Huntikmas Day 5- what blankets I would give to the team
Dante:
Starting off strong, the vibe for Dante's is weighted blankets. His coat has a lot of practical uses like storage but with how heavy it must be I suspect there is an element of comfort that comes from wearing it which is why I'm giving Dante a weighted blanket. The same pressure therapy but with a bit more comfort. Obviously it would have to be yellow because it's representing his coat.
Zhalia:
For years now I have been obsessed with the idea of Zhalia having a blanket with the lizard tessellations by Escher on. Obviously they reference Escher in the show and Zhalia doesn't really pay much attention that would suggest she's likes the style but I think from the geometry and lizard standpoint its something she could appreciate. I think for Zhalia having a homemade blanket would be very meaningful for her, she's probably not had anything like it so I like the quilted designs which have a unique artist's flare.
Sophie:
So I think Sophie's main use for a blanket would be when she's reading. Getting her a custom blanket with the books she's read on or her favourites would be pointless because she reads to much but I like the 'go away I'm reading' blankets because that's probably something she deals with a lot from Lok and Den. I've gone for something with a bit more of her sophisticated style, but I also like the idea of the pockets she can store her books in if she's moving location. I've never really gotten on with blankets with arm holes but if Sophie could find it comfortable I reckon it would be helpful when's she's reading a good book but cold.
Den:
I've tried to stay away from hoodie blankets etc and stick to traditional (ish) but I think having a hood would be a big selling point for Den, mainly because it's basically a cape. The sherpa lined ones might make it look a bit too whimsical for Den but then again very soft and fluffy.
Cherit:
Right so I was going to make a joke about getting a white fleece blanket and then losing Cherit but then I remembered what my parents used to send me to sleep overs with. I'm aware camping blankets are supposed to be warm but I cannot confirm that, but with the quantity of blanket and size of Cherit it would probably wrap him up ten times so he should be good. Obviously this is ideal because its lightweight and folds up really small which means Cherit can shift it on his own with ease.
Harrison:
Electric blanket. He looks like he struggles with blood circulation and the cold so an electric blanket to keep him warm. Not much more I can say about that.
Lok:
Okay so my original idea was a sudoko board with velcro numbers, but then I thought that might be too many loose pieces so instead we've gone for the chess board. This can have velcro pieces or regular pieces if its laid flat and it means that Lok can relax in comfort physically playing chess or he can play mind chess whilst using his imagination and using the blanket as a reference point.

Hi guys this is my first fic so please no hate 😭🙏just finished LOK and I’m in desperate times of more korra so without further ado: Hidden Away
The sun hung low over the icy expanse of the Southern Water Tribe as the children’s laughter echoed through the village. Hide and seek had become an afternoon tradition for Korra and her friends. She took it seriously—too seriously, some might say—and this time, she was determined to win.
As the seeker counted aloud, Korra darted away from the others, her small boots crunching in the snow. She needed the perfect hiding spot, somewhere no one would ever think to look. That’s when she spotted the little fishing boat moored at the edge of the village. Its wooden hull had a small storage compartment just big enough for her to squeeze into.
Grinning, Korra climbed aboard, pulled open the hatch, and nestled inside. The space was cramped and cold, but she didn’t care. This was the best hiding spot she’d ever found.
Hours passed.
The shouts of her friends faded, replaced by worried murmurs. One by one, the children returned to their parents, unable to find Korra. Panic began to spread as the sky turned a soft orange with the setting sun.
“She wouldn’t have gone far, right?” a villager asked Senna, who was already scanning the horizon, her face tight with worry.
“She knows better than to leave the village,” Senna said, but her voice wavered.
Tonraq, who had been returning from a patrol, quickly took charge. “I’ll find her,” he assured them, though his heart was pounding. Korra’s tendency to push boundaries was no secret, and the thought of her out in the icy wilderness made his stomach churn.
Armed with a lantern, he began scouring every corner of the village, calling her name.
“Korra! It’s time to come out! You’ve won the game!”
But there was no response.
The search stretched on, and the villagers joined in, checking every nook and cranny. Still, there was no sign of the little Avatar.
Finally, as night began to fall, Tonraq’s eyes landed on the fishing boat at the edge of the ice. His breath caught.
“Korra,” he muttered, climbing aboard. He inspected the deck, then noticed the small storage hatch. Something told him to look inside.
When he opened it, his heart both sank and soared.
There she was, curled up in the cramped space, fast asleep. Her face was smudged with dirt, her arms clutching her knees to her chest.
“Korra,” Tonraq whispered, reaching in to gently shake her awake.
Her eyelids fluttered open, and she blinked up at him, confused. “Daddy?”
He didn’t say a word. Instead, he scooped her up into his arms, holding her tightly against his chest. The relief hit him like a tidal wave, and he let out a shaky breath.
“Do you have any idea how worried we were?” he said, his voice trembling. “I thought—” He stopped himself, unable to finish the sentence.
Korra, still groggy, looked up at him with wide eyes. “I was hiding. Did I win?”
Tonraq let out a breathless laugh, tears stinging his eyes. “You scared us, Korra. You scared me.”
