, a king from another land.” She said with sarcasm in her voice. “My liege” and she gestures dramatically with her hand in the air above her still, unmoving body.
“How did you know that?” Thor asked.
“Why do you care?” She responded thickly.
Thor paused. “I’m not all perfect like Tony...” he said with the tone of a boy trying to convince his mother he deserved an extra cookie, only deep and bellowing. “I disobeyed my father and didn’t become king.”
She was quiet.
“And you’re loved,” she said.
Thor stopped trying to convince.
“Why are you doing this.” He asked, losing the pleading tone of voice.
“I want to die” she responded as if she had just said she had a cold. “I will starve eventually and die. That would be better anyway, then no one will ever have the power of this curse again.” She was stoic, and still unmoving.
“You are worried you’ll be tested, becoming a weapon of some sort?” Thor asked hesitantly.
Abruptly, the door opened to have Tony join them, his sarcastic tone included. “Hey, kid have you heard of the Avengers?” he made his tone cheery as a salesman would, only dripping with sarcasm. “It’s this ragtag group of misfits that saved you from being eventually eaten by aliens a couple months back. And well, guess what. We didn’t experiment on them. They’re almost all freaks, and they are here. Alive, with families even. Happy.”
Alexa listened quietly, and it was then that Thor left and let Tony take over.
He continued, changing his tone to more serious. “We have no intention of hurting you. We just want to help figure out how this happened, and help it not happen again. You’ll heal. You’ll have a life. You don’t need to be afraid like this.”
Alexa stopped, thinking for a moment. Tony held his tongue for about ten seconds, and just before he was about to break the silence, she spoke. “I’m sorry. But that does not change the fact that I want to die. Experiments or not, I am a monster. An unlovable, disgusting mutant who killed my family and my home.” It was clear she was crying now. “Nothing fucking helps. They were right about me. I’m a monster and a danger to others. I’m a freak. I can see right through you and all your fucking intentions, all your fears, everything. There is no other one like me. I’m completely alone. And if I can’t talk to someone who might even have a vague capacity for understanding what I’ve been through, I don’t want to live anymore.”
There was a long pause. Tony heard the girls quiet sobs.
“Tony, you have billions of dollars and every resource at your disposal. If you can’t find one person like me that can help me and actually understand what I’m going through instead of pretending they do” she was loudly sobbing now.“Then I’d rather be dead than continue alone”
The group was quiet as they listened to her. Tony was quiet for a moment, then left.
As he re-entered the meeting room, Loki ended the silence.“Well, she broke!” His voice was cheery and clashed with the somber energy of the room, earning confused glares from the team. “She’s clearly made up her mind.” He clapped his hands together as if they’d accomplished something. “May I return to my quarters now?”

~~Beginning of Story~~
—————————————————
Loki first unbandaged his hand, revealing the multiple rows of stitches along the edge of the bracelet. The look of his harm appeared so painful, Alexa had to hold back her tears.
Alexa ran her fingers over the bracelet, but before she did anything else, Loki took her head in his hands and kissed her. Now she couldn't hold back her tears. Everything he had said, all the cruel words, were fake. She could feel that tug in her chest as they kissed and kissed. She never wanted it to end. She had missed him too much.
But it did end, and Loki brushed his thumb over one of her tears. She looked back at the bracelet, then at him.
He nodded to her, closed his eyes, and turned his head away.
It was a complicated command, and she didn’t want to hurt Loki. With all her focus, she aimed her eyes at the bracelet.
She took a deep breath. She knew what she needed to tell the thing gripping into Loki’s skin. Release, but don’t disconnect. She wanted to open it enough to let go, but not enough to shut the thing down. And she had to do it slowly, for fear of it ripping Loki’s flesh more if it went too fast.