Her little face fell, and guilt crept into her expression. “I didn’t mean to. I just wanted to hide really good.”
“You did, sweetheart. You’re the best hider in the whole tribe,” he said softly, brushing a stray strand of hair from her face. “But next time, don’t hide so well, okay?”
She nodded solemnly, burying her face in his chest. “I’m sorry, Daddy.”
Tonraq pressed a kiss to the top of her head, his arms tightening around her. “Just promise me you’ll stay where we can find you. I don’t ever want to lose you, Korra.”
As he carried her back to the house, the villagers breathed a collective sigh of relief. Korra, now fully awake, clung to her father, the weight of his worry sinking in.
She hadn’t meant to cause trouble, but as she felt her father’s heartbeat against her ear, she realized how much she meant to him. And though the game had ended, her small heart ached knowing she’d scared the person who loved her most.
Tonraq carried Korra through the village, his heavy boots crunching in the snow as the chill of the night settled in. Korra remained quiet, her small hands clutching the fabric of his parka. The village lights twinkled faintly as they passed concerned neighbors who offered relieved smiles and pats on Tonraq’s shoulder.
Senna was waiting outside their home, her face pale with worry. The moment she saw them, her hands flew to her mouth.
“Korra!” she cried, rushing forward.
Tonraq knelt, gently lowering Korra into her mother’s arms. Senna held her close, pressing her lips to the top of Korra’s head. “Where were you? We were so worried about you!”
Korra buried her face in Senna’s neck. “I’m sorry, Mommy. I didn’t mean to make you scared.”
Senna pulled back slightly, cupping her daughter’s cheeks. Her fingers were trembling, but her voice was soft. “Sweetheart, you can’t hide like that. It’s dangerous. What if we couldn’t find you?”
Tears welled up in Korra’s eyes, her lower lip trembling. “I just wanted to win… I didn’t think anyone would get mad.”
Senna’s heart broke at her daughter’s small, guilt-ridden voice. She looked to Tonraq, whose expression was a mixture of frustration and exhaustion.
“She’s okay now,” Tonraq said quietly, resting a hand on Senna’s shoulder. “Let’s take her inside.”
Once inside their warm home, Senna wrapped Korra in a thick blanket and sat her down by the hearth. Korra sniffled quietly, watching the flames dance, her tiny body dwarfed by the oversized blanket.
Tonraq knelt in front of her, his large hands resting on his knees. “Korra, do you understand why we’re upset?”
She nodded hesitantly, her voice barely above a whisper. “Because I hid too good.”
Tonraq sighed, leaning closer. “Not just that. We’re upset because we love you, and when we couldn’t find you, we thought something bad might have happened to you.”
Senna sat beside her, brushing Korra’s hair away from her face. “You’re our little girl, Korra. If anything happened to you…” Her voice caught, and she quickly pulled Korra into her lap.Korra curled into her mother’s arms, tears silently streaming down her cheeks. “I didn’t mean to make you sad. I don’t want you to be sad because of me.”
Tonraq placed a gentle hand on Korra’s back. “It’s okay, little one. We’re just glad you’re safe now. But you have to promise us something, okay?”
Korra tilted her head up to look at him, her wide eyes shimmering with unshed tears. “What?”
“Promise us you’ll let us know where you are. No more hiding where we can’t find you,” Tonraq said, his voice firm but kind.
Korra nodded slowly. “I promise.”
Senna kissed her temple, rocking her gently. “That’s our girl.”
That night, as Korra lay in her small bed with the fire crackling softly in the hearth, she couldn’t shake the guilt gnawing at her chest. She hadn’t meant to scare anyone, but the way her parents had looked at her—so worried, so heartbroken—was something she never wanted to see again.
Tonraq sat by her bedside, his large hand gently stroking her hair. “Go to sleep, Korra. Tomorrow’s a new day.”
“Daddy?” she whispered.
“Yes, sweetheart?”
“You’re not mad at me, right?”
Tonraq’s heart clenched. He leaned down, kissing her forehead. “I could never be mad at you, Korra. I love you too much.”
Her small hand reached up to clutch his. “I love you too.”
As her eyelids grew heavy, Tonraq stayed by her side, watching over her until her breathing evened out and she drifted into a peaceful sleep. No matter how much trouble she caused, she was his little girl. And he would always find her, no matter what.
The next morning, the village was alive with the soft hum of daily life, but in the small home of the Water Tribe chief’s family, the air was still tender with the weight of the previous night.
Korra woke up slowly, her body still wrapped in the warmth of her blankets. The fire in the hearth had long since burned out, and the cold air nipped at her cheeks. She rubbed her eyes groggily, her small hands brushing against the faint tear tracks that had dried overnight.
Tonraq was already in the room, sitting in a chair nearby. He had stayed the whole night, his broad frame slouched slightly as he dozed off, one hand resting on the hilt of his sheathed sword. Even in sleep, he looked as though he was ready to protect her at a moment’s notice.
Korra’s small voice broke the silence. “Daddy?”
Tonraq stirred, his eyes fluttering open. For a moment, he seemed disoriented, but when his gaze landed on her, a soft smile tugged at his lips. “Morning, little one. How are you feeling?”
She sat up slowly, clutching the edges of her blanket. “I’m okay…”
He leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. “Did you sleep well?”
She nodded but hesitated, her fingers fidgeting with the fabric. “Are you still sad?”
Tonraq sighed, his expression softening. He reached out to ruffle her messy hair. “I’m not sad anymore. I was just scared last night, that’s all. You’re my little girl, Korra. It’s my job to keep you safe.”
Her eyes welled up again, but she quickly wiped them with her sleeve. “I didn’t mean to make you scared.”
“I know,” Tonraq said gently. “But you have to understand that when you’re hiding or out of sight, it’s hard for us to protect you. You’re strong, Korra, but you’re still a little girl. It’s okay to need us.”
Korra didn’t respond right away. She stared at her hands, her small brow furrowed in thought. “What if… what if I get too strong one day? What if I don’t need you anymore?”
Tonraq’s heart clenched at her words. He reached forward, pulling her into his lap. “Korra, you’ll always need people who care about you. Even the strongest warriors have someone they lean on. And no matter how strong you get, you’ll always have me and your mother. We’ll always be here for you.”
Korra nestled into his chest, her small arms wrapping around his waist. “Promise?”
“Promise,” he said, holding her close.
Senna entered the room moments later, carrying a tray of warm soup and bread. She paused, watching the tender scene between father and daughter. A soft smile graced her lips.
“You two look cozy,” she said, setting the tray down on Korra’s small table. “Come on, Korra. You need to eat something.”
Tonraq placed Korra back on the bed, and Senna helped her sit up as she placed the bowl of soup in her hands. Korra hesitated, staring at the steam rising from the bowl.
“I’m sorry, Mommy,” she said quietly, her voice trembling.
Senna knelt by her side, brushing Korra’s cheek with her thumb. “You don’t have to keep saying sorry, sweetheart. Just promise us you’ll be more careful, okay?”
Korra nodded, taking a small sip of the soup. As the warmth spread through her, she felt a little more secure, a little more loved.
That day, Tonraq and Senna made a point to keep Korra close, playing with her in the snow and reading her stories by the fire. They knew she was still processing what had happened, but they were determined to show her that she was never alone.
Korra may have caused trouble sometimes, but she was theirs. And no matter what, they would always find a way to bring her back home, safe and sound.

Fireless locomotive Hohenzollern 2216...the last of its type
2021 The old Zanders paper factory in Bergisch Gladbach is up for sale (auction) and the future of the small steam storage locomotive Hohenzollern 2216 is more than uncertain. I was already afraid that the good piece would end up on the scrap heap, I phoned around, asked what would become of it, but at that time nobody could tell me anything about it.
In the meantime, there are concrete plans for the area and the little locomotive has been restored and put in order as a monument. And this is how it looks now, almost 2 years later.

hongkong + macau trip
planned trip VS reality
💕 Day 1 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3/5
Always lost ❓ and lots of walking 🚶♀️so comfy shoes is a MUST
HK airport: I had no idea that they have trains 🚊 inside airport. We just followed the crowd 🤸♀️ to get our check in luggage 🧳 which is after Immigration. Wifi was easy to find. *klook 100 hkd 💸 - couldn’t find it so we just gave it up
Bus 🚃 : longer than I thought it would be but it was only 1 ride to our hotel with a bit of walking so it was ok. Uber 🚖 is just way too expensive 💰
GoTyme: Withdraw money + bus payment
Mini Causeway Bay 🏨 : smaller than I thought but it wasn't a bother since we don't plan to stay that much in the hotel.
Yat Lok 🍗 : not my kind of food, but it was good
Arte M 🌺🐯🐉🌊 : worth it, it was so nice. But 😣 the uber 🚕 went to K11 near TST, but it was a different one so we uber again to right one.
TST: we just hang around the area for avenue lights but there's none 😞 but it was a nice view 🌇 and we rest our feet 👣
Peak tram: wrong booking 😞
💕 Day 2 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5
Breakfast at Cafe De Coral 🍱 : foreigner friendly
Beyond my fucking expectation 💥
Just ride everything you can HAHA
Bring japanese insecticide for sand mites - anxiety bc of i was infected with it. damn it.
Check disneyland app for activities and shows
MOMENTOUS 🎆🏰🎇 IS THE FUCKING BEST.
💕 Day 3 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5
Booked a private tour with pinay friend. It was worth it bc we didn't have to worry where to go and we got to see lots of places for 1 day
HP 🪄 : so fun and so lots to do
Mongkok: wifi was lowbat and we were tired so cancelled it
Don Don Donki: lots of stuff to see and can also buy food
💕 Day 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3/5
Blue Bottle Coffee ☕️ : foreigner friendly
Luggage storage: need to be early bc it got full so fast
Cable car 🚡 : scary for me, but worth to try
NgongPin: we just ate and then went back to go to airport. Need to catch flight ✈️
I was shocked with the culture. They really don't talk in english so miscommunication can really happen. They are not that accommodating to foreigners so don't expect any help. It's easier to commute using MTR and Rome2Rio app. Google maps are always not good app for HK, but it's also helpful to check. Booking using klook can really help a lot. GoTyme is a must!