She looked at Loki, who was bracing for pain, and she gave the command, guiding it with her hand movement. After a moment of tense silence, Loki threw his other hand over his mouth and screwed his eyes shut. She saw the movement of the bracelet, and a trickle of blood trailed down his arm and began dripping onto her thigh. He curled his whole body. The amount of pain he appeared to be in caused her to start to panic. He began to shake violently and he looked as if he’d lose control and let out a scream at any moment, or she might herself just watching him.
But before he did, It came out. Its prongs had pulled in and it widened just enough to get it over his hand, but not enough to turn the thing off.
As it fell from his wrist into Alexa’s palm, Loki’s body relaxed. He collapsed forward, and she caught him and gently set his head on her lap, guiding his head to avoid the part of her pants that were now stained with his blood. He let out heavy breaths and she wiped sweat from his forehead. Seeing him in that much pain was almost unbearable, and she choked back more tears.
But they had done it. Alexa looked down at him, brushing the hair out of his face, and smiled. Though weary, he returned the expression. The attempts of others to keep them apart had died at the blade of their sword.
As Loki recovered on her lap, Alexa assessed the damage on his wrist. They would need more bandage. There were perfectly circular holes all around his wrist, about the size of pencil erasers, that were now oozing blood. She quickly wrapped part of her oversized t-shirt around his wrist and held her hand there. They couldn’t have blood left in the cell, and luckily it had all seeped into the denim of her jeans. Gently, when he was ready, she pulled him to his feet. Before they left, Loki placed the bracelet under the blanket of his bed and created an illusion of him lying there asleep.
They hurried up the elevator and into her room, closing the door behind her. It was then that they felt comfortable enough to speak. Everything they’d written spilled from their lips, more questions were answered, every second lead to further understanding of the last several days. Alexa quickly brought bandage from the first aid kit in the bathroom, and let Loki wrap his wrist. She wished she could do it, but her arm in a sling hindered her.
They couldn’t stop talking. “So what exactly happened to you? How were you hurt?” His accent was thick at the moment, and Alexa loved it. She explained her side of the story from that day, and how she also had a concussion.
He sighed. It appeared that guilt washed over him, but he didn’t say anything. They had no more words at the moment. That was everything. Loki ran his hand over her hair, stopping at the back of her head. His eyes were locked on hers. She looked up at him and knew exactly what he was about to do. Before he could pull her head to his, she grabbed the collar of his suit with her good arm and instantly pulled him in.
They kissed. It felt as amazing if not better than the first and second combined, this time being grateful they even had this opportunity again. It was as if they were each other’s oxygen. If their first kiss was gentle ocean waves on sand, this was a tsunami.
Every time she pulled back, Loki pulled her back in. He wouldn’t stop, and slowly she realized her back was being pressed against a wall. He was taking her breath away, how desperate he felt to kiss her and never stop. She felt his good hand grab hers and push it against the wall as well, the cold surface against her bare skin giving her chills. “I’ve been waiting to do this for so long, Petal.”
She was melted by his words. He truly did have a silver tongue. As he began to whisper in her ear again, she mustered up all her will to pause him.
“Loki…”
Loki looked suddenly very concerned, worried he’d crossed a line in his moment of passion.
She could sense his concern. “I want to. I do. But…”
“What is it darling?”
Darling. How did his names for her always make such an impact on her mind?
Alexa sighed, still catching her breath. “We’re both injured. And I have a concussion. Everything is so… foggy. We’re exhausted. I don’t want my first time to be like that.”
Loki looked at her, suddenly surprised. “You’re first time?”
Oh god… was that not what he was going for? Or is he just surprised I’m a virgin… Alexa’s mind raced. “I’ve never…done anything before. I’ve never had a boyfriend or anything. So anything and everything I do with you is a first.” She felt like it was a good recovery.
Loki didn’t hide his surprise. “No mortal man…” he paused to run a finger down the side of her face and end it at her chin, tilting her head up. “has ever had the courage to peruse you?” He asked in his sultry tone. “I think that gives me another good reason to determine that mortals are fools.” He whispered the words so close to her mouth it was as if she could taste his words. She looked at his deep green eyes. The tension was so thick, you could have cut it with a blade.