✨ If I were to change it ‼️
Day 1 HK airport (10am) → NgongPin (until 2-3pm) → Late check in to hotel (4pm) → ArteM (5pm) → Causeway bay: dinner and shopping → rest
Day 2 Disneyland - no changes
Day 3 Macau → Mongkok
Day 4 Early check out, but leave luggage for a bit in hotel → Blue Bottle Coffee (7 am) → Peak tram and Peak Tower (10am) → Hotel for luggage (3pm) → Airport by 4-5 pm, flight was 7pm

How Long Does a Milwaukee Leaf Blower Battery Last?
Introduction
Milwaukee leaf blowers are renowned for their efficiency and powerful performance. However, one critical aspect every user considers is the battery life. Understanding how long a Milwaukee leaf blower battery lasts and what factors influence its longevity can significantly impact your yard maintenance routine. This comprehensive guide will delve into the expected battery duration, elements affecting battery life, and tips for prolonging the battery’s lifespan.
Expected Battery Life
Milwaukee leaf blowers are powered by high-capacity lithium-ion batteries, which typically provide substantial runtime for most yard maintenance tasks. On average, a fully charged Milwaukee leaf blower battery can last between 20 to 60 minutes, depending on the model and the blower's power setting.
Factors Affecting Battery Life
Environmental Conditions
Temperature extremes can significantly impact battery performance. Operating the blower in very cold or hot conditions can shorten the battery life. Ideal operating temperatures range from 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F).
Usage Patterns
Frequent use at maximum power settings drains the battery faster compared to moderate or variable power settings. Continuous use without breaks also contributes to quicker battery depletion.
Battery Maintenance
Proper maintenance practices, such as regular charging and avoiding deep discharges, help extend battery life. It’s crucial to follow manufacturer guidelines for charging cycles and storage.
Milwaukee Leaf Blower Models
Different models of Milwaukee leaf blowers come with varying battery capacities and technologies. The M18 FUEL™ series, for instance, offers robust performance with longer battery life compared to other models. Here’s a comparison:
M18 FUEL™ Blower: Up to 45 minutes of runtime on a high-demand 9.0Ah battery.
M18 Compact Blower: Approximately 20 minutes on a 3.0Ah battery.
M18 FUEL™ QUIK-LOK™ Attachment System: Varies based on attachment, with an average of 30-60 minutes.
Battery Types and Specifications
Milwaukee uses advanced RedLithium™ battery technology, which provides better performance and longer life than traditional lithium-ion batteries. These batteries come in various capacities, from compact 1.5Ah packs to high-demand 12.0Ah versions.
Charging Time
Charging times for Milwaukee leaf blower batteries vary by capacity and charger type. A standard 3.0Ah battery typically charges in about 60 minutes, while larger 9.0Ah batteries can take up to 180 minutes. Rapid chargers are available that can significantly reduce these times.
Tips to Extend Battery Life
Regular Charging: Avoid letting the battery fully discharge. Charge it regularly to maintain optimal performance.
Cool Storage: Store batteries in a cool, dry place when not in use, ideally at temperatures between 10°C and 30°C (50°F and 86°F).
Avoid Overloading: Use the blower on appropriate power settings for the task at hand to prevent overloading the battery.
Seasonal Storage Tips
When storing the blower for the off-season, ensure the battery is charged to about 50% and stored in a cool, dry place. This prevents deep discharge and maintains battery health.
Battery Maintenance
Regular maintenance involves keeping battery contacts clean and inspecting the battery for any signs of damage. Following a proper charging routine also helps maintain battery health.
Impact of Accessories
Using different accessories like extended nozzles or vacuum kits can affect battery performance. Higher power demands from accessories can lead to faster battery depletion.
Warranty and Support
Milwaukee offers comprehensive warranties on their batteries, typically covering defects in materials and workmanship for up to three years. Customer support is readily available for any battery-related issues.
User Experiences
Users generally report satisfaction with the battery life of Milwaukee leaf blowers, especially praising the high-capacity batteries for their longevity and consistent performance even under demanding conditions.
Troubleshooting Battery Issues
Common battery issues include failure to charge, rapid discharge, and overheating. Solutions often involve checking the charger, ensuring proper contact, and allowing the battery to cool down before recharging.
Comparing Battery Brands
Milwaukee batteries are often compared to other top brands like DeWalt and Makita. Milwaukee’s RedLithium™ technology is frequently noted for its superior runtime and durability.
Environmental Impact
Milwaukee is committed to environmentally friendly practices, and their batteries are designed to be long-lasting, reducing the frequency of replacements and waste.
Professional vs. Consumer Use
Professional landscapers may require multiple batteries for extended use, while consumer use typically requires just one or two batteries for regular yard maintenance.
Battery Recycling
Proper disposal of old batteries is crucial. Milwaukee participates in battery recycling programs to ensure environmentally safe disposal of used batteries.
Future Trends
Future innovations may include even higher capacity batteries, faster charging technologies, and integration with smart devices for monitoring battery health.
Cost of Replacement Batteries
Replacement batteries for Milwaukee leaf blowers vary in price depending on the capacity. A standard 3.0Ah battery may cost around $100, while high-capacity 9.0Ah batteries can be priced over $200.

Huntikmas day 10- What Tupperware the team are using
Sophie:
Pink matching sets, and they have to be stackable. I think the key thing for Sophie here is the aesthetic, she doesn't want her leftovers and snacks looking cluttered. I think Leblanche does a very good job at keeping everything organised and stored neatly in the kitchen cupboards.
Dante:
Bamboo containers. I think at this point in Dante's life he's come to the conclusion that it's better to have heavier but more hardwearing utensils that are going to last him a long time (he doesn't know yet that decision changes every few years). The glass or hard plastic might be heavy but that's a price he's willing to pay to keep his kitchen organised.
Zhalia:
Bold of you to assume she and Dante aren't sharing Tupperware. Okay but in all seriousness I was torn with Zhalia because her kitchen looked really nice and I'd like to see some good kitchen storage solutions going alongside that... but then she blew it all up so I suppose that doesn't matter anymore. Since life, Tupperware, and flats are all so fleeting apparently, I reckon Zhalia just reuses takeaway containers she's got from elsewhere. They've all got more use to be had out of them and she hasn't got time to be worrying about a kitchen cupboard.
Cherit:
Finding miniature Tupperware isn't the problem, there's loads of keyring and dolls house accessories out there, the problem is finding some that can actually hold food. Cherit gets these little round tubs for his snacks at home, he's old enough and saved the world enough that the foundation should at least be paying him a snack budget or something that can be delivered to the house. Plus they're small enough for him to handle and stack nicely.
Lok:
Lok has this cupboard. It's a mismatch of containers and an amalgamation of Tupperware he's had since he was a small child and still works so its never been thrown away. Somehow the hoard keeps growing, the lids keep shrinking, the walls warping and some of them have that weird orange stain but no matter what, if you ask Lok for Tupperware he definitely has some.
Den:
"Life hack, you never lose track of the lids if you only have like five containers"- Den probably at some point. What he failed to consider is that you actually have to keep on top of the washing up for this approach, instead he often ends up cling filming his food and leftovers because he's got nothing left clean. Yes he's done the pasta in just clingfilm walk of shame before. Fortunately not much gets left uneaten for long around him and Lok.
Harrison:
When you are in a cult, you don't get snack breaks. Instead Harrison utilises space with his water to contain snacks for on the go and he's used to putting weird stuff in the compartments if he has too. He's also the only one out of Lok, Den and him with the self control not to eat all the snacks in one go and can make them last during his murder hikes.

Creator Waves - ATLA and LOK fandoms on AO3
Sometimes you look at a chart and it just makes sense, and for me it was this wonderful visualisation of the Sherlock fandom by @fffinnagain that came across my dash the other day. Full disclaimer - I didn’t even read their full post, but I think this is one way of looking at the data that speaks multitudes for itself.
Take a look here and tell me what you see!
I’ve divided the “waves” here into a few categories - “On Air”, when ATLA was airing for the first time, “Pre-LOK”, the time between ATLA and LOK, the “LOK era” which is self-explanatory, and then every year individually after that. A creator is assigned into a wave based on the date of their earliest fandom work (due to the way AO3 works, this isn’t always the date they published their first work, but rather the date this work was last updated).
Once the creators are assigned to their groups, the colors are used to track any additional works they produce in the fandom. Such works are counted up per month, which explains the small local variations in these waves. I’ve marked a few key dates on the graph as well - one or two of which might explain the 2020 boom ;)
The ATLA Renaisance of 2020 brought almost 10x the amount of new creators to the fandom as any other year! How many of these fanwork creators will be around in a couple years? Well, judging from previous waves, it does seem that contributions from creators who entered a fandom die off to a trickle come the next year. The bunch that entered during the LOK era seem to still be contributing consistently however, and there’s a definite resurgence of the OG fans coming back to the fandom, as you can see from the little blue-purple bump in the year 2020.
We’ll have to wait and see if the new fans are here to stay - but for now we can enjoy the wonderful content they produce!
Let’s take a look at the next-gen Avatar fandom, too. Overall there are far less works in the Legend of Korra tag, although its release on USA Netflix has given it a popularity boost as well - one that’s even bigger than the one it got from the landmark series finale.
I’m interested in eventually examining the crossover of creators between these two fandoms, to answer questions such as: how many creators participate in both fandoms, and of those, what’s the fandom of origin and the lag between the crossover?
Anyway, for now, tag urself I’m a 2019 ATLA baby, and I still can’t believe I’ve never written a stand-alone for LOK (side-eyes my fanfic drafts folder).
Want to zoom in yourself? I’m hosting the interactive charts here on GitHub Pages, but I’m pretty sure I’ll surpass the storage limits soon, so be sure to take a look before they get replaced by new ones!

Assistance - Chapter 2
Pairing: Din Djarin x F!Reader (No Y/N, reader is nicknamed)
Warnings: Swearing, violence, mentions of drinking
Rating: 15
Word Count: 3.4K
Summary: You and the Mandalorian gear up for your journey and Mando gets into a tangle with some guild members.