“Well, time for bed then,” Loki said, immediately killing the mood and spinning his back to her.
Ugh. Why did he do that, he could have kept it a little bit, not just killed the whole thing. She instantly craved his lips, and his words and…
He’s playing me. She realized it the moment she saw him looking back at her. His face was smug and calculating, watching her disappointed reaction. And he loved it. He loved having the power and didn’t like showing weakness. She knew that by now. Every tender moment she received from him was a rare treasure.
That first night and the number of times he had shed tears since the two had met were not his normal. She remembered from seeing his soul, how little he showed vulnerability, and this past week was definitely an anomaly. It was reasonable though. It had been an extremely taxing week, and previous to it he’d been locked in a cell with no one and nothing, for 4 months.
But now she saw a healthier Loki, who was getting back on his high horse of over-confidence. And she loved it.
“Will you be joining me in bed or watching me for another minute?”
Fuck. He was shirtless again and she’d been blankly staring at him while lost in thought. “Um…” Alexa couldn’t think. Loki raised his eyebrows at her, with a sly grin. “I’ll be there in a minute. I want to charge again. It makes all this feel better.” She said, gesturing to her head and shoulder.
“Alright Petal. You know I’ll be here, waiting for you...” The way he spoke was so very him. He was relishing in his freedom of speech. Tony would have been able to hear anything and everything he said, and with his prized silver tongue, it had felt debilitating. Now he was free. And there was no way he wasn’t going to milk that freedom for all it was worth.

~~Beginning of Story~~
—————————————————
She began to shake. She pressed the button to speak to him. Maybe it’s an illusion… she thought.
“Loki?” She spoke quietly at first, not wanting anyone to hear her. When there was no response, she became louder. “Loki?!”
Nothing. She ran out of the room, looking everywhere. She was frantic, but couldn’t show it. She didn’t know what to think. He obviously escaped without telling her for a reason. She couldn’t tell anyone, though she knew she had to find him and had no idea where to start.
As she desperately looked down every hall, she accidentally ran right into Tony, causing him to trip. “Woah kid slow down…” Tony said, and then he got a look at her face. She wasn’t an actress, and she couldn’t fully hide her panic. “You alright Alexa?” He asked, suddenly reading into her every movement.
“Yeah, I’m just…heading out for a bit” Alexa knew her lie was shitty. Stark watched her as she hurried off.
She took the elevator to the bottom floor and frantically scanned the lobby. Nothing. She ran outside. It was around sunset, and the streets of New York were bustling with people. Even if Loki was out here, there was no way she’d see him.
Suddenly, alarms went off all over the tower. They’d realized his escape, no doubt due to Tony seeing straight through her. In moments, she saw Stark in his suit, flying out of the tower and soaring over New York’s busy streets. She remembered Stark was tracking him.
I have to follow him... She knew he would track Loki. There was no way she’d keep up with him on foot, but she did have an idea. “Playing witch” as a child was one of her favorite secret games, she could control something with her telekinesis and ride it like a witch rides its broom.
Looking around frantically and knowing Stark was leaving her view, she saw a skateboarding boy. “Hey!” She yelled. “ I really need to use this I’m sorry I’ll bring it right back!”
Before the boy could protest she had stolen it from under his feet and sat on it as if she were riding a horse as it hovered in front of her. She gripped it tightly and held on as best as she could. It had been a long while since she tried this. But she focused and gave the skateboard her command. “Follow him,” she thought.
She instantly shot forwards at an uncomfortable and seemingly impossible speed. She lowered her head to the board and gripped it as tightly as she could with her hands and legs. She was going so fast everything around her was a blur. The wind was whipping through her hair so hard it felt as though it would take some out. It was so fast, she had no idea where she was until suddenly, the skateboard instantly halted. It sent her launching forward and she tumbled down into grass, rolling from the momentum until she was stopped by the side of her head slamming against a tree trunk.