A/N: Told you the chapters would get longer! As always I’m open for feedback, enjoy :)
Masterlist!
You had stayed in the cantina a while longer, silently tinkering with the tech in your cuff, wiring in the tracking fob and transferring all the data across to your internal tracker. Technically speaking this was illegal within the guild, the storage of any information regarding quarry’s was strictly forbidden ever since the Dinatchi incident, but sweet maker did it make your life easier. It meant that instead of playing hot and cold across (and a couple of times beneath) the surface of a planet, you had a much easier map to follow.
The Mandalorian was still sat opposite you, he never spoke once, just stayed patiently still, almost brooding. You had glanced up from your work at him once or twice, gauging him was difficult as you couldn’t see his face, but his posture spoke loud and clear. Leant back, arm extended over the back of worn booth, the other resting (you assumed) on his thigh, taking up as much space as possible, his chest out, open, so strong and commanding.
And yet he was so closed off. That helmet, all shine and intimidation, shielding him from the world, cutting off senses and making him rely solely on instinct and tech. Definitely a Mandalorian through and through. Silence was good for you, and having a Mandalorian sat at the same table meant that staff and drunk, nosy patrons left you well alone, which allowed you to work fast and in peace.
With a flick of your wrist you closed the interface, finishing your task. Slinging your bag over your shoulder you shuffled out the booth. He mirrored your movement, following you in a way that was dauntingly in sync. “Before we set off I need to go back to my ship and get together supplies, we’re going to be travelling a long distance on foot so I suggest you do the same.”
“I’ll come with you,” He stated.
You blinked a couple of times. “Okay.” Showing a complete stranger, whose face you can’t even see, your very beloved ship would’ve normally been against every instinct you had, yet here you were. You turn your back to him and go to make your way out of the dingy building, you’d made exactly two steps when something grabs your arm. Your stance changes on instinct, feet in an L shape, knees braced, fists tensed at your sides, then you freeze. You turn your head to face the wastoid who was gripping your bicep. He was smiling at you, a disgusting grin that made your skin itch.
“Sweetheart you can’t leave with a frown like that, come sit with me and I’ll cheer you up,” his tone dripped with false charm. You flashed your fakest smile back at him.
“I’m in a committed relationship with my ride, now get your hand off me before I break it off,” You exhorted, loudly. You braced yourself ready for fists to fly, when his eyes flicked to the silent statue of armour behind you. The pressure on your arm disappeared as your assailant backed away slowly, mumbling apologies to the ground.
Relaxing your fighters stance you rolled your shoulders, adjusting your bag to sit comfortably again. The atmosphere in the cantina had become tense, you hadn’t realised how quiet it had become in the moment. With a final glance around and a nod to the unhelpful bar keep, you resumed your exit path, the Mandalorian following close behind you.
What happened in the cantina had made you prickle, it certainly wasn’t the man who had grabbed you to blame as you usually dealt with pricks like him all the time, and had been kicked out of plenty of cantinas for doing so. It was more to do with the fact tin can behind you had bailed you out without even needing to lift a finger, without saying anything at all, and you couldn’t understand it. He followed you without a word, quietly trusting your knowledge of the way as you led him through winding streets and dodgy back alleys towards where you had landed. You were constantly aware of his presence, always a couple of steps behind, completely soundless, cape sweeping behind him as he strode after you. Stars even his steps were quiet.
The dusty blue walls of Detsak’s outer city buildings boxed you in and when you gazed up you could just see the burning sun peeping over the apex of the surrounding roofs. One final sharp turn brings you to your destination, the rusted metal gates of the ship keep raised up in sharp points in front of you.
“Rathca! Ent vi lok sey vey” You yelled through the gates.
“You speak Datsey?” The Mandalorian asked suddenly.
“Very basic Datsey,” You responded “It was a long journey here, and it’s surprisingly easy because it’s got a lot of Huttese roots.” He just nodded at you, so you turned you attention back to the gates as a small droid rolled up to them. You produced the flat matte black disc out of your bag that had been given to you on arrival and presented to the droid. A small probe extended from its chest and poked into the hole at the centre of the disc. After some whirring the droid retracted the probe and turned to the lock on the gate, the red light flashed green and you pushed the gate open, stepping inside the compound.
You held the gate open for the Mandalorian, expecting him to sweep in after you. Instead he just stood for there for a moment, you raised your eyebrow at him in a silent question.
Another moment passed before he moved, “I don’t like droids,” he grumbled as he went past.
“It’s a good thing they’re not looking after your ship then,” you remarked, a teasing smile playing briefly across your lips. The gate swung shut as you released it, clanging behind you as you swiftly followed the droid.
The big intimidating Mandalorian didn’t like droids, why? You glanced behind you, eyes skimming over his form, searching for a change in body language. Given you were now surrounded by various droids doing different tasks you would have expected a change if he were afraid of them. But nothing did. So he if he wasn’t afraid of them, what was it?
You shook your head slightly and turned your focus back to following the droid through the compound. To say the place was a mess was to put it lightly, parts of ships were piled up in jagged metal peaks, chunks of hull leant against the walls and a rainbow of wires carved out the path you were walking along. Between the hills of metal various ships were parked, some being repaired by the droids while others just sat peacefully within the chaos. A few more steps and then you saw her, your gorgeous ship.
“Cey na vi depa mey,” (The ship is staying here) you told the droid. It beeped at you, its head jerked forward in a nod and then turned and rolled away. You turned your attentions back to your ship, typing a command into your cuff you watched as the underbelly panel disengaged and sank to the ground, a ramp extended out welcoming you home. You grinned and ran up it, heading straight up to the cockpit. The Mandalorian followed suit, and you closed the ramp up behind him. Settling into you pilots seat of the cockpit, you began manipulating the controls. “Yes honey I’m home,” You said gently to the control panel when it bleeped at you softly. You brought out a wire from the main interface and, after removing the armoured cuff from your left arm, plugged it into the port on the cuff.
“What are you doing?” The Mandalorian asked.
“I need an updated map of Detsak transferring to my internal tracker if we want to be successful in bringing this quarry back alive, there’s also some software I need to transfer as well that will be invaluable to us, especially on this planet,” You replied “you can thank me later.”
“Why.” He must be joking. You don’t come to a planet like this without knowing what’s on it first. You stood up and maneuvered around his frame. This cockpit had definitely not been made to fit two people comfortably. You dropped down the ladder into the hold of your ship and started putting together your supplies, food and drink first.
You placed 6 dehydrated food packs into your bag, along with water pouches and a couple of Gethan peaches, that should be enough to keep you and tin can alive for the mission, med packs were next. You only had two med packs left, you sighed as you packed them, surely he had some as well, he must have, because you knew one of you were going to hurt more than once here.
Finally your favourite part, weapons and trap tech. Walking to the armoured cupboard you pressed the open command and password into the keypad and stepped back as your glorious collection was revealed. “Nice stash.” His sudden presence made you jump, again, how the hell does he move so quietly?
“You really need to stop doing that,” you remarked “but thank you, I’ve put a lot of love into these.”
“You weren’t joking were you?”
“About what?” You queried.
“What you said back in the cantina. Being in a committed relationship with your ride.” The Madalorian stated.
“Is there a point to any other relationship? She has everything I need, she’s reliable and she’s gotten me out of trouble more times than any person,” You knelt down next to your bag and carried on packing quietly, aware of the fact he was wandering around the hold, taking in the various panels and items you have stored “I could have gotten out of that trouble myself Mandalorian.”
“I know.”
“Then why did you step in?”
“I didn’t, the guy must have thought I was your ride.”
“Why on earth would he think that.” you paused your packing, the two of you stared at each other for a few seconds before he spoke again. “I don’t know,” he answered, your gaze dropped from his helmet and back to your task, while his roamed the walls of your ship “what’s her name?”
“Astrid, her name’s Astrid. Otherwise named the greatest ship in the galaxy,” You told him, smile plastered on your face as you looked up as him.
“Nice name,” He took another lap around the hold before saying “I’m going to go get supplies from my ship, I realise I will need some.” You nodded, thank the stars he decided that, otherwise both of you didn’t stand much of a chance of getting out of this.
“Give me 5 minutes and I’ll come with you-“
“No.”
“I’m sorry?” you snapped
“I don’t want you coming with me. We’ll rendezvous in half an hour at the outer city gates,” he answered steadily. He’s a Mandalorian, they’re the most closed off people in the galaxy, of course he doesn’t want you to see his ship. You nod understandably and stand up.
“Okay,” you say simply, extending your right arm to him “half an hour, outer gates.” He reaches out and clasps his hand around your upper forearm, your hand doing the same. Then he disappears.
You finish up packing and head back up to the cockpit. You unplug your cuff and secure it back around your arm, then you take your headset out of its holder, hooking it over your right ear and placing the earpiece in, then adjusting the eyepiece to sit comfortably over your eye. Pressing the button on the back of the earpiece you watched as the screen on the glass came to life, sending an initial scan across the cockpit. You looked down at your cuff and pressed the button again, watching as the sync progress bar moved quickly in front of your eyes. SYNC COMPLETE.
Okay, change of clothes and you’ll be ready to go. You left the cockpit and headed to what you called the living side of your ship. It was kitchen, bedroom and living room all in one, with a small bathroom off to the left. You shed your armour, starting with your torso, then piece by piece moving down your body until you felt weightless from the lack of it and quickly changed ready to replace it all. You always felt wrong without your armour, all vulnerable and exposed, so whenever changing clothes speed was always a priority for you.
You were about to grab your bag ready to leave when you caught your reflection in the mirror. You walked up to it, peering at your own face, your fingers skimmed over the white tattooed line that extended from your forehead, skipped over your left eye and finished half way down your cheek. Dots were spaced at equal points down the length of it.
You turned your head to examine the other tattoo. A similar white line that slashed across your right cheekbone, this time lined with dots either side. The tattoos began as purely functional, but now you loved them, a unique part of you that you couldn’t hide. You smiled at your reflection, then grabbed your bag and left.