…Ow. She weakly tried to lift herself from the grass. Her vision was blurry, and she struggled for a moment to process her surroundings. Upon moving, she determined her arms and legs weren’t broken, but one shoulder was severely bruised and hurt like hell. She was dizzy and nauseous, but she realized she could hear something. Was it screaming? It wasn’t her…
Loki. That’s why she was here. Loki. She could hear him screaming in pain. He sounded terrorized. That made her come to, but she was still very disoriented. She realized the skateboard must have stopped about 20 feet from where Stark was, as she didn’t see him from where she landed. She desperately pulled herself to her feet and clumsily stumbled towards the sound, only for it to be gone by the time she arrived at its source.
Oh god.
Stark was holding Loki, who was limp in his arms. Loki’s arm and hand were hanging limp below the rest of him, dripping in blood.
“Loki!” She heard herself scream and felt herself run at Tony, using her powers to force his arms to drop the body of her god, who she made float smoothly to the ground. She screamed at Tony, but what came out of her weren’t words. Then, she did something she’d never done before.
She threw him. Mustering all her power, she focused her power on Stark’s metal body and launched him into oblivion. She knew he’d be ok, he was in his suit after all.
But what had he done? She looked down at Loki and let herself fall onto the grass beside him. His arm had deep, claw-like gashes in it, all surrounding the bracelet on his wrist. She felt his pulse. He was alive, his heart was racing unnaturally fast but was slowing over time. She realized she was crying as she brushed his hair from his face. Tony landed behind her, and she turned her head enough to for him to hear her but not enough to be looking at him. “What did you do?” She asked through gritted teeth.
“Alexa…” he said softly. “He was trying to rip out his tracker. It caused him immense pain and he wouldn’t stop, so I knocked him out. He was trying to escape.”
“Escape what?” She whispered through her tears, looking back at Loki’s still body. The question wasn’t for Tony, it was for the man on the ground in front of her. Why would he try to escape now? What was he running from? She would still have been able to come to speak to him at night, now he just had a tracking device. Why did this make things so different?
Tony reached down and put his hand on Alexa’s shoulder. She immediately smacked it off. “He needs a doctor. Is there one in the tower?”
“Not yet but he’s on his way,” Tony replied. “I need to take him back.”
“You will not touch him” Alexa practically snarled at him.
“Oh ok, what’s your plan then werewolf? Drag him back? On a skateboard?”
Alexa didn’t want to admit he was right. She could try to use her power to carry him, but with how dizzy she felt she was worried she would pass out and drop him. Loki was bleeding a lot, and this needed to happen now. “Fine” she whispered and stood up, turning away so she wouldn’t have to see Tony pick him up and soar out of her view.
It was only now that she realized she was in Central Park. She had never been before, and there were few people around where they had landed, watching the scene unfold. She ignored them, and instead looked at the trees and grass, it was all so peaceful in comparison to the horrific adrenaline-filled event she’d just dealt with. Then she saw the grass coated in blood. Loki’s blood.
Why did he do it? What on Earth could have driven him to try to run, and why did he come to the park of all places… what was he even trying to accomplish? This wasn’t like him. He was calculating and cunning. This was a move of desperation.
Alexa wanted to get back to him. He was hurt. Regardless of what an ass he’d been, he was hurt and right now that was all that mattered.
She looked back to the skateboard. The thought of riding it again made her more nauseous, but she knew she had to. She straddled it once more and tried to give the command, but added “slowly” to it.
Much better. It smoothly made its way over the streets of New York, and Alexa held tightly to the board, worried she would fall with how off-balance she felt. She directed it to the helicopter pad. Once she stepped off, she commanded the thing to return to its owner, and off it flew.