-
Tin Can was supposed to be here 20 minutes ago and he didn’t seem like the type of person who would be this late. It made you uneasy, very uneasy. After another 5 minutes of waiting you made the decision to go after him. You didn’t care if you found him and he got mad for it if nothing is wrong, but instinct told you there was something wrong and you were normally pretty sharp with this stuff.
It was times like these you loved your tech, when you had done your forearm shake your cuff took a reading of the signals the Mandalorian’s own cuff was giving off, signals like that are unique and therefor traceable. You instructed your cuff to track the Mandalorian and started following the signal showing on your eyepiece. It didn’t take long to find him really, especially when you starting pursuing the sound of blaster fire which unsurprisingly took you right to him.
You took a moment to take in the scene in front of you, the Mandalorian was in the centre of the chaos, three figures, on in a helmet, one in a face mask with goggles and the third conveniently covered by a hood surrounded him. He was doing quite well, he’d taken out one of the assailants as evidenced by the limp body lying a few feet from you, but even for him three on one is tricky odds to beat.
A mass of blast fire and punches blurred as you shed your bag to the floor and began to run towards the fight, producing you blaster pistol in one hand and drawing your favourite blade in the other. You beelined towards the guy who was about to spear the Mandalorian with an electro staff, with a sweep of your leg you knocked his foot from under him, swiping your knife in his direction and digging it into his shoulder as you turned your gaze and blaster to the hooded figure running towards you, firing three shots in his direction.
You see it hit his arm as a blaster shot whizzed past your ear, causing you to flinch away as the guy you had just stabbed made a run up with his staff. Dodge, dodge, blaster shot, knife swipe, kick to the floor, you lined up your final blaster shot as a dull pain exploded across your left bicep, the force of it knocking your knife to the ground.
You rounded on the masked attacker, discharging shot after shot at him, he was fast, faster than you at dodging, but not fast enough to dodge all the beams, one struck him in his shoulder, incapacitating him long enough for you to turn back to shoot the hooded man as he was starting to get up. The blast cleared his chest and you watched as he slumped against the floor, staff skidding away from him and powering down.
There wasn’t any time to breathe before a fist was flying at the side of your head, swinging your forearm you struck the fist away and landed two punches to his gut with your other fist, sweeping his leg he knocked you to the ground, blaster slipping from your grasp and sliding away across the cobbles of the street. Shit, when did he pick up that staff? You jerked your head to the side as the electrified end slammed into the ground mere inches away from your face. You kneed up into his crotch and pushed all you force against his chest shoving him off you, and rolling over you pushed yourself off the ground and ran for your blaster.
Your fingers closed around the handle and you swung it round to point at masked man now charging at you. Heat flared next to you, a stream of hot licking flames extending just shy of your face. Fear shot into your stomach, crawling over your skin and weakening your knees, causing you to collapse to the ground. Looking in the direction of origin you saw the Mandalorian, arm extended, flames spewing from his wrist.
And behind him- fuck. A bloody figure drew up and pointed his blaster at the back of the Mandalorian. A shot. Yours, skimming past the silvery armour of the Mandalorian and striking the dark helmeted figure behind him. The flames stopped and both of the final assailants crumpled to the ground, unmoving.
Your breathing was heavy, your arm ached and your stomach felt tight. The Mandalorian was sat on the ground too, you were both studying each other, watching and catching your breath. The adrenaline was slowing dissipating from your body’s and as the high dropped, so slightly did your guard. “You really need to watch where you point that thing,” You joked shakily.
“Yeh well, I don’t normally have people I’m not supposed to hit,” he observed.
“You’re welcome, by the way,” you added, cocking your head.
“I didn’t need your assistance.”
“Yeh it certainly looked that way,” you snapped, rolling your eyes and jumping to your feet. You holstered your blaster on your hip, glancing across at the Mandalorian who was rising to his feet as well. You scanned the ground for your dagger, grinning when your eyes landed on the silver and gilded gold blade. It was lying next to the masked guy, whom you approached and bent down next to in order to pick it up when something caught your eye.
On the man’s belt a little red light flashed up at you, blinking steadily. A tracking fob. First placing the knife back in its holder on your armoured calf, you reached and unhooked the tracker from the body. “I need to check something, head to the outer gates, I’ll be there in 5,” The Mandalorian stated.
You looked up at him to see him walking away from you. Stars above Tin Can, he better not make a habit of this. You began to walk towards your bag, when a thought hit you. If one of these bodies had trackers on, then the rest of them could as well. And when you searched each of them, you found you were, as usual, correct, all four of them had trackers, all blinking at exactly the same rate. They were all for the same person then.
You popped the backs off each of the trackers and deactivated them manually. Once wiped trackers can be sold on for quite a few credits, and right now you needed all the credits you can get, so you put them in your bag and started your way towards the outer city gates. So that’s why he can’t go to the guild, he’s being hunted by them.
You had reached the gates before him, you watched for him approaching. When he appeared he had a bag slung over his shoulder and it looked like he’d polished his armour, it was glinting away under the hot sun. Even you had to admit that it did look good, it must be fairly new, except for the fact it didn’t bare his signet. He nodded to you as he drew up beside you, “Ready?” he asked.
“Let’s go.”
